The Dead and the Desmodontinae
This story is about a vampire and a vampire bat. It was supposed to be finished by April 15th in honor of the SubGenius Feast of Saint Dracula, but it took me an extra month to finish writing it. Oh well.
BTW, as you're likely to wonder about this, the character Diaemea's mode of speech is unusual because I decided to pepper in some slang from regions where her species of bat is common. See the glossary at the end of the story for translations.
Petru stewed in the tower of his castle. That ridiculous wizard in the swamp had spoiled his fun for the third time in as many weeks. It had been all he could do to feed enough to regenerate the skin that had sloughed off his face and neck after their first encounter, when the old man had lured him into he sunlight.
Petru decided that his next attack would be against something the wizard held dear. Long ago, before their conflict had started, The wizard had enchanted a bat to act as his familiar (a poor choice of species in retrospect), and Petru had lusted after her ever since he first encountered her. angrily, Petru decided that he would take her as his. Having made a decision as to his next move, Petru descended the stairs to the windowless basement crypt and retired to his coffin to wait out the day.
Night fell; Petru rose. Ascending to the tallest tower, he lept from the window, assuming the form of a bat in mid leap. He soared off into the forest where he knew his quarry would be feeding.
The fact that the wizard's familiar was rather small, barely 80 millimeters tall, had not helped his search. After half a night of searching, Petru finally located her clinging to a treebranch in the forest, drinking up blood of a small dove asleep above her on the top of the branch. He approached her, trying to pass as a normal bat and succeeded in a way; She bared her fangs and screeched at him as if he were trying to poach her dove. Abandoning subtlety, he swooped directly at her
"A'A! Ease up!" the familiar shouted, dodging out of the way, "Typical, I jook up a little birdie, and immediately some pissant bloodsucker waltzes in and tries to raff it!"
Petru lit on the branch and clambered towards the little female
"Hey! Back back!" she shouted, then bared her fangs and screeched at him again. When Petru continued to approach her, she opened her mouth and spat a stream of foul, skunk-like fluid at him
"Ugh! That's vampin'..." she said.
"I assume that means pungent?"
"Aaaugh!" screamed the familiar, realizing that this was not a natural bat, "You... you're that undead bad john who's been meddling with the villiagers
"Oh dear Diaema..." Petru chuckled "I've been meddling? The way I remember it, you and that ridiculous sorceror showed up and began meddling in MY affairs"
"The obeah man isn't a maco, he's just the only one who isn't too afraid to do anything"
"Oh how unusual, a self-righeteous haiduc..."
"Look, I'm getting fedupsy with this, what do you want?"
"I want you."
"And turn me into some kind of Soucouyant? When hens have teeth!"
"Eventually, but right now vant your body..."
"Do you think I'm some kind of jagabat!? I'm not in season! It's not even the right time of year! And even if it was I certainly wouldn't fuck a jumbie like you!" Diaema lept from the tree branch and began to fly away, but found herself unable to travel more than two or three feet away from Petru
"I believe that you'll find that you ARE in season..." said Petru
Sure enough, she felt her body prepare itself for mating all at once; changes that normally took place over a number of days were happening in an instant.
"What did you do!?"
"I have many great powers over creatures of the night, observe"
As Petru spoke Diaemea found herself being drawn towards him, she beat her wings harder and faster, straining with the effort, but still she was pulled closer
"It's no use Diamea, I have total control over you"
"Stop makin' style. You can move a little bat around. Your mastery of mediocre spells is truly awe-inspiring..."
"I have control over more than just your body," countered Petru, "I can influence your mind"
"That's a buch of robber talk too. I'm not mama poule like the folks you might be used to dealing with! I'm... just... a little... toutoulbay..."
Diaemea crawled along the branch toward the nosferatu, a lovestruck look in her eyes, "I... I love you, Petru..."
Petru wrapped his wings around the entranced familiar and nipped her lightly on the back, "and now I WILL have you as my mate"
"Yes Petru..." squeaked Diaemea as Petru slowly slid his penis all the way into her vaginal canal until his sperical balls were pressed up against her body.
