Code Oblivion Chapter 10- A meeting of Brothers

Noah just grumbled to himself as he left the basement of the police station, the nerve of that asshole! Bad enough he tormented him for years! YEARS! Turns out the main reason he did it was because he was gay himself and was afraid to get caught. What kind of cliche tv high school bullshit was that? He didn't think that stuff outside those bullshit highschool drama shows Em was utterly obsessed with for reasons he still couldn't fully fathom. To add to it the bastard KISSED HIM! What on earth was he thinking...and why was his heart fluttering so much? He hated Dawson with his entire being! Didn't he...?

'Damnit Noah, focus! Think about this stuff later when a bunch of insane terrorists aren't trying to destroy your hometown.` He could feel both Em and Dawson's eyes on him. It was obvious they both had a lot of questions. Not that he could truly blame them, a lot had happened since they had all last seen each other. He had changed a lot since then. He wasn't the same boy he was before Eldra and he still wasn't entirely sure that was a good thing or not. 'I wish dad was here, he knew everything...he would know if this was a good thing, right?' It pained him that he would never see the man again. He would have kept going forward before he felt someone grab his arm and he turned around to see it was Emily.

"I'm so glad you're back Noah..." She said, tears dripping down her face as he hugged him close and started sobbing. This instantly made him feel extremely awkward. He had never been good at dealing with a girl's emotions even before this mess. "I was so scared...when I saw what happened on the news...I thought I would never see you again. And Dr. Littlesea...he's gone now as well..." Emily said between sobs as she held him close. "Plus Sammy...they killed him...we would have been killed as well if we hadn't gotten away." Noah froze again at that as his eyes started to water, not Sammy.

"How...did you two get away?" He asked quietly, he was glad they got away...yes, even Dawson but the fact Sammy still died was a bitter pill to swallow.

"We were going there to get some burgers...but after we ordered, it seemed to take an usually long time for us to get our food and I smelt something burning and went to check...I saw Sammy...he was shot in the head and half of his face was laying on the stove..." Dawson said, looking like he would throw up and Noah nearly did himself. "I was about to make a run for it and grab Emily but before I could do anything, I felt a gun to my back. There were two cultists. I made a snap decision to tackle one of them and use the other guy as a shield while the other tried to shoot at me. And then grabbed his gun and held the other man until Em doused him in hot fry oil...but then he activated a bomb he had on him and blew up the diner...we barely got out of it in time." This made Noah wince even more, not only was Sammy dead but the diner itself was destroyed? It was as if fate was doing it's best to destroy all his childhood memories of this place.

"Oh..." Was all he could say, honestly too shocked to say anything else. Though he could feel the anger boil in his chest as he saw the chaos unfolding around him, buildings still on fire around them. Crosstown was supposed to be safe, a tiny peaceful hamlet in the middle of nowhere. He still couldn't understand why they would go out of their way to attack a place like this. 'All I know is that they are going to pay for this... they are going to get what they deserve for attacking my home.' He thought to himself as he gently untangled himself from Emily.

"You two need to go back...it's dangerous out here..." He said, trying to be firm but Emily just shook her head and smirked while Dawson just shook his head, firmly frowning at the thought.

"I'm not going to hide in the bunker while others risk their lives! I'm going to join MODD soon anyway, so I'll be doing stuff like this. I take it as practice. I am tired of being a coward Littlesea, I'm done hiding. Hiding my sexuality, how I feel about you and hiding from danger. I've done enough of that!" He said, while walking up to him. "And you've been through shit yourself didn't you? I can see it in your eyes. Those are the eyes of someone who's seen war, you fought in that battle against the Unsealed didn't you?" He looked Noah right in the eye, his brown reflecting right into Noah's own blue and for whatever reason he felt butterflies in his stomach. Dawson seemed different, had he really changed that much in such a short time? Or was this the true Dawson? The one he kept hidden from the world.

"And what if i did?" Noah asked cooly. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"You are being a hypocrite!" Dawson said, getting in his face. "Why should you get to fight but not us? You are just as much a rookie as us in this! Plus it's our home too! I'm not going back in there while these bastards are destroying my home Littlesea! I want them to pay just as much as you do!" Noah was taken aback by the emotion in the alsatian's voice before the dog gave him a sad smile. "I am going to help whether you like it or not. Sorry, it's not your decision to make." He said before looking at the large tiger and wolf. "Is there any objection, Lt. Hart?" The wolf just shrugged.

