Hey everyone! I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything, but life and computer issues got in the way. Once I get a new laptop some time this week and finish up with a well needed vacation, I should be able to post more regularly. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy

8 AM
Travis woke up to an empty bed and the sound of the shower running. He sat up and yawned, stretching his limbs and popping his tired joints in preparation for the day. After his nightmare he slept well, Nathan’s idea worked wonders. The German Shepherd sat up, put on a pair of cleanish underwear, and walked out into the living room. Nathan was brewing coffee, while Martin lay on the couch reading a local Fur newspaper.
“Good morning,” Travis looked around, “Who’s in the shower?”
As Nathan and Martin glanced up to offer an answer, the shower turned off and a naked blue and black feathered Jay walked out of the bathroom, towelling off with one of the German Shepherd’s beach towels. The Rottweiler chuckled, folded the paper, and sat up on the couch.
“This is Jorge,” Martin began, “He, uh, came home with me last night.”
The Jay smiled and dropped the towel as he walked forward with an outstretched hand.
“Thank you for letting me into your home,” Jorge began, his voice heavily accented, “It is a very nice place.”
Travis shook the Bird’s hand but didn’t return the smile.
“He’s from Colombia, he just immigrated here two months ago,” Martin chuckled, “Can you believe how good his English is?”
The Rottweiler pat the couch cushion beside him and gestured for the Bird to sit down. Jorge did as he was told, just as Nathan brought out two steaming cups of hot coffee. The Cattle Dog almost leaned in to kiss his boyfriend, but stopped, respecting the German Shepherd’s hang ups about public displays of affection.
“You want cream or sugar with your coffee, hon?” Nathan asked, “Good morning to you as well by the way.”
Nathan’s question took the older male’s mind off of the tongue lashing he wanted to give the entire room about having guests over. He let out a sigh and looked up at his boyfriend. He could tell Nathan wanted the kiss, so, quickly, he flitted in and gave the younger Dog a peck on the cheek. The Cattle Dog smiled and pat the German Shepherd on the shoulder, just so Travis would know the peck was appreciated.
“I’ll take it black Nathan,” Travis shot the dog a smile, “Thank you very much.”
The Cattle Dog walked into the kitchen and poured two more cups of coffee. Jorge cleared his throat from the couch, making Travis turn to look at him.
“May I ask where you work?” Jorge asked, “Now that I’m here, I like to see what other people do. I might get better ideas.”
Travis let out a sigh.
“I’m a cop,” Travis replied, “Although I don’t think I will be for long.”
Jorge’s eyes went wide and Nathan nearly spilled the German Shepherd’s cup of coffee.
“A cop?” Jorge froze, “Martin, you didn’t tell me that.”
“It’s fine,” The Rottweiler gave the Jay’s hand a squeeze, “Travis is alright.”
Martin pulled the Bird into a hug and looked up at Travis.
“He left Colombia because the police were harassing his family,” Martin began, “Understandably, he’s still a little wary.”
Nathan handed the German Shepherd his coffee, who immediately took a hearty swig of the piping hot liquid. Travis swallowed and let out a chuckle.
“I won’t give you any trouble Jorge,” Travis replied, “Just keep your nose, or well, beak, down. Cops here don’t like gay people that much.”
Travis shrugged.
“Which is well, why I’m going to transfer somewhere else,” The Dog continued, “I’ll go where that sort of thing isn’t a problem and maybe even get a chance to do some writing. I think I’d like that.”
Jorge beamed.
“I love to read!” Jorge began, “What will you write? Novelas? Movies? Periódicos?”
Travis chuckled. The Jay was pretty enjoyable to have around. He was happy he didn’t snap and demand him and Martin to leave.
“I don’t know yet,” The German Shepherd replied, “I’ll have to see.”
Nathan let out a quiet whine.
“Travis?” Nathan asked, “Weren’t you going to talk to me about this.”
He hung his head.
“I’m sorry,” Nathan continued, “I know I don’t really have the right to butt my nose in your business yet.”
“I was going to tell you as soon as we had the place to ourselves,” Travis began, “Mainly because I have some things to ask of you.”
