Cyn Part 1
#1 of Cyn
Chapter 1
Cyn sat at the edge of a clear lake, staring at her reflection. Desperation had forced her to rely on gazing at her reflection to satisfy her needs. No others of her kind existed. All of them were gone. At least, that's what she had come to believe. Honestly, she'd never even seen a dead one of her kind; creatures that resembled European-style dragons, but with smooth, blue, dolphin-like skin, and feathery white manes. Though her kind lacked wings, she actually could fly using magic, though that, like many things, was a death sentence. She simply couldn't do anything that could make her aware to the public. To the humans. She hated them so much. They attacked her at first site, and constantly were searching for her. In just a week, she had been forced to find a new den three times. She couldn't fight them; she was too gentle in nature to harm anything, even if she did loathe it.
"Damn those stupid bandits." A voice said from not-so far off, catching her attention. Quietly sneaking through the tall grass and cattails, Cyn headed closer to the voice. Sure enough, it was another human. A young man, maybe seventeen years old, with shaggy dark hair, and sun-tanned skin, he was wearing tattered, blood-stained rags, and looked like he had been hurt pretty badly. Cyn watched as he was washing the blood off his arm, slightly fascinated. Usually, humans were after her. This time, however, the human just seemed to be there by chance. "Well, at least nobody seems to be around here. Maybe I can find something to treat my wounds with." He said, standing up. As he rose, Cyn quickly stepped back, trying to avoid site. Even though he wasn't looking for her, he could still tell people of her whereabouts if he did see her.
"I need to get him out of here somehow." She muttered to herself, watching him.
"Let's see, I'm sure that some aloe and some drake grass would help." He murmured, looking around at the surrounding shrubs.
"Aloe and drake grass? Of course! There is some near my den!" She excitedly said to herself, running off. "If I just get them, and place them in a spot he'll find them, he'll leave!" Quickly, she ran, and grabbed some leaves of aloe, and a handful of drake grass, and hurriedly ran back to him. Placing them in a little clearing, she hid in the grass, and watched as he finally stumbled upon their location.
"Now that is sort of strange." The man said, picking them up. "It's like somebody is helping me." As he sat and thought of what happened, he finally looked around, and yelled, "Thank you, whoever you are!" Hearing this actually made Cyn feel slightly cheerful. A human thanked actually thanked her. Though she hated humans, he didn't seem half bad.
"There, that should do it!" He said, tightening a torn-off shred of his clothes around is arm. He was unaware that Cyn spied on him from only mere feet away. As he stood up and stretched his arms, he finally decided to look for something to eat. Gathering fruits, herbs, and other random plants from the surrounding area, he sat them all in a pile near the clearing he had been sitting in. Next, he began gathering firewood. As Cyn watched him, she sighed.
"Looks like this human isn't gonna leave." She said to herself, watching as he chipped together two pieced of flint. Personally, she didn't really care if he stayed or not. It was that he may attract other humans, or decide to snoop around her den. Finally, after a while, he had a fire set up, with a large metal bowl set in it. The food he had gathered was mixed in the pot, which he seemed to have gotten from somewhere nearby.
"Hey, if your still there, friend, then could you just here me out for a second?" the man called out, looking around. Cyn sat, listening. "I know you probably won't show yourself to me, so instead, I have decided that I would repay you with a meal. Once I have taken my helping from this soup I am boiling, I will leave the rest for you. It is the least I can do to repay you for finding what I needed for my wounds." Hearing this made Cyn's heart leap. She hadn't had a good meal in weeks! Better yet, it was something a human prepared, and it had no meat in it! Excitedly she watched as he ate some of the soup, dishing it out with a metal ladle he had. Finally, after finishing, he walked down to the lake's edge to clean out his wounds. Quickly, Cyn dashed in, and, using the ladle, ate a large portion of the soup. It was sweet, and had chunks of fruit in it. Finally, she dashed back into the bushes, and watched as the human returned, and inspected the pot. "Well, they must have like my soup!" he said cheerfully, before finally laying down by the fire, and covering up with what looked like the canvas top to a wagon.
"I think I actually like this human so far." Cyn said, smiling. Not only was he not hunting her, but he respected her privacy, fed her, and was providing her with something to watch for entertainment.
"Good night, friend... oh, and my name's Will." He said, smiling. "I have a feeling your watching. Anyways, good night." As he dozed off, Cyn snuck over and scratched her name into the ground near him with her claws. If he was nice enough to trust her, she could at least give him a name to refer to her.
"Good night, Will." She whispered, looking down at the sleeping human. This was the closest she had ever been to a human that wasn't intent on taking her life. The first time she truly felt safe around someone.