"I don't see any problems. If you are coming you can't really stop them kid, he has a point there." He said as he started walking forward. "But might as well go talk to the sheriff, he should be at town hall with the mayor." Noah just sighed and nodded as they went on their way. It seemed like the fighting had been handled as the cops had managed to hold back the Inquisition goons.

"Any word on MODD reinforcements?" Noah asked curiously.

"They just arrived actually, we'll be meeting them at the courthouse. They even managed to get one of the Elemental Lords here." Aidan said calmly which perked Noah's interest.

'An Elemental Lord? I didn't think one would show up...this doesn't sound like something they would deal with personally.' Noah thought to himself. "Which one?" He asked. "Is it Gale Winthrop?" He asked, it made sense since Rillotia was his territory so if any Elemental Lord would have shown up surely it would have been him right? Other ones showing up would be odd after all, they had their own nations to protect.

"They didn't say, just told us to meet them at the mayor's house. I guess we'll find out when we get there." Noah just nodded, he could tell the other two also looked interested and excited to meet an actual elemental lord. He couldn't help but be excited as well. From his TV appearances Gale Winthrop seemed like a fairly chill and friendly guy despite being one of the most powerful people on the planet. Soon enough they were finally at the courthouse, MODD Agents were stationed outside guarding the building. The insignia was definitely the one for Pollenburn so maybe it was Commander Winthrop after all. As soon as they got into sighting distance, one of them ran up to them. A massive wolf, even bigger than Aidan. He looked to be in his early 40's but he still had a bit of rugged handsomeness to him. When he saw Aidan he gave a chuckle.

"Fancy seeing you here Aidan, long time no see." The man said, holding a large hand out to Aidan who grinned back and grabbed it. Noah noticed something though, the emblem was different than the ones of the other MODD soldiers. Instead of a stylized tornado it was a star.

"It has been, I would have gotten in contact but I heard you had your hands full with our newest Elemental Lord." Aidan said with a grin of his own. Noticing everyone seemed confused he explained things. "Ah, where are my manners! This is Silas! He was my mentor during my time in the academy. He was Asýnchroni like me, couldn't sync with a Glyph for the life of him."

"That was until our newest Elemental Lord synched with the Seal of Space. And once he was fully synched, somehow I managed to sync as well and became his current second." He said grinning. "I don't have the full power, but I can use it enough to put me above most Glyph users. Even got a snazzy Lt. Com rank out of it." He said with a smile before noticing Noah and did a double take. "Ja-Jacob!" He said surprised which confused Noah even more than he already was.

'What, did this guy know my parents as well? They must have been quite popular...'

"Jacob?" Emily asked confused, looking between Noah and the man. "Sir, I think you might have things confused...his name is Noah, not Jacob..." She stated before Noah shrugged.

"He's not wrong...my birth name is Jacob..." He said with another shrug. "It's a long story but both Noah and Jacob could be considered correct I guess." Emily just looked at him even more confused and Dawson just gave him a raised eyebrow but Noah did nothing to explain himself further. He still didn't understand all of this himself.

"Did you know my parents as well?" He asked curiously but the man shook his head.

"Nope, never met them, but come with me! I think someone would be very happy to meet you." With that he grabbed Noah's arm and took him inside before anyone could move. Noah tried to protest but the older wolf seemed quite content with ignoring him and took him into the mayor's home. It was one of the larger homes in the town. Not quite a mansion but still very nice for such a tiny town and soon enough, into a room where the mayor, sheriff and another shorter wolf with bright silvery blond hair stood over a map seeming to be talking about the current situation.

"So we have gotten them to take refuge in the school?" The silvery haired wolf asked, his voice was young and he didn't even look a day over 20 but Noah could still sense a lot of power radiating from the seal on the man's arm.

"Yes, your forces have helped greatly but if I may ask Commander Reaper, what brings you here? No offense but this doesn't seem like something an Elemental Lord, let alone one not assigned to Rillotia to come aid us." The Mayor, a slim bobcat said with a curious tone.

'Wait, Commander Reaper?' Noah thought as he felt his heart speed up. The silvery haired wolf replied, nobody seeming to notice him or the giant wolf.

