"Shadows Cast By Flames" follows Raix, after having defeated his ex-lover and sire, Ketzgryf. The vampiric dragon has no idea what to do now and is fully consumed by the demons inside his heart. And then, there's his doppelganger, Raigengrau...

Raigengrau's presence is constant on Raix's psyche, as he was created due to Raix's own failures. Much like how Raix had the single-minded focus on killing Ketzgryf, Raigengrau focuses only on breaking down Raix's mind and heart, demanding that Raix accepts and acknowledges his existence.

And Raigengrau will NOT be abandoned, ever again...

But strangely enough, the two might also be the cure to each others wounds, deep in their hearts.

"Shadows Cast By Flames" was the third major fic I wrote that was based off my original setting "A Rose In Wildfire". It features an alternative take if my OC, the anthro vampire dragon Raix ended up killing his vampiric sire and ex-lover, Ketzgryf, and the following events, especially when dealing with his doppelganger / original soul that he abandoned, Raigengrau.

I also created the cover art using Infinite Painter on my XP Pen Tablet + back cover. I'm not really that great of an artist, though, I am trying to learn. I really wanted to give it a sort of "unhinged" look, complete with Raigengrau staring through a crack in the mirror.

Summary

The vampire anthro dragon known as Raix SolHart had finally taken revenge on his maker, Ketzgryf Durantallyn.

However, even after the defeat of his sire, Raix is still haunted by his own emptiness, as well as a doppelganger that wears his face. This doppelganger, however, is no mere copy. It is the physical representation of his very soul that he lost when he was turned into a vampire. When he finally defeated Ketzgryf, Raix had the opportunity to reclaim his soul, but in doing so, he would lose all of his memories. Every moment he had experienced as a vampire would be gone. Erased.

Fearing such oblivion, Raix abandoned his original soul.

Furious at being discarded, his original soul would claim part of the soul of a Chaos God that Raix had dealings with, and would form its own body in the shape of Raix...yet different. His original soul now called itself "Raigengrau"...

And Raigengrau will do ANYTHING to ensure he is accepted by Raix.

Raix wanders the gothic occult school known as "Leudracyte Academy" at night, desperate to escape the nightmares in his own head. However, Raigengrau appears to be stalking Raix, the doppelganger able to manifest itself using mirrors within the academy...

Wonderful. Another sleepless day.”

Raix SolHart yawned with exhaustion, as he stumbled through the dark halls of Leudracyte Academy, the lack of sleep apparent in his eyes. The gothic academy was a sprawling institution that was filled to the brim with occult secrets and forbidden knowledge. His home. His gilded cage.

The sound of the vampire dragon’s heavy boots echoed through the corridor, moonlight illuminating the passage as it shone through stained glass. Raix’s black longcoat clung to the shoulders of his lithe form, the golden lace shining in the soft light. He brushed a clawed hand through his windswept snow-white hair, his mismatched eyes of blue-and-red lidded and unfocused. His ebony scales matched the shade of his coat, broken up by crimson accents and markings on his body. A rapier with a decorative ring-guard that resembled a rose’s thorns clung to his belt on the left side, his most trusted companion.

It had been two years since Raix returned to the academy and exacted revenge against his sire, Ketzgryf Durantallyn. The bastard ruined his life centuries ago, when he forcibly turned Raix and stole his soul, reducing him to nothing more than a mindless pet to be whored out. Through dark deals and the pity of a living Chaos God, he was able to attain a new soul and a terrifying power that manifested itself as a furious firestorm that matched the rage in his heart. Using this gift, Raix traveled across Europe, eliminating the members of House Durantallyn, Ketzgryf’s vampire clan, one-by-one. Only to return to Leudraceia, just south of the Romanian border. To kill Ketzgryf.

“Ugh…” Raix’s head ached. He could never forget those eyes of violet-and-crimson when he struck down the vampiric dragon lord. That smug smile on his face. Raix almost devoured Ketzgryf’s soul that night, the act causing him to see the memories of the monster. The depths of his sire’s ennui terrified Raix, as it dawned on him that Ketzgryf held no joy, sorrow or anger; Only emptiness. And seeing his original soul again...the one Ketzgryf devoured all those centuries ago.

The soul held all of Raix’s memories. All of his experiences from his past, before he was turned. The terrified and abused boy from Strasbourg. Stealing money and food, just so he wouldn’t die in a gutter. Mortal.

Raix couldn’t take back his original soul. He was “The Wildfire of Strasbourg” and “The Bard of Spite”; Titles and names that struck terror into his enemies. His younger, mortal self was an entirely different person. He couldn't bear to look at him. It was like staring into a broken mirror.

Raix fled, abandoning his original self that night. Not aware that his soul, now left behind, would become something else entirely. A thing that wore his face.

Almost there” He thought to himself. The academy’s kitchens were not much further from here. He just needed to make some coffee.

Raix reached the foyer, swiftly descending the stairs. Not paying any mind to the massive stained-glass window that depicted battles and conquests of the now-broken House Durantallyn. Including the depiction of himself and the alabaster-scaled vampire dragon that was Ketzgryf, locked in each other’s arms. The sight made him sick to his stomach.

Reaching the first level, he made his way towards a new wing of the academy, striding through a corridor and spotting the closed oaken door that led to the kitchens. Halfway through the passage, something on the wall reflected the moonlight streaming into the halls.

A mirror.

Raix cursed silently in his home language, hissing French profanities through clenched teeth. He thought he had covered most of the academy’s mirrors up, even going so far to shatter some.

He increased his brisk pace, keeping his eyes forward. He passed by the reflective surface on the right.

Don’t look. He wants you to look. There’s nothing there.”

A shadow appeared to lurch. Instinctively, Raix’s gaze tracked the form to the right.

For the split-second his eyes made contact with the reflective surface of the mirror, he saw nothing. Only the complete absence of his reflection.

Raix snapped his eyes forward again. He started to run. He didn’t want to chance it. That was how that thing moved. Through mirrors.

Raix rammed his body against the door to the kitchens, swiftly turning the knob and slamming the door behind.

“Godsdamn…” Raix growled to himself. “Why? Why the Hells does he make me feel this way?”

* * *

The strong scent of coffee permeated the air, the dark liquid boiling in the copper pot. Raix leaned against the counter, arms crossed, staring listlessly. The gas lamp-lit kitchens of the academy were sparse since the defeat of Ketzgryf, even if what faculty remained attempted to keep the school going. Raix didn’t care. He had no idea what to do now that Ketzgryf was dead.

Centuries of desire, a single-minded focus on revenge. And yet his victory felt hollow. He could never forget Ketzgryfs arrogant smirk as the vampire lord died in Raixs arms. On top of that, now he has to deal with his own personal phantom, a doppelganger that haunts his every move. Why bother writing a magnum opus when you’re looking over your shoulder all the time? And the object of his affection…

Raix smiled a bit as he thought of him. The blue-scaled dragon known as Marius Phenlevaine was a damned crybaby who fancied himself a poet. One who found his way to Leudraceia, in an attempt to escape the hellish Reign of Terror in Paris.

Despite his own disdain for his previous life, Raix saw something innocent within Marius that was lost in himself all those centuries ago. A fool that hums off-key, falls asleep at the merest drop of wine and writes terrible sonnets about ducks.

And yet, he often found himself drawn to Marius. Maybe it was because the innocence within the poet was never truly broken beyond repair. But most of all...

Raix felt safe around Marius. The poet never took from Raix. Never tore out what remaining hope he had. Never lied to him about their feelings together. Never took him to bed and-

-he still could feel the sting of Ketzgryf`s fangs sinking into his throat. The mocking kiss against his lips. The hollowing sensation of his soul being devoured whole by the one who claimed to have loved him. The emptiness that followed.

Raix snapped himself out of his trance. He removed the pot of coffee from the stovetop and opened a cupboard, revealing multiple ceramic mugs for use. He reached for one, his trembling claws slipping through the handle.

The mug slipped from his grasp. Before Raix could even attempt to catch it mid-fall, it collided with the edge of the marble counter-top, and shattered on the tile below.

“...Damnation.” Raix sighed. He walked to the back of the kitchens to collect a lonely broom in the corner, returning to the scene.

He froze. The echoes of ceramic shattering still ringing in his pointed ears.

He thought about the mirror outside. He knew that his doppelganger usually announced his presence by dramatically throwing himself through the glass.

“_What if..._no.” Raix shook his head. The lack of sleep...the nightmares, the paranoia...it was all getting to him. “You’re the godsdamned ‘Wildfire’, Raix, not some terrified child that jumps at his own shadow.” He tried to assure himself as he finished cleaning up.

Get your damned coffee, get upstairs and figure out how to deal with this.” Raix thought to himself as he poured the dark brew into his mug. “You want to move forward after all of this? You want to stop being scared? You crave a life with someone who actually gives a shit about you? Then fix it.

With renewed purpose, Raix threw the door open. He made his way back through the corridor, breathing in the aroma of the bitter brew in his hand. He closed his eyes as he took in the scent.

Something crunched underneath his ebony knee-high boots. Raix’s eyes shot wide open at the sound.

The carpeted floor of the moonlit passageway was littered with sparkling glass.

From the shattered mirror.

...Shit. Not now.”

Raix dropped the mug as he sprinted towards the foyer. With a flash of light and a song of steel leaving its scabbard, Raix’s rapier was already in hand. He whirled around the corner of the hall-

-a shadow snarled, the dark shape slamming into Raix’s chest with enough force to knock him off his feet.

The vampire barely had the time to cry out as his back slammed against the violet and gold carpet of the foyer. His head connected with the floor, the sudden pain shooting stars through Raix’s eyes. The muted sound of his blade falling from his grasp onto the floor was like a death knell to him.

Raix’s assailant clung to his body, the creature’s warm breath washing over Raix’s throat. The scent of vanilla, much like his own, filled his nostrils. And yet, underneath that, there was an aroma akin to a corpse.

“Mmmm...Baby Bat. _ Raix _…” The monster purred, its lips pressed against Raix’s ear. “You really should have known better.” It chuckled, the thing’s voice layered in a twisted chorus of overlapping tones.

Raix’s vision blurred from his head injury. “Ugggh... _Raigengrau__ …”_ The vampire dragon weakly groaned the thing’s name, his eyes barely able to make out the twisted features of himself. His own doppelganger.

Raigengrau may have looked similar to Raix, but the doppelganger’s appearance was just off. Black-and-red scales leaked an oily substance that stained the torn and frayed white-and-crimson jacket and trousers that was the uniform for students at Leudracyte Academy. The same uniform Raix himself wore, back when he was still mortal. Ebony ichor dripped from Raigengrau’s spiked-back white hair, the tips of his hair colored jet-black. Eyes of black sclera with ice-blue pupils bored into Raix’s own.

Stranger still, was the scar on Raigengrau’s body, the torn jacket revealing his red-scaled underbelly. A long, twisting wound traveled from the throat, down Raigengrau’s bare chest and ended at his flat stomach, resembling an inverted interpretation of the Serpens constellation.

The doppelganger licked his chops with a forked blue-and-black mottled tongue, before he grinned widely at Raix. “Poor little Baby Bat...did ya’ get a little boo-boo on your head?” Raigengrau straddled Raix’s body, his full weight settling on Raix’s crotch. He reached up with a clawed hand to playfully bat at Raix’s left temple. “A good ol’ bump-on-the-noggin’?

The vampire dragon winced in pain, biting his lip. “S-stop it, Raigengrau! Fuck off!” His head was killing him, as Raix tried to pull himself out from underneath his doppelganger in a desperate attempt to grab his rapier.

Raigengrau’s hands shot out, grasping Raix’s wrists to pin them to the floor. “Awww! ‘STOp iT, RaiGenGraU!’” He repeated mockingly, leaning forward to fill Raix’s vision with his nightmarish face. “You say those words every night, Little Shadow…” His voice lowered. “...You love to say ‘em right before you beg me not to stop.”

Raix snarled, spitting in Raigengrau’s face. “ Don’t you DARE!

The doppelganger responded with a cackle, the black ichor that leaked from between his scales mixed in with Raix’s spittle. “Woahhh! Baby Bat’s got spice tonight!” He playfully wriggled his rear end on Raix’s crotch. “That’s good. I rarely get to see you out of your room these days. I only get to pay a visit to ya’ in your dreams.

“Oh, what?” Raigengrau continued. “Come on, you don’t think you just have bad dreams because you’re so FUCKED UP in the head, right?” He leaned in ever closer, his muzzle almost touching Raix’s, the scent of vanilla-and-rot overwhelming on his breath. “It’s easy for me to find a mirror to bust outta’. Slink into your room at night. Crawl under the sheets and then...showtime.” He punctuated the last word by bouncing on Raix’s crotch.

Nnngh…” Raix tried to look away. Those eyes that stared right through his flesh and into his soul terrified him.

“What are some of your favorite reoccurring dreams, Baby Bat?” Raigengrau crooned. “Thinkin’ about how Ketzgryf used to treat you like a dog? Ruminating on your own failures as a person? Or better yet…” His lips brushed Raix’s now. “...Do ya’ like the ones that involve me?”

A sharp intake of breath through teeth. Raix froze, but remained silent.

Mmmm, hehehehe…” Raigengrau saw the look on Raix’s face. It was a look only reserved for him. Fear, yet...desire.Bingo. What was it, Baby Bat? Another round of jumpscares? Did ya’ end up back in Strasbourg to get abused by ‘Mama SolHart’? Or did I pin ya’ against the wall and make you scream?” The doppelganger’s eyes narrow. “Oh, I know! Can’t forget the shit you’re into. Did you lick between my toes? Did ya’ dream of me being big and gulping you down into my gut?”

Raix’s skull felt like it was about to split open, yet even he was getting tired of this. Through the pain and exhaustion, he did what he could to summon usual sardonic wit. “Oh, please” A faint smile formed on Raix’s muzzle. “All you ever talk about are dreams and nightmares. How about doing something in the real world for a change, phantom?”

PFFFFFT!” Raigengrau blew a raspberry into Raix’s face, black-colored saliva splattering all over the vampire dragon’s face. “BOOOOO! BORING!” The doppelganger grabbed Raix’s coat collar to shake him. “You got way better insults than that, Baby Bat! If you don’t try a little harder, I’m gonna begin to think you do want me to fuck ya’ up tonight!”

“In fact…” Raigengrau’s grip slipped from Raix’s collar, his head almost cracking against the floor again. “...Let’s try somethin’ FUN!” He grabbed Raix’s right hand by the wrist and held it up against his face. “Come on, fuckboi!” Raigengrau held Raix’s hand against the ichor-slickened scales. “You don’t need no rapier! You can just blow me up with that Wildfire of yours! ‘Course, I’ll come back, but you’ll get a bit of a reprieve!”

Raix’s grip tightened around Raigengrau’s face as he glared into his doppelganger’s eyes. He was right. He could just summon up his pyrokinesis and melt the creature into ash.

The thing wearing his own face.

...Why is it so hard to just- Raix thought to himself, his eyes unblinking and unwavering.

“Clock’s tickin’, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau growled. “What’s the matter? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

He’ll come back.” Raix thought. “_He always does. But you can deal with him another night if you just... focus _.”

“You’ve stabbed me before! You even melted my face off my skull that one time!” Raigengrau chuckled. “What it is? Is it hard watching yourself die? I’m only you, after all.”

Raix trembled. The doppelganger could feel it.

Ohhh!” Raigengrau chortled. “What a twist! Baby Bat finally admitting that I AM him! Guess I better get around to eatin’ ya soon, so we can get you right back where you belong, huh?” The thick tongue snaked out from between his lips, Raigengrau slurrrping up Raix’s palm.

The vampire dragon immediately withdrew his now saliva-soaked hand in disgust. “Ugh.” Raix growled. “I’d sooner feed myself to a pit filled with stakes than allow myself to be eaten by you.”

“More like you’re gonna get eaten like a steak” Raigengrau licked his chops. “First off, we gotta get you undressed, Baby Bat! Gotta get you outta your packaging.” Using his index finger, the doppelganger hooked a claw around the collar of Raix’s black-and-silver doublet underneath his coat, teasing the clasp that held it together. “Jeez, you sure do wear a lot of clothes, Baby Bat. Between your coat, doublet, your shirt…” His hollow eyes trace Raix’s body. “Your pants...and boots?!” Raigengrau breathed in a theatrical gasp. “Come ON, Baby Bat! You can’t wear boots! Think of all the simps who wanna see your paws! You could make some _ very _ good money if you let the foot fuckers huff your toes!” Raigengrau flexed his own bare, clawed digits for emphasis.

Raix rolled his eyes. “At least I wear clothes. You’re dressed in the same rags from the night I was turned.” Raix smirked. “What, do you have a thing for remembering the night Ketzgryf tore our throat out and swallowed our soul?”

Do you?” Raigengrau returned the same smug smile.

Raix blinked.

Ohhhh, got’ em.” The doppelganger stuck his tongue out again playfully. “And ‘our’?” Raigengrau repeated. “Already thinking about ‘us’, huh? Not just ‘you’ and ‘me’ anymore? I’m touched, Baby Bat.” His hooked claw pierced the fine material of the doublet.

“I expect you to pay for this.” Raix’s eyes glared with the intensity of the sun. “For both my garments and in flesh. And good gods, you think I’d let anyone near my feet? Get your mind out of the gutter, Raigengrau.”

“Ah, my mistake.” Raigengrau shrugged. “You’re the one that prefers to lick someone else’s feet instead. You think you can suck a dick or toes better, Baby Bat?”

Raix opened his mouth to issue his own verbal riposte, when Raignegrau_’s claw _sliced through the center of his doublet, the silver clasps clattering to the floor.

“You FOUL cretin!” Raix hissed. “Fucking violating my doublet like it’s a godsdamned dishrag to you-”

“’Bout to do a whole lot more than just violate your pretty little clothes, Baby Bat!” The doppelganger wasn’t about to halt his momentum, his claws now sinking into Raix’s silken shirt.

STOP calling me that!” Raix bared his fangs. “Do I look like a bat you you?! I’m a dragon, for fuck’s sake!”