Martin stood up from the couch and let out a happy bark.
“You won’t have to wait much longer,” Martin replied, “I got a place to stay, at least for a couple of days. The guy is going to pick me up in front of the Plaza in 15 minutes or so.”
The Rottweiler looked back at Jorge.
“Want to walk me there?” Martin asked, “I can give you money for the bus.”
“Sure,” Jorge smiled and got off of the couch, “I can do that, just let me thank our host.”
He sprung forward and embraced the German Shepherd.
“Thank you for opening your home to us,” Jorge began, “Will you be going to the vigil tonight?”
Travis sighed, thought for a moment, and looked down.
“I don’t know yet,” Travis replied, “I’ll think about it.”
Jorge nodded and pulled away from the hug.
“Okay,” Jorge glanced and smiled at Nathan, “Maybe we will see you there.”
“Maybe,” Nathan returned the smile, “Have a good day Jorge. You too Martin.”
The Rottweiler and the Jay walked out of the German Shepherd’s apartment together. Nathan and Travis paused for a few moments and shared an uncomfortable silence. Travis opened his mouth to talk, but was cut off by Nathan.
“Are you really going to quit?” Nathan asked, “Really?”
Travis sighed and nodded.
“I can’t do this job in this city anymore,” Travis began, “I chose to be a cop, but I didn’t choose to be gay.”
The German Shepherd walked into the kitchen and set his half-full cup of coffee on the kitchen counter.
“After what’s been happening,” Travis continued, “I’m scared of what the future holds. I did this to be a hero, to be someone Furs would look up to, but I think I’m the opposite. I think I’m the bad guy now. I’m not enforcing the law, I’m enforcing something else, something wrong.”
“What next then?” Nathan asked, “What’s going to happen?”
Travis thought for a moment. The best thing to do would be to leave New York, or even the entire country. Nathan could benefit from something similar, but it was way too early in the relationship to even think about posing that question. This relationship may not have come about in a normal way, but that level of commitment would definitely raise some red flags for the Cattle Dog.
“I think I’m leaving the state,” Travis replied, “I don’t know where I’ll go, I just know that staying here is bad for me.”
Nathan let out a whine and looked down at the floor.
“It’s probably bad for you to stay too,” The German Shepherd said softly, “You should think about leaving too.”
Nathan walked over to the counter and sat down on one of the stools. The German Shepherd whined and stood behind his boyfriend, his paw moving to the younger male’s shoulder.
“I can’t leave,” The Australian Cattle Dog whimpered, “What about the kids? What if they need my help?”
“Will they even accept your help if you give it?” Travis asked, “I thought Amanda said she’d call the cops if you came around again?”
The younger Dog snarled and shot out of the stool, whirling about and glaring at the German Shepherd. Travis took a step back.
“I just can’t abandon them,” Nathan snapped, “That makes me no better than my fucking father.”
The Cattle Dog started to pace.
“So what,” He continued, “I have to abandon them? Make them go to through the fucking foster care system. You know what happens to families like mine. They get split up, and if they want to stay together they spend the rest of their childhoods in an institution. My childhood was fucked up, but at least I had part of one.”
“Nathan,” Travis said softly, “No Fur is going to split them up.”
“What about humans Travis?” Nathan replied, “Everyone knows that Furs hardly ever adopt.”
“Never say never,” The German Shepherd began, “I’ve seen it happen. Lots of Furs in upper class neighborhoods will adopt from lower income neighborhoods.”
Nathan growled.
“Why are you pushing this so much?” Nathan asked, “Do you want me to run away with you or something?”
Travis’s eyes went wide. He didn’t know what to say to that. A large part of him wanted to say yes, he wanted nothing more than to have this Cattle Dog be his for the rest of his life. The other part nagged on his conscience. He had no right asking Nathan for anything, but he was going to do it anyway.
“Yes,” The German Shepherd began, “I want you to come with me. If you were found out, I couldn’t live with myself.”
Travis looked down.
“I mean, what else are you going to do, be a rent boy?” Travis asked, “That’s not what you want is it?”
