Aki quickly sat up on the bed and looked around the room with a scared expression. She let out a sigh of relief as she realized that she was still in Wuffy’s bedroom sitting on his bed. The other two, Niaa and Kass, were still laying there calmly and dreaming their dreams.

"It was just a nightmare...if only it would be at least a different one." - said Aki to herself.

When she was younger, she often had one and the same nightmare. Being in a large burning hall and being carried by someone through the flames, and all she could hear was a horrible painful scream. After some time the nightmare returned less and less often, but it was always the same one. After the clock on the night table left from her, just one hour passed by after they fell asleep. The nightmare made Aki's pulse run pretty high. She wanted to refresh herself and calm down a bit and she just knew the right place to do so. She carefully stood up from the bed and made her way to the door and out of the house. To not waking anyone up, she held her long tail in her paws for sure. In fact, Aki would be happy to wake Niaa up. If only it would be possible.

Behind the house was a huge garden with a not so small lake in the middle. It was separated from the rest of the garden with a tight row of trees and there was Aki heading. This was the place where Wuffy and Aki played together and where they were telling their stories to everyone who wanted to listen, no matter if it were humans or furs. Aki sighed as she came there. She never realized how beautiful this place was and the thoughts not to be able to come here anymore were making her sad. Just three days ago she was dying, wishing to be with those she loved as often as possible and now, she returned from being dead without a memory on how could that be possible. The last thing Aki remembered was Wuffy’s expression in the medical station when she told him about what she wanted to do for Kass. It hurt Wuffy so much, knowing that he will lose her if he will agree to that. The image of the big wolf holding her paw to the very end has carved into the back of Aki’s mind. Thinking about him always made her heart pounding a bit faster and the warm feeling inside was filling her with happiness. She never wanted to hurt him that much. She did not even know what will Wuffy say or even do when he will see her back alive! After she took off her light pink clothes, Aki sighed for the last time before she stepped into the cold water to refresh herself a bit.

Meanwhile, Kass was still sleeping in the bed next to Niaa and so he did not know that someone silently entered the house and made its way upstairs. The person stepped inside the bedroom and held on for a second when saw the two in bed. The person walked to them and reached out an arm towards them and stroke Niaa’s head where she had the bandages and gave her a soft kiss on her forehead. Then the white paw reached towards Kass and tapped softly on his shoulder what woke the boy up. At first the white paw let Kass think, that it was Aki, but the paw was somehow too big for her and when a male, but calm voice could be heard, Kass almost jumped out of his skin from the fear! The unknown furry held him down by pressing its paw against Kass’ mouth preventing him from screaming out. He was trying to free himself, but as he looked closely at the furry he calmed down, because he realized, that it could be only one person. Thanks to Aki’s colorful description, Kass knew for sure that the furry in front of him was no one else, than Wuffy. The wolf was very surprised to see Niaa and Kass here in his house, in his room, in his bed even. The bandages around Niaa's head and Kass in Aki’s jog pants led to only one question...

"What the fur happened?" - and Wuffy definitely wanted to know!

Kass shortly explained the whole mess they suddenly run into. He talked about the search for Aki, about the strange door and the room behind. To this point stayed Wuffy calm. For some, to Kass unknown, reason it has not surprised the wolf too much, but as Kass continued about Aki, and how she suddenly woke up and how Niaa came to the wound, Wuffy’s ears perked up in full attention. He wanted to know where Aki was, but Kass had no idea where she disappeared to. Wuffy knew that Aki was somewhere close and he was pretty sure to know where his little girl might be, but at first, he needed to take care of Niaa’s wound. Wuffy was impressed! The two young ones have done a great job with cleaning the wound and putting on the bandages. He looked at the wound on the back of Niaa’s head and it was on a good way to heal. He just changed the bandages for new ones and measured her temperature what was not as easy as by humans. There was no point putting the thermometer under the arm when your entire body was covered in warm fur. So Niaa must have hold it up for this one. Poor Kass, blushing hard he ended up holding Niaa's tail again...so it would not be in the way. Everything was all right; the only problem was that she was not waking up. The only thing they could do was to wait, so Kass and for all Wuffy decided to search for Aki. They did not feel well about leaving Niaa all alone in her condition, but they should be back as soon as they will find the little wolf. They left the house and walked towards the large back garden with the small lake.

And there she was, sitting on one of the large rocks set in the lake near the bank with her paws still in the cold water. As the two came closer to the lake, they both could swear to see an angel, as her wet white fur glittered in the sunlight. As Aki turned her head towards them, the light reflected by the clear water made her icy blue eyes twinkle like the purest crystals. The two were not even breathing from the wonderful scene. Only Wuffy dared to make a step forward. Step after step he was coming closer, still not sure if it was really her or just his wishful thinking. Kass stayed where he was, watching as the two wolves approached each other. Each step was faster than the one before. They were almost running when they realized that it was not a dream. The two wolves run right into each other's paws, cuddling and crying of joy seeing each other again. Wuffy lifted Aki in the air so she could see in his eyes and Aki put her arms and legs around him to hold her Wuffy tight. The tears smoothed their soft fur even more as their cheeks were rubbing against each other of joy.

This was a great relieve for Aki, knowing that not even this sudden change could affect the love between them. The big wolf let go of her so she could put on her clothes and then they walked back into the house. Aki wanted to explain what happened in the strange room where she woke up, but Wuffy calmed her down that he already talked with Kass about it. Yet, none of the two young ones could tell what happened to Aki in the medical station after the surgery, or how she came down there. Right now, however, that was the last thing they cared about. Aki was all right and that was all that mattered.

