Hive-Park Chapter 1
I've been wanting to write something along the lines of sexy bugs building a hive, and now thanks to Lancefree I've got that chance. Todd is an engineer dispatched to Firefly Mountain Park, an amusement park that has sat unused for the past decade. His job is just to inspect and asses the rides in the park pending a future sale. Todd had no idea there was an out of town guest already in the park.
Chapter 1
Todd sat up groggily in his bed and silenced the alarm on his phone. It was dark in his motel room, being so early in the morning. He really wasn't one to get up before sunrise most days, but he needed to be on site early today to get started on his assignment. Todd slowly pulled himself out of bed and drug himself to the bathroom. The shower helped to wake him up and the process was further aided with a cup of in-room coffee. Todd checked his emails for any updates before heading out for the job site.
The sun was up by the time Todd climbed into his work truck. He stopped at a gas station on the way out of town for more coffee and a breakfast sandwich. Todd drove along the rural highway for about fifteen minutes until he saw the sign for Firefly Mountain Park and pulled off.
Firefly Mountain Park had started as a campground back in the nineteen-twenties that slowly evolved into an amusement park by the nineteen-fifties. Victor Friedemann inherited the park from his father in the mid sixties and was the owner and operator of it until his death a decade ago. Unfortunately his estate ended up in a legal debacle, the will being challenged by several parties. This led to the park being shut down not long after his death and it had sat unused for all the years since.
With the legalities having finally been sorted out, the park was to be sold and the proceeds split between the surviving heirs. Todd had been hired as an engineer to inspect the rides in the park and report back which, if any, were still functional. The rides would then either be sold off individually, or added into the value of the purchase price of the land, depending on what the plans were for the future owner.
As Todd drove up the access road he could see the rides coming into view. Following his instructions he drove past the cracked and overgrown parking areas all the way up to the front gate. He saw a SUV painted with the logo of a security company on the side. Todd pulled up close to it before turning off his truck and getting out. As he walked around his car a uniformed security guard got out to meet him.
“Are you Todd?"
“That's me." Todd offered his hand and they shook.
“Nice to meet you, I'm Greg. I've been watching over things here since before the shutdown."
“Really?"
“Oh yeah, used to just be in the off-season when Firefly Mountain was still running. The executors just stuck with us after the shutdown. Real shame too, I'm local and I used to come here. Hell, I had my first date with my wife here." Greg slowly shook his head. “You think it's going to be torn down?"
“No idea, I'm just here to assess the condition of the rides. And even if most are perfectly fine, the new owner might redevelop the land into something else."
The security guard let out a long sigh. “Well, that's out of our hands. Here, let me get the gate open for you and I'll disarm the security system."
“Thanks, I don't need that going off while I'm trying to work, this time."
Greg chuckled as he opened a small door in the gate and quickly shut down the alarm system in the guard shack.
"I've got a set of keys for you. Thankfully they are labeled." Greg handed over a heavy ring full of various keys.
Todd hefted the key ring in his hand. "Wow, that's a lot."
"That is all of them, not just the rides. I didn't think it was worth trying to sort them all and remove the ones you don't need. Just don't steal any t-shirts from the gift shop."
"How tempting." Todd smirked as he attached the heavy ring to a carabiner on his coveralls.
"Alright, I need to head onto the next property on my route. Lock up the gate when you're done for the day. Call me when you're all done and I'll get the keys and re-arm the security system."
"Will it be ok just leaving it off?"
"We haven't had any problems in years, and it would be a pain to come by every night and back in the morning just to type in the code."
"I guess…well, thanks for letting me in, I better get to work."
Todd parted ways with the security guard and made his way into the park. It wasn't the first time he'd visited a shut down park, but that didn't make it any less creepy, especially given that Firefly Mountain was isolated from the world by mountains and forest. Todd made his way to the carousel, as it was the first ride as one entered the park.
The pavilion that housed the classic ride had been shuttered to protect it from the elements. Todd looked through the collection of keys for the correct one and let himself in. After entering the pavilion, He didn't see anything wrong with the ride at a glance apart from a layer of dust. He started to go through a checklist of items to inspect the ride before even attempting to fire it up. It took time, but was especially important given it was an antique. Carousels like this were always in high demand for parks, and it would be a valuable asset even if it wasn't in perfect working order.
After everything had been checked and confirmed, Todd went to the operator station and fired up the ride for a test cycle. First the lights came on the ride, filling the pavilion with a warm light. The music started to play, and although he was not educated musically it sounded alright to his ears. Then he hit a button and the carousel started to turn. There were no odd sounds and it seemed as smooth an operation as one could expect from such an old ride.
