This is the continuation to the Cooking With Fire story, an ongoing burb-dog saga I prepared as an award for a long-time supporting $25+/month Patron. As with the previous posts, GuyThreepwood presented the theme and what he would like covered, selected several guidelines for the plot, and then set me loose! Other than asking that it take place in my "Burb Dog" story world, there was a lot of open-ended options, and this story is the result!

"Cooking With Fire" is a story about Robert, a Human who escapes his small town and his racist family to start a life for himself as a chef by attending a college focusing on the culinary field. Robert ends up moving in with three Dogs and builds quite the relationship with one of them, a Great Dane named Down-on-the-Nile (aka Don). He finally has to make good on the double-date plans between he and Don joining Phil and the Basenji's current love interest, Liam.

As always, thanks to all of you for reading; I value your comments too!

The not-so-great movie continued playing in the background, doing little more than providing some passive noise along with an ever-changing glow to the otherwise dark room. Robert had no doubt that none of them were paying it much mind by that point-- he certainly didn't. Without even having the Human leave his lap, Don had managed to slide the young man's pants off him, leaving Robert there in only his underwear with a very obvious erection pushing against the fabric.

His active self-conscience screamed that there was a stranger in the room, but the feel of Don's firm grip and sand-papery paw pads on his thigh screamed louder; he was not going to tell his fiance 'no'. Leaning further back against the massive Great Dane, Robert shivered when he felt the Dog's erection through Don's jeaps pushing against the underwear covering his ass. Robert tried to mumble something, but his embarrassment kept the words from coming out; Don didn't seem nearly as restrained.

A moment later he gasped when he felt teeth graze his neck, and he did little more than whimper as his underwear was also stripped from him, one muscled arm holding him back against an equally sculpted chest in order to pull the cloth out from under him. When he was set back down his lower half was wholly naked, and he couldn't help but sheepishly glance toward Phil and their host, only to realize that he had nothing to worry about: Liam was completely engrossed in the moment.

Robert's breath caught in his throat when he saw that Liam was already completely naked, shirt bunched up and stuffed into Phil's muzzle like a gag. The fellow Human was atop the Dog, hips rolling against the Basenji's crotch and the motion was apparently driving Phil wild-- Robert realized why: the Dog's jeans were open and, even though they weren't pulled down, it was obvious that they were off just enough that Phil was already hilted inside Liam. His attention was pulled back to Don the moment the Great Dane licked his ear, warm breath making the saliva chill his skin. "Looks like they're not wasting any time."

Pulling his attention back to his wonderful fiance, Robert worked to bury his own reservations. Slowly rotating around on Don's lap, the Human faced his lover, and began to unbutton the Dog's shirt. "Then neither should we."

The attentive Great Dane brushed the back of a paw across Robert's cheek, the hunger in his eyes tempered only by his care. "You sure you're alright with it, Love?"

Committing to the moment, the Human nodded. "With you, I think I'd be fine with almost anything..."

Robert could see the mischevious grin start to appear on Don's muzzle so he grabbed two fistfuls of chest fur and reiterated "ALMOST anything."

It didn't take a lot of effort for the two of them to get Don's pants off and, as usual, the Great Dane didn't bother wearing any underwear. Not bothering with the Great Dane's shirt, Robert pressed one hand down on the Dog's sternum while the other reached back to take hold of his fiance's girthy member, adjusting it for a good angle, and slowly began easing down onto it. Don's head fell back to the carpet as he let out a groan, speaking softly "Been waiting all night for this, Babe..."

Feeling his cheeks redden, Robert smiled sheepishly. "Me too..."

Somewhere in the back of his mind, the Human registered the sounds in stereo beside them; Liam was riding Phil vigorously, hardly quiet as he gave voice to his enjoyment of the situation even as the Basenji mumbled, his groans muffled by the shirt stuck in his muzzle... but the Dog hardly seemed to mind. Don, on the other hand, had no such restrictions on making noise, and, as he took hold of Robert's hips and thrust up into him in tandem with each of the Human's motions, the big Dog began to growl lustily, grunting to accentuate each of the more powerful thrusts as his knot started hardening, kissing Robert's opening every time their hips came together.

Ultimately, Robert couldn't stay quiet any longer, letting out a hiss through his teeth followed by a gasp as Don't knot finally buried inside him. The Great Dane let out a deep groan, powerful enough to vibrate the Human's entire body; a moment later he felt his insides painted in thick liquid heat. It was readily apparent that Don had indeed been anticipating their time together-- he was certainly more-than-ready for it. The Human held a hand to his abdomen then human blushed deeply the moment he heard the words escape his mouth without him thinking. "I'm going to overflow at this rate."

