Ebon Rites - Chapter 7: Loyal Recourse
Fueling emotions, and blinded by old ties, inner struggles cloud Aria's mind from from the memories of old comradely. Friends have turned, and innocent lives are now at stake.
Get nice and snug, and grab your favorite halloween cookie as we’re about to continue now into the depths of a dark jungle in the midst of night to continue on with the shady occultists! This was kind of the end of chapter six, but I couldn’t complete editing it for yesterday. However, I also couldn’t release it as a chapter 7 as it didn’t fit in correctly. So we’ll go for a strange chapter 6.5, as there are vital events here to be told. It’s totally win-win! Hmm on second thoughts, that’s too weird, we’ll go with chapter 7 instead then.

Chapter 7
-Loyal Recourse-
-o-O-o-
Aria waited it out, her vision still locked to those two before her, but, her mission itself was potentially going to be compromised. The unanticipated involvement of these innocents had now become an integral new objective within her mission, one she would be accountable for. If she were rash, she would possibly risk having the girl and her friends, injured or worse, but if she waited too long, it would be inevitable anyway. She needed to trust in herself, and take this situation with a calm mind. She couldn’t let thoughts of Akari run rampant in her mind, but it wasn’t something she could help.
‘Focus on her and keep my wits. I can’t be distracted…’ Unable to avoid it longer, the absence of action didn’t help her as she did drift off, thinking about him
Her emotions surrounding him were clashing. Aria felt she owed him a debt by clearing him of any wrong doings, but was she barking up the wrong tree? His full name was Akari Ranja, an elite ranking male within the Ascendency, one that had gained great academic and combat success. He was one of the brightest, gifted intellectually but not only that, his physical feats were spoken off, on and off the field.
Her momentary derailing from her current situation took her memory back, to one of her earlier missions and first encounter with him and it wasn’t the best of situations. Aria’s focus squandered as she taken back in her memories.
The weather conditions had been adversely challenging within themselves, only made more difficult by the fact, there were numerous other variables which could lead to death. The cold bit hard that night and was thirty below sub zero. They had been equipped with powered thermal combat clothing, and a mask to shield their faces, that provided insulation along with heat. Still, with all the high grade equipment then had, in only just about protected them from such unforgiving climes. Being so thickly padded made it tougher to be as agile as she could be, while those gloves she wore made the trigger that little more awkward.
Aria panted, remembering the excruciating pain having taken a shot to the side, just below of the ribs. The bullet that had struck her, had enough force that it had passed right through her. Gripping herself she lay there alone with her arms wrapped around her torso unable to move without incredible pain, which caused her to take a harsh fall earlier from her perched position, and sustained damage to some of her quipment. With her back pressed up against a boulder, in a puddle of her own blood barely thinking straight, she shivered with her rifle set beside her. They had been caught in a gun battle against self proclaimed freedom fighters and the exchange of fire had lasted several hours. The enemy’s base lay beyond a bunker which had been well manned and heavily fortified with automated weaponry. Relentless, it's the only word she could use to summarise the ice storm which was a naturally occurring feature of the area. It’s blasting cold winds created a blinding wall of white all around them making for poor visibility, and spanned a great distance, submerging their fortress. Those white swirling mists always rose high into the atmosphere and provided the enemy base with ample cover.
The area was much too large, and it had taken days for their scouts to comb it in order to find the enemy stronghold. Their vital intel provided the rest of the Ascendency with the knowledge of how they were avoiding being detected from airstrikes. Tt appeared they had jamming generators. If everything had gone according to plan, they were simply to plant a device at the generators which blocked out scanners. On successful completion of the task, a powerful signal based on an alternate wavelength would have been emitted to mark them. This would have fulfilled Aria’s prime objectives, which then would have concluded with their own evacuation. Following this, the air strike team then could lock onto their generators with ranged missiles and take them out.
Once those generators were down, the rest of the scans could commence and a coordinated second airstrike wave would commence to hit all vital points within their fortress. They had to exploit this weakness. The enemy tech also was also flawed that they needed to be placed outside the radius of the fortress and not protected via detectable technology in order to conceal it, anything outside of it would be detectable, and thus leaving them exposed. That’s not to say there was no security there whatsoever as regular patrols on foot were routine. It all sounded so simple in the pre-mission briefing, but it wasn’t how it turned out.
Their stronghold seemed almost impenetrable and mission control would still have a job identifying where to strike, even if they could then pick up the enemy. Soaring thick walls rising as high as fifty meters, and made up of some form of strong metal alloy, which then presented a different task in itself. That was not something for her to worry about, it was for their analysis team to figure out.
