Code Oblivion Chapter 9
James just let out a sigh as he woke up in a still unfamiliar bed, it had been a week since he had started staying with Emily and her family. Her parents had been surprisingly gracious towards him. Something that honestly surprised him given he had been so cruel to Littlesea who he knew they considered a second son, he honestly felt he didn't deserve it in all honesty. He just wasn't used to being treated with kindness by adults. Her father, Mr. Davidson had been especially kind to him. The elder feline was a teacher and he had taught him, Emily and Littlesea back in Middle School. He had been the one teacher back then who didn't treat him like he was stupid.
He also wasn't used to staying somewhere so clean, he was used to the filth and squalor of his home and the yelling from his father. He would have happily stayed in the bed if he hadn't heard a knock on his door. "Hey Jay, you decent?" He heard Emily's voice from the other side of the door. He let out a quiet yes, he was used to sleeping nude back at his place but given he was technically staying in someone else's home, he didn't feel that would be right so he had donned a pair of shorts and a tee, ones borrowed from Emily's older brother who, as she pointed out was around the same size he was. He figured he would have to repay them somehow for their kindness, once he made it big with MODD he would make sure to set them up for life. That and try to get his mother the help she desperately needed, hopefully he could finally get her away from that bastard.
His thoughts were eventually broken from his thoughts when Emily entered, smiling. She was wearing a cute little dress and sandals and her hair done in a little braid. "Sup?" He said casually as she entered the room and sat on the bed.
"How are you doing?" She asked kindly as she patted him on his knee.
"I'm doing pretty well, it feels nice I guess. You know, being in a place where I'm not hated or despised." He said before letting out a sad sigh. "I feel bad though, I'm doing great here but my mom is still stuck with that bastard. I want nothing more than for her to get away from him. I hope when I join MODD and make it big I can get her help, wean her off the drugs and get her away from dad so she can be happy." Emily just nodded and patted his knee once again.
"That's sweet of you, I'm sure you will get her help. While you are gone my family and I will look after your mom so you don't have to worry, show her she has some worth." She said before giving him a small smile. "But I was thinking, wanna get a bite to eat?" This piqued James' interest, he hadn't thought about eating out in a while, he usually didn't have the money. He was too busy with football to get a job, plus his parents very rarely gave him much spending money so eating out with friends was usually a luxury. He usually just charmed a girl into buying him food (which usually resulted in getting into her pants...he didn't enjoy the sex but he knew it was expected of him and if he refused, people would start talking and he couldn't afford people to figure out he was gay, he would be ruined).
"I don't have the money...what I have is what I intend to use for my trip to Vernati so I can make my flight to join the Academy." Emily just nodded and smiled, patting his leg once again.
"I'll pay, don't worry big guy. You can pay me back when you get you get rich working with MODD right?" This made James laugh and caused her to smile at him. Sometimes he did regret being gay, Emily was a very pretty girl on top of being friendly and smart. It would have been so much easier if he had feelings for her and not her best friend.
"Yeah, I'll pay you and your family back for all the kindness and get my mom the best help money can buy. I don't really care about my dad as bad as it sounds, but he never loved me and I have no real love for him either." James said as he laid back on his bed and sighed. "I always wondered what it was like to have a loving family. And now I see it with yours, it's nice. Not having a parent throw bottles at me whenever I got in their way or I said something they didn't like." James said bitterly, that was something he knew he had to work on, the bitterness. He figured he could get some therapy.
"Given how he has treated you it's understandable, abuse victims have no reason to love their abusers Jay, you are justified in how you feel." Emily said firmly while gripping his knee. "Your father is a bastard, he always was and always will be. He'll drink himself to death one day and he'll be all alone. But he made that choice Jay. You are choosing to be better."
"It scares me though...am I making a mistake? I want to join MODD but that's what my dad did. He went through everything I plan on doing and look at how that turned out. How will I really be any better?" Emily just let out another sigh and hugged the alsatian closely.
