That mocking voice in here head just laughed at her, before Kelly burst into tears and fled through the park, her cloven hooves beating a staccio against the ground and then on the concrete pathways. Both public and keeper alike watched the hysterical whitetail run – but Kelly was oblivious, her head aching and heart breaking in two as that voice kept niggling at her again and again.'

“Stop it, stop it, stop it!" Kelly shrieked, clutching her head between her paws and shaking it violently from side to side.

Why hide the truth? You know exactly what he's done, oh, sure, justify it to yourself – you're not some silly fawn – you -know- exactly what he done. Are you not good enough for him anymore? Do you not please him – sexually? Come now, he's only a human, weak, pathetic...unworthy of a doe's affections and mating with him? What's it like – do you even -feel- him inside of you? Well...do you?

“Our sex life is none of your concern!" Kelly sobbed, as she slammed into the door of her shared cottage, her tear streaked eyes unable to focus, as her shaking paws gripped the handle, then began rattling it.

Isn't it now? My, how interesting – truly – he doesn't measure up, does he? Oh, I know you little Doe, better than yourself – I've seen the things you done in the past, oh, the dark secrets you have locked inside here with me. Shall I tell him some of them? What you've done over the years?

At last, Kelly's paws unlocked the door and she shoved it open, slamming it hard against the wall as she fled through the hallway, then threw herself down on the bed. Pulling her pillow over her head, Kelly sobbed uncontrollably, her body shaking with fear and confusion, torn between two equally powerful emotional states.

“Stephen, this is Park Control," Crackled Stephen's radio.

“Receiving," Stephen replied, as he held the radio to his mouth and closed the gate to the giraffe enclosure behind him. “What can I do for you Park Control?"

“You're needed back at your cottage – urgently – Park Control, out."

Stephen frowned, then fear twisted his innards as he feared Kelly had been in some terrible accident. He ran like the hounds of Hades were on his heels, then when he made it to their cottage, he found some fellow keepers standing around, most looking concerned and worried.

“What – where's Kelly, what happened to her?" Stephen gasped, as he rested his hands on his knees, panting and sweating.

“Steven, she – she's hysterical, we don't know what's wrong with her, but she's in there and when we tried to go talk to her - “

Stephen blocked out the rest of the conversation, as he tore open the door and ran inside, eyes wide and frantic, before he found Kelly on the bed. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he reached out and lightly touched her quaking shoulder, before she snarled in a feral growl – her left paw flashing out, fingers curved. He just avoided her hooflets – feeling the wind of them passing his chest, as he leaned back.

“Woah...hey, Kelly? It's me – its Stephen...honey, whats wrong?"

“You sick bastard!" Kelly shrieked, then threw the pillow at him as she clambered off the bed. “I'll kill you, how – how could you?"

Stunned, Steven blinked, confused and bewildered, before Kelly moved fast, her fingers wrapped around his throat as she slammed him back against the wall. Pictures and paintings fell off the wall, their glass shattering, as Kelly's forearms flexed and she lifted him off the floor. Her ears flat against the back of her neck, eyes narrowed into rage and a feral intensity, Stephen had never seen in his beloved.

“Kelly – please, you're - “ Stephen choked, clawing at her arms, dark spots forming at the edge of his vision.

You sick fucking bastard – I know what you did! Do you hear me? I know!" Kelly wailed, her grip tightening and saliva spraying from her muzzle. “I'm going to ensure you never - “

Kelly blinked, twisting her head to the side, as she barely caught the glimpse of a feathered dart that was buried in her back, just below her right shoulder. Her knees turned to water, then her eyes become blurred and unfocused, before she crumpled to the floor, consciousness fleeing her body. Stephen collapsed as well, then rolled away from her, choking and gagging, his eyes wide in terror and alarm.

“What, who - “ Stephen gurgled.

A young Wolf girl lowered the tranquilliser rifle she clutched, then sniffled and shuddered, her eyes wide like dinner plates.

