A Soldiers Story
A Soldiers Story
By: Shadow Nightclaw
"Travel the world they said.....Serve our country and homeland they said........damn Hollywood and all its hyped war movies!" the black wolf growled softly, before ducking down out of sheer reflex as another loud explosion rocked the ground close by. Metal shrapnel flecking against the wall that he was hiding behind, while in the background he could hear the crackles of gun fire. The digits of his paw clenching his carbine even more firmly, ears straining for the sound of any footsteps close by. A sure signal that any enemy soldiers could be getting closer, possibly chancing upon him as he sat next to a window.
Slowly, he leaned forwards a bit, peeking around the corner of the window. The black wolfs greysilver eyes slowly looking down the street, having picked a building with windows facing down the street. Letting him get a clear view of anyone happening to try and make their way up the street. A few grey/white uniformed corpses already littering the streets, most of them with red stains at their chests or back, laying in a slowly drying pool of blood. While a few of the corpses were slumped up against the brick walls of the buildings lining the streets.
After ascertaining that the coast was clear of any enemy snipers, he leaned forwards a bit more. Shifting his position away from the wall to brace his knee and legs against the floor to support himself. Easing his rifle out of the window a bit, resting it against the window sill to support the carbines weight. His cheek pressing against the hard wood butt of the rifle, left eye closing while he sighted down the rifle barrel through the sight.
The black wolf remaining in that position as the minutes slowly ticked by, still focusing down through the sight, while listening for any potential enemies trying to catch him from behind. Then, he saw a flash of movement, a helmeted head poking around the corner of the wall at the end of the street quickly. Apparently checking for any enemy soldiers before he charged around the corner, running to some objective only he knew. Shifting around a bit to follow the enemy soldier through his sight, following his movements with practiced ease. Then, he squeezed the trigger, a quick crackle sounding through the air. While the enemy soldier running down the street jerked, crumpling forwards like a rag doll to fall to the ground in a heap.
The black wolf keeping the enemy soldiers body in his rifle sight just in case he some how survived the shot he had sustained. Taking slow, steadying breaths as he worked to keep the rifle as still as possible. Each breath he drew smelling acridly of burned corpses, death and destruction all around. As he was about to lean back, he heard the almost inaudible sound of a foot fall just outside the room he was hiding in. Causing him to glance over his shoulder at the doorway quickly, just in time to see another enemy soldier rushing through the doorway at him with a weapon he dreaded most in close combat, an MP40.
Right as the enemy soldier opened fire, he leaped to the side, getting peppered with wall fragments as bullets ripped through the wall he was at. Growling loudly as he swung the barrel of his Carbine at the enemy soldier, squeezing the trigger as fast as he could, expecting a sharp crack of his rifle to end the skirmish quickly. Instead, he heard the clack of his rifle jamming, something that every single shot rifleman feared in close combat. To top that off, he hadn't fitted his bayonet to the barrel of his rifle since he didn't expect to be in close combat with an enemy soldier like this.
The enemy soldier, seeing that his opponents rifle had jammed, slowly started to smirk while bringing his MP40 to bear upon his opponent. Leaving the black wolf to whine quietly as he stared up at the enemy soldier, whom he could see was a lithe brown bear, now that he had a few seconds to see who what species he was. Not that it would matter in a few seconds as his greysilver eyes followed the cold, metallic barrel of the MP40 as it aimed right at his head. Then, there was a quick click as the bear pulled the trigger.......and nothing happened...... He couldn't help but blink a bit, staring up at the bear, who seemed to be equally confused. The bear looking down at his MP40 as he pulled the trigger a few more times with the same resounding click. After a few seconds, it quickly dawned upon the wolf...the bear had used all of his ammo in his clip.
With a savage snarl, the black wolf tossed his rifle at the bears head. The bear looking up in time to get smacked across the face by his opponents rifle, while the wolf drew his bayonet from his belt pouch quickly. Diving forwards at the bear from the ground, slashing his bayone towards the bear, burying it as deep into the bears chest as he could. Growling loudly while he watched the bears face turning from one of pain from the impact to his face, to one of agony and terror. The bears eyes going wide as he stared down at the blade buried deep into his chest, his red blood slowly oozing out of his chest to soak his grey/white uniform.
Looking up into his opponents eyes, the wolf kept growling softly, though growing a bit worried as the bear seemed to be recovering from the shock of being stabbed. The bears paws suddenly lunging forward and wrapping around the wolfs throat, earning a groan from the wolf as he was getting choked. Grunting as he couldn't draw breath, staring into the bears eyes as he slowly pulled the bayonet out of the bears chest. Slashing the bloody blade across the bears throat as hard as he could, cutting through the thick pelt and flesh. Severing his opponents esophogus and arteries, causing thick, red blood to start spurting out of the bears throat. The bears eyes going wide in shock, from pain along with the quickly mounting terror of not being able to draw breath. What with one lung already pierced by the blade, while the slashed throat made things all the worse for the bear.
The black wolf standing where he was as he felt the bears grip around his neck slowly, but surely weakening. Gasping raggedly as his throat was finally released when the bear sagged down to his knees, then onto his sides. Its jaw gaped wide, vainly gasping for breath, instead only creating a bloody gurgling sound as air escaped the bears unpierced lung. While the black wolfs chest rose and fell as he gasped heavily, slowly slumping backwards against the wall. Trembling from the adrenaline rush from a very deadly close quarters fight that could have cost him his life. Eyes closing tightly while he dropped his bloody knife to the ground with a clattering thud. Head resting back against the wall, listening to the crackle of gunfire throughout the town under siege.