The two were waiting in the living room while Wuffy took a look at Niaa. As he came back to them, Aki wanted to apologize for breaking into the house like that, but he was not there. The big wolf was not bad at them at all. He saw for himself how it was looking like in the city, so what they did was just right. The hostility among the citizens was increasing fast, just a small spark and it could explode into an open war. Aki and Kass could not understand how humans and furs could hate each other so much. Wuffy explained to them, that it was not a hate for real, in fact it was the fear that let it came this fair. Kass opposed to Wuffy, saying that humans never feared the furs as long as he knew, but the wolf just smiled at this slightly.

"Yes, it really seems, that humans had no reason to fear, you were and still are the ruling side...but the truth is, the humans fear as much as we do. Fearing of what, you might ask? It is simple, the furs fear the past and the humans the future..." - said the wolf mysteriously.

Kass and Aki did not understand that, so Wuffy decided to reveal the past of this world in a way a bit different from what the two already knew from the school. He called them closer to him and then started to talk.

As they knew, many years ago, the very most of the world’s resources were wasted by the humans, but it was less known that the furs refused to be a part of that. The only way to save the world and its life was to stop humans from doing whatever they pleased and order balance. So it came to the opened conflict. Without the furs as the slaves, servants, and pets, the lifes of humans became much harder. Seeing how fast the furs reached the human level and in some parts even surpassed them, made the humans fear the future, where they could lose their dominance. On the opposite, the furs feared, that letting humans do whatever they want would result in destruction and slavery again, so they feared the past and that it could return. In the end, both sides realized that the only way to survive was to work together again. The biggest part on this had a small group of furs calling themselves Shadow Wolves. The only four members were all wolves, so there the name from. For those they loved, the Shadow Wolves and the leaders of the human forces got to an agreement to defend the peace in the new common world. So the main and the biggest city of this world has been built. It was COHAF – The City Of Humans And Furs. However, the land was destroyed and needed to be rebuilt. It took a long time, but it really became just as beautiful as it once was. Unfortunately, the conflict had a greater impact on the world than anticipated. With the time, the weather became wilder and very dangerous too. Today no one dares to walk out into a storm, no matter what. Thanks to the cooperation of the two sides, new inventions could have been done in science, technology, and medicine. Even through all these inventions, one thing could not have been solved as known... Where to get enough energy for everyone? And so the whole thing started again...blaming, hatred...and fear.

Kass and Aki were astonished! They learned about it at school, but no one explained it to them like this before. They wanted to know how Wuffy could know so much about the past. Things, which were not even in history documents, and more, he even talked about the Shadow Wolves. They were legendary, even so much that the most thought they were just a tale and not real, but Wuffy talked about them as if he would be there. How could he knew all that? The two were really curious, but Wuffy just smiled; saying, that maybe there is more to him than meets the eye.

Aki smiled at this too - "Yeah..." - she said - "...in real, you are a furred encyclopedia."

"With a tail!" - added Kass right after and all three laughed at this loud.

It was always a good thing to loosen up every now and then, even if there were still problems to be solved. What will they do now? What actually happened to Aki? Her heart was beating in Kass chest, so she must got it replaced by something else, while the black coloured tongue and blood led to the only one result. Aki became a "creature"! And if anyone will find it out, she will be dead within few hours! And what about Niaa? She was hit by the security bot and each treatment of such injuries must be reported. If they would bring her to the medical station they might make her a target to get to Aki.

Mentioning Niaa, Kass suddenly reminded himself on the important call she received before. It was about the accident with her little sister. Niaa could not visit her just because of them. So Kass wanted to help. The last thing they could do for the snow leopardess was to visit her little sister. Wuffy quickly calmed Kass down with a question if he even knew where Niaa’s sister was. Naturally, he had no idea where she could be, but he meant it serious, so he asked Wuffy for help. Kass had enough just to sit around and wait. Aki felt the same, so she asked Wuffy if he could find out where Niaa’s sister was so they could visit her.

The little wolf knew that it would be a piece of cake for him to find it out, as his name was not unknown in the city. In fact, Wuffy was just a nickname. Aki was calling him that way since she was very young and somehow they got used to it. The whole thing started when Aki came to the medical station on the beginning of her disease and Wuffy was visiting her any time he could, that meant everyday! They were talking, playing games, in other words laughing the whole time and enjoying together every second. Some of the other cubs asked Aki if they could join them, because they did not get visits as often and were bored for the most time. At first there were just few, but then it became so much, almost the whole cub section joined them. The laughter could be heard on the whole floor, so they feared the vets would forbid this. To everyone’s surprise, they even supported it by creating a special room for this after the vets saw that the health of the young ones has rapidly increased. The cubs always waited impatiently when he will finally come, and he never let them down. The laughter and the smiles were more than satisfying for Wuffy, as the young ones called him after Aki. So almost everyone was calling him that way, and some did not even know that it was not his real name. Wuffy’s true name was White Wolf. It was a strange name even for a furry, but for Aki he will stay Wuffy maybe forever.