“More like a lizard, hehe.” Raigengrau didn’t miss a beat, his claws making quick work of the vampire dragon’s shirt, shredding it to pieces in seconds. “And come on! Vampires...bats...vampire BATS.” He shook his head. “You’re a bard, for fuck’s sake! You should be quicker on the draw, dummy!” The doppelganger grinned wickedly at Raix. “Besides, ‘Baby Bat’ rolls off the tongue so well, don’t ya’ think? Just like how you’re gonna roll off my tongue, soon enough.”

For a split-second, Raix felt himself blush. “I-”

Shhhhh, no need for words, I know how you really feel...we’re the same, after all.” Raigengrau pursed his lips together. “ Mwah! ” His claws stroked along Raix’s bare chest, feeling the irregular beat of his vampire heart. “Oh, my sweet little Baby Bat…” The doppelganger purred, his hand resting on Raix’s chest now, fingers splayed. “Ba-da. Da-DA! Ba-dump, ba-bump! I just adore the way your heart beats for me.”

“Don’t get too excited now, shadow. It’s just normal bodily functions-HRK!” Raix choked on his own words, as Raigengrau’s claws dug into his chest, the hand squeezing now. His heart was pounding against the grip.

Oh?” Raigengrau’s tone suddenly lowered, his grip relaxing and tightening rhythmically to mimic the beat of Raix’s heart. “I dunno, most vampires don’t have much of a pulse. But yours? Mm, it practically plays a tune whenever I’m around.” His claws drew blood from Raix’s chest as he clenched.

“_ F-fuck... _putain…” Raix swore, legs kicking against the floor, the heels of his boots dragging against the carpet. His vision blurred again, the throbbing, pulsing ache in his skull now matching the one in his chest. His tail curled tightly around his own leg, a foolish habit he never grew out of since he was a child. His own sign that he was afraid.

“Could just pop it.” The maddening chorus of Raigengrau’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Frankly, you deserve it for leaving me behind. We’ve been together since the start, Raix, all the way back in Strasbourg.”

Raigengrau’s grin faded, his eyes devoid of all mirth as he stared into Raix’s. “I waited centuries for you as I rotted within that smug piece of trash. All while you gallivanted across Europe, pretending to be someone you’re not.” The doppelganger hissed, his vice-like grip on Raix’s chest ever-present. “I’m you, Raix! Accept me!”

Raix’s hands reached up to grasp Raigengrau’s wrist, as he clawed uselessly at the ichor-slickened scales. “S-stop…” He choked out. “I’m...not you. Please...”

A triumphant smirk formed on Raigengrau’s lips momentarily, only for his expression to fade back into the blank look that stared through the vampire dragon. “Keep lying to yourself.” Raix could barely hear him over the strained pulse of his own heart. “That’s all you ever do anyway. Run. Lie. Hide. Fight. Anything to not look in the mirror and see what you truly are.” His head titled. “Where do you think the blood lust inside you comes from? That need to lash out when you think you’re cornered? How you’d sooner die before you’d ever admit you were wrong about something?”

Saliva pooled around Raix’s lips, dribbling down his muzzle.

“Maybe it’s you who’s the shadow, Raix. Maybe you’re the doppelganger.” Raigengrau murmured. “All those years you wasted running. Trying to find a new home. When I’m the only home you’ll ever need.”

Please, don’t let the curtain fall on my life just yet.” Raix desperately hoped. His eyes darkened, his pulse fluttered. “This miserable existence has to amount to something other than pain, please.

The blazing storm that was Raix’s soul started to gutter out and-

Release.

Raix gasped. T he sudden rush of blood, unobstructed, brought forth a new wave of pain.

WHOOPSIE!” Raigengrau tore his hand away, the tips of his claws covered in Raix’s blood. His crushing grip left a dark bruise on Raix’s chest. “Sorry about that! I got a little carried away!” That maddening grin returned to the doppelganger’s face as he laughed. “Therapist says I got some major difficulty letting go of shit. They might need to update my chart during my next appointment!”

S-shut up…” Raix choked, the blood in his veins felt like it was on fire. “Insane bastard…”

“Awww! Poor you!” Raigengrau mocked Raix as he loomed over him. “You lose your shit all the damn time! All it takes is one wrong word and they’re suddenly a pile of ash! That’s how you got your cute little nickname that everyone likes to call you!” He gestured dramatically, palms skyward. “’His name is Wildfire! Can barely balance his own emotions, but don’t worry! He’ll burn down a city just because someone said his clothes looked like ass.’”

“Speaking of clothes!” Raigengrau pulled himself up to his knees, gazing at Raix’s belt. He hovered his hand over the buckle, wiggling his digits with anticipation. “We only got half of you unwrapped! Gotta peel off the rest of that wrapper!”

Raix saw his chance. He arched his back and lunged to his feet, the movement displacing the shredded fabric of his doublet and shirt. He lowered himself into a crouch, following up with a leap towards his fallen rapier.

A heavy weight tackled Raix from behind, forcing him down onto the floor, his snout colliding with the surface.

Nope!” Raigengrau cackled gleefully. “You’re not going anywhere, Baby Bat!” His claws hooked around Raix’s belt.

Blood poured from Raix’s nostrils, his claws tearing into the carpet. “ NO! ” Raix cried out. “Get off of me!”

“Oh, patience, patience!” Raigengrau tore the belt from Raix’s waist, his claws now working on his pants. “Why are you in such a rush, Baby Bat?! Of course I’m going to get off on you!” The doppelganger tore at the buttons of the ebony slacks. “Or, to put it more accurately, I’m going to get off in you.”

Raix squirmed, glaring back at Raigengrau. “Fuck you!” He spat. “I’ll kill you if you try it! I-I swear!” His voice cracked, whether from rage or fear. Or something far worse.

He could smell it. His own honey-and-vanilla scent. Growing stronger. Sweeter.

Godsdamn my body. Godsdamn my heart. And godsdamn me.” Raix thought bitterly. A life of traumatic experiences, his body being beaten and used

“Mmmm...” Raigengrau paused to inhale Raix’s scent. “Been waiting for this ya’ know. That moment you start smellin’ like a bakery. You’re getting’ into this, ain’t ya’?” The doppelganger groped Raix’s crotch. “Oh, NICE!” Raigengrau could already feel the rigidity of Raix’s rod as he squeezed. “That’s what I love about you, Baby Bat. You just keep gettin’ fucked and your response is just to beg for more. Hypersexuality? Hell of a way to cope.” His clawed hand slid further down, as he groped Raix’s balls. “But don’t worry, I love breathing in your own “ copium.” Raigengrau teased, as he unbuckled Raix’s belt and pulled, yanking the leather cord from his waist. “Funny to see ya’ submitting like this, Baby Bat! Thought I was gonna have to discipline you some more.” The doppelganger raised the belt high over his head and started to spin it around like a lasso. “Just like how Mommy SolHart used to discipline us, right?” He let the leather slip from his grasp, launching the belt off into a dark corner of the foyer.

Raix stifled a gasp, his touch-starved body reacting so easily to Raigengrau’s touch. “Just get it over with.” His voice trembled. He was furious at himself for letting his guard down.

“Why the rush? ‘Cuz we are going all-in tonight, Baby Bat! Trust me.” Raigengrau’s claws hooked around Raix’s waistband and pulled down the black trousers to rest around the vampire dragon’s thighs.

Nnngh..._shit.” Raix cursed under his breath, a blush appearing on his cheeks. Partially from embarrassment and also from the heat building up within him. His blue cock _throbbed, his sweet scent intensified. His perky-rear pointed towards the buttressed-ceiling of the grand foyer, Raix struggling to not just instinctively lift his tail for his doppelganger.

“Mmmm...oh yeah, Baby bat.” Raigengrau breathed in that sweet scent, filling his lungs with the stuff. “You know just how to make my mouth water…”

Raix clawed into the carpet, growling in shame. And desire. “...Gods_damn_ you, Raigengrau.”

The doppelganger licked his lips, audibly swallowing down the saliva that’s been building up inside his maw. “Nah, you love this shit.” He reached forward, grasping Raix’s newly-freed cock with a clawed hand.

This time, Raix couldn’t hold back.

F-fuck!” He sharply gasped. His eyes clenched together, teeth grit. “R-Raigen! Stop!” Raix’s low, theatrical baritone cracked again. It took all of his willpower to stop himself from moaning out.

“Why?” Raigengrau’s hand felt along Raix’s rock-hard length. “Ya’ scared? Scared to admit that you just adore it when I break you like this?” His thumb teased Raix’s cockhead as a web of precum leaked out over the clawed digit that toyed with his cockslit. “’Cuz you’re already wet, Baby Bat. Wet for _ me _ .

This humiliation...but this _ want ..._this _ NEED. ” Raix thought to himself. Tears stung his eyes. “_R-Raigengrau…” He choked back a sob.

“I know, Baby Bat...no need to spell it out for me.” Raigengrau purred, his hand gliding down Raix’s shaft near the base.

I always kn** o ***w.* ”

Suddenly, Raigengrau’s head snapped upward, his attention elsewhere. His eyes locked towards the arched ceiling of the foyer. Looking past the roof of the academy. Looking...

At you.

“Hey, fucksticks! It’s your favorite living shadow and Raix’s totally better-half here! Ya’ havin’ a good day? I know I am!” He winked. “Anyhoo, excuse the sudden intrusion on the Fourth Wall here, just a fun little thing I can do.”

“Who are you talking to?!” Raix hissed. “Stop that!”

“Shhh, adults are talking right now, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau purred. “We’re comin’ up to the end of the first part here. Already 4,600+ words? Whew!” He wiped his brow. “Gotta take my union-mandated absinthe break before I continue breaking open this little brat. Sorry for the sudden cut, just that ya’ gotta split these things up! Attention spans and all that jazz, ya’ know?”

Chapter Summary

Caught by his other half, Raigengrau, Raix remains pinned underneath the doppelganger and receives some rather "forceful" attention. Despite this, all Raix can think of is the past, when he was owned by his master and sire, Ketzgryf. “You know what, Baby Bat? I was wrong. I don’t think you were trying to get away from me earlier. I think you were runnin’ towards me. Lookin’ for your dear old buddy ol’ pal, Raiggy. Right?!” Raigengrau’s clawed hand began to slide up Raix’s shaft, pumping his length.

The vampire dragon squirmed, his back arching. “ R-RRRRAGH!!!” Raix howled. “P-please!” Every word that came out of Raix’s mouth eroded his dignity. “S-stop it! I can’t...I can’t be like this!”

Raix’s pre slicked Raigengrau’s hand, covering the length in the clear fluid. “Oh, yeah?” Raigengrau chuckled. “Gotta disagree with you, Baby Bat. Think I don’t know how much you need this?” He playfully squeezed the base of Raix’s cock, drawing out another whimper. “How much you need to be held? To be touched?”

His voice dropped to a hiss. “How much you need _ ME _?!”

“Fuck…” Raix tensed up. Fear, shame and arousal swirled about in his heart. “Raigen…”

“Ahhh, fuck it.” The doppelganger’s manic tone returned as swiftly as it left, his hand releasing Raix’s throbbing cock. “It’s not that big a deal. I mean, I’m only you, after all.” Raigengrau’s hands wandered near Raix’s rear. “Just don’t cry like you usually do after ya’ cum, Baby Bat. Kinda a mood killer.” He raised an eyebrow, his claws delicately spreading Raix’s cheeks apart, revealing the dark-blue tailhole. “Maybe that’s why ya’ like that stupid poet so much, the one who’s always sad about something. Is that why you have a thing for Marius? Does he know how depressed you are, deep-down? You’d probably give him a run for his money with how much you both cry.”

Raix glanced back at Raigengrau and held his hand up. For a moment, a spark of silvery-white flame formed. “Speak nothing of him!” Raix spat. “You’ll find out how I really feel when I- GAH!

He gasped as Raigengrau plunged his tongue deep inside rear. “Aaahh-FUCK!

A deep, throaty laugh escaped the doppelganger’s maw, his mottled tongue diving deep into Raix’s tailhole, the forked tip wriggling as the muscle writhed inside the passage, the sweet scent cloying in Raigengrau’s nostrils.

Slu~rp

The filthy wet soundsechoed in the halls of the foyer. Raix’s cock pulsed with each lick, precum leaking continuously from the tip of his rod. He could not only hear, but feel the growls coming from Raigengrau as he pistoned his tongue in and out of Raix’s butt.

Each lap, lick and slurp forced a groan of lust from Raigengrau’s throat. “Nnngh...’asty” He growled out, difficult to speak with his tongue plunged into Raix’s rear. In and out, the tongue hunting for every untouched spot, eager to savor the sweet honeyed vanilla that was Raix’s flavor and scent. The doppelganger hooked his claws around the torn and frayed pants he wore, shoving the ivory and crimson trousers down. His own scent mixed with his other half, cloying the air with sweet vanilla that mingled with Raix’s honey and Raigengrau’s rot, his cock throbbing with need as he ate out Raix’s ass, a bead of blackened pre forming at the tip of the ebony and azure tinted cock.

“G-gods…” Raix’s mismatched eyes gazed skyward, threatening to roll back into his head as Raigengrau’s tongue assailed him, the tip prodding against his prostate. “C-cease. No more of this.” The words automatically escaped his lips, desperately trying to retain some shred of his dignity and pride that had been torn apart by his living shadow.

Suddenly, the tongue withdrew, saliva leaking from Raix’s now-lubricated rear.

“Mmmm~hmm!” Raigengrau smacked his lips together, clicking his tongue. “Notes of, mmm...honey and vanilla. Shattered pride and dignity.” He theatrically sniffs the air. “Think I can detect bits of ‘defiant brat who wants it’ in there too. Oh, so subtle, but so good.” The doppelganger licks his chops, continuing his appraisal. “Yet, underneath all of that, there’s some clinginess! Oh, and there it is! An aftertaste of self-loathing, mommy-and-daddy-issues and a deep desire to be seen, loved and understood! Ooh!” Raigengrau shuddered as he gulped down his saliva. “Good stuff! Truly a complex aroma and flavor.”

“Go...go fuck yourself.” Raix breathed out, his neglected cock pulsing in time with his heart.

“Hey, that’s a great idea!” Raigengrau giggled wickedly. “See, ya’ get it? Cuz, I am you? And you’re me? One big happy family! Hehe.

His voice lowered again, distorting and twisting itself to sound like a dying radio broadcast. “Ya’ know, we could always have an audience.” Raigengrau growled. “We can wake up Marius. Would love to see the look on his face as I split your ass wide-open. Watch those blue-scales of his pale while I eat you alive-”

A flash of light, as Raix whirled around. Silver flames form in his right hand once again. Teeth grit, his furious eyes radiating pure hatred. A choir of desperate wails cry out, the source of his pyrokinesis being fueled with the souls of the fallen that he had previously devoured over centuries of violence. Fingers splayed as he thrust his arm towards Raigengrau’s face, the vampire dragon wordless with the sudden burst of anger.

With a laugh, the doppelganger swiftly ducked under the strike, his claws grasping Raix’s wrist mid-thrust. “Oh, you’re so predictable, Baby Bat!” Raigengrau snarled, lunging forward to force Raix onto his back, the flames guttering out between the vampire’s fingers. “That fiery temper of yours just adds so much spice!”

Raix attempted to lunge forward, jaws snapping. “You disgusting, foul creature!” His teeth clicked together with each snap of his fangs. “Do all you like to me! But never speak his name”

“Really love pressin’ those buttons of yours, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau smirked. “Just gives me more to play with. And we got all night to play.” His slick cocktip pressed against Raix’s tailhole.

The sudden look of shock on Raix’s eyes was deliciously arousing to Raigengrau.

Non…” Raix uttered in his home language. “Arrêtez. Stop.” His mind raced, the many nights of Ketzgryf looming over him in this exact position, the alabaster-scaled nightmare pressing his violet-colored tip against him. Just like this.

“Why?” Raigengrau’s tongue briefly snaked out. “Just a few moments ago, you were squirming when I was eating your pretty little ass.” He leans in, teeth bared in a wide grin, black ichor dripping from his gums. “You’re not getting flashbacks now, are ya?”

Raix’s mind, whether he wanted it to or not, raced with memories. Nightmares.

Every night was like this.

Heartless. Soulless. A hollow shell for Ketzgryf to insert himself into.

And if it wasn’t him, it was the rest of House Durantallyn.

The master’s pet.” “His favorite consort.” “The lord’s broken toy.”

He fought like hell once he was able to, biding his time to enact his ultimate revenge. And even then, it felt like a hollow victory for Raix. The terrible emptiness that was within Ketzgryf’s heart and soul never faded. It merely transferred to Raix upon the vampire lord’s death.

Raigengrau’s grip around Raix’s wrists was unyielding as he glared. “Every night, I saw you from his eyes. He gave you just enough of a leash to still feel. To still think. But not enough to resist.” The doppelganger’s black-tinted saliva dripped onto Raix’s face. “At first? You were scared shitless. Followed by sheer rage and defiance, but not enough to force him off. You then tried to enjoy it, trying to fool yourself that you loved this pain. And then? You gave up. You just stared. Didn’t say a single word. You just let him do whatever the fuck he wanted to do you. To us.

Raigengrau leaned in closely. “I was so...so furious that you just gave up.”

Something leaked from Raigengrau’s eyes. Not ichor. Something clear.

...Tears?

“Sure, you eventually grew enough of a pair to take some drastic measures with that Chaos Cunt, but you should have fought back long before that.” He paused, taking a deep breath, the same poor and unneeded habit that Raix always had done, back when he was mortal. “I felt it. I saw it. Every little moment of fear, anger and sorrow. And I got to see it all melt away.” A bitter laugh rose from the doppelganger’s depths. “Is that why you hate yourself, Raix? Why you try to ignore every attempt to feel happy about anything? Does happiness remind you of that bitter, broken smile on your lips when you were with Ketz?”

“Raigen...don’t do this.” Raix whimpered. “I can…” He shuddered. “I can fight through anything, but this. I can’t face what’s happened. I can’t face my own memories like this.” His own bitter chuckle matched Raigengrau’s. “...I can’t face you.”

Raigengrau froze. The confession was something he already knew in his blackened heart. But hearing Raix say the words. The bard that always put on a show filled with fireworks of fury and flame. Admitting to him just how broken he truly was.