Her bleeding had slowed fractionally, but she’d lost a fair amount of blood already with no signs of it stopping as she pressed hard against it. Aria knew she potentially could still die from blood loss. Sheltered behind a natural trench of rocky boulders, she was trapped between gunfire to one side, and difficult to traverse icy terrain to the other with no real hope of making it alone in her condition. The gunfire was deafening as it rattled through her ears. To make it worse, she knew the enemy would be mobilising more reinforcements. No matter how many they took out, more had come. The Ascendency had already lost more than half of their elite recon team the last time she was able to check which was over an hour ago.
Her condition grew more agonising as she sat, slumped against a boulder, not daring to move yet. Her awkwardly gloved fingers were fumbling with her last ammunition clip as she shivered forcefully trying to slot it into her gun. The clip suddenly slipped from her grasp, and tumbled down the boulder due to her resting herself on a slight incline. To her despair, it quickly clanked and bounced out of her reach and tumbled down into a rock crevice, lost. She wouldn’t have thought where she had sought to take momentary cover would be her final place of rest. She at least wanting to go out in a blaze of glory firing it.
Being optimistic, she still held onto some little hope that she’d be rescued. Reaching to her hip, she unclipped a button and drew out her combat knife from its sheath. Aria didn’t realise it at the time, but she had been very fortunate that day in only sustaining minor internal damage to organs. Even so, she still needed first aid urgently and would need to be treated soon, if the loss of blood didn’t kill her, then it would be the cold when her thermal suit’s battery died. If she somehow did survive, then due to the nature of the wound, she risked the chance of serious internal infection with it being open like that. Lacking any contact with any of her team for ten minutes, Aria feared the worse. Where any of her comrades close by at all, or if there was any of them left alive? Ten minutes may have not seemed a long time, but it was forever when death was at her door.
She didn’t know any of these servicemen and women so why would they risk coming for her if they were still alive? It hadn’t even been that long since the feline had graduated for active missions for the first time and how proud she’d been to be given the opportunity to be able to serve the Ascendency. A year, that’s all it had been since her active service began and she would have thought there were more years to come. Regardless of her short service, what she had shown was great potential. Notably her deeds of heroism along with the achievements that followed had been recognised, no matter how meagre they were in her mind. Thus, those small errands as she saw them fit to call allowed her to qualify for something like this.
She had been hand picked for this one, and none of her fellow comrades for this mission were any she’d previously served besides. It was a specially selected task force solely for this mission. Not knowing these people made them colder, having less emotional sympathy for the other. She understood the benefits although not intended that way, still helped them act more clearly instead of irrationally should one fall.
From her crackling radio, she tried to press the button down to ask for assistance, but it was broken from the fall she’d taken, the emergency casualty distress one too. Her only comfort was that she could hear them. With no way of getting attention she felt her situation becoming dire. If she were to shout, it may have meant whomever was out there that had shot her would know she’d not died. She remembered his voice well coming over the radio. “All forces, Ironclad team is now done and accounted for. All remaining support forces fall back to point A, and await extraction, over,” transmitted the distorted voice. She was feeling a little green and the panic was escalating now, she wanted to do so much more instead of ending up dying out here alone. It was time to face the facts, no was going to come, they were leaving now.
She closed her eyes and was about to give up hope. Her emotions were about to give in as her nerves were going. It didn’t last when suddenly he came, the one she would come to know as friend. Just seeing another face made her feel more at ease, even if she’d never parted words with this individual before now. He wasn’t a captain, or anything high ranking, at the time, but he was the same, he was like her; a comrade in arms, an elite commando. Rallying besides her he could see her blood patterns splattered along the ground from when she initially was shot.
“Damn you’re hit, stay still,” he said as he pressed a button on his radio, the casualty distress beacon for an available combat med to come by quickly. “He’ll be here shortly if he’s still alive. The other meds are dead. Your mask is blinking, it’s damaged. This will sting a moment as the cold will bite but I’ll trade mine for yours, I got tougher skin than a girl,” he teased as he reached behind her head to unclip it, then removed his own. She remembered seeing his face for the first time. The male Ailian feline had resemblances to a calico cat, with varying spots. It was all she glimpsed as he swiftly exchanged them, and secured his to her face, and hers to his. She felt her cheeks feel warmer, and hadn’t even noticed the damage or drop in some heat in her face until now. He was just slightly taller than Aria, and she could make out in the expression she briefly observed that he was genuinely concerned for his fallen comrade.”
