PART SEVENTY SIX.

R eturning behind the barricade Jack was greeted by the rest of the group and all most bowled over as Oni launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck while burring her muzzle into the nape of his neck. Slipping his palm under her small haunches to steady her he felt the rasping of her long cold tongue against his skin causing him to smile tenderly, watching this Lucy forced herself to keep from doing likewise. Her paws fishing through their trainers backpack some water for Bunny who gulped it down thirstily, the Lucario blinked for a moment before speaking to her Lopunny teammate.

“Uh How was you able to do that, defeat an opponent with a type advantage over you, I mean look how big he was and his strength alone should have pulverised you yet you completely dominated that match…how?”

Bunny stopped about half way through the bottle to look at coyote pokémon before giving a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders as she casually replied to the question put to her.

“He was bigger yes; he was stronger again yes but was slower than me which allowed me to aim for the weak spots of his body”

The rabbit pokémon took a smaller gulp leaving only a quarter of the contents left in the bottle before continuing.

“When dealing with a foe many times your size and weight, don’t go toe to toe with them or you will end up a messy smear on the ground. Instead dodge their attacks where you can or failing that get in first and aim for the weak points.

Such as the backs of their joints, their eyes or ears but if their male and not made of metal or rock then aim for the groin it’ll halve their fighting ability unless they have their balls on the inside like those bug types then forget it, you’ll only leave yourself in a worse situation”

Lucy nodded as she listened taking on board every thing she was being told while applying it to memory the best she could, finishing the water Bunny handed the bottle back the next match began between a Scyther and a Kabutops. Their scythe like blades at the ends of their arms glinted in the neon lighting form above as they slowly circled each other moments before launching into a blur of furious blows that the other would parry, each trying to land a devastating attack against the other with little success. The opposing trainers bellowed their commands as fast as humanly possible in an attempt to get at least one blow before the time ran out, it seemed as if it would a draw until the Kabutops leaned in grasping a hold of its opponent to leach the very life from its Scyther foe who countered with a less than elegant move that came in the form of a head butt, sending the prehistoric pokémon staggering backwards. With its guard down the Kabutops was left wide open to the scythe, before it the Bug Pokémon could capitalise on this the timer ran out,the woman acting as referee took a few seconds as she considered the match before giving the win to the scythe, the two trainers shook hands before recalling their pokémon.

The next match had small white rabbit like pokémon that neither of them had seen before, its trainer had referred to it as Scorbunny though whether that was its name neither could be sure though the trainer had a strange foreign accent that was hard to understand though the girl sounded somewhat crass and loud in nature. The battle however ended quickly with a one shot win against a Tangela with a vicious flaming kick, the trainer didn’t see much of a good sport as she taunted her defeated opponent with a string of word the Lopunny couldn’t make heads nor tails of.

“Cheer us on, we’re up next!”

Jack’s voice chirped excitedly snapping the Lopunny form her thoughts, turning her head she gave big smile accompanied by a firm nod of her head as she watched Blaze walk proudly along side their Human. Towering over him as they made their way towards the arena where a guy in a dark blue tang suit, in all he was well presented giving a curt respectful nod as he gestured for Jack to take his position.

“Good Luck”

Jack called out to which the man brought a fist into an open palm before calling out his pokémon, drawing out his mobile phone he tapped the pokédex app and looked at the what he was dealing with.

“Hmnn a Mienshao, could be a tough one Blaze you still up for thi…”

He never got to finish his sentence as his Blaziken strode out in front of him eyeing the smaller fighting type, the referee began to speak causing both trainers along with their pokémon focus upon their opposing team. Blaze got down in to a deep defensive stance, she needed no prematch strategizing to take on her foes only for her trainer to believe in her.

“READY!….FIGHT!”

The Woman cried out beginning the match, straight away the weasel pokémon issued a loud cry as it launched into a flurry of punches and kicks as its trainer issued short sharp commands. Jack watched calmly his eyes while unable to follow the blurring motions of the two pokémon, he was secure in the knowledge that he could trust in Blaze’s reflexes as he waited for the right moment to issue his command. Blaze meantime was fully focused on her foe as she pivoted her right foot into the ground from side to side increase to brace herself more fully against the onslaught of attacks being brought to bear, her arms absorbed the relentless assault as they covered vital areas of her body.