He smiled. Jaws splitting apart in a wicked grin. His eyes unblinkingly stared into Raix’s own.

“... Then lets make some new memories, Baby Bat.”

Raigengrau drove his cock into Raix’s rear.

HNNNNGCK!!” Raix’s toes curled inside of his boots, his back arching with pain and unwanted arousal. His other half’s shaft forcing its way into his saliva-laden rear.

“Mmmm...I had a feeling you were tight, Baby Bat. Could tell when I was tastin’ ya’.” Raigengrau purred, his shaft splitting apart the walls inside Raix’s butt. The wet sound of his cock pushing into the lubed ass echoed in Raix’s ears as the vampire dragon growled with pain, shame and disgust.

“But I guess you’ve done a good job at keeping your guard up, Baby Bat. Either that, or you just haven’t been getting much action, huh?” Raigengrau cackled, fully inserting himself into Raix all the way to the hilt.

“Or maybe you’ve just been savin’ yourself for me?” The doppelganger wasted no time, as he pulled himself back to the tip, then rolled his hips forward as he slammed his cock back into Raix’s body.

Ha~aah!” Raix gasped. His eyes clenched with pain. “Non. Non, non, non, no, gods fucking no.” His thoughts were frantic, his heart raced. His stomach heaved with self-disgust. And yet, even through all of this, the worst part of it all…

“You’re leaking, Baby Bat…” Raigengrau let out a maddening giggle. “You want this. I know you do.”

NO, I DON’T!” Raix’s mind was at its limit. “ STOP!” He futilely struggled against Raigengrau’s grip against his wrists, his head twisting to the left and right, his body trembling with terror and denied lust.

The doppelganger hilted himself again into Raix, his crimson balls slapping against Raix’s similarly-colored testes. “ AHHH, _ YEAH! ” Raigengrau howled. “Already off to a _great start here! That’s more like it! Give me that fire, Baby Bat!”

Raix’s feet scrambled against the floor with enough force for his heel to catch. His right boot slipped off, his bare foot paw now exposed, the clawed toes digging into the carpet. Each thrust was another blow to his false dignity, the carefully crafted image of a sardonic bard who wished he could transform his centuries-long tragedy into his own personal triumph. And yet, here he was, leaking for the darkest half of his own soul that he fled from at the most pivotal moment of his miserable existence.

Every time Raix’s eyes gazed into Raigengrau’s, his mind flashed with terror. He couldn’t help, but remember. He saw not Raigengrau’s eyes, but someone else. He was in a familiar position, just like this, staring up into those ancient, empty violet and crimson eyes of Ketzgryf’s. Every. Single. Night.

A high-pitched noise filled Raix’s pointed ears. His throat strained with effort. His body tensed. It was a strange sound, one that he hadn’t heard in ages. Not since he was last under Ketzgryf.

It was the sound of Raix’s own scream.

Raigengrau threw his head back and parted his jaws as he howled out, feeling Raix’s tailhole tighten around his cock. “SCREAM FOR ME, BABY BAT! SING!_ _ The trio of distorted voices multiplied and became a vile, dissonant chorus as saliva and ichor splattered across Raix’s terrified face. The doppelganger gave no quarter, the cock working Raix’s ass like a machine, dripping his own blackened precum into the vampire dragon’s tight rear.

Raix’s scream devolved into broken sobs. His insides felt like they were being rearranged, torn apart, and pounded by the doppelganger’s cock. “Gods, stop! Get...get out!”

Through his tears, the shape of Raigengrau’s black scales distorted and faded. He kept seeing Ketzgryf’s sadistic sneer. He could smell the scent of cinnamon, the vampire lord’s old scent. He could hear Ketzgryf’s shuddering gasps, the same sound he made every time he came in Raix’s abused hole every night.

Evenings where he was pinned to the floor of the Astral Observatory of the academy. Night after night of charting the celestial heavens with Ketzgryf. Only for Raix to end up on his back. Used. Again.

Raix felt his stomach heave, the memory hitting him harder than any of Raigengrau’s brutal thrusts. His eyes rolled back-

AY! ” Raigengrau released his grip on Raix’s left wrist, snapping his claws together to get his attention, the vampire dragon too dazed to even fight back. “You thinking of that old fuck? That relic that kept us imprisoned? Well, snap outta it, Baby Bat! When I said we’re makin’ new memories, they’re gonna be memories with ME! ” He snarled, the discordant sound ringing in Raix’s ears. “Don’t you dare be thinking of him!”

Another thrust. Raix couldn’t move. His voice was hoarse from screaming, the sickness inside of his belly rising. Each pump of the doppelganger’s dick shocked the vampire’s nervous system, stealing away his strength, his heart, his sanity. His grasp on reality was already delicate, but now it was a delicate thread that threatened to twist apart into nothingness.

Images and sensations flashed. The sickening warmth of Ketzgryf’s touch. The sound of his voice.

Draga mea, you are mine for all eternity. You shall be my bright star amongst the storms.”

That moonlit evening in the library, when Marius brushed the tears from Raix’s eyes.

Mon ange, I see your pain behind it all. I am here.”

When he was mortal. Barely in his teens. A dragon barely surviving in the slums of Strasbourg. Just after he had buried father. His mother’s voice, always criticizing. Always venomous.

It should have been you. You’re the rat that deserved to die, not your father...”

Suddenly, clawed hands grasped his cheeks.

LOOK AT ME!”

The images faded. The scent of vanilla and rot filled his senses, the blue and black eyes glared intensely into Raix’s own.

Look. At. Me.” Raigengrau commanded, his differing tones harsh with distortion. “You think they matter? The ones who broke you? The poet who can’t go a day without crying himself to sleep?!”

His assault on Raix’s rear had paused, yet Raigengrau’s shaft still throbbed in the vampire dragon’s tailhole.

“I know everything about you, Raix.” The doppelganger’s lips just barely touched Raix’s as he leaned down towards his other half. “Every secret. Everything that makes you tick and scream. Even as you weep, you still feel for me.” His scarred belly pressed against the vampire’s shaft, pre smearing against his crimson scales. “You need me.”

“I don’t need you!” Raix’s could barely maintain his baritone, his voice cracking between choking sobs. “I need you to fuck back off into your mirror wonderland and leave me in peace! I was starting to come together until-” He suddenly yelped, Raigengrau snarling as he pulled back and SLAMMED his cock into Raix’s body, pushing against the raw flesh within.

Bullshit!” His jaws snapped in front of Raix’s face. “You live in your memories! In your tragic past. You’re just like me! You can’t let go!

Another choked whine from Raix’s throat, as Raigengrau’s pulsating cockhead ground against sensitive tissue. The vampire’s shaft tensed up, threatening to blow, as pleasure and agony fought on the battlefield of their shared spirits.

“You think you deserve peace?!” Raigengrau hissed, his shaft rasping against Raix’s insides. “For leaving me behind?! For leaving your own soul to rot?!!” He growled, the harsh distortion causing Raix’s bones to vibrate. “I want you to scream for me, every second of every day! And it’s not only ‘cuz I get off on it, Baby Bat!”

“It’s because I refuse to have you rot away in your own despair!” He continued. “I won’t let you just ‘live a peaceful life’!” He mockingly drawls, his pace increasing. Balls slapped against each other, as Raigengrau’s cock ravaged Raix. “Wherever you go, I will be there. To remind you of your failure in the shadows. To remind you of your own hatred and lust for blood and violence. To drag you down into the darkest depths of who you are, so you can find that GODSDAMNED spark of flame and defiance. That fire that makes us _ WHOLE! _

“S-shut up, you son of a bitch! F-fils de pute!” Raix spat. He tried to look away. Tried to disconnect himself from the world, much like how he did with Ketzgryf for so many nights.

Suddenly, Raigengrau reached down with his hand paw, tightly grasping Raix’s cock.

“And yet, you’re a fucking fountain for me.” With each thrust and pull, Raigengrau pumped Raix’s dick in time. “You bitch and moan all day and night. Oh, always so dramatic!”

The dual sensations of Raigengrau inside him, while jerking him off was pushing Raix to the limit. Pleasure. Pain. Misery. Euphoria. He could feel himself falling into the abyssal depths of Raigengrau’s sick, twisted game with each thrust and stroke. “R-Raigen…” He panted breathlessly.

“Hells yeah, Baby Bat!” The brutal thrusts were wracking Raix’s body. “Cum for me! Forget everything that ever hurt you! There’s only me now! Past, present and future!” Raigengrau cackled, his distorted, shuddering breaths like the waves of the ocean. “I’ll stoke that flame of yours, just to swallow it whole! Build you up, break you down, until you’re a gibbering, broken mess! Because you need it!”

G-Gahhhh!” Raix growled through gritted teeth.

“Scream for me, Baby Bat! Call out the only one you’ve ever needed in your pitiful existence!” Raigengrau roared out, as he slammed his cock into Raix’s body.

And for the first time all night, Raix truly saw and felt nothing else. His mind completely went blank. No fear. No joy. No Ketzgryf or his previous tormentors. No Marius and no hope of the poet and the bard penning sonnets together, each to work through their pain. Nothing.

It was only his other half.

R-Rai-...Raigengrau!!! Raigen-_ AHHHHHH~!!!” _

The scream tore through the halls of the academy. Jet after jet of Raix’s semen pulsed from the blue-flesh of his cock, spilling over his belly and Raigengrau’s hand.

YESSSSSS!” Raigengrau’s grin widened to an unhinged degree. “That’s right, Baby Bat! You know exactly who the most important person in your life is. ME! And it’s all thanks to you! The beautiful fucking mess that spawned me!” He became a force of nature, pistoning his cock in and out, fully hilting with each slam, his pace erratic. “You threw me away like trash! But now that you’re mine, I won’t ever let you get away again!”

The next slam into his rear, Raix felt Raigengrau’s cock swell inside his razed insides, the doppelganger milking out the dregs of the vampire’s oversensitive cock. “R-Raigen…” Raix could only breathlessly say the doppelganger’s name, sanity fractured beyond belief.

YOU CAN’T ESCAPE ME!!!”

With a roar, Raigengrau threw his head back, lost in rapture as he came inside Raix’s abused hole, his multi-layered cry shaking the stained glass windows of the foyer. Black-tinted cum pumped into the vampire’s rear, squirting deep into his depths. He could feel Raix’s muscles clench around his cock with each pulse.

The window depicting Ketzgryf embracing Raix in the foyer started to crack from the sheer volume of Raigengrau’s roar, a hairline fissure forming between the alabaster and ebony dragons.

His orgasm ebbing, Raigengrau collapsed on top of Raix. Two irregularly-beating hearts against each other. One submersed in darkest shadow, the other forged in brightest flame. The mottled cock of the doppelganger, still hilted within Raix, began to soften.

Raigengrau’s lips brushed Raix’s ear as he attempted to catch his breath. “...Good boy.” He smiled. The doppelganger pulled back some, his cock slipping out of Raix’s rear, the black-tinted semen leaking from the hole. He grabbed Raix’s shoulders and pulled him up into a sitting position, his hand caressing the vampire’s cheek.

Raix suddenly choked back a sob. “...Godsdammit.

Shhh…” Raigengrau rasped, his clawed fingers brushing through Raix’s tousled mane. “I’m here. No one, but me will ever hurt you, ever again.”

The words broke something in Raix. This strange, twisted affection…

Ketzgryf’s love was always about control. An unyielding grip of an artist wielding its paintbrush, looking to create the perfect portrait. Ketzgryf did everything he could to destroy Raix, to remake him in his own image, whether through biting words, indifference or his sadistic pleasures.

Raigengrau was a monster. A hunter steeped in darkness that could stalk Raix through any mirror, anytime and anywhere. And worst of all, Raigengrau was himself. His abandoned darkness and rage, a heart of black that beat with the same defiance within Raix.

And he understood Raix.

He is what I am. What I always have been, ever since I came into this world, since 1572...” Raix thought, trembling uncontrollably. He could barely hold on. The last layers of the defensive wall around his vulnerable, desperate heart fell apart, brick-by-brick.

He suddenly buried his face against the crook of his doppelganger’s neck...and cried.

Raigengrau sighed. “Oh, Baby Bat…” He shook his head. “...Still crying after finishing up, huh?”

Raix didn’t respond. The tears flowed freely. He sobbed, choked and whimpered. Closely guarded emotions being laid bare for the first time in centuries.

Gods, why.” He bitterly thought. “I hate him. I can’t stand him. He’s _ VIOLATED _ me. And yet, he’s the only one that sees the truth. The horrid truth that I am just as monstrous as he is. Because we’re the same.”

Raix clung to Raigengrau, unable to move, save for the sobs that tensed and wracked his body, the pain of his exposed heart far worse than any ache inside after being fucked by his other half.

Ketzgryf and his accursed, hollow kingdom ruined my life. Marius only can see the ghost of what I used to be. He could never even begin to see how deep my despair lies.” Raix thought, as he tried to compose himself. Already choking out another series of sobs. “But...he’s known me. Raigengrau...he’s always known me. Understands. And I hate that he knows it.”

Raigengrau’s hand slid down Raix’s back, pulling him close. “You’re so fragile, Baby Bat. So beautifully broken.” His claws caressed Raix’s body. “The show’s over for now. I’ll put you back together.”

Raigengrau looked up and past the academy’s walls again. At you. A tired, yet strangely affectionate smile on his face.

“Well, folks. As the old saying goes: ‘You break it, ya’ buy it.’ And he’s the best purchase I’ve ever broken.” Raigengrau chuckled, Raix unable to hear the words over the sound of his own sobs. “He’s a pain in my ass, but he always knows that I’m here. In his heart. Just needs a lotta maintenance. Like an old beat-down car you just can’t get rid of.” He winks at you, before turning his attention back to Raix.

“I love it when you cry.” Raigengrau nuzzled his snout against Raix’s forehead. “It’s a song I don’t get to hear that often in person. Usually, when I see you from the mirror, you’re just crying alone or getting drunk on those fancy Bordeaux’s you love so much.” He plants a kiss onto Raix’s head. Almost tender.

“Why are you like this? Why not just rip my soul out? And if you’re not going to, why do you play with my heart so?” Raix whimpered. Totally and completely stripped raw of his usual sardonic attitude that protects his weary self.

“Baby Bat, I could eat you alive in your sleep. You’d be powerless to stop me.” He leaned back, holding Raix’s shoulders, his eyes staring.

“Then is it just a game? Is that all it is to you?” Raix scoffed. “A game where every day, I’m reminded of just how deeply damaged I am?”

“No, stupid.” Raigengrau grasped Raix’s shoulders. “I want you to remember. For us.”

“...The fuck do you want me to remember?” Raix grimaced.

“Now, now...if I told you, that’d ruin the whole point of remembering it in the first place, Baby Bat. No cheating.” Raigengrau smirked.

“This is ridiculous.” The vampire tore his gaze away from Raigengrau’s. “I’m playing riddles with the fucking shadow that wears my face.”

Raigengrau’s hand reached out, swiftly grabbing Raix’s chin, pulling his muzzle back to face him, the doppelganger letting out a snarl.

“Don’t turn away from me.” Raigengrau growled. “What, just because you think you cried a few pretty tears and howled like a bitch, you’re able to walk away from this again? Nah, not this time. I’ve got you right where I want you.”

Raix pulled back away from Raigengrau’s grasp, his face scowling with disgust. “Ah, apologies for maybe believing that for half-a-second I could find solace from your torment. Perhaps it was wrong of me to assume you actually gave a shit.” Raix laughed bitterly. “’Remember’...remember what? A better life? A time when I was truly happy? So you can defile the memory in my dreams?”

“No.” Raix continued. “I-I’m tired, Raigengrau.” Raix looked away. “I’ve fought for so many years. Decades. Centuries. I’m sure if I make it to anywhere near Ketzgryf’s age somehow, I’d have to keep fighting. And for what? Just another day of misery? To be the lone flame that shines in the dark abyss? No matter how hard I try to keep the shadows at bay, they always come back. You always come back.”

Raigengrau didn’t say anything for a moment. He just listened, as his hands held Raix’s shoulders.

Well?” Raix sneered. “Where’s your foolish quip? Or have you finally run out of japes, mon ombre?”

The doppelganger remained silent, before a low, rasping chuckle rose from his chaotic, distorted heart.

“’Mon ombre…’ He repeated. “’My shadow…’ A fitting term isn’t it, Baby Bat?” Raigengrau blinked away the ichor in his eyes. Or, at least he thought it was his own oily substance.

“I am your shadow, just as much as you are mine, Baby Bat. Raigengrau hissed. “No matter how hard you try to deny it, how brutally Ketzgryf, the clan and this fucked-up world broke you, I AM you. And Raix, we FIGHT.”

The look on Raigengrau’s face was...alien. It wasn’t the usual manic grin, or a face of pure hatred. It was one of desperation. “We both fight because that’s all we’ve ever known, Raix. We hate what this world has done to us, ever since we popped outta Elysette SolHart. She hated the weakness in us. Father couldn’t live with himself. The streets and the wilderness sought to devour us whole and leave us forgotten and dead in a ditch. Ketzgryf saw a toy to break and turn into his little perfect art project, a faithful pet to rule the world with. Marius thinks of you as some kinda masked angel, when we’re both really just demons who want to dance in the ruins of the heavens.”

Raix sighed bitterly. “He’s my only chance-”

No, Raix. I am.” Raigengrau removed his right hand from Raix’s shoulder to gently caress his tear stained cheek. “And so are you. Both of us together are our only chance, Baby Bat.”

“...S-stop.” Raix shuddered, before he tried to put on a sardonic smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Gods, I hate it when you try to talk like this. Leave the drama to the bard.”

“Hah!” Raigengrau let out a sharp laugh. “You’d love that, wouldn’t you? The same performance you give everyone. Yet, no matter how witty or tragic your words were, the others never understood what was in the script. They never understood you. They only loved the sound of your voice, yet never listened to what you were really saying.”