Outside of the shuttered carousel pavilion the music and sounds of the test cycle roused another visitor to Firefly Mountain Park. The antennae on the head of the nameless missionary spawn twitched as it came out of its hibernation. After transit it was disoriented and given the lack of any suitable hosts it had entered hibernation to wait and see if any would show up. It now moved closer to the edge of the structure where it had landed post transit. It was easy enough to detect where the sounds were coming from so it sat and waited to see if anything would come out of the musical structure.
After running the ride through a test cycle, Todd finished filling out his notes and shut the ride back down. After locking the pavilion he turned down the midway. The next ride he could see was a simple children's ride consisting of what used to be brightly colored miniature cars on a circular track. Though the ride is generally robust enough to weather an off-season, he was a bit dismayed to see no effort was made to cover the attraction for the decade spent idle. Still, Todd opened the gate and began to inspect the ride.
As he was assessing the drive motor housing, he started to get the eerie feeling he was being watched. Todd turned his head looking over his shoulder but saw nothing that caught his attention. He turned back to start unbolting the cover, but he couldn't shake the feeling. He checked several more times but could see anything other than the empty park.
I really need to stop working in completely empty parks, I think it's starting to get to me.
Todd took a deep breath to steady himself before returning to work. As he had feared, the ride was in no state to run. He sighed and jotted down his notes before closing up the motor housing once more. Todd gathered up his tools and made his way to the next attraction down the midway.
The food stands and gift shops he passed by were all shuttered, the bright signs slightly faded after a decade of the elements. He thought he saw something move out of the corner of his eye. Todd snapped his head up to the roof of the burger stand.
What was that? A bird maybe?
Todd continued to make his way down the midway, but he kept his eyes along the roofline. Eventually he reached the next attraction, a dark ride called The Haunted Mine.
Already I'm spooked and I go to the dark ride next. I'm a glutton for punishment all right…
He unlocked the door and entered the loading bay. Unsurprisingly, it was near pitch black inside. With his flashlight he found the control panel and turned on the service lights. Even with the walls, floor, and ceiling painted flat black, the ride was now fully lit. It did ruin the ambiance, but Todd needed to inspect the cars, track, and the basic animatronics that lined the track. He started by inspecting the track for any damage.
As he followed the track on the floor, Todd didn't notice the head of a nail sticking out from a piece of scenery. It caught on the rear of his overalls and with a loud rip tore a huge tear right over his butt.
“Son of a bitch!" Todd swore as he untangled himself from the nail before it did any more damage. Todd glared at the offending nail before pounding it home with his hammer. How can people just leave a nail like that? Good thing I have another set of coveralls back at the motel room. But, I don't want to head back with only one ride inspected. He tried to turn and look at the tear, but couldn't catch more than a glimpse of his red boxers poking out. Maybe I can patch it with some duct tape, I've got a roll in the truck. I'll just wait until lunch. In the meantime, I'll just finish up with this ride.
As Todd continued his inspection of the track, something else was inspecting Todd.
The missionary spawn had been following and watching the potential host. He took his time to study the creature. Undoubtedly it was intelligent given its use of tools. It seemed to be wearing a protective outer covering, very common among softer-bodied intelligent species. This host seemed more than acceptable for the missionary spawn's mission.
It noticed the tear in the outer covering of the creature, and saw it as an opportunity, the missionary spawn just had to tilt the balance of the encounter even further in its favor. After all, it was entrusted by its former hive with this mission, it couldn't fail.
Todd had finished making a loop of the track and was moving onto inspecting a 'skeleton miner' when suddenly the lights went out.
“What the hell!" He fumbled for his flashlight. Todd was pissed at first, but that soon shifted to fear when he realized It wasn't a blown fuse or anything like that, he had heard the heavy switch on the control booth click off. “Who's there?" He shouted as he quickly shone the beam all around the attraction.
The one place Todd wasn't looking was the ceiling above him. He let out a scream as something landed on his head and shoulders. Todd tried to grab at it, but it moved, seemingly climbing down his back using several long legs. The flashlight clattered to the floor as he tried to pull the thing off his back, but it was no use. He let out another scream as it slipped into the tear on his coveralls. Todd stumbled through the dark, making his way to the bright rectangle of the door, but his body went stiff as a board as the thing stung him. He collapsed face down and slid to a stop.
The sharp pain of the sting quickly numbed away and was replaced with a feeling of euphoria. Not even in his college days had Todd ever felt this high. He knew he should be scared but suddenly even breathing felt good. His heart rate slowed as it circulated the venom through his body. His skin suddenly felt more sensitive. He let out a shuddering moan as he creature's appendages rubbed against his body. His cock started to react quickly, growing stiff. Todd let out a long lusty sigh when a pair of the creature's legs started to rub and stroke his member.