Now, she was in need of his help again, so Wuffy took out a cell phone, which the two recognized well. It was the one Aki called help with for Kass in the park. The wolf tried to make a call, but the lines were dead. Maybe the situation was getting worse than expected. Wuffy said that the two should stay at home in safety and he will go to the city to check it out. Yet, just one look at the two was enough to tell that nothing could hold them there, but someone just had to stay there to look after Niaa. As there was no way to split the two cuties apart, the choice was done! Wuffy will stay in house to look after Niaa and the two will find her little sister. It was dangerous, but with Aki’s new skills, Wuffy had the feeling, that the two will be fine even without him. Before they could go towards another adventure, they had to do something with Aki’s outfit. Running through the streets with wings and a tail like that was not the best idea. Aki showed Wuffy the trick with the wings wrapped around her body, but this time she was not naked and the clothes stuck out from under the wings and on her back could be seen the braces of the jeans. Therefore, some radical changes must have been done on her clothes. The jeans were shortened to their maximum possible, so the wingtips could cover them, and the braces were removed from the back. The braces held the front part with the large pocket only around Aki’s neck, so they were not so obvious. When Kass saw Aki in the changed jeans, his new heart almost ripped the bandages around his chest to pieces. The two were really cute together, completely different from the rest of their kinds, as if they would not belong in this city full of hostility. Maybe they could be the future the two founders of COHAF wished and dreamed about.

A while later they were already walking back towards the medical station, direction city centre. The closer they came, the more security forces they saw on the way; checking the ID collar of almost every fur on the street that passed by. Oh, no! In the medical station, they removed Aki’s ID because she was officially dead, so this was a problem! And a human, Kass in this case, with a furry ID collar was a problem as well.

As they crossed the main street and walked towards the large building complex, one of the security guards started to walk towards them. He was coming closer and closer. Aki grabbed and held on Kass’ arm, her pulse was rising in the height as well as Kass’. The guard was almost by them! The two were ready for anything, hit or run. Then the guard waved a hand to their direction! Here goes, each moment he...passed by? What? Kass and Aki could not believe it! The guard really passed by and stopped an elderly pair, a husky and a woman, which were walking behind our two heroes, and started to check the husky’s ID and his class level. That was so close! They were lucky, this time. We will see how long will the Lady Luck stay with them. The two had no lust to find it out, so they hurried up to the medical station. However, the security was not the only reason. A storm was coming upon the city. You may think that a bit rain was not that bad, so why the rush, but this was different! It did not happen often that a storm this big was on the way, but if it was the case, you could expect the hell. According to season everything was possible, from heavy rain to blizzard, so the two really needed to hurry! After a short while, they finally walked into the Veterinary Medical Station and reached the reception.

The receptionist remembered Kass from the morning and she saw somehow happy to see that he felt already as good that he was dismissed.

"If she would only know..." - thought the two.

Kass did not want to lose time, because someone could start to ask questions, so he quickly asked if there was the doctor Wuffy send them to. The answer was yes and they let the vet call to the reception. The veterinarian’s name was Jennifer Rees and she was the main person there. If someone should know where the little snow leopardess was, then it was her. When the vet came there, Kass immediately introduced himself and asked where was Missy, Niaa's sister. The tall woman with light brown hair looked down at Kass from behind her glasses with a suspicious look. On this, Dr. Rees asked why Niaa did not come by herself, and if there was something she should know about. As Kass mentioned Wuffy, or White Wolf for humans, she stopped asking questions and suggested to the two to follow her. She told them that they do not need to call her Dr. Rees. For them she was Jenny. As they were walking away, Dr. Rees noticed Aki and smiled at her nicely, saying that it was all right, that she could talk and act naturally. Aki nodded hesitantly and smiled back, showing her black fangs. Dr. Rees was caught by surprise! She did not expect Aki to be a creature, but she calmed down quickly. She knew White Wolf for years, so she got used to that everyone close to him was special, not to mention Aki, Wolf’s protege.

They reached the room Missy was in with few more cubs from her class, which were injured by the accident as well. Missy, the four years old snow leopardess, was heavily injured on the head, but her condition was stable, she was just waiting for the surgery like the other cubs. The only problem was, that it needed to be done a laser surgery and as usual, there was not enough energy for it. Kass opposed to Jenny that he was on a surgery just a day ago and there was no problem! She just let out a sigh. Kass was a human of the LV9, and so there were almost no limits for him. If your father was one of the most powerful humans in the city, it opened many doors and possibilities, but Niaa and Missy were just furs. Even if they were the middle LV4 class with a lot of EV. Then Dr. Rees asked why Kass did not ask his father for help, it sure would not be a problem for him to manage it. Poor Kass did not know what to answer on this. His father had no idea what was happening and then, he did not have much liking for the furs. He even married Kass’ mom only to get to power and he had as good as no relationship with Kass. The boy just answered that his father had just too much to do now at the ERF. Dr. Rees understood it, then she asked another question, but this time towards Aki. She wanted to know how Aki became a creature. After her black teeth and tongue she understood that one or more of her innards were modified, what as everyone knew was forbidden. The doctor seemed very curious. Aki told her that her heart was replaced, but she had no idea by what or even why. Dr. Rees offered her help to find out at least something by putting Aki under a scanner, but right now the only thing Kass and Aki wanted was to visit Missy. Dr. Rees agreed and opened the door to let them inside. And there she was, Missy, just laying on the bed connected to some devices monitoring her vital functions. She was in a deep sleep, just like her older sister Niaa. Missy looked so similar to her with her soft silver fur, only much smaller. Kass held Missy’s paw in his hand and Aki was stroking through her silver hair. Her beautiful feline eyes were closed now and only a picture on a display showed that she was still alive. Kass and Aki felt really bad knowing that Niaa could not come there only because of them. If there would only be a way to help her and the other cubs as well. Dr. Rees reassured them that Missy and the others will be taken to the surgery immediately after there will be enough energy again, but, she added with a sad voice, with each day and even with each passing hour, their chances were lower and lower.