The doppelganger’s hand now reached for the vampire’s, his clawed fingers wrapping around Raix’s grip. Each line, each callous, each scale...a perfect match, a perfect fit. A reflection of each other. “But I’ve always listened, Baby Bat. I listened to every single word and thought in your soul. Your violent hatred. The terrifying fear. The urge to give in and stop fighting, even when your heart could never truly stop. Because you’d rather suffer in pain than sleep forever in annihilation. Because you’re desperate to find meaning for your suffering. You refuse to lay down until you find out who’s responsible for your torture.”

Raigengrau leaned in closely, squeezing Raix’s hand, his voice a gentle whisper. The distortion, the harshness, it was all still there...but there was something different. “Do you know why it’s all so hard to bear, Raix? Why the emptiness inside you just keeps growing, even after all that’s happened? Because it’s me. Where I used to live within you. The abyss that you’ve tried to fill with wine, poetry, fucked-up relationships, strange beds and violence. But...the only thing that’s gonna fit in there is me, Baby Bat. Nothing else.”

“P-please...I can’t be…” Raix trembled. “I can’t cry like this again. Please…”

“Why? Are you ashamed of the truth?” Raigengrau’s other hand reached up, claws brushing Raix’s mane. “Ashamed of me being the mirror to your fractured soul?”

Raigengrau leaned in further, his lips almost brushing Raix’s.

“D-don’t...don’t kiss me…” Raix’s voice stuttered.

“My favorite little liar…” Raigengrau purred. “Let me put you back together, Baby Bat. Let me take you away from Leudraceia. From Europe. From the world. There’s a whole reality just for us, within the reflections of the mirror. A sanctuary where I can finally fix you, piece-by-piece. Where we can become whole again.”

Raix could see the glistening tears. His own. He could see Raigengrau’s.

“...Why can’t you just tell me that, Raigen?” Raix whispered. “Why...why do you always put me through all of this hell?”

“It’s why I’m the way I am, Baby Bat. I’m fucked up too. You’re my final piece. I gotta break through all these damned walls you put up around your heart. It’s the only way you’ll ever truly listen.” A smile. A genuine smile formed on Raigengrau’s muzzle. The expression was so profoundly wrong and beautiful all at once.

Raix stared blankly. He wasn’t quite sure what to think. What to do. He felt...hollow. The same kind of emptiness that roared within Ketzgryf when Raix saw the inner workings of his soul. The physical ache within his body was nothing compared to the agony of his exposed heart.

He should feel infuriated. Seeing the doppelganger that wears his face smile so warmly made Raix sick. He wasn’t sure the last time he even genuinely smiled and here was Raigengrau showing more emotion in one night than Raix had shown in the last year. He should fight back. It’s all a lie. Only a trap. Another nightmare.

But what then? Will the emptiness remain? Will it grow darker and all-consuming? Or maybe...

“...I-” Raix’s voice cracked.

“Boss, can we come out already? We’re bored of the chit-chat and sad boi in here is about to start pissin’ himself with fear”

A deep, yet teeny voice made Raix blink, snapping him back to reality and away from the strange thoughts inside of his head. “...You didn’t.” Raix growled.

Raigengrau’s smile faded, the doppelganger rolling his eyes. “What do ya’ want me to do, Baby Bat? They stick with me all the time.”

Bosssssss!” The voice called out again, the sound emanating from the pocket of Raigengrau’s frayed jacket.

“_ Oh GODS, oh GODS! IT’S SO DARK IN HERE! GET ME OUTTA THE POCKET!” _ A hysterical voice joined in with the other, the tone strangely similar to Raix’s own voice.

“Alright, already!” Raigengrau jammed a hand paw into his pocket. He rummaged around inside, as voices screamed and cried out in terror. “If you shit yourself in my jacket, I’m gonna shit on you!” He yanked two tiny, writhing figures out.

“Oh, merdé” Raix facepalmed, sighing in disgust. “Aren’t those supposed to be within the mirror or your stomach, Raigengrau?”

In the doppelganger’s hand the two figures appeared to have black and red scales, as well as a mane of white hair. Both of them completely nude and about four inches tall. One of them kicked his legs angrily. The other was flailing his arms around, alternating between screaming sobs and hysterical cries.

Two micro clones of Raix from another reflection. Different timelines and worlds.

“Hey, I keep some of ‘em in my pocket for easy access, Baby Bat!” Raigengrau’s manic grin returned. “Doc says I can get some health problems if I keep barfin’ up clones to fuck with ya’.”

“Oh, lovely.” Raix glared at the two screaming miniature creatures within Raigengrau’s hand. The mismatched eyes, the hair, the similarly-built bodies...“Ugh, just looking at them makes me hate myself even more.”

“As if you could loathe yourself any more, Baby Bat.”

Chapter Summary

The arrival of the other variants of Raix, from other Reflections (parallel timelines/worlds within the mirrors of the world, that Raigengrau can travel through) makes things a bit awkward. Especially when they're small. Along with the fact that Raigengrau usually keeps a few in his stomach.

They might be a bit too much for Raix to swallow down...

“If ya’ keep shakin’ us around like that, we’re gonna hurl, boss!”

The two micro clones of Raix in Raigengrau’s hand were all a fever. One attempting to manage the situation, the other…

“STOP IT! OH GODS! STOP!” The other clone was inconsolable as it cried, screamed and hyperventilated.

“...This really isn’t me from the other reflections, right?” Raix sighed as he glared at the pair.

“Baby Bat, there’s almost an infinite number of different reflections. Odds are, there’s gonna be some stinkers.” Raigengrau ignored the clone’s protests in his claws as he kept shaking them. “Many different yous, Ketzgryfs’, Marius’, etc, etc.”

“And how many have multiple versions of you, Raigengrau?” Raix delivered a piercing gaze with his mismatched eyes. “Just in case I have to suffer more of you.”

“Only one of me, Baby Bat!” Raigengrau held his head high, smiling triumphantly. “Just me! Born from your colossal fuck-up! A very unique walking disaster!”

“This is why I hate trying to think of what’s beyond this world.” Raix facepalmed. “Too many godsdamned variables to think about when I am just trying to deal with my own nonsense here.”

“Most of your nonsense is already dealt with, stupid.” Raigengrau pointed his free finger at Raix’s snout. “You just need to accept me. Accept that we’re one and the same. Open up your locked-up heart a bit. Otherwise, I’m gonna keep payin’ you visits in your dreams to break your pretty little ass.” The doppelganger licked his chops, the sight making the panicking Raix clone scream again.

“Oh, please!” Raix had half a mind to bite the clawed finger in his face. “It’s all just you manipulating my emotions. Think I’m going to just let you win all of a sudden because you breached my heart and saw how I really feel?” Raix spat to the side. “No chance. Soon as I say ‘yes’, you’ll eat my soul and body-jack me. I’m fucked-up as is. I don’t need you wearing me like a sock.”

“And what, you’re just gonna deny it all? Completely fuckin’ reject what we talked about tonight?” Raigengrau leaned in, lowering his voice. “Do you want me to fuck you up again, Raix? ‘Cuz I’ll keep doin’ it till you finally get it through your thick fuckin’ skull-”

Boss…” The calm clone tried to interject, his legs dangling over the long fall to the floor of the academy. “Is he givin’ you problems? Maybe we can rough ‘em up a bit?”

Mes dieux…” Raix rolled his eyes. “You’re only 4-inches tall and the other one is having a near-constant panic attack. The only thing you’re going to ‘rough up’ are my boots, once you end up underneath.”

“Hey, some people are into that, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau waggled his eyebrows. “Probably would prefer to use your bare paws though-”

Not again…” Raix growled.

“Well, fine. You wanna play hard-to-get? Let’s keep goin’” Raigengrau stashed the calm clone back into his pocket, the crying clone still in his grasp, the micro flailing itself around and around as it was brought up towards the doppelganger’s face. A wide grin formed on Raigengrau’s muzzle before he opened his maw, revealing the mottled black-and-blue flesh inside his mouth, throat dilating widely as the doppelganger exhaled.

“_ NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! _ NOT AGAIN! IT’S DARK! SCARY! HELP MEEEEE!” The panicked clone seemed to have an understanding of where exactly it was about to go. It continued to scream, the sound shrill in Raix’s ears.

STOP SCREAMING!” Raix barked at the micro. “I do not scream-” He caught himself, earlier events still fresh in his mind. “-I do not scream like that.” His head ached again, less from physical or emotional trauma, moreso due to the noise.

Oh gods, what’s happening, don’t eat me, please don’t do it, don’t!” The micro continued its caterwauling. “I don’t wanna die, I don’t wanna diiii~IIIIIEEEEEE-”

-** NOMPH-**

Raigengrau silenced the screaming micro as it disappeared behind his jaws. His muzzle worked, tongue toying with the micro, the muscle pressing the creature against the ridged roof of his maw, grinding it back and forth underneath the miniature version of Raix.

Lewd, wet noises escaped from Raigengrau’s maw as he suckled on the micro. “Mmmph…” The doppelganger purred. “See...if you just...slurp on ‘em hard enough...they shut the fuck up.”

As soon as he finished his words, the micro started to panic again, babbling and pleading for its life. Raigengrau muted the micro with a prolonged slurp, his broad blue-and-black mottled tongue tossing the small dragon around inside of his mouth like a piece of hard candy.

Lips worked, as low growls of pleasure escaped from Raigengrau’s throat. His jaws parted occasionally as he toyed with the micro. Giving Raix the perfect view of what was going on inside.

Raix grimaced with disgust. He often witnessed Raigengrau eating the micro versions of himself, as a method to catch Raix off-balance. The sight always made Raix’s stomach twist into a knot.

Yet, he felt a strange heat on his cheeks. His arousal stirred again.

What in the hells are you thinking, Raix? Stop it.” He attempted to quell the thoughts inside of his head.

But he couldn’t look away. Raix’s eyes focused entirely on the sight of Raigengrau’s little feast. Strands of saliva and ichor creating translucent pillars and webs within the mouth, the strands snapping each time the doppelganger capes his jaws. The forked tip of the mottled tongue snaking out occasionally to lick his lips, using his tongue to smother the face of the whimpering micro.

Raigengrau’s eyes met Raix’s, as he caught his other half staring into his mouth, like he was stuck in a trance. The corners of his lips turned upward in a lewd, semi-open mouthed smile.

Nnnngh...good...real sweet.” Raigengrau growled with lust, his tongue undulating underneath the micro, pistoning and pushing him back towards the rear of the maw.

The micro version of Raix kicked his legs, feeling the bumpy taste buds underneath his body and the curve downward at the back of the mouth, Raigengrau’s uvula brushing against his tail. He frantically tried to grasp the tongue underneath his body in an attempt to anchor himself against it. Each attempt, his claws slipped, his digits drenched with saliva and Raigengrau’s black oily substance.

“No, no, no, no, no…” The micro dragon whimpered, tears streaking down its face. “P-please don’t...don’t eat me!”

The micro got a last look at the outside world, framed by the ivory stalactites and stalagmites that made up Raigengrau’s teeth. Each breath caused the uvula that spilled over his back to jiggle with life, the sweet rot that made up the doppelganger’s scent overwhelming to the miniature dragon. His eyes met with the blue and red of Raix’s, the original version of the vampire dragon staring in fear, awe and unwanted lust at the sight.

“W-why aren’t you helping me?!” The micro pleaded with his bigger self. “H-he’s gonna eat me, please! Don’t let me die like this!!!

Raix froze, a sharp pain rising up from his heart at the words. The micro, an alternative version of himself from another reflection had his own life. His own dreams. All about to be cut short in just one swallow.

And all Raix could do was watch in awe, whilst Raigengrau relished both the taste of the micro and of his other half’s arousal.

Rrrrgh…” Raigengrau purred, his tongue vibrating below the micro. He could feel the little creature’s legs dip over the back of his tongue. Teasing the entrance to his throat.

The micro tried to clamber up the tongue, as it felt itself begin to slip back towards the darkness of the black and blue gullet, the uvula against his back. “P-please...n-no!”

Raix unconsciously licked his lips as he watched the scene, the sweet scent of his own arousal wafting into his nostrils.

As Raigengrau kept his jaws open, the micro’s eyes never left Raix’s.

W-why are you..._ betraying _ me like this?”

Suddenly, the tongue arched, muscles relaxed and contracted. A pathetic cry of despair erupted from the micro’s throat, its pleading eyes trying to still meet Raix’s own visage, before all that was left was its flailing arms, desperate to pull itself back from oblivion. The clawed hands reached for the mottled uvula, only to slip further into the tight embrace and-

“Mmmnngh..._ glrrrrk _

The wet swallow was deafening to Raix, as he watched the miniature version of himself disappear from view, the bulge descending the scarred neck of his doppelganger. The muffled cries fading away entirely as it vanished past Raigengrau’s collarbone.

“Ah, serenity now.” The doppelganger breathed a sigh of relief, licking his chops and smacking his lips together. “Some of the different reflections of you are a real pain in my ass, Baby Bat. Almost more than you are. Sometimes, ya’ just gotta send’ em down the gullet for a time-out.”

Raix was speechless. Unsure of what to say. All he could imagine was the micro’s crushing despair and sheer terror, as it was pushed into Raigengrau’s gut to await its fate in the acidic nightmare.

But he just couldn’t shake that sensation. The feeling of possession. That the micro is now a part of Raigengrau. Forever.

“What’s on your mind, Baby Bat?” Raigengrau gave Raix a wink, as he reached for the other micro in his pocket that he stashed earlier. “You look like you just saw something horrible happen to someone that looked just like you!” He sniffed the air, the scent of Raix’s arousal still thick. “Oh! Either that, or you just love getting off to watching yourself die.” Before Raix could respond, a small belch escaped his throat. “Oh, shit.” Raigengrau covered his muzzle with a hand, an innocent smile on his face. “’Scuse me, heh. The whiny ones like to kick a lot.”

“Hey, boss, do we gotta update the roster? Is that cryin’ one comin’ back? I can’t stand that guy.” The other clone of Raix that Raigengrau was holding spoke up. “Always bitchin’ about somethin’ that one was.”

Nah.” Raigengrau chuckled. “That one’s gone for good. And besides, you got even bigger problems to worry about right now.” The doppelganger narrowed his eyes at the micro, before he glanced at Raix, a twinkle in his blue and black eyes as he formed a wicked plan.

Raix sighed, shaking his head. “Well, I think it’s time for me to go back to my room and drink myself into a coma-”

Raigengrau suddenly lunged, cutting off Raix, the vampiric dragon yelping as he was slammed against the floor. Again.

“Where, oh where, do you think you’re goin’, Baby Bat?” Raigengrau purred, looming over Raix, holding the squirming clone in his grasp. “You’re a part of this too, ya’ know!”

Ugh! ” Raix writhed underneath his doppelganger. His eyes stared up at the miniature version of himself just dangling over his muzzle.

“Boss, I don’t like this!” The micro-Raix clone’s eyes widened, his panicked gaze staring into Raigengrau’s blue and black eyes. “You’re up to somethin’ weird!”

“Nuh-uh. Ain’t nothin’ weird about feeding you to the very original version of yourself.” Raigengrau giggled.

“_ WHAT?!” _ Both Raix and the micro-dragon echoed at once.

“Did I fuckin’ stutter?” Raigengrau raised an eyebrow.

“I am not eating that.” Raix glared.

“’That’? I have a name, ya’ know!” The micro kicked his legs at Raix, the vampire responding by suddenly snapping his jaws right in front of the clone’s paws, teeth clacking together. The micro yelped, pulling his legs up towards his body. “Woah! Careful! Someone could get hurt!”

A moment passed.

“Nice chompers, though.” The micro finished its thought, as Raix groaned with annoyance.

“See?” Raigengrau hovered the micro closer towards Raix’s snout. “Look how hungry you are. Already chompin’ at the bit, Baby Bat.”

“I just want that damn facsimile of me to shut the fuck up.” Raix snarled. “I don’t know what pisses me off more right now; you or these pathetic copies of myself that you collect like cards.”

“Okay, and you know how ya’ get ‘em to be quiet?” Raigengrau started, only for Raix to cut-in.

NO, I’m not eating him to get him to shut up!”

The micro shrugged. “Welp, you heard ‘em, boss. We should get packin’.”

Raigengrau narrowed his eyes at the micro. He glanced at Raix, then back at the micro. And once again towards Raix, a plan formulating in his twisted mind. “... __Eh.”

The doppelganger’s jaws parted, his vanilla and rot-scented breath filling the air as he lazily tossed the micro towards his maw.

“_ BOSS?! ” The small clone yelped as it sailed through the air. “ WAIT, WHAT DID I DO- _”

The jaws shut, muffling the micro’s complaints.

Raigengrau smirked, tongue working around the micro in his maw, as he leaned in towards Raix, their muzzles almost touching.

Raix widened his mismatched eyes, his pointed ears perking at the muffled sounds within Raigengrau’s mouth. “Raigen, what the-”

Lips pressed against his own. Technically, his own lips, as the doppelganger kissed the vampire.

Mmmrph!” Raix’s cheeks burned, a mixture of embarrassment and arousal filling his veins. He couldn’t move. Couldn’t flee. Once again, he was pinned underneath Raigengrau, stuck underneath the monster that wore his face.

It wasn’t gentle. Raigengrau’s lips practically crashed against Raix’s, like the ocean’s incessant waves at the cliffside. “Mmmphmmmmhhhngh…” The low, distorted groan from the doppelganger vibrated the bones in Raix’s body, his clawed hands gripping the vampire’s cheeks.

Raix could feel his arousal grow again, pressing against Raigengrau’s scarred belly. His thick vanilla and honey scent now mixing in with Raigengrau’s own vanilla, yet his other half’s rot lay hidden underneath the sweetness of it all.

The cries of the micro inside Raigengrau’s maw persisted, a disturbing chorus as they kissed.

Raigengrau’s tongue slipped between his lips, the forked tip demanding entrance into Raix’s maw. Without a second thought, the vampire complied. Raix’s arms reached around Raigengrau’s back, clinging closely to the doppelganger.

Hatred, lust and shame warred within Raix. “I...why do I keep…” The words flashed through his mind. “I can’t give in like this, but...I...feel so close to him.”

A new feeling began to rise within Raix. One that terrified him more than anything.

Affection.

Raix thought of Raigengrau’s earlier smile. The promise to put him back together again. That, despite everything, even the violations against his body, he felt closer to someone than ever.