“Aura Sphere!”

The opposing trainer barked causing the Mienshao to flip backwards away from its avian foe, both Blaze and Jack leaned in with a smile their fingers twitching in unison each readying themselves for their first move. The Mienshao was moving its arms in classic Tai-Chi style gathering bubbles of translucent light blue energy towards its paws, as a buzzing sound began to form becoming louder as the forming sphere increased in size until the weasel pokémon somersaulted towards Blaze to build up momentum throwing it with all the strength it could muster.

“REDIRECT IT!”

Jack had begun to call out but Blaze was all ready on the move, dropping low with arms thrown back behind her she charges in with hands open in a claw like position as flames ignited from her forearms like an inferno. She was like a fiery blur as she headed directly towards the oncoming ball of energy, at the very last possible moment she leapt up clasping the sphere in her talon like hand. Twisting 360° in mid air the Blaziken sent it rocketing back towards the Mienshao forcing it to go on the defence as it was sent flailing backwards, flipping back onto its feet it shook its head clear just as Blaze landed with a series of fire filled sweeping kicks catching the Mienshao still off guard.

“Calm Mind, Then Counter Its Attack!”

The opposing trainer calmly called out, the Mienshao once more back flipped away to give itself room to regain its composer by refocusing its mind, though Blaze wasn’t about to allow the other pokémon the chance to do this, the Blaziken had all read began drawing in a deep lung full of air as her trainer even had time to call out to her.

“FLAME THROWER!”

By the time Jack had finished his command her head had shot forth while her arms were flung behind her as a gout of fire burst forth from her open beak engulfing the Miensho forcing it to scream out in agony, its fur scorched the fighting type was down on one knee panting heavily. Blaze had held back considerably upon the temperature of the fire she had expelled as it was just a pokémon battle, not some life or death struggle with a wild pokémon, it was however hot enough to still cause significant burn damage to her opponent without setting it on fire.

“THE TIME LIMIT HAS ELAPSED!”

The referee declared loudly stopping the fight, the Miensho’s trainer looked as if he was going to complain that his pokémon partner could still continue the fight but one piercing glare of her eyes through her glasses shut his protest down before it had even been sounded. Jack walked over to the panting Blaze and wrapped his arms around from behind making her cluck happily as he hugged her, the two trainers didn’t need to wait long as the woman gave a discreet cough to get everyone’s attention before speaking once more in to the mouth piece of her head set.

“After careful consideration I have concluded that the winner of this match…..Heero Balmoor!”

Jack’s opponent gave a slight nod of his head slowly as he recalled his Miensho as once more the man bowed bringing his fist into an open palm then took his leave, Blaze snorted in outrage at this decision, getting to her feet she flung her arms up in the air still holding Jacks wrist in her grasp, his feet dangled their held aloft by the Blaziken’s immense strength. It had been a hard fought five minuets with a victory that could have been awarded either way so he couldn’t fault the woman for her decision, the money would have been handy but in the end, they had done their best that was all any one could do.

“Blaze it’s okay, you did your best that all that matters”

Blaze lowered her arms spitting a small gout of flame, she wanted to scream at the top of her lungs at the sheer injustice of it all, she had the Miensho on the defence and giving up ground as she pressed the attack yet she had been declared the looser of their fight.

“Blaziken…Blaze…Blaziken…Ken…Ken…BLA…ZI…KEEEEN!”

[This Sucks Jack, I was winning yet…I GET DECLARED THE LOSER!]

The tall avian snapped aggressively feelin the overwhelming need punch something, Jack eased his fingers into her larger talon like hand while whispering as he brought the back of her hand to his lips kissing it gently.

“I understand, I wanted to face off against the regional champion and learn something from him with all my heart, but this just means we have more time to prepare to face him once we beat the elite four”

The Blaziken sighed closing her eyes taking a few deep breaths to keep her rage in check; storing it for the gym battle to come, her beloved Jack was right and acting like some hatchling would not change anything. Instead she would work out her frustrations on whatever pokémon where thrown at her by the Forest City Gym Leader then use what was left over on her Trainer in bed.
