#10 of Shadow of a Freelancer

Ah and here's ch 10 part 1?. I decided to do something different in this chapter unlike ch 9. Also I wrote something that I've never even tired to write before so forgive me if it's...off. Lure and Shadow are on a mission together in this one...you get to learn about her this time. Also this chapter was becoming very long. I've split it into two parts. This is the first one, part two should be up in a few days.

Warning: There is a sexual encounter between adults and a cub in this part of the chapter as told in a first person view from the cub as an adult. Yes it's told in past tense, and if no one likes that or you're under 18 then you probably shouldn't read it. Also I do not condone the actions that take place between said cub and adults.

The Cupidita just dropped out of hyperspace by the planet Daghain; a lawless and fear filled world, to meet up with an informant of Deltas who had acquired info on the Outcasts and why they seemed to be working hand in hand with the I.F.H.W. It had been about a month ago that Shadow and Dead Eye had been attacked on a false job. Since then multiple Freelancers had been attacked, most never made it back; making the death count up to 473. Lure and Shadow were sent out to this planet to meet the informant.

Lure and Shadow beamed down close to where Deltas informant specified to meet while Lure had the Cupidita in orbit around the planet, unable to get it into a synchronized obit it would circle the planet every five hours. After taking a look around where they beamed down too, they stuck close together.

It was night; about 9 P.M. planet time. There were so many people, furs and humans alike that looked like they would drop you just by the way you looked at them. There also seemed to be two main Families on this planet that fought with one another quite frequently. Members of these Families acted like lookouts on street corners and shot deadly glances at the other Family members; both parties held energy and phase weapons.

As Lure and Shadow walked down the path towards the rendezvous point they took notice of the Family members, weapon smugglers selling guns to random people while Family members supervised the selling, slavers selling all age's of furs and humans alike, and street kids without parents or homes stealing food off nearby food stands. Then they passed the one thing that seemed to bother Lure the most; prostitutes selling them selves for barely a crust of bread.

Shadow noticed the sad look on her face as they walked past them but decided not to ask as they continued onward. Then they came to a building and looked up at the sign in disbelief. Katt's strip club the sign read. It looked like the sleaziest, sluttiest and most vulgar place someone would want to go to.

"You've got to be kidding me." Lure said as she shook her head.

"Who ever Delta's informant is, I'm already not liking ‘em." Shadow said as the neon sign of a cat shaking her hips flashed back and forth.

"I hope whoever it is, is already here. Come on." Lure said as they both entered the place.

The first thing they saw was of course the strip dancer's swinging on poles; two skunk girls and several cat girls. Some of the girls seemed like they had just gotten on the main stage while others were completely nude. If only it ended there, some of the girls were fucking some customers on stage. There were girls giving blowjobs in the corners of the room while others where having full on orgies in the back rooms.

While they were walking someone seemed to think Lure was one of the girls who worked there; someone who was drunk and didn't seem to notice the power armor she was wearing. So as they were near the bar, this customer reached out and grabbed her ass and said "Hey sweet cheeks lets go to the back." As he tried to pull her towards the back rooms.

The Lure that Shadow knew as a playful tease disappeared; normally he'd might see her act sweet and play hard to get, but that's not what happened. As she grabbed the guys hand and snapped his arm on the edge of the bar, then let out a barrage of punch's and kicks till the man dropped to the floor, Shadow was surprised. She then kicked him a few good times in the side too and even spat on him to finish it off; all of this went unnoticed or it seemed no one cared.

"Don't ever touch me." She said in an acidic tone.

Shadow watched in amusement and awe. He always thought that Lure was just a flirt but it seemed like she had another side too, this made him think "(man, she may be a flirt but she can be deadly too)"

After she attacked him Lure went and took a seat at the bar. Shadow decided to let her cool off as he looked around to see if Delta's informant was around but he had no such luck. When he went back to the bar he found out that another person had tried to feel her up and ended up just like the first guy. He took a seat next to her at the bar and ordered a few shots.