To himself.

How fucking ridiculous and pathetic…” Raix thought.

As Raigengrau’s tongue invaded Raix’s maw, something else slipped in with it.

“_ BOSS!!!!” _ The micro screamed as he was forced into Raix’s muzzle.

Raix jerked suddenly, trying to snap himself out of his foolish heart’s desire for connection. “_ NNNGH!! _” Raigengrau’s grip against his cheeks tightened, claws drawing blood.

“Gotta get ya’ to open up somehow, Baby Bat…” The doppelganger broke the kiss with a smirk.

The micro writhed on Raix’s tongue. He could feel it flail around inside of his mouth, bare feetpaws attempting to find purchase on the muscle, the clone shoving his hands against the ridged roof of Raix’s maw in a futile attempt to pry open his jaws.

The worst part of it all was the taste. The miniature version of himself from another reflection, another part of this wide universe of nonsense within the mirror that Raigengrau frequently went on and on about…

...he was absolutely delicious.

Notes of vanilla and honey caused Raix’s tastebuds to tingle with pleasure. He could already feel his mouth begin to water, saliva drenching the scales of the micro inside of his maw. “Got to...gotta get him out!” Raix tried to think clearly, trying to ignore the weight on his tongue, the urge to savor.

Raigengrau leaned back in for another kiss.

The tongue invaded Raix’s maw again, brushing up against his own. “Nnngh…Rrrgen…” He tried to say Raigengrau’s name through his full mouth.

The doppelganger answered him with a low growl, Raigengrau chuckling lowly as his tongue played against Raix’s own, curling around the complaining micro inside the vampire’s maw. “Mmmm…” His muzzle pressed against Raix’s, forcing his partner’s head against the floor. “...Baby Bat.” Raigengrau moaned, the sickly sweet scent growing ever thicker.

-Glrp-

Raix swallowed the saliva that had been building up inside his muzzle, suckling eagerly on Raigengrau’s tongue and the micro. His lips pursed, tongue coiling around the body inside, the doppelganger’s forked tip teasing the clone’s clawed toes. His tail coiled around his own leg, one of those foolish habits Raix always had ever since he was a child.

Raigengrau felt the minute movement of the tail against his leg. His own tail poked and prodded against Raix’s coiled limb, slipping underneath to curl around the vampire’s tail. His grip against Raix’s cheeks lessened, turning his touch into a caress.

The vampire whimpered pathetically, the tender and possessive gesture making his cock throb as he leaked precum again, fluids smearing against the doppelganger’s body.

Please...make me forget the pain.” Raix thought, trembling as Raigengrau’s tongue explored his maw. The mottled flesh brushed against his sharp teeth and ivory fangs, mapping out the soft, slick and spongy surface of his tasting muscle, then pressing against the flesh that made up the inside of the smooth, azure-colored cheeks.

The vampire embraced his doppelganger, claws sinking into the ruined academy uniform he used to wear, the white and red jacket now sitting on Raigengrau’s shoulders. A taunting reminder of the night Ketzgryf turned Raix. A nightmare that vividly played in his head over and over again.

As Raix clung to Raigengrau’s body, that horrible memory was being overtaken by this very moment in time.

The doppelganger broke the kiss again as he grinned down at Raix, a string of saliva connecting their muzzles. “You feel it, don’t ya’?” Raigengrau murmured. “Me, breakin’ ya down, bit-by-bit. Every second our lips lock, every time your heart beats for me, every thrust I give to ya’ when you think you don’t want it…” His clawed hand drifts down to Raix’s chest, over his heart. “...Every moment of me shattering those silly defenses of yours. One. By. One.” He punctuated each word with a tap against Raix’s scales.

Raix whined, the sound drawing out a wicked giggle from Raigengrau, as he watched the vampire savor the miniature form inside of his mouth. “Thought you could be a selfish prick and run away from it all…” Raigengrau’s clawed hand stroked down Raix’s belly as he continued. “...and what did it get you? It only made the gaping hole inside ever deeper.” He nuzzled Raix’s lips, the doppelganger letting out a sound akin to a purr. “And now? You’re filling it up with me. With that little echo inside of your maw. Filling up the hole, with yourself.” Raigengrau suddenly grasped Raix’s dick, squeezing the head of the shaft playfully.

Before Raix could gasp, Raigengrau’s lips pressed against Raix’s again, his tongue diving in and coiling around the micro, prying him loose and scooping him up and out from between the lips.

Ugh! Boss, thanks for helpin’ me get outta there-” The micro started to say as soon as he breached Raix’s lips, his scales glistening with saliva. “You’re gonna put me down, right? Think I need a break from all this-”

Raigengrau rolled his eyes at the micro’s words, his jaws snapping shut as he trapped the small thing inside of his muzzle. He quickly went to work on the squirming creature, tongue pressing the clone against the roof of his maw as he eagerly suckled on him like a living piece of hard candy.

“Thought that was mine…” Raix muttered.

The words made Raigengrau pause.

The doppelganger then forced the micro against his inner cheek, so he’d be able to speak freely.

“Then come get it, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau taunted.

The vampire wasted no time. His lips were upon the doppelganger’s immediately.

The kiss was sloppy. Wet. Lewd. The sound of Raix’s mouth against Raigengrau’s echoed, desperate slurps filling the air.

I love him when he’s like this...so broken that he finally shows me just who he REALLY is..” Raigengrau thought as he chuckled deep in his throat, the whining micro in his maw caught in the maelstrom between the mottled tongue and Raix’s invasion. The doppelganger could feel Raix’s claws begin to tear into the tattered white uniform, blood and ichor welling up at the pointed tips.

The two fought, tongues coiling and dancing around each other and the small morsel in Raigengrau’s maw. The micro’s protests went unheard, as the two halves of the same being warred over the small creature. Raix’s forked tip smothering the micro’s face, cutting off its oxygen and its ability to complain. Raigengrau’s tongue undulating as he continued to suckle, both over the micro and Raix’s tongue, the muscle rising and falling like a wave.

Rrrgh..._ RAGH! _” Raix let out a sharp growl, as Raigengrau eased his hold on the micro.

The vampire curled his tongue around the miniature creature, like an eager boa that had just ensnared its prey. He jerked his head back, drawing the clone away from Raigengrau’s muzzle and into his own.

WAIT, BOSS! THIS ISN’T HOW THINGS SHOULD GO!” The micro-version of Raix tried one last time to voice its concerns. Saliva and ichor mixed, drooling down Raix’s chin and along his neck.

The micro disappeared with a slurp. Raix’s lips twisted into a smirk. His tongue worked like a piston, forcing the little creature towards the back of his maw, closer to his gaping throat.

Raigengrau could only smile as he watched. His cock weeped pre and ichor at the sight.

“NO! DON’T DO THIS TO ME!” The micro clamored inside the vampire dragon’s maw. He felt the tongue underneath widen as he was pushed towards the throat.

The thick end of Raix’s uvula slapped against the micro’s forehead. His body fit perfectly in the central groove of the tongue, the muscle beginning to arch as Raix prepared to gulp down the offending little monster.

Gods...so good.” Raix thought, tilting his head back. “...Did I always taste this good?”

The micro dragon’s snout pressed against the tight epiglottis, his tail flicking against the heavy uvula, his paws tickling Raix’s tonsils.

Nnngh...GLRK!”

Raix swallowed. Or well, as best as he could.

Mmf... _H~CK!__ ”_ The crushingly tight embrace of Raix’s throat spasmed, with walls of muscle rippling over the micro inside his esophagus, threatening to push the clone back up as Raix choked. “_ Hurrrk! _” Raix bared his teeth with effort as he gagged.

Raigengrau facepalmed. “Oh, for cryin’ out loud, Baby Bat!” He pressed his hand against Raix’s throat. “Guess you ain’t used to gulpin’ down stuff other than wine, huh?”

Raix’s body tensed, tears stinging his eyes. “Nngh...glp

The next swallow barely moved the micro at all, even as pressure clenched all around the clone inside of his throat. Saliva, mucous and other fluids seeped into the tiny creature’s scales, as rippling muscles massage and squeeze all over the micro. He could feel the heavy pressure from Raigengrau’s thumb against Raix’s throat.

“Don’t tease him, Baby Bat! Swallow!” Raigengrau growled, feeling for the larynx, the Adam’s apple trembling as Raix struggled to work down the micro, the bulge from outside the vampire’s neck squirming violently.

Hrr-rrk!” Raix groaned, the forceful push of Raigengrau’s touch against his throat and the micro inside of his esophagus made him wince with pain.

The muscular tube of flesh that contained the micro relaxed, as the thick layer of fluids coated his scales like a layer of syrup. The walls around the micro quiver, twitch and shudder, the heartbeat inside pounding away like a drum with a strange rhythm, the shuddering breaths of the vampire dragon’s useless lungs roared like a great bellows.

Raigengrau sighed with annoyance, one hand on Raix’s throat still, the other cradling his cheek. “Come on, Baby Bat. You can do it. Get that piece of us down inside you. Take him whole!” With his hand on Raix’s cheek, he abruptly tilted the vampire’s head back, pressing against the larynx once again.

Nnmmfgh…”

The muscles clench, seizing around the micro like a vice.

_ -GLLLURRRRRK!- _

The lump, finally dislodged, traveled down Raix’s throat to disappear into his body.

Raix let out a sigh of relief. “H-haah...phew…

He could still taste that sweet flavor, that delicious honey and vanilla. His flavor. It lingered on his tongue. On his lips. In his saliva. He found himself unconsciously licking his chops, swallowing down the sweetness.

As soon as he felt the weight within his belly, the realization hit him like a truck.

Oh gods...what did I just do?

The thought made Raix sick to his stomach. The clone of himself from another reflection writhed and squirmed. He could hear and feel his gut growling, getting ready to go to work on the meal inside.

He smacked his lips again, absentmindedly. “Still delicious…” Raix shuddered with a mixture of horror and lust at the thought. “Is this...is this what it’s all amounted to? The final act, the curtain call. Raped by my own shadow. Swallowing down tiny copies of myself?! Falling in love for the same monster that violated me so?!!”

A hysterical giggle rose from Raix’s throat, as his eyes widened. The thought was so utterly ridiculous and insane. He had seen mind-bending things from his pact with the Chaos God, yet this feeling of total surrender after everything he’d been through was breaking his spirit apart.

A muffled scream sent vibrations through his belly. The acids had already begun to eat away at the micro.

H-his soul too...will I take his soul too, now that he’s inside of me?!” The shock only fueled Raix’s laughter. His mind blanked. His vision blurred. The squirming inside reached a fever pitch as the micro thrashed about within.

He heard nothing. Felt nothing. The final lifeline that was his sanity frayed to a narrow point, threatening to lose itself within the abyssal depths of his broken mind.

And then...his laughter.

Raigengrau’s hands pressed against Raix’s cheeks, the doppelganger giggling madly with Raix.

The vampire dragon could only respond in kind, his giggling evolving into a cackle, with Raigengrau following his lead. Raix clung to Raigengrau’s body, never having let go since he had embraced him earlier, their bodies shuddering with wild, pained laughter. Continuing on for what felt like hours.

No words needed to be exchanged. Only their amusement filled the halls of Leudracyte Academy. The students and monsters of the occult school that heard the sounds from the Grand Foyer that night had refused to set foot in there, having thought madmen had taken over the institution.

The line in Raix’s mind, frayed as it was, held. Of all things, it held because of his living shadow. His other half.

Himself.

The laughter died down, the two staring into each other’s eyes. The squirming within Raix’s belly weakened, the micro succumbing to its digestive fate.

“...Oh, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau purred. “I love you when you’re like this. Bared for the world to see. Showing off exactly who you are.

Raix couldn’t take his eyes off Raigengrau’s. “...I’m a mess.” Raix muttered bitterly.

We’re a mess, Raix.” Raigengrau playfully pinched the vampire’s cheek. “And that’s fine. We don’t need to put on a show all the damn time. We just need to be who we truly are. No matter how fucked up our face looks, we’re gonna show the world what we’re made of.

He pokes at Raix’s gurgling stomach with his free hand. “Ketz wanted to hollow you out. A vessel for his foolish dreams of bending the world to his will. One who played games with you, claiming he loved your fire, your defiance. All he was doing was manipulating you to bring it out of you, Raix.” His hand caressed Raix’s stomach, occasionally feeling the twitch of a dying creature inside, the muscle spasms disturbing to Raix and delicious to Raigengrau. “Its why he punished you, whenever you went too far. He wanted you to rebel, but only if it fit his design.”

“But not me, Baby Bat.” The conviction in Raigengrau’s words were thick, the distortion inside his triple-layered voice growing with static. “Whatever sick shit that bastard put in your head, I’m going to tear it out of you. Even if it hurts. We’re going back to zero, Raix. Back to the beginning. I’ll make you proud of me. I’ll make you proud of yourself. Something that, when together, we truly will be fuckin’ unstoppable.”

“_ Whole _. We’ll be whole again.”

Raigengrau’s words echoed in Raix’s ears. He trembled. Not with fury, but with the uncertainty of a child. He was so damn tired. Exhausted. His body and mind a complete ruin, the endless fight within that he was feared for just having been completely drained from his soul. The carpet underneath felt cold. The moonlight that filtered through the stained glass was blinding. His heart ached with a pain that made it difficult to focus.

He wanted to just let go. To fall into the arms of his doppelganger and just trust him. Completely and wholly.

The nights flashed back. The first night he had seen his own reflection in the mirror for the first time in centuries. The awe of seeing himself again. Turning to shock the very moment the reflection twisted itself into Raigengrau’s current features, before bursting through the mirror to attack him. The sheer rage from his doppelganger, the anger of being abandoned. The sudden horror in Raix’s heart, how even back then, it was difficult to raise his hand against Raigengrau. From seeing himself, having fallen so far.

Or was I the one that just plunged into the abyss?” The bitter thought remained in his head. “Was I just the one that stole your life? A vampiric monster that stole the body of its rightful owner?”

“Baby Bat…” Raigengrau’s words snapped Raix out of his thoughts. “...you’re thinkin’ again, aren’t ya’? Overthinking, in fact.”

Raix looked away to the side. Embarrassed. Ashamed. Of his own feelings towards his shadow.

“We gotta get you outta the dark corners of your mind, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau’s tongue clicked, making a “tsk” noise. “It’s fine if it’s dark, but at least let me join you in the shadows. So you ain’t alone.”

Raix stared listlessly. Listening, but unsure of what to say.

It would be nice to be with someone who understands. Understands, in more ways than I can think of.” Raix thought. “...He understands.

The defiance, the fear, the anger inside of Raix’s heart, roared in a final bid for survival. “Fight him. Get up. You’re just going to end up being used again. You have to keep your guard up at all times. You still have a chance!”

But Raix couldn’t move. Couldn’t find the righteous anger, the firey will that kept him alive for so long. The wildfire that burnt all to ash before he could get hurt again.

He was tired.

And on the cold floor, in this foyer of glittering moonlight, the only thing that seemed warm right now was right in front of him. He could see Raigengrau clearly. The black and blue eyes unblinking. But…

...worried.

The concern on his doppelganger’s face was the final blow to Raix’s heart. The tip of the spear that finally breached the bastion he kept his emotions locked away in.

Raix almost started to cry again, but there was nothing left in him. At most, a dry sob croaked from his sore throat. The fire gone in his blue and crimson eyes. Only the exhaustion of one that had been pushed beyond their limits, and kept pushing, until they were at risk of eroding away completely. The false pride had been shattered into pieces, leaving behind the visage of a broken person, Raix having been finally, truly seen.

“...Is it too late?” Raix uttered. “...For us?

The question made Raigengrau freeze. Every single fiber of his being held still as he hovered over Raix. Even the distorted rasp that made up his breathing was silenced. The hollow feeling inside, the exact mirror of emptiness that matched Raix’s, was quieted. Utterly absent of any form of anger towards his abandonment. No longer trying to break Raix down or even pleading with him to just _ listen _ and acknowledge him.

The doppelganger lowered himself, his muzzle brushing up against Raix’s. And he smiled. That same expression from earlier, devoid of manic madness. Just...him. Just Raigengrau.

“It’s never too late for us, Baby Bat. I’d wait until the end of time to be whole with you.”

Chapter Summary

No matter how hard he tries, Raix's mind always drifts back to the past. Back to his captivity when he was Ketzgryf's "pet". Raigengrau's methods to break Raix away from these thoughts are...unorthodox. And wet.

“You never smile anymore, Baby Bat.”

Raix scoffed, as Raigengrau’s muzzle nudged against his own. “I do. Plenty.”

“Yeah, but you don’t really mean it.” The doppelganger raised an eyebrow. “It’s either one of those ‘oh, look at me, I’m so cool and sardonic’ kinda-smirks that never seem to reach your eyes or-” Raigengrau paused. He knew the answer just as well as Raix did. He saw it through Ketzgryf’s eyes when he was trapped inside of the ancient vampire lord.

“-When I was nothing more than an empty shell who accepted his fate.” The vampire dragon muttered. “The same look I had for all of the portraits Ketzgryf had commissioned of us together.”

A memory. Navy-blue painted walls. Moonlight streaming in through arched windows framed by violet curtains. Ketzgryf’s private chambers. A gold-framed portrait of two figures hung from the wall, next to the double-doors that lead out to a balcony.

The painting was immaculate. No detail went unnoticed, each and every brushstroke made with a purpose. One of the figures in the portrait, an alabaster-scaled anthro dragon with violet and crimson eyes, wore a white jacket with a violet trim, the outfit quite befitting of a regal aristocrat. His elongated muzzle wore a smug smile, his clawed hand resting possessively on the shoulder of the other figure he loomed over.

Black and red scales, with a mane of white hair. Blue and crimson mismatched eyes, void of purpose or life. Wearing a violet-and-gold trimmed frock coat, the colors of Ketzgryf’s vampire clan, House Durantallyn. His hair, usually free in a tousled mane around his head, was neatly tied back in a tight ponytail in the painting. A pendant hung around his neck in the shape of a crystalline rose.

A smile was on his face. Empty. Void of thought or emotion. Broken.

When Raix had finally returned to kill Ketzgryf, he froze in front of the portrait. Haunted by those dead eyes, the same expression he wore a lifetime ago. An expression he would never wear again.

