#18 of All They Knew

For Skye and Ruki's last day, they go out once last time.

Skye woke up early the following morning, her face still buried in Ruki's fur. "Mh…" She slightly pulled away to give herself more room to breathe but kept her nose in it, nuzzling his neck and giving it loving kisses. "I love you, Ruki." Skye hugged his body while he slept, his stomach rising with every breath.

She pondered the day prior—the one spent with Aaron. He was the kindest boy she'd met so far. That said something considering she was eighteen, but she hadn't been around boys in 'this' sense at the same time.

It didn't matter, though. She was traveling to her region overseas tomorrow. It would be best that she kept everything concealed for their sake.

Skye was up and dressed for the day in the next five minutes. She wore a comfortable tee and jeans after the extravagant outfit she'd worn yesterday. She then went to the restroom, as sore as ever after hours of walking and sex last night.

She kept her ponytatail up and gazed at herself in the restroom mirror. "What's he like about you, anyway? If he does like you..." She eyed her face, slim nose, and her full blue eyes. She'd had male friends in Alola, but they rarely, if ever, complimented her. It made sense because she had always acted distant. Her parents never approved of her dating before eighteen.

She never got to experience a late-night girl's outing and was sometimes teased by her group for her restrictions, especially because she had to be home after school daily. It was all in good fun, but as everyone aged, Skye's friends left her in the dust.

Parenting generally wasn't restrictive in Alolan culture. Unlike Skye's angsty experience, teenhood was generally more relaxed and carefree. Parents let go more and allowed their children to explore their community; however, her parents weren't from Alola, so her friends never quite understood how different her experience was.

She was rarely allowed to leave Hau'oli strips' limits, whether to traverse the routes or business district even after turning sixteen. They had barely wanted her to travel to Sinnoh, but she'd stood her ground and convinced them that she deserved it. Her mother had caved first, and it took a couple of days for her father to agree, which took extra convincing from her mother.

Skye brushed her teeth, wiped away the concealer she'd forgotten to remove again, left the restroom while leaning up on her toes to tense her legs, and saw Ruki sitting while grooming one of his tails. At least she had her ninetales. She'd be a depressed wreck otherwise.

"Hey," she said with an accompanying grin. She sat on the bed's edge on her knees and patted the spot in front of her.

He stood and walked over, sitting where she directed. He'd woken up minutes ago and kept busy while waiting for her. His body was still sore, but he didn't have to move much last night, so Ruki probably didn't feel as sore as Skye did.

"You did so well last night, baby. You can really please a girl, can't you?" She giggled and set her hand on the back of his neck, leaning in to kiss his head and rub noses.

He tilted his head into her kiss and returned her nuzzle, hot-faced from her words with at least a hint of smug pride in his eyes.

"We should finish what we have left from Seven Stars if it's still any good. I'm not sure where we'll go, either, but we leave tomorrow. We have to do something." Skye perked and spoke with abrupt enthusiasm. "Ooh, what about the pool in the courtyard? We haven't even checked that out." It would also soothe some of the soreness in her legs and lower back.

"Nine!" He remembered seeing it yesterday before they'd left for Floaroma. He missed swimming already and had a special date planned with Big Wave Beach when they got back. It wasn't as friendly as Hau'oli's, and Skye had never let him swim in its waters out of fear he'd get taken by the waves.

To be fair, they were three times as big compared to Hau'oli's, but now that he was a ninetales, he'd give those waves a battle if they tried pulling him out.

"Let me see if I packed my suit." She scooted off the bed to search her backpack, finding her folded swimsuit in moments. It was the last piece of clothing unworn by her during this trip. Skye unfolded and held it in front of her.

"Been a while since I've worn this." It was a one-piece covering her torso and cutting off her upper thighs. Each side of the tight suit was white and had medium-sized holes running up its sides until reaching the chest area to reveal more skin. It resembled netting. "Be back." Skye took it into the bathroom.

Ruki got down from the bed and looked out the window at the vacant courtyard, other suites, and a clear sky. A sunny day awaited, and that never ceased to excite him.

"Readyy," she sang, exiting the restroom while fitting her suit's shoulder straps and pulling the suit down. It fit her sides with slight tightness. "Don't know if I'm still skinny enough to rock this..."

