Updates will be coming more often now that I'm finally moved out.

Third POV two weeks later

James smiled and looked at Emerald as she ate. She and he had been doing two to three jobs daily for two weeks. He was happy to see she was finally putting on weight. James had let her keep more than half of the little money they made. At first, many older beasts around town thought James was using her to make quick coin but were shocked to learn from other adventures he gave her more than half the money made from the quests. Many couldn’t believe it or that he also threatened the owner of the boarding house. If he found out Emerald was harmed in any way, he’d break every bone in his body. James had also learned much about Emerald, which upset him. Emerald's older brother, who was meant to watch over her, had made a mountain of debts and then ran off with everything they had that was worth money. James swore he'd tear him up if he got his hands on him.

“Hey James.”

James hummed as he looked into Emerald’s eyes. She smiled as she finished her third plate and looked at the only one who’d held a hand out to her to help. She wiped her mouth before speaking.

“We still have some time left if you don’t mind can we do a fourth job?”

James nodded before he reached over and grabbed his shield and mace.

“What do you want to do this time? Another herb job, or.”

“We can do one of the monster jobs if you’d like.”

James looked at her, surprised. He’d avoided those lower-ranked monsters until Emerald had gained more weight and strength.

“Are you sure?”

Emerald nodded as she looked at him.

“Ya, we need to start doing the monster quest if we ever want to rank up to the better jobs.”

James nodded, then grabbed his gear and stood. He put his mace through a loop on his side as Emerald stood and grabbed her short sword. She slipped it under her belt and held her shield as she followed James to the bronze job board. He saw three kinds of monsters to fight: slimes, goblins, and giant rats. All were the trash mobs you'd find in starter villages or dungeons in games. James hummed and looked at Emerald.

“You pick. We've been doing the easy jobs I've been picking out.”

Emerald nodded, then took a request for ten slime cores that was an okay pay. They would also pay for extras we may get. But, James had told Emerald about the mercent guild and they did make good money that way. Any extra herbs they got they sold for extra cash, which Emerald was grateful for.

“Slimes a nice and easy start for monsters.”

James had learned that slimes only needed one good hit before it died. Even with Emerald’s body recovering, she should be okay with this.

“These are pest monsters so nobody will care if he take more then is needed for the quest.”

Nodding, James watched her walk up to the counter and start talking to one of the guild employees. He smiled as he looked at her, nodded his head, and started thinking. He had asked Sir Wildfang to plant his potatoes to ensure he would have more later. He’d also been investing his money in supplies to finish repairing the house Sir Wildfang had given him. The house was still liveable, but the wood around the doors, windows, and porch was beaten up pretty badly. The house was a two-story house with five bedrooms and a fireplace with a large wood burning stove for cooking. With all that, he didn’t need the money as badly as Emerald did.

“Sir James. Is Sir James in the hall?”

James turned and saw Ace coming in with some papers. James raised his shield arm and called out to him as he started to walk.

“Hey, Ace what do you need?”

Ace smiled as he saw the only human he respected. He held out a couple of sheets of paper to james.

“Two requests straight from Sir Wildfang. One is a request for you and a partner to act as extra support for a three-day for mission to take supplies to a fort used to train new soldiers. The second is related as it has to deal with other humans.”

James nodded as he looked over the papers.

“I see, so he wants to see how well I can do as his private adventure.”

Everyone around stopped as they heard that. To be a noble’s private adventure was a high-paying gig, but a duke's private adventure was nearly unheard of. They have some of the best-paying jobs, and females were all but jumping on you as your job security was damn near rooted in place. Emerald, hearing that, looked at James, shocked that he hadn’t told her anything. She wondered if this was a new thing or was from the start.

“Okay Ace, me and Emerald will be at the manner in an hour or so.”

Emerald’s eyes went wide as she looked at James. She quickly started to fix her hair and she cursed under her breath as she looked down and saw her armor was more beat up than she would have liked for this.

“Okay James, I will have a tent for two with the escort cart.”

With a nod, Ace left the hall. James looked back and saw Emerald going crazy as she looked over her body. He laughed before he reached out and grabbed her shoulder. Emerald stopped and she looked at James.