“I’ve always got a choice,” Nathan said firmly, “What happens if we break up? Then I’m stuck in a strange new place alone.”
“Nathan,” Travis replied, “If that happened you know I’d help you. If you come with me, I promise you’ll be taken care of, one way or another.”
The Cattle Dog sighed.
“Can I sleep on it?” Nathan asked, “I trust you, and I want to be with you, but it is a really big commitment. I’ve never even left the city before.”
“Well you’ll be with me,” Travis walked forward and embraced his boyfriend, “Trust me. If you come with me you won’t have to worry about a thing.”
“Promise?” The Cattle Dog replied, “Is it really going to be better?”
Travis chuckled.
“It’ll be hard to tell until we get there,” Travis began, “I think wherever we wind up will be just fine.”
He nuzzled Nathan’s cheek.
“Because I’ll be there with you,” Travis smiled, “So don’t worry.”
The German Shepherd pat the Cattle Dog on the back.
“Want to go out to eat?” The soon to be ex-cop smiled, “Let’s go get a sandwich and take our mind off of this.”
Nathan shook his head.
“I was just going to cook breakfast here,” Nathan replied, “Martin picked up quite a bit of food.”
“That’s fine,” Travis chuckled, “You’d have to be crazy to say no to a home cooked breakfast. What are you going to make?”
The Australian Cattle Dog shrugged.
“Eggs and bacon for sure,” Nathan began, “Martin picked up some english muffins and some jam, so maybe I’ll fix those up too.”
Travis leaned in with a murr and kissed his boyfriend softly on the lips.
“That sounds lovely,” Travis replied, “I’m going to hop in the shower. Do you want my help with anything.”
“No hon,” Nathan chuckled quietly, “I think I can handle it. Enjoy your shower.”
Travis gave his boyfriend another kiss and walked into the bathroom. Nathan let out a quiet giggle as the German Shepherd broke the kiss, making it very hard for the older Dog to keep walking. With a groan and a yawn Travis stripped and stepped into the shower. He let it run cold in an attempt to further shake him from his state of drowsiness and savored the slow transition from cold, to warm, to hot.
It had been a long time since the German Shepherd was able to thoroughly enjoy a shower. When the wounds on his face finally healed enough to allow him to have one, he was so distraught from the events of raid that he couldn’t partake in the more pleasurable aspects of the shower. Speaking of pleasurable aspects, the Dog had gone for far too long without pleasure. A fact that kissing Nathan had only exacerbated.
He reached down to rub over his already swollen sheath, his paws slowly but surely teasing his cock to its full hardness. A quiet whine escaped his lips as the German Shepherd ran his paw down the underside of his cock. There was a quiet knock on the door, making Travis jump and quickly pull his paw away.
“Hey Travis,” Nathan said with a faint hint of worry in his voice, “You almost done in there?”
“Yeah,” Travis cleared his throat, “What is it Nathan?”
“You uh,” Nathan let out a quiet whine, “You have some visitors. From the force.”
Travis immediately shut off the shower and grabbed his towel. Alarm bells started ringing in his head. What in the hell were they doing here? He quickly toweled off, letting his fur stay ruffled as he pulled on his clothes. The German Shepherd rounded the corner just as Nathan gave August and James their cups of steaming coffee. Nathan looked into Travis’s eyes, barely burying another desperate whine. The Cattle Dog was scared.
“Holy shit,” August began as he noticed the German Shepherd, “That little Cattle Dog really did a number on you.”
Travis snapped out of his worried state and let out a scoff. This would have to be a damn good act.
“Yeah he did,” The German Shepherd chuckled, “Broke four bones. My face still fucking hurts.”
“I’m sure it does,” August chuckled, “Your roommate already introduced himself by the way. How’d you two meet?”
Travis shrugged.
“Oh you know,” Travis replied, “How people meet people. He needed a place to stay and I needed help with rent money. Things really worked out.”
August raised an eyebrow.
“What do you have to say about that Nathan?” The Fox chuckled, “There’s gotta be more than that.”