"You have an example of what not to do, and you will have me and other people to keep you on the right track. And hey, maybe one day you and Noah will meet up. You can try and make amends for your sins against him. But seriously, let's go get something to eat. I was thinking we could go to Sammy's." James winced when he heard the name, Sammy was the owner of one of the few restaurants in town. It was nothing special, just a burger place, but as for everyone in Crosstown felt, they were among the best burgers west of Shellington. The man had also been good friends with Dr. Littlesea. They had been close ever since the wolf had moved into town with his son. James knew the two had always played poker with a few of the other men in the town (one of them being Em's father.)
The man had always treated him kindly and when school was out and he had nothing to eat for several days, the man would sometimes give him some free food in exchange for small errands. He was one of the few adults who didn't treat him like a pariah. Emily seemed to notice this and patted him once again on the knee. "I know, I just want to check up on him. He and Dr. Littlesea were super close so I can't even imagine what he is going through." James just sighed and nodded before gently pushing Emily off the bed.
"Okay, we can go but let me get changed alright? Then we can go." Emily just laughed and left the room without any fuss as James grabbed a few clothes from the closet. He was very glad Nico and him were around the same size. The feline was quite around 20 as far as he remembered, he was in his final year of college and if James remembered correctly he was getting a degree in software engineering. Something James thought extremely cool but knew he was never smart enough to understand. After he changed and sniffed himself to make sure he didn't stink he walked out and saw Emily was standing in the hallway calmly filing her claws. When she saw him she gave him a bright smile.
"There you are!" She said as she walked up to him and grabbed his arm. "Now let's go!" James just let out a small chuckle and let her drag him on the way downstairs and after saying a brief goodbye to her parents the two got dressed in their jackets and snow boots and then they were off. Outside was as cold as they figured it was and with a mutual shiver they stuffed their gloved-covered paws into their pockets and began their trek to Sammy's. The place wasn't too far, it was pretty close to the town square by the ever creepy statues of the founders of Crosstown. There had been countless urban legends regarding them like coming to life during the night to drain the life essence like some vampire.
"Didn't some random author make some lame novel about Crosstown?" James asked blandly, he remembered some girls rambling on about it during Science. From what he gathered it was about some girl who came to Crosstown to live with her father and met some vampire or something...it sounded really stupid as far as he was concerned, but the chicks seemed really into it.
"Oh, you mean Crimson Moon? I read it, it's nice but not something I would go gaga over. Even if the boys do sound hot." Emily said with a mild chuckle. "The next book is supposed to come out in a few months, I was thinking of picking it up. I saw the author Rob Lester on Miranda's, he was giving details on the book and it sounds interesting." James just nodded, he didn't really care and he figured Emily knew it as she dropped it as the two went the rest of the way in a comfortable silence. Neither really felt the need to say anything as they trekked through the thick snow. The town looked very beautiful and James realized once he left he would honestly miss Crosstown.
Soon enough the two found themselves outside a small dingy looking diner, the place had ever been much to look at but everyone knew looks could be deceiving. As they stepped inside, both were surprised to see that the place was empty, the diner was usually packed but James guessed the weather and the panic from what happened in Eldra was why people had decided to just stay home. They approached the counter and saw a depressed looking rhino staring at a picture of him and a tall older wolf. When he noticed them, the man jumped and hid the picture behind the counter.
"Oh sorry, didn't see you there. I was about to close down since things had been slow." He said with a sigh. "It's been wild. I've been watching the news, can't believe Bryan is dead. It still hasn't clicked in quite yet. We were supposed to play some poker when he got back. I'm glad Noah got out okay though. Poor kid, I can't imagine what he went through." The man said with a shake of his head and James instantly became uncomfortable at the mention of Littlesea, he felt even worse about how he had treated the wolf. The Rhino seemed to notice his fidgeting. "I know you had a rough patch with Noah, you treated him badly and you regret it. If he ever returns you'll have to try and make it up to him James. You are a good kid, it's just a shame your father is a worthless drunk." The man let out another tired sigh and gave them a smile. "Anyway, enough of me moping. What's your order kids?"