"I was born here in Rillotia. Shellington is my home so while I might not be officially assigned to the nation like Gale it's still my home. So I will aid it when I can, especially from those Inquisition bastards." He said before looking down a bit before mumbling something only Noah himself could make out clearly. "Plus there is someone I'm looking for here...someone very important to me." Noah felt his heart skip a beat as an odd sense of familiarity seemed to creep into his mind. He unconsciously grabbed his arm, his sigil being in the same location he sensed the wolf's seal to be. But before anything could be said by anyone Silas boomed out.

"Oi! Rex! I think I found something that will make you quite happy!" Everyone jumped at the sudden loud noise and when the smaller wolf turned to demand what he was talking about he froze and got a good look at the man's face for the first time. They had the same eyes, a bright sapphire blue and a similar facial structure and the odd sense of familiarity seemed to only increase. The wolf looked at him with pure shock for a second before tears started to fall from his eyes as he looked happier than Noah had ever seen anyone.

"Jacob...is that you?"

"Rex...?" Was all Noah could say before he fainted, mind suddenly overwhelmed by the sudden rush of emotions he felt and a sudden explosive headache from all the memories suddenly flowing into his mind but before he lost full awareness he could hear Rex say something.

"I missed you so much baby brother..." before he fully faded into the darkness.

Noah found himself once more in the dark empty void but it was different somehow...he noticed he was standing on what looked like a beautiful marble flooring instead of floating in the void like he did last time. 'Okay, this is weird...what is going on here?' He thought to himself as he looked around the void. Nothing else had changed all that much besides the random flooring but it was better than floating he figured. "Hello? Anyone there? Why am I back here? What's going on?" He shouted into the void but to no avail as his words were lost in the dark void. "This is so weird... who was that weirdo from last time? R3 right? Where did he get off to?" Noah said to himself as he continued to look around for reasons he couldn't really understand why. This place was fairly empty so he didn't have much to look at all told.

"You called?" A calm voice rang out, causing Noah to let out a panicked yelp and grab his chest before glaring at a smirking (or at least he thought he was smirking since he couldn't see his face) armored man with the familiar and still creepy 8 pointed star eyes. "Oh, did I scare you Jacob? My apologies." The man said but Noah was not sure if the man was telling the truth or not. "You have questions, I take it?" He said, his voice still calm as ever.

"Well no shit! I finally meet Rex, the older brother I had completely forgotten about for years but I'm swarmed with so many memories my brain couldn't take it. Just what is going on here R3!?"

"It's a long story, but your memories are slowly starting to come back and it is having an effect on your inner realm of Naught as you can clearly see." R3 said as he mentioned down to the floor. "It's not much but it's a good start, you remember plenty but you have a long way to go before all the chains of your memory realign itself."

'Okay, you are making this sound like some random video game sequel where you are in a weird castle that makes things out of your memory and you fight with cards yet the dude who literally uses cards to fight isn't there.' He winced as he felt a sharp pain in his head. 'Oh come on! Deadpool gets to break the fourth wall with impunity, why can't I!?' Another wince happened as he felt a tiny bit of blood trickle down from his nose. 'Okay okay, fine, I'll stop! Don't want my brain to melt.' R3 didn't say anything as Noah had his little internal argument but Noah could sense the faintest of amusement from him.

"Ah, I see you are figuring out a most interesting feature. The ability to see beyond, it makes sense though as this isn't the first time you had this ability."

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Noah yelled out, confused and increasingly aggravated by R3's vagueness. "Not the first time? Are you saying this happened before? "

"It did yes, in another timeline. One where you weren't taken from your family and your father lives while your mother has passed. But that doesn't matter right now, the story of those events are already done and have no bearing on your own story." R3 said calmly as anything as he placed his head on his hands and gave Noah a piercing glance that made him feel almost naked as he fought the urge to cover himself. "Your story is just starting, my young friend." He paused briefly before going into another tangent involving even more timelines.

"Hold on, stop! You are making no sense!" Noah complained frustratingly, getting tired of the vagueness. "So there was another version of me in some other universe or timeline thing? What's all this supposed to mean?" R3 shook his head and sighed.