To Aki, Jenny seemed so different from the other humans. She was so caring and kind to the furs. Dr. Rees explained, that years ago Wolf took her out of the Depth. He showed her that there was another way to live, not only in hate and separation, so she wanted to share it with other humans. Sadly, the very most humans did not even want to listen. They only saw themselves and nothing more, so she ended up here by the furs, helping them the best she could.

They took a last look at Missy and all the cubs there with her and slowly left the room, yet in their thoughts still by them. Kass could not believe how much harm a single explosion could do. Not just to objects directly hit by the blast, but even to tails so far away from it, which had nothing to do with it at all, and were too young to even understand what actually happened. A single accident has changed so much in his life, his view on furs, and the view on humans as well. Niaa got hurt, Aki almost died what thanks goodness did not happen, but she must have paid a high price for her life. She became a creature, something this world will never accept!

"Why must’ve everything this happened!" - Kass screamed out, dragging Jenny’s and Aki’s attention on him.

Aki noticed Kass’ painful expression. She knew only too well how he felt right now, so she wanted to bring him on some other thoughts to calm him down a little bit. Wuffy was always doing this with her when she was sad or when she was losing hope, and it really worked. Dragging attention on things Kass liked and was interested in was the best option. And what could be more in Kass’ interest than Aki? Jenny’s offer to find out more about Aki’s new heart should sure keep Kass’ mind busy for at least a while.

Soon, they were passing one corridor after another with a lot of furs and humans there, when they finally reached the right one, leading to another section of the medical station. This part was not so crowded as the others, so they should not be disturbed there. Inside one of the rooms, Jenny led Aki towards a strange looking table, saying to take off her clothes and to lay down on it on her back. She changed some options on the virtual screen and started the scanning procedure. A tiny line of a bright blue light appeared on Aki’s body from her forehead reaching down her body to her lap. Then another line appeared on her body, this time going from left to right and begun to move down slowly creating a three-dimensional picture of Aki's entire body. Dr. Rees was watching the results on the virtual screen with Kass. What the boy saw on the screen did not gave him too much sense, but Jenny was absolutely exited as if watching a thrilling movie. It was amazing! She never thought to see anything like that, and she never thought that it could be even possible! When the procedure was done, Jenny allowed Aki to stand up from the table and put on her clothes. She asked Kass if he had some kind of data device to store the gathered information, because she could not store this in the database as usually. Unfortunately, Kass’ answer was a clear no. He still had his e-book reader somewhere in his own clothes, but they were left in the room, in which he woke up when he and Niaa started to search for Aki. He offered to bring the reader, as he planned to take his clothes anyway. Walking all day long in jog pants just was not really his style. As much as Kass tried to help, Jenny was not willing to let him or Aki go anywhere alone. The boy was a missing patient and the reasons by Aki did not need to be even mentioned! The problems were not the clothes and the e-book reader, Jenny could take them without a problem. The only thing was, what to do with the two young ones. Letting them there alone was not a good idea with all the security around. The only safe place was the underground parking lot. There was minimum security and if they could avoid those annoying flying cameras it should not be a problem, but they needed to hurry. The storm was almost there, and if that will happen, they will not get out of the building for some time.

Jenny opened the door and looked out on the corridor if there was any security around. When there was nothing to be seen, they could walk out of there. After that, they reached the main corridor with the broken elevators, so they needed to take the stairs again. Unfortunately, their walk down the stairs to the parking lot did not escape the attention of one of the security bots. It was the same kind they met in the strange secret lab where Aki was kept, so they knew what those things were capable of. It made Kass nervous, as he remembered well what that thing has done to Niaa. It could happen again to someone of them if they will not do something quickly. He softly yanked at Aki’s tail and looked up. Aki understood it and put a finger on her mouth suggesting Jenny to be silent no matter what. The security bot was only few meters away and was getting close very fast. Then Jenny, Kass and Aki disappeared behind a corner of the staircase, but the security bot was there within few seconds and took the corner as well. The flying camera suddenly held on, because the three persons it was following were gone! The small silly thing was flying there in circles absolutely confused. It has almost burned off its processing unit trying to figure out where they could disappear to. Without a chance to continue, it flew away.

A pair of icy blue eyes were shining from the darkness above. Aki was flying in the darkness under the ceiling holding Jenny in her arms while Kass sat comfortably on Aki’s back. This was a good trick from the two young ones. How often does one look up to the ceiling? However, Jenny did not seem to like it one bit. Now, the security will search the whole medical station after them, and she was right. As they reached the underground parking lot, they could see a lot of security there going into the building. Someone was giving orders to one of the security guards, but Aki and the others could not even see if it was a human or a furry because of the flashing light which signalled that the huge storm has come. The only thing they could tell was, that the person was a young woman after the sound of her voice, but still uncertain if human or furry. They had no time to think about that now, as they did not want to get caught, so they hurried up getting out of there. Well, at least Jenny and Kass were in a hurry. Aki was lost in her own thoughts as she heard the woman’s voice. Kass must have pulled Aki by her arm to bring her back to reality. He then took her paw in his hand and led her to the direction Jenny walked towards.