Both of them ordered his mega burger and he told them that he would bring it to them and for them to just relax until he was finished. The two just nodded and took a booth near the entrance and Emily noticed how troubled James looked.
"You are beating yourself up over how you treated Noah again aren't you?" She asked him bluntly. James blushed and looked down at the table and nodded. He would probably be kicking himself for his treatment of the wolf until his dying breath. Emily just sighed and patted him on his paws.
"As I keep saying, you did something bad and it's good that you do feel guilt about it but please stop wallowing in it. You are going to be joining the MODD Academy soon, you can't let your guilt distract you from pursuing your dream. You have the chance to leave James, so take it and don't come back. Don't make the same mistake your dad did." James just nodded as he started playing with a napkin.
"You are right, I just wish I could tell him I'm sorry. I can't get him out of my head, he's been stuck in my head since we first met. I honestly don't know if I'm in love with him or just obsessed. I want nothing more than to make him mine, I always hated the idea of someone else coming on to him." He said as he placed his head in his paws. "It's stupid, I want to make him mine, yet I couldn't even talk to him without being an ass." James said as he shook his head. "I'll never see him again, I mean why would he ever come back here? With his dad gone, what does he have here?" Emily stayed silent for a bit and he suddenly felt guilty, it had to be hard for the poor girl. It was likely she missed Littlesea even more than he did. "I'm sorry, I was being selfish, wasn't it? This can't be easy for you, you guys were best friends after all."
"It's okay, I do miss him. But you are right, he has no real reason to return. Without his dad being here, it would probably be too painful." She said while tapping the table. "But I think I will see him one day. Maybe he will join the World Riders? That has been his dream for ages. Maybe one day when we are grown up I might run into him as he is doing work with them?" She said, her voice a bit quiet. "But I will be okay, I will miss him but as long as he is alive and happy I can't complain." She said while giving the boy a bright smile. "Who knows, you guys might actually work together one day. MODD does often hire the World Riders to do courier work." James rubbed his chin, she did have a point. If he did join MODD and Littlesea did join World Riders they really could work together. Maybe one day he could even confess his feelings for the wolf. But something felt off, it had been nearly ten minutes since they had made their order. Sammy should have been done with their burgers by now. He was usually fast on the take, having worked in the restaurant for decades. Plus he was starting to smell something that made his stomach twitch uncomfortably. 'Something is wrong... something is really wrong.' James thought to himself as he slowly got up from the table.
"I'm going to check on our order, stay here okay? Don't move." He said, Emily gave him a confused look but nodded and looked at the table. Letting out a sigh of relief, James walked towards the counter and saw it was empty and as he got closer that strange smell got stronger and stronger and his stomach began to turn even more. 'What is this smell...? It smells like burning flesh.' Not seeing the rhino, James headed towards the kitchen.
"Hey Sammy, I'm sorry for intruding but..." He said as he looked into the kitchen and saw the rhino bent over the stove and there was sizzling come from it. "Sammy...?" He asked, feeling worried that the rhino hadn't responded. As he got further into the kitchen he could sense the strange smell seemed to be coming from Sammy. "Sammy...?" He asked in a worried tone as he slowly drew closer and closer, doing his best to keep his ears out for any trouble. As he got closer, the stench got even stronger and once he finally got next to the man he almost vomited. 'What the fuck, what happened!' He mentally screamed as he saw the man's face.
