The Sentinel watched us stoically, glancing over to Inferno I see her shiver uncomfortably. I wonder if she's picking up on my feelings... Seeing movement I glance back to notice the sentinel pulling its weapon back and lifting its arm, with immediate and obvious strength, the metallic being swung the flail over its head and began to build momentum, getting faster with each swing. Clearly preparing for another attack.
“Surely, my Tyrant, it doesn't think it can hit us from down there?" Inferno inquiries. I was uncertain, I doubt it could but then I knew nothing about this species or mechanical instrument. The metal tribe certainly would have known, I suspect, unfortunately they don't reside here. Distracted by thought I didn't notice the Sentinel suddenly launch its flail into the air towards us at an alarmingly fast pace.
With quick reflexes we both flap hard in opposite directions, parting ourselves and creating a path for the weapon to pass between us, just barely missing me. Following the trajectory we both watch the arch as the flail begins to fall to the ground again, I turn back to look towards the Sentinel with a smirk but it's quickly wiped from my face as I stare at an empty ground. The Sentinel had vanished from sight, a moment of panic set in my mind from Inferno, who also seemed to have lost track of the metallic being as we both searched around the vicinity.
There was a slight whooshing sound from behind. I turned to see the source and am met with a fast approaching flail once again flying towards me. Alarmed by the surprise attack, I managed to twist, almost rolling in place in the air as one of the spikes on the flail slides harmlessly over one of my scales. Barely grazed I look back to see the Sentinel stood with its arm extended towards me before it disappeared right before my eyes, I hadn't even blinked!
Inferno and I quickly flew upwards, gaining more height as I look back to where the weapon landed in time to see the relentless Sentinel swinging the flail again, already at an even greater speed. It's intention and obvious ability to throw so high, was paused only as it seemed to try and predict our movements. How had it gotten to it's weapon again so quickly?! Was the thing really that fast? There's a squeaking voice as the kobold in my talons tries to speak out, but I am too focused on deciphering our enemy to take any notice. This was no simple rescue operation any more, this was a threat. A threat that needed to be dealt with, a threat that needed to be eradicated!
Changing tactics I call over to Inferno before passing the kobold over and diving downwards, charging forwards and preparing to release my breath attack. The Sentinel let go of its weapon once more but it was way too high to be aiming for me now as it soared right over me, grinning as the Sentinel must have messed up its aim, I begin to charge up my breath. Right as I'm about to unleash the attack the Sentinel, just as suddenly as before, blinked out of existence right before me. Stopping an expulsion of my breath, I manage to save the use of it as I swoop upwards again turning, trying to figure out where the construct had gone.
Searching afar, at the still soaring weapon I see now the metallic biped flying through the air hanging onto its own weapon! How in the hells... The flail and creature fell short of Inferno, likely due to the Sentinel's weight had taken the momentum away from the thrown weapon, as both began to fall to the ground. Perhaps the impact will end it... There was a more audible crash as the creature fell to the ground this time with its flail, it seemed to land and barely need a second before it was standing once more and preparing another throw towards the rubyesque dragoness.
The kobold, of course! It didn't care about us, we were simply an obstacle to this construct, its target has only ever been the kobold. But Why? What made the kobold so important? Another throw and the flail was aimed higher to try and hit Inferno again, of course she was more than capable of avoiding it. Barely a few feet from the ground I let myself drop and begin to charge, running across the sod towards where I saw the weapon arching towards the ground once more, I had a theory and stampeded in to test it.
My eyes are locked on the weapon as I run forwards, watching it thud heavily into the ground sending dirt and grass in a few directions, without missing a beat I launch myself forwards and right as I close in on the weapon, the Sentinel appeared, faster than I could blink holding the handle. Perfect. Despite my prediction and pre-emptive attack however, the constructs second hand was grasping my snout with uncanny strength and speed overpowering my jawline, preventing me from clasping my jaws around it. While it kept a firm hold on my maw I ploughed the metal bipedal into the ground. Crashing into a skid, grinding across the muddy surface until finally coming to a halt.
The Sentinel was still intact, it had easily survived being ploughed through soil with such force, not so surprising considering its landing earlier. However its grip on me had loosened and I roll myself over, pulling the metal biped over with me, clawing at its body with little affect other than leaving punctured holes. The Sentinel tried to re-secure its grip on my maw, the second hand jabbing into my jawline. Although it failed to secure my maw, I still quickly had to stop myself a second time from releasing my breath attack, as Calamity had finally caught up and inadvertently ruined my chance in a desperate desire to defend me. I felt his fear for me enter my mind, as he barges into the Sentinel spewing his acid breath. The metal biped disappears instantly avoiding the acid.
A sudden roar is heard from behind followed by feelings of pride from Inferno. I swing my neck round to see the rubyesque dragoness standing beside the Sentinel, it had once more teleported to it's flail back where I'd ploughed into it, but perhaps somewhat damaged and slowed thanks to mine and Calamity's brute force, it hadn't reacted quick enough this time. The machete attachment on her tail had successfully pierced through the Sentinels chest. She swings the metal biped around before catapulting it through the air. The Sentinel simply disappears and reappears besides Inferno who quickly jumps back and takes a defensive stance clutching her arm and assumedly the kobold close to her chest. Inferno must have figured out the armoured being teleported back to its weapon too, she had been waiting by it, ready to strike as it reappeared.
Calamity was soon by my side fussing over me, enquiring for injuries, my eyes were still focused on the biped, despite the damaged dealt, its relentless nature seemed to keep it functioning. I stopped the green dragon with a barking command “Catch the Kobold!" Before turning to see Inferno pulling back her tail, about to make a second attack as the metal biped was beginning to lift its arm with flail in tow. “Kobold! Now!" Thankfully Inferno correctly interpreted the command and mouthed something, likely an apology to the poor tormented creature in her claws as she threw the constructs target over its head and towards us.
Exactly as I expected the bipeds swing was thrown off as it's target was suddenly tossed over towards me and Calamity, ignoring the kobold myself and trusting the green dragon to catch her, I focused my eyes on the Sentinel, now with a puncture slit you could see straight through its chest and back, as it began to charge for us.
“Clear the vicinity!" I roared demandingly, followed by growling fiercely, my fangs on display. Calamity was behind me and as I heard a slight cry from the kobold landing hard in his forelegs he quickly moved himself back knowing my intentions. Inferno too quickly flew up and away, clearing the area.
The Sentinel, once again, swings its flail overhead then throws it towards me. So predicable, your own undoing. I prepare my breath attack, remaining calm, no intention of avoiding the weapon, waiting for the right moment for the Sentinel to appear before me. As the metal biped blinks into existence before me, I open my maw, erupting forth, my breath of jet black smog, bursting outwards, quailing forward in coiling tendrils of darkness. Enclosing around the weapon and the Sentinel, washing out over the grass fields, enveloping everything in the area, blocking out all light. Nothing emerged. Gradually the black smoke began to dissipate and nothing was left, save a wide cone cleaved into the soil. The very atoms had been broken down on molecular level, disintegrated, vaporised, simply ceasing to exist. The Sentinel was no more.