No matter how many times he clawed at the face of his younger self in the portrait, those haunting, dead eyes continued to fixate on his own.

He burnt the grotesque painting later that night, watching his broken smile turn to ash in the silvery flames of his Wildfire.

“Hey.”

Raix blinked as he was snapped out of his memory, now looking up into Raigengrau’s black and blue eyes. His eyes of worry.

Stop it. ” His voice was firm. “You’re here with me now, Baby Bat. Not him. Never again. You’re here with your other half.”

Raix laid there in silence, unsure of what to say.

Everything ached for the vampiric dragon tonight. The roller coaster of emotions between his restlessness, his fear, being violated by his living shadow, and coming to understand what Raigengrau really was after this whole time made his heart feel...hollow.

I…” Raix started. “I can’t” Raix swallowed the lump forming in his throat, his voice cracking. “I can’t let go.” The vampire sobbed, rasping a shuddering gasp as his previously carefully guarded emotions flooded out. “Fucking Ketzgryf won in the end. He passed his own emptiness to me.”

Tears began to pour from Raix’s eyes, streaming down his cheeks, glistening in the soft moonlight.

Raigengrau stared at Raix for a few moments, his blue and black eyes gazing into Raix’s. Concerned.

Then, a smirk formed on his lips.

“Guess I gotta bring out the big guns then.” The doppelganger chuckled as he brought his clawed hand down to squeeze Raix’s still half-hard erection. “Gonna make you forget all about that old fuck.”

Raigengrau’s sudden grope made Raix whimper, his body tensing up. Lust, fear and his deep-seated despair warred within his heart. “Nnngh…” Raix groaned, his eyes stinging with his tears. He was unable to see Raigengrau’s approach, the doppelganger’s snout almost touching Raix’s forehead.

Warm breath washed over Raix’s face, the scent of vanilla and cloying rot filled his senses. The smell made the vampire squirm. “R-Raigen...Raigengrau…” His nostrils stung, his sobs wracking his body.

And then, something warm. Slick with saliva. The mottled tongue of the doppelganger pressed against Raix’s cheek.

A low growl escaped Raigengrau’s throat, the forked tip of his tongue dragging along Raix’s face, catching his tears. “Mmmm...fuck yeah.” The doppelganger purred, a bead of precum leaking from his cock. “Salty _ AND _ sweet, hehe…”

Raix choked out another sob as Raigengrau’s tongue assaulted his facial features. The wet slurps echoed lewdly in the foyer, as the mottled tongue licked eagerly underneath Raix’s eyes, lapping up the tears.

Yeahh...that’s right, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau smacked his lips, pausing to swallow down the delicious taste that danced across his tastebuds. “You wanna keep on cryin’? That’s fine. I’ll take care of your delicious self.” He leaned in again to resume his work.

“Gods, you sick bastard…” Raix felt his cock throb with each and every lick. “H-haven’t you taken advantage of me enough tonight?”

“Mmmm…” -Slrp-Nah..._I’ll keep fuckin’ you up like this until you stop living in the past. Until you finally get it through your head.” _-Glrk- Raigengrau smirked, before his lips pursed to give Raix’s cheek a gentle kiss. “Two steps forward, ten steps back with you all night, Baby Bat. You’re comin’ far, but I bet I’ll make you _ cum _ further for me tonight.”

“That’s...that’s a stupid pun even for you, mon ombre-” Raix gasped, cutting himself off as Raigengrau’s tongue slipped underneath the vampire’s muzzle, dragging the muscle up in a prolonged lick, the forked tips teasing the sensitive red scales of Raix’s throat.

“’Stupid’, yeah…” Raigengrau dove in for another slurp, his deep-throated groan being felt through his tongue. “...But you’re tasty, so I don’t care.”

With the doppelganger’s hand still on Raix’s shaft, he started to pump the vampire’s dick. “Ya’ know the best part of all this, Baby Bat?” Raigengrau noisily licked his lips, the velvety purr escaping his depths as his tongue played against his own chops. “There are so many different versions of you in so many different reflections. You all taste so good…”

“...but you always tasted the _ best _ to me. My favorite little _ treat. _

Raigengrau dove in again, frantically licking against Raix’s face. The vampiric dragon’s features were drenched in saliva, as Raix’s tears were lost within the fluids that coated his features. Each time Raix blinked, his eyelids would become webbed with the stuff...and Raigengrau just would not stop licking.

Raix let out a soft growl as his counterpart tasted him, as the vampire clung to Raigengrau’s body as tightly as he could. His shaft throbbed with each and every lick, the doppelganger’s clawed hand pumping his shaft relentlessly. He already could feel like he was getting closer.

Raix realized he loved being treated this way. Being savored. Tasted. Wanted. _ Needed _.

“Every little piece of you, Baby Bat, in every different reflection and timeline...” Raigengrau pressed his lips against Raix’s throat. “...You all wanted this. Wanted me to break you.” He paused, kissing Raix’s neck, sucking deeply.

Ahh, _ putain! _” Raix swore, his back arching, cock pressing against the scarred scales of Raigengrau’s body. The flesh underneath the sensitive red scales at his throat began to bruise as Raigengrau sucked.

Finally, the doppelganger pulled back, smacking his lips once again.

“Hehe...sensitive. Both in body and in heart, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau pressed himself against Raix, pre smearing against his gurgling belly that was still digesting the panicking micro version of Raix from earlier. “Desperate to blow your load for dear ol’ Raiggy, huh?”

Raigengrau leaned in, his lips parting again, tongue snaking out. Only for Raix to meet him halfway.

The vampiric dragon pressed his muzzle right up against the broad tongue, nuzzling his snout into the spongy flesh.

“Mmmm, that’s it.” Raigengrau growled. “Good little treat. My favorite Baby Bat...gettin’ himself all worked up because I think he’s delicious…”

Hnnngh…” Raix whined, the pathetic sound making Raigengrau’s pointed ears perk with joy. The vampire purred, rubbing his face against the papillae on the mottled tongue. Lips pressed against the doppelganger’s tongue, feeling the flesh give against his touch, as Raix kissed the broad muscle in a worshipful and subservient gesture. He could barely even smell the rot of Raigengrau’s breath anymore, he was just so utterly and completely focused on the sensation of being enjoyed like this.

Gods, don’t stop. Please keep wanting me. I don’t want to go back to a life without you.” The frantic thoughts in Raix’s head flew through his mind. With each and every lick, Raix whimpered, his clawed toes curling. “R-raagh...rawr...mraghh…

Raigengrau chuckled at the sound, his throat expanding and collapsing rapidly with his laughter, the uvula jiggling at the back of his maw. “’Rawr’, Baby Bat? Oh, please. You’re not a dragon. You’re a snack. _ MY _ snack, hehehe…” With a prolonged growl, the doppelganger dragged his tongue against Raix’s snout, painting the vampire’s face with saliva. “Keep goin’, Baby Bat. Those pathetic noises of yours...mmm, good shit.”

Raix was losing himself, his fractured mind desperate for his own consumption, desperate to be one with his counterpart. He kept thinking of how the micro version of himself squirmed down Raigengrau’s throat. How he screamed, cried and squirmed with fear. How Raix would rather just give in entirely and let his doppelganger take him fully into himself. “R-raiggy...please…

“Fuckin’ adorable.” Raigengrau purred. “You’re so cute. Real fuckin’ cute.”

Raix’s own tongue pressed against Raigengrau’s, the forked tip teasing the center trough of the tongue. He lapped up the saliva and thick ichor, taking it into his own body with each swallow, feeling the dark, oily-like substance drip down his throat like molasses. The sticky saliva stuck to his scales, matting down his hair.

The vampire bucked his hips, the rock-hard shaft throbbing painfully. Ready to blow any second now. And then, his eyes caught hold of the sight.

With each slurp and every breath, the soft flesh around Raigengrau’s throat shuddered, as saliva dripped from the mottled uvula. Fluids trickled down the soft flesh of the gullet, the light being swallowed just past the back of the tongue. Even as his face was being licked, Raix just couldn’t take his eyes off the sight, watching each and every movement of the throat, tongue and uvula, his ears perking with every little swallow and groan of lust. Frozen, yet utterly fascinated.

Was this...the last thing he saw?” Raix thought about the uvula pressing against the micro’s face, how the pathetic and tiny version of himself cried out in utter terror, before disappearing down Raigengrau’s gullet. He started to pant, his whole body tingling with perverse pleasure.

“Ohhhrr?” Raigengrau felt the sharp breaths from Raix against his mouth, pulling back some to see Raix’s eyes wide. The mismatched orbs fixated on the back of his maw. “Ya’ like what ya’ see, huh? Are you wishing it was you that got ate earlier?” He grinned, licking his lips nosily again.

“I…” Raix tried to speak, but as soon as Raigengrau slowly opened his mouth again, he found himself entranced.

Jaws parted as saliva and black ichor webbed between Raigengrau’s lips, dripping down onto Raix’s face from the doppelganger’s fangs. The tongue extended just enough for the forked tip to hang over his lower jaw, the muscle rising and falling with each breath. Mottled blue and black flesh glistened with fluids, the ridged roof of the hard palate giving way to soft flesh towards the back of the maw.

Aaaaaahhhh…” Raigengrau moaned, the sound making his uvula vibrate, the flesh in the back of the mouth shuddering from the sheer force of the vocalization. Tonsils visible, as Raigengrau held his maw open in front of Raix’s face, the flap that was the epiglottis just barely visible in the dark, living cavern that was the doppelganger’s mouth.

Raix held his breath, his eyes lidding with pleasure. He barely even registered the clawed hand that was furiously jerking him off. How his legs would kick and squirm with delight. All that mattered to him right now was the sight of his counterpart’s maw. How desperate he was to become one with the monster.

The tongue arched, uvula spilling over the back of the muscle. Raix never missed a moment.

Yes...PLEASE!” Raix gazed unblinkingly, thoughts racing, heart pounding furiously.

Raigengrau swallowed. Hard. The wet gulp making the muscles ripple and clench.

Raix didn’t even realize he was screaming, as he came a second time that night.

KYAAAAAHH __GHGHHH!!!!” Thick ropes of semen drenched Raigengrau’s hand, as Raix’s fluids splattered against the red scaled and scarred belly of the doppelganger.

Raigengrau growled with lust, feeling Raix’s cock throb with each release. His throat dilated widely, still holding his maw open for the vampire.

He belched.

The eye-watering scent hit Raix full-force as he was met with a scent of something akin to his own. Much like the micro version of himself that had become a meal for Raigengrau.

“Ohh, gosh...fuck.” Raix whimpered, his orgasm fading. Images flashed in his head, as he thought about the micro digesting inside, both the one in his own and the micro in Raigengrau’s guts.

Disgusting...but…” His eyes closed, thinking of the ever-present heartbeat. His heartbeat. Raigengrau’s… “I’d be close to him.

-Sc __h_ looorp-_

Raix’s eyes shot open again.

_ Oh. _

Raigengrau held his hand paw up to his muzzle, the claws dripping with Raix’s semen. His tongue snaked out from between his lips, lapping up the pearlescent fluid.

Heh…” He swallowed, before he went back to cleaning his hand. “Even your fuckin’ cum is delicious. Every part of you… His eyes locked onto Raix’s as he sucked at his own clawtips. “...like candy.”

With a lunge, Raigengrau pressed his lips against Raix’s in a kiss, the tongue forcing its way into the vampire’s maw. Raix wouldn’t have resisted in the first place.

The two kissed, as Raigengrau’s claws brushed through Raix’s hair. Raix eagerly suckled the doppelganger’s tongue. He could feel Raigengrau grinding his dick against his belly, leaving streaks of black precum and ichor, the vampire losing himself in the sensation.

Losing himself in his thoughts. Again.

Not the traumatic thoughts of Ketzgryf. Nor the sorrowful wish that he could do more for Marius.

Longing.

Hoping to be one with the doppelganger.

He’s right.” Raix thought, his tongue brushing against Raigengrau’s. “At the end of the day, we are both truly one. Yet, the chasm remains. The chasm that we both left in each other. The one that only grew infinitely wider when I ran that night.

When I abandoned him

Raigengrau growled with lust, his claws piercing Raix’s scales, drawing pinpricks of blood. He was getting close.

He never abandoned me. He chased me down for gods knows how long. Always willing to do whatever it took to fill the holes.”

“Baby Bat…” Raigengrau broke the kiss, clenching his eyes.

“Raiggy…” Raix whimpered, the doppelganger letting out a sharp laugh at the nickname again. “Raigengrau...please.

GRRRGHCK!” The multilayered voice snarled between gritted teeth, as Raigengrau’s claws gripped Raix’s body as he reached his climax, painting the vampire dragon’s belly and chest with his own cum. “Godsdammit, FUCK!”

Raix’s eyes gazed upward, almost rolling back into his head. The sensations of tonight…

...His fear. His pain. His dignity and pride.

His love.

He was always terrified of love. Ever since what happened with Ketzgryf. Even Marius set him on edge, Raix feeling like he could never live up to the legend that the poet dragon saw him as.

But this monster, born from his own soul. Raigengrau…

Never again. I won’t ever abandon him again. I need to…” Raix’s mind echoed.

“Raigengrau…” The vampire’s hands reached up, pressing his clawed digits against the doppelganger’s cheeks.

His counterpart finished panting, the two bodies covered in each other’s semen. “Baby Bat…” Raigengrau purred.

Raix just stared for a few moments in silence. Unsure how to say the words. Unable to speak. But he had to say what was on his mind.

He had to fill the hole.

_ For both of them. _

“Take it. Please.” Raix’s voice dropped to a whisper.

Raigengrau blinked as he gazed into the vampire’s eyes. “...What?”

Raix took a shuddering breath.

“My soul. _ Take it. _”

A surprising plea makes Raigengrau speechless. Is it out of despair? Or out of love, as Raix hopes to be closer than ever with his other half.

Raigengrau froze.

“...What?”

“I…” Raix swallowed hard. “...I want you to have my soul. So, we can...fix each other.”

The doppelganger suddenly sat up on his knees, looking down at his counterpart. Raix’s snow-white hair, completely matted down with saliva, seemed to shine in the soft light of the moon. The only article of clothing that had survived the night was the black and gold longcoat that hung from Raix’s shoulders, now tattered, torn and stained. The vampiric dragon’s rapier lay discarded somewhere in the foyer, long having been lost and forgotten after Raix’s last attempt to retrieve it.

His face…” Raigengrau thought as he looked at Raix. “He’s...tired. Exhausted. Just outright ‘_ done’ _”

“H-hang on, Baby Bat.” Raigengrau chuckled nervously, his multilayered voice creating a discordant chorus with his laughter. “Ya’ don’t feel like we’re fixing ourselves by just being together like this? ‘Cuz, I did say that was another option. Might be a bit slower, but...you could keep being you, long as you just accept me as ‘you’ too.”

Raix stayed silent for a moment, looking up into the black and blue eyes of his living shadow. “Why are you hesitating?” Raix sighed. “Isn’t this what you wanted the moment you were finally freed from Ketzgryf? After I abandoned you?”

Don’t. ” Raigengrau’s voice was sharp. “Don’t you dare bring that shit up.” A shuddering rasping breath. “I...I did want it. I still do want it, Raix.” He narrowed his eyes, glaring into Raix’s own. “I could take it and call it a day. That way, I know we’d both be good and fixed. Together. Whole.”

“But I know you’re a stupid, fuckin’ stubborn-ass brat.” The doppelganger continued, leaning forward. “I know that you’d rather die than throw away your freedom. That you’d tear down the world before you’d sacrifice anything precious to you. So, don’t fuckin’ come up here and give me this high-and-mighty heroic sacrifice bullshit.” Raigengrau’s voice suddenly snarled. “Don’t you just fuckin’ quit on me now, after all of the shit you put me through!”

Raix laid there underneath Raigengrau, black saliva and ichor splattering onto his indifferent face as the doppelganger laid into him.

The monster, born from the darkest reaches of his own heart and soul, breathed heavily, his teeth bared. “You crawled out of your own godsdamned grave multiple times. We survived Strasbourg together! We watched as father died by his own hand and as mother beat the ever living hells out of us! We ended up here, hoping to find some form of salvation, only to be seduced by some ancient vampire fuck! And even when he devoured our soul...when he ate _ ME… _” Raigengrau shook his head, blinking away the dark tears from his eyes. “...You kept going. You always did.”

“So what if that asshole let you put an end to his reign? Fuck Ketz.” The doppelganger spat. “Shit’s over and done. And you know what, Baby Bat? You even handled me as best as you could.” Raigengrau now grinned widely for a moment. “Gotta count for somethin’, right?”

He frowned, Raigengrau letting the previous words hang in the air before he started again. “...Don’t throw it all away on my account. I’d love your soul. I’d love for us to finally, truly, fully be one again, instead of two. It would fix...it would fix _ everything. _” A choked sound escaped from his throat. But I’ll take the consolation prize of just being with you.”

Raigengrau shuddered, his eyes looking down and away from Raix’s own unblinking, listless gaze. “...Don’t abandon me again, Baby Bat. Don’t forget me. Please.”

“...Raigengrau.” Raix’s voice was almost a whisper.

“...Raix.” The doppelganger sobbed. “Baby Bat...don’t die in despair, please.”

“I’m not.”

Raigengrau snapped his gaze up to meet Raix’s, about to launch into another tirade. Only to stop when he saw Raix’s face.

At the corner of his lips, on his muzzle, Raix wore the faintest hint of a smile. Not the usual mocking smile or the fake smirk of a bard putting on a show. It was a genuine smile that reflected in the vampire’s tired eyes.

“You think I’m doing this because I want to die. Because my despair finally was bared to the world tonight, after spending so long trying to fight it. To hide it, by burying it under layer after layer of mockery and anger.” Raix groaned as he pushed himself up to meet Raigengrau, their snouts almost touching.

“I’m telling you that you’re right.” Raix murmured. “And that I was wrong. I wholly...one-hundred percent believe I was wrong. And that we are deeply and intrinsically linked. Not because we’re two different halves, warped beyond belief. But because we’re the same.”