Sammy was staring blankly, a massive bullethole on both the back of his head and an exit wound right in the middle of his forehead. Even worse was the fact half his face was resting on the hot stove and was slowly cooking with the flesh on his face slowly turning a charred black. 'This is bad, this is really bad...this isn't the work of an energy gun...this is from an old gun...one that uses bullets...nobody should have access to one of those... they were banned a century ago.' Sensing he was about to panic, he took a deep breath and tried to calm himself; it wouldn't do to lose his head right now. 'Okay think, someone murdered Sammy... I need to get out of here... I need to get Emily out of here as well, she is my top priority,' He thought as he took one last deep breath. But before he could even move he felt a cold metallic something slam into his back roughly, knocking the breath out of him.
"Shouldn't have snooped kid..." An unfamiliar voice rang out behind him, one with a large amount of pure malice that made a chill go down James's spine. "We would have let you and the girl go, but you had to snoop. I should have expected as much for an infidel like yourself."
'Infidel...? What does that even mea-' He thought to himself before everything clicked. 'No... that's not possible right? This isn't Weleshna... how would they even.' A deep pit of terror filled his stomach as he stayed frozen. He knew exactly what was going on, he had seen these types of people on the news all the time when they covered the news.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, he felt his body quivering in fear but he managed to hide it in his voice. It made no sense, what were the Inquisition doing in Rillotia? And the bigger question is why would they be in Crosstown of all places? There was nothing here that would be of any interest to a group of radical psychos. Jay would figure they would try for Shellington or hell, Atlus the capital but this dinky old town? One of the thugs just chuckled grimly.
"Normally wouldn't tell you but we are gonna kill you anyway so couldn't hurt. We are looking for someone, someone who could come in handy for our war against you infidels. We've been looking for them for years but we recently got information of them being here. Some brat with black fur and blond hair..." This made Jay's fur stand on edge. He looked around slowly and noticed Emily was hiding in the door, apparently the two were so focused on him that they hadn't noticed her yet. These two were after Littlesea and if he didn't keep them distracted they would hurt Emily as well, he couldn't allow that to happen. Without saying anything he crashed into one of the men and started tussling with them. He heard the other man move and just as he was about to shoot him Jay managed to force the other man in front of the gun and he took the shots and with a grunt the other man went still.
Jay tried to not dwell on the fact that he had a dead man right on top of him. Before the man could do anything, Jay managed to throw the dead man at him and the man let out a yelp as he was thrown to the ground and lost grip of the gun he was holding. Jay grabbed the gun that the other man was holding and kicked the knocked down man's gun away with his foot, making sure it was out of grabbing distance. He then pointed his own gun at the man as he was forcing his dead comrade off of him.
"Move and I'll shoot!" He said, his body was shaking and he could barely keep his aim steady and the man seemed to notice this and gave him a smug smirk. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed Emily sneak around them and was doing something with a thing of boiling oil that was meant to fry some fries. Figuring what she was up to he made sure to have the man's attention solely on him. The man continued to smirk, completely none the wiser of what was going on behind him.
"Give it up, you've probably never shot a gun before have you? Let alone shoot it at another person, I doubt you have what it takes to pull the trigger." James didn't say anything, just kept the gun focused on the man. As much as he hated to admit it the man was right, he had never even held a gun before, and it took everything in his power to keep the gun pointed at the man but he knew he had to keep this up, had to distract the man for as long as possible.
"Don't test me..." Jay said, his voice shaky but still firm enough to make it clear he would shoot. "Move and I'll blow your brains out." He said, he could feel his legs start to shake, he was terrified and the man seemed to catch this.
"Look at you kid, you are shaking in your boots. You aren't a killer that much is clear. You are a weak, scared kid. I've killed lots of kids your age." He said, James just growled at hearing at that.
This man was a monster but something caught his eye and he smiled. "I might not be able to shoot you but I did what I was trying to do." The man just gave him a confused look before Emily dumped a whole thing of boiling oil on him. The man screamed out in agony as his flesh started to boil as the room began to reek of burnt fur and flesh.