Don chuckled, reaching a paw up to take hold of the back of Robert's head and pull him down for a kiss. "I blame you, Robert... you have that effect on me."

The change in angle made the Human jump as he felt the still-pulsing member inside him hit his prostate, and he tensed up; Don had cum so quickly that Robert hadn't quite got there, but that issue hadn't escaped the Great Dane's notice either; kiss complete, Don slowly pushed Robert back into a sitting position, and then curled his own body forward. A moment later the young man gasped as the Dog's broad muzzle engulfed the entirety of the Human's erection. Robert didn't even last as long as Don had.

Don's muzzle came off before Robert's ejaculation had finished, an errant string of semen gracing the Dog's nose as he gasped. "Fuck! You're milking me!"

Robert knew that Dogs tended to be extremely sensitive while being tied, and he couldn't deny that the tense contractions of his body were definitely doing something to the large rod embedded in him, but he hadn't expected what happened next. A whimper mixed with a growl emerged from deep within Don and the Great Dane bucked twice-- knot still buried in the Human, the Dog came a second time.

It took several seconds for Robert to come to grips with what had just happened, especially since he was only just coming down off of his own plateau, but he saw two sets of eyes on them; Liam and Phil had already finished, and both were staring. Liam spoke with verve. "Wow... that was fucking HOT."

Although Robert felt like he should have been completely embarrassed he was far too content to be held in his fiance's arms to make it into too big a deal. Letting out a contented sigh, he enjoyed the fact that, not only had he been able to get Don off twice, but the flexible Dog had been able to get him off with his muzzle, leaving them completely without any mess as they snuggled (granted, that would change when Don's knot loosened). Smiling, he ran his fingers through his lover's chest fur. "Twice, huh?"

The Great Dane chuckled sheepishly. "I can't remember the last time something hurt in such a great way."

Robert's head raised as he looked with concern to his lover. "Hurt?"

Don's grin was all teeth, and a blush peeked through from beneath his fur. "In a good way-- like I said. A really--" he licked Robert's face, "--really--" he licked it again, "--good way."

Their snuggling was interrupted by Liam. "What's that? Something up over there? Inquiring minds want to know."

Robert was only a little perturbed at their host's intervention. Don, however, took it in stride. Grinning proudly, the Great Dane declared "Robert here ended up getting me off twice in a row."

Liam snickered, reaching across the distance to lightly cuff Robert on the shoulder. "Well how 'bout that? I don't think I've ever managed to get a Dog off two times in a single knot session. Get down with your bad self!"

Robert ended up blushing profusely. "Uh... thanks?"

The four of them fell quiet after that, the entire bunch simply floating along in the quiet afterglow with the movie still playing in the background. Robert found himself almost falling asleep twice-- the first time he was awakened by Don adjusting his position on the floor, and the second when Liam and Phil started giggling. It was the Great Dane who asked "What's up now?"

Phil gave his human Boyfriend's thigh a squeeze before speaking (the shirt had long since been removed from his muzzle). "Lee was saying that we should do this more often."

Robert found himself liking Liam more and more while simultaneously being intimidated and overwhelmed; it was a strange combination. The young man eventually found the courage to ask "Liam? how is it you're so... easy-going?"

Their host let out a huge laugh. "Whew... when you paused, I thought you were going to say something bad. Easy-going? It's something I had to learn to be honest. Best way to learn is to practice not letting things bother you."

Robert gently stroked Don's chest, using the 'fur therapy' as a way to center himself. "Well... if that were the case, I should already be an expert."

Liam's fresh laugh was much more muted and he reached out to rest a hand on Robert's shoulder. It was a strange gesture since they were still side-by-side, their respective Dogs on their backs with members still buried inside their Humans, but it still felt genuine. The other Human looked at Robert and said "Well... in a case like this, just remember: things are chaotic for you right now, but it'll blow over soon. Everything passes... even insane paparazzi blitzes."

There was additional quiet after that as each couple used the cool-down period to simply exist with one another. The movie continued playing in the background, slowly winding towards its conclusion. Robert only half paid attention, realizing after a few moments during one of his tune-ins that the story was nearing an end. The romantic lead couple were standing on a train station and the female was about to get on board.