As he listened, he thought he could hear an increase in the gunfire, along with several loud explosions. Then, he heard a loud, rumbling crack, a sound he recognized as an allied tanks main cannon being fired. "So......the reinforcements have finally arrived.......about fucking damned time......" he muttered softly with a growl of annoyance. The black wolf and a number of other soldiers having been spending the better part of four months holding onto the strategic town for their side. Having suffered heavy casualties, along with the city being three fourths destroyed in the heavy fighting for control.
After a while, his breathing slowed down as he had regained his breath, he froze, hearing the sound of heavy footsteps rushing along the hallway just outside his room. With a short curse he dove to grab his rifle from where it laid on the floor. Quickly leaning backwards, paws fumbling to work the bolt to try and unjam his rifle. Right as he managed to get the jammed bullet free from his rifle, the heavy footfalls entered his room. The wolf's eyes looking up quickly, falling upon a black/silver clad soldier. Upon seeing his colors, he couldn't help but sigh heavily, eyes closing in relief upon seeing a fellow soldier.
"Hey....you alright?....." the allied soldier spoke, having seen the dead bear in a growing pool of blood.
At which the wolf couldn't help but nod slowly, panting slightly from relief, shaking a bit once more from yet another adrenaline rush. "yeah.....yeah.......about damned time you guys got here....." he growled softly. Opening his eyes to look up at the fellow soldier, of whom he could see was a black/white dragon, lithe and lean. Dressed in a uniform that seemed to be still relatively new, possibly a week or two old from what he could tell. While the black wolfs uniform was torn and tattered, spattered with blood from small wounds he had gotten from metal shrapnel and stone specks from bullet impacts and explosions. His black fur more of a grey color from the dust and dirt accumulated from all the time he had spent fighting.
"yeah....well.....blame that on our idiot commander....." the dragon muttered softly as he relaxed a bit, glancing out the window slightly. While the wolf slowly sat upwards with a slight grunt, still grasping his carbine. "So.....who're you?....." the wolf asked softly, staring up at the dragon, wondering if he had even seen combat yet. Since he seemed to be rather fresh to it all, but looks could always be deceiving he knew.
"My name is Raeth......yours?....." Raeth said softly while he shifted his eyes to look at the rather dusty looking wolf. The dragons golden eyes with reptilian slits lazily looking over the wolfs dust and blood covered form, eying the number of dried blood stains.
As the wolf sat there staring up at Raeth, he watched him look over the wolfs form, wondering what was going through the dragons mind as he replied, "My name is Shadow." he said softly. For a few minutes he remained where he was, staring up at the dragon with the dragon staring down upon him. The wolf's gaze slowly looking over the dragons uniform a bit more as he started to think a bit more clearly, now that his adrenaline was dying down. His greysilver eyes straying down towards the dragons groin slowly, wondering just what was hidden beneath those clothes. Then he realized where he was looking, quickly glancing down as he started to slowly get up.
Once he was on his feet, Shadow leaned over against the wall next to a window to look out. Watching as a number of soldiers dressed in uniforms matching his and Raeth's started to pour down the street he had been watching over. A few of the soldiers stopping to check a few of the corpses to verify they were dead before proceeding on. "So.....whats it like?....." he heard Raeth ask from behind him. The dust covered wolfs ears swiveling on his head to face towards Raeth slightly as he responded, "What is what like?" he said softly while he just kept staring out of the window. While a feeling of relief and joy that the long awaited reinforcements had finally arrived in the city. Yet, he also couldn't help but wonder, if all of his and his comrades efforts had been for nothing.
"Well.....whats it like?......killing fellow furs.....having to be scared as they try to kill you in return?........waiting for your forces to arrive to secure the city that you and your friends were holding for months....." he heard Raeth speak, whose words confirmed the wolfs suspicions that the dragon had yet to see combat.
With a soft sigh, the wolf slowly hung his head, shaking it slightly. Trying to think as to how best to reply to the dragons questions, how to describe what its like to be in combat. To hear the whistle of bullets flying through the air, feel the ruffle of bullets grazing through his fur. The pain of watching his friends die before his eyes, the pain of being shot or injured by shrapnel.
He stood there for some time, looking through the window, before he finally spoke. "In war.....you have no time to be scared........the rest......you'll find out for yourself soon enough......" he said softly, before he looked over his shoulder at the dragon. When his eyes fell upon Raeth again, he thought he saw something akin to sadness in the dragons eyes. Whether sadness at knowing that he would most likely be seeing friends die......or sadness for something else.... After a few moments of thought, Shadow just sighed and shook his head, before shouldering his rifle. "I need to go take a bath........" he said softly as he slowly walked past the dragon and into the hallway.
As he walked down the hallway, he could hear the dragons footsteps as he followed the wolf down the hallway. "yeah....you look like you could use a bath....considering your nothing but dust right now...." Raeth remarked with what he heard to be a soft chuckle. At which Shadow couldn't help but smile softly, nodding slowly as he started down the stairs. "yeah....well thats what happens when your defending a city for four months.....no time to wash yourself up....." he replied with a chuckle as he walked out into the bright, burning light of day.