"Goddamnit!" The man yelled as he brushed his paws on his ruined face. "Fuck this! If I'm going to die then I'm taking you with me!" He said as he activated something on his vest and James immediately grabbed Emily and ran as fast as he could and just as they exited the building, the entire thing blew up, sending them both flying forward on the snow. When they got up, all they saw was chaos as there were gunshots everywhere and several buildings were on fire. James just stared at the chaos, this couldn't be real. Why was this happening? Why Crosstown? But he shook his head and focused. That didn't matter now, they had to get to safety and after checking that Emily was okay he grabbed her hand and started running.
"Where are we going? We got to find my mom and dad!" Emily yelled out as they continued to run.
"We're going to the police station, they have a shelter remember? We were always told to go there during the event of an Unsealed attack, if your parents had any sense they would go there first." Emily looked like she wanted to argue but she kept her mouth shut. The bunkers were installed after the Rillotian-Weleshnian War. It was a requirement for every station in Rillotia to have them and it was a place for safety and was invaluable for the cities and towns that lacked a MODD unit to protect them as they mostly relied on the Police to ensure order and protection of civilians.
"But!" Emily cried out but Jay stopped her as he picked her up and began running even faster. "Hey! Put me down! We gotta find my parents!" She yelled out while thumping on his chest but it didn't seem to affect him in the slightest as he didn't even let out a grunt as he ran headlong towards the police station, it was in the city center near Cross Keep and the ever creepy statues. It was a rather small building, fitting the small town they lived in and he was on the football team with the Sheriff's son. He actually liked Sheriff Geller, the dragon was a good man and was one of the few people who treated him with any respect.
As they neared the station they both winced as they heard numerous explosions all across the town, everything looked like it was on fire and the smoke made him gag. He didn't smell any death, hopefully plenty of people made it to the station. As they got even within sighting distance he saw the station was surrounded by officers and there was an energy barrier erected as well with many other people trying to get in, panicking. As they ran, one of the officers stopped them. He knew the man, a panther named Officer Willis. He actually served in the same platoon as Jay's father though he knew how disgusted the man was with his father but Jay didn't really care as he hated his father with a passion as well. Once he recognized them however he calmed down.
"Dawson, Davidson, glad you made it here safely." The man said as he made space for them to pass. "Your parents made it here shortly before you did Davidson." This seemed to make Emily relax as he let out a sigh of relief. Jay however had a sinking feeling in his gut. He mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Davidson but he didn't mention his own. He didn't even notice himself stop until he put Emily down.
"Go inside, I'll be alright." Emily gave him a worried look before she hugged him and ran inside, passing through the barrier with ease and into the building itself. He then turned towards the officer looking him right in the eye. "Officer Willis...what about my parents? Any word of them?" The man shook his head and sighed.
"No word, I'm sorry. I sent some officers to look for any stragglers so hopefully they bring your parents to safety." Jay just snorted and the man gave him a sad smile.
"I know you don't care for your father, boy, I can't believe what he has become...he was always a troubled man but I didn't think he would be the man he is now. Both you and Helen deserve so much better." He said as he patted the boy on his head. "Now go inside, and please stay safe." Jay just nodded and entered the building, shivering as he passed the barrier and as soon as he entered, he felt himself being embraced by Mr. Davidson.
"Thank god you're both safe...thank you James, thank you so much for protecting my daughter and getting her to safety!" Jay just nodded, stunned that he was being hugged, his mother was rarely aware enough to do so herself and his father outright refused to touch him when he wasn't hitting him. Mr. Davidson seemed to notice and backed away with a sad smile. "Ah I'm sorry...you aren't used to being given affection aren't you boy." Jay didn't say anything, just giving an almost helpless shrug. He really wasn't. It felt nice but at the same time it felt so weird. Almost alien really, he doubted he would ever get used to it.
"It's fine," he said in a noncommittal manner.
"Where did you two go?" Jay just sighed and looked down to the ground. "James?"
