Chapter 13: The Final Piece
Two shaggy grizzly bears sat side-by-side in the arena, patiently picking at their toes. Nearby a complex web of tangled lines passed through one of the larger pearl-drops of Chase’s event tree. The last gem on what had been a long chain of dewdrops wobbled as it passed into the nexus of ‘now’. Its dissolution would come with the forging of a new unique link across dimensions – the seventh and last interface.
In the sketched world Zaru’s gem suits had been transported to a bear sanctuary. There, four naked men gathered in a room dedicated to sex. Two of the men – the owners of the sanctuary – held pineapple-sized faceted orbs in their upturned hands. Purple crystal flowed around their outlines to encapsulate their shape, transforming the flat sketch into a multi-dimensional person.
Around the periphery of the arena of minds five animal avatars watched their sixth kin and his duplicate self huff with arousal. “Urf,” rumbled one of the Zaru bears. “These men are… incredibly sexual. Their response to our interface is…” he paused to gasp a shaking breath, “… profound. As well as being highly attuned to bears they’re deeply attracted to each other.” Masculine pheromones roiled in a heady cloud around the observers. Intense sexual arousal hummed throughout the arena, across the interface. The bear-hybrids dropped forward onto all fours and immediately thin strings of clear lubrication dripped from their hardening cocks. One of the bears positioned himself in front of the other and raised his stubby tail.
“I can’t use my fingers to prepare myself like the humans are doing,” murmured the rear Zaru. “Claws… too long. But I can improvise…” The bear pushed his leathery nose up under the tail of his partner and ran his tongue across the exposed pucker. His two avatars gasped in unison, sharing the pleasure of his coarse tongue licking the sensitive flesh. Both bear cocks throbbed in arousal making their puckers involuntarily clench. At the moment of relaxing Zaru pressed his tongue forward, penetrating the tight ring. Eight inches of prehensile muscle wriggled and flexed inside the virgin passage of the front bear. Zaru spread his tongue wide, thickening the flexible muscle to stretch out the other’s sphincter. Echoes of one human being spread by four fingers of his lover matched the sensation of the bear’s tongue inside Zaru.
As the humans prepared to mate, Zaru withdrew his tongue. Its absence left himself feeling empty and longing to be filled by a different organ. The rear bear plodded forward and clambered over the wide rump of the other, draping his front paws around their waist. His chest pressed against the humped shoulders of the lower bear. The questing tip of Zaru’s penis – thin but held rigid by an internal bone - stabbed through the saliva-slicked ring of his second avatar. At the same moment one of the human males penetrated his lover. Four males groaned in bliss mirrored in a kaleidoscope across two universes.
Stomping his rear legs to get a better angle Zaru hunched his hips and pushed the entire length of his penis into his lower avatar. The bear’s cock was long, thick as his tongue and flared slightly wider at the tip. It rubbed his second self in delicious ways. Unable to resist waves of stimulation washing from his interface Zaru began humping his hips rapidly, matching the frenzied love-making of the humans who shared his reproductive organs.
Dog, horse, tiger, orca and the bull hybrid stood in a circle at the edge of the arena, basking in warm arousal radiating from the mating bears. The sires stroked their own animal cocks while they watched their progeny copulate. Waves of pleasure built in intensity, became quick, pounding surges of stimulation. The bears and their human counterparts rapidly approached their release. Their audience groaned in anticipation of the pending orgasm. Hands and paws became blurs along animal cocks as the sire avatars masturbated with the mating.
A detonation of ecstasy erupted across the linked universes. Zaru’s coded instructions for differentiating his progeny fired through his interface. His reproductive organ throbbed and pulsed, squeezing the data into the second instance of his organ. A blue-green ripple of energy coruscated across the organ encapsulating one of the humans. In milliseconds the second organ refined the data, firing the response back along a newly forged interface to the lower bear avatar. Crystal chimes tinkled as aquamarine facets cascaded free of the humans to reform orbs.
Zaru roared with the collapsing interface, pumping his essence into his mirror. Compressed packets of distilled experience flooded into the receiving avatar. Animal semen hosed in streams from their watching sires. It splashed across the two bears, matting their fur and dripping to mix with the lower bear’s seed on the arena floor. Intense detonations of pleasure rippled outward from the avatars, through the auditorium and suffused the audience of a thousand observing minds.