With the storm above their heads and the extra security there, the only safe place they could go was the cafeteria on first basement, on the other side of the parking lot. Usually, you could go through the inner garden of the medical station, but now, guards were posted by all entrances to prevent anyone from walking out into the storm. Jenny, Kass, and Aki could hear the huge storm even though the thick walls as they were walking through the parking lot. It was making loud noises, howling and growling like a bloodthirsty beast. For Aki’s sensitive ears the storm sounded even scarier, so she held Kass’ arm with both of her paws what made her feel safer. Actually, Kass should be the one fearing! If Aki would be caught by the wild wind, she had still her wings to fly. On the other hand Kass, lifted in the hight by the storm, would just fell down like an apple from a tree, breaking every bone in his body. So he should better no let go of Aki either. Jenny, now walking behind them, just smiled at their conversation. She never hoped to see anything like this. A human and a furry talking with each other and laughing happily on it, walking hand in hand, or better paw in hand, as if nothing could tear them apart. In that moment, it seemed to Jenny as if nothing would be impossible for the two young ones to achieve. No matter what would stands in their way or how far they must walk...as long as they were together. Something, so many dreamed about was happening right now right there; and for Jenny it really seemed as if an ancient fairytale would suddenly became true. She understood why Wolf was caring so much about the two.

In the meantime they reached the cafeteria and as they walked in, they saw a lot of people there hiding from the storm. No one could know what to expect from such a dangerous weather, so everyone was supposed to hide inside, at home, at work or even at school if you were near one. Such places for people to hide from the storm were made around the whole city. The medical station’s underground cafeteria was one of these places too.

It was nothing unusual that our heroes found as many people inside, but there was something strange, fearsome even. By the entrance, where our heroes came in, were standing mostly furs, and on the opposite side by the wall were standing the humans. Each side was chatting among themselves and every now and then they spend a look full of mistrust to the other side. The atmosphere was really thrilling. Fortunately, few small mixed groups were sitting in the middle of the room and chatting among one another, acting like a safety zone. The dividing was not as obvious, because many humans and furs were walking up and down the cafeteria to take something to eat and to drink for them or their family members. Without the needed energy, something as common as fresh food or clean water were becoming rare, even more with every day.

Dr. Rees led them to a free table by the wall. Small windows were on top of the wall through which usually came in the sunlight, brightening the entire room. Yet now, the only light coming in was the one from the many lightning. Kass and Aki sat down behind the table while Jenny told them to not to attract too much attention. This came especially for Aki, because each time she was opening her mouth to speak or just to smile she risked her life. If anyone would notice what she was, it would be the end! The two should only wait for her there until she will come back with Kass’ clothes and the scanning results. When they nodded, Jenny walked away and disappeared in the crowd leaving them alone for a while.

Kass looked at Aki who was just sitting there with her paws in her lap, sunk in her thoughts again. He reached his hand and tapped Aki on her silky black nose. As a response, she twitched with her ears and looked at him surprised. Kass smiled at her and said that she did not need to worry. They were safe in there, because no one would dare to do anything in this mass of people, so she could stay calm. She gave Kass a slight nod even if it was not that, what made her worry. Aki was thinking on the woman they saw, or better heard in the parking lot. The sound of her voice was not leaving Aki’s mind. Not only, that it was the same voice they heard in the secret lab, but Aki had the feeling to know that voice. It was so familiar to her, but why? Have they met earlier? Aki had only few blurry memories on the time before she got to Wuffy, and he never talked a lot about that with her, and then the strange nightmare she always had. What should all that mean? She had the feeling, that all this was linked together somehow, but right now, it was not giving her too much sense. Except the woman and the chasing in the lab, Kass had no idea what was Aki talking about, but he saw that it was making her worried so much. He took her paws in his hands to let her know that he will help her the best he can. By this he noticed that her paws felt cold, even through the tight fur! In next second, Aki quickly took her paws back and looked away. Kass was surprised by her sudden reaction. He wanted to ask her what was wrong, when suddenly a hand caught his shoulder. He immediately turned back to see who it was and he could not believe his golden eyes. It was...Luke!

Kass’ surprise changed into a hostile expression, but Luke seemed to be very happy to see that Kass was all right. He wanted to apologized for what he has done in the park; saying that he never wanted to hurt him, because they are still best friends. Kass put Luke’s hand off his shoulder saying that they are not friends, not anymore and that he was not welcomed by this table. Those words hurt Luke so much. Why was Kass saying things like that to him? Why he changed so much? Like back then in the park, when he stood up against him. Luke wanted to know why!

He smashed a fist in the table asking his friend - "Why…? Is that because of that stupid furry?" - Luke pointed his finger towards Aki, who still sat there in front of them, looking away, feeling responsible for all this.

Kass immediately stood up and grabbed Luke by the collar of his jacket yelling at him. The stupid furry, as he called her, gave almost her own life when she tried to rescue him while his best friend has ran away like a cowardly... Kass would continue, but he was stopped by Aki. He looked around noticing that people were already staring at them, so he let go of Luke and sat back to the table. A male fox came to them to ask if everything was all right.

The red fox worked there as a nurse and he was Dr. Rees’ assistant. Before she left, she asked him to watch over the two until her return. Jenny also told her assistant that Kass was a LV9 what made the fox nervous, because only one bad word from Kass would be enough and losing the job as a nurse will be the fox’s smallest problem. So caution was requested!