"Well...I need to go join the rest of my squad.....so see you later?.....Shadow?...." he heard Raeth saying in a rather soft voice, which made him turn around, looking forth into the dragons eyes curiously. "hmmm......maybe......I've no idea what is to happen with me and the rest of my comrades." he said with a slight shrug. "I see.....well.....I hope to see you again Shadow......" Raeth said softly while the dragon glanced away in such a way that the wolf couldn't help but wonder what was going on through the dragons mind right then. With a soft sigh, Shadow shifted his footpaws slightly while thinking, before he replied, "Well.....maybe your commander will want us to tag along......but only time will tell...." At which Raeth could do nothing but nod, before he turned and started jogging off down the rubble strewn street towards where his squad was at presumably. Leaving the dust coated wolf to stand where he was for a while, watching Raeth trot down the rubble littered road. Before he himself turned and padded off, heading towards the commander to find out what they wanted him and his surviving soldiers to do.
Three weeks later.....
Shadow sighed softly while he rode atop of the tank along with 14 other fellow soldiers, listening to the steady clanking of the tracks running along the pavement of the road. Glancing back over his shoulder to watch the long line of soldiers and tanks trailing behind them. Flickering his ears slightly as his gaze shifted to look at the country surrounding them, before falling upon the city that was looming up before them. "Alright men.....time to sally up.....they know we're coming....." he said loudly to the men of his squad. His black/silver uniform cleaner then it had been in the past, the only change to his uniform being a new pin on his shoulder signifying his promotion to sargeant major. The black wolfs rifle clean and polished to a perfect sheen, as if it was brand new.
The wolfs greysilver eyes watching the city getting closer and closer while he listened to the soft sounds of the men in his squad preparing themselves for the coming fight to wrest another critical city from the enemies paws. And as he sat there, he could almost sense the eagerness of his fellow soldiers anxious for combat. Most of them being quite green to fighting, especially in close combat in the city, where he knew that a number of them would be watching their friends die in front of them. With a soft sigh, he shook his head, figuring they'll learn soon enough that there is absolutely no glory in combat. Only pain, suffering, blood, and death....
Then.....he heard a soft, steady whistling sound......"INCOMING ARTILLERY! TAKE COVER!" he barked out quickly, banging on the tank hatch to get the tank driver to speed up. Before he rolled off of the tank top, quickly moving around behind the tank to get as much cover beneath the several hundred tons of solid steel. Where he was joined in seconds by a number of fellow soldiers, while others tried to seek cover else where.
The whistling sound quickly turned into roaring explosions of fire and shrapnel along the line, sounds of screaming pain and agony filling the gaps between the impacts of the artillery. Accompanied by the rumbling explosions of tanks unfortunate enough to have been hit by the artillery, the explosives within going off in a large, roaring cocaphony of flame and metal. Killing the tank crews inside instantly, while killing and maiming a number of soldiers around the tanks that were hit.
As the artillery kept raining down upon them, they kept moving forwards towards the city as fast as they could. Yet as they kept moving, the artillery just kept raining down, as if there was no end to it. "Dammit...." he growled, before reaching over to grab his radioman, whom, fortunately, was hiding behind the same tank as him. "Call in the arty! We need suppressing fire on their artillery position dammit!" he roared at his radioman, whom nodded quickly as he grabbed the receiver on his radio unit. Speaking urgently into the mouthpiece to the soldier at the other end, all the while Shadow was following along behind the tank urgently, listening to the pings of shrapnel pinging off of the steel.
After what seemed to be an eternity, the rain of artillery around them slowly died down, leaving behind a state of perpetual silence. Penetrated only by the groans and cries of the wounded, the soft crackling of flame from the tanks destroyed in the shelling. "dammit....." he muttered softly to himself, shaking his head as he slowly eased himself from behind the tank. Glancing behind himself to look along the line to the front and back, looking at several burning tanks and the bodies of soldiers littering the field. "Damn......they hit us good....." he grumbled softly, before sighing quietly. Soon enough, he heard the orders being given along the line to hurry it up to the city, get in close to the enemy so that they couldn't use their artillery upon them again.....or so the upper command hoped..... "if its not one thing....its another thing....." he muttered softly as he looked over the remains of his squad, a group of about 8 people out of 15 total.
"alright guys.....gather around....." he barked out as he climbed back up atop of the tank, glancing over at the other soldiers of his squad as they climbed back atop of their ride. "Alright, heres whats happening. We're to take that city from the enemy, no matter the cost. That city, lies right along the resupply line that the enemy use to supply other cities, whether those supplies be tanks, soldiers, food or ammunition. If we take this city, we cause them a world of hurt. Once we enter that city, its going to turn into a hell hole. So watch each others back, and we'll get through this alive. Now lock and load boys!" he spoke out sharply while unshouldering his rifle and cocking it as example, before looking on at the city only a couple thousand yards away.
Then he heard the soft, quickly scuffling of paws, followed by the sounds of a few more soldiers climbing up onto his tank. Prompting him to look back, his gaze falling upon Raeth and a few other soldiers he didn't recognize. "umm.....can I help you?...." he said softly while arching an eyebrow, looking over the four breathless soldiers.
"Sir......the brigade commander has ordered us to join your squad.....since the rest of ours.....has been wiped out in that shelling....." Raeth spoke rather quickly, seeming to be quite shaken up from the shelling. Along with being rather breathless from having had to run all the way up the line to his tank.
Slowly, the black wolf nodded before he shifted slightly, turning around to face the new additions to his squad. "Very well. Though let me just say this.......fight today.....mourn tomorrow....." he said softly, knowing very well that the new additions might let the loss of their squad mates get to them if they let it. Which could lead to their own deaths, since in war, even a seconds hesitation would get you killed....
The black wolf stared at Raeth and the new soldiers for a few minutes, waiting for them to nod, of which they did a few minutes later. Letting him sigh softly, before facing the city once more and steeling himself for the inevitable killing field that would happen in the city.
