“Urg… where… where am I?” A lone female, Tala, slowly came to, her head lolling back and forth as she woke up. She tried to get to her feet, but her body wasn’t cooperating with her, and it didn’t take too long for her to discover why. “What in the world?” She found herself strapped into a wheelchair, her arms and legs bound to the armrests and foot straps, unable to break the restraints. “Why am I all tied up? What’s going on?”

Tala tried to remember just whatever could have led her to her current situation - the last few hours were a literal blur, not helped with how heavy her head still felt, but she vaguely remembered an affluent man approaching her with an offer of great riches. No-one ever really gave her the time of day, so she didn’t think twice about whether there could be any sinister intentions, and it looked like she was paying the price for being so trustworthy.

“Damn it, Tala, why do you always fall for these things…” She muttered to herself. All her life, it seemed like all people wanted to do was take advantage of her in any way they could, and every time it just led to her getting more and more hurt and distanced from those around her. Really, all she wanted was for one thing to go right.

“Ah, Ms. Amaris, you’re finally awake!” A voice that was familiar to her called out from the doorway. Turning her head to face it, she was the old man slowly walking towards her, hobbling along with the aid of a walking stick. “I do trust my associates weren’t too rough in administering the knock-out treatment?”

“What is it you want?” She asked, once again tugging at her restraints.

“Oh, nothing much. If I recall correctly, you agreed to be the test subject for a little project of mine, in return for a large cash payment, am I right?”

Tala gulped - she had agreed to that, it’s why she was in this predicament.

“And rest assured, I do intend to make good on that promise - that is, of course, if you survive it…” He said with a devious smirk.

“If I SURVIVE it? What kind of thing are you trying to test on me?”

“It’s all very simple, really. Not too long ago, on one of my expeditions, I had unearthed an ancient relic. We haven’t been able to pin the exact year on it, but after doing a bit of studying, we found out that it can bestow godhood upon a target that it deems to be worthy, and that’s where we’ve hit a bump in the road, you see!”

“What kind of bump?” She asked, having a nagging feeling that she knew where this was going.

“A particularly fatal bump. I had attempted to use it on my younger brother to see if it was safe to use, and it left nothing of him barring a pile of smouldering ashes. Naturally, the rest of the family weren’t best pleased about that outcome, and I don’t really want to have to fork out good money to the rest of the family if another sibling dies as a result of this, so I thought ‘what better test subject than some random, insignificant wastrel wandering the streets’?”

Tala’s expression fell when she heard that. “...Wastrel?”

“You see, no-one’s really going to bat an eye if some pitiful nobody vanishes from the city, someone who's never made a name for themselves, someone whose death wouldn’t be seen as a tragedy… lo and behold, you fit the bill for that hands-down!” He chuckled, a pair of figures in suits walking in from another room, carrying a large, stone object between them. “But who knows, maybe if this does turn out to be a bust, I’ll at least spare a few dollars so your ashes can be sent away in an urn, I’m sure there’s someone who’d grieve a gutter-trash like yourself!”

Her eyes narrowed in annoyance. “This is madness! What makes you think you can keep doing this to people?”

“Madness? Hardly! This is a possible ascension that we’re talking about! If a few people have to die along the way before the right person is named, what’s the harm in doing so?”

“You’re literally murdering people for this!”

“Again, better random people than more of my family - it’ll cost me less, too!” He watched the men setting the relic down on top of a stone plinth, aiming it towards Tala. “But hey, if you survive this, you’ll be paid fully for your services!”

“Ghh…” Tala once again tried tugging at her restraints, but couldn’t free herself.

“It’s pointless to resist, just sit back and let it happen. Either way, this will all be over soon!” He chuckled, the eyes on the relic glowing, an ethereal humming filling the room. Moments later, two beams of light fired out from the statue, striking Tala in the chest. For a few seconds, it appeared as if nothing was going to happen, much to her relief.

“So… is that it?” She asked right before her body was suddenly engulfed in flames. “GYAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!”