He asked again if everything was all right and if they needed something, reaching his paw towards Kass. In that moment, Kass quickly turned his head to the fox giving him a hostile look with his golden eyes. The Fox stepped backwards immediately! The look in the boy’s eyes scared the fox to death! He never saw a human with eyes like those before. Kass did not meant it bad, he was just angry about Luke and the fox just came in the blow. Kass slowly closed his eyes and turned away from the fox saying that they will let him know if there will be anything. The fox then walked away after his duties, as far away from Kass as possible; but Luke still stood there, as if he would be waiting for something.

"So, you are now on their side..." - Luke said loud in a sad tone, looking towards Aki.

He felt as if Aki would have stolen his best friend from him. All the time, while Kass was gone, Luke felt really bad for what happened in the park. He searched the whole medical station after him. He even asked the raccoon to which Kass and Niaa were talking on the other side of this wing, just to find out if Kass was still alive, but it seemed that all this meant nothing to his "friend". Luke could not understand it, so he blamed Aki for everything. If she would not appear in Kass’ life, Luke would still have his best friend! In Luke’s eyes, Aki was an evil and selfish beast, which’s only meaning was to destroy the friendship between him and Kass.

Kass could not listen to this anymore, Aki has never done anything to Luke. On the opposite, Luke was the one who started all this in the park and now he was starting again. With this he definitely crossed the line! Kass jumped away from the table and a second later Luke caught Kass’ fist in his nose. It took just a second for Luke to answer the same way and he hit Kass in the cheek. Aki wanted to stop it, but both, Luke as well as Kass screamed at her to stay out of this. It was something just between the two, and no one had the right to interfere their debate, not even Aki! They both fell on the ground where the debate continued as Kass yelled at Luke to stop blaming Aki for everything bad! Then Luke hit a fist in Kass’ side and rolled over, so now he was on the top. Now he yelled at Kass that it was her fault, because he, Luke, would never want to hurt him and that it was an accident! Now, he wanted to give up their friendship just because of her! Kass pulled him over and found himself on top of Luke again, holding him down by his jacket. Tears could be seen in the eyes of the two young boys. The thought that they were fighting each other was hurting them more than all the hits they have exchanged.

"What happened to our friendship?" - Luke asked softly, almost whispering when he saw Kass’ fist flying closer to him.

Wham! The whole ground shook when Kass’ fist hit the floor with all his strength next to Luke's head. Both of them were laying there silent, looking deep into each other’s eyes.

"Nothing happened to our friendship..." - Kass spoke out still looking into Luke’s eyes - "...you are still my friend, and always will be."

"Then why have you..." - Luke tried to speak, but was interrupted by his friend.

Kass told him that Aki has became his friend as well and he just wanted Luke to accept it. And if Luke was truly his friend, than he will understand. Luke said nothing to this, he only closed his eyes and sighed. They just wanted to stand up when a loud noise could be heard as if something big and heavy would break. Suddenly, the floor around them begun to crack and shake! No one knew what was happening. Luke knew that Kass was stronger than any other boy he knew, but he never thought that he was this strong. If Luke would be hit by Kass’ fist, he would end up in a nice room in the hospital...if he would be lucky! Kass immediately opposed him that he has not done that. The floor started to collapse from a different reason. Wait! Did Luke just said something about a room in a hospital? If the cafeteria was on the first basement, then it would mean that the large damaged room Aki was in was...right under them!

Kass and Aki screamed at the fox nurse that everyone must get out of there immediately! All the people hiding from the storm were just too much weight for the damaged floor to withstand and Kass’ hit gave it the last blow. All the furs were standing by the entrance form the beginning, as if feeling, that something bad will happen. They just quickly, but still calmly, walked out of there into the medical station. However, the humans tried a different approach. They were only running up and down and screaming like a bunch of sheep. Unable to think or to calm down, they just were not able to reach the exit. Aki could not believe what she was seeing and was so surprised that she forgot to close her mouth. She had no idea what to do, she never saw anyone panic like this before. Only Kass and Luke tried to calm the people down, but without a success. The floor could not hold it much longer and collapsed in the middle, creating a large dark pit. Aki was just fast enough to catch Luke by his hand and lift him into the air before the floor vanished in the darkness below, but many others were not so lucky. All the remaining people were still there, but they were trapped on the other side of the room. There was no way for them to get to the exit unless they would learn how to fly.

Meanwhile, Aki sat Luke down on the other side next to Kass, asking if they were all right. Kass was fine, but there was something wrong with Luke, and not only with him, but with all the other humans as well. They all were looking at Aki with their eyes filled with fear, as if she would be some kind of monster. Aki only wanted to help Luke back on his feet and reached her paw towards him, but he gave the creature a hostile look to stay away. She never thought a single look could hurt her so much, but even now she was offering her help. She wanted to carry all the humans, one by one, over the pit to the exit. Kass did not like the idea and wanted to leave with Aki before they would hurt her, or worse. Besides, there were just too many of them, Aki will never be able to carry them over just by herself. Able or not, this was their only choice. Because of the storm, help will not be there anytime soon, yet the rest of floor was already falling apart! As long as Kass did not want to teach them how to fly over by themselves, someone just had to do the flying!

On this Aki lifted up and flew across the gap to the other side. Everyone stepped backwards as her paws touched the ground, leaving a large empty area around her. Aki had no time for that, the rest of the floor could collapse any time, so they must hurry. Small pieces of the floor started to fall down and even now none of the humans moved towards Aki. Suddenly, a voice called after them asking what the fur was wrong with them, that the little furry was just trying to help them! Aki turned around to see who was calling it and saw…Luke!

"He was the one who said that? He even used a furry swearing, ...maybe he was not as bad after all." - thought Aki.