Another radio message came in, “All forces retreat, this is the final reminder, I repeat, that’s all forces retreat, fall back to point A,” it echoed and crackled as Aria was feeling slightly dizzy.
“I’m not sure if you should stay, just leave me,” she insisted. Just then the combat med arrived, quite rushed. Squatting he made analysis of her condition, beginning to prod around her injured area as she hisssed. “Ahhh,” she whelped.
“That looks bad, give me a moment,” he said as he unstrapped some supplies.
The calico feline, gritted his teeth. “They’re leaving, we need to hurry or we’ll be left behind,” he urged, trying to rush the med.
“I’m trying, let me do my job,” he said as he placed his screen over her gun wound allowing the device to analyse the extent of the damage. He pulled away, looking at the other soldier with a nod, “Stop her bleeding and she’ll live, but I don’t have what I need to stop the bleeding here. It’s a ruptured artery. This will slow it down,” he said as he pulled out his combat knife and a heat device which would be used to light fires if emergency camp was needed. He placed it to the blade as it began to heat up. “I’ve used my supplies up, we didn’t account for things happening like this, and were only granted enough to handle a few casualties. We’ve taken heavy hits and losses,” he cried as the blade was now glowing red. Looking at Akari, he ordered him. “Hold her tight, and gag her mouth, this ain’t going to be nice,” he said as he as Akari shoved Aria’s mouth with the butt of his riffle. The med placed the burning hot knife to her wound pressing it into her as she screamed and flinched. Her fangs bit down on the rifle butt hearing her flesh sizzling.
The med looked down on his wrist, and time was being lost. “I say leave her, as we only have five minutes before this whole area is scorched by the air strikes to take out that generator ahead. Let her chance it, we’ve done what we can and she’ll slow you down. If you drag her, then neither of you will make it. I’m out of here,” he complained, before rushing away, while keeping his head low.
“Coward, if you don’t want to continue to treat her, then at least give me a hand? If we work together we can all make it.” Akari cried. But the battle med was gone, swallowed by the white mists of the storm. “Damn that spineless crap,” he cursed.
Aria made a deep lamented sigh, before accepting the lapse of her momentary hope. “He’s right. One life is better than two,” she conceded.
The soldier who’d come to her aid remained completely calmed again to her surprise, and spoke so casually as if nothing out of the ordinary was happening, now ignoring what just happened. “Good, it’s more or less only a flesh wound, but the bleeding has showed it’s slowed, depending on how long it will take to get it sorted you may not make it, but I’m going to try.” he said.
“You’re too insistent,” she said jovially, in jest finding some humour in the dire situation.
“You don’t mind if I call you Aria right, I read your profile. I’m not one for formalities using surnames. Hmm, you seem too tense. That injury is really a nuisance for you as it’s by a high nerve cluster, which means it’s hurting more than it needs to. Here, this will help,” he said, handing over a syringe pod.
“What’s in this thing?” she asked, examining the sphere.
“It’s amunsk, not registered on the Ailian medical database as it’s only native to small area of this planet. I thought it’d come in handy considering it’s effects are faster acting than our standard edition. So I just filled it into a few syringe pods. I thought I may have a use for it if I’m injured. Trust me, it’s got fewer side effects too. You need to get it into the injured area. It’ll numb the pain with rapid effect and will last up to twenty four hours.” He placed it into Aria’s hand. “You know how to use one, as syringe pods are pretty much standard?”
“I know what it is, but I was thrown off by that green fluorescent liquid inside,” she said, pulling it down to over her injury. “Okay, I just inject it into the bleeding area directly?”
“No you’re bleeding from both sides, I have a few more pods. Turn to the side, we’ll inject both sides together. If you survive, not a word about my improvised additions to anyone. Agreed? We’ll do it on three,” he said helping her struggle onto her side as she groaned. Akari pressed the other to her back firmly. “Okay, one-two-three-inject!”
“Grrrrrr,” she growled, as both pods hissed as the liquid became like vapour which forced it’s way into broken flesh. The sharp pain came with a burning, stinging, feeling as if she were being branded with a hot iron rod all over again. Unable to suppress the pain, she opened her mouth to scream. Aria felt the most horrific pain as Akari’s hand gagged her before she could get a sound out, and give their location away. She even bit down causing him to flinch but he still held firmly to silence her cry until the fast acting herb began its work, the pain was dissipating.
“Not been in the field long, I’ve never heard of you before this?” he said as if he’d done nothing to her.
