Flame woke up to the morning sun shining on his face, he looked down at his pink mate and smiled. She had been distracted lately. Whenever she would see a child, she would stare glassy eyed into space.

“Hey" He nudged her awake.

“Mph" She groaned

“I want to ask you something." He told her

“Mph" She groaned again.

“Do you want kids?"

She shot up like a rocket, looking at him with a strange look.

“What?"

“Whenever we bring it up you dodge and hide, but I see you stare off into space."

“I didn't want you to feel pressured." Ember looked shy.

“I want them."

Ember jumped again. “What?"

“I talked a bit with Michael, and I found that Aura, Layla, and Nebula are all having children of their own, and it got me thinking, I kinda want them to have some friends to play with, and I also just want kids of my own." Flame explained.

Ember's eyes sparkled. “It's an egg year."

“A what?"

“A year where everybody in a group starts thinking about having their own kids, and they all lay at once. Michael says it has a magical origin, and is pretty cool." Ember told him.

“So, were joining them?" Flame asked

“I want to, I can't wait."

“I wonder if Spyro and Cynder are doing it?"

“I don't know, they have to go to Providence soon."

“They have enough time, they shouldn't be there that long, we still have like, two months." Ember shrugged, then gasped. “They probably already think were doing it, because of those furs. Now I hope they are, because if they don't do it, I will feel so bad."

“Why?"

“Because I gave them nesting furs, but they might not even lay this year."

Flame got up and stretched. “I wouldn't worry about it, she'll understand."

Ember nodded and got up as well, and they walked out of the bedroom together.

“I wonder how Spyro is doing with the guardian selection?" Ember spoke “It must be hard to choose a replacement for his mentor."

Flame nodded “Yeah, we should go with him today, Cynder has been healing, and I've barely seen him."

Ember smiled “That's a good idea, let's do it."

They ate a quick breakfast, before walking out into the square to wait for the purple dragon. After a few hours, he eventually excited the house, Ember gasped at him. He looked tired, like he was up all night watching over Cynder.

“Are you okay?" Ember asked her

“Oh, hi Ember, yeah, I'm fine."

“How have you been sleeping?" Flame asked

“Not good, I can't sleep while Cynder is like that. I know she's okay, but it still worries me that she might hurt herself during her sleep." Spyro replied

“You need rest." Ember said, worried.

“I get better sleep during the day, when she's awake reading or something." Spyro replied.

“Were coming with you for training today, and since you're like that, you're going to relax while I test the first four trainees." Flame told him.

“No, it's okay." Spyro replied

“You need to relax; you have been overworking yourself again. You need to stop doing that, and help yourself every once in a while." Ember told him.

“I'm fine." Spyro looked down.

“She's right, it's one of your biggest flaws; you help others to such a point that you forget yourself." Michael walked up to them.

Spyro nodded “But I have to stay with you guys, I need to pay attention to what you're doing."

Flame nodded “As long as you aren't doing anything."

They walked to the academy and into the private dojo that was reserved for them. All ten fire dragons were waiting for them, and gasped when they saw Spyro.

“Don't worry about him." Michael told them “He's burnt out again, that's how you can tell he has a pure soul; he goes and focuses all of his energy on others, especially his wounded mate. He does this so much that if he isn't stopped, he will injure himself."

They nodded, completely understanding.

“Flame will be testing the first four participants, and rating you on the same scale Spyro has been using." Michael added.

More nods, and Michael stepped back and walked away. He had just left when Mary walked in, leading a group of kids.

“Hey." Flame called “Today might not be the best day for this, Spyro's burnt out again."

Mary nodded once and turned to the kids. “Sorry children, change of plans, we have to do the fire element on day three instead. We will be doing Ice and Earth today."

There was a chorus of “Awwws"

“Now, now." Mary replied “We will see them later."

She led the kids out. Flame turned to the group of dragons and nodded to them.

“Ready when you are." He told them.

Ember walked into the dojo with Flame following her, she immediately noticed that Spyro was asleep. She smiled and looked back to Flame.

“He needs it, for a week at least, before he leaves for Providence." He said to her.

“Did you know they're going by themselves, Aura and Sam are staying, and Michael was never going." Ember told him.

“Then it should be super relaxing." Flame smiled “There is only one person he can help, and she definitely won't let him do anything for a while."

Ember laughed, and laid down at the edge of the ring.

“Alright, show me what you can do, big man." She smirked.

Flame spent the next couple of hours training four of the trainees, he had fun, and learned a lot about them. When he finished the last one, he spent a while writing down everything that he could think of, and left it next to Spyro. They closed the door quietly and left.

