#1 of Life of a Kami

This is the first of an ongoing series about the big lion known as Pete, who goes by the handle StupidGit. Please comment, it will help me write future stories about my wonderful mate!

Journal of Arribous Nightsnow-

"I have to admit, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to finally sit down and write it all down. My mate most likely won't write his own memoirs, so I feel it's my scholarly duty to make sure that they are recorded. You see, he is no normal lion. He is what's called a kami. In all my years of study and research, I have encountered many races of supernatural creatures, but I have never found one so intriguing as the kami. In Japanese, a 'kami' is a god, or some other amazingly powerful creature, and this is not far from the mark....ah, this preface is rambling, as usual with me...my report on the life of my mate, Pete, and the description of the kami race, follows."

The life cycle of a kami does not begin with biological parents. Interestingly, they have none. What actually creates the kami's physical body remains a mystery, but they begin life as a small child, only about a year of age. If left alone, it is likely they will find their own means of survival, and stay away from civilized society. Therefore, most kami come and go without documentation, or society's knowledge of their passing. Pete was different. He was 'born' in what is known as Japan, which luckily happened to be aware of not only what a kami was, but what they were capable of. But, because of this, some of the country sought to isolate the kami because of their seemingly unfair gifts. The Buddhist monks of the country made it a point to keep the young kami and their abilities away from the population when they can, to avoid persecution from the oft-jealous citizens, and educate them for their safety in the country.

So, it was only natural that the little lion cub suddenly appearing outside their village aroused the local monks' curiosity. Pete was found outside of the temple on a small farm, under a peach tree. He wouldn't react to the various monks until one smiled and referred to the small cub gnawing on a peach as "piichi shishi," or peach-lion because "he surely must taste like a peach, eating that entire fruit," he jested. The little lion giggled at the rhyme and pawed at that monk, who took him back to the monk's home. The cub was adopted by the order, as they had done for many kami in their years of quiet prayer and meditation.

As he grew up, he was just referred to as Piichi. When he started going through puberty, he wanted a more manly name of his own. Not long after, a foreigner mistook his name as Petey, because "Piichi" and "Petey" can be written the same way in the phonetic alphabet of Japanese, katakana. The foreigner told him that "Petey" came from the English name "Peter", which meant rock. Upon learning the manly background of this name, he told the everyone he came across his new name: Petey, or Pete for short.

Despite being raised and taught in a Buddhist temple, Pete had a relatively normal childhood. He grew up very quickly, but this was to be expected from a kami. He was the size of a normal adult by the time he was fifteen, but he kept growing in size for a few years after that, ending up being quite the big lion. He learned many styles of martial arts from the monks, including aikido, judo, and many of the techniques and strategies of ninjutsu. Being a lion, he was perfectly suited to the stalking and silent sneaking required, and mastered the art in a short time. The lion was a very capable fighter indeed, though thanks to the teachings of the monks he would not need to use his deadly art. Because of all this cardio-intensive activities, he was lean and toned, but his muscle-structure was not very large.

Over the course of his life, Pete was told about what he was, a luxury most kami are not granted. This was probably the reason the order took him in in the first place, to educate him. The order helped him adjust, and learn about his power as a kami, and attempt to teach him moderation.("More on that later...")

At the age of eighteen, he left the company of the monks to lead his own life, as all kami raised in their care must do. Even though he had grown up there, he was made to know that a creature such as a kami definitely does not belong living the quiet, introspective life of a monk, and that he must make his own way when he was grown. He moved many days away from the monastery, wandering about the country learning about his abilities through a period as a sumo wrestler, among other things, and eventually built a home for himself atop a plateau. He would later find his mate for the first time, wounded and laying in a ditch by the side of the path to the top of the plateau. The rest of that story is history...("Gah! I'm getting sidetracked again! Focus, Arribous...Now, onto the physical nature of the kami...")