Ruki thought she looked great in it.

Skye pulled their packaged meal from the fridge and shared with Ruki after microwaving it, tossing what remained. After that, she put on her flip-flops and left the suite with him at a quarter to nine. The sun wouldn't be out completely for another few hours, but the air was more or less warm enough to enter a pool with the occasional breeze throwing it off.

They walked up the courtyard's stairs past some trainers leaving Seven Stars and took a left at the top. A shallow body of water surrounded by a grassy field sat before them. Beyond it and down another flight of stairs were bushy trees and tall grass.

Skye went to the water and could smell the chlorine already. The grass turned to smooth stone terrain lining the pool's outer area, and a chair was underneath an umbrella by the poolside.

Ruki stood next to the chair as Skye sat on it. No one was around this early, so they'd likely have a private pool for an hour or so.

"We should have come here days ago. It's like right outside. Why don't you go test the water?"

He glanced at her, then shifted his gaze to the placid water rippling against mild gusts. According to the numbering on its walls, it was four feet deep, but Ruki knew how to keep himself afloat, so that didn't scare him.

He walked to the pool corner by its stairs, dipping his paw into the water and onto the first step.

"How is it? Warm enough to handle?"

"Nni..." Well, it was for him. He stared back at her.

"I'm gonna jump in anyway." Skye kicked her flip-flops off and walked to Ruki, crouching beside him. "Gonna join me?"

He nuzzled her thigh with his cheek and ended with a nod.

"Okay, here goes…" She went and stood at the pool's edge by the center. She held her nose and closed her eyes, exhaled, took in a substantial amount of air and held it, then jumped.

The morning air wooshed over her skin while she was in the air; a corresponding splash sloshed and stirred the water as the pool consumed her. Skye tensed while adapting to the abrupt and frigid change in temperature, blowing bubbles through her mouth and staying on the pool's floor on her stomach while clearing her mind. She relaxed under the water until it got warm enough for her to move comfortably.

She turned onto her back, slightly opening her eyes in time to see Ruki enter the water from the steps. She grinned, pushing herself up and standing above the water while catching her breath. She rubbed her eyes. "Here, Ruki," Skye said once she gathered her composure, raising her arms.

Fortunately, her watch was waterproof because she'd totally forgotten that she had it on.

Ruki paddled to her while splashing with his paws, his expression wearing pure focus.

She took his forepaws into her hands when he reached her, keeping him afloat and leaning to kiss him on his nose. "Who's my best swimmer?" she baby-talked him, giggling.

Ruki looked up at her and swayed his afloat tails as she spoke, though it was barely noticeable since they were in the water. He couldn't swim like a primarina, but he did his best for a ninetales.

"I don't know if I can swim after yesterday. I'll use this as therapy instead." Her calves and thighs needed it. Skye went to the wall and rested her back against it, bringing Ruki by his paws. "You can swim if you'd like. Want me to let you go?"

He shook his head. He already spent most of his time with Skye but wanted to be even closer to her during this trip.

"We'll sit here for a bit, but I want you to practice swimming in this super safe pool in your new form before doing it at a beach. Can't have you getting swept out." She tucked him beside her with her left arm around his side, swaying the water in a smooth circle with her free hand and watching it roil and ripple. "Hey, Ruki?" She looked at him, shivering against another passing breeze.

He looked up and met her eyes, although the angle was awkward.

"You've been enjoying this trip, right? I have a lot, but how about my boy?" Skye would assume so after all of the new activities they'd done, and she'd tried taking him to various restaurants since eating was a hobby of his.

"Nine!"

She brought her free hand to rub his head. "Good, but I want to know your favorite part so far too." Skye put her hand in front of his face in a fist. "Dining." She put up her index finger and applied the following to her other four: "exploring, battling, cooking... or our sex." Skye ended with her thumb. She almost didn't want to add that last fact. It should have been something swept under the rug, but she was too curious all the same. "Just... nudge one."

Ruki eyed his options, glancing up at her before setting his eyes on her hand. Dining was a given, as was exploring, but they weren't special since they did both in Alola often. The cooking was fun, but it had mostly been a watch-and-eat for Ruki.