On this, the humans finally started to move. A young woman with long blond hair and glasses stepped to the creature and asked her to carry over her daughter. One by one, the humans were slowly reaching the exit as Aki was flying them over. After a while, it begun to be obvious that she started to be exhausted, but even then she did not want to rest. Actually, she had no time for that, because the floor began to collapse. It was only a matter of minutes until it will break down completely. Fortunately, there were just few more to carry over and after a while there was only one person left. It was the blond woman from the beginning. She wanted to make sure that everyone will reach the other side safely. As Aki flew there to take the woman and her paws touched the ground, the last part of the damaged floor broke apart! It collapsed in the darkness leaving behind only a large cloud of dust. Kass was calling out Aki's name, worried if she was all right he did not turn his look away from the cloud. He was calling, but no one was answering. The silence was unbearable. Suddenly, a white arrow flew out of the dust! It was Aki and the woman was with her. She landed just centimeters form the edge, but she made it and everyone was safe and sound thanks to her.

In the room were now left only Aki, Kass, and Luke who was watching how happy Kass was, seeing that Aki was all right. The little wolf was very exhausted and she barely held on her feet, but she smiled at Kass as well. A moment later Jenny appeared in the doorway and told them that they should better hurry. The storm was leaving and they should do the same, because the security could be there any moment. Kass nodded and started to walk quickly towards Jenny. Luke followed him close behind, but stopped in a halfway to see where that stupid furry stayed, because she was not behind him. Kass has not noticed that Aki was not following them and was still standing by the edge without a move. Luke called at her that they have to go, but Aki just said something silently, almost whispering.

"Don’t worry, I’m...I’m right b..." - she had no more strength to say the words to the end.

She was more exhausted than everyone thought she was. Her beautiful yet tired icy blue eyes closed and the last strength left her body. Now she was slowly falling backwards in the darkness of the abyss below. A hand reached into the darkness after her and caught Aki by her long tail in last moment, but the hand, with the person on its other side was dragged down as well.

Kass was already by the door with Jenny, when he turned around to see where the others were left. To his surprise, there was no one to be seen. A loud yelling caught his attention! It was Luke’s voice, but where was Luke? Kass run back to the edge of the collapsed floor and there he saw it! Luke was holding himself by the edge of the floor with one hand and with the other one he held Aki by her tail while she hung head down in the darkness without a move. Kass immediately grabbed Luke’s hand and tried to pull him up with all his strength. When his friend was high enough, Kass took the tail from Luke so he could climb out and help him with Aki. When everyone was safe up again and sat there catching their breath, Kass asked Luke why he has done that. Luke got immediately upset, saying that he has done nothing! The stupid furry was just falling down...! Luke obviously did not understand what Kass’ question meant. Luke could let her fall down if he would want to, so why has he rescued her? She was still a creature. Luke nodded that Kass was right. It shot through his mind to let her fall, but then he has reminded himself on the moment after Aki rescued the people and returned to Kass and saw them hugging each other and smiling. Luke never saw Kass that happy since...well, since Kass’ mom died. Luke has not done that for Aki, but only for Kass, as he did not want to lose his best friend again. Kass was happy that Luke was there for them. All what happened in the park was now forgiven. They stood up and Kass took Aki in his arms and carried her away while Luke went his own way as well, happy to have his best friend back.

Kass met with Jenny in the underground parking lot where she gave him his clothes and the e-book reader with the data from Aki’s scan. First of all, she wanted to know what have happened in the cafeteria. She left the two alone just for a few minutes and the only thing left from the cafeteria was a big black hole in the floor! She was very curious how the two will explain it to her, but as she saw Aki, she just sighed and then took a look at the little wolf. Kass let out a deep breath of relief as he heard that Aki will be all right. She just needed to recover; but how should they get out of there when Aki lost consciousness? Fortunately, Jenny was there to help again. She offered to drive them home. It was already late in evening and then, Jenny’s duty was over anyway. With a boy from a LV9 family on her backseat, the way out should be very smooth.

There were two main types of cars in this world without oil. An electromobile and a press-air car. The first one used a rechargeable battery to run the motor in the car. The other one used a varied version of the old engine, so in this case it used the air under high pressure to move the engine’s parts, similar to the steam engine. As the very most of the rich people, Jenny used the electromobile too. She was the top vet of the biggest city, so she did not need to worry too much about EV.

When all of them finally sat in the car Jenny was driving the two home. Kass sat silent on the backseat with Aki laying with her head in his lap. Now was the time to ask few questions about today's events. Jenny asked how could the floor in the cafeteria break down just like that. Kass was already bored from repeating the story how he and Niaa found Aki, but as he came to the end, Jenny said something that surprised him.

"So it was true..." - she said while still looking on the road ahead.

She heard rumours that because of the imminent conflict between the humans and the furs, the ERF tried to move their research somewhere where they could continue with their work in relative safety, like in schools or in hospitals, as in the medical station. Their huge underground floors and thick energy infrastructure were perfect for something like that. Kass could not believe this. If this was true, then why would the ERF be interested in Aki? What had she to do with their research? What kind of research? There were too many questions to answer them.

Kass just sat there looking down at Aki and stroking through her soft fur. He felt that her body was cold again, like back then in the cafeteria when he touched her paws. It seemed as if the warmth of her body would be vanishing somewhere. Each time they were in the medical station, something bad happened. Fortunately, Aki just needed to rest for a while to recover, but Niaa was not that lucky before. Maybe the news that Missy, her little sister, will be all right when there will be enough energy for the laser surgery will help Niaa get to back on her feet.