“Damn it, it looks like we’ve got another failure…” The man sighed. “I guess that’s what happens when you take a random nobody from the street… still, there’s got to be at least one person we can test this on safely before I even think of trying to use it on myself!”

As the flames burned around her, she could hear the man insulting her further. “Gh… ghhh…” Tala couldn’t believe that this was the way that she was going to die, being tricked once again… no, not this time. She was sick and tired of being taken advantage of, being looked over by everyone, being made to think that she was a nobody. Her eyes screwed shut as she suppressed the urge to scream any further, the flames growing more intense.

“Why’s she gone silent?” The man asked, watching as Tala burned.

“I… I am done with being treated like a nobody!” Her eyes opened wide, her blue eyes glowing intensely. “I’m not going to let people like you push me around any more!”

“What in the?” He looked on in confusion, the flames dispersing as quickly as they started. Her clothing had burned away, leaving her nude, but her body was slowly being covered in long, silvery fur that was spreading across her arms and legs, pure white fur working its way along her torso. Tala tugged at her restraints again, and whilst they were relatively unsigned by the flames due to being treated with flame-retardant, they were staining due to the pressure that she was applying to them - that and the fact that she appeared to be slowly growing. “H… has the relic bestowed godhood upon you?”

Tala never answered, still pulling at her restraints. Her arms became slightly broader, her biceps gaining some muscle tone whilst her chest muscles also became similarly ripped, a faint six-pack showing against the silky fur that now coated her front. Her breasts, which had practically been non-existent prior to this, were steadily ballooning in size, growing larger and larger, the fur spreading thicker around them to preserve her modesty. With another tug, the straps around her wrists snapped, arms springing free. Sharp claws sprouted from her fingertips, the palms of her hands gaining soft pads.

“Crap!” The man gulped as Tala nearly fell forwards, legs still bound. She appeared to be noticeably taller than she was beforehand, her body growing larger, taller, broader. She arched her back, stretching herself outwards, oblivious to the room shrinking around her. “Tell me you’ve installed the countermeasures!” He barked at his two assistants.

“They were completed recently, I’m just hoping they’ll hold her as we’ve never tested them on anything!”

“I don’t care, just activate it now!” He spat, the two guards rushing over to one of the many bookcases in the room, pressing a button beside it. Two panels opened up from the ceiling, a pair of metal chains shooting towards Tala’s arms, metal clamps grasping her wrists.

“Gah!” She growled in frustration, pulling at the new restraints whilst she attempted to pull her legs away from the chair. A bump appeared on the base of her spine, worming its way outwards as it grew into a long, elegant looking tail, largely covered in silver fur, barring a thick tuft of white near the bottom, the tip lined with dark blue hair. “Let… go of me!”

“Not a chance! If this really has bestowed godhood on you, I want to find out the full extent of your powers!” He said with a hint of confidence. “And what better way to do so than to ensure you’re fully restrained?”

“Rrgghh!” She kicked her feet against the floor, the legs of the chair breaking away, freeing her own legs. The fur had covered her limbs by this point, her hips and thighs being noticeably larger and wider, her waistline thinner, giving her body a curvy look. She tugged at the chains, the clamps digging into her wrists due to her body still gaining in size.

“Relax, you’re still going to get your payment at the end of all this!” He taunted her, Tala’s tail swaying behind her, fur bristling in anger. Her feet stretched, toes merging into three digits, claws emerging from them, soles puffing outwards and darkening, reforming into plush pads.

“Let… me… go!” She pulled at them again, the chains audibly straining as the bolts that held them to the hidden compartments rattled. Her jaws pushed forwards, nose darkening whilst the fur covered her expanding snout, teeth growing into sharpened fangs. Her ears moved to the top of her head, hair flowing down past her shoulders, star-like sparkles standing out against the dark black coloration. Her eyes shone even brighter as they relocated to the sides of her head.

