Sins of the Past (10/12)

Ryonir felt like his head was being pounded on by two ogres as they rode the elevator back down into the ground floor of the archive tower, the female elf once more apologizing that they didn't find the information they were looking for as they walked out back into the streets. "So the idea of getting another dragon to ally with us didn't work," Zefrit attempted to say optimistically. "We weren't even sure if there was going to be another one up there in the first place, and... I don't know, maybe we can somehow use this to our advantage?"
"I'm not sure how knowing that our prey killed a gold dragon that was powerful in his own right will help," Samiel replied, stopping when he saw the dragon knight putting one hand against his head while the other was bracing him against a wall. "Are you alright? You're not about to have one of those visions where you pass out again, are you?"
"I don't think so..." Ryonir replied as he rubbed his temples while he looked down at the ground. "At this point I kind of do, maybe I could figure out why none of this is making any sense. I clearly heard Xralix talking with another dragon and they definitely weren't fighting, but if that was true then why did Jalru attempt to ambush him in the mountains after coming back from his last rampage and why was it that he was the one killed?"
As the others continued to speculate the questions that the elf had stated were just a few of the ones that were swirling around in his head. Was it possible that he was being lied to or manipulated through those visions? It made sense for the ones where he actively talked to the dread dragon, but the ones where he was talking to the other dragon it felt more like a vision... or maybe a memory if the other dragon in question is dead. But even if he did have answers to all the questions he had it still didn't change the fact that they were about to climb a mountain to face a dragon and the only thing they had going for them is the possibility that he was somehow sealed up in his cave.
With no more reason to stick around in the capital city they immediately looked for a boat to carry them down the river that ran along the Frostward Vale, hoping to make up some time they lost waiting for the lorekeeper to give them the bad news. As they began their quest once more there was one other thing that he was missing and didn't even realize until he had almost booked passage for four instead of three. It was strange and a little disheartening to not travel the final leg of this journey with Flynn, but by this point he was probably well on his way back to the border town if he decided to get a horse. For the remaining three it was a trade boat that made regular runs up and down the river, which came for them the next morning with the three gathering up their supplies and setting off to the lair of the one they called the black death.
Though the river was faster than walking it was still going to take a few days for them to reach their destination; even with the use of enchantment magic that was used to not only get downriver faster but also be able to travel back up against the current. For the most part Ryonir stayed in his room, continuing to work things out that had been told to him by the lorekeeper. "Hey, Ryonir," a voice called out as he heard a knock at the door, the elf looking up from the scroll he had been reading to see Zefrit standing there. "Samiel said that he hasn't seen you grab food since we disembarked and figured that you could use a break."
"Yeah, I suppose I could," Ryonir replied, the silver dragon sucking in his chest so he could fit through the door before reaching back and dragging the bucket with the food he had gathered inside. "Did you know that there's a common mistake in translations from draconic to elven, the symbol for Ra being almost identical to the one for Ar since together they made the word Raar, which is sometimes used instead of the word roar that they're often switched around?"
"I see..." the silver dragon said as he put the food down and tried to serve the elf some. "Brushing up on your draconic to send Xralix a letter and didn't want him to be offended?"
"No... not at all..." Ryonir replied, letting out the tiniest of chuckles. "How's your time down in the cargo hold? Other animals aren't bothering you, are they?"
"No animals down there too bother me," Zefrit informed the elf. "I guess it's mostly crops and textiles on the way down, animals and metal goods on the way back. Guess I should count myself lucky, though it's a bit lonely down there."
"It's only for another day or so," Ryonir responded. "With not having to camp we're going to be at the spot where we can climb up the mountains and get to the lair of the dread dragon, so I suppose we really should be relaxing while we can. Not looking forward to climbing up a mountain and fighting a giant dragon."
Suddenly the silver dragon got quiet, looking down at the food he had brought for himself so forlornly that it prompted the elf to ask what was wrong. "It's just... in a few days it might all be over," Zefrit stated, sniffling slightly. "You, me, Samiel... in a few days we all end up just like Jalru, another few notches on this dragon's wall."
Though Ryonir had not been trying to think about it himself he knew that there was a strong possibility that there was no advantage waiting for them up those mountains and they were just climbing up to get killed by a dragon. It seemed like everything had a note of finality to it, wondering if this was the last time he was going to sleep in a bed, the last time he would read a book... the last time he would be able to talk to Zefrit. Even though he had found out about the tooth a few days ago he hadn't told the silver dragon about it, his focus completely centered on the dragon waiting for him in the Frostward Vale. But as he was reminded that this would be quite possibly the last few moments of peace they might have he stood up with a suddenness that startled the other male before telling him to follow.
