Desperate Measures - Chapter 5
The large conference room was filled with the hum of voices, everyone whispering to each other about what was going on. They had all walked into a message on their computers stating there was a mandatory meeting at 9:30 that morning. The rumors started soon after that. Lumina barely had time to wake up, let alone start processing what was going on.
She sat down in one of the open chairs in the back of the room, catching a glimpse of her reflection in the window. The bags under her eyes were black and her hair was a big ball of mess on top of her head. She sighed, taking a sip of her third cup of coffee, and shut her eyes as they waited for the meeting to start. To Lumina, it felt like seconds, to the rest of the room it felt like days. Three men entered the room, all dressed in suits, all looking way too official.
Lumina sat up as one of them stepped forward, "Good morning everyone. Sorry to keep you all waiting."
"We've had quite the morning. And we'll cut right to the chase so we can move on to our next location." Another one spoke up, "Half of every department here will be cut. We don't have the revenue to keep all of you on the payroll."
They all forced smiles as the third one stepped forward, "We're going to leave it up to each department's managers as to who needs to be cut. Please try not to let this affect your work, and continue your lives as if nothing has changed. Do not give us a reason to cut you. That's all."
The three men exited just as quickly as they'd entered, leaving everyone wide-eyed and frightened. A few minutes had passed before anyone even so much as blinked. As soon as everyone woke from their stunned state they began to move, some almost running to their desks to get back to work. All the while, Lumina struggled to get out of her chair. She'd been up for almost 30 hours looking for Evelynn, who still hadn't been home since her bar shift Sunday night. It was now Tuesday.
When Lumina finally made it back to her desk, and took her seat, a very annoyed Luther came up to her, "Where have you been and why do you look like shit?"
"I haven't slept. I have some personal...."
"Forget I asked. It's your turn for your interview."
"Interview?"
"Yes. I'm conducting interviews to see who is worth keeping. It's your turn."
"O-okay." Lumina stood back up, stumbling a little, and followed him back into his office.
Once they had both taken their seats, Luther spoke, "Why don't you start with why I should keep you in this company? What do you bring to the table?"
"Well, I'm young, spunky, and willing to put in all the time and effort I need to get this company to succeed."
Luther yawned dramatically, "How is that different than any of the other temps?"
"I have a background in meteorology?"
"Was that a question?" Luther shook his head, standing up from his desk, "You know what? Why don't you just leave? You clearly don't have what it takes."
"No. I do. I just... I need a day. Please." Lumina also stood, "I can prove my worth if you just give me today to get myself in order. I promise, tomorrow, I will be back to my normal 110%"
Luther tilted his head, "You're lucky I like you." he glanced over her slowly, "First thing tomorrow morning. I expect you to be at your best. You're excused for the day."
"Thank you, thank you."
"Save it for tomorrow." Luther put up a hand, dismissive, "Now get out of here before I change my mind."
Lumina hurried back to her desk and grabbed her things, she could already hear the whispers of her co-workers.
"She's the first cut, this is really happening."
"She always worked so hard and they're cutting her?"
"I heard she's kind of a slut."
She ignored them all as she reached for the closing elevator, and smiled cheesily towards them as she turned around once inside. There was only one thing that mattered right now and that was Evelynn. Where could she be? She'd already checked the apartment Eric used to live at, the bar, and obviously the apartment, but she didn't know of anywhere else she could be. Lumina wasn't much of a party person or a socialite like Evelynn was, so she never went with her to her normal hangouts. On the rare occasions she did, she'd get so wasted she couldn't remember half the night anyways.
The drive was a complete blur of buildings and cars against a back-drop of nothingness. She was at the apartment before her brain could process the fact she'd left the building in the first place. Up the stairs and through the door she ran straight into-
"Evelynn?!" Lumina hugged her friend harder than she'd ever done before, and when the moment was over, she began to yell. "WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN!?"
Evelynn winced at the sound, "Jesus, Lumina, do you have to scream?"
"WHEN YOUR FRIEND GOES MISSING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT LET'S SEE YOU KEEP YOUR COOL."
"Okay. Okay, just please stop screaming." Evelynn stepped back, and her ears folded back, "I was with Eric."
Lumina's eyes grew wide, and Evelynn swore they went red for at least a second.
"Listen." she held up a hand, exposing a glittering ring on her finger.
"Evelynn Roxanne Adira what the FUCK is on your finger?"
"Would you just shut up and let me talk?" Evelynn glared at her friend, "Eric came by while I was at work and asked if I would talk to him when I got off. I went over there and we talked for a long time. He's sober now and wants to be together. Forever. And I love him so I said yes. I only came back to grab my things."
"There's so many things wrong with this picture."
"I'm not finished." Eve took a deep breath, "He's promised that he'll stay sober, get a job, and provide for me and our future kids. He said he'll see a counselor and go to rehab if necessary." Eve's eyes glazed over, as if she was dreaming, "Lummy- I'll finally get everything I've ever wanted."