"We went to Samy's...they killed him Mr. Davidson...shot him in the head with one of these." He said as he held up the gun he had taken from the thugs. "They blew themselves up shortly afterwards. I managed to get one of them to kill the other and Emily poured some hot grease on him. We barely got out on time before the whole building blew up." Mr. Davidson just shuddered as Mrs. Davidson let out a shocked gasp as she held onto Emily.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through something like that...but let's go into the bunker and we'll talk then." Everyone just nodded and they went down the stairs and found themselves in a massive bunker. It was a massive room that held smaller apartment-like buildings inside it with dozens of doors lining the buildings. The place where people would likely stay during their time here no doubt. There was also in the middle of the area of what looked like a communal common area where people were gathered. On the sides of the rooms were bathrooms and he saw what looked like a large kitchen area well stocked. There were already hundreds of people here, it looked like the entire town had just about made it to safety. A female collie in a nurse uniform walked up and greeted them.
"Welcome, glad you made it safely, I'll show you all to your private cubicle." They followed her and as they moved throughout the room he saw a lot of the people he knew throughout the town. Everyone was in various states of panic and horror as they huddled together as the noise rang out from the battles above. This was bad...black fur and blond hair...did they mean Littlesea? Why would they need him? He was just a kid. Whatever it was about he was glad Littlesea wasn't here...he was safe wherever he was. Eventually they found them themselves in a small space with two beds and a table for eating. It was tiny and cramped but hopefully they wouldn't be in here that long. There were probably forcers from Vernati City's MODD base on their way as they spoke. Hell, Gale Winthrop himself might be on his way. Those bastards wouldn't stand a chance against an Elemental Lord!
He also noticed as they passed were several armed guards throughout the bunker, volunteers who agreed to be a last line of defense just in case the bunker was somehow invaded he figured. The thought made Jay shiver, the very thought of it was terrifying and he desperately hoped this wouldn't come to pass. He looked down at the gun and gripped it tightly. 'What am I doing? I should be out there helping right? I shouldn't be here cowering... I'm gonna join MODD so I should be out there fighting` His thoughts were broken when he felt Emily's paw on his arm.
"You alright Jay? You look distracted." Jay gave her a strained smile before speaking.
"'I'm fine, don't worry about me okay?" He sighed before looking towards the ceiling. "Those people want Littlesea, why would they want to get him? He's just a kid...why is he so important?" Emily just shrugged, she didn't seem to have any idea why either.
"I'm worried too, It's a good thing Noah isn't here." She said while gripping his arm. "I'm so scared, I never thought we'd be attacked by something like the Inquisition. I hope the police can hold them off until the MODD forcers get here." Jay just nodded.
"I'm sure. For all we know Gale Winthrop himself could be on his way! No way these losers could handle the Ninja of the Seven Winds!" He told her referencing the monkey's epitet. Emily just chuckled.
"You are such a fanboy, but you are right. I doubt they have anyone who could contend with any of the Elemental Lords. All we have to do is wait." And wait they did, several hours had passed and Jay could still hear the yelling and explosions from aboveground. It really seemed like they were still going at it and soon it got late enough to where the lighting began to dim to signal it was nighttime. They had eaten dinner with a few other townsfolk and people continued to drift in but none of them were his parents and Jay was becoming very worried. He was even beginning to worry about his father...but the longer it went without them coming to the bunker made his heart drop...he knew his father still retained some of his combat skills first hand from the beatings but his mother wasn't a fighter...no way would she be able to fend for herself in a warzone.