It was night out and the only ones that were currently awake was the night watch and navigator, making sure they didn't crash and that there weren't any opportunistic bandits thinking they might be an easy target. That made it easy for the two to sneak down into the cargo hold, using the loading area so that Zefrit could fit through as they made their way below deck. While it wasn't a big ship being on the river it was large enough that they felt completely alone among the stacks of produce and grain waiting to be delivered, which was exactly how he wanted it. During their journey down Zefrit had asked Ryonir several times what they were doing, now the elf finally decided to reveal it as he pulled out a small box and took the necklace out of it.
"I don't want to be killed by a dragon and us not having finished what we started," Ryonir said as he slowly put the silver chain around his neck, letting the tooth dangle against his chest before starting to pull off his clothes. "I had found out that this was a dragon's tooth and that was the reason for the changes, and though I know this means I would have to wait a few more weeks to revert I'm not sure if we're even going to have a few more days. I want this to mean something Zefrit, even if it's the last thing we do together."
"Oh... Ryonir..." Zefrit said as he watched the elf get naked, his eyes widening slightly as he saw the patches of black scales that were still on his chest and legs. "Have you been messing around with dragon magic?! Don't you know that's how you become a kobold!?"
"What!?" Ryonir replied, panicking as he grabbed the necklace and held it away from him. "I didn't think that was really a thing!"
"It isn't," Zefrit said, giggling as the elf looked between him and the necklace a few times before sighing and dropping it back down. "Samiel told me everything including your little initiation ceremony to become his alpha because he said you were feeling bad and that I should know it meant nothing. Had I known it was that easy I would have asked you to be my alpha instead."
Ryonir found himself breathing a sigh of relief as he ran his hands through his hair, though he could already feel the strands starting to lengthen as his arousal began to build. "Well all you had to do was ask," the elf said as he finished disrobing and faced away from the silver dragon, revealing that the black scales had already started to spread over his lower back as the nub of a tail began to form. "The reason I wanted to make sure that I was a dragon for you though is because I had my fun the last time were together, I want to give you what you gave me this time."
"Oh... oh my..." Zefrit stated, his tail thumping hard against the bottom of the boat as he looked at those growing cheeks, his own lust clearly starting to grow as he began to approach. "You're letting yourself become a dragon just so that I can take you? I don't know what to say..."
"You could tell me to bend over," Ryonir replied, feeling those needy sensations starting to rise. "Or are you just going to stand there and watch me?"
Zefrit didn't not have to be given the offer twice as he quickly closed the gap between them, Ryonir feeling something almost immediately push into him that caused him to gasp. It wasn't the dragon's cock, he was still too small for it and at this stage possibly ripped him in half, but as he felt it wiggling and squirming around inside of him he realized it was Zefrit's tongue instead. This caused a smile to form on the growing muzzle of his face... even when offering himself to him his little dragon had his needs in mind. He also knew that part of it was waiting until he was big enough to handle the real thing as Zefrit's forepaw clumsily rubbed against his growing cock while continuing to stimulate his insides.
After about a minute he felt his rear become empty once more, his new tail wagging lazily in the air from the lack of stimulation before he felt it get pushed to the side and a heavy paw get placed on his back. The weight caused him to fall down on all fours, though he was heading that way anyway as his fingers stretched with cracks and pops, the scales halfway covering his body as his shoulders shifted into their quadrupedal stance. Initially Ryonir hadn't been sure about being the one receiving, especially after how good it felt to completely dominate that werewolf, but there was something about having Zefrit sliding on top of him with his silver scaled thighs rubbing against his rear that felt very nice. It was like trying a new food that you weren't sure you were going to like, except for the transforming elf it was getting a thick dragon cock shoved inside him and being nearly blinded by the pleasure that came from it.
As Ryonir continued to grow bigger he was soon getting to the point where he was the same size as the other dragon, his body still shifting and popping as the last vestiges of his elven nature were subsumed by the draconic magic coursing through him. He could definitely get used to this, the elf thought to himself as Zefrit started to buck inside him, taking the heavy, throbbing rod rubbing against his insides and thrusting in and out to get even more of those blissful sensations out of it. Dragons did seem to have it made, the dragon knight thought idly as he basked in his own lust, they had wings, powerful bodies, gorgeous cocks... he was so lost in his thoughts he hadn't even realized that his size had surpassed Zefrit to the point where the forepaws he was using to brace himself were getting lifted off of the floor.
"Uh, Ryonir..." the silver dragon said as he could hear the boat creaking under their rutting bodies. "I think we might be getting over the capacity of this boat."