However, the battle had given him self-confidence and allowed him to prove his strength to his owner, and their mating, well—

He leaned in and nudged her thumb, ending with a lick.

Skye bit her lip under a broad grin, almost ear to ear. "Me too, baby." She blinked, her grin then falling. "Ruki, but, can I ask how you felt during it? Before we leave it in the dust..."

"Nine?" He again looked up.

"Like, uhm." She could feel her cheeks redden. "I felt closer than ever with you in every way, and I know we aren't the same species, but... I still felt so connected. Was it just me?"

Ruki shook his head faster than ever. Their nights felt like the pinnacle of their bond. When they'd climaxed together, he assumed Skye felt similar sensations as him. Sharing that and every moment leading to it with her was something he'd never trade.

"My gosh..." What a wonderful mess. She wiped the dampness forming under her eyes.

Skye looked ahead and saw other people and pokémon populate the courtyard as the sun rose. She looked ahead at the mini forest, its vegetation rustling against the air. Some bidoof and beautifly were present too.

Her mind drifting to their trip, Sinnoh was the perfect escape to a more modernized and bustling take on life overall. She wasn't sure which region from the two she'd experienced she preferred, but being able to experience both had been extraordinary.

"You want to get out soon, Ruk'? It's been a while." It neared 10 a.m., and they hadn't yet left the pool. Skye had walked him across the water and watched him swim wall to wall repeatedly throughout the hour. His fastest time was fifteen seconds, which she had commended him for.

Ruki nodded, weary from his paddling session and being under the sun for an extended period. He'd had fun, though, and was now more familiar with swimming in his new form. He really hoped it'd lead to her allowing him to swim at Big Wave. They'd never gone in, but Ruki had always wanted to experience such wild waters instead of watching others surf from the sidelines.

"Me too. Back to land." Skye walked to the steps and released Ruki after he caught his footing, stiffening as a breeze blew by. Luckily, the sun was almost at its peak.

He exited and stood above the stairs, shaking out his fur and droopy tails.

"Ah, Ruki!" Skye shielded her face while countless particles of water flew off his fur.

He stopped and eyed her. His intention wasn't to wet her. He only wanted to dry his soaked and heavy coat. "Nn..." His eyes exuded worry.

She giggled, stepping out after him and patting his head. "You're finee. I just wasn't expecting it." She walked to the chair and sat on it to dry off with Ruki sitting beside her. "I don't want to go back inside. It feels wrong when we leave so soon." Skye looked where their suite was and happened to see Aaron exiting. She had no way to grab his attention, or else she'd wave.

That was until he glanced behind him to her luck, and Skye took that second to go through with her friendly gesture and saw him return it. "Aw, I should hail him over," she thought aloud. Before he turned around, Skye did just that, beckoning him with her hand.

This would be the last time they'd talk, as she and Ruki would leave tomorrow afternoon.

Ruki watched him walk up the flight of stairs and made a conscious effort not to shake since the urge was powerful.

"Skye, Ruki," he greeted upon arriving. His eyes scanned her swimsuit and quivering legs briefly.

"Hey, Aaron. Where's Sylmi?" She grinned.

"Still asleep. I just came out for some quiet."

"Oh, did I interrupt your walk?"

"No, no, not at all. I'd rather talk to you. Were you two swimming?"

Skye gave the same shy, littenish smile she'd worn yesterday. "Mhm, just something calmer to do before we leave tomorrow since the week was massive. I'll miss what little I got to see of this region."

"I'm glad you love it as much as I do. You lucked out with it on your first time. Ready to go home?"

"Of course." Skye placed her hand on the back of Ruki's neck. "It'll feel great to be back around what I know. When do you leave?"

"We're here for another week. I'm still determining where I want to go next, but nowhere Sylmi and I have gone. I was thinking about Kanto, but we could also tour one of the smaller regions like Orre. They don't get enough attention."

"I don't think I'll travel for a while. Once was a lot for me; I have to figure things out." Skye shook. "I should go and change… but I'll come back out afterward. Give me like five." She put on her flip-flops and tapped Ruki's back.