“And yes...we could just exist together.” Raix let out a soft chuckle, layered with palpable irony. “The moment I let my guard down tonight and understood you, I could already feel the gap closing. It was the slightest shift, but I felt it.” Raix’s voice trembled, as he struggled to not fall into tears again. “...But I am you. I can...feel it now. More than ever. And knowing that I have taken so much from you...it’s hellish, Raigengrau. I can’t...I can’t fucking be apart now. I can’t just have you continue to live your lie anymore. You have to become me. And I...I need to return to you.”

Raigengrau was silent. For the first time ever, he truly wasn’t sure what to say.

“Please…” Raix clung to Raigengrau. “...don’t keep us apart anymore.”

The two lay together in the foyer for some time, not speaking a word to each other. The chirping of birds could be heard from outside, signifying the imminent arrival of daybreak. The wards that had covered the academy’s windows had long since faded after Ketzgryf’s death, turning what was once a haven against daylight into a deathtrap for the vampires of the school.

“...Heh.” Raigengrau laughed softly. “...It’s funny. Even I didn’t expect this tonight. I don’t think I...ever expected you to finally just give in.”

“I know.” Raix buried his snout against Raigengrau’s scarred chest. “...I never expected to have feelings for you.”

Oh, Baby Bat.” The doppelganger’s arms caressed Raix’s back. “...From the start, I was going to make your life miserable. Tear every bit of your heart away and make you just fall to your knees and give me your soul. But…” Raigengrau gently squeezed Raix’s body. “...I didn’t know the world had broken you already. That my anger over being abandoned wasn’t gonna work anymore. That the only thing that could save us from the world, from each other…” He trailed off.

“...was love.” Raix finished. “Love, for us. For ourselves.”

“Ugh…” Raigengrau rolled his eyes. “Don’t say it like that, Baby Bat. It sounds like the plot summary of some cringey-ass romance novel when you do that.” He took a breath to laugh, but stopped himself when he heard Raix’s laughter.

Raix’s voice was hoarse from screaming, from being battered so hard this night. Yet, his laughter was mirthful, full of a life that neither Raix himself or Raigengrau had heard from the vampire in a long time.

“Yeah, you’re right.” Raix didn’t let go of Raigengrau. And the doppelganger didn’t let go of his other half.

“...I’ll be gone after this, won’t I?” Raix asked. It was a question he knew the answer to. “It’s...why I ran in the first place. No longer a vampire. The burning Wildfire in my soul snuffed out. Memories and dreams; gone. And you…”

“...the emptiness will be filled. For both of us.” Raigengrau nodded. “What use would we need to burn down the world? To consume it in shadow, when we can just be one and create a sanctuary elsewhere. Our own private heaven. For you. Me. All the other reflections. Finally free from fate’s bullshit.”

“...Sounds boring.” Raix’s voice was layered with sarcasm.

“Maybe. But I bet you’d love a break, huh?” Raigengrau’s hands stroked along Raix’s back.

“Yeah…”

Raix thought for some time. He had been fighting the moment he was born, even as a mortal. His poor, broken home in Strasbourg, his life on the run from Ketzgryf and the clan. The crushing emptiness he suffered from.

He had wanted, more than anything, for his pain to mean something. He had wanted to turn the tragedy of Raix “Wildfire” SolHart, into a triumph. His story, of overcoming the endless pain would be his magnum opus.

“...Maybe this is what it was all for.” Raix thought.

“Just one thing.” The vampire looked up into the doppelganger’s eyes. “Marius…”

“Heh, you still feel for that crybaby, huh?” Raigengrau grinned, thinking of the one time he surprised the blue-scaled dragon poet at night within the academy’s library. Watching him from the shadows, as he feverishly wrote something in his well-worn journal, the candlelight reflecting off the glasses perched atop his snout. Occasionally, Raigengrau would reveal himself from the darkness in an attempt to scare Marius, only to disappear after. He especially loved that one time when Marius screamed in terror at Raigengrau, only to fall out of his chair onto the hardwood floor.

“Of course.” Raix’s voice grew firm with conviction. “He doesn’t deserve what happened to us. His life’s been hard enough, having to flee from home. Hunted down by the Cult of the Supreme Being.”

“Just...promise me. Promise me that you’ll look after him.” Raix was practically begging his doppelganger.

“No.”

Raix blinked.

We will look after him.” Raigengrau finished.

The vampire sighed. He didn’t understand...and yet, relief flooded through his veins. “...Okay.”

For what felt like an eternity, the two clung to each other. Thoughts raced through Raix’s head.

I already know the terror of my soul being devoured. It already happened with Ketzgryf. What will it be like this time? To return _ home? _ To fill the gaps in Raigengrau’s heart? Will I even feel anything? Will I truly...be gone?”

“Baby Bat…” Raigengrau’s voice pulled Raix out of his trance. “Are you sure you want to-”

“-Kiss me, dammit.” Raix suddenly snapped.

With no hesitation, the doppelganger lunged, his lips crashing against the vampire’s once again, pinning Raix to the floor.

Raix moaned, his tongue invading Raigengrau’s maw. His eyes began to close. He held onto his counterpart for dear life, even if he was giving up his very soul. Not in despair. Not to die. But to rejoin.

Please, don’t make me regret anything. I’m begging you.” The thoughts in Raix’s head eclipsed the din of the wet, lewd sounds of the two kissing each other. “If this is my final chapter to my tale, then let it truly mean something.

He was ripped out of his thoughts, as Raigengrau sharply inhaled.

Raix’s eyes shot wide open. The sudden, cold intake of air was not merely a gasp. He could feel something being disturbed deep within his bosom. A sensation he hadn’t felt in centuries, not since…

Oh gods.” A wave of primal terror ripped through Raix’s body. “It’s like that night. All over again.

A memory. A nightmare. Raix on the floor of Ketzgryf’s chambers. Bleeding out. His neck having been torn out by the vampire lord.

Raix was dying. He was trying to take his final, shuddering gasps as a mortal. Both of his eyes were blue, yet the light inside was fading fast.

The nightmare flashed by in his head out of sequence. The lips of the alabaster-scaled dragon against his own. Being forced to bite into his wrist and drink his ancient and powerful blood. The stinging sensation in his left eye, as a crimson pigmentation devoured the blue-colored iris and sclera...the mark of a vampire. Ketzgryf’s lips against his own, inhaling deeply, the sensation of his soul being uprooted and-

Raix found himself shaking uncontrollably. The so-called “Wildfire of Strasbourg”, “The Bard of Spite”, “The Rose in Wildfire”, all titles that were built up on a throne of lies and pillars of salt. He never was the terrifying duelist that single-handedly destroyed Ketzgryf’s accursed kingdom; he was still just a scared little boy that was running from his destiny. Always running.

Raigengrau held Raix tighter. Close to his chest. Close to him.

He could almost hear what he was thinking. “I got you, Baby Bat. It’s okay.

Another inhale. He could feel a sense of warmth beginning to rise up his throat. Raix’s shaking eased, still trembling, but he felt…

_... safe. _

With another gasp from Raigengrau, Raix felt the warmth reach his maw. Something that just felt like himself, on the verge of escaping his body again. Something precious.

Raigengrau stopped inhaling. He waited. A final question. Confirmation.

Raix held. Time stopped. He looked past Raigengrau, up towards the stained glass windows of the foyer at the artistic depictions. His mismatched eyes gazing at the window depicting Ketzgryf embracing Raix.

I was broken.”

Raix closed his eyes.

And now, for the first time in centuries..._ I will be whole _.”

His lips parted. Just enough for Raigengrau.

Let’s close the book on the tragedy of ‘ The Rose in Wildfire ’ and start a new story.”

Raix thought no more on his past. He only looked towards the future, as Raigengrau inhaled once again.

The doppelganger pulled back, looming over Raix. Jaws apart, as he sucked down air, as well as a spiraling column of silvery-white light that poured from Raix’s jaws. Raix’s soul.

It was a hauntingly beautiful sight. Most souls appear as thin, gossamer strands of light when sucked out by soul-eaters. Yet, Raix’s own spirit was forged within the flames of Wildfire, enduring centuries of pain and suffering. The light illuminated not only the doppelganger’s mottled maw, but lit up the dark foyer of the academy; now Raix SolHart’s final resting place.

Raigengrau’s black-and-blue tongue slipped underneath the spirit, a low groan of lust escaping his throat, as he guided the light towards his throat.

-Glrp-

The doppelganger swallowed, the column of light being pushed down into his gullet and into his body. Back where it originally belonged all those years ago.

Raix’s jaws were open in what appeared to be a silent, blissful scream. His eyes remained closed. He kept his mind blank. No matter how hard Raigengrau held him, the feeling of your memories, your hopes and dreams, losing everything that made up one’s self was a deep terror that lived within Raix’s heart. The prior scars of when Ketzgryf devoured his soul never having quite healed.

Tears streamed from Raix’s eyes. He wasn’t sure why. He wasn’t crying out of sorrow or fear.

...Relief?

Another swallow. Raigengrau’s growls of delight vibrating in Raix’s bones. The vampire hearing a voice in his head as the doppelganger drank in his soul.

Baby Bat... _fuck_.

Raigengrau’s voice. He could hear him.

I always said you were delicious, but...your spark is somethin’ else.

Raix would laugh if he could. Raigengrau was always going on about his taste.

The doppelganger’s tongue pressed against the soul that was being pulled into his maw. “You burn, Baby Bat. Your Wildfire has always burned. An inferno for the world. Melting your foes down to ash…”

...Now you can burn for me.” Raigengrau swallowed again, the doppelganger’s voice in his head growing louder, more resonant.

Raix let out a pathetic whine. The sensation was equal parts terror and something entirely different. Almost like a sense of wistful nostalgia. The same feeling one would experience when arriving home after a long night out.

He didn’t want to stop. He refused to stop. His claws dug into Raigengrau’s scales, desperate to never let go, not until the end.

Marius…” Raix didn’t know what would happen to the poet after all was said and done, but...he had faith in Raigengrau. He had faith in both himself and the vessel he was making whole again.

What...what did Marius...what did he look like? _...Blue scales? Green? What color...__ non _.”

The sharp knife of fear pierced Raix’s heart. He could feel the dreams and thoughts slip away, one-by-one. With each thick swallow, each little bit of his soul escaping his body and falling into Raigengrau’s-

-Schlurrrrrp-

Raigengrau took a deep draw of Raix’s soul. The thick strand of light that was shimmering like the silvery-flames of Raix’s Wildfire pyrokinesis, now disappeared down Raigengrau’s hungry throat.

Baby Bat...Raix.”

-Glrk-

-Gulp-

-Schllrrrrrk-

You really are...you’re filling the holes within me. I can feel-” Raigengrau shuddered in bliss, moaning after each and every swallow. “-feels like I’m coming together again.”

Even with his eyes closed, Raix could see shadows dancing in his peripherals. Figures of those he had known in his life. Dissipating into mist. Falling into darkness. All gone.

The thrill of stealing a loaf of bread back in Strasbourg. The joy of writing the perfect line for his story. The scratch of a quill against parchment…

Mon ange, your writing is beautiful.” Marius’ smile in the candlelit library melted like wax. His voice was fading away.

No. Non...no, no, no.” The tears freely streamed. “Not him. Not-”

His name...what was his name?!”

Baby Bat...there’s so much fear in you.” Raigengrau’s head tilted back, losing himself to the sensation. The feeling of his other half finally learning his true place. Finally coming home. But I see you. I _ feel _ you. You..._ really _ want this.”

You’re desperate to feel whole again. You want this more than I even do, Baby Bat.”

Raix could barely even perceive the sound of Raigengrau gulping down his soul. Sensations, feelings, all were becoming muted. Dust. Ashes. Then, nothingness.

“_ Rosenthorne... _my rapier. Where is it?! What does it look like? Did it have thorns on the hilt?”

The many nights spent writing, surrounded by discarded and wine-stained pages of a manuscript that would never see the light of day. The words seemed to melt off the pages, black ink slithering off parchment.

What was I writing? Why did I spend so much time on it? Who will read it? Why did I bother?”

The terror in his heart. The deep-seated despair of his existence. The thrill of the chase. The sardonic smirk on his lips when he was about to verbally eviscerate his foe before the final blow. The flames that danced across his claws.

They called me ‘Wildfire’. Why? Freedom? From what? Loneliness? Isolation? Was I ever lonely? Did I have anyone that ever mattered?

-Hrrrrk...GLP-

Raigengrau gagged, his throat clenching around the soul. He could taste it. He felt it. Every single feeling. Every dream. Every nightmare. All were his now. And it wasn’t like most souls he ate. Those just added to the void, but never truly fit.

The Serpens shaped scar on Raigengrau's body briefly illuminated with the light of Raix’s soul.

The worst thought slipped through Raix’s mind, only to vanish as soon as he asked himself the question.

Did I matter?

Shhhh, Baby Bat. It’s okay. We’re gonna be fixed. I’m fixing Ketzgryf’s mess. We’re gonna be whole. Together.” Raigengrau’s eyes fluttered.

Ketzgryf.

No matter what, the name rang out in Raix’s mind. A venomous curse.

That smug smirk on his effeminate, elongated muzzle. White scales painted with his own blood, his long blonde-and-lavender hair a complete mess. Ketzgryf looking up with his mismatched eyes, his hair gripped in Raix’s hand, as he brought the ancient vampire lord to his knees.

“You’ll never forget me, draga mea.” Ketzgryf’s deep voice still oh-so-clear to Raix’s dissolving mind. “I made you. How could you ever let me go?”

His features began to melt and fade away, disappearing into a blank canvas. The fistful of hair slipped from Raix’s grasp, the memory of Ketzgryf’s final words ringing in his mind.

“You’ll never be whole without me, Raix. We need each other.”

Raix stood alone in the memory, out on the balcony of Ketzgryf’s private chambers. The deep blue of the night sky overhead dissolving into a colorless, featureless void.

I never needed you, Ketzgryf.

Raix could feel it. There wasn’t much left inside. The memory of the vampire lord that had a hand in every single moment of his life was finally being excised from his shell.

Ohhh, Baby Bat...Raix..._ RAIX!” _ Raigengrau leaned closer. The fractured pieces coming together. His heart. His soul. He was beginning to truly feel whole.

It’s okay, Baby Bat...all your anger. Your despair. Your sarcastic smiles and laughter. All of it is fixing me.” Raigengrau’s lips pressed against Raix’s again as he sucked.

...Why did I cry so much when I was alone?” Raix could feel the iciness of a hollowed out creature in his veins. The fear, fury and desperate demands to understand why his life was filled with such agony was being snuffed out. “Why am I crying now? For who?

“...Rai” His name. His name remained. “Raix…

Almost there, Baby Bat. Almost have you back where you belong.” Raigengrau’s clawed hands stroked through Raix’s hair, his throat massaging down the thinning column of light that was Raix’s soul.

And then, buried further than Raix’s fury for Ketzgryf, beneath the layers of despair and self-loathing…

..._ A memory flashed. _

A door opened, the light flooding the small space that made up the shed.

A figure walked through the doorway, the silhouette moving in the bright light of the sun outside. They reached to grab a glass lantern hanging from a hook, ignoring the rotting, termite-ridden wood.

The figure closed the door, plunging the room into darkness. A match was lit and then, the lantern came to life.

The black-scaled anthro dragon holding the lantern wore a tired expression. His weary blue eyes laid behind a pair of golden glasses that sat atop his snout. His white hair was tousled and messy, the bangs partially framing his face. A dark-grey threadbare jacket hung around his shoulders, as brown slacks clung to his waist, held up by a knotted rope.

He looked around the room, searching...

I’m sorry…

His pointed ears perked at the words, the dragon stepping further into the shed, carefully climbing over the crates that littered the small room. As he made his way towards the back of the shed, he could hear the sound. Sobbing. Someone crying.

The dragon rounded a corner, past a tattered cloth that hung between two crates.

Dad…

When he heard the voice, the dragon blinked, turning towards the opening that was hidden by the hanging piece of cloth. He reached out and pushed the cloth aside, peering into the opening with his lantern.

Curled up, a young black-scaled anthro dragon sobbed, his snout tucked against his knees. He looked similar to the older, bespectacled dragon. The whelp’s white hair was cut close to his skull, the occasional strand poking out here and there. His black and red scales were caked in mud, his body visible through the cuts and tears in the thin sack-like shirt he wore, one pant leg completely torn off at the knee.

The older dragon stared for a few moments, as the whelp cried on and on, tears streaming down his dirty cheeks.

“Raix...my son, mon étoile.” The older dragon finally spoke up. “What happened?”

The younger dragon, Raix, peeked out at his father, Gruhaem, through teary eyes. Mortal. Six years after his birth. 1578. Strasbourg.

“Father...I-” Raix sniffled. “I...I was called so many names by the others today. I…”

The younger drake broke down in a fit of sobs again. “I’m so lonely, dad…no one wants to be with me, unless it's to hurt me...”

Gruhaem smiled softly. A kind look on his face. Too kind for a world that had beaten him down since birth. He was well aware of the fall of the SolHart family name. Their ancestor, Thulbain SolHart, was excommunicated from the church, despite serving Henry II himself of the Holy Roman Empire. All because the church discovered that Thulbain’s marriage was a sham and that he preferred the company of men, stripping him of all titles and sending their ancestor to die at the gallows.

Ever since, the SolHart name had been tainted in the free city of Strasbourg, the family forever struggling to rise again, forever trapped in the tenements of the slums.

Gruhaem hated that he couldn’t help his family. He was the target of his spouse’s cold insults, Elysette, who frequently would also take her anger out on their only son.

Their son, Raix SolHart. Often bullied by the other younglings of Strasbourg, something Gruhaem experienced himself growing up. He was an easy mark for the others, as the young Raix grew attached to books and literature at a young age, often stealing pages and excerpts from the schoolhouse, stuffing them inside his shirt to read later. Often acting out scenes in the stories he read. He wanted to grow to be an actor in the theatre, or a writer.

Raix often felt out of place when learning other subjects with the others. He oft felt left out and lonesome.

“Oh, Raix.” Gruhaem ducked under the cloth overhang, taking a knee and setting the lantern on the wooden floor. “They’re only names. Words. Words that you and I both know have no meaning. The words you read and write, even at such a young age, those are the words you should be focused on.”