Spyro woke up and felt terrible, he groaned and got up. His head hurt, and his body was sore, even though he didn't do anything. These were the symptoms of burnout, and he had felt it before. He picked up a journal next to him and put it in his inventory. Then he slowly limped back home. He walked into his house and immediately went into the bedroom. Cynder woke up when he entered and jumped.

“You got burnt, again." She groaned “I can't believe you, will you ever learn."

He wordlessly curled back around her and quickly fell asleep. Cynder watched him with a worried face, he loves her so much that he will burn himself out so bad just for her. She sighed, cursing herself for her injury and its affects on him. When the training is over the roles will be reversed, Cynder would make sure of it. The next week after will be all about him, she will make sure he doesn't do a thing. She summoned a book from the archive, and started reading. Spyro stayed asleep throughout the rest of the day and into the night. Cynder heard a knock on the door and got up to answer it, her wound was better, but needed at least another day before she will be back to normal. Cynder opened the door to find Ember and Aura, she invited them in and they all sat at the couches.

“Hi, we wanted to ask you something, I hope it's not too invasive." Ember replied “Are you going to join us in this egg year?"

Cynder blinked “Us?"

Ember blushed “Oh, yeah, were doing it too."

Cynder smiled “I am."

“You are?" Aura gasped “OOOH, your hatchlings are going to be sooo cute."

They both squealed, Cynder shushed him.

“Hey, Spyro's asleep."

“Oops, sorry." Ember blocked her mouth with a paw.

“We need to talk with Layla and Nebula, and prepare. Layla told me that she wanted to raise her hatchlings here, and Nebula's will be immortal." Aura told them.

Cynder nodded “Five pregnant girls at once will be interesting"

Ember gasped “I just thought about that, Michael once had an egg year with over fifty of his close friends getting pregnant."

“Oh, the hormones." Aura gasped

“Yeah, he had to check all of them." Cynder smiled

They chatted excitedly for another hour, then they left and Cynder returned to bed. Spyro groaned when she curled back in her spot, and opened his eyes.

“Cynder…" He mumbled.

“It's okay, I'm here, go back to sleep." She licked his forhead.

“I love you honey, goodnight." He mumbled and did as he was told.

“Night." She kissed him and fell asleep.

Spyro woke up refreshed, his headache was still there and he was still sore, but the sleep made it feel better, he had some training to do. He got up and nuzzled Cynder's snout, she smiled happily and murmured in her sleep. He quickly grabbed a snack before rushing out to the academy, he wanted to read up on yesterday before he started. He walked into the dojo and did just that. Soon it was time for the first trainee of the day. Jennifer walked in and smiled faintly.

“Hey, you good?" She asked

He nodded and stood up. “I'm better now, we are going to start with some leadership exercises."

Spyro proceeded to run some simulations, then he tested her speed and agility, his final test was one of the mind, he tested her with reading, analyzing, and memorization. Then Jennifer left and he did the same thing to the other two of the day. When the session was over, Spyro was walked out of the dojo and flew home. But when he landed, he knew something was wrong; he was panting too hard after a small flight, and he felt dehydrated. His vision blurred as Michael approached him with a confused expression.

“Spyro?" His words echoed in Spyro's head “The effects of becoming your darker version are worse than I realized."

The world went black and he collapsed. He vaguely heard Michael pick him up and bring him into the house.

“Spyro!" He heard Cynder “What happened to him?"

“When he became Dark Spyro it drained more of his energy then we thought, all this action is taking a toll on him, paired with the absence of sleep and he's just too busy. I will give him an energy crystal for tomorrow, because it's the choosing day and he has to be there. But after that he needs rest, at least a week before you depart for Providence." Michael told her.

“I TOLD HIM TO RELAX" Cynder yelled.

“It's not his nature, but Providence is a really relaxing place, no animals of any kind live there, and the silence can have quite an effect." Michael replied “You will likely spend a lot of time in the archive there, it updates itself annually."

Cynder sighed “Can you bring him to the bed for me?"

Michael lifted Spyro again and walked him to the bed, he set him down with a thump and walked away.

“Spyro, my love, why do you keep doing this to yourself." Cynder nuzzled him and sighed.

She moved him into a more comfortable position and curled up with him around her.

Michael walked out of the house and rolled his eyes. Trice laughed at his expression.

“What did he do now?"

“He's just like his father, it's remarkable sometimes." Michael sighed

Trice nodded “Just like Cynder" she sighed as well. “Sometimes, for just a second, I think its her."

Michael looked at her “Good news though, we are very close."

Trice gasped “We are?"

“I need your help for the first step right now in fact, we have to decorrupt Malefor, then find Fury." Michael told her.

