Chapter 8.

By: Wolfie Steel.

I drive up to the gates of the house and in the rearview mirror, I watch as Jeff’s eyes pop out of his head, I push the button on the remote to open the gates and slowly drive into the main courtyard. Standing at the front door is Ryan, back from concluding his business with the now ex Ricky “The Butcher” Finch; Jeff speaks in a quiet tone.

“Ma.....I mean, Sonny there is a human standing in front of the door, he looks like trouble, stay in the car and I will maul him”

I look at Jeff with a smile on my muzzle and I am about to make my reply but Commander Jones beats me to it.

“This I gotta see, I know Wolves are fearsome predators, but there aren't many folks that would go up against Ryan and live to tell the tale”

Jeff looks at me and I continue where Commander Jones leaves off.

“Relax Jeff, Ryan works for us”

Jeff lets out a low growl but then calms a little as he accepts what I have said. We all get out of the car and head up to the doors of the house, once at the doors I make the introductions.

“Ryan Lewis, I would like you to meet Jeffery Alexander Sloane, my brother. Jeff, meet Ryan, the guy who managed to penetrate our high tech security system with the greatest of ease”

The five of us enter the house and head straight for the living room; I head to the kitchen to get drinks for the five of us, with Ryan following close behind. Once in the kitchen Ryan comes close to me and speaks in quiet tones.

“Mr. Lane, I have to report to you that Mr. Finch will no longer be a bother to either you or your mate or to me for that matter, I have shall we say permanently closed his account, in actual fact there is a very lucrative business opportunity for you should you wish to take it, Finch’s bar is in need of a new owner or owners, and let’s face it, Mason’s money won’t last all that long, so you will need to supplement it somehow and a thriving bar seems like the ideal opportunity”

I had never once thought of becoming a business owner but what Ryan said did have quite a lot of truth in it, sooner or later the money in our account would dry up so it made sense to buy a business that was doing well, at least then we would have cash flow.

Both Ryan and I head back to the living room with the drinks, we all sit on the leather couches and I make my announcement.

“Since I have met Mason, I have felt like I am contributing nothing to the relationship, Ryan has told me that there is a bar in my old hometown that needs a new owner, it is my intention to become that new owner. If all goes well I will buy the bar and change the name from Finch’s Place to The Fast Lane”

We all held our glasses up in a toast.

“Too, The Fast Lane”

After the drinks and something to eat we all made our way to our beds with Jeff now taking up residence in one of the many guest rooms.

The following morning me, Mason, Jeff, and Ryan head out to Finch’s Place, there is a sign on the door ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, Finch’s Place will be closed until further notice’. I look through the window to the inside of the bar and notice that someone is sat at a table doing paperwork, I now seize my chance and knock on the door, after a few seconds the door opens to reveal a tall Dalmatian dressed in a pair of tan coloured cowboy boots, light blue jeans, white button down shirt and a black leather sleeveless waistcoat.

“Can’t you read, the damn sign says closed until further notice”

The Dalmatian then looks at Ryan.

“And you’re the reason that we are closed, now what do you want? Or have you just come to gloat?”

I make my reply.

“My name is Sonny Lane, this is my mate Mason Lane and my brother Jeff Sloane, I see you already are acquainted with Ryan Lewis, now to business and the reason why we are here, I wish to buy the bar and get it reopened and I want to do it as soon as possible”

As soon as I mentioned buying the bar, the Dalmatian let the four of us enter.

“My name is Dillon Beecham and I am or at least I was the head bartender here, though I’m guessing that if you’re buying the place, you will want your own team working here?”

I look at the Dalmatian standing before me; if this guy was the head bartender in a thriving bar then he obviously had something about him, the one thing he did have going for him was his looks, he is drop dead gorgeous, but of course I’m a happily mated Wolf, and though I have played the field whilst being with Mason, I now felt that I should give my loyalty to Mason. I sit the Dalmatian down in a seat.

“Mr Beecham, Dillon, it is true that I want to bring some new help in, but you have obviously worked here for quite a while and you know how to keep things working, so I’m prepared to keep you on as the head bartender as long as your prepared to work for me, in fact, to sweeten the deal how about a promotion, become my bar manager it will mean a very tasty raise in your paycheck, so what do you say? Can I count on your continued hard work?”

I hold out my paw to shake the paw of the Dalmatian to hopefully seal the deal, Dillon thinks about his options and then looks at Ryan he then takes my paw into his own and shakes it.

“Welcome to The Fast Lane Mr. Beecham, may you have many more wonderful years working for me; incidentally, you will probably want to know who I will be bringing in to help you? Your new team members will be my brother Jeff as the new head bartender, and our current head of security Steve will become the doorman. I’m gonna take this place to new heights”

We leave Dillon to finish the paperwork that he was working on and head into town and to the bank to get the money needed to buy the bar and make all the changes.

In a matter of two months I have gone from being the runt of a litter of Wolves to being a wealthy bar owner and all thanks to the act of being a good Samaritan, which reinforces my belief, I may be a gay wolf that up until two months ago nobody would have even cared about, but when I saved Mason’s life it was that which turned my life around.