Todd could feel it slipping past the waistband of his boxers, but was in no state to voice any protest. Some other kind of appendage slithered out of the creature and started to snake and probe between Todd's cheeks. The wet slick tip teased his ass, drawing more moans from his lips. It then started to push its way in. Todd came hard between the intrusion and the stroking of his cock. He tried to catch his breath, but the stimulation continued. Also surprisingly his erection didn't start to flag at all.
The creature pressed tighter against Todd's skin. He could feel it sinking into him, not burrowing in, but instead melting and fusing to the base of his spine. The state of euphoric arousal he was in didn't put the man in any state to even freak out about it. He could feel more strange substances flowing into his body, but odder still were the whispers in his mind. They weren't even words at first, just images, fleeting glances and the memories of sensations Todd was sure he had never felt.
Images of someplace far from here, far from earth. A world of organic buildings that looked grown rather than strictly built. A community, no, an entire world working together in harmony. The feeling of never being alone, to always have the comfort of companionship. As the sights, sounds and smells of the alien world flashed through his mind, a small voice started to make itself known.
“You will make this world another hive." the voice said, though it was not speaking English Todd understood it perfectly. “You will be the Broodmother, the fountain of life."
“But I'm a guy…" Todd moaned as he climaxed again. Strangely his cock only felt harder after coming.
“Drain away your worthless human seed, embrace the gift you have been given. You are not male or female, you are the Broodmother!'
The whispers became louder in Todd's mind, wrapping and twisting their way around in his brain. The voice became his own thoughts. Knowledge of the Vespera started to fill his mind. It wasn't that Todd's mind was being overwritten, just expanded to fit his new role. He started to understand The Vespera and his place within their greater society.
Todd's mind wasn't the only thing changing. The creature was now nothing more than a few chitinous bumps along his spine. The appendages that had been stroking his cock had melded into his thighs, though he apparently needed no help staying hard. Purple and green armored plates started to grow from where the creature had fused with its host.
Todd could actually feel the weight he had put on post college melting away to fuel his metamorphosis. His body became thinner and more lithe as it was slowly encased in plates of hardened chitin. On Todd's sides, below his arms a pair of bumps started to form, pushing out from his body and eventually through the sides of his coveralls. They took shape as a pair of insect-like arms, each ending in a set of three finger claws. At the base of Todd's spine a different bud started to form. It pushed out through the tear in his coveralls. It started out as a small bulb but it pulsed and grew taking on an tapered oblong shape. The interlocking plates of chitin that covered it were green with purple stripes. The tip of the secondary abdomen opened and a black sharp stinger emerged, only to retract slowly back inside.
Drained of their human seed, his balls were pulled back into his body, but that wasn't the only change happening between his legs. Todd's shaft darkened to a dark rich purple color. It grew longer and the urethra widened, making it even more of a tube. Before long what had once been a cock was now more of an ovipositor, though it could still deliver Vespera seed as needed. This knowledge only seemed to excite him more.
A pair of fine antennae grew out from Todd's forehead. His mind was awash with the new sensations they brought into his mind. Sounds, smells, even radio transmissions funneled into his mind. It would have driven him mad if there was still a fully human brain sitting in his skull. At this point Todd started to come to terms fully with their new existence.
It is almost complete… Todd's eyes closed as they started to change. I suppose female pronouns fit me better now. She smiled slightly. After all, I am a Broodmother. I think I need a better name than Todd, it doesn't exactly convey who and what I am now. Kirdallirth! Yes, that is my name, of course!
She opened her eyes, now brilliant red and multifaceted. They were able to see beyond the limits of her old eyes. Kirdallirth felt a pressure building behind her shoulders on her back. She curled forward and tore at the coverall with her secondary arms. Two pairs of clear, almost crystalline, wings started to sprout. They twitched as they grew to their full size. Kirdallirth fanned them to finish drying them, but wasn't ready to try flying just yet.
Her transformation complete, the new Vespera Broodmother stood up. Her clawed feet had torn through her boots and she kicked off what was left. Kirdallirth grabbed the ruined coveralls with all four of her hands and tore the material from her body. With such a beautiful carapace she had no use for clothes. Her body was covered in interlocking plates of iridescent green and purple chitin. To a human eye her form seemed vaguely female, with the impression of breasts on her chest and hips that flared out. Not all Broodmothers looked like this, the form was chosen to have an effect on human psyches, at least until they could be brought into the hive.
