#2 of Nizhoni, Power of the Spirits

Here is the first chapter. Again I'm not very good when it comes down to these things but here you go anyway. And to get this out of the way first, a cycle in these stories is a year.

...Seventeen cycles of the sun after Sinopa's death...

It was a relatively warm day of mid Full Flower Moon. Flowers were abundant everywhere around the Aruy village, amongst the trees and grass of the fields inside the valley. As custom for this month the festival for planting of the summer crops was underway. Most of the males of the village were out hunting whilst others stayed to help with the festival preparations. The females where sowing seeds in the crop fields, as well as preparing food for the nights festival and feast.

There was a surprisingly high amount of people in the Aruy village. Visitors from the Suwiwe village were present for the festival. The visitors were being shown around the village while kits of both the villages played together in the flower fields. The chief of the Aruy and Suwiwe villages were in the main lodge together speaking of the future, while decorations for the festival were set up around the village.

Among the females who were preparing the food was a lovely young vixen who; like most vixens in the village, was topless and only wore something that resembled a skirt. She had beautiful red fur, long black flowing hair, creamy white fur that started from the top of her bare chest that ran down between her breasts and continued down past the skirt as well as on her gloves and socks; one of which stopped at her ankle, she had black fur on the tips of her ears and tail as well, and had pale blue colored eyes. She stood around five feet five inches tall and had an athletic build from always being active around the village.

She was running down between tables that had been set up for the festival, placing wooden plates where people would sit during the nights feast. This years festival was most special because the daughter of the Aruy villages chief would be marrying the son of the Suwiwe village's chief. This marriage would bring both the Aruy and Suwiwe villages together with more than just a peace between them.

She had just set the last plate when a friend of hers snuck up from behind her, and reached under her arms and gave her breasts as nice squeeze, startling her.

"Hey Nizhoni!" her friend said in a playful voice as Nizhoni spun around.

"Una! By Tadewi don't scare me like that." Nizhoni said and laughed "Did you finish already?"

Una was another vixen of the Aruy tribe and Nizhoni's closest friend. She was only one year younger then Nizhoni but several inches shorter. She stood at four feet ten inches tall, with a petite body. She had the village's natural fur color; which was orange and white, the white starting under her chin, which led down her throat, covered both her breasts and belly, between her legs and her thighs. Her gloves and socks were black except one glove on her right hand and the tips of her ears and tail tip which where also white.

"Yep, what about you?" Una asked.

"Just finished placing the last plate...right before that little playful grope." She said which made Una laugh.

"So what do you want to do now that the works done?" Una asked as the two of them started walking towards the center of the village.

"Oh there are a few things I could think of." She said with a grin and put her arm over Una's shoulders and groped her right tit making Una giggle. "But there's still work to be done at Maka's."

"The shaman?" Una said as they turned onto a trail less used that led up into the tree line where the shaman's home was.

"Yeah, she requested my presence today and I'd love to know what she does." Nizhoni said after removing her arm from Una.

"I swear your one of the hardest working vixens in the whole village!" Una said and they both laughed.

"Well I always have so much energy I don't know what to do with myself. So I just help out when and where I can." Nizhoni said as they came to a stop in front of Maka's home.

"Well ok then...I can count on you to be at the festival tonight right?" Una asked.

"I should be." Nizhoni said and hugged her friend goodbye.

After Una walked back towards the village Nizhoni stepped up to Maka's home. It was built similar to other building in the village; made from stone and wood, but it was surrounded by trees. Most of the villagers homes where built into the natural caves in the area but the shaman of the village usually had there homes outside with the elements.

She knocked on the side of the wall and shortly after Maka's head appeared out of the entrance.

"Ah Nizhoni! I've been expecting you come in, come in!" Maka said while signaling Nizhoni to come in with her hand.

"How are you doing today Maka?" Nizhoni said as she followed Maka into the dwelling.

"I am fine this day." She said as she sat down.

The inside of her home was neatly arranged with mementos of all kinds sitting on shelves all around the main room. There was a small fire pit in the center of the room, with chairs positioned around it. There was a small fire lit which illuminated the room because there were no windows. Maka was sitting in a chair farthest from Nizhoni and she was signaling her to sit in the chair in front of her on the other side of the fire.

Nizhoni sat in the seat that Maka pointed at and made her self comfortable before she asked "So what is it that I'll be helping you with today?"

"Oh there's no work to be done." She said as she pulled out some herbs, spices and minerals and began throwing them into the fire in certain amounts and orders. "I just want you to relax, close your eyes and breathe in these vapors Nizhoni."

"Um...ok." She said and closed her eyes and took a deep breath through her nose.

The scents that emanated from the fire where quite nice and Nizhoni found that she liked the scents. Nizhoni felt her whole body begin to relax, she leaned back in the chair she was sitting in and soon felt as if she had left her body. To her it seemed as if she was floating, she also felt a burning sensation on her shoulder and she could see things she normally wouldn't have seen.

In this state she was in she could see what seemed like; what she could only describe as, the spirits of animals in the trees around Maka's home. She could see in the distance, the people of the village; some looked...brighter then others while others seemed dimmer. She didn't realize that there were that many people in the village. The only people she couldn't see were Maka or herself.

Maka watched as Nizhoni closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. Then the smoke that drifted from the fire seemed to envelope her and surrounded her and soon she seemed to drift away from the mortal plain. Soon after she had closed her eyes a faint glow started emanating from her shoulder. Maka went behind Nizhoni and examined the mark that had appeared. It was a light blue glowing glyph that was not on her but seemed to float a few centimeters off her.

"Just like what Huyana and Kimi said so many cycles ago. So...you are a Cheveyo, aren't you Nizhoni? Maka said as she examined Nizhoni and smiled "You're the first one in over two hundred cycles of the sun. Hmm, you are also the first female from this village as well...you are very special."

Maka got up and walked out of the room. A few moments later she returned with a sack full of feathers and a blanket, she walked over to an area of the room that held an additional bed and set the items down. She then went over to and managed to pick Nizhoni up and move her to the bed. She put the feather sack under Nizhoni's head and covered her with the blanket.

"You need to rest now young Cheveyo, tomorrow will be a long day for you." Maka said and left the room.

*****************

Nizhoni had a strange dream. She could see two other people with her, one was covered in pale white fur and hair with red eyes and looked similar to herself but she could tell that he wasn't from one of the Eastern tribes. The other had golden fur and hair with eyes that seemed to change color, she had seen eyes like that and they were called hazel. She knew what he was, he was from the Western wolf tribes.

The Western tribe wolf had a blood colored mark in the center of his back while the pale white one had a mark on his forehead that seemed to glow a pale orange color. On her she noticed a light blue glowing mark on her shoulder.

Then she looked at what the three of them were staring at. She looked up and noticed three spirits two male and one female...one of which she knew from her tribes folklore as Matchitehew; he is the lord of the life after death realm of pain and torture. He is the one responsible for corrupting pure and righteous people into evil beings that hurt and kill others.

The other two she knew were his younger siblings but she did not know their names. It seemed as if the evil spirits where trying to break free from the realm that the good spirits banished them into.

She had no idea what this dream meant or what it held for her. The spirits attacked and she awoke...