“All in due time… she’s growing just a little too big, isn’t she?” He mouthed to one of his associates. “Is this meant to be happening?”

“Let… me… GO!!!” She howled, slamming her fists towards the ground, shattering the chains and cuffs around her wrists in the process. The man gasped, falling back on his ass as Tala moved to get back to her feet, pushing herself through the roof of the room in the process.

“P-please, don’t hurt me!” The man spoke in a panicked tone, crawling backwards towards the door. “None of this was my idea, they suggested the extra restraints… hell, they even suggested trying to use this on someone other than family!” He was desperately trying to weasel his way out of the situation he had put himself in.

Tala knelt down on her knees, still slowly growing, trying to keep herself comfortable despite the confined space. “You’re really trying the whole ‘it’s not my fault’ ploy after all of this?” She glared at him. “Literally a few minutes ago you were spouting on about how it doesn’t matter if some rando from the street dies for you to discover if that relic would bestow godhood on someone or not.

“S-spare me, please!” He got down on his hands and knees, grovelling for his life. “I’ll give you whatever you want, money is no issue!”

“You really are pathetic, aren’t you…” She sighed, taking a look around her as her head bumped up against the roof of the house. “I’m not going to kill you, as much as I’d love to just stomp on you right now, but I’m going to take the high road on this one!” She pushed herself back to her feet, taking the roof off of the house in the process. “As for the money, I think you’re going to need it with how much it’ll cost you to get this place all fixed up!”

“Errr…” He looked up at her in confusion, not expecting her to show him any mercy.

“I mean, I COULD stomp you if that makes you feel any better!” She grinned.

“NO, no!” He waved his arms in front of him. “I’ll take your merciful offer!”

“It’s NOT an… ugh, whatever…” Tala rolled her eyes. “I’m gonna take my leave, so if you don’t mind…” She looked up towards the sky, still getting bigger and bigger with each passing second. “You know what, I’m going to take a safety measure here as I don’t want you or your goon squad remembering any of this, sooo…” She extended a hand in front of the house, snapping her claws together. A bright flash enveloped the building and its inhabitants, during which time she took her leave, jumping off into the sky.

“Gah… what was that?” The man blinked, rubbing his eyes as he looked around. “What happened? Why’s the house wrecked?” He turned towards the chair, noticing that it was resting on its side with no-one there. “Damn it, the relic must have disintegrated the person we were testing it on again!”

“Should we find someone else to try it on?”

“I think we should work on calling in someone to repair this mess! I’ll catch my death of cold if I stay in this place!”

“I’ll book you into the nearest hotel that’s got a free room, and in the morning, I’ll put in a call with some contractors. I’d hate to think how much a full-scale repair is going to cost you back, sir…” One of his guards responded.

“It doesn't matter. I’m sure we’ll crack this relic in due time, and then godhood will be all mine!” He laughed.

“Well that was certainly something!” Tala thought to herself, gazing up at the starry sky. Of course, it was easy to do so, considering she had outgrown the earth itself and was floating around in the starry expanse of space. “It’s gonna take that geezer a while to get his house repaired, not to mention it’ll likely cost him a pretty penny to do so, I think that’s punishment enough for making them think that I died from their attempt at using that relic… although maybe I should have destroyed it as well, for all I know, it could have another charge or two in it… ah well, that’s something to worry about another time!”

She rested on her side, turning to look at the Earth - she could easily pick it up in one of her hands, but she didn’t want to risk causing it any damage by doing so. “The amount of times I’ve heard people say that the world’s a big place, and now that I’m looking at it from the outside in… I’m not seeing it.” She smirked, tail wagging behind her. “And as much as I could just spend all night looking down at the Earth, I suppose I should see what I’m capable of with this new form. Pretty sure there’s a whole range of stuff I could do with my newfound powers, but I’d be best trying to test them out on stuff first. I wonder if any of the few friends I had would mind if I paid them a quick visit~” Her smirk pulled into a giant grin as she began scheming.
