#1 of War on Tamriel: Oblivion (Dragon)

Prologue:

At the end of third age of Tamriel, in the year of 433 a string of assassinations began in the province of Cyrodiil at the Imperial City. The victems were Uriel Septim VII's known heirs. Now the empire is on high alert for the assassins. The assassins were thought to be the Dark Brotherhood at first, but this theory was later trashed. Now many believe that these attacks may be the beginning of something darker...

Chapter 1: Dragon

Hungry, tired and out of breath; Dragon, rested at a nearby abandoned camp. The snow seemed to be endless in the morning. As an argonian, Dragon was used to the usual weather in Vvardenfell, which was mostly rain or no rain at all. Shivering, Dragon huddled up in the tent. Knowing that he would surely die if there was no fire he quickly breathed fire onto the burn-out campfire. Fortunely the fire was good enough for atleast a few hours. He sat near the fire, huddled a bit but still shaking. As the fire kept consuming what was left of the dead wood, the argonian's features shown brightly. His scales were red but, turned into a lighter orange color as it neared his chest. The reddish color was more darker at his shoulders. Green marks on his face also signified his youngness. Legs, arms, abdomen, and his chest showed his strength as well as masculinity. On the top of his head he had a small fin stretching from the top all the way to the back. His face was truely reptilian. A large scar from his left breast all the way to his abdomen, showed a piece of history within him. Dragon grabbed his tail and put it on his mouth, sucking on it a bit as it was so cold.

After atleast a few hours, of freezing cold, and shivering nap Dragon decided to make forward west to the Imperial City. According to the map he bought back in Balmora, he was in a mountain range called the Valus Mountains. If he kept heading west he would reach Cheydinhal, an apparent town mostly populated with dark elfs and orc thugs. He decided to avoid that place in case if those Indoril guards had sent word to the town. Or even worse the Morag Tong could be on his tracks. Quickly he traveled while their was still daylight, climbing down the mountain. It was two hours later until he reached the bottom. Taking about five hours on foot, he reached the Imperial City only he was too late. House Indoril had already sent word that a certain argonian could be heading for the Imperial City. As soon as Dragon saw the guards at the gate recognize him from the description in the message he ran. However a enchanted silver arrow one of the archers fired hit Dragon's arm. He instantly felt a wave of fatigue and fell to the ground unconscious.

Dragon woke up dazed, in a small dimly lit room. After coming to his senses, Dragon looked around and realized that he was in the City dungeons. He sobbed in his cell, knowing that he would be in here for quite some time, unless someone paid his bail which was impossible. Maybe I shouldn't have freed all those slaves from the Dren Plantation and Sadrith Mora, Dragon thought. Opposite from his cell was another prisioner, this one was a dunmer or dark elf. He was old judging by his gray hair and small wrinkles at his eyes. His nose was a bit pointed and slightly crooked. Eyes bloodshot, like all dunmer. In a mocking voice he said ''Hey, lizard! It must break your heart, huh? Being so close to the water, knowing you'll never get to swim again... You know, sometimes, when they let us in the yard, you can hear the sounds from the lake. The boats, the gulls. So close... No, you'll never get to swim again, Argonian. But don't worry, you'll be dead soon enough. That's right. You're going to die in here!'' Angry at his taunts and frustrated at his capture, Dragon quickly grabbed a fork on the small wooden table nearby and quickly threw it to the dunmer's direction. It was fast, missing the elf's torso by only a few centimeters and stuck itself in the wall. The dunmer then fell silent and went back into his corner, fearing that he may incur more of the argonian's wrath.

Dragon then heard the sounds of steel boots walking down into the cell area. He soon heard talking, ''My sons are dead arn't they...''

''We don't know that sire the messenger only said that they were attacked.''

''No they're dead I know it.'' The footsteps apparently came from a group of four imperials and a redguard. One of them was an elderly man who wore a greatly decorated robe colored with purple and glittered with gold things. One thing caught Dragon's eye was the amulet the man wore, it was a red diamond with gold surronding it. In the gold were small colored gems. The other three people that surrrounded the man wore some sort of Akaviri armor imitation. There was a Redguard, the brown skinned people and two Imperials, one male the other female. ''What's this prisioner doing here? This cell is suppose to be off limits!'' Said the female of the group.

Nervously one of the men responded. ''Uh...Forgive me Captain, usual mix up with those idoit jailers, I...''

''Nevermind... get that gate open, and just ignore the prisnoner, if he does anything strange kill him...'' Dragon went into the corner near the barred window, so that he wouldn't get in the way of them.

The guard opened the cell door and the group walked in. They came up to the cell bed's wall and the female captain pushed some sort of switch, activating a secret door. ''Stay here lizard, and no harm will come to you.'' Said one of the Imperial men. But before they headed into the secret door, the man in the robe looked at Dragon with a state of surprise.

''You are the one from my dreams... then the stars were right, this is the day... gods give me strength.'' Stated the man.

''Um.. okay... look I don't want any trouble so I'll just stay in my cell. Please just leave me I want to be alone.'' Dragon responded.

''No, you must come with us, your destiny is intwined with the fate of the empire and Tamriel. Renault, allow this argonian prisoner to come with us, thats an order.''

''What? You can't be serious sire...'' The female said.

''It's an order captain, you heard it straight from the emperor himself.'' Explained the Redguard behind her.

