The Matcha Dragon At My Local Cafe
Finished a poem! This one from earlier today. Partially inspired by my trip to Japan back in March and partially inspired by me wanting to write more dragons. Wanted to write a cozy little something about a particular kind of friendship or at least what one hopes can be considered friendship.
The Matcha Dragon At My Local Cafe
By: A.X. Bueno
I see them when it’s open which is almost every day
The purple and brown scaled dragon who routinely visits my local cafe
I don’t know their name exactly but I do know their favorite thing to drink
A piping hot cup of matcha green tea as into a cozy brown cushioned chair they sink
It doesn’t matter the weather or seemingly anything other than whether it’s open that day
They come often enough to give menu recommendations that don’t lead astray
Neither of us speaks much of each other’s language but we still find stuff to say
When we do talk to each other since they tend to get absorbed in the things they do
If you asked if we’re friends I’d say it’s true
We may not be that close with details of their life I’d probably miss
But we talk every time the chance arises and I hope I’m not so easy to dismiss
We’ve swapped short life stories and sometimes sweet treats as well
I don’t know exactly what I am to them but they’ve got me under their scaly spell
That said our tastes don’t completely align but we share a taste for tea all the same
Not matcha in my case but the tea is only part of why I came
We may originate from different worlds but we can continue to sip our separate tea
As I enjoy the warm feeling of a good drink and good company
I only hope that as we sit under this cafe roof together that they truly do like me