He drew himself out and thrust back in again, slowly working up a steady rythm.
"Yes Petru... Keep going..." the familiar's entranced state left her gasps of pleasure somewhat less than enthusiastic, so Petru decided to release her mind.
"W'happen?..." as the fog in her mind lifted Diaemea began to struggle to extract herself from Petru's embrace, but found herself unable to overcome the unnatural strength of his grip.
"How is it?" asked Petru.
Diaemea was close to incoherence with rage, fear and embarassment, "You put the mal yeux on me and raped me you bastard!" She punctuated this exclamation with a series of angry sceeches and shrieks.
"I did no such thing!" said Petru, licking Diaemea's neck, "Under my spell you practically begged me to be your lover."
Diaemea just sobbed and screeched and struggled, her attempts to extracate herself only seeming to encourage her captor as Petru continued to pound away at her and occasionally lick her neck until finally he reached his orgasm, spilling his inert seed purposelessly into Diamea's bountiful young womb.
As his climax ebbed, Petru bit into Diaemea's neck, puncturing her jugular vein. Diaemea shrieked briefly, but fell back under Petru's spell as he lapped up the blood that poured from the wound.
"Petru, I don't feel so well" groaned Diaemea, "I feel all qualey..."
"You have not eaten. Feed."
Petru gently turned Diaemea over and kissed her. As he did, he spat some of the blood which he had just drank into Diamea's mouth. Diaemea gratefully swallowed the regurgitated blood, but didn't feel any better, just strange.
Diaemea flew with Petru back to his castle, and passed out, her breathing became strained and eventually stopped. Petru, now in human form again, laid her in a small pine box, and the following night the lord of the night AND his new consort descended upon the village to prey on its people.
The End.

Notes:
This story was originally intended to be competed and posted by April 15 2012, for the SubGenius Feast Of Saint Dracula, but obviously it took me longer than expected.
A large amount of research went into writing this story. Over the course of writing it I pored through a list of common Romanian names, a dictionary of Trinidadian slang, several wikipedia articles on bats, as well as a scholarly article on bats by Arthur M. Greenhall and William A. Schutt.
Diamea (the wizard's familiar) speaks using a lot of Trinidadian slang. I decided to have her talk like this after reading the Wikipedia article on white winged vampire bats and noting that their habitat range didn't extend into any part of Europe or the Old World in general, which gave me the idea of giving her a pointedly non-Romanian accent, I then further noted that of their actual habitat range Trinidad was noteworthy in being an English speaking country; following up on that lead, a glance through an online dictionary of Trinidadian slang (http://www.amazing-trinidad-vacations.com/trinidad-and-tobago-dictionary.html) turned up several terms that had obvious wordplay potential in the context of my story ("Jagabat", "Vampin'", etc), which was what clinched it.
The refrence to the flesh sloughing off of Petru's body when exposed to sunlight is an attempt to rectify older vampire stories and legends (including the original version of "Dracula") in which sunlight has little or no negative effect on vampires, with modern vampire lore in which sunlight destroys them outright, without resorting to something excessively and unnecessarily flamboyant (you know what I'm talking about (the Twilight novels) ). Flesh sloughing off of the exposed areas was chosen under the rationale of being an extremely exaggerated version of what happens to normal humans in sunlight: after prolonged exposure the outer layer of the epidermis begins to peel off.
Diaemea's name is derived from "diaemus" the genus name of the white-winged vampire bat.
Petru spitting blood into Diaemea's mouth is a refrence to two things. Firstly, bats really do share blood by regurgitating it. Secondly, it refrences (in a distorted fashion) a plot element from Bram Stoker's world renowned vampire novel "Dracula", in which to turn their victim into a vampire, a vampire not only needed to drink their victim's blood, but also to make the victim partake of their blood.
The end of the story makes the assumption that a vampire bat could be turned into a vampire as easily as a human (and implicitly, in the last sentence, that this would give them the ability to take on human form).
