Kole the Growlithe and Amber the Vulpix have been close friends for a long as they can remember. As, children they were always begging their parents to go, and share dinner, or play unlimited games of hide-and-go-seek in the forest, where they lived. As they grew older, they knew they shared some kind of love, but they just never made the transition from friends to mates.
Things just seemed too, awkward. Sure they were with each other all the time, but that really didn't mean much did it? That was the problem, she didn't know. Amber thought about these things a lot. Wondered what it would be like to be actual mates with him, and certainly liked the idea, a bit. Except for the actual mating part of course, not being completely educated in the subject, the idea scared her.
Kole knew that one day they would be together. He wanted it more than anything, actually and couldn't stop himself from thinking about it. The problem is he didn't know when. After thinking about it for a while, he decided it better happen soon, or else time might take her away.

"You know Amber I think I really love you." Thinking he was just playing around she answered,

"We already are always together." She answered.

Saddened by the Growlithe's look she answered "No, you misunderstand me. I do like you, well like that, you know." Blushing a little, she continued. "I just never thought about, well that."
"You never thought?" He answered in disbelief.
"Alright, so I have, but aren't you scared? What if this isn't real love? What happens if we go and do, well that, and It's all for nothing, or a lie or something?"
"I think you worry too much, if you didn't love me, you wouldn't be still here." He pointed up and the beautiful sunset in front of them, marking that they had been together the entire day. She looked up at it for a second, then looked back at him.
"Alright, the truth is I want to, but I'm scared, scared of the idea, and scared of the fact the maybe this is all just, lust."
Growlithe giggled. "If this relationship is all just lust we would definitely be fucking by now" She hit him. "Ow, alright, okay I can see why you could be a little scared, but don't you trust me?"
"Yes, of course. You more than anyone."
"Then let's go." He got up and used his head to push her up and began dragging her away.
"Wait. Right now? I don't know if now is the time." He turned around and looked deep into her eyes.
"You want to do this, right?"
"Yes."
"Really bad?"
"Yes, really bad."
"So, if you let fear put it off till tomorrow, won't you regret not doing it? Trust me; the longer to let fear get in your way, the harder it will be to do it. Then you'll really regret it. I don't want you feeling like that."
"I guess your right."
She went with him, thinking about all that was going on, and none of it seemed real, like she was living in a dream. She felt light headed, and very nervous, but she was putting her trust into someone who had never really let her down before. It was her shred of comfort.
It was getting dark now; you could see stars in the sky. The moon was full and near the horizon so it glowed a bright orange colour. The air was cooling down fast, and she couldn't help but shiver, but from nervousness or the cold she couldn't tell.
They made their way down a big hill in the forest, where the trees grew thick. She knew in the back of her mind that no one would disturb them here, but it didn't stop her from looking around to make sure no one was there.
"Well, here we are." Kole said turning around to look into Amber's eyes. She began to have sudden doubts. Wasn't it supposed to be natural? Isn't this just supposed to happen by itself? Can you really go out of your way to force it? The feeling of fear begin to rise from the bottom of her stomach, as she came to realize that she didn't exactly know what to do, or say.
"Yes, here we are I guess" She looked down fast, she knew she was blushing. Smelling fear overcome his new mate he stepped closer and gave her a reassuring hug.
Amber let out the breath she was holding in. She really liked the feeling of him holding her like this, so that must mean true love right? Well, the thought calmed her down, so she kept repeating it in her mind. She almost wished they could just stand there and hug forever, but he broke the hug after a few minuets, and took two or three steps back. He stared at her for a moment with his head turned to the side.
"You know, we don't have to do this if you're not ready." He shouldn't have said that. Now it was a challenge.
"Of course I'm ready." She leaned forward and licked his cheek thinking that it was a step in the right direction. His face turned into a grin, that she had never seen him make before.
"Alright then."
He moved so his face was as close as possible to hers, keeping the same smile on. She looked into his eyes for a moment, and they seemed to glow. Maybe it was just the moonlight. He put his paw up on her back, right below her neck, and to her surprise shoved her over. Rolling her over so she was lying on her back, he gave her crotch one long lick.