Aftershocks of pleasure began to diminish as one bear lay exhausted atop the other. Zaru rested his chin on the lower bear’s hump between his shoulders, panting with exertion, squeezing the dregs of his emission into his mate. The two bears collapsed on the dais before Zaru could dismount and they sank into their hibernation.

The new mind processed information packets, genetic processes built a unique personality. Five days after the bears’ mating a new creature stood in the arena before the assembly of minds. “My name is Willow,” said the figure in a soft, musical voice. “My avatar blends human and cervine attributes.” The figure gestured down his body with his hands. “I stand upright on two hooves, as necessitated by the coming event keystones but my colouring and face emphasize the deer characteristics.” Willows coat along his back and flanks was a rich red-brown with cream-coloured spots. His deep chest, abdomen, sheath and scrotum were a lighter cream which extended around his buttocks and underside of his tufted tail. His face was long, red-brown with cream highlights around his dark, intelligent eyes. Two rounded ears stood out from a ridge near the top of his head, just below three-pointed antlers. As he spoke his ears twisted, animated, sensitive to each new sound. “I am the final hybrid for the human uplifting.” Welcoming chitters of acceptance greeted the newest mind to their community.
Glowing filaments adorned with shimmering gems materialized before the assembly. Chase manipulated the construct to highlight a pending keystone event. Thousands of event lines converged on a large pearl connecting two halves of the construction. The large pearl trembled close to the ‘now’ nexus of the event trees. Seven knotted tangles of interface lines between the trees slid along glowing paths toward the trembling pearl. “In twenty-five days the humans will complete the machine,” rumbled the Great Dane avatar. “This is our final opportunity to diverge from my proposed event construct.” He gestured toward a dark blotch on one tree extending oily tendrils near the large pearl. “A path exists where we sever our interface to the human universe.” He presented a modified web of glowing lines and pearls without seven tangled knots linking universes. The purple bruise of conflagration consumed the entirety of one half the construction and small tendrils jumped across to taint the second half. “The cost of severing is the entirety of life in the human star system. We can relocate our minds here so the bleed across impact is minimal in our universe. Few thousands of minds would perish here. All seven avatar minds would be sacrificed to break the interface.” Distressed murmuring echoed around the auditorium.
Another version of the filigreed tree emerged. Chase continued. “If we maintain the interfaces and succeed…” the dark blotch receded from the human universe, dispersing around spawning golden threads bedecked with new pearls, “… no minds are lost to the annihilation event. There are points where out morality is… suspect.” He indicated some dull, smudged pearls on the web. “In certain events motivations are ambiguous – we could be compromising our ethical standards.” Concern ebbed and flowed through the onlookers.
A third intricate structure materialized. Several tiny pearls on tenuous threads fractured. Linked golden strings fractured nearby pearls. Large keystone gems fell off threads linked to the bruised section of a tree. The bruising spread, growing and consuming ever larger pearls and sections of the tree. Dark, roiling tendrils leaked through the seven knotted interfaces into the second half of the event tree. While the first half of the tree disintegrated, large chunks of the event construct representing the universe of the minds became tainted. The entire construct wavered with uncertainty. “If we continue on our path we may fail. Several unlikely event points are subject to random fluctuation.” He gestured to the blackened, tattered tree of the humans and the charring on their own event tree. “Inevitably the conflagration will consume our avatars as it leaks across dimensions. Millions of our minds will be annihilated along with the human world.” Horror surged through the auditorium. This outcome would necessitate thousands of years to replace the lost minds.
“Why was this possibility not anticipated earlier?” Ikon growled the question.
Chase addressed the ebony bull. “As more interfaces linked dimensions resolution improved for the human event tree. Subtle decisions and their consequences gained clarity in the structure. Humans can be fickle in their responses.” He indicated blurred patches in his original construct. “These events have been unknowable until now.”
Willow spoke. “The decision was already made. Chase voices our uncertainties. Ikon expresses our frustrations. Fear and hope vie for dominance.” The deer gestured and two of the trees faded to insignificance. “We follow Chase’s original event structure. The council of minds gives us broad freedom to act to ameliorate detrimental consequence. We trust in the moral integrity of our brethren.”
Agreement susurrated across the auditorium. Chase’s plan was worth pursuing. Every mind already knew this outcome was inevitable, but discussion and dissent was necessary.
With its seven knotted tangles of events the large pearl edged along its thread ever closer to ‘now’.