Slowly turning away, the male lead lowered his head, voice full of mournful emotion as he uttered the words. "Je voudrais que les choses aient pu se passer différemment."

The translated caption at the bottom of the screen indicated "I wish things could have turned out differently."

Even as the screen faded to black with the word 'FIN" written in white across it, the female lead's voice murmured. "Je regrette de ne pas avoir pu te combler."

There were no subtitles for her dialogue but Liam snickered at the line nevertheless. "Definitely not a problem for Phil."

Their host was the only one laughing at his own apparent wit but, soon enough, the rest of the three of them were perfectly happy to laugh for the sake of laughing. Robert had to admit: it had been an odd, but rather nice night. The two Dogs were able to separate a short time after that and both couples separated to different bathrooms so they could each get clean. For Robert and Don, that included a long snuggle-session in a shower, but not too long since they didn't want to be rude.

They met again in the same room where they'd watched TV; everyone's clothing had been left behind so they met up again as naked as they'd been when they'd separated. Liam certainly seemed casual with his nudity and Robert realized that the fellow Human looked really good; he figured if he looked half as good he wouldn't have been worried about going naked either. Almost as if reading his mind, Don leaned forward and kissed the side of his head, speaking softly "You look amazing, babe... clothed or not."

Liam seemed oblivious to the exchange, simply walking toward them, just as naked as the rest, except a black watch he wore on his wrist. "Hey... I wanted to follow up with you about the whole media thing, Robert-- I can tell it's bothering you."

Not exactly how to take the statement, the young man responded simply with "Huh?"

Their host elaborated. "Phil told me about some of your concerns, and mentioned that you haven't exactly been 'living in this decade' before you moved out of your folks' place... I figured it might be helpful for you to know that the whole 'Burb Dog' thing is pretty passe on the two coasts. Even if it's a big deal where you're from, pretty much everyone else'll forget about it when it blows over now that everyone knows it's not a 'cult thing'."

Robert simply stared blankly. "Passe? How, exactly?"

Liam laughed. "I mean, with mainstream media stuff like Dog-Eat-Dog out of New York, or the LEASHER Non-Profit Agency out of the San Francisco area in California, people are coming around and it's not such a niche thing anymore. Sure, in some areas people still have their heads up their asses and care about who people love and what they do in the privacy of their own homes... or in the living rooms of a friend's home." he winked after that statement, "But for the most part folks are chill."

Robert sighed. "It doesn't feel like people are 'chill' when I'm getting harrassed by the media and not allowed to attend classes."

Hands on his hips, Liam put on quite the confidence display. "Mark my words, you 'quaint yokel'-- said with love, I promise-- in two weeks you'll be all but forgotten as part of yesterday's news. That is a Liam Walsh certified promise."

At the time, Robert didn't think that Liam was qualified to make such a promise. However, within ten days, the eccentric twenty-something was proven right, and a 'new normal' started to settle in. It was a distinct improvement.

* * * * *

The next few weeks were a blessed transition to normalcy. It was a slow but steady progression with the reporters eventually moving on to other things, a lack of invasion into his personal life from random strangers, and, ultimately, the email saying he was able to return to campus. The entire ordeal had been frustrating but, thankfully, Robert had been far enough along in his classes that the time off hadn't negatively affected his ability to graduate. It helped that he was able to follow along with some asynchronous classes some of his instructors had recorded for his benefit.

Aside from a return to school, his personal life also continued progressing. He and Don had started discussing engagement plans, and that only amplified when Don's family found out. In addition to numerous phone calls and constant contact with his parents, the two were invited over every weekend without fail (they accepted after the first weekend, which Robert spent catching up on classes). All of the Dogs seemed overjoyed that Robert was joining their family... even Chris, who provided the most glowing endorsement she seemed capable of with a simply put "Well... I know Don could do a LOT worse than you, so I guess it's cool and everything."

During each of the visits, Don's parents were eager to help out with the wedding preparations but both the Dog and Human were quick to remind them that nothing was going to happen until after Robert graduated; trying to handle a wedding, newly wed life, AND completing classes would be a little too much to juggle-- especially with the young man still playing catch-up from his time off. That, of course, sent Oby off the deep end, complaining about the predatory nature of big media and how the education system was only too quick to roll-over when faced with adversity. Eventually he was silenced when his wife stuck a honey-bun in his muzzle. The older Dog was easy to please like that.