As he waited there he looked over to Lure and noticed that she had a sad look on her face so he asked "What's the matter Lure? You look like someone you knew just died."

"Oh nothing." She answered solemnly as Shadow's shots were set in front of him.

He went to grab one but Lure grabbed both and downed them in two seconds, then slammed the glasses down onto the bar. Shadow chuckled and ordered two more for himself and another two for her.

"Well as far as I know, nothing doesn't provoke someone into nearly killing another, nor does it make them sad." Shadow said as he drank his shots.

Lure just looked at the two shots in front of her and considered telling him why. She knew that the Freelancer code didn't stop a Freelancer from telling another about their past, or what their real name was, only that they fully trust whoever they tell. She trusted Shadow; a lot more then anyone she ever knew, she even...liked him. She drank one of the two then turned to him.

"You want to know what it is that makes me the way I am." Lure asked.

Caught of guard at the question, Shadow said "Well, I'd like to know what it is that makes you...you. Why you act flirty around everyone, and yet here you nearly kill someone who mistook you for an employee. Not that I blame you for what you did mind you, actually it made me rethink how I see you."

"Ok then, I'll tell you, but it's also connected to why I hate the Electus. So I'll just tell you where my life went from unbearable to having a second chance." Lure said, then downed the other shot and asked for a couple more.

After she had eight more shots she felt like talking. She started at the worst night of her life, as well as one of the most sorrowful yet joyful nights as well.

"It was just another night, like the last three years had been, ever since my father found a new way to make money. We were in a rented room at some club, my father, little brother and sister, and me. Our mother died giving birth to my little brother and sister five years before that night. Every week it was the same; he'd rent a couple rooms somewhere and invite a few adults over for ‘work' as he called it."

*********************

We lived on a colonial world at the frontier. There was hardly any law out that way, and what little there was couldn't be upheld with the small law enforcement in the area. We were hard pressed for money, so my father would let strangers fuck ME for money. He'd use the money to feed us and pay bills but I'd only get scraps of food for all I did."

I was thirteen at the time, I still remember screaming "No! I'm not going to do it again!" at my father.

He'd just smiled softly at me and kneeled down and told me "Ok sweaty, you don't have to do it. We just won't eat this week."

My little brother and sister both said "But, we're hungry daddy."

He looked at them, his smile faded as he said "You older sister doesn't want to work tonight. If she doesn't want to that's her choice."

The looks that my little brother and sister gave me nearly broke my heart. They were too young to understand what it was that our father made me do as ‘work', they only knew that I'd work and there would be money for food. They also didn't know that I only did it for them. I loved them dearly and wanted to make their lives easier; even if that meant my life was rough. With tears in my eyes I nodded my head before saying "Fine, I (sniff) I'll do it."

"Wonderful, it looks like we will be able to eat after all kids." My father said as he turned around; probably hiding the grin that always split his face on nights like these, and walked across the room we were in.

He turned around and said "Come now Kathy, you've got customers to tend to."

I nodded again; crying softly, and walked over to him. He pushed open the door and walked into a room filled with about eight male adults; one human, one bear, two rabbit bucks, one wolf, a cat and a fox. Each one of them had a devilish smile.

"I believe you're first." My father said to one of the ‘Customers' who handed him a large amount of cash" Lure stopped then shuddered as she recalled the look on that adults face.

*******

Shadow noticed that she shook as if remembering something very unpleasant. He couldn't believe that she could recall it all so clearly and was shocked at what she said her father made her do, he wanted to ask questions. He waited however, not pushing for details just letting her tell her tale. She took another shot before continuing.

*******

"Then he smiled at me, it scared me. "Come now Kathy, your with him first." My father said to me in a loving tone.

I hesitated a second before heading over to the cat. He put his paw on my back before he led me to another room. This night however I overheard my father and another ‘customer' talking.

"So Mr. Nance how is it you can so callously sell your daughter like this?" He said to my father.

"Daughter? That mutt, don't make me laugh. She's just a stray that my wife wanted to adopt." My father said to him.