Panting she replied. “No, I’ve not, only a year but to be honest, I’ve only had smaller missions. They’re not even worth mentioning,” he said.
“Humour me,” he said as he took her arm over his shoulder and propped himself firmly against her in order to help her up. “You can stand right?”
Nodding, her legs felt almost weightless. It was hard to say if it was the intensity of what she’d taken, the loss of bleeding, or both. Aria found it easier to manage the pain now that the pain had been dampened by the foreign medicinal herbs. Her own willingness to move returned. “Yes, I think I’ll manage but I’m feeling really light headed,” she said.
“You will, as you’ve lost a substantial amount of blood. I’ll make sure I get you back to the pick up in one piece, now what were we talking about, ah that’s right.” He said as he began to walk with her steadily. “You were saying about smaller missions?” he pressed to keep her mind occupied while they began to advance with Aria’s legs stumbling every few yards. He wasn’t for things like save your breath and conserve your energy, he felt things which needed to be said, did. In his view a person in their last hours should not be repressed from it. It’s what would give them the final peace knowing they’ve said what they needed to. Aria didn’t know at the time that, that was what he was doing this. Later she found out through other similar experiences with fallen comrades while being in his company and questioning him. Now, thinking back all those years, she understood that he thought she was going to die too, or they both would be.
“Yes, that. I had small missions, like convoy escorts, which was exciting the first time around, and of course I got to shoot at enemies. I got to see action on my first one with a stroke of luck. We came under assault from rogue bandits who used smaller customised attack vessels and I even got to hit one. They retreated as we simply outgunned them continued flying on. I ended up on a lot of those but most were uneventful. And the other was to aid with back up of a siege operations against humans, the most action I saw there was cutting off the water supply or running ammunition to assault groups, again uneventful. The enemies in those incidents soon enough surrendered not having food, water, or power along with the pressure of being under heavy fire. This is the first time I’m in a main assault team, the type I use to run supplies to,” she said, giving him a disheartened look.
“Well, we were hand picked because we were recommended as the right ones for this mission. Someone saw more potential in you than those missions demanded. All those so-called small missions weren’t small. No matter what part you play, in the grand scheme of things, all small things add up to become a bigger part of a jigsaw, and we being that small piece that adds to it. Without us, the jigsaw would never be complete. Due to it being your first real assault, I don’t want to panic you but the others have fallen back, there’s only you and me left out here now, so I’m going to need your help, do you think you can?” he said as he dragged her along.
“Leave me, you’ll die if you don’t,” she pleaded. No more gun shots were audible, the firing had ceased but that only meant they were potentially reorganising for a scout wave to secure the area possibly. Search and eradicate intruders.
“No. I don’t leave comrades behind if they’re still alive or can be saved. Every life we save, makes us whole again, and in repent for every life we take being soldiers. If I were to leave you now, even if we’ve never met before or will again, I would have not only failed myself, but others I swore duty and allegiance to. You have just as much right to live over any others that have fled ahead,” he said.
Meeting this fellow Akari, inspired Aria to how this individual treasures noble ideals, but those of others too, taking a philosophical view in some regards. She felt he was a sentimental idiot at times as often he lacked a soldier’s mentality, seeming more like a martyr set out to do the right thing.
“Then we’ll end up dead together,” she sighed.
“Stop your whining I’m dragging your ass back whether you like it or not. People sometimes live by a code, and I have one too. Loyalty to the Ascendency. In order to be loyal to the ascendency I must also be loyal to all that is under it, including you,” he simply put.
The fire in him helped Aria put in that extra effort to move with his aid. “Fine, I owe you a drink,” she offered and smiled even though she was pained and her face was hidden.
Finally their drop ship was visible, and beginning to powerup to take off. They did make it, but just barely. Akari waved ahead, and being now spotted, soldiers rushed out, jumping off the ramp towards them in order to get them on board in time. It was how she’d come to know him. The words he spoke had been etched into since then.
Now, having gone through even more missions with him as a brother in battle, his ethics always stood highly for her. There was no way she would believe that an Ailian with such high regard for mortality could be responsible for selling information to an outer group. How could they say he leaked military and government secrets? She didn’t know what she would say if she finally did confront him. How could she even be suspecting such a person right now?
Aria refocused on her current objectives. Loyalty to the Ascendency and all those under it. If this is an alliance, then all here, including the girl falls into the protection of the Ascendency, and must also be saved. Not that she wouldn’t have done it anyway.