Emily also noticed this and gripped his paw and squeezed it gently. "They'll be okay, don't worry Jay." He just nodded, he wasn't sure if she was right but he didn't want to worry her so he swallowed his worry and smiled and agreed with her. Soon enough they were in their private apartment. It was a single room, not even having a bathroom which explained why there were so many communal bathrooms. It really just had enough room for two beds and a desk. There was a bit of awkward talk on who would sleep where. It was eventually resolved that Emily and her mom would share a bed and he would sleep with her father. It was really awkward sleeping in the same bed. Despite being gay he had actually never done anything with another man, he was too scared of being outed to risk anything. So it felt weird, Mr. Davidson noticed this and teased him a bit but he did help Jay calm down and eventually the boy drifted off to sleep.
A few hours later though, something made him wake up. He wasn't sure why but he had a weird feeling in his stomach. Guess I have to use the bathroom?
He thought to himself as he did his best to get out of bed without waking up Mr. Davidson and he took the gun with him. He didn't know why but he didn't feel safe without it near him, like a safety blanket almost. As he was walking towards the bathroom sirens suddenly started blaring and the room was enveloped in red light as a loud voice came from the speakers. Sheriff Geller's voice.
"Attention! The police station has been breached! I repeat that the police station has been breached! We are initiating a lockdown on the bunker area! Everyone please stay calm, we will inform you when the situation has calmed down!" The yelling started seconds later as everyone started to panic and he noticed the vault door was starting to close so with as much speed as he could muster he ran and managed to get out before the door closed completely and he found himself in the basement of the police station.
'What am I doing? Why did I come out here? What was I thinking?' Jay thought to himself and he let out a loud yelp when he heard someone behind him.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" He twirled around and saw Emily was also outside the door, paws on her hips glaring at him.
"I could ask you the same thing!" He shouted back to her.
"I came out here because I saw you running to the door like an idiot! And I followed because I was afraid you would get killed or something! What were you thinking coming out here!" As she said this, loud noises were coming from upstairs.
"I couldn't just stay in the bunker while others were fighting! I'm supposed to be joining MODD! This is a chance to prove I'm worthy of it! I would just be a coward if I stayed inside." He said, looking towards the ground. "You should've stayed inside Em, I made the decision to try and fight. I didn't want you to be put at risk as well."
"I couldn't just let you run into the fire by yourself moron!" Emily shouted in frustration. "But seriously, you have no combat training and we both know you wouldn't have pulled the trigger on the bastard." Jay winced but he knew she was right, if it wasn't for Emily the cultist would have likely overwhelmed him eventually and killed him.
"I just couldn't stand being a bystander, I felt like a coward just sitting in the bunker." He said, gripping his gun tightly. As they were talking, the noises were still going on on. Emily just sighed but before she could say anything there was a dark chuckle.
"Well, look who we got here? Two naughty brats out of the bunker! I barely got past those assholes so I get to take my frustration out on you." James quickly turned around and placed himself in front of Emily, blocking her from view as he swiftly pointed his gun at the burly gorilla.
"Move a single step closer and I'll blow your head off!" Jay snarled in anger, he noticed his body was shaking less than he was before and his mind was clear and focused. The man gave him a maniacal grin.
"Oh, you will, will you? Have you ever killed anybody before little brat?" He said and just as he stepped forward. Jay pulled the trigger and a bullet sped, missing the gorilla's head by mere inches, making him jump back in surprise before grinning again. "Bit of a spitfire aren't you boy? I like that! Shame I gotta kill you though!" He said before putting his hand in his cloak and right as Jay was about to pull the trigger he noticed the cultist suddenly start moving in slow motion.
'What the hell!?' He thought right as a flash of black and gold rushed past them, knocking the cultist out in one hit as the cultist went back to regular speed and once things settled Jay noticed who the person standing in front of them was.
A young black wolf with bright sapphire blue eyes and golden hair which had gotten somewhat longer. Emily was the first to react as she ran up and hugged the wolf tightly.
"Noah!!!" She cried out in joy as she ran into him with enough force to nearly knock him over! He didn't really react at first besides letting out a grunt from the force of the impact but after registering the situation he hugged her back. But a second later she moved back and smacked him aside the head. "What are you doing!! These assholes are here to nab you!"