They took off together, flying out of the city and into a strange cave. Michael lit up a torch to the side and it illuminated a large sanctum filled with four pedestals. Three of the pedestals held cores, a black one, a purple and black one, and a pink one. Michael pulled a series of items out and placed them in certain positions around the purple and black one, and a rune began to form on the floor. Trice stepped behind the pedestal and readied herself for the spell. Michael stepped back and stood opposite of her. Suddenly the rune turned a dark blue, and Michael's eyes flashed brightly and he summoned a massive ball of ethereal power. Trice did the same, and they joined the spheres together above the pedestal. Each item spread on the floor lit up and an ethereal beam connected it with the sphere. The items dissolved and the sphere started pulsing. Michael reached out and slammed the sphere into the core. It flashed a bright light, blinding the two ethereal beings, then sent a shockwave out, forcing them back. Trice blinked and looked around, noticing the runes fading. Michael set his paw on top of the core and focused, an hour, two flew by before he opened his eyes and released the core, which turned to a solid purple.

“He will not remember being corrupted, he will be as young as the rest." Michael told her.

“Good, they will forgive him." Trice smiled, then looked around the room.

Many cores and other items were spread about, incomplete but only missing a handful of things.

“She will forgive him anyway; they will blame the dark authority nonetheless." Michael motioned to the black core.

Trice nodded. “They won't be too happy with what happened to Cynder, and Spyro as well. Just the whole fact that they grew up without them."

“They'll have more kids, it's almost expected." Michael told her.

Trice laughed “That will be odd."

They walked out of the cave and started heading back to the city.

“Were going to the palace, we need to find Fury before we can move on." Michael told her.

“You think his soul went that far?" Trice replied

“It had to of, he's not in my district, I searched it entirely." Michael answered

They flew over and landed on the palace gates.

“We should also check on Nuri" Michael added

They walked past the gates and into the massive structure, they navigated through the hallways until they found the room Nuri was staying in.

“Oh, hello." She said to them

“Hi, were looking for Fury." Michael told her.

She flinched, and looked over at a framed photo of her with her son and his mate.

“Okay." She sighed “Do you know where he might be?"

“His room or the vault." Michael answered

She got up from her seat and they walked down the hall a bit. They reached a door that had a bright red circle on it. Nuri flinched again and opened the door.

“I haven't been in here since I left, but somebody else has." Nuri told them

“I brought Spyro here not long ago." Michael explained

She nodded and they looked around, Nuri gasped and picked up a bracelet on one of the shelves.

“Is this it, Rose gave him this when they were young, he wore it until they were mated, to signify that he was spoken for."

Michael picked up the bracelet, and smiled when a rune lit up on the back of his paw.

“It's him." He confirmed

She gasped and grabbed the bracelet, holding it close to her snout.

“I am going to transfer him to this core." Michael told her, pulling out an empty core from his storage.

She nodded and gave him the bracelet back, he took it and set it on the core. They waited for a few minutes before the core sparked to life and flashed a deep red. Nuri watched the core swirl the same color as her own scales.

“When will you be ready?" She asked

“At most, six months, Junior is returning tomorrow with whatever he found." Michael answered

Nuri smiled “Haven't seen him for a while."

“Yeah, he's been checking out a nearby dimension lately, but he arrived in this one a while ago." Michael chuckled, then frowned. “I think you need to talk to Spyro."

“Why?" A worried expression crossed her face.

“He keeps burning himself out, same as how Fury used to. You need to tell him and Cynder whatever it was that you told Fury." Michael told her.

“He grew out of it, Spyro is purple and he was raised to help all that he can. But I can talk to Cynder, she is the only one that can do anything." Nuri replied

“After we bring back their parents, the time for heroes is over, we need to get him used to the fact that he only needs to help himself and his family. Speaking of which, are you ready to be a great-grandparent?"

Nuri's eyes went wide and gasped “Really?"

“It's an egg year." Trice added, smiling.

“Who else?" Nuri asked

“Ember, Layla, Nebula, Aura, Charlotte maybe, just of the friend group here. We also have six queens, forty-three other royals, and even Effie might decide to have another clutch finally." Michael answered

“Aura? Didn't she just…"

“Yes, but she felt the pressure of the egg year, even if she didn't know it." Michael interrupted.

They walked through the halls and out through the palace gates.

“Maybe I should get everyone to move here, it's so empty without anybody else these days." Nuri sighed

“That's probably a good idea, if everybody is having whole clutches, it will get cramped in a few years." Michael chuckled

Nuri chuckled “Having a large number of hatchlings running around would be nice."

They flew away from the palace and back towards the district. After landing back, Michael walked over and started talking with Onyx.

“So" Nuri turned to Trice. “Where's your mother?"

“She's been sleeping, she burned all of her magic helping Cynder." Trice answered

Nuri nodded, and they sat there for a minute, before Trice nodded to Nuri and walked away.