"That is for you to find out Jacob, you have so much to learn but I'm sure you will figure things out. You always have been the resourceful sort. But our time is slowly coming to a close. It was good talking to you though and I'm sure we will see each other again very soon. But now, wake up Jake, please wake up." With that everything began to be enveloped in a bright white light before...

"Wake up Jake, please wake up!" He heard a newly familiar voice ring above him and with a groan he blearly opened his eyes to see a silvery haired wolf stand above him. The wolf seemingly noticing this gave him a brillant Billion-Credit smile and took him into his arms with a tight, nearly bone crushing hug. "It's you, it really is you! I've been searching for years...I missed you so much Jacob...so much...I have to call mom! She never has been right since dad died but hearing you are alive might cheer her up some." Noah wasn't sure what to do, or how to feel really. He felt happy? Sad? Confused? So many emotions.

"Rex...?" He uttered.

"Yeah Jake? What do you need? Food? Water? I'll get it for you! I'm just...just so glad you're back!" Rex said, his eyes still leaking tears as he held his brother close.

"How long...have I been out?" Noah questioned, still feeling somewhat dizzy from waking up, the thoughts of his conversation with R3. He still wasn't fully sure how much of it was real or how much was him just going crazy. Or was it a side-effect of whatever made them take him in the first place? He had always had weird dreams as a kid, nothing he could ever really remember but just brief flashes of something...a different him. Rex didn't seem to notice his intense confusion as he answered.

"It's about 8 in the morning, you've been asleep for a good while. You scared the shit out of me but Lt. Hart said this has happened before and you'd be fine. What happened?"

"I don't really know, just when I saw you something flashed in my mind and I fainted like my brain was completely overwhelmed." Noah admitted, rubbing his forehead. "I mean until just recently I had no idea you existed..."

"You forgot me?" Rex asked, almost sounding hurt. "Amnesia?" Noah just shrugged.

"I guess? When I woke up here in Crosstown when I was 7 I didn't remember anything...my mind was a complete blank and all I knew was this man who took me in and raised me as his own." He said as he grabbed his arm sadly. "He died in Eldra during the attack." He said sadly on the verge of tears. Rex sighed and held him close and Noah sobbed into his brother's shoulder, it felt nice, like he had something back that he didn't know he was missing.

"It's okay, I know it's hard...It wasn't easy when dad died and you disappeared. It...it broke mom...she started drinking and eventually wasn't able to continue her work with MODD. Times were rough and I had to take care of her but I never gave up hope that I'd find you and it would make everything go back to normal. When I turned 16 I joined the Academy, hoping if I worked for them I could better take care of mom. But when I turned 18 the last Elemental Lord of Space passed away and somehow I managed to sync with the seal perfectly and thus I became the youngest person to ever become an Elemental Lord and I used the money I earned and made a nice home for her and hired a married gay couple to take care of her while I am away. Hal Lionhart, a dragon and his husband, a Lion. They actually have a son your age funnily enough." He says with a smile. "He's a dragon like Hal, named Max. I'm sure you two would get along."

'Max...why does that name sound so familiar? We're going to wind up being best buddies and we're childhood friends in another reality huh?He thinks before wincing as he felt a bit of blood drip from his nose. 'Oh, come on! This isn't fair!

"Jake! Your nose is bleeding!" Rex shouted, snapping Noah out of his thoughts. He touched his nose and shrugged.

"It happens when I break the fourth wall, it's not very fair if you ask me. Deadpool can do it with impunity and he doesn't get any side-effects...then again, he's batshit insane." He winced as even more blood came from his nose, causing Rex to panic even more. "I need to stop doing that, I feel like my brain is melting."

"Who the fuck is Deadpool? And what is the fourth wall? And why does breaking it make your nose bleed?"

"I have no clue really, random things pop in my head and I feel compelled to say it. As for Deadpool, he's some anti-hero from some comic-book." He shrugs as he looks for something to stem the bleeding from his nose before Rex taking pity hands him a tissue.

"That's strange, I never heard of any ability like that before." Rex said softly, cupping his chin and looking him over. "You look like mom." He said with a smile. "Got her hair and dad's eyes. You are also taller than me, that's not fair." He said with a smirk as he hugged Noah close once again. "I still can't believe you are here...I've been looking at you for years. I was about to give up but then someone came to me when I was in Atlas, a tall wolf man, fairly handsome. He told me I would find what I was looking for in Crosstown. I asked what he was talking about and he just chuckled and took down the shades he was wearing and he had these weird ass eyes."