Kami come in both sexes, though the vast majority are male. In Japan, males are known as 'boudai' ('enormous or bulky') kami. They are large and powerful no matter what their species, and exude many secondary sex characteristics, such as thicker, darker fur under their arms, across their chest, and in their pubic area. Females are known as 'hosoi' ('slender') kami. They are slight and petite, though they are quite strong despite their appearance. The species of a kami seems to be chosen at random, as there are known cases of skunks, foxes, lions, tigers, and bears as kami.

Kami have a natural magical power, which they channel from their own soul, unlike most magic. Whereas a wizard ("Including yours truly") learns his spells from a spellbook and intensive study and training, kami come by it naturally, and master it with practice. However, what kinds of magic can be performed depend on the sex of the kami. A female's magic pertains to nurturing and protection, while a male's magic leans toward propagation and growth. Because this essay is about the male lion kami Pete, the male sex of the kami race will be the main focus.

It would appear, based off the magic available to them, that female kami are meant to serve as nurturing figures, while males are designed to spread their seed as much as possible. And therein lies the way in which kami increase their power. It is this author's personal experience that more powerful magic will be made available to a kami the better they serve the purpose outlined above.

The manifestations of this are quite different for each sex. Males show physical changes the more power they gain, while females do not. The typical physical changes shown in a male are an increase of size, musculature, and sex organs. The system basically works like this: The more a male kami propagates and spills his seed, the more power he draws from nature, and the larger he becomes, therefore becoming more capable of propagating and spilling more seed. It's a kind of feedback loop, in which there is no cap or cutoff. As far as this author knows, a kami may keep gaining in power indefinitely.

It has also been proven that a male needn't have sex with a female to gain in power either. It has been shown that it is magically possible for offspring to be born from either sex, so it does not matter to nature. The partner needn't be another kami either, any sentient being will do. The only thing that need happen is that the kami spill his seed inside another being. After doing that, the kami will become larger, stronger, more virile, and more magically powerful. These changes are subtle, and a lot of sex must take place for a change to be noticed. It's not as if a kami could rut someone, then gain fifty pounds of brawn overnight. However, the more sex that occurs, the more power that the kami will gain, so its in a kami's interest to have sex as often as possible.

Another way for a male kami to gain power is for it to propagate plants. It is known that a kami's seed, in tandem with a kami's magic, can be used to cause healthy, vibrant plants of large sizes to bloom. In essence, the kami seeds the ground and reproduces with it. Effectively, kami are a sentient, walking extension of nature itself, and all the power it embodies.

In regards to their magic, kami seem to be able to shape and wield it in any way they see fit, with limits. They can heal wounds, nourish and grow plants, protect themselves and others from the elements, and attack enemies with devastating force, just to name a few. In addition to the conscious ways in which kami use their power, they appear to channel it unwittingly as well. The homes of kami are always surrounded by thick vegetative life, and a kami's mate, should he or she take one, always seems to be healthy. In fact, when a male kami increases enough in power, he will unknowingly grow his mate along with him, possibly for the purpose of being able to copulate with the mate still. This growth is not as pronounced as the kami's growth, but it is noticeable by both the kami and the mate.

It is known ("From firsthand experience, mrrr...") that sex with a male kami is an intensely pleasurable event, seeming to surpass sex with a normal male. A kami will always produce a huge amount of seed, and will always have large genitals, so depending on the tastes of the suitor, sex with a kami can be the best sex in a lifetime. However, this is largely subjective.

Beyond that, kami appear to be normal individuals. They have varied tastes and personalities, and come in all species. Just...larger, more sexual, more powerful creatures. Beautiful, radiant, beastly creatures...("Quit staring at him while you're writing, fool! Uhoh, he's looking this way...Damn, he's sexy when he squeezes his ass together as he walks...Mmmmph! And such a wonderful kisser...and...mrr...so aggressive...he's always after my tailhole...but I have to finish this entry...Mffff...careful, stud...I can't write when you're...MRRRRRR! Must...finish...even...when...he's inside...me...!")