That was the last thing I heard before the door closed. I had never heard him say that before but it made since to me. I was always treated differently then my brother and sister, I was never given anything nice; except for when mom was alive, and even at that, life always seemed like hell around him.

The adult led me to the bed where he undressed. I was still in shock from what dad had said and didn't do anything. He grew impatient with me, he grabbed me by my arms with his claws extended; he punctured my arms and drew blood. He then violently tore my clothes off and threw me onto the bed.

I couldn't do anything to him and was crying. He got me on my hands and knees and positioned himself behind me. His barbed feline dick was already fully erect and he drove himself into me; the barbs hurt a lot but it wasn't the worst I'd have. I was repeatedly raped by all the males that entered the room that night." Lure stopped again and sighed.

*******

"That was the last straw for me; I didn't want to do it anymore. I couldn't stand it." Lure said to Shadow as she thought about what she was going to say next.

Shadow didn't say anything as she pondered what to say. He liked Lure a lot; not for what everyone saw her as but for what hardly anyone ever saw her do. When he'd be feeling down about something he never showed it, yet she always seemed to know and would get him to talk about it. He was starting to see why she knew when someone felt sad about something; or so he thought, all because she had it the worst and knew every way to hide it and could tell when people tried to hide it.

She sat their a few minuets; she grew tired of the taste the shots had and asked for a bottle of beer. She drank half of its contents before she continued.

*******

"After the ‘work' was done that night we returned to our home that was way out on the country side. When we got home I immediately took a shower. Every time I was forced to do that, I always felt filthy afterwards. To me it seemed as if my very soul was being blackened by each thrust into me, I felt miserable. Luckily I never got pregnant. Though I do wonder what would have happened if I did. That night was the worst I ever experienced though.

That bear decided to fuck me hard in the ass. It was the first time that anyone had stuck their dick in me there, I was in pain the whole time and nearly blacked out. Thankfully he was the last ‘customer' that night but the damage he caused, I only found out when I took the shower. I reached around and put my paw on my butt to try and feel what he had done; it still hurt and when I brought it back around my paw had blood on it, which was rinsed away by the water.

*******

"Never again" I said as I gently washed there too." Lure said and stopped. Feeling a littlie shy at what she just said to Shadow.

She looked over to him and noticed he was looking at her but with a sort of kindness and sorrow in his eyes. When she first met Shadow his eyes were filled with hate and he seemed to never trust anyone. She had got him to talk sometimes about what I was that made him so angry all the time but she never dug to deep; lest he start to hate her too. She looked away and blushed a little before continuing.

*******

"I didn't go to bed that night, only pretended too so that father would go to sleep. During the time between going to bed and the time our father fell asleep, I was plotting against him. When all the lights were out, and he lay in his bed snoring loudly, I got up and entered the kitchen.

I was looking for something sharp, that's when I laid eyes on the knife set on the stove top. I drew the largest knife out of its holder and examined it.

"This should do it." I said under my breath; my voice was a little shaky from what I was about to do.

I silently walked through the house; avoiding any boards that would creek, to the room that father slept in. I opened the door and it started to squeak, so I pushed it just far enough open and slipped into the room. He stirred a little but thankfully he didn't wake. I crept ever so slowly towards him.

He laid there with a grin on his muzzle, completely unaware of what was about to happen. Anger started to boil over in me as I raised the knife and slammed it down into his throat as hard as I could, then pulled at it as it sliced through his jugular. He had awoke the moment the knife punctured his throat but as the blade sliced his neck open, blood started to spray with each beat of his heart. I got covered in his blood...and it wouldn't be the last time I got covered in blood either.

He had no idea what had happened, he was looking everywhere while holding his paw to his throat. I'm not sure what went through his mind, but just a few moments before he died he looked up at me. When he did I said "Just die you bastard." Before he fell flat onto his back, seemingly lifeless.

After a few moments he was long gone. I was free from him; we were free from him at last but then came the realization." She said and chuckled a little before continuing "the realization that he was the only one who could care for us. I hadn't planed for what we would do after he was dead. I began to panic, as thoughts of us all dieing from starvation, lying in a ditch somewhere crossed my mind.