In the end, Don's parents settled for some simple pre-planning. They had a list of 100 questions for the soon-to-be-married couple to consider-- things like an invite list, food preference, and venue. Although they spent some time discussing the overview, it was up to Don and Robert to go over together when they had some time as the Dogs would want to discuss it in more detail during the next visit; the questions were certainly enough in the way of 'homework'.

Robert, despite feeling overwhelmed by Don's parents' involvement at time, still greatly enjoyed spending time with them and appreciated that they took an interest. Although they hadn't outright said so, he had a feeling that they were overjoyed with the prospect of 'adopting' him into the family once he'd married their son. If he was being honest with himself, he didn't mind the thought one bit. He told Don as much the following Monday when the two of them were flopped out on the sofa watching some late night TV. "Hey... Don? Do you think your folks are so gung-ho about the wedding because they're keen on adopting me or something?"

Don laughed from deep in his chest, moving his muzzle forward to nuzzle the top of Robert's head. "That obvious, huh? I mean, Dad, sure... he thinks you're a great guy just like I do and Mom.... well... she'd be happy no matter what so long as she got to throw a huge wedding for me, but I think she figures she hit the jackpot with me marrying someone as amazing as you."

Robert felt his cheeks flush and he raised a hand up to double-pat Don's muzzle, then push it away chidingly. "Now you're just making fun the question. I AM half serious, you know. Seems like they're almost twice as excited as us."

The Great Dane playfully nipped at the Human's fingers playfully, even as he pulled him closer. "They can afford to be-- they're not the ones getting married so it's up to us to make all the hard decisions."

The young man leaned back against his fiance's furred chest. "Can't argue with you there... maybe we should set aside some time to go through their list. We're MONTHS away from the earliest possible date, but it sounds like they want everything decided."

Don chuckled, resting his chin atop Robert's head. "Well... from the stories they've told about their own engagement, it was almost two years long, so I don't know how they get off trying to rush us."

The Human smirked at that. "Oh... I'm familiar with 'do as I say, not as I do'."

The two shared a laugh, but it was interrupted when Robert's cell phone went off. He glanced down at it where it sat on the coffee table. "That's weird... nobody I know would normally call after nine."

Don's ears raised and Robert met his quizzical gaze with a shrug. He checked the screen and froze; it was his mom's cell phone number. The Dog gave him a gentle squeeze. "Everything alright, Robert?"

The young man responded. "It's... my mom."

The Great Dane's smile disappeared. "Just decline?"

Robert very nearly did, but, in the end, he picked the cell up and glanced to his fiance. "She NEVER uses the phone... Dad got her one so he could reach her."

With that as the only excuse/apology, the young man answered... or, rather, he accepted the call, but said nothing. There was silence on the other line for several long seconds until he heard his mother's voice. "Robby? Robby, honey? Are you there?"

Although he didn't want to be too dismissive, Robert was agitated at the way his old life continued to tear into his new one. "It's 'Robert', mom."

She sounded near tears. "I'm sorry for calling, Robby... I know you probably hate us, but I really--"

He interrupted her. "I don't hate you, Mom... I'm just tired of being who Dad wants me to be. Why did he put you up to calling? Did he know I wouldn't pick up if he did?"

The next words he heard completely blew his mind. "Your father doesn't know that I'm calling... he wouldn't want me to."

In addition to his mom being the consummate housewife, she had also been raised in a household that taught young women to obey their husbands. Learning that his mom not only did something that her husband didn't want her to, but was doing so behind his back seemed like the basis of fiction. "He... doesn't know you're calling me?"

Her voice got even more mousey-- withdrawn and quiet. "I... I'm really sorry about everything with the newspaper and the TV and the radio. Your father was angry about everything that happened to you at college, but he would have left it well enough alone--"

Robert snapped. "HE'S angry? What about ME? I have a LIFE now, and he's trying to RUIN it because it doesn't mesh with what HE wants for me. Well, I don't CARE about what he wants-- it's MY life, gosh darn it!"

Although he honestly wanted to say 'god damn it', there were some things ingrained in him at a young age and he couldn't bring himself to curse within earshot of his mother... not even over the phone. He stared to wonder if he'd come off too aggressive when he heard her breath hitch, and then a faint shuffle to her next one before she started crying. "I... I know, Robby... and... and he WOULDN'T have done it, except he REALLY needed the money he thought they would pay for the story."

Robert's fury returned two-fold. "Money? It's about MONEY?!? Why? What did he need money for so badly? A bigger truck? Fishin' gear and a new pole? Another case of beer? A new FLIPPIN' hat?"