“Why don’t we go to the market? I need to pick up a few things, and I’ll pay for lunch.”

Emerald smiled as she calmed down and nodded as she looked at her. James saw he put the request back, and then she looked at the request papers. She froze when she saw the amount the duke was willing to pay. For both jobs, they would gain ten small gold coins. The only coin worth more was the large gold coin. If James followed through on his pay pattern, she could pay off more than half of her brother’s debt in a single go.

“Don’t worry Emerald the way we’ve been doing this still stands.”

Emerald looked at James, shocked that he would give her that much money.

“A-are you sure?”

James laughed as he looked at her. He walked over and pulled her into a one-armed hug. Her snout rested on his shoulder, and she deeply sniffed his scent. His scent was that of a rain strong with a hint of an earthy, almost like a spring breeze. Emerald subconsciously leaned more into James. Emerald wasn’t used to a soft touch but wrapped her arms around his chest a few seconds later. She was happy to know that she had been partnered up with her. James laughed before he broke the hug and patted her arm before grabbing her free hand. Emerald had a small blush as she followed him out. The other beasts around them looked at the two, and a few other males felt slightly jealous of James. He was set for life with a deal like he had, and now many knew Emerald was a gem of a female they ignored. Once she had been cleaned up and put weight back on, they all saw she was female most males would kill to have.

With James and Emerald twenty minutes later.

James smiled as he watched Emerald as she ate a skewer of meat. He’d gotten his new blades for his hand planers. Knowing that they still had time, James took Emerald to his house. She saw a large tent with some firewood on the side. Emerald saw the house was beaten up but was still a nice house for sure.

“James it this your home?”

James nodded as he walked over to the door and pulled out a key.

“Feel free to come in.”

Emerald did, and she looked around at the first floor. There were new floorboards and window seals and no drafts like in the basement room. However, she could see the house was still being worked on.

“James do you inherit this house?”

James nodded as he set his tools out on a workbench.

“No, Sir Wildfang gave this house to me as I am his adventure. But it’s been pretty beaten up, so I’ve been working on it for the last few weeks. I was planning to show you this place once I was done It’s too big for one person.”

Emerald, hearing that, blushed and looked at him as he started to change the blades.

“Y-you wanted to take me to your home?”

James nodded as he worked on the tools.

“Ya, I wanted to get you out of that hellhole of boarding house. Plus, we mix really well and we don’t fight, and I figured that we could live together. You can save all the money you don’t need to spend on it.”

Emerald's blush worsened as she was shocked at the amount of thought James had put into her well-being.

“W-well, I wouldn’t mind living with you, but. A male and female living together unmated is frowned upon.”

James turned to look at her with a smile.

“If that makes you uncomfortable, why don’t we just say we’ve started dating? Once you get all that mess your brother left behind, we can just say we didn’t work out.”

He turned back around and started to work again. Emerald looked at his back and blinked as she stood there. She’d never heard of any beast or humans who thought of others this much. Without thinking about it, she walked over to him and hugged him. Her shield blacked his hands, and he felt her breast, and he couldn't help but notice the size she had. She had to be at least a double d cup.

“I would mind that, but you never know what may happen if I take a liking to you.”

James blushed as he felt her breath on the back of his neck.

“E-emerald I…”

She laughed as she pulled back, leaving James with a strong blush. He’d never had a woman of any kind that close to him. James looked at her, and she smiled as she looked at him. She laughed and then walked to the door, her hips swaying slightly. His eyes could not look away as she walked out of the door. James smiled as he looked at the door.

“Damn, what happened to the sweet Emerald.”

Twenty minutes later

James smiled as they approached the small group around the three carts. They saw the guards who were going to go with them. As they got close, Emerald walked closer to James as the guards looked at them. The guards were shocked when they saw the human walking up with a female with a body that made their jaws drop. A female like this was an adventurer, patterned up with the human James. As they got close, both of the adventurers heard the males having a conversation.

“Why is a female like this not a house wife?”

Two nodded, not noticing how close they were.

“Seriously, a female like that is a rare beauty, why is she an adventurer?”