Nathan walked back into the kitchen and kept cooking, barely able to keep himself from trembling.
“He just helped me one day,” Nathan chuckled, “I got locked out of my car in a bad part of town and he helped me out. Took me someplace safe.”
Nathan relaxed a little. He was practically telling the truth now.
“I met up with him again,” Nathan continued, “Found out he needed a roommate and well, volunteered for the job.”
James looked up at Travis and smiled. He could tell August was making the other Dog uncomfortable. Travis returned the smile. The human had come a long way in reading people, or now knew better than to hide that talent from the people he was supposed to protect and serve.
“So Travis,” The Human began, “When are you going back to work?”
Travis sighed.
“I’m actually thinking of transferring,” Travis replied, “I well, I’m not a fan of this big city life. I want to go some place where things like this don’t happen.”
James and August gasped.
“But you can’t leave Travis,” August began, “We need cops like you.”
“I just need a change,” Travis looked over at Nathan, “I think I’m gonna make my way down to the station today actually and let the chief know.”
Nathan looked down at the eggs he was cooking and smiled to himself as he plated them up.
“Officers?” Nathan began, “Would you like me to make you some food?”
James looked at August who shook his head.
“We already ate,” August replied sternly, “I think I lost my appetite.”
The Fox got out of his chair and walked up to the German Shepherd. The fur on his neck bristled, making James tense up. A low growl escaped the smaller male’s lips as he squared up to the Dog.
“I can’t believe you’re running,” August growled, “What? Killing a couple of faggots makes you lose your nerve.”
“Get out of my face August,” The German Shepherd replied with a frown, “You’re in my house, and I wouldn’t be violating a damn thing if I busted your lip right here.”
“Big words Travis,” The Fox let out a louder growl, “I’d do the same to you if it wouldn’t knock your pussy jaw off.”
The Fox pulled away and took his jacket off of the chair he was sitting on. He motioned for James to move and opened up the front door. August paused and turned back to face the German Shepherd.
“Do yourself and the department a favor,” August began, “Just run. Don’t let them see what a loser you are.”
August huffed and slammed the door behind him. James let out a sigh and picked up his hat as he followed the Fox out.
“Look Travis, don’t let him get to you,” James began, “We want you to be happy. All of us do. You do what you need to do.”
James tipped his hat to Nathan.
“It was a pleasure meeting you,” James continued, “Have a nice day.”
Travis breathed out a sigh of relief once James’s retreating footsteps came out of earshot. In the kitchen, Nathan finally let out a whimper and slumped over the counter.
“I hope you can eat two plates of food,” Nathan let out a quiet groan, “I’ve lost my appetite.”
Travis let out a nervous chuckle and walked into the kitchen. He took a deep breath and put his paws on the Cattle Dog’s shoulder. The younger male whimpered and pressed back into his boyfriend’s chest.
“You should eat,” Travis rubbed over Nathan’s shoulders, “It’ll settle you down.”
Nathan turned and gave Travis a kiss.
“There’s one thing that can settle me down,” Nathan rubbed over Travis’s chest, “We eat breakfast, then you go down to the station and tell the chief you’re leaving. Hell, ask him to get you someplace far from here, hell, it could be Alaska for all I care.”
“Okay,” Travis chuckled, “Turn the stove off and meet me at the table.”
Nathan let out a yelp of surprise and ran over to the stove. In all the excitement, he had left it on. Travis chuckled and walked to the table, hopefully this meeting with the Chief would be okay.

Later that afternoon
Travis walked into the chief’s office and took a deep breath to get his fur to unfluff. He was treated like a celebrity when he came back, and everyone wanted to catch up with the German Shepherd. The chief looked over at Travis once the German Shepherd closed the door behind him and frowned.
“August told me about what you said today,” The man began, “Is all of that true?”
“Yes,” Travis replied as he sat down in front of the human’s desk, “I want you to help me find one.”
The Chief groaned and pulled a magazine out of his desk. He thumbed through it, tutting to himself as he read through it. With a sigh, the German Shepherd watched the display of barely-contained rage. He was used to it by now, the Chief usually did this when things didn’t go his way. After a few tense moments, Chief Hickling slammed his finger down into one of the advertisements and slid the magazine over there.