The closer they got to the city, the deeper breaths he took, exhaling slowly to let out any tension he had in him. While he kept a firm, relaxed grasp upon his rifle, relaxing his muscles so that he could react faster then one whose muscles are tight from tension.
Then, when they were within five hundred yards of the city, all the soldiers started piling off of the tanks to walk behind them. Using the tanks as a sort of large, moving armored shield to protect them for the most part from any sniper fire against them. The black wolf and his squad keeping as close to the back of the tank as they dared to as it trundled along towards the city. Ears cocked to listen to the grinding of tank treads along the concrete road into the city. Occasionally glancing around the side of the tank to see how far they were from the city, so that he could have his squad move into the nearest building they could to start clearing it out, as well as have a safe place for his men to be rather then out in the open, were they'd be easy targets for snipers. "Alright boys.....in a few minutes we're going to rush into the first building on the right as soon as we're close. So get yourselves ready, we may have to fight our way in...." he spoke quickly to them, before peering around the side once more. Ignoring the soft whispers of his squad mates as they passed the word on to others who hadn't heard him, watching as they drew ever closer.
Once they were within fifty yards of the first building, he quickly sprinted around the side of the tank, rushing towards the door to the first multistory brick building. Fully expecting a barrage of gunfire to start opening up, his footpaws slapping against the bare ground hard as he ran. Jaws parting while he panted heavily from the effort of maintaining his speed, slowing down just long enough to kick the door in. Before stepping to the side to let the second soldier behind him maintain his momentum and charge into the room, followed by the rest of the squad. While he stood by the door, watching as other squads of the collumn move from their positions behind the tanks and charge into the city once they got close enough. After the last man on his squad went through the door, he slipped through himself. Readying his rifle as he looked around the room, watching the experienced men of his squad guarding the entry and exit points of the room. While the greenhorns, the new soldiers, stood off to the side, muscles taut and tense.
Slowly, he padded up next to the greenhorns, reaching a paw up to softly squeeze one of their shoulders. Whom turned out to be Raeth, who quickly glanced over his shoulder while jumping slightly at the tough. Looking forth into Shadow's eyes, whom just stood there as he surveyed the room. "alright guys, I want us to clear out this building, room by room. Go slowly and stay as quiet as you can. Maintain the element of surprise as much as you can." he whispered softly, looking especially sharply at the greenhorns. As if to tell them to follow the more experienced soldiers, the ones who really knew how to survive in close quarters combat.
With slow nods, the men of his squad slowly started to fan out, slowly sneaking their way through the building. Guns at the ready as the soldiers followed behind each other as they were trained to do. While the black wolf padded behind the greenhorns, more to keep them alive, as well as to make sure they didn't get into any trouble.
As Shadow and the unit of four soldiers made their way down the hallway, he kept his ears up. Listening for the slightest sound of trouble in any of the rooms close by, greysilver eyes looking down the hallway alertly.
Then....he heard a faint, barely audible clicking sound....and as he started to open his muzzle to speak, there was a sudden, explosive roar of gunfire. The two soldiers leading the way down the hallway getting gunned down instantly, falling backwards dead without even knowing what had hit them. While he couldn't help but yelp and grabbed the two greenhorns in front of him and slammed them down against the ground. Feeling and hearing the sounds of bullets tearing their way through the walls above and behind them. Peppering and dusting them with the white chalk of sheet rock lining the walls.
The wolf's eyes quickly glancing down the hall to see the barrel of an MG pointing around a door on the side of the hall, being fired wildly by someone who figured that a big spray of bullets would take out anyone in the hall. Something that gave him and the greenhorns a chance to escape the death trap, but it was also a trap that could still potentially kill them with stray bullets.
"Oh my god! We're going to die!" he heard one of the greenhorns yelping, prompting a quick glance, which told him that the second greenhorn, a fox, was virtually paralyzed with fear. While the dragon, Raeth, seemed to be just as afraid, but not paralyzed by his fear. Instead, he had the look of determination about him, wanting to escape the death trap and help to rescue his surviving comrades. While he looked at the dragon in those few seconds, he watched Raeth's eyes shifting to look into his. An unspoken message going between them that conveyed quicker then words that they had to fight together if they were to escape alive.
Then, as quickly as the wolf and dragon looked at each other, their gaze shifted to look down the hallway. The wolf grasping his wolf tighter in his paws, muzzle parting to shout, "COVERING FIRE!". Of which the black and white dragon was quick to do, firing off a quick, steady succession of bullets down the hallway. The bullets peppering the wall and doorframe of the door the MG was being poked out from. Causing the MG to pause his fire and draw his gun back for fear of being hit, a natural, and potentially fatal instinct that only an experienced soldier could suppress. And with the enemy soldier being distracted by his instinct for a few crucial seconds, Shadow got up and charged down the hallway. Running as fast as he could for the doorway that the gunner was behind. Then, as if in slow motion, he watched as the MG barrel was reappearing through the doorway. Slowly being focused back down the hallway towards him, something he knew he had to stop.
The wolf's speed increasing as adrenaline ran through his blood, running faster then he could ever remember running. Shifting his rifle a bit as he got closer to the barrel, watching as it finally pointed right at him. With a loud roar, he slammed at the MG barrel with his rifle, knocking it to the side right as the gunner opened up fire again. The bullets tearing through the walls to his right as the gun barrel was slammed against the wall. The force of his rifle hitting the front of the MG42 causing the rear of the gun to fly towards the hallway. The back of the MG being torn from the gunners paw from the sheer force of his strength. While the wolf turned to slam his left shoulder against the doorframe, letting his speed carry him forwards still. Slamming up against the door frame with a loud crack of shattering wood, his greysilver eyes falling upon the face of a shocked lion in the other room.