The young man honestly wasn't sure what made him more angry: his life was up for bid so his dad could make a quick buck, he still couldn't curse in front of his mother, and the accent he tried so hard to leave behind was slowly creeping back into his words due to the combination of being angry and hearing it in his mom's words. He was so frustrated tears began to well up in his eyes, but his next barrage of statements ended up cut short when his mother murmured "Skylar Dean is sick, Robby... REAL sick."

The young man very nearly dropped his cell. Skylar Dean was his younger brother and, if there was any reason Robert wouldn't have left home it would have been because of the kid. Skylar Dean looked up to him, and, often enough, it was up to Robert to play dad and big brother all at once when their dad was away at work for extended periods of time, or just too tired (or selfish of his personal time) after a long work day. The anger blew right out of his sails. "What's wrong with Dean?"

His mom's words came out shaky; he could tell that she was holding back sobs. "The docs say that he needs a liver transplant."

Don alternated between pulling Robert closer and giving him space over the course of the next twenty minutes as the young man talked with his mom. He had tons of questions and she was able to answer some of them, but not all. Her understanding of the world was limited to a middle school graduate level of comprehension but from what Robert was able to glean from her was that his little brother stood a good chance for survival, but the procedure would be expensive, and there would have to be a qualified donor. That, ultimately brought the topic around to why his mother called.

Her voice was steady, but still meek. "The docs checked both your dad and me, and they said that we couldn't be the ones to donate. There's no match in organ storage, which means the only place we have left to look is you."

Robert was out of words. He sat, staring at the coffee table for several long seconds, phone up to his ear with his brain trying to puzzle through what he was hearing from her. In the end, she spoke up. "Robby, honey... you still there?"

The words came to him in response to her inquiry. "Yeah... I'm still here... and I'm not there... because, if I remember right, I was DISOWNED."

"Robert, I--"

She finally remembered to use the name he preferred, but his fury had risen to too high a point by then. "So, dad throws me away because I didn't turned out how he liked and, now that the family has a USE for me, you're digging through the trash so you can brush me off and hope I'll still work? Is that it?"

She had never been good at setting her foot down, but she still tried. "Listen, young man, you can't just--"

He shot back immediately. "Why 'can't I just'? What're you gonna do? DISOWN ME?!?"

His mom tried a different approach; Robert could hear the desperation in her voice. "Robert-- this is about Skylar Dean... NOT about you."

Robert finally found his ability to curse. "It's NEVER fucking about me, Mom! Isn't that the whole point?!? I always have to be the perfect son doing everything that you and Dad demand, and I'm not allowed to have feelings or opinions or, god forbid, a LIFE that I want because it's all about everyone BUT me! Well to HELL with that! I'm out."

He was shaking all over after he hit the END button and tossed his phone onto the table. The moment he heard the impact against the wood he immediately regretted exploding but, at the same time, steeled his resolve; he'd wanted to say those words FOREVER-- but, he reminded himself, he'd REALLY wanted to say them to his dad, not his mom. Still, he recalled, she may not have been the one tormenting him, but she was still a complacent accomplice. He remained staring at the table and his phone for several seconds, only realizing after Don shifted beside him that he wasn't alone.

Don's large paw gently came to rest on Robert's shoulder, offering a gentle pat. "You want to talk about it, Robert?"

The Human really didn't... but he also really did. Rather than focus on what he'd said to his mom, Robert went with something much more pertinent to his mood. "My younger brother is dying. He needs a liver transplant."

The Great Dane some how managed to maneuver Robert into laying against him and the big Dog's arms encircled his shoulders. "I'm sorry to hear that."

Robert nodded. "Yeah... he's a good kid... and my folks want to save him... but they can't find a donor match."

Don grunted softly. "Ah... and your mom called to ask if you'd get checked to see if you could be a match?"

The young man didn't sob, or cry, per se... but his eyes started to leak from the overload of emotions. "I don't want him to die."

The Great Dane gave him another soft squeeze. "And you don't want your parents to reel you back in or start making demands of you?"

Robert nodded against Don's head, sniffling once. "Yeah..."

The two remained laying on the sofa until some time early in the morning. Robert's mind didn't stop trying to piece together the phone call, his life, and his brother's needs. At some point he passed out from exhausting, only vaguely remembering Don carrying him up to bed, murmuring softly "I don't know what you're going to choose, Love, but you are smart, and kind, and I'll support your decision, no matter what."
