PART: ONE HUNDRED & SEVENTEEN
I t was in a cramped hole in the wall that barely passed a coffee shop Ahsoka and Stone sat over a muddy cup of the establishments allegedly best brew, it looked as weak as it tasted. It was in no way at any stretch of the imagination what she considered as a mug of caffeine. Yet, it was however both hot and wet. Ahsoka noticed the lack of presence from the young hacker she had encountered the last time she had been here, she pushed such thoughts aside, such things had little to no impact on her current business. Besides she was more interested in the fracas that had occurred the other day with her Jack.
“I hear you dealt with a problem directed towards the subject?”
She asked quietly, looking at the nonchalant Stone as he sipped at his vile drink before grimacing as she put it back down, it was then that she noticing the lipstick marks possibly made from the chipped mugs previous user.
“For arceus sake, I can excuse this crap as drink, but at least clean the mugs properly”
Stone grumbled under his breath, then with a half smile that made his already horrifically scared visage appear even more unsettling he began to speak in a quiet tone as he leaned in closer towards his colleague.
“Seems the subject decided to go train while you met with me, a handful of brats from another region tried to bully him into giving them his pokémon, the subject refused, so they attempted to force him with their own pokémon”
Throwing her head back the amazon laughed loudly in absolute amusement at the mental image of what might have taken place, taking a few moments to regain her composure she offered up her hypothesis of what happened next.
“Let me guess, the subject’s party did not take kindly to that correct?”
She chuckled with a cruel icy tone; Stone met her gaze briefly before grinning right back at her whilst lifting his mug. Pausing a second he put it back down remembering the lipstick, as well as concern what the putrid coffee might do to his Bowles if he continued to drink it.
“You would be correct, I came on the scene as the lopunny was draining the very life out of two of the brats, it was the darnedest thing watching the light in a person’s starting to go dim, the subject was unaware of what was going on since the last member of the subjects team kept him distracted.”
It was a slight twist of the truth but it kept him from having to try and explain how they failed to catch the other two trainers from the orre region.
“We have a psi team reviving the two brats, after that they reworked their memories. Additionally, members of my team took care of the CCTV footage from the surrounding cameras.”
Stone stopped for a moment longer than he had intended, with a slow release of air he began adding tohis previous words though this time in an even quieter tone of voice.
“Though the one that fled the scene, we found him later, he had been crushed to death by some kind of insane gravitational force, all that was left was a cube no blood just a perfect little cube.”
This last part filled Ahsoka with a sense of dread, she kept it in check at least externally but behind the frosty mask that was her face she was fighting back the urge to run back to the suite she was renting, grab her lover before throwing their belongings into her car and just drive as fast as she could from moor bridge, though that was not going to happen any time soon. Whatever had been responsible, was not something she wanted to come face to face with, not even with all the considerable resources that team rocket could muster.
“Either, our mystery monster doesn’t tolerate others intruding upon its chosen prey, or it’s protecting the subject for who knows what reason, but I wouldn’t like to speculate to deeply upon this, I don’t want to be the next to attract it’s attention by doing so.”
Stone added, his face was emotionless but there was for the briefest moment a flicker of fear in the old veterans’ eyes, he looked into her eyes as if hoping to find some reassurance but only saw the ice cold gaze that seemed to be glaring through his very soul as if she measuring the mettle of his resolve.
“Get…It…Together”
She snarled firmly in a cold hushed voice, her words felt like a verbale slap to his face but snapped Stone back to his senses. She was glad since she was going to need all the support she could get her hand upon if things went as bad as that night at the motel, she still had trouble comprehending how whatever it was had managed to snag Jack from right out under their noses like that.
“We shouldn’t be in moor bridge for much longer, we just need to deal with a club event, a gym battle and then we can evac the hell out of here.”
Ahoska calmly stated, with a surge of will she felt herself pulling herself together enough to allow her to power on through to do what she needed to do. Meanwhile outside far up on one of the roof tops looking straight down a gardevoir watched and listened to the interactions, behind it two of Stones team member walked past paying the pokémon no notice as if it wasn’t even there but it as. It was content the female human was not a threat to her machinations, if anything it found itself rather interested in using her as pawn, so much so she had extended her considerable mental might to fortify the large woman courage. Though it found its train of thought not entirely sure as to what exactly its intentions towards the human Jack could be. Was he merely its next prey or was he some pretty bauble to play with until boredom set, her eyes hardened at the mere concept of discarding him let alone hurting him any further than it already had, it would not allow him suffer as it had all those years when its original human abandoned it, betrayed it, left it for die alone. The gardevoir frowned as it tried to force down all those memories not just the ones that caused its heart so much pain but those from when it had been a ralts and then a kirlia, the happiness the psychic/fairy type had felt previously during those wonderful times vanished the moment it had evolved. Tears flowed down along its face despite its best efforts to prevent this, it cursed Arceus’s name with as much venom as it could force into its unspoken words.
Silently, it started searching for new prey, a victim it could torment so as to spite the thrice accursed pokémon god, that it so despised with every fibre of its being. The gardevoir would its next victim suffer greatly, so it might gain some momentary respite from the memories that caused it so much anguish. The previous victim had barely been enough to sate its need, the foolish human had broken before it had even gotten started causing it to crush the pitiful insect just to extract even the smallest amount of perverse satisfaction. For the briefest second it considered the using the team rocket members currently moving about around it, then choose to disregard this possibility as it concluded to do so held risks it knew better than to provoke. No, it needed to find a more ideal target, preferably one that was alone and preferably in some isolated surroundings.
