The lascerians formed a triangle around the humans in a protective manner, something Val noticed and thanked them for. After a few minutes of silence Ali said.

"Is the guildmaster really...?"

A loud flapping interrupted her, a large shadow blocked the light from the candelabra above, sounds and wind accompanied the shadow. With a deep thud something landed in front of them. Val was now scared.

"Welcome to my office, it is my pleasure to meet you, I am Kenaiross guildmaster of the explorer's guild." Said an unnaturally deep and powerful voice, yet the voice was courteous and modulated.

Val peeped out from behind Adam, there in front of them was what she could only describe as a dragon four meters tall, the creature was red and stood on four legs, a pair of powerful wings folded on his back, it possessed two black horns and red spikes of a darker hue covered his spine from head to tail tip, his face looked aggresive but serious, it had shining yellow eyes, his body was very muscular.

Everyone was in awe looking at the majestic creature, Kalios was the first to recompose and talk.

"Greetings sir, we came as you ordered." He made a small reverence.

The dragon analyzed the group for a moment, before talking.

"I was informed that the three of you were sent to investigate the strange event at the Azure Forest and found them." The dragon looked at the humans, Val tried to hide behind Adam she could feel his muscles tensing up "Is there anything else you need to add?"

"Yes sir, there's something I didn't told Krisa since I thought you had to know first." Said Kalios, the party looked at him curious the dragon's eyes squinted "We found servants of the denied attacking these azurekin."

The dragon's eyes darkened, foreshadowing deeper emotions than they showed. Then he asked.

"How many?"

"Five, but the azurekin male brought one down and we felled another, the others fleed, their gear and small number suggested they were spies."

The dragon got lost in thought for a minute, then he stood on his hind legs, now reaching six meters in height. The dragon walked standing around the humans, Adam followed his movements keeping himself between the dragon and the shaking Val. The creature seemed to be studying them. To Val's surprise Adam talked.

"You called us human not azurekin, also you don't have an amulet for translation."

"Clever, yes you are not the first humans I meet, but it has certainly been a long time."

Val's eyes opened wide at the revelation, how old was he? How could he speak perfect english. The dragon turned to face them.

"We know humans and you had contact before, and it was lost." Said Val "How much you know? How can we return?"

"That I don't know, the azurites are one of the biggest mysteries of creation, if you want to return I doubt it's doable, even if it's in theory possible." Answered the dragon "Right now the denied should worry you more."

"Why?" Asked Adam, Val remembered the dark lascerians that attacked them.

"Because now he knows you are here and he will try to find you." The dragon walked to his desk to sit "Please have a seat."

The humans still fearful and distrustful took seat on the couple of normal chairs.

"I'm going to tell you one of the most important stories from our world. You see long ago the denied blackmailed one of our gods, Rhovas god of prophecy and destiny. The denied kidnapped his children, he did that in order to get a prophecy for himself, one he believed would make him invincible."

"What kind of prophecy?" Asked Val.

"That no god or creature from Gissavras would be able to kill him. The prophecy had a weakness however, humans are not from Gissavras, so they can defeat and even kill him."

The human's eyes lightened with understanding and fear.

"Yes, that's the reason why his servants attacked you. You are now the biggest threat to him. The reason we have been unable to stop him once and for all is precisely because of that prophecy."

Val held Adam's hand tightly with fear.

"Why did he forget about us? Sounds like a very obvious mistake?" Asked Val.

"Because this happened long before we saw humans for the first time, back then he was truly invincible. Then the first humans appeared and helped us destroy his mortal vessel, sadly they failed their attempt to destroy his soul. For a long time you were the bane of his existence."

The dragon then pointed to a piece of leather with the red eye they saw on the hunters of the denied haning on the wall behind them amidst the books, after some seconds Val realized the leather was made from human skin, a shiver ran down her spine.

"I can grant you protection from him and his servants, but I want something in exchange."

Adam squinted before asking.

"And that would be?"

"Help to either destroy the denied forever or access your world in order to bring someone who can destroy him, do this and I will grant you the guild's membership and protection."

Adam sighed, he turned to Val, she just said.

"If that's true then we have no other option." Said Val.

"You know I'm getting tired of not having options." Sighed Adam fed up "Okay we'll do it, we'll help you."

Tha dragon eyes showed an emotion Val could not decipher, as if a path had opened for him.

"Good, then be welcome to the explorer's guild."

His eyes shined even more, from his desk a couple of items floated towards the humans landing on their hands. The objects were copies of the one used by Ali to enter the guild.

"That's the guild's badge, it will identify you as members and allow to use its resources and facilities, for now you can leave. You may join Kalios party if you wish, in that case they will receive an assignment tomorrow. I will contact you after making more research about your world, don't tell anyone anything said here other than your entrance to the guild."

With that the dragon stood and flied away towards the upper floor beyond their sight. Val realized she was holding her breath as she could finally release the air in her lungs. Adam collapsed on his chair stressed. Val just managed to say.

"I-I think we should leave."

Adam reacted jumping from the chair.

"You are right let's go."

As soon as they were out Val felt someone fall on her, a pair of scaly arms hugged her.

"Oh gods!" Said Ali "I was really worried, are you okay?"

Val froze in place dealing with Ali's overwhelming attention.

"Uhm yes we are okay..." Said Val.

"Calm down Ali you are suffocating Val." Said Zaubria with a relaxed tone "I'm glad you are safe." She added now serious "What did the guildmaster said? Can you tell us."

Adam answered.

"He allowed us to join your party. Everything else he wanted to keep a secret."

"Then its done." Said Kalios "I expect you tomorrow to be ready for the next assignment, we'll have to train you on the way."

Ali cried of joy while hugging Val.

"Yes! We will stay together!"

Zaubria laughed admiring Ali's cheerfulness, Adam smiled faintly while Val tried to endure Ali's overbearing affection, even Kalios seemed to relax if only a little.

The party walked excitedly towards their rooms to rest when Krisa appeared walking hurried towards them, two hoded lascerians were behind her.

"I need to tell you something." Sentenced Krisa bluntly, the party's animosity was killed by her serious attitude "These two agents along with some others have confirmed that servants of the denied are roaming on the outskirts of the city. It seems they are also roaming the azure forest and its surroundings."

The entire party was alarmed, the two humans crossed worried gazes.