''Very well... but if you do anything that will threaten the emperor's life I will make you into a pair of boots, argonian.'' The emperor?! Uriel Septim VII?! Thought Dragon. He had heard of him before in his homeland of Argonia and in Morrowind but never seen him in the flesh. Strange that the emperor of Tamriel had allowed an argonian to accompany him.

Dragon followed behind the group, through the secret tunnel. Though he had no knowledge what was happening but he knew it was serious. The tunnels were part of some sort of ancient ruins that were Imperial made long ago. After what seemed to be hours, they came to a stop at some old pillars. ''Hang on a second I don't like this, let me take a look.'' Renault scouted ahead at the pillars. ''Seems clear enough, come on we're almost through to the...'' Before the Imperial female could finish her sentence, a man came up from behind her and slit her throat.

''RENAULT!'' Cried the other Imperial. Suddenly 3 other assassins robed in red and metal armor appeared.

''Prisoner catch!'' Yelled the redguard as he threw a steel shortsword to Dragon. Dragon grabbed the sword with ease.

The guards and Dragon enaged the assassins while the emperor stayed back. Dragon thrust his sword at one of the assassins, but he quickly dodged it and used his sword to try to cut Dragon's arm. He dodged it as well. Using quick reflexes the argonian slashed the man's arm, and while he recoiled in pain, Dragon stabbed the assassin in the heart ending the fight. The Imperial and Redguard had no trouble at all with the attackers as well. The Redguard bashed his opponent's head with his shield, and while the man backed away in a daze the Redguard stabbed the man in the neck, blood spewing from it. The Imperial was just finishing his fight as he slashed at the man's face deeply, killing him in an instant. ''Nice job Glenroy, these assassins are pathetic.'' Complied the Redguard.

''You too Baurus, though I wish I could say the same to Renault... Damn! if only I responded quickly enough!'' Responded the Imperial.

''It's alright my friend, we'll avenge her death later.'' Baurus said.

''We have to keep moving sire come on.'' Glenroy said in a sorrowful voice.

The group came to a dead end as they entered an empty room. Sounds of metal boots could be heard from behind them. ''Damn it, they're behind us, wait here sire. Prisoner protect him with your life.'' Commanded Glenroy. Baurus and Glenroy headed out to face the assassins.

''Hmm... I wonder, which star were you born under?'' Said Uriel.

''Um.. don't you think it's a little too late for a chat right now?'' Replied Dragon.

''Please tell me...'' Seeing as there was no choice since Dragon didn't want to insult the emperor, he told him.

''I was born under a special star... the Dragon...''

''Incredible, only a select few have been ever born under that star. With what I've seen I believe I can entrust you with this...'' Uriel handed Dragon his amulet, the amulet of kings.

''What?! Your handing me the amulet of kings?!''

''There is no time to explain it all, the prince of destruction and his mortal servants must not have the amulet of kings! You must go to Chorrol; find and give the amulet to Jauffre, he alone knows where to find my last son... Find him and close shut the jaws of Oblivion...''

''Wait! explain more, I don't understand!'' But before the emperor replied to Dragon's question, a door opened in the wall and a red robed assassin quickly came in and stabbed the emperor through the heart. Uriel's body fell lifeless onto the floor. As soon as he was done, the assassin's gaze was fixed upon the amulet of kings in Dragon's hands. ''GIVE IT TO ME!'' The assassin charged at Dragon. The argonian quickly swung his sword in defense, slashing the assassin's chest. But it wasn't enough, only making the assassin recoil a bit. Yet again he tried again to take the amulet by force. This time Dragon made sure it was fatal. In an instant Dragon hit the assassin's shoulder with the steel blade, but then forcefully, dragged the sword along the man's shoulder and into the neck. He withdrew the sword quickly. ''You will never stop lord Dagon...'' Those were his last words as he fell to the ground lifeless, his blood spilling from the neck.

Dragon worried, went over to the fallen emperor, trying to revive him using some restoration spells he learned from Morrowind. It was no use, he was dead and the amulet's burden placed on Dragon. ''What happened!'' Baurus came in, bloodied. Glenroy wasn't there, Dragon guessed that he was probably killed.

''I'm sorry... I just... I just couldn't do anything...'' Dragon weeped as he felt the emperor's death was his fault. Baurus sat next to the emperor's body.

''May the Talos guide his soul to Aetherius... Wait wheres the amulet! The amulet of kings! It's not on the emperor's body!''

''He gave it to me. He wanted to have the amulet delivered to someone named Jauffre.'' Dragon replied.

''Strange... I may never understand why the emperor trusted you, but I believe it's a good reason. Jauffre is the grandmaster of my order, the Blades. All the empire's spies and elite warriors are in it. He lives in a priory at Chorrol's eastern gate. You'll probably find it a little northwest of the city. Just follow the signs when you exit the Imperial city through the gates. But you'll need to get to the sewers. The entrance to it is just through that wall the assassin was in. Once in the sewers find the exit. I don't know how much the sewers have changed the last I came here but I'm sure the exit isn't far from here.''

''Alright, but what about you?'' Dragon questioned.

''I'll stay here to make sure no one's on your tail, also I'll have to carry the emperor's body to the palace so that he may be buried amongst his fathers before him.''

''I'll be going now. Goodluck Baurus and sorry about your comrades.''

''Don't worry I'll be fine, thanks anyway for showing concern for my fallen allies.'' Dragon exited the ruins through the door, without looking back he begun his quest. Little did he know of the role he would play in Tamriel's history.