"Yeah, when..." - Kass sighed.

On the way to Wuffy they passed by Jenny’s house which was near the park that Kass and Aki passed everyday on their way to school. It was a modern comfortable place to live with all the current technology like Kass was used to from his home. Suddenly, the car slowed down and stopped on the other side of the road. Kass wondered why they have stopped. He asked Jenny if she wanted to take something from her home.

"No..." - she answered - "...but maybe someone else wanted to."

A light in one of the bedrooms on the upper floor was on and there was no one in the house from her servants. The two males, a husky and a black leopard, who served by her were off to visit their families; so who was inside? To call the security with Aki on the backseat of her car would not be the best idea. So, Jenny stood out and said to Kass to stay in the car with Aki until she will come back. Then Jenny added that she wanted to find her car in one peace, not like the last time when she left them alone in the cafeteria. Poor Kass, how many times he had to repeat that it was not his fault... Whatever, he just sighed and gave Jenny a soft nod. She then closed the door on the car and walked towards her front door. For some reason, it was unlocked, Jenny opened them carefully and vanished in the light inside the house, closing the door silently behind her.

It took just about twenty minutes until the front door opened again and a person walked out towards the car. For Kass, who was worrying about Jenny all the time, it seemed to be hours. Wait! The person who walked out of the house and was now walking towards them had a tail, so there was no way that this could be Jenny! The street light, illuminating the person from the chest down, revealed more than the boy wanted to see. Something red was dripping from the person’s clothes! This was bad...very bad!

"Where is Jenny? What happened?" - these were Kass’ thoughts right in that moment.

The boy took a quick look at Aki to be ready to run away with her, then he looked back towards Jenny’s house again, but the person was gone! Kass was scared. He had no idea where the person disappeared to! It was too dark outside, not even the sliver moonshine could pass through the thick black storm clouds to bring at least a bit light in this fearful situation. Then, suddenly, the backdoor of the car on Aki’s side opened and a paw with long sharp claws was reaching after the little sleeping wolf. In the dim light inside the car, Kass could just see the clothing soaked with the dense red liquid what scared him even more! The paw grabbed at Aki’s neck fur and started to pull the little wolf out of the car.

"Don’t hurt her...please, stop! No!" - Kass screamed out, and with all his strength he punched the unknown furry in the nose from the fear!

Then, a lightning brightened the area and brought a bit light in the situation. Kass’ eyes stayed wide open as he saw the person in the light. It was no one else, than Wuffy, all by himself. He now stood outside in front of Kass holding Aki in his paws.

"Careful with those fists young warrior, you can hurt someone." - came from the wolf with a smile on his mouth.

Kass continued looking at the wolf having no idea what to say. What was he doing here, anyway? Then, with Aki in his arms, Wuffy started to walk back into the house suggesting Kass to follow him. When they walked in and the door behind them closed tight, Wuffy put Aki down on the large sofa in the living room and sat down next to her. Kass sat down on the other side of the sofa by Aki’s feet and looked around the large room. He asked Wuffy why has he come here; and where was Niaa? Kass feared that something has happened to her, but Wuffy calmed him down that Niaa was upstairs in bed and Jenny was there with her right now, taking care of the wound. Still, there was a big red splash of blood on Wuffy’s clothes! The white wolf smiled at this and said that it was not blood, but it was just ketchup. When he brought Niaa there, he was hungry, so he took a look inside Jenny’s kitchen and put together some quick meal. And when he was taking out the bottle of ketchup, he heard someone coming. After the scent Wuffy knew that it was Jenny, so he was not alarmed, but in the moment as he turned around to greet her, with the bottle still in his paw, Jenny bashed him with something, thinking he was a thief. She yelled at him that it was not enough for him to rob out her house he must rob out her fridge too! Only then Jenny realized whom she bashed over the head. And by this, the whole content of the bottle splashed all over his clothes. Fortunately, some of the ketchup landed on the plate as well, so Wuffy has not gone out on empty paws...

Kass laughed at this loud. At first Jenny thought that Wuffy was a thief and hit him and then Kass did the same in the car. Poor wolf; they hit him twice for no reason but their fear. However, Kass still has not learned why Wuffy has come here. On this Jenny walked down the stairs and said that Niaa‘s wound was well treated, but she had no idea why was not she wakeing up. Even Jenny with all her skills as a vet could not do much for Niaa, so the only thing left was to wait and hope.

The atmosphere was poor... Niaa was unconscious, Aki was recovering, Kass’ mood was lower than down and Jenny had no idea what was going on. She was not the only one! Since Aki awoke in the ERF lab and escaped, the people from the ERF seemed to be after her, but what was the reason? Then Jenny remembered what she gave to Kass. There were his clothes and...Aki’s results! Kass immediately jumped on his legs putting out the e-book reader from the large side-pocket of his trousers. Jenny took it and connected it to the large virtual screen that she had in her study room. And there it was; the reason for all this chaos. A square-shaped device with a size of Wuffy's fist was shining in Aki’s chest with such a bright light that it could be seen even on the scan! After the data, a massive amount of energy was coming out of the device. So this was what replaced her heart and kept Aki alive all the time! No wonder the ERF was after her, whoever would get this device in hands could easily take control over the city with its unbelievable energy!

What will our heroes do now? What will do Aki if she will find out, because a pair of icy blue eyes full of fear and pain slowly awakened in Jenny’s living room! The next adventure can end very bad…