I calmed myself down so that I could think rationally. I still remembered that the staff at most of the places our father had rented rooms at always looked sad when they saw us. I wondered if they would possibly help us in some way. I'm glad I choose the one I did." Lure said and stopped.

******

Lure ordered something to eat. After it came out Shadow waited for her to finish, after she had eaten he decided to comment on what she said "So, your father used you as a child prostitute? Is that why you looked sad when we passed those prostitutes outside?"

"Yeah, it brought back the memories. Only they're doing it by choice instead of finding a real job. Then again it may also be a last resort for some of them. All I know is I had no choice in the matter, which leads to the next part." Lure said then drank a gulp of beer before continuing.

******

"I had been working as a waitress in one of the club's that knew of my plight. They took us in that night and sheltered us and even gave me a job. They never asked how we got away from that demented father of ours, they were just glad that we didn't have to endure him any more. In service of working as a waitress there, they gave us a couple rooms to live in, free food and of course pay for working so that I could buy things for my little brother and sister.

Most may take advantage of the lawlessness out that far but there were still some good people around. The first night I worked there, they told me that all I was to do was bring the customers food or drink when they ordered it. Since they knew of what I had gone through they had a standing rule that no one was to touch any of the waitress's.

Some customers did touch some of the waitress's but they didn't mind. The rule was more for me then any of the others. Of course my hosts learned that their new waitress wouldn't take any crap from people who stayed there, and so did all the people who visited the place.

Three years after I killed my father, I had just turned sixteen. It was a usual night, the place wasn't packed but it was full. There were a couple of people who had gotten drunk early. I had just brought them their fourth half gallon bottle of whisky when one of them decided I looked beautiful or something and decided to grab me by the waist and set me in his lap.

"Hey baby, how about you and I grab a room?" He said, I think; his words were very slurred, but they carried with them with the heavy smell of booze. He already had an erection growing in his pants as he reached up and squeezed my breasts.

As I said before, I wouldn't stand for it. Years of having to put up with it, I couldn't do anything to them due to my father. This time however I could do something and all the rage that had built up over the years was released on that one drunk. I grabbed the fresh bottle I had just brought them; smashed it on the table, turned around and plunged it into his face while I screamed something at him at the top of my lungs.

And I didn't stop there either; I repeatedly pulled it out and stabbed it back in, again and again, and again. It took several people to pull me off of him; but by that time the man was already dead. After that incident no one messed with me ever again while I worked there." Lure said; proud of that fact.

******

"Well, that's where the violence comes from." Shadow said and laughed.

"Yeah, he didn't deserve what I did to him, but then again maybe he did. You can never tell with folks that are out that way." Lure said.

"Hmm, I suppose. So, Kathy huh." Shadow said.

"Kathryn, actually." Lure corrected.

"Ok Kathryn, but what about the playfulness you show, and why do you always flirt if you don't want anyone to touch you?" Shadow asked

"I learned early that people would do anything for sex, or even for the possibility of sex. I guess I just use it as a means to get what I want." Lure said.

"Ah, that does explain that. What does that have to do with the Electus though?"

She was about to continue when a voice behind them asked "Would you two be Freelancers Lure and Shadow?"

They turned around and there stood a human male at 5 foot 10 inches tall. He was wearing a suit...a suit in this place? They couldn't help but laugh at him. He looked puzzled but he didn't move.

"May I ask what's so funny?" He said.

"Nice suit pal." Lure said and laughed.

"Ah I see, yes I'm wearing a suit. It makes me look like I just got off work, had a rough day and that I'm not ready to go home to my wife yet. Yet you two look ready for a war." He said and pointed at their armor and weapons.

Both Shadow and Lure said "I don't go anywhere with out it."

"Well, you two are definitely Shadow and Lure. Come; follow me upstairs so we may speak in private. I know Katt the owner; she'll let us use the lookout." He said and they followed.

******************

"My name's John .I don't have much info to give you two but I'll tell you what I know." He said to them as they sat down, Shadow and Lure on a couch, while John sat in a chair.