While everything still seemed to be stuck in slow motion, his eyes watching out of his peripheral vision as the barrel of his rifle lifted upwards to focus right on the lions face. Watching his enemy's eyes going even wider, as if seeing the vision of death himself come for him. Prompting the wolf to try and back up as fast as he could....bad choice, too late. As he watched all this happening, he squeezed the trigger, feeling the familiar buck of his rifle against him along with the loud bark of gun fire. Watching in slow motion as a black hole appeared between the lions eyes, while an explosion of blood, bone and brain exploded out of the back of the lions head to splatter the wall.
Then everything suddenly exploded into normal speed, the sharp pain tearing through his shoulder from his impact against the doorframe. Watching as the lions lifeless corpse fell backwards to drop to the ground with a dull thud. The wolf panting raggedly from his charge down the rest of the hallway, slowly sliding down the doorframe until he was sitting and leaning against in it a slump. The barrel of his rifle resting against the ground. His eyes glued to the lifeless corpse of the lion, watching as blood slowly pooled around the lions lifeless head......the results of war.....
"Sir!? Are you hit!?" he dimly heard, before feeling a warm, firm, yet gentle, paw shaking his shoulder. Rousing him from his sort of trance, his gaze shifting from the lions lifeless corpse to look up to Raeth. The dragons eyes cringed in worry as they looked over the wolfs dust coated form, looking for any bullet holes in his clothes that might hint at injury.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." he whispered softly, before slowly he shifted from his sitting position, grunting as he pushed himself up from the floor with a paw. His gaze shifting down the hallway to look at the lifeless bodies of two of his comrades. Then, glancing up, he watched the still rather shocked fox slowly starting to pad down the hallway towards him and Raeth. Without looking at the dragon, Shadow softly said, "Are you hit?" before glancing over at the dragon. Staring forth into the dragons amber eyes, while he let his gun hang loosely in his grasp. "No sir, I'm fine, thanks to you." Raeth said softly, the dragons eyes seeming to convey gratitude for the fact that they had survived. Yet, as he stared into the dragons eyes, he could almost sense something else.....as if Raeth was especially glad that the wolf had survived what could very well have been a suicide charge down the hallway. And as he gazed into the dragons eyes, he felt a strange sensation deep within him, a feeling of longing?.....of want?. 'Bah....what am I thinking, that charge must've rattled me more then I thought.' he thought to himself.
The wolf shook his head to clear himself from his train of thought, glancing between Raeth and the other greenhorn. "alright guys, we still got to clear this building." he said softly, starting to make for the stairs at the end of the hallway leading up to another floor. "But sir!, what about Jake and Mark? We can't.....leave them......" he heard the fox say suddenly, causing the wolf to pause for a few moments. "We don't have time to bury them, not in the middle of battle. Fight now, mourn later." he whispered softly, before continuing on.
And for the rest of the day, Shadow and his small unit kept fighting their way through the city, clearing out buildings one by one. Encountering several more ambushes and close calls, losing a few more of their comrades throughout the battle. Until, finally, the city was theirs, they had driven out the remaining soldiers from the city. Setting up base within the ruins of the city to rest and recuperate from the hard days fighting, and mourn for their fallen comrades....
That night, as he was rolling out his cot to sleep on, he heard the soft sounds of footsteps outside of the room he had taken for his in the remains of a shattered building. Shadows gaze lifting up and looking over at the doorway to watch Raeth pad into the room. One look at the dragons face told him that something was bothering the dragon, but he had no clue as to what it could be. Which made the wolf blink a bit in surprise, tilting his head slightly.
"Sir?...can I speak with you?." Raeth whispered softly, his voice almost cracking from whatever was bothering him.
Which made the wolf wonder what was bothering the dragon all the more, prompting him to nod slowly while he sat down on his cot. Patting a spot next to him, gesturing for the dragon to seat himself. A seat that Raeth slowly took, having hesitated for a few seconds, as if contemplating something. Once the dragon was seated, he glanced into the dragons amber eyes, trying to read them to understand the others emotions. But, all he got, was that the others feelings were very mixed up indeed. "So, whats wrong? Raeth?" he asked softly.
Upon hearing his name, the dragon started slightly, before relaxing as he sat where he was. His gaze directed at the ground, still hesitating, seeming to be getting even more nervous. And as the wolf sat there, the dragon just kept hesitating, making Shadow wonder what was bothering him all the more. Since he had virtually never seen anyone else being this bothered. Right as he was about to ask Raeth what was again, he was interrupted as the dragon started to speak.
"How can you do this? Fight in this war? Watch your comrades die? Yet stay so calm?" Raeth said softly, his voice almost a bare whisper, making Shadow strain his ears virtually just to hear the dragons words.
"I fight to survive, as for the rest, I guess its just I get used to it all. Death I mean......one just has to get used to death in war......because war is filled with it." the wolf said softly after a few minutes contemplation upon how best to answer. His greysilver eyes remaining locked on the dragon the entire time, starting to feel that strange feeling deep within himself once again. Which only made the wolf start to get a bit confused, yet he made sure not to let it show. Since he knew he had to help out a fellow soldier, who was very much shaken up from his first day of combat....or so he was guessing.