"Let it sink..." Ryonir replied with a smirk, then a groan as he bucked back and got himself hilted by the smaller dragon. "You can ride me all the way down! Just keep thrusting into me and don't you dare stop..."
Ryonir let out a growl of pure contentment as he spread his paws to help brace himself as the silver dragon behind him doubled his efforts, hearing the instincts taking over for the other male as well and feeling the blissful sensation of being pounded into. It felt so good... his own cock was pulsating wildly and practically drooling as the two dragons continued to mate. This... this was a passionate breeding, Ryonir thought as he pushed his chest down and got lower so the other male could have better access, feeling the pressure of Zefrit's paws on his elongated neck as thrusts came harder, and harder, and faster...
Though the two hadn't thought about how loud they were going to be, both Zefrit and Ryonir had enough sense left in their lust-filled heads to attempt to muffle themselves as they roared in climax, which quickly was followed by a loud crack as Ryonir felt his left back paw sink in slightly. The reality of what they had done quickly dawned on them and in a frantic bid to get the necklace off Ryonir felt the clawed paw of the dragon behind him smack at the back of his neck. While that didn't get it off of him it did cause his head to go up sharply, and with him not realizing just how big he had grown he found himself smashing his head against the top brace of the ceiling before crumpling to the ground in a heap...
Ryonir felt like he was spinning in darkness for quite a while until it finally stopped, and when he was finally able to open them again he found himself in a familiar place as the winds howling outside of the cave and he felt the presence of a massive shape next to him. Unlike the last few times he could see the dragon clearly, the dread dragon Xralix seemingly waiting for something as he stared out into the abyss. At first he thought it might be him, but it wasn't long before he was proven wrong as another shape came in from the darkness before landing. The elf gasped as he realized that it was a gold dragon as it shook his body of the snow that had been falling outside, Jalru...
"You wouldn't have to fly in the snow if you just didn't make it snow when you came here," Xralix said as he approached, the elf watching in wide-eyed fascination.
"Snow means no visibility and no prying eyes seeing a dragon fly to another dragon's lair... unless you're the one that summoned it in the first place," Jarlu replied as he moved forward, nuzzling the black dragon against the neck and noting the silver chain around it. "Oh! You're wearing my gift!"
"Of course," Xralix replied. "You don't think I understand what a gift means?"
"I think that I remember when you knocked that tooth out of my head in the first place," Jalru said with a chuckle. "It was the first time we fought after I had settled myself here in the Frostward Vale. I was scouting the area and happened upon your cave, and before I could even get inside you came barging out and tail whipped me so hard you almost knocked me off my feet. Do you remember what I said to you after I spit that tooth out right in front of you?"
"You said that the first one was free," Xralix said with a chuckle. "The next one was going to cost you."
The two laughed for a bit, then settled further into the cave. With his vision so clear he could see the look of anxiety on the gold dragon's face, like there was something weighing deeply on him. "How are the urges today?" Jalru asked. "When I flew overhead I saw you on the plateau watching the boats go by, staring at them like... prey..."
"It was... not the best day," Xralix replied. "You know it's hard... these urges get so strong, wanting to go out there and just... see the world burn, watch the suffering of others. I still don't even feel bad about thinking about it, the only reason I don't go out there is, well... you know..."
"A promise is a promise," Jalru stated, tapping the black dragon on the nose. "I believe you can change, you've already gone so long without going out there rampaging and destroying everything. I'm just... so happy that you're trying to do this for me, though I can tell you still haven't dismissed those kobolds of yours."
The two dragons cuddled together as the black scaled creature chuckled. "You can't deprive me of every pleasure in life," Xralix replied. "They're good for what they do, though I can tell that the schemers aren't too happy about me pulling back on their infiltration of the cities."
"I think they are a bad influence," Jalru said as he rubbed a paw against the belly of the other dragon. "Plus dragons don't need such frivolities, all we really need is each other."
"I might need a little more than that," Xralix stated. "And if we're going to keep sneaking around and being apart from one another I have to find something to do."
"Well you already know my opinion on the matter," Jalru said with a contented sigh. "Don't let that stop you though, you deserve to find your own happiness..."
Ryonir awoke with a gasp as he felt something cold and wet hit him in the face, sputtering as he nearly rolled off the bed and fell to the floor. "See, I told you," Zefrit said to Samiel as they stood over him. "Works every time."
"What happened?" Ryonir asked as he looked down at himself, finding that he was back to his elf form... save for the scales that appeared on the back of his hands and the small claws that had formed from his finger nails, which went straight to the back of his head as he felt a throbbing pain. "Ow..."