"Were they blue with 8-pointed stars in them?" Noah asked, Rex just looked at him surprised and nodded.

"Yeah, how did you guess?" He asked, surprised.

"Um, lets just say I ran into someone quite similar." Noah said with a shrug. "I guess what you were looking for was me, right?" Rex nodded, hugging him close.

"Yeah it was, I wanted nothing more than to find you Jake. I was actually on my way here before I got word of the Inquisition raid. It's funny. But once we get done with things I'm gonna take you back home. Mom will be so happy to see you Jake!" Noah froze at that. He couldn't go to Shellington! He had stuff to do! He had to go to Greasham.

"I can't go to Shellington! I have to go to Graesham! I had a vision so I have to go there!" Noah said, trying to get out of the bed but Rex wouldn't let him. He might have been taller but he was still quite skinny and Rex had years of military work under his belt so he was quite well built for his shorter height.

"Graesham? Are you crazy? Why would you need to go there? It's too dangerous Jake!" Rex all but shouted before he took a deep breath and calmed himself down. "You are still a kid Jake, and you already been through so much. After everything here is settled we're going home. I'll set you up at a good school or hell, you can join the MODD Academy if you want, but right now all I want is for you to be safe. I lost you for seven years Jake. I can't lose you again." Rex seemed near tears once again and Noah could sense his fear and on some level he understood. But still, the fact that Rex seemed to be trying to stop him from pursuing his purpose and frustration boiled in his blood.

"Yes, Graesham! I have to go there Rex, I feel it with every fibre of my being that I need to be there. It's like if I don't go there something bad will happen." Noah muttered, trying to voice the odd feeling in his gut. "I know it's dangerous but if there is a chance of me being there stopping another Eldra I have to take it. I couldn't live with myself if there was a way I could stop a disaster but didn't." Rex looked troubled by this but before he could say anything Noah cut him off. "I know you think I'm a kid Rex but I'm not! I fought on the frontlines in Eldra, I was the one who took out Hydra with my powers." With that he let his Sigil glow and spread across his body which made Rex yelp and jump back as if Noah was suddenly radioactive, which Noah found a bit amusing though he suppressed his chuckle.

"What on earth is that!?" Rex asked, seemingly shocked about Noah suddenly glowing. "I've never seen anything like that. Is it like a seal?"

"I think it's called a Sigil, not really sure what it is or where it came from but it's my power. It gives me power over both Darkness and Time." Rex looked startled by that. 'Is that truly so unusual? I don't really know much about Seals or Glyphs so I honestly wouldn't know.'

"It gives you control of two Elements? Really? Not even the Prime Seals can do that, and since they are what the Glyphs themselves are made of, the same applies to them. I've never heard of something that gives you control over two at once." Rex mumbled, mostly to himself but Noah was able to make everything out easily.

`Well, that answered my question then...so it is unusual.' Noah thought as he rubbed the sigil on his arm. 'Where did this power come from? I don't get it.' He let out a sigh which seemed to catch Rex's attention.

"So what does all this mean? Do you know why you have this power?" Noah just shook his head still rubbing his sigil as he let the glowing fade.

"Not a clue, all I know is this power when I killed a malefactor that possessed Aidan's dad after I went inside the seal." Rex just looked at him like he had grown a second head.

"You what? What the fuck is a Malefactor!? And did you say you went inside a seal? Like beyond the Tor?" Rex asked and Noah just shrugged, he still didn't really understand just what happened there.

"Malefactors are basically beings from another reality. They aren't native to this world so they can bypass the normal protection that a seal usually provides. But yeah, it took over Aidan's dad and forced him to release Hydra but I managed to free him after he managed to wrest control from the invader." Noah said with a stretch as he got out of bed. "I'm guessing the others are already in the mayor's office? Let's go." He said before looking for his swords. "Hey, have you seen my blades? Kinda need them." He says looking around even more, frowning when he isn't able to find them.

"Wh-why would you need them?" Rex asked, looking a bit uncomfortable, something Noah picked up on causing him to narrow his eyes.