"I see....and......what.....what about........what about if you......really liked someone? What would you do? Watching them risk their life everyday? Watching them coming close to death, yet straying from it at the last second?" the dragon whispered softly once more, the dragon's eyes just starting to tear up.
Which only made the wolf blink even more in surprise at the dragon's words. 'Surely, he knows that friends will die. But,does he have.....a crush?' he thought softly to himself. While he sat where he was for a few minutes in thought as he watched the dragon. Then, he finally said, "Then, I'd say you should tell them how you feel, and enjoy every minute with them as you can Since there is always the risk of death everyday." he whispered softly.
"Yeah.....but......what if......what if.....this other person......." Raeth started to say, before pausing for a few minutes, closing his eyes slowly out of increasing embaressment and nervousness. In that time Shadow left him be, letting him gain the courage to speak when he wanted, knowing better then to try and force someone who was on the edge of an emotional break down to speak what they were afraid to say. But after some time, Raeth finally regained control of himself and continued, the dragons amber eyes remaining closed. "What if...what if they're.....not gay?" Raeth finally managed to say.
For a while all Shadow could do was sit there thinking for a few minutes, thinking of the best answer he could give. Then, finally, he said, "There is always some risk in life, and I say you should take some risks. Since you might hate yourself afterwards if you didn't take the risk for fear of failure." he whispered softly.
The wolfs words of which seemed to make the dragon nod slowly as he contemplated the wolfs words. Though as the two sat there, Shadow noticed that Raeth's cheeks were starting to take on a rather redish tinge. 'Is he blushing?' he thought quietly, right before Raeth said. "and, what if that person.....that I really liked. What if that person.......was you?" Raeth whispered softly, before slowly opening his amber eyes to look over into Shadow's greysilver ones.
The black/white dragons words shocking Shadow a great deal as he stared at Raeth, his eyes going wide. 'no way.......another guy has a crush on me?......but......I'm not gay........right?' he thought to himself. Yet, he could still feel that strange sensation deep within his chest. A sensation he knew he hadn't sensed before, yet, at the same time, he could almost say that it could be a crush. And as he sat there contemplating how he felt, he heard another voice within his mind saying, 'and what if you are gay? What if your trying to deny how you feel for another man?' he heard it saying. Which threw him into even more confusion, through which he just heard Raeth saying, "I should get going.......get some sleep" while Raeth started to get up.
And before he knew it, Shadow had reached his paws up and grasped Raeth's shoulders. While he heard himself saying, "no.....don't go....." without his control, virtually out of instinct. Which shocked the wolf even more as he watched Raeth glance at him before nodding slowly and retaking his seat. So for a few more moments the two sat there as the wolf tried to recollect himself, closing his eyes as he battled the emotions waging through himself from within. Then, with a soft, steady sigh, he opened his eyes to look forth into Raeth's warm, tender amber eyes. 'Strange......I've....never noticed.....just how.......cute he is.....' he thought to himself.
While the black wolfs paw slowly moved from Raeth's shoulder to tenderly caress over the dragon's cheek slowly. The touch of which brought a soft murr of happiness from the dragon, prompting the wolf's black lips to shift into a soft, warm smile. "I don't know how to feel right now......but......I want to figure myself out.......tonight....." he whispered softly, his words beckoned from deep within himself without a single thought.
To which Raeth nodded slowly with an ever growing smile, the dragon's worries seeming to have vanished in an instant the wolf had touched his cheeks tenderly. "I'd.....be honored....to help you discover yourself....." Raeth whispered softly, while slowly scooting closer to the wolf.
Shadow soon felt Raeth's warm form pressing up against his, the tender touch of the dragon's paw to his cheek eliciting a soft shiver and murr from him. The very touch sending the wolf's heart pounding in his chest. 'wow.....just the touch of his paw......is making me excited?.....' he thought to himself in surprise. While he kept smiling softly, staring forth into the dragon's tender eyes as he kept rubbing over Raeth's cheek, feeling his cheek being stroked in return.
Then, the next thing he knew, his lips were locked with Raeth's. Eyes closing slowly while the tender, passionate touch of the dragon's lips against his was relaxing him more then the hottest of steam baths ever could. Seeming to virtually melt in the passionate kiss as he scooted closer to the dragon. Slowly wrapping his arms around the dragon's neck tenderly, one paw moving up to caress along the back of Raeth's head. His other paw shifting to drape over the dragon's shoulder as he leaned into the kiss. While he felt the dragon's arms slowly, protectively wrapping around his sides, holding him closer to the dragon in a warm, affectionate embrace. Then he felt Raeth's lips parting a bit, a soft, warm appendage rubbing up against his own lips. Which he happily parted, reaching his own tongue forth to wrap and stroke tenderly along the dragon's. While they both lingered in the tender kiss, tongues wrestling with one another, their forms pressed up against each others, time slipping away without a care in the world.
After some time had passed, they slowly, tenderly broke the kiss, leaning back and opening their eyes to gaze into each others. While their muzzles were lit up with bright, warm smiles as they rested within each others tender embrace.
Soon he heard Raeth giving off a soft, seductive growl of want and desire. To which he murred with a sly, playful wink in return. His paw shifting from around the dragon's shoulder to slowly, tenderly rub over Raeth's clothed chest. Causing the dragon to shiver softly in desire, Raeth's amber eyes gazing forth into Shadow's eyes. "mmmm......these clothes......are confining....." Raeth whispered softly. To which he could but nod in agreement, easing his other paw from behind Raeth's head to slowly start undoing the front of the dragon's uniform. Slowly undoing the buttons, until he had the shirt unbuttoned, slipping it off of the dragon's shoulders and arms. Tossing the bit of clothing off to the side as his gaze slowly looked over the dragon's toned pecs and abs. Smiling even more as he tenderly stroked over the warm, bare scales. Earning yet another soft, passionate murr from the dragon. The very sound making the wolfs heart race faster and faster.