Kirdallirth held a bit of the material in her hands and remembering it was one hundred percent cotton, she started to consume it. She lacked an insect-like mandible, but she now had many rows of teeth that could grind and pulverize most things. Kirdallirth could consume any organic substance to either feed her body or use to produce various kinds of materials for construction. She was aware that if she grew strong enough she could do the same with synthetic and even inorganic materials, but for now she needed food. The Broodmother would need the energy to begin constructing a nest and producing eggs.
She reached down to retrieve the set of keys that had been left behind after she finished eating her previous set of clothing.
I doubt anything fresh is left behind in any of the food stands after ten years, but at this point I will gladly feast on the napkins. Hmmm, I shouldn't just leave my tools here, I will probably need them in the near future.
Kirdallirth collected the scattered items left behind and deposited them into a small tool bag before leaving to gorge herself on whatever she could find.

Night had fallen over Firefly Mountain Park. It was a clear night and the moon and stars were out. The parking lot was completely empty, until an old beat-up Civic drove all the way up to the front gate. The car idled for a moment before the four doors opened. Four young people, two men and two women stepped out of the still running car.
“Damn, the old place looks creepy." Aidan, the driver said as he looked into the park.
“Don't say that, it's just because all the lights are off." His girlfriend Melina said, giving his arm a playful punch. “I used to come here all the time as a kind, until it shut down."
“He's not trying to be mean." Issac said, shaking his head, “We all came here as kids, remember? But any big place meant to be bright and full of people looks creepy when it's empty in the dark."
Laura sighed as she slipped a small backpack over her shoulders. “Are we going to sneak in or what? “ The other three made some sounds of agreement. “Then get your stuff and turn off the car. Once this place sells we'll never have the chance to do this again."
“Leave it to Laura to keep us on task." Aidan said as he reached in to turn the key.
“Somebody's got to." She smirked back.
They all grabbed the gear they had brought for this little adventure. As they approached the gate and were debating how best to scale it, Issac noticed the gate wasn't even locked.
“Uh guys? Look." he pointed to the unlocked gate just slightly ajar.
“Wait, it's open?" Melina said as she inspected the gate. “Why would it be unlocked?"
“They probably had some people up here looking at the place." Laura said with a slight sigh. “Looks like we came just in time."
“Not just that, we don't even have to climb the fence to get in." Aidan smiled as he pushed the gate open, just wide enough to fit in. “Come on, let's go."
“What if there are people still in there?" Issac cautioned.
“Dude, the parking lot is empty and none of the lights are on." He gestured to the moon-lit park
“He's got a point." Laura said as she walked past Issac and Melina to join Aidan.
Issac sighed and turned to Melina. “Well, we're already trespassing, and your idiot boyfriend is our ride." He shrugged.
She laughed and they joined the rest of their friends. Just inside the gate they walked past a truck.
“Hey, there's a car here." Aidan said as he came to a stop.
“They probably just use the truck to get around while inspecting the place." Laura said with a shrug. “Come on, we're not here to stare at an old pick-up truck."
The four of them continued on into the park.
***
Kirdallirth's antennae twitched and she turned from the nest she had been constructing in the Haunted Mine ride.
Oh…somebody is here. She stopped the excretion of construction gel from her secondary abdomen. Actually, I think more than one. Kirdallirth smiled to herself and started to walk towards the door. And they are just in time to help me, how perfect!
Kirdallirth turned off the lights before opening the door. She didn't want her guests to know the park wasn't completely abandoned. After stepping out Kirdallirth unfolded her wings and flew up to the roof and hid behind the sign. She blinked several times, shifting her eyesight to see better in the low light. She spotted the four friends easily by their flashlights as they stood around the carousel.
Four of them? Hmm, might be tricky even if I get the jump on them. But I do want to enjoy myself while I am still this mobile.
***
“Aww, I was hoping to get a picture on the carousel." Melina said with disappointment.
“Anything that can be closed up will be. But there should still be plenty of rides we can climb on." Laura said as she snapped a picture of the pavilion.
“Hey, let's move on, there's still lots to see." Aidan started to walk down the midway.
“Oh hey, I remember this game!" Issac said excitedly as he stopped in front of the shuttered Aqua-Blast booth “I remember winning a stuffed bear here when I was a kid."
“Stand in front of it, I'll get your picture." Laura said as she held up her phone."
***
Moving as quietly as she could, Kirdallirth scurried across the roofs of the midway. She could hear the four of them talking clearly now.
I've got to concentrate on my venom. I want to just paralyze them for a bit, not hurt them.
She closed her eyes and focused on the glands in her abdomen. Vespera were all capable of producing many kinds of substances to inject via their stingers. Having formally been a human, Kirdallirth's venoms would be especially effective on the four young people down below.