"Be glad that's all that's hurting," Samiel said as he crossed his arms. "The crew thought that there was a dragon attack and when they found you two in the hold you had almost busted right through the bottom. Had Zefrit not gotten the necklace off of you this whole ship and yourself would probably be at the bottom of the river right now."
"Oh wow, were we really that rowdy down there?" Ryonir asked, the silver dragon and the werewolf both nodding before the elf waved his hand dismissively. "Never mind that, I think I put the story together... and if I'm right we need to get off this boat right now after checking a map."
"Now?" Zefrit repeated as the elf slowly got up and walked to the door, then walked back when he realized he was completely naked. "But we're still at least a day away from where we can start climbing up to find the dread dragon."
"Exactly," the elf said as he got dressed, an almost manic look in his eyes as he put on his armor as quickly as he could. "I think that we've been worked against since the start of this, maybe even before that. If my theory is right we need to get off this boat and start climbing up the Frostward Vale right now, if not sooner."
Just as Ryonir was about to leave the room he turned around and saw the looks of confusion on both his companion's faces, holding up a hand to calm himself as he ran the other one through his hair. "Sorry, I know this might not be making much sense right now," Ryonir apologized, looking at them both with sincerity. "But I just had a vision and it led me to a hunch that I think is right, and if my hunch is right that means that I know what to do and where to go. All I can ask you guys to do is trust me at the moment and I'll try to explain everything to you as best I can while we climb..."
Though the boat captain and crew were not happy with having to stop their trip they were pleased to see the dragon and elf that nearly sank them get off far before their destination, the three of them taking their gear and starting the long climb up. At first they were surrounded by forests that bordered the mountains of the Frostward Vale, but the higher they went the more exposed they got. Even with the cold weather gear they got everyone was shivering even as they traveled during the day, Samiel even transforming into a werewolf while still keeping his overcoat in an attempt to keep warm. But their determination to make it to their destination kept them going, and on the dawn of the third day they walked over the snow-covered ridge to find the entrance to a deep crevice that went down into the mountain.
"Are you sure that you want to do this alone?" Zefrit asked as they stood there, the dragon helping the other two brace against the howling wind that swept around them. "We could come in behind you..."
"No, I have to do this alone," Ryonir affirmed, flexing his frigid fingers and feeling his weapons ready to be called upon at a moment's notice. "This is my fight... you two go back down to that little ravine where we set up camp and try to get another fire started, if I need you, well, you'll probably hear me screaming from quite a distance."
Samiel was the first to go up to him, hugging him tightly in his werewolf form. "Please honor us with your return alpha," he said. "I do not wish to have to bury one so soon after another."
Ryonir thanked the werewolf and took a second to catch his breath before Zefrit came up after. "You know that he's definitely expecting you, right?" the silver dragon stated, Ryonir nodding slightly. "Well, can't say that I didn't warn you then. Give him hell Ryonir, we'll be waiting for you when you return."
The elf watched as his two companions turned and left, heading back over the plateau and around the cliff so they could start back down the mountain. As the dragon knight watched them disappear he wished that he could ask for their help, but after what he saw and figured out he knew it would be better to confront his enemy alone. He didn't stand there long as he began to feel his breath freezing in his throat and turned back around to head into the entrance to the cave. The snow crunching underneath his boots was like the sound of a thousand alarm bells, but as his dragon said he was likely already expected...
Eventually he made his way inside the cave and let out a small breath of relief as he found himself out of the elements, and as he got further in he found it was even warmer to the point he could take off the outer layer of clothing that had been protecting him from the cold. He expected nothing less from the lair of a dragon, feeling the smooth stone underneath his fingers as he moved further in. As he rounded a corner he could hear the crackling of a fire and manifested his gauntlets before slowly squeezed his palms to have the blades on his gauntlets extend.
"I was wondering if you were going to actually show up here," a voice suddenly echoed in the cavern, the elf pausing and getting into an attack stance as he immediately recognized it. "Part of me had been hoping that you would... another part of me hoping that you wouldn't. At least then I wouldn't be completely disappointed in your actions."
"I guess that means that we've both been disappointed in the actions of the other," Ryonir shouted back, continuing to round the side of the cavern until the fire came into view, flames dancing over logs in what appeared to be a makeshift fireplace carved out of the stone. There was no dragon sitting there waiting to pounce on him, though he hadn't expected there to be, but instead a single overstuffed armchair sat with its back to him. "So how is this going to end, Flynn?"
Ryonir watched as a slender hand took a saucer and cup and put it on a slab of stone acting on a table as he could hear the one sitting in the chair standing up. "That, my friend..." there was a pause as the elf turned and looked at Ryonir, a small, sad smile on his face. "...is entirely up to you."
