What happened to grizzly? Did he make it or did he….
“This Grizzly you speak of, was amazingly able to withstand over one hundred rounds before he died. Luckily, only one of our officers suffered a single gunshot wound to the arm."
I see. I guess he didn't go out with a bang but a whimper instead, he wouldn't be too thrilled if he found out about that. I personally never visited the Citadel but the People of Omaga were always depicted as strong, powerful and passionate. Grizzly was no exception, he and hunter both were the most manliness guys that i ever seen. Now, grizzly is dead along with the rest of Omaga. The more I look back on it, we did a piss poor job taking care of ourselves. I mean, you would have thought that a small group of boys who formed a close bond with each would survive the impossible but that's not the case here.
I'm not exactly sure whether I should blame the beastmen for all that happened or our government. Am I…… going to die?
“I can't answer that Dex. It's too early to tell what will happen to you."
I know you want to kill me, The look on your face proves it all! I'm not ready to die yet, there's so much stuff I want to do. I still haven't drove the fastest cars or climb the tallest of mountains! I still haven't traveled the world yet! I can't die now!
“Doctor! We are in need of your assistance!"
Why me? Why does this shit happen to me, I just want things to go back to normal! Is that too big of an request? I want a girlfriend! I want to drink and have fun. I didn't ask for any this, none of us did. I feel like I'm going to be sick.
“Dex, I'm right here. Drink this, it'll calm you down. There you go! Now I'm going to need you to breathe in and out slowly."
Ok, ok, I'm good. Thanks doc, it's just that I'm just not in my right mind.
“It's okay Dex, we can continue some other time."
No, it's fine. Let's just….. get this done and over with. I did as grizzly asked and ran for my life, not daring to look back. Hunter strategically positioned behind our leader to protect him against incoming fire while our remaining members scattered. We were only a few meters from the tree line when i heard hunter hissing, I turned to see that he was shot multiple times along the back but still kept his composure and continued to follow Vincent. When we reached the woods, the firefight suddenly ended, leaving only the distant howls and barks of the beastmen.
Only me, Vincent and hunter and was left. I'm not sure what happened to the others but the situation was well passed the worse case scenario. Hunter sat up against a nearby tree and looked at me with a painful expression. “I don't think i'm going to make it." He wheezed out, having both of his hands closed around his stomach in a desperate attempt to stop the bleeding. “The medic is dead and I have nothing to fix this. Don't let me slow you down." I wanted to grab him by the collar of his shirt and yell in his face but Vincent stopped me.
“Dex, he's right. Our time is running short." Vincent interrupted while kneeling in front of the big guy and placed a hand on his shoulder. “What do you want me to do hunter?" He asked him softly.
“You are fair more important than me. Leave this place and find what you are searching for." Hunter responded with a huff. I never saw someone with so much devotion in their eyes before, even to the point of which they would gladly lay down their lives for them. One look into his eyes was more than enough proof that hunter was ready to die and it terrified me. Vincent however, was unfazed by his resolve. He simply got up and walked away from the guy that stood by his side from the very beginning. “So be it, you know what to do at this point. Dex let's go." he said coldly.
Only me and Vincent remained. So many of our comrades died pointless deaths. In hindsight, we were fools to think that we could do whatever we want in a hostile world. I couldn't help but believe that there was still a way to restore our former glory, to bring back everyone who perished but it feels more and more like a fairy tale than anything else.
“A king without his subjects is no king at all." I heard vincent mutter under his breath while we were jogging deeper into the Forest. I asked him to repeat what he said but he simply shook his head. “It's nothing you need to worry about. However, could you promise me something?" he asked me.
I was hesitate, this was the first time asked me to do him a favor. “what is it?" I asked.
He stopped jogging and stared at me with those eyes of his. “Promise that you'll never forget about me or what I stand for. That no matter what happens, you will always believe in me?" It felt odd for him to asked me something like that in a time like this. Vincent earned my loyalty long ago, not to mention that I already showed him how far I willing to go for the sake of humanity. Without hesitation, I slowly kneeled in front of him with my head bowed once more, hand placed over my chest. “Never in a million years my king, I will follow you to the bitter end." My response was filled with pride and determination, I wanted Vincent to know that I would never leave his side but unfortunately, it wasn't the answer he was looking for as he frown at me for first time."
“Dammit Dex, you'll still not ready."
I looked up to see Vincent's fist strike the side of my face, causing me to stumble back and lose my balance. I couldn't stop myself from tumbling down the steep hill, kicking up a mixture of dirt and rocks. I felt one of legs fractured to multiple pieces as I landed hard on the ground. The pain was too much for me as all I could do was scream. “One day, I'll come back for you my friend, in one form or another." Vincent yelled out to me before disappearing out of sight, leaving me alone with an broken leg.