"That's fine; any info will help us considerably." Shadow told him.

"Please tell us what you know." Lure said and he nodded.

"Ok, my position in the I.F.H.W. is fairly high, but even I'm not privy to most of the information concerning how the Humanitists and the Outcasts contacted each other. I know that members of the Freelancer Outcasts had shown up out of the blue and offered advanced weapons to them and also would act as reinforcement for their troops. I've been wondering where they were getting the weapons for a while now.

"As time progressed the Outcasts started becoming more like the Freelancers are to the A.T.W.F. Soon they went past that and started commanding I.F.H.W. forces. They even led the attack on Moonbase not to far back.

"Lately the Outcasts wanted information from Inner Haven; it seems they had planted a spy in the Freelancer ranks quite a few years ago. From what I can tell, this person is one of the Outcasts so he knew exactly how to hide himself. I done know much on him, but he has to be human. With him their the Outcasts receive info on where Freelancers are operating.. The Outcasts offered the I.F.H.W to help cut down the number of Freelancers out their with that info, with their help of course in return for something. I'm not sure what." He said.

"So that's why there were Outcast ships and that Humanitist Battleship there on the job me and Dead Eye were on." Shadow said.

"You're telling me that there was a Battleship sent out to face only two Freelancers?" John asked.

"Yes, both Dead Eye and I thought that a tad bit much." Shadow said.

"I know that the Outcasts had been sending a few members and some I.F.H.W backup to take out Freelancers but, a whole Battleship? Wait I remember coming across something pertaining to certain Freelancers and even Delta. When they engage these few Freelancers they are to use any means necessary to do it." John said as he looked deep in thought.

"Would the certain Freelancers that info was talking about be part of the Cardinal Sin Fleet by chance?" Lure asked.

"Yes that name came up a lot. It seems they really want them dead. Luckily they don't know much on them. But they are specifically getting details on them from the spy." John said.

"So, the spy may be lurking closer to us then we thought." Shadow said.

"We have to warn everyone that someone we're talking to is the spy." Lure said.

"Are you two members of the Cardinal Sin?" John asked.

"Yes we are, the reason the Outcasts want us dead is because the Electus want us dead." Shadow told him.

"Ah, so the Electus is where the Outcasts must be getting their weapons...and before you ask I do know what the Electus is, I'm not Delta's informant for nothing. He's asked me to send him any information on the Electus I come across and he told me why. But he does forget to tell me things from time to time." John said and smiled.

"What else do you know?" Lure asked.

"Ah yes sorry. Ahem, I know that members of the I.F.H.W are being screened then start training to become Outcasts. The top Outcasts are starting to become the commanding officers on all I.F.H.W fleet ships. Also, a lot of supplies get shipped out to a single location out in space every few months. And the location changes each time." John said.

"That may be the ship that Dead Eye saw." Shadow said.

"Yeah your right. John do you know where they send the supplies before hand?" Lure asked.

"Yes I do. Ironically I'm the one who has to ship the orders of where to send the supplies." He said.

"Do you know what it is that the supplies are sent to?" Shadow asked.

"No."

"It's a giant ship. We believe that it's the Outcast HQ. Possibly even where the Electus are, Dead Eye and I were attacked by a smaller version of a beam weapon that the ship had. The smaller version was on that Battleship. The ship that Dead Eye saw is half the size of Inner Haven." Shadow said to him which made his jaw drop.

"Half?" John asked in surprise.

"Yes, half." Lure said.

"Then this news is going to be bad. I overheard a few Outcasts saying they were planning on attacking Inner Haven soon. When, I don't know." John said.

"Delta has been preparing for that possibility. All Freelancers know that the Outcasts are still around. But they don't know much about us and the Electus." Shadow said.

"Well if you're going to go to war with the Outcasts, you should probably tell all the Freelancers about the Electus before it's..." John was saying just as the door burst open.