Noah just growled and rubbed his head and glared at her. "This is my home! I'm not going to let those Inquisition assholes harm anyone here! But wait, you said they were after me? Really? Why?" Emily just shook her head and sighed.
"No clue, but they seem to think you can help them in their war against MODD." Emily said, still hugging him. "I'm so glad you are okay Noah. I was so worried." He nodded and hugged her back. Jay just watched the two...his heart was beating in his chest.
'This is your chance Jay, do something!' He mentally screamed at himself. 'Come on, don't chicken out now! Now is the chance to confess and make peace.' With a sigh he went up to Littlesea himself. "Hey Littlesea?" Noah jumped a bit and went stiff as he noticed the alsatian.
"Dawson what are you doi-!?" He growled out before he was cut off as Jay kissed him, holding him tight. He could feel his heart soaring as he did what he had longed to do for years. He was so enthralled he didn't even notice the wolf had stiffened up in shock until he felt a hard knee to his groin, causing him to let go of the wolf and falling on the ground groaning. Noah was standing over him glaring with a sword to his throat.
"What the fuck was that Dawson?" He shouted in both anger and confusion. "Seriously, you torment me for YEARS and calling me a faggot and you were gay yourself!? How fucking stereotypical can you get!" He snarled, meanwhile Jay could only groan out in pain as he covered his crotch.
"Um, Noah..." Emily said awkwardly. "Could you, ya know... not put a sword to his throat?"
Noah stopped growling to look at her confused. "What are you doing out here anyway? It's dangerous!"
Emily rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed by all of this. "I came out because I was chasing this idiot because he wanted to be a hero!"
"Why are you with this asshole anyway?" He asked, glaring down at the other boy. Emily just gave him an awkward smile.
"It's a long story...he's actually been staying with me for awhile..." This seemed to stun him into silence.
"What!?" He asked her loudly. "Why? Why was he staying with you?" He asked, looking almost betrayed.
"Because his family treats him horribly, you know his dad beats him." Noah still looked a bit betrayed but looking slightly calmer. "Just wanted to give him a chance to be better and he's been doing good. Plus, as you saw yourself he was your stereotypical closet case. He was afraid if his dad found out he was gay he would make his life even more hellish, right Jay?" Jay looked uncomfortable being put on the spot like this but he sighed and got up and looked at the wolf. He had changed a bit, maybe not so much physically but James could tell in his eyes that the other boy had seen some shit. He looked tired but also strong and determined and looking at him made his heart skip a beat.
"She's right...I've liked you for so long but I was scared because I felt if people knew how I was they would reject me and my life would be ruined. I actually plan on joining MODD to get out of this hellhole." He said with a dark chuckle. "I'm done with that now though...I'm tired of not being myself...and Em gave me a chance to finally be true to myself, even though I know I don't deserve it." He says with a shrug, watching the other boy who looked less angry now and more confused. "I'm a coward, I know that." He says as gets closer to the wolf. But he couldn't do anything however as he heard some commotion going on upstairs. Suddenly, someone came rushing downstairs and soon enough, a massive wolf and tiger came down, both looked a bit scratched up but overall unharmed. They were both wearing a MODD coat with the symbol of the elemental seal of Metal. He actually recognized the wolf however.
"Holy crap! You're Lieutenant Aidan Hart! The son of the elemental lord of metal!" He said in aww. The wolf gave him an odd look before focusing back on Littlesea.
"There you are...these your friends?" He asked, gesturing towards him and Em and he just shrugged.
"Sorta? How is everything?"
"We got the place cleared, it wasn't too hard. But the Sheriff has asked for all of us."
"Really? Okay, guess we shouldn't keep him waiting then..." Noah said as he started to head back out and both Jay and Emily looked towards each other and followed him out.
'Guess we'll see what happens now.` Jay thought to himself as they began leaving the police station.