"Eve..." Lumina grabbed her friend by the hands, looking into her eyes, "I promise you, one day you will get everything you want in life, but you will never have that with Eric."
Eve's brow furrowed, "What do you mean?"
"Eric is an addict and an abuser and if he wants to get better, that's wonderful. But marrying him before her does so? You're setting yourself up for failure. Things will never change."
"How could you say that?" Her eyes filled with tears, "I love him, and he loves me, and you should be happy for me."
"Is that what you are? Happy?"
"Yes."
"Then go. Go be happy, but don't expect me to be happy for you...for you ruining your life." Lumina's eyes flooded, "I could never be happy knowing my best friend would willingly live with a guy who's going to end up killing her."
Eve gasped, shook to silence by her friends' words."I can't believe you said that." She said when she finally found her voice, and strapped her bag over her shoulder. "Goodbye, Lumina." She slammed the door behind her, not giving Lumina anytime to respond, if she would've anyways.
Lumina was never much of a crier, but that day, she cried until she had nothing left. She cried herself to sleep.

Lumina woke the next morning with more determination than she knew possible. She stood up from her bed, waltzed to her closet and picked out an outfit she'd never thought she'd wear to work before today. She pulled the sheer dress over top of her thick, braless figure and tied the belt around her waist. She caught a glimpse of herself from her bathroom mirror and smirked, "Guess those slut rumors will be confirmed after today, huh girls?" She looked down to her mostly exposed chest and grabbed her coat. Her long jacket wrapped around her, concealing her see-through clothing, at least for the time being.
She left for work far earlier than normal, wanting to get there before Luther. She rode the elevator with confidence and walked straight into his unlocked office.
She kept the lights off as she moved the things on his desk to the side. Most of it was paperwork and she hoped that none of it was important. She then pulled off her jacket, using it as a blanket to cover the large, metal desk. Lumina laid herself down on top of it, propping herself up with her elbow. It wasn't too long before she was joined.
"Good morning, Sir Luther." She spoke slowly, deepening her voice a little.
"Oh.. my.." Luther stuttered as the lights flickered on, revealing Lumina's full form, "What are you doing in here?"
The door shut softly as Lumina spoke, "I'm proving my worth to the company."
Luther turned to lock the door, his bulge becoming increasingly more noticeable through his tight jeans.
"Leave it. This won't take long"
Luther's eyes widened in surprise and he stepped away from the door as Lumina sat up and spread her legs.
"Now let's get a few things straight."
Luther nodded, his eyes not leaving her clearly exposed crotch.
"I will continue to hold my position at Channel 6 as a temp for 2 more months. I will work hard, and you will publically make note of that work." Lumina grabbed Luther by the waist and pulled him closer, his still fully clothed cock rubbed against her open thighs, "Then you will promote me to a permanent position, because I'm an asset to the company." She unzipped his pants, pulling them down around his ankles, "6 months after that, you will write me a GLOWING recommendation to any news station of my liking saying that I am over qualified for the job I have here and could be better used somewhere else. Understand?" She took his member in her hands, holding it tightly.
"I understand." His voice cracked, strained.
"Good." Lumina smiled, "Now come fuck me."
She leaned back on his desk as he pulled his pants off the rest of the way and joined her. The desk creaked as Luther leaned against it, all of his weight shifting it as he stood.
"Hurry up now, take too long and we might get interrupted." She smiled slyly, tilting her head in a teasing manner.
Luther rubbed himself against her wet pussy, teasing her, "I'll take however long I want." He muttered, his breath staggered.
Lumina sat up, dropping her leg and grabbing Luther by the tie, "No. You'll do as I say. Now hurry up before I fucking change my mind." She reached down to his penis and slid it inside her, faking a dramatic moan. Her eyes closed as Luther began to thrust into her.
She wrapped her legs around his waist, giving herself more leverage and began to rock her hips back and forth. She ran a hand down his chest, scratching it lightly as he began to sweat. It was clear to Lumina that it wouldn't take much more to get him to climax, so she took it up a notch. She placed her arm around his waist and pulled him against her, disabling his movement. Using this to her advantage she pulsed against him as fast as she could and smacked his exposed ass. "Cum." She spoke softly into his ear as she nibbled at it, "right...now" She pushed him back, his eyes rolling back and he hit the wall behind him. He felt the dam break as his cock pulled out of her. The hot, white cream sprayed across the room, getting all over everything.
"Damn." Luther muttered, breathing heavily, "That...that was..."
"Don't bother with words. It looks to me that your energy needs to be saved to clean up that mess you made." Lumina stood up from the desk, pulling her dress back into place, "Now I'm taking a personal day the rest of today, but I fully expect our deal to be set in motion tomorrow." She grabbed her coat, inspecting it for any traces of his explosion, and put it on, "Have a great day, Sir Luther." She smirked, opening the door with him still fully exposed inside his office and strode back the way she'd come not 20 minutes before.