"Sure. I'll wait by my suite." Aaron watched her and Ruki walk down the stairs to theirs. He followed far behind and leaned against the wall of his suite.

Skye pulled her swimsuit off, wrung it out, then laid it across the bathtub's rim to dry, replacing it with the same tee and jeans she'd had on this morning. She let her hair fall and neatened it in the mirror before walking back into the room, seeing a trembling Ruki sitting on the floor and giving her his frozen eyes. "Let's get you under the covers. Come lie down." She patted the bed and leaned over to pull the blanket.

Ruki hopped up, walking to the bed's center and lying on his side while Skye drew the cover over his body. He looked up at her pretty grin as she leaned to kiss him between the ears while tucking him in.

"I'll be back. Stay warm." She turned on the heater for him, slipped her flip-flops back on, and headed out the door.

Aaron suppressed a grin upon seeing her.

She passed him and slowed her pace. "You wanna walk?"

"Yeah, let's walk." He hurried to keep beside her.

"I think I've had enough walking to last me a while, honestly. I just want to see Route 213's beach. I blame Alola for that." While conversing, they went across the courtyard and through the lobby, arriving at the beach where she had recently taken Ruki to watch the sunset.

They strolled close enough to be near the shore but not so much as to be touched by its waves. Two pre-teens played catch in the water while their family sat on the sand.

Skye slipped off her flip-flops, crossing her legs and sitting.

Aaron sat beside her; she broke the ambient silence after they settled.

"So, who do you have back home?" She watched the waves wash up on shore underneath an azure sky dotted with clouds.

"Uh, my mom, brother who's living away at university, and two friends. I'm happy with just a few important people in my life since I'm usually busy," he replied. "How about you?" Aaron looked over.

"My mother and father. No friends right now. I didn't hold onto any. My only relatively close one lives here." Skye glanced at him. "Ruki keeps me great company, but it'd be nice to have a girlfriend in Alola."

"Yeah, so cherish once you have, right?"

"Right, cherish once you have." She sifted her fingers through the sand. "And what's going on in life right now?"

"I just started at my local college, part-time for now, since I'm trying to find a better job than the one I have on the side to help mom. My next semester starts soon after I get back."

"One more question." She giggled. "What's your major? I have no idea what I want to do yet."

"Business right now."

"Awesome. It's nice you're finding yourself and setting a path so quickly. I'm struggling here."

"I don't think it's something you should rush. Let it come to you so you don't think you know what you want until it hits you, you know? Best advice my mom taught me."

Skye nodded. "I like moving at life's pace anyway. Rushing is super stressy... We'll see, and you said you're from Johto, right? What are you doing in Kalos?"

"Two years in so far. Me and my mom were looking for a region to move to and get a break from Johto. Society was calm after the war for a month or so, but its effects started deteriorating the economy faster than anyone could keep up with. Our currency declined over time, and the Accord eventually had to retreat from most regions once under their control."

"I didn't know it got that bad over there. What made you choose Kalos?"

"We were looking for homes and apartments to rent in all SNDA-affiliated regions before the collapse. Kalos fit our budget while being the most appealing option. Safe region too."

"I'm glad you're out of there, then. Would you ever go back? Like, do you ever miss it?"

"I miss everything I grew up around, but I don't think I'd be able to return right now. The future's too uncertain, but it looks bright for the SNDA. It has been a great union so far. I guess we just have to see what it does with its new power and influence." He nodded toward her. "You were born in Alola, right?"

"Mhm, I was, so I'm Alolan. My parents, no. They're Accordian. They moved to Alola for business opportunity and found success there."

"Well, smart." He grinned. "What business if I can ask?"

"It's called Pokare. It's a popular pokécare store. It's only in Alola for now."

"I've never heard of it, but I'm curious now, so I'll look into it. Think you'll follow in their steps?"

She sighed. "I don't know if I wanna do anything huge. I just like enjoying life, but... I don't know."

He shrugged. "Nothing wrong with that. There's no right way, I'd say, and me and Sylmi have done a lot of enjoying the world we're in."

"Which I think is so great." She grinned warmly. "A part of me wants to travel more. I feel like I know nothing after being here."

"It's worth it. I'll say that much."