“There,” Chief Hickling crossed his arms and leaned back in the chair, “Fuckbucket, New Mexico. Maybe you’d like Podunk, Wyoming, or even fucking better, Shitstain, Alaska.”
The human picked up the magazine and threw it across the room.
“What the fuck do you mean you want to quit at this department?” The human bellowed, “I stuck out my neck for you to get you hired on. I stuck my neck out again to get you a promotion. Do you just want to shit on all I’ve done for you?”
Travis stayed calm and didn’t let his facial expression betray the nasty thoughts that whirled through his mind. He wanted to jump up and smack that stupid, smug, fucking grin off of Hickling’s face, let him know that the entire department knew that everything he did was behind the thin shell of authority.
“This is my two weeks notice,” Travis began, “And I know the posting I’d like. I think it’s the one in Pissant, California. Anything in that area would be good. Just keep me in the loop.”
The Chief took a deep breath and nodded. Travis’s calm demeanor must have defused the older male.
“You have two weeks of vacation time,” The human replied, “Use that, get better, and report to your new position at the end of it. These ads are always a little delayed, but I’ll get you something. I owe you that much.”
“Thank you Chief,” The German Shepherd got out of his chair and extended a paw, “I really appreciate this.”
“Of course,” Chief Hickling sighed as he shook the Dog’s paw, “I guess I gotta find another young pup with delusions of grandeur to take your place.”
Travis chuckled and shook his head.
“Delusions of grandeur?” Travis replied, “You’ve got the wrong Dog. They’re not delusions sir, but actual grandeur.”
“God damnit Travis,” Chief Hickling laughed, “I’m gonna miss you. You know that right.”
“I know Chief,” Travis began, “I’m gonna miss you guys too. I just can’t do this anymore. I want to help, but honestly, shooting people who just want to be left alone doesn’t seem the best way to do it.”
“That’s just a matter of opinion,” The Chief replied sharply, “Just turn in your badge to me, I’ll make sure your paycheck gets to you before you leave.”
Travis pulled his badge out of his jacket and laid it on the older human’s desk. Chief Hickling smiled and nodded his head at the German Shepherd. The Dog returned the nod and left the office, walking briskly through the office. As Travis walked down the front steps of the precinct someone cleared their throat.
“I thought I told you not to come down here,” August leaned against the handrail, “What gives?”
“Bite me August,” Travis replied, “Just stay out of my fur until I leave. You won’t have to worry about anything after that. Hell, you may even be the Chief’s new favorite.”
August straightened up and chuckled.
“I don’t think I will,” August smirked, “I noticed your little love nest. One of your two bedrooms was totally empty.”
Travis frowned and straightened up.
“I’m definitely going to look into that before you leave,” August shook his head, “I thought better of you.”
The German Shepherd leaned in and whispered.
“I hope you do,” Travis smirked, “I hope you do come for us. I’ll be waiting August.”
Travis punched the Fox in the shoulder.
“Let’s see how nice I play without a badge,” The Dog smiled, “Good luck punk.”
August gasped as the German Shepherd brushed past him. Travis knew better than to worry. The Fox had a bit of a reputation as one who didn’t cross his t’s and dot his i’s. This sloppy work would keep the Dog more than safe until he moved on to his new position. Travis chuckled as he walked down the street to the subway station.
He had nothing to worry about.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Travis walked into his apartment with a smile on his face. The smile was dashed when he saw Nathan laying on the couch with his head in his paws. The German Shepherd let out a quiet whine as he thought of all the things that could have gone wrong.
“Nathan?” He said quietly, “Everything okay?”
“Well,” The Cattle Dog took a deep breath, “Lionel called. He said that the guys at the bar want to have another protest. They’re doing it all right this time, but they want us involved. Well, more involved.”
Travis sighed.
“I need to keep quiet until we leave,” Travis began, “Maybe we can make them signs or something. We can only be in the background if we get involved.”
