TWISTS ADVENTURES
Chapter 1: The Forest Adventure
It seemed like a typical day in Mronin . Clear blue sky could be seen for miles around and a refreshing breeze filled the air which made the hot summers day bearable. For many years now there had been a big rivalry between the Humans of Tyridge and the Wolves of Fenshadow Camp; no one really knew why but it was also never questioned.
Tyridge, a fairly large town located on the north-western side of Mronin, which also has its own grand castle, ruled by King Denoven. The town itself was filled with stone buildings and centered around a small busy market known for its fresh produce.
Further south, past the dense Setherwood Forest, Fenshadow Camp could be found. A small, simple camp of Wolves lead by Steach Wildtooth .The camp was surrounded by a much more lightly wooded area, which kept the it partly enclosed.
At Fenshadow Camp, Steach rounded up the pack for a couple of announcements, including something important for his brother Twist..
"Today, Twist will be leading the hunt into Setherwood Forest," announced Steach in a deep tone. He looked at Twist and said "Don't let me down!"
Twist swiftly and confidently replied "Don't worry! Consider it done brother."
"Secondly," said Steach with an evil grin on his face, "the reason why I'm not leading. I have a certain 'distraction' to take care of. Twist it's up to you!"
Twist turned to the pack and yelled "For Fenshadow!" before letting out a loud piercing howl, and setting out into the forest.
Meanwhile in Tyridge, Pringle and Treat, the King's son, were preparing the guards for the ongoing battles. Suddenly out of nowhere the sky lit up with a bright red glow which filled the surrounding grounds with a blinding light followed by... nothing; silence. Confused and baffled, no one knew what had just happened. Questions were asked, everyone crowded around the castle expecting a response from the King.
King Denoven called in Pringle and Treat for a meeting to discuss the situation.
"So you two, I guess you know why I called you," Said King Denoven with a puzzled look on his face. "It seems that whatever caused that... thing came from deep in Setherwood Forest and I want you both to sort out a team and investigate what happened. Report back to me as soon as you find anything! Make sure you are careful though; there are bound to be traps." He walked up to Treat and handed him two bags, a map of the forest and a compass in each. "I'd recommend splitting up at the Crossroads to cover more ground."
"We shall leave at once! Don't worry about us father, nothing will get in our way!" said Pringle.
They then went outside to address the people of Tyridge about what was going to happen. There was quite a crowd gathered outside the castle. Panic, excitement and fear ran through the people around the castle ground, slowly simmering down as they noticed King Denoven appear.
"Ladies and Gentleman of Tyridge" pronounced the King, confidently and with a smile. "This is indeed a strange incident that we have just witnessed. I will not rest until we find out what it was. Our best men will be heading out right away to check Setherwood Forest".
Pringle and Treat worked to gather up a squad guards and head out into the forest. It was a half hour walk to the forest, over the hilly grasslands outside of Tyridge.
But little did they know that this was all a setup by Steach to lure the Humans into the forest. Twist was also unaware of the situation, as this was to be a test of his abilities.
Both parties were now deep into Setherwood Forest. It was a dense forest, where little sunlight passed through the fully branched trees, intertwining with each other to form a natural seal into the forest. It was almost dead silent, all that could be heard was the faint echoing of crushing twigs, leafs crushing and insects buzzing; humming to themselves. The Wolves were at an advantage and the Humans knew it.
As they arrived at the crossroad, they split into two groups. Pringle and Treat organised the best guards to take the left route since it was known to be safer, whilst they and the rest of the guards took the right route, which headed closer to Fenshadow Camp and was known for Wolf activity.
After about an hour Treat turned to Pringle and cautiously suggested "I don't think its safe to enter too much further; there are bound to be traps and other dangers set up."
"Just a bit further, I can feel we are close. I can feel it." argued Pringle disagreeably.
Everyone was starting to get tired and restless, so they decided that enough was enough and decided to head back.
But it was too late . They stood there facing Twist and his pack.
This was the first time that Twist had encountered a human, but it was not his pack's. However, Steach had told them to act like it was their first time, a further pressure for Twist.
Both sides looked at each other with steady eyes, trying to intimidate each other; both waiting for either to make a move. Time stretched out , the tension building up. Both sides slowly edged as if they were going to make a move. You could see the Wolves mouths, drooling at the thought of ripping the Humans apart with their sharp claws and sinking their teeth into their fresh pink flesh.
The anticipation ran both ways. Pringle was eager to get his blade deep into the Wolves, slicing them open and covering the forest with blood-soaked fur.
Suddenly, Twist ran in and pounced with the full force of his strength on one of the guards, knocking him to the floor with a huge thud before slitting the poor man's neck open with his bare claws, slowly to let the man cry out in pain.
The Humans had not stood idle though. Running to meet the Wolves, Treat swiftly followed with a decapitating swing of his sword, taking two Wolf's heads clean off and spraying blood everywhere, causing their heads to bounce a few paces over the ground.
After a few bloody moments, all that were left were Pringle, Treat and Twist.
"So its just you and us, you mangy Wolf!" growled Treat to Twist, taking deep breaths as his body still pumped adrenaline from the battle. "You going to stand there? Or shall we get on with this?"
Twist let off an angry growl towards Treat and Pringle before retreating back towards Fenshadow Camp, alone.
"Hah! Guess he was scared of us, huh brother?" laughed Pringle to Treat, exhausted from battle. "It's getting late and we best be heading back."
As Pringle and Treat approached the Tyridge Castle, the King waited for the report on what had happened in the forest. The brothers wondered if the other group had had any luck with finding anything and informed the King about the situation. The other group still hadn't returned when they had finished.
Whilst this was going on something bad was about to happen in Fenshadow Camp.
Twist had returned, alone and with nothing to show for the hunt, except for the smell of defeat and slowly drying blood covering his fur.
Steach walked up to Twist, clearly unimpressed. "So you bring failure to this camp, and you have the nerve to return as if nothing has happened?" he sneered. "Explain yourself!"
Twist informed Steach about what happened, running into the Humans and such but this just made things much worse.
Steach made a swipe at his brother and said "I lured them humans in here to test your abilities! Which you've obviously failed. You are no longer welcome here; you are a failure and I wont have that in my camp! And as far as I'm concerned... I have no brother. Now get out before I end your sorry existence!"
Twist was shocked, he couldn't believe this but at the same time he knew he must leave, to stop something even more disastrous happening.