Within an ancient shrine, at a secret location within the jungle, a short creature, with robes, stood, hooded. on at the end of a long hall, and what appeared like a throne of sorts behind him. The colours he wore were different, jet black opposed to the grays of the others. Golden trims lined the edges of his attire. He raised his arms, extending them forward as darkness exuded from his tiny little paws in mist like form towards a male who stood halfway down the hall within a black painted star on the ground. This nervous individual stood in wait as the receptacle of the darkness that was moving towards. Wearing nothing, the slender hyena with a slim build shivered being stark naked. His well chiseled body bore freshly tattooed symbols of the Black Star on the back of his hands and chest.
“You have been accepted, and now be gifted with these powers. Feel the embrace as you become demonised with blessed flesh that would never remain hurt, nor will allow you to die from any injuries. Be the perfect being, and the instrument of darkness you were meant to be with us,” he small creature said as the dark ribbons touched the new initiate.
“Gahhhhh!” the naked hyena screamed in agony as the darkness began to penetrate him. It flowed into his veins, circulating to every part of his body. It felt as if it were set on fire, which wasn’t all that far from the truth as steam began to rise from him. Black shadowy flames engulfed him as he crashed to the ground balling up. “Ahhh ahhhh ahhhh!” he continuously wailed. Finally it came to an end as the Master lowered his hands and turned to face Akari.
“I never get use to seeing this,” the feline said to the master. Watching other occultists move in to grab the hyena in order to take him away to be newly robed and fit to join the rest.
“Then why not try it out? I could grant you a means of being unkillable,” he said.
“I’ve been doing well enough to serve you without having an unfair advantage. There’s no thrill in a battle where I would have the advantage, no risk of death, it would be dull. Besides, that claim to immortality isn’t exactly true is it?”
“There is that. But still, that’s not a fact everyone knows, and we shall keep it between us. If I say it is, then my other subjects would beg to differ with you.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone. Also I’m not one of your other subjects, I am your highest ranking member, only second to you. I don’t feel the need to use such powers when my combat skills are sufficient enough to carry me through.”
“You are too prideful, and what if you were to face an adversary with powers that would overwhelm you?”
“I have mastered other powers of the black arts that suit me better,” the calico feline said. Despite not being with the Ascendency any longer, he still retained battle honor. “There is someone I need to deal with before I can even contemplate such things.” He walked up besides the master, and kneeled down. Even kneeling, he was far taller, than the master.
“Her again? But, do you think you can really kill her when it comes down to it, knowing you share a history?”
“Yes, she was nothing but a pawn. I feel nothing for her.”
“Really? Is that why you don’t accept my powers?” the master questioned, knowing he was walking on eggshells. Akari didn’t answer. “Your silence would suffice as an answer then,” he said, walking away. “We can talk all we want after the ritual, but for now, I have reason to suspect one of our own is planning a coup-d-etat. I want it squelched. You know who I’m talking about as you too had your suspicions about him.
“I’ll go tend to it, we don’t need any weak links within the structure, or cause strife within our prestigious order.”

“Whahoo! Letsy start already, I’m horny and my pussy is starving, the poor thing is even drooling!!” Z cried with little dignity or grace. She sat down on the ground, partially lying to her side. With a giggle she tore a little of her dress up the side to her panties.
Kalokin could feel his pulse beginning to rise. “Oh oh, wait, save the rest for me to rip off okay?”
“Yeah sure, make sure you’re rough and thorough! I’m ready now!” she said and put on her terrified face.
“Oh me-oh my, it’s like, totally the end for me, the giant snake demon will take me. Farewell world, my innocence shall stain the ground red. Oh snake, please don’t take my sexy wet pussy, it’s so tight and will be amazing around your twin cocks, but don’t do it!”
Kalokin smiled, and whispered to her, “Oh you’re really good at this, ahem,” he coughed clearing his throat before following up with his lines. “Oh fine babe, you shall be defiled, you are so hot and ripe for my penis. I shall fuck you so hard with my hemipenis it will split you in two. By the way want to try some anal too?”
“Sure,” she whispered before returning to her performance, “And and and, oh my! Not my asshole too, it is deliciously tight and you’re amazing cocks are too much to handle, save me someone, oh no! I’m doomed I tell you doomed, I’m going to lose both my anal and vaginal virginity!” she cried, placing the back of her hand over her forehead head with bad dialogue, and even worse acting.
Lurking around them, the occult were now set, and an unknown number of them were now in position. They had found their virgin to be, and under no circumstance were they willing to retreat without the acquisition of their trophy girl.
The time was now!