"Rex, what did you do with them? I need them because I plan on helping out taking out those Inquisition bastards. They are attacking my home and I want to make them pay for that." Noah said with great passion which made Rex balk a bit. "Oh, come on! If I can fight through an army of unholy abominations and take out a frickin puritian I can handle a bunch of religious fanatics!" Noah said coldly. "Plus you'll be there! If I get in trouble you'll have my back and I'll have yours as well. Just trust me Rex, I can do this. I want to fight. This is my home." Rex grimaced but the look Noah was giving him made him sigh in defeat and with a snap of his fingers a portal opened and Noah's blades fell onto the ground.

"I had put them up for safekeeping. I was hoping you would just avoid fighting but you're as stubborn as our mother." Rex let out a sad chuckle at that. "I know you can fight but I'm just terrified of you getting hurt. If I lost you again I wouldn't be able to live with myself." Rex said, his voice sad. "I missed you so much, everyone was convinced you were dead but I never gave up hope that you were alive and here you are, you were here the entire time and I never knew."

"Well, there is still a lot I don't remember...my dad...my adoptive dad you could say, he gave me a holo-disk...says it would have everything on it, stuff he never got the chance to tell me in person." Noah said as he sat down on the bed. "I've been wanting to watch it but I'm scared honestly to know the truth about things." Rex gave a sad sigh and sat down next to him and drew him into a hug.

"I'll watch it with you, I wanna know what happened myself and I want to be there for you also baby brother." He said, ruffling Noah's hair causing the boy to let out a yell of protest as he glared at the other wolf. "Oh come on, you are my little brother and we got years of teasing to catch up on." Rex replied with a smirk before becoming a bit more serious. "Do you want to watch it now? The holodisk?" Noah just shook his head no though, he knew they had more serious things to account for right now.

"After we fix things here. As much as I want to watch it now I think we should deal with the inquisition first. That's our priority." Rex frowned, obviously not happy with it but Noah just untangled himself and got up before getting his swords secured. "Oh stop pouting, like I said, this is my home. I will make them pay for messing with this town! Are you coming or not?" Noah said with a challenging glare and with a dramatic sigh Rex nodded and got up himself.

"Fine, let's go but I am not letting you out of my sight, you got that Jake? We stick together or it's nothing." Noah wanted so badly to roll his eyes at that but he knew better than to do so. His brother meant well, he knew that. It would just get some getting used to, having a big brother or any family besides his dad. Rex seemed to catch on to him being deep in thought. "Credit for your thoughts Jake?" This caused Noah to jump a bit in surprise.

"Sorry, it's just weird." Noah said with a sigh, trying to put his thoughts into words properly. "All my life...all the life I remember at least, since I woke up here. I've only had my dad, he never talked about his family or ever really mentioned them and whenever I tried asking it he would either avoid the question or clam up until I changed the subject." Noah sighed once again, heart breaking. "It used to frustrate me so much, but now he's gone and I miss him so much. I just don't know what to do now. All I have is that vision in Graesham, I don't know what happens after that." Rex gave him another hug.

"I know what you mean, it was rough when dad was murdered and we lost you. I just felt lost, mom collapsed and was in the hospital for a month. It was scary, and I felt so lost. It's why i devoted myself into joining MODD, mom eventually lost her position in the MODD forces but thankfully we managed to keep her pension so we weren't completely in the streets but is rough." Rex muttered as he shook his head. "It was hard, it took me at least a year before I could really accept that he was gone and I would sometimes wait up all night convinced you would walk through the door and we could all be a family again." He took a deep breath and continued.

"But as days turned into weeks and eventually into years it got harder to believe that, but I never let myself give up on you. I felt if I gave up I would truly lose you forever. It's honestly why I forced myself into the seal selection. The Star Lord before me was dying of cancer and didn't have much time to life and didn't have a Second to pass on the Seal of Star and MODD was scrambling to find someone who could connect with the seal before he died because they were afraid that if there wasn't someone to pass the seal onto they would lose that power forever." He leaned back, smirking.

"Honestly I think the fact they were so desperate was why they even let me try and sync with the seal. I don't think anyone really expected it to work since I was just a kid right out of the academy but much to everyone's shock I was able to sync with it fully." He said showing his seal. "I think there was about 10 minutes of pure silence before anyone realized the implications of everything. I wasn't honestly shocked.