“E-even so…” Raix slowly pulled himself upwards, wiping the tears away from his eyes. “I have no one, father. No friends, no one to talk to. Mother hits me and locks me away in here if I ask for anything. And you’re...” The young dragon took a shuddering breath. “You're never here. All the children have someone, dad.”

A sharp pain was felt in Gruhaem’s heart. Raix wasn’t wrong. He often had to work a variety of odd jobs throughout the day and night. Sometimes being forced to provide unsavory services at the city’s local brothel, in order to put bread on the table.

“I…” Gruhaem sighed, frowning. “...I know.” He had no idea how to help his only son. He was sure when he returned home, that he’d have to listen to Elysette’s barbed words again. The older dragon never truly knew a moment’s respite.

The two sat in silence, the flickering flames from the lantern cast their shadows along the walls of the shed.

“...Raix.” His father looked up, the gentle smile returning to his muzzle. “Can I show you something? I think you’ll appreciate it.”

He held out a clawed hand, the scales discolored, his claws chipped. The years and years of hard labor and little rest was all too apparent.

Raix looked away for a moment, his body wracked by a stray sob, before he nodded silently and reached out to take his father’s hand.

Gruhaem led his son out from his hiding place, lantern in his other hand. “Mon étoile. My star...I want you to know something very important. And I hope no matter what, no matter how old you get, that you never forget it.” He led Raix towards an object that leaned against the far wall of the shed, the item covered in a dust-laden cloth.

The older dragon reached out, grasping the cloth, the horde of tiny spiders that made their home on the tarp skittering away in fear. Gruhaem pulled, dust clouding the air, as he casually tossed the cloth aside to reveal the concealed object.

A mirror.

“Look, Raix.” Gruhaem pointed towards the reflective surface. “Tell me what you see when you gaze into the mirror.”

Raix blinked, covering his muzzle as he coughed, the dust thick in the air from its displacement. When he looked into the mirror, he narrowed his eyes, the young dragon looking back up at his father. “...It’s just me, dad. It’s a mirror.”

“Yes.” Gruhaem nodded. “It is you. The single most important person you’ll ever meet.”

Raix tilted his head. “I don’t get it.” Gruhaem placed a hand on his shoulder, glancing towards the mirror, his son following his gaze.

“When you look and see yourself in the mirror, that is someone who will always be there for you. No matter what. They’ll listen to you. They’ll feel joy and sorrow with you. They’ll dance and sing, always with you.” Gruhaem’s smile was constant, yet his voice shuddered. He wished he had more to give to his son. Wished he could do more, than just tell him about some sort of “imaginary friend”.

But he had to try.

“Dad…” Raix couldn’t take his eyes off the reflection. Young as he may be, he wasn’t a fool. He knew, deep-down, that this was just an attempt to try to help. That this wasn’t really going to fix anything. He’d still have to deal with the constant jeers, his mother’s abuse, his father’s despair.

The constant loneliness.

But...he was desperate. Raix was longing for some kind of connection.

Maybe that connection can start from within.

“Okay…” Raix forced a small smile onto his face.“I’ll...try. For you, dad.”

Gruhaem nodded. Internally, he sighed with relief. All he wanted was for his son to have a better life than he did. To finally be free of the dark abyss that had engulfed his family name.

“Just one thing.” Gruhaem started. “He needs a name.”

It’s just my reflection, why would he need a name?” Raix thought to himself.

“I...I’m really bad with names, father.” Raix chuckled nervously. “Even in the parchment I take from school, I always had a hard time coming up with names for those I write about.”

“Well, let’s try something close to your name. That’s an easy start, right?” Gruhaem looked up at the cobweb-infested ceiling, lost in thought. “Hmmm...oh!” His eyes lit up. “Raix, try this; close your eyes for me.”

Raix nodded, closing his blue eyes. “What am I doing, father?”

“Tell me what you see.”

“...Nothing.”

Gruhaem laughed softly, shaking his head. He turned a lever on the lantern, the light now covered by a thin, sliding piece of metal, leaving the two in darkness. “No, no. What color do you see?”

“Um…” His teeth grit together, Raix’s eyes clenched in thought. “...It’s dark. Not entirely black, but...uhm…” He trailed off, unsure of what else to say.

“Right.” Gruhaem nodded, restoring the light of the lantern. “There’s a word for that color, a term from the Germans in the city.”

Raix blushed with embarrassment. Despite Strasbourg being mainly German, he could barely speak the language. He mostly communicated in French, his home language. “W-what is it?”

Eigengrau”

Raix took the words in. “...Eigengrau.” He repeated the term, committing it to memory. “So, every time I close my eyes, I’m seeing eigengrau? That’s what the color is called?”

Gruhaem smiled. “Yes. And now, we just need to figure out something for our friend here. A name to call them by, whenever you feel lonely. Someone you can speak to, when you’re looking in the mirror. Someone to listen to you.”

“Someone who will always be there for you. Whether you see all the colors of the world with your own eyes, or when you only see the darkness of eigengrau.” Gruhaem finished.

Raix furrowed his brow, thinking of the name. The name for his reflection in the mirror that he’d speak to. His reflection, who looked identical to himself.

Raix’s eyes shot wide open. “Father. I think I know what his name is.”

The young dragon looked at himself in the mirror. He saw the dirt-crusted drake that he was. Yet, he also saw someone that, no matter what, would always be there for him, every time he looked into the mirror.

Raix smiled.

“I’m going to call him...”

* * *

Another memory. 1579. A year later. A year after Gruhaem’s death. By his own hand.

Raix spent a lot of time in the shed. To the point where his mother didn’t lock him inside there anymore. He did anything he could to stay away from Elysette, who had only grown more unstable and cruel after Gruhaem’s demise. It had become his sanctuary. His home.

By candlelight, Raix sat in front of the mirror. Writing in stolen books, reading aloud to his own reflection. Conversing for hours. Tear-filled confessions to himself, asking for forgiveness after having stolen fruit from the wagon or for his hatred for his own mother. Describing the lonely isolation of his life, whenever he wasn’t in here, talking to his only friend in the world.

“I miss dad.” Raix muttered to the mirror, sitting on the dusty floor of the shed. “I miss him so much. I wish he stayed. I wish he helped mom get better.” He shook his head. “No one wants to talk to me at school. They think I’m a freak. A sad freak that deserves to rot in a gutter.”

He wiped the tears from his eyes and smiled. “But...that’s okay, I think. I don’t need them. I have my books. I have my words, my plays, my dreams.” He crawled towards the mirror, his eyes filled with desperate hope. Sorrowful, yet never giving up on the dreams of a better day. When he can finally find peace.

He didn't know at the time, yet it would be a hope that Raix would hold onto, for centuries.

He placed his clawed hand against the mirror, his snout almost touching the cold surface. Eye-to-eye with the reflection.

“No matter what though, we’re in this together.” His innocent voice cracked. Tears streamed down his eyes again, but the smile never faded. “I’ll be here for you. And you’ll be here for me.”

You won’t ever abandon me, and I won’t ever abandon you. Because we’ll always be together for each other.”

“_ Right, Raigengrau? _

* * *

The memory stayed within Raix. Despite losing everything else in his mind, heart and soul, the deeply rooted moment formed the core of Raix’s very being. More than his hatred for Ketzgryf or his desire to be noticed. It was the dream of a child with his only “friend” in the world, seeking salvation from his broken, sad life.

His lips were pressed against that friend. Was he always there in the mirror? Was he truly born from Raix’s darkness? Or was it through all those tear-filled moments of sorrow, mixed with laughter as he recited countless theatrical plays through stolen books?

It didn’t matter now. All Raix could think of was the words he said that night. That promise he made, all those centuries ago. The promise he failed to uphold, even when Raigengrau would stop at nothing to fulfill his end of the bargain.

The final wisps of his soul escaped his body, passing into Raigengrau’s maw. The doppelganger holding the kiss with Raix for as long as possible, never wanting to let go of this moment.

Raix’s body felt weightless. His head reeled. He wasn’t sure what direction up or down was. He wasn’t going to last much longer.

He couldn’t let go of this moment. His reason. The promise he made.

It took all of his strength to raise his right arm, the limb trembling violently with effort. His final actions being driven by sheer force of will, the same defiant fire that sparked within him, now not even mere embers within his hollow body.

His vision darkened. Barely even noticing how Raigengrau’s eyes were closed. He could only feel the warm lips against his rapidly cooling body.

But he was determined. Desperate to tell Raigengrau that he never forgot.

The vampire dragon’s clawed hand pressed against his doppelganger’s cheek.

Raigengrau’s black and blue eyes shot wide open in shock, leaning back. The kiss was broken. Still registering the sensations in his body, as the great chasm within was filled with long-forgotten moments.

“I…” Raix rasped. “Y-you won’t ever...abandon me. And I won’t ever abandon you.”

A momentary lapse, sensation and feeling completely lost to the world.

No...no! I have to…”

Raix felt like he was drifting away, dissolving into mist.

“_ I. HAVE. TO. TELL. HIM!” _

His eyes refocused on Raigengrau’s. The sensation of his hand against those scales.

“Because...we’ll always be together for...each other.”

Raix drifted off again. He felt his hand slipping.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry I was wrong for so long about you. About _ us. _”

The final ember within his heart lit for one, last time. It took every fiber of his very being to speak.

“R...right, Raigen-”

He couldn’t even finish his name. The name he gave him all those centuries ago.

But, it was enough.

In those final moments, Raix found the peace he was looking for all this time. The meaning for his suffering and the resolution. A gentle smile on his face.

The final ember within his heart guttered out, forever.

* * *

Raigengrau let out a sharp gasp. His hand shot up, desperate to hold Raix’s own against his cheek, even as his body was now nothing more than a mere shell.

What did...what did you just say?” The hand he clung to was growing ice-cold. His tears poured down his face, the doppelganger frozen.

Raigengrau always knew. It’s why he was so relentless in pursuing Raix. Desperate for acceptance, even if it meant breaking him down and building him back up again. Because he always remembered that moment in Strasbourg.

“...Oh.” Raigengrau whimpered. The sound was foreign to him. His own voice sounded strange. The distortion, the multilayered trio of voices that formed the chorus of the damned whenever he spoke, was fading. The Serpens-shaped scar on his body was knitting itself together, melting away. Healing.

He pressed his cheek against Raix’s hand paw. The coldness was numbing, yet Raigengrau didn’t want to let go. Couldn’t let go.

Oh, Baby Bat. Raix. You...you _ remembered. _”

With his free arm, Raigengrau reached underneath Raix’s limp body and pulled him close to his form.

So cold. Colder than any corpse. You...you always had so much fire within. And now... you’re freezing

He sat up, clinging Raix against his body, burying his snout into the crook of Raix’s neck.

He didn’t hear himself cry out, the keening scream fading into painful sobs. Emotions crashing through his body, a tidal wave of feeling that had broken a dam.

Raigengrau was whole. Raix was whole, yet empty. They were one. And it was the most wonderful feeling in the world.

It was the single most painful sensation he had ever felt.

The moments flashed through his mind. The crushing loneliness that seemed to follow Raix wherever he went. The terror of being subjugated, of being treated like a pet, by the one that claimed to have loved him. The fury, the rage, all coalescing into a pyroclasm of flame that became his Wildfire. The same fire that now burned within Raigengrau.

And even so, he had felt the peace within Raix. It wasn’t resignation. It wasn’t sadness. It was...joy. Knowing that he had finally figured it all out. The realization of what his life had led up to. That he remembered the single, most pivotal moment of his life.

And that Raix had finally smiled for the first time in centuries, when he reunited not only with his other half, but his long-forgotten friend.

* * *

Daybreak arrived, the scorching rays of the deadly sun shining through the stained glass windows of the foyer. Raix’s rapier, Rosenthorne, dangled from Raigengrau’s hip.

The doppelganger cradled the lifeless body of his other half, refusing to leave him to burn in the sun. He had promised sanctuary. Even if they were one now, he would fulfill his promise to his friend.

“I...don’t know how to describe it to you, Baby Bat. I don’t know if you can even hear me. Within. Or whatever.” Raigengrau spoke not only to himself, but to the limp body in his arms. His voice was different now. The distortion had left his body completely, leaving him with a voice that was identical to Raix’s.

“But…” His claws clicked against the floor of the foyer. “I think I do feel you. Because the emptiness is gone. The holes are filled. We’re together again.”

Raix, of course, didn’t answer.

Raigengrau felt the warmth of the sun behind his back. He wasn’t affected by it, but he held Raix closer to his body, ensuring that even his lifeless shell would be protected.

The doppelganger glanced behind him, catching the kaleidoscope of colors that illuminated the foyer.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the sun in a long time, Baby Bat. It’s beautiful.” Raigengrau smirked, before his eyes fell upon the cracked window.

The one with the depiction of Ketzgryf and Raix together.

Raigengrau stared at it for a long time, before he resumed his walk with Raix in his arms.

“The hard part’s over, Raix. Ketzgryf is fuckin’ done. And we don’t have to fight anymore. The nightmares are over.” Raigengrau ducked into a corridor in the opposite wing of the academy, away from the shattered mirror he crashed through. Away from the foyer where he had finally reunited with his other half. “I’ll check in on your crybaby-I mean, Marius. Like I promised. I-” Raigengrau stuttered. “We both will. Like we both promised each other.”

He gave a sharp laugh. “...This ‘we’ stuff is gonna get on my nerves real fast. It’ll take a while for me to say that right. So...yeah.”

The long walk down the hallway felt like an eternity, Raigengrau seeing another large mirror at the end of the corridor. His destination. Their home.

“The show’s over, Raix.” Raigengrau choked out a sob. “The different reflections of you? Of us? Fuck ‘em. Fuck the other reflections in the worlds and to the Hells with all the other places. They were all just toys and passing interests.” He struggled to form a smile on his face, looking down at Raix’s form. “I have you. And you have me. You’re the real deal. And I’m the one in the mirror, always here for you. Just like I promised you.”

He leaned down to plant a kiss on Raix’s forehead. Ice-cold. He would never be able to get used to how utterly cold he was now. But...he still had Raix.

“I’ll keep watch over you. I’ll chase away the bad dreams. The ghosts of the past, they can’t hurt us. Not anymore.” Raigengrau never stopped moving. Never eased up on his hold on Raix. “You can finally catch up on all that sleep you missed out on. Because I’ll be here, watching over you. My…” A lump formed in the doppelganger’s throat. “...my beautiful, perfect Baby Bat. We’ll have all the time in the world together.”

“It’s all I ever wanted. To make sure you were never lonely.”

Raigengrau took a shuddering breath, trying to compose himself.

Shit...who knew that being whole would hurt so damn much...but also felt so right?” The doppelganger smirked at his thought, before he glanced at you one final time.

“That’s the final curtain, folks. No peeking on what we’re planning on doing. I’ve been waiting to spend time with this brat for a long while.” His smirk widened into a grin. “We’re gonna have a hell of a homecoming party.”

“I’d say to stick around, but this is the series finale.” Raigengrau winked. “Hope you enjoyed the show.”

His attention snapped back to the mirror. To the beautiful dragon in his arms, the same boy that he cried and laughed with, all the way back in Strasbourg, hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Now reunited with, forever.

The surface of the mirror rippled like water, as Raigengrau prepared to step through one final time. Now with his other half in his arms. Never to be lonesome again.

Raigengrau looked down at Raix’s peaceful face. That smile still on the vampire dragon’s muzzle. Never having faded once.

Raigengrau returned the smile.

“Rest well, Baby Bat. We’re home.”

End Notes

As mentioned in the beginning notes, I have included some art of the characters mentioned in this fic that I have commissioned.

SOME EXPLANATIONS + ADDITIONAL ART + MY OWN THOUGHTS

(Spoilers below)

Q: What is with the fourth-wall breaks with Raigengrau?

A: Raigengrau has a form of meta/fourth-wall awareness. This is due to having part of a Chaos God's soul within him. Chaos Gods, in my setting, are written to have this awareness.

While, yes, you could then consider "so why doesn't Raigengrau know what's gonna happen in the end", I like to consider that there is some suspension of disbelief and that it's mostly done for fun.

Though, there are some times where I do try to play it straight and aim for a meta-horror aspect...

Q: What the hell is with Raigengrau calling Raix "Baby Bat" all the time?

A: I came up with this a while back and I liked the idea of Raigengrau giving out nicknames to almost everybody. With Raix, it's "Baby Bat", because Raix is a bit of an emotional disaster and has the emotional fragility of a baby + vampires + Bats + vampire bats = Baby Bat

It rolled off the tongue really well, and I had a few people in my circles think it was cute, so it stuck.

Q: Those chapters with the micros / face-licking were weird.

A: I was being self-indulgent. Most people that follow me on FurAffinity/Bluesky/Twitter (RIP) are also into that shit.

Q: Your French sucks

A: Thank you. I'm trying to learn. I'm doing what I can.

Q: I think you condone non-con/rape or (insert other bad thing) IRL-

A: Jesus fucking christ.

Look, I'm not trying to sound like an asshole here, but I've been writing on and off for a while and only started taking my writing more seriously. I've written a variety of subjects, especially in the furry kink field.

I REALLY think everyone here has some form of media literacy and understands nuance and shit. But I have been put on blast on occasion over the years, regarding the content I write and it is -exhausting-

Just...be cool.

Q: I've noticed you have some amateur af writing

A: Like the point above, I've only started to take my writing a lot more seriously as of recent. If there is something egregiously wrong, I do apologize.

If you made it all the way to the end, I truly do appreciate you all. I've only started posting my work to AO3 recently, as I've only really written on Furaffinity for years.

I do understand the themes present here are difficult + rough. I didn't wanna hold anything back.

But I did really enjoy writing it, and I love writing the strange relationship between Raix X Raigengrau. They're both a bit of a disaster, even if Raigengrau came from Raix.

Thank you for reaching the end of this journey. I hope you enjoyed it.

(Yes, if you haven't noticed yet, based off the art I've commissioned and my outfit designs for my characters, I do really like Castlevania: SOTN and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Alucard's fit + the academy uniforms from Utena are fire af designs and I will not hear otherwise)