His chest virtually hammering as Raeth's paws shifted from around the wolf to start undoing the front of his uniform. The wolfs paw resting upon Raeth's chest, feeling the fast, excited pace of the dragon's heart beneath his scales. Moving his paws from the dragon's chest only to slip his arms from the sleeves of his uniform. Until his upper body was completely exposed to the dragon, who could only purr in approval upon seeing the wolf's toned form as well. Causing Shadow to giggle softly while he smiled even more in happiness. Shivering slightly with a deeper murr when he felt the dragon's paws settling down upon the waist of his pants. While the dragon slowly leaned forward against him, gently easing the wolf backwards until he was laying upon his back. His gaze looking up into the dragons eyes as Raeth leaned over him. "mmmm......I think we need to remove these....." Raeth growled softly in anticipation while smiling that sweet, seductive smile of his.
Making Shadow murr even more while he could do nothing but nod slowly in agreement. His murrs deepening even more as Raeth's paws went to work of slowly undoing the front of his pants. Lifting his hips upwards just enough so that Raeth could ease the waist of his pants down from around his slender hips. Smiling as he soon felt the last of his pants sliding down off around his footpaws, before his pants were tossed off to the side carelessly atop of his shirt. The wolf now laying completely naked before the sweet dragon, whose gaze slowly slid across the wolfs form. Admiring the countours of the males muscles and curves, to which Raeth purred in approval.
The very sound making the black wolf's cheeks darken out of shyness, yet he kept smiling and murring as he gazed up into Raeth's eyes. While Shadow's paws reached up to grasp at the front of Raeth's pants, slowly working the belt buckle open. Teasing the length of belt through the buckle, before sliding his paws down to start drawing the dragon's pants button and zipper open slowly. His greysilver eyes never leaving Raeth's amber eyes all the while. As the very air of the room slowly took on the strong scent of male arousal as the two males gazed forth into each others eyes wantingly.
Once he had Raeth's pants undone, the black wolfs paw slowly eased up to grasp the sides of the dragon's pants. Sliding them down along Raeth's scaled thighs and legs slowly while the wolf's bushy tail swayed back and forth beneath himself. Stirring up a small cloud of dust beneath the duo as the dragon's pants slid down until they were around his shins.
At that point Raeth shifted a bit, kicking his legs a bit to work the rest of his pants off. Never taking his eyes from the wolf's tender, soul piercing gaze. While Shadow's paw shifted to slowly squeeze at the dragon's sides softly as he murred deeper. His sensitive nose picking up the much stronger scent of the dragon's arousal now that Raeth was naked atop of him.
While they kept gazing forth into each others eyes tenderly, then, slowly, Raeth started to lower his head down towards Shadow's. The black wolf tilting his head slightly until their lips touched together, locking in a deep, passionate kiss that sparked flames of passion deep within their souls. Their eyes closing slowly as they murred ever deeper, Shadow's paws reaching up to loop around Raeth's neck tenderly. While he felt Raeth's paws shifting to squeeze and stroke along his furred sides. Eliciting a happy shiver from him as he lingered within the tender kiss. Then he felt Raeth's warm, tender tongue teasing along his lips, to which he responded by parting his lips slowly. Reaching his tongue forth to dance and caress along Raeth's tongue tenderly.
Both of their worlds lost now to the tender, warm touches of each others bodies pressed against theirs. Their tongues dancing and weaving within their muzzles, while their paws caressed and kneaded over each others forms. Keeping their lips locked together for what felt like eternity, until they had to draw their heads back. Chests heaving with their muzzles parted as they panted breathlessly, eyes gazing forth into each others. ".....wow......" was all the black wolf could say. Eliciting a soft, breathless chuckle from Raeth as he nodded his agreement.
Then their lips were reaching forth to lock once more, tongues diving forth into the others muzzle to resume their tender, affectionate dancing. While Shadow's paws shifted from around Raeth's neck to slowly stroke along the dragon's muscled, scaled back slowly, firmly. To which he felt Raeth's male slit swelling out against his already bulging sheath. Each breath he drew in filling his nostrils with the powerful scent of masculine lust. Clouding his mind as he lost himself deeper and deeper within the kiss. His hips slowly starting to grind up against Raeth's groin softly, yet firmly. To which the dragon responded by grinding down against his. Their erections slowly inching their way forth from their hiding places to rub and tease against each other.
The very feel of their cocks pressing against each others earning a soft gasp of pleasure from the wolf and dragon. Eyes remaining closed as they broke the kiss once more, chests heaving as they kept panting as the sheer excitement of being pressed close to one another filled their bodies with a burning desire. Driving the duo to keep grinding up against each other, their erections growing harder and ever more erect.
"ohhh gods......I want you in me....." Shadow finally whispered while keeping his eyes closed, his muzzle lowering to rest upon Raeth's shoulder tenderly. Still panting as he felt Raeth's muzzle rubbing along his neck, only to feel the dragon's teeth nibbling and grazing over the skin of his neck. Earning a soft, passionate moan from the wolf's throat, eyes clenching slightly as his paws squeezed at Raeth's back. The wolfs legs slowly spreading open while Raeth eased himself down between them. The hard, thick tip of the dragons cock teasing down along Shadow's wolfen length, causing him to shiver with a soft, needy moan at the tender sensation.