“They want more than that,” Nathan replied quietly, “They want you to lead it.”
Travis’s eyes went wide. At this point he felt obligated to lead. He fell short for his community in the fiasco that was the last raid. On the other paw, he knew that taking a visible position in the upcoming protest would set August off and keep him from ever working as a cop again. Hell he’d probably go to jail and the entire charade he had been keeping up would crash around him.
“Look,” Travis replied, "I think we need to talk to Lionel about this, in person.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Nathan whined, “If we have to be cautious. Is meeting with Lionel a good idea?”
“It can’t hurt,” The German Shepherd began, “I think they know better than to let just anyone into the bar after what happened.”
“What if they see you?” Nathan asked, “God, what if they have the house bugged or something?”
Travis walked up to his boyfriend and embraced him, planting some kisses on the top of his head. The Cattle Dog let out a soft whine and reciprocated the embrace. The pair stayed silent for a brief moment, savoring the sounds of the other’s breathing and heartbeat.
“I don’t want you to get hurt again,” The Cattle Dog let out a whimper, “I-I still have nightmares about the raid. About watching you, you.”
Nathan moved a shaking paw to the German Shepherd’s face. Travis nuzzled into his mate’s paw and gave it a few kisses, planting one on each of the Cattle Dog’s pads.
“I understand and I’m sorry,” Travis began, “I can handle this.”
Travis moved the younger Dog’s paw back to his side.
“They can’t bug us without a warrant, which they don’t have,” Travis continued, “And I know how to recognize an undercover cop. Believe me. I’m safe and you’re safe.”
Nathan sighed and nuzzled his boyfriend’s face.
“Wanna lay down and cuddle?” Nathan asked, “We haven’t got the chance to be close since you got back.”
Travis nodded.
“We can keep Lionel waiting,” Travis rubbed over his mate’s side, “How long do we have?”
“I don’t know,” The Cattle Dog sighed, “Let’s just make the most of it, yeah? I’ll meet you in the bedroom.”
The younger Dog kissed Travis’s cheek and walked into the bedroom, closing the door partially behind him. The German Shepherd hung up his jacket and followed his boyfriend, slowly shedding his layers until he was only wearing a pair of white underwear. He entered the room, smirking as he saw his mate pulling down his pants with his back to the door. Travis closed the distance and wrapped his strong arms around his mate’s waist.
“Hey you,” Travis murred into the Cattle Dog’s ear, “Any chance I could get you to put those clothes back on so I can watch you take them off.”
Nathan chuckled and swayed in his mate’s arm, letting off a little giggle as the German Shepherd’s teeth found the soft skin of his neck.
“Putting my clothes back on is the last thing I wanna do with you in the room,” Nathan murred, “Why don’t you get on the bed and take those cute little underpants off.”
Travis smirked and did as he was told, humoring the Cattle Dog’s request.
“Oh so you’re in charge now?” Travis asked as he sat down and pulled the underwear down to his ankles, “How long is that going to last?”
Nathan scoffed and shed his underwear before jumping into bed. The German Shepherd rolled and held him close, kissing the top of his head and softly rubbing over the younger male’s chest. Nathan let out a quiet murr and breathed a sigh of relief.
“So where are we moving?” Nathan asked, “It’s gonna be nice. I’ve never been out of the city before.”
Travis sat up and shrugged.
“I don’t know yet,” The German Shepherd replied, “West coast probably. I’m not going to know for a couple of days.”
Nathan moved lower, resting his head on the German Shepherd’s chest.
“Doesn’t that just freak you out though?” Nathan asked, “God, not knowing where I’m going to be in a month does it for me.”
“Don’t worry about it Nathan,” Travis began, “It’s going to be easier than here. I can tell you that much.”
The German Shepherd smirked and teased the fur on the Cattle Dog’s head.
“Although,” Travis chuckled, “It’s gonna be difficult to explain the fur dye.”
Nathan smiled and closed his eyes.
“I don’t care,” Nathan replied, “I’ll be there with you. We can make the whole thing work out.”
“Yeah,” Travis smiled and closed his eyes as well, “I think it will.”