They all turned to look who had just interrupted them when a hand held version of the beam weapon they were talking about fired at John; killing him immediately. Acting on impulse Shadow grabbed Lure and ran towards a window. The beam weapon fired again but Shadow moved to fast and with Lure on his shoulder he dove out the window.

***************

They had landed roughly on the ground but were up fast and started sprinting through the city. It was around 11 at night, so the streets were fairly empty; except for the occasional street thug but the most common people out were the family members. However there seemed to be multiple Outcasts following them. They managed to evade the Outcasts and found a hidden spot in a system of alleys and stopped there to wait for the Cupidita to get into range of transport; which was three hours away.

"(Pant, pant, pant) I can't believe it!" Lure said.

"I know (pant, pant) those were Outcasts. He was followed!" Shadow said.

"(Pant) that and (pant) was that a beam gun?" Lure asked

"Looked like it." Shadow said.

They had their sidearms drawn as they caught their breath. Just then two young pups came running from around the corner behind them; playing. The noise caught Shadow and Lure by surprise and they aimed their weapons in the direction the pups had come from. They were wolves like them, the girl eleven years old while the boy seemed to be eight; a brother and sister most likely. They stopped and dropped to their knees and huddled together in surprise and started shivering and crying.

They both lowered their weapons and Lure hurried over to them and with a caring and friendly voice said "Are you two alright? We didn't mean to scare you little ones."

Shadow stayed back; not having any experience with young kids. He stayed back and stood watch incase the Outcasts came and left the pups to Lure. The little girl was the first one to look up at Lure's smiling; yet worried, face. She seemed a little more relaxed now but still looked scared.

"Wh-why did you point guns at us?" the little girl asked sheepishly.

"You surprised us; we're hiding from some bad guys." Lure said.

"If you're just hiding, why you using guns?" the little boy asked nervously.

"If these bad guys find us, they'll...try to hurt us with guns too." Lure said to him.

The boy nodded but looked at her and said "What's your name?"

Lure smiled and said "My name's Lure. What are your names?"

The little boy smiled and said "I'm Timmy."

"I'm MaiGhan." The little girl said.

"My big silent friend here is named Shadow." She said and indicated him with her thumb "What are you two doing out this late at night all by your selves?" Lure asked.

There expressions changed from scared to sad. They both looked down and sadness emanated from them. Lure knew right away from the way they acted that they had no home or family to return to.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything." Lure said.

The little girl shook her head and said "It's alright, we're use to it. We live out here on the streets. The only family we have is each other."

Lure felt very sad now. These two reminded her of her little brother and sister. She considered something but shrugged it off, it wouldn't be allowed. Shadow looked back for a second and saw the look on her face. The look looked like she was considering something while at the same time looked like she saw something in them that reminded her of someone.

He turned back around just in time to see an Outcast turning around the corner and yelled "Watch out!" as the Outcast opened fire.

As gunfire erupted in the alley Shadow managed to take cover by sidestepping into an adjoining alley. Lure could have done the same but instead she put herself in between the Outcast fire and the two pups. Her power armor took most of the damage but it couldn't stop it entirely. She managed to grab the pups and pulled them into the alley where Shadow was as he fired at the enemy.

"Lure, are you alright?!" Shadow yelled over the gunfire.

"Ugh, (cough) I'll...I'll be fine." She said, hiding the blood she just coughed up into her hand from Shadow.

"This way." MaiGhan said as she pulled at Lure's arm.

"Oh shit!" Shadow yelled as the Outcast with the beam weapon appeared and fired.

As fast as he could Shadow picked up both pups in one arm and threw Lure over his other shoulder, then sprinted down the alley just as the beam weapons energy beam made contact with a column that held up the archway that was above them along with a walkway that it held. It made the entire length of walkway above them unstable and caused it to collapse.

Shadow dove to the left where the alley turned and barely managed to escape being crushed; the Outcasts weren't so lucky. Then his sensitive ears heard gunfire erupt from what seemed like everywhere. It seems that some members of both Families heard the gun fire and thought it was the other Family attacking. The Outcasts had just started a war between the two rivaling Families and anyone and everyone was a target.