Chest rising and falling as the slick, hard tip teasing over his sac as it made its way down towards his flexing pink pucker. Paws squeezing at Raeth's sides tightly while he felt the dragon panting just as needingly as him, if not even more needy. Then he felt the hard, slick tip of the dragon's length teasing against his tight tailhole, the black wolf's paws squeezing at Raeth's back even more tightly. Keeping his muzzle buried against the smooth, warm scales of Raeth's shoulder, his head tilted to the side slightly as his neck was nibbled along.
"You ready?....." he heard Raeth whisper into his ear softly, to which he could only nod, wrapping his legs up around the dragon's hips gently. While that hard, warm tip was pressed up against his tailhole snugly, anxiously waiting to slide into his tight rump.
Then he grunted deeply when Raeth thrusted forwards firmly, shoving a few inches of his thick length deep within his tight tailhole. Eyes closed while he groaned deeply, paws clenching even tighter at Raeth's back tightly while his hot pucker squeezed hotly about Raeth's cock. Ears cocking slightly as he heard Raeth's gasp and moan of pleasure. Shadow's eyes remaining tightly clenched at the pain of being so widely stretched about Raeth's hot, thick length buried partway within him. While the tight ring of his tailhole clenched and squeezed hotly about the dragon's pulsing cock. "Damn.......your thick" he couldn't help but grunt out while squeezing reflexively about the dragons hot cock.
"Ugnnnn.....and your damned tight." he heard being whispered into his ear with a soft moan. "Just relax.....it'll make it easier for us....." Raeth whispered into his ear, while Shadow could do nothing but nod slowly. Chest and throat reverberating lightly while he kept moaning in a mixture of pain and pleasure, while he did his best to relax himself as much as he could.
As he was relaxing, he felt Raeth gently thrust forwards once again, pushing more of his cock into his hot, tight anus. The hot, silky soft passage rippling and caressing over the length of the dragon's cock while he panted in pleasure. The digits of his paws pressing firmly into the smooth scales along Raeth's back, ears cocked slightly as he listened to the dragon's groans of pleasure. Eyes remaining closed as he felt the dragon's paws squeezing tightly at his hips out of reflex. Before he was rocked forwards a bit more as the dragon thrust into his hot depths again, finally hilting himself within the wolf's tight tailhole. At which point Raeth paused while panting in pleasure, giving Shadow a few minutes to get used to the large, pulsing length buried deep within his tight tailhole.
After a few moments, he felt the dragon cock within his tight tailhole pull back halfway, before shoving right back in up to the hilt. Causing the wolf to groan in pleasure, his tight rump clenching around the pulsing cock. Eyes remaining closed in bliss as he started to rock a bit as Raeth slowly, steadily thrusted into his hot depths. The sharp pain he experienced when he was penetrated slowly fading to be replaced by undescribable pleasures as he was taken. While each thrust that the dragon made caused his hard, pink wolf length to grind and rub along Raeth's smooth belly scales in response.
Earning another moan of pleasure from him as he gently humped up against Raeth's belly scales in response. While flexing and clenching about the dragon's cock as it glided and thrusted in and out of his hot depths faster and harder. His muzzle remaining parted as he panted in pleasure, before suddenly finding the dragon's muzzle wrapping around his mouth. The dragon's tongue delving forth into his muzzle as he was drawn into a deep kiss once again. Making him breath deeply through his nose while moaning softly, legs squeezing a bit tighter about the dragon's hips as Raeth kept thrusting harder and faster into him.
Both of their chests rising and falling faster and faster as he kept gently pumping up against Raeth's smooth scaled belly while repeatedly clenching and relaxing about the thick, veined dragon cock pumping in and out of his tight tailhole. While their muzzles remained locked about each others as they shared the deep kiss, heightened by the euphoria of their mating.
Then, the kiss was broken as Raeth leaned his head back with a sharp roar of pleasure as he shot his hot, creamy dragon seed deep into the wolf's tight tailhole. The very feel of hot, creamy seed filling and warming up his insides sending Shadow over the edge as he tilted his head back. Howling out his orgasm as he shot his load of wolf seed upon his and Raeth's belly and chest. Coating and covering both of their bellies and chests in his thick seed.
Both of their howls of pleasure slowly dying down, until he felt Raeth laying ontop of him panting from his pleasureable exertion. "ohhhh......that was great Raeth." Shadow whispered softly in pleasure, softly flexing around the dragons cock teasingly. Rewarding him with the soft gasp of pleasure from the dragon as his sensitive cock was squeezed by the hot, cum coated walls of the wolfs anus. "ohhh.....I very much agree." Raeth whispered softly while he stared up into the dragon's eyes with a smile. Wagging his tail lightly as he watched the dragon smiling down at him from above.
Though as their euphoria died down, it was being replaced with exhaustion from the long, adrenaline filled day and the pleasure filled night. Shadow and Raeth's eyes slowly starting to flutter as they felt themselves slowly succumbing to their exhaustion. The black wolf's eyes closing slowly while he felt Raeth laying atop of him, the dragons cock still buried deep within his tailhole.
Soon enough, he could feel and hear Raeth's soft, steady breathing as the dragon slumbered atop of him. Making the black wolf smile softly while he managed to reach out to grab his blanket. Pulling it up to spread it over him and Raeth, before he closed his eyes to let sleep take him as well. All worries of what the next day in the long war would bring them.....