***
“Got it." Laura said after snapping the picture.
“Thanks." As Issac stepped away from the booth he felt the hair on the back of his neck rise up. “Oh, hey?" He turned around and scanned the booth with his flashlight.
“What is it?" Melina asked.
“I just…got a feeling."
“You are always so jumpy." Aidan laughed. “What, do you think a clown is going to pop out and grab us?"
“First of all, clowns are creepy, and secondly…I don't know, it just felt like something was watching us."
“It was probably just some animal wondering who was shining a light around." Laura shrugged. “Come on, Let's keep going."
The other three started to walk away, but Issac lingered, still unnerved slightly. He finally turned and was about to start catching up to his friends when he heard something. It was some kind of humming sound. Before he could even venture a thought about what it was, something tackled him to the ground.
With the wind knocked out of him, Isaac wasn't able to shout. There then was a sharp pain in his rear. The pain quickly faded as his whole body went numb and non responsive. Fear started to well up in Isaac's mind.
Kirdallirth leaned in close and whispered in the young man's ear.
"Shhhh, don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you and your friends. I promise you will enjoy every moment, my little drone."
There was the hum again and the weight on his back vanished. From his position on the ground Issac couldn't see anything other than the concrete.
Aidan heard the humming sound and turned around. His eyes went wide and he screamed when he saw some kind of kind insect-thing coming at him. It alerted the women but all they could do was scream too as the creature landed on his shoulders and stabbed him with her stinger in the chest.
Aidan quickly crumpled to the ground and the bug-woman landed gently on her feet. She smiled at the women.
“Aidan! Oh god! You killed him!" Melina looked on with horror at her boyfriend
“Don't be silly, I'm not going to harm either of my drones, they are just paralyzed."
Laura noticed Issac laying on the ground several yards away. “Why? So you can eat them?"
Kirdallirth laughed. “No, they will be the first members of The Hive, along with the two of you."
Melina screamed again and took off running deeper into the park. Laura watched as the creature took after her, on foot this time. She ran to Aidan's body. He was still breathing, she could see that much. Laura dug around in his pockets and found his keys just as she heard a quick cry of Melina as she too was stung. She scrambled up to her feet and saw the creature effortlessly carrying her friend back towards her. She felt scared, but at the same time, she was captivated by the monster. She was smiling at Laura, as if daring her to make a break for the car.
“If you don't run, I won't have to sting you." She said in a friendly tone.
“Who-what are you?" Laura asked in almost a whisper.
“My name is Kirdallirth, Broodmother of the Vespera." She laid Melina down gently beside Aidan.
“Are you an alien?"
“In part, yes. A missionary spawn merged with my once human body to elevate me to my new position."
“That's weird but…kind of cool." Laura admitted.
Kirdallirth laughed. “I like to think so. What's your name, worker?"
“Laura…what do you mean by worker?"
“That will be your role in the hive."
“I-I don't want to be a mindless worker." She took a step back, clutching the keys so tightly they almost hurt.
“Mindless? Oh no. You will be part of a greater whole, yes, but not some mindless servant."
Laura shook her head. “That's not really comforting me."
“You seem like a smart woman, Laura. You know you can not escape me at this point." Kirdallirth walked slowly towards her. “And I can tell you are just as intrigued as you are scared, if not more so."
“You stung my friends, yeah I'm scared!"
“Only for their safety, I don't want to accidentally hurt them before their integration." Kirdallirth reached out with her hand. “We mean no harm, only to bring the world together into true unity and peace. That is the mission of the Vespera."
Laura looked at the outstretched hand. She wondered just what Kirdallirth's body felt like but shook it off.
“But what about humanity?" She didn't sound especially sure as she spoke.
“What about it?" Kirdallirth shrugged her shoulders. “I used to be human, I know how fucked up everything is."
“Shit," Laura shook her head again, “that's not the point."
Kirdallirth tilted her head slightly. “Isn't it? How long before this beautiful planet is completely ruined? How many more people need to die in pointless battles? How many people need to starve as resources are squandered by those in power?"
Laura narrowed her eyes slightly. “And you can fix all of that?"
“We can fix all of that. You and your friends will be the start of a better world."
The more she talked the less scary Kirdallirth seemed. Laura had always found a certain beauty in insects and Kirdallirth was only amplifying her opinion. She reached out and took her hand. It felt hard, but smooth and cool.
Kirdallirth smiled. “I knew you were an intelligent woman."
“I-I don't know what I'm doing…" Laura admitted.
“I will show you, but first let's take your friends somewhere more comfortable."
Laura managed a nod.