“I heard that there was trouble - “ She stammered in fright. Penny was young, only sixteen by human years, and this was only her second day at the sanctuary. “I – I didn't hurt her, did I? Oh, please tell me I'm not in trouble, I heard the call on the radio and I just - “

Other senior keepers come in, two checking on Stephen, then radioing for a Ambulance, whilst another crouched and placed his fingers on Kelly's throat.

“You done well Jasmine," One of the senior keepers told her, then took the rifle from the trembling wolfess's paws. “Great thinking, you probably saved a life here, excellent!"

Unbelieving, Penny blinked, then as she was lead away, she glanced back over her shoulder. “She's going to be okay – isn't she? Kelly's nice, I like her - “

Steven got checked over by an Ambulance crew, but other than some minor abrasions and bruising, they passed him fit for returning to duty. He returned to his cottage, where two veterinarian's were working on Kelly.

“Is she – please tell me she will be alright - “ Stephen asked them, as he slumped into a chair, placing his head in his hands.

“We've given her an anti-tranquilliser injection, also a mild sedative. It'll keep her calm and relaxed. Any idea what made her do that? I've known Kelly since she first joined the Sanctuary! Never seen a harsh word, or even mild irritation, she's been such an amazing keeper - “ One of them spoke, as the other placed a stethoscope on her chest, then listened.

“I don't know, truly I don't..." Stephen admitted. “Kelly was fine yesterday, she started early this morning – I overslept, but usually she wakes me and – I just don't know, this is so, out of character for her!"

Packing up, they shook hands with Stephen, then quietly made their way out of his and Kelly's cottage. He sat on the edge of the bed, holding Kelly's left paw in both his hands, using his thumbs to gently stroke her pale fur.

“Urk - “ Kelly gargled, eyelashes fluttering open, feeling like they were weighed down with lead bricks. Her nostrils flared and she squeezed her eyes closed, smelling Stephen's scent.

“Honey – what's wrong, are you sick?" Stephen asked, gently stroking the edge of Kelly's furred cheek with the back of his hand.

“Get – away from me - “ Kelly wheezed, then slapped weakly at him.

“Kelly, its me – its Stephen – honey, what's wrong, please tell me..."

“No - “ Kelly sniffled, the tears starting to trickle out of the corners of her eyes, as she rolled away from him and began quietly sobbing.

“Sweetheart, please - “ Stephen begged, as he touched her lightly on the hip. “What did I do to make you so – unhappy? Please tell me love, I beg of you!"

“What did you - “ Kelly whispered, before she shuddered and sniffled. “I found out Stephen, I know what you done – you bastard – which one of them was it?"

“Who – I don't understand honey, who was – what? What did I supposedly do?"

Kelly wept as she leapt from the bed, rushing to the bathroom then she rummaged for a moment, before throwing Stephen's uniform at him.

Smell this!" Kelly wailed, as she turned away from him, her paws gripping the small vanity sink and trying to hold herself together.

Stephen frowned, then he held his uniform, turning it this way and that, before he put it aside and timidly walked over to the crying doe, gently sliding his hands around her hips.

“Leave me alone!" Kelly sobbed, as her right cloven hoof crashed against the floor with a loud clop.

“Kelly, please - “

“Am I not good enough for you? Do I not please you? You – you had to go mate with one of the deer – one of the doe's! What did you do to her? Did you tranquillise her, so she would be helpless? Did you?"

Stephen was lost for words, the blood draining from his face, as he shook with fear and stress – how did Kelly find out about him and Jasmine? How?

Suddenly, his mind replayed what she had said to him – then he moaned and stumbled backwards, falling onto the bed, his body turning ice cold, as the shock hit him between the eyes...

Kelly was an anthropomorphic Whitetail deer – her sense of smell, was hundreds, if not thousands of times stronger than a humans – he hadn't showered or washed his uniform, after sharing Jasmine's willing affections that day – now – he had to face the consequences of his reckless actions...