Laughing, James looked at the blushing Emerald as she looked at the ground. Deciding to have fun with her, James wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his side. Emerald blushed even redder, and she put a hand on his chest and looked at the guards again. The other males looked jealous as they looked at the two. When they were close, James grabbed Emerald by her hips and lifted her onto the back of the rear cart. He sat her down on it, and James smiled as he saw her blush. He patted her side before he turned and saw the hounds. He laughed a little as he saw them glaring at him. James leaned back into the cart, and a few minutes later, they all heard a call out.

“Were moving!”

Getting off the cart, James grabbed Emerald's knee when she tried to get off the back seat. She smiled and stayed seated as She, and he knew her body was still recovering from her malnutrition. She was still recovering and grateful for James's kind heart and would show her graduate after she moved into his home.

Three hours later

James hummed a song as he walked down the road. Emerald smiled as she watched James walk beside her. She kicked her legs as she rode on the cart. She wondered what they could get up to once these jobs were over.

“Hey we got some slimes ahead of us. Someone clear them out real quick!”

James pierced up and smiled as he pulled his mace from his side.

“Coming!”

She watched him rush off to the front of the cart line. Emerald, deciding to stay with him, jumped off and drew her sword. She walked around and saw James smashing a slime, splattering it, and the core bouncing out. She sheathed her sword, pulled the bag around from her bag, and started to gather the cores as James started to wipe the slimes out quickly. Emerald was glad to see so many. The merchant guild does pay better then the guild for the spare cores. She was so glad to know that, as it had helped her pay off her brother's debt. In the time she’d been working with him, her life had gotten so much better. She could eat two to three meals a day. She was starting to buy new clothes that didn’t have holes and blankets that kept her warm at night. Emerald was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard a cat call from behind her.

“Her bitch bend over move!”

Emerald covered her rear as she leaned and glared at the two younger hounds driving the cart. The other hounds laughed, and a few yelled for her to bend back over. She was about to yell at her and wave his hand over before a dead slime slammed into his face. He fell off the and all the and all the laughing stopped. The boxer hound pulled the slime off and glared at James. They all looked at James as he stomped down onto the slime, killing it as he looked at them. He smiled before he started to talk to him.

“If you all cat call my female again, well. Let's just say that this will be a long along three days.”

His face looked kind, but his tone was a clear warning to avoid him and her. She smiled when she saw the guards all looked away from her. Then, with an evil smirk, she looked at James, deciding to have some fun with him. She turned to the side and shook her hips for him.

“Good boy maybe I’ll return the kindness later tonight.”

James turned red, and the other guards growled with jealousy as they looked at James. It pissed them off that a female like that wanted to be with a human over a hounds like them. James smiled as he walked over and wrapped an arm around Emerald’s waist.

“Come on.”

Emerald didn’t fight him as they started to walk again. Once they were at the back again, James sat her back down on the back of the cart again. James smiled as the cart started to move again. Once they started moving again, Emerald quickly counted the slime cores and told James that he had killed eleven slimes. James nodded then he heard that voice again.

‘You have leveled up three times and now are level six. You are six levels away from a rank up.’

The green screen appeared, and James noticed Nobody else.

James blinked before moving his arms up, and the screen vanished. James smiled as the carts pulled into a clearing next to a river. Once the carts stopped, James reached into the back cart, and Emerald helped pull it out of a large tent. James noticed that the guards were glaring at him. He smiled back and reached for his mace. They quickly looked away, scared of his wrath of the human. Letting go of his mace he helped to drag the tent over to near the middle. He sent Emerald away to get food while he started on the tent. He quickly pulled the tent off and set the five poles aside. He moved to spread the tent out, and Emerald brought back the food as James lifted the flaps and saw where the long middle pole was. After a few more minutes he had the tent up, and Emerald had finished her food and was moving the bedding into the tent. James then started to eat his food. The meal was a simple soap and bread but he was happy with the food.

“Thanks for setting this up James.”

He nodded at her words. Looking back, he saw Emearld undoing her armor straps. He smiled and turned back to his food. He couldn't help but wonder what the next few days had in store for him.
