A Dragon and his Jockey - Ch05.1
Revakulgr's runt sister comes calling to claim him and his newfound fortune, but she didn't count on Rain being more than just your average, puny human. If the jockey can put a full-sized male like Revakulgr in his place, what chance does a pony-sized punk stand?

Revakulgr purred contentedly, enjoying the sight of his half-human younglings as they scampered around and over him, tussling with one another and with the kobold nursemaids, and generally behaving like happy little hatchlings should. A male would not normally be allowed around ones so young, barely a month old, but they already had sharp claws and teeth and stubby wings and blunt horns, and Rain was only human after all. She was fragile, and it wouldn't have been fair to dump the little darlings on the kobolds, as much as she wanted to, so the dragon had made the enormous personal sacrifice of volunteering to spend time watching and playing with his offspring. It allowed his human mate to take a break and tend to her scratches, scrapes, and bruises, and it also let her deal with their business manager so that Revakulgr didn't have to. He wasn't eager to play with the tiny, wonderful, bundles of scale and skin and joy no matter how much Rain teased him about it; he just didn't like having to deal with James's endless questions about how to handle their finances, who to pick for the new team they were creating, what dragon to pair Jessica with, on and on and on, boring boring, blah blah blah. The hatchlings were simpler. And far more cute.
He was still, first and foremost, a dragon though, and a highly trained male in peak condition at that. When the two male kobolds that Rain had dubbed Kodo and Podo came rushing into the nursery to gabble at him in alarm that a strange dragon had appeared to challenge their matriarch, his first instinct was to shoot out of the room in a full rage so furious that it would scorch the temerity of this intruder to cinders before he even reached the field of battle. His second instinct, however, was to wait until the hatchlings had been hustled into the secure room attached to the nursery, double check that their attendants were in with them, lock everything tightly, and only then charge out to face the intruder. He wasn't stupid enough to leave their young unguarded and face Rain's fury afterwards; whatever condition she was in, she'd still pull his wings off and feed them to him.
Strange dragon could have been almost anyone in the entire world; he had few friends amongst his kind though a number of associates, quite a few breeding partners, and several enemies and rivals. The two latter categories were most likely to be challenging his mate to combat over him, or perhaps trying to challenge him but she got in the way, and he was expecting to find her bleeding and broken and himself in need of viciously avenging her on some unfortunate soon-to-be-corpse. What he found, on the other hand, had him having to choke back laughter so hard that he felt like he was going to burst his lungs. His mate was not the largest human he had ever seen taller than average, lithe and strong but a female of the species; she was a spectacular specimen of her kind, but few would ever have bet on her when pitted against a dragon. Revakulgr would have, but he knew better.
"What. In the fuck. Is your fucking. Problem?" the bronzed female demanded, each phrase punctuated by the hard thwap of a folding lawn chair across the snout of a very startled and offended dragoness. "Come. Flying. In here. Scaring. The shit. Outta. Me and. Yelling. For blood. You. Stupid. Bitch!"
The last was delivered with a solid strike against the side of the rather miniscule dragon's head. It sent the ebon-scaled female reeling and onto her side. Rain wasted no time in pinning her to the ground with a boot against the base of her head, just behind the jaw, a very sensitive spot for dragons. She glared around at the kobolds who stood ringing the pair, as if she expected them to interfere on behalf of one or the other. The attendants knew better than to get themselves tangled in a fight between two females, but they were spared the human matriarch's wrath when she caught sight of Revakulgr.
"Who the fuck is this?" she demanded, jabbing a pointed finger dangerously close to the cowed dragoness's fearfully wide eye. "Why is she demanding that I fight her? Why is she saying that you owe her or she owns you or some shit, I wasn't really in the mood to figure out everything she was talking about, I don't care, what the hell is this all about?"
The dragon approached with all the dignity that he could muster considering the situation and sat with his tail curled about his feet, rearing his head up and back to show as much of his size and glory as possible. Quite formally and properly, he said, "Matriarch Rain, may I introduce Sethistra. My sister. I am certain that she would have given you warm greetings had she not rushed to attempt claiming, yet again, what is not hers to claim."
Rain stared at him for a moment, sputtered out several false starts, then just stared. "What? Wha- ... Okay, sister. Sure. Little sister? You only ever mentioned the one clutch."
"Yes, sister, and a clutchmate, hatched at the same time I was. She is... I believe the human term is 'runt' for particularly small ones? She is a runt, and I assure you that my other sisters are quite a bit larger. She is also an extreme pest and annoyance."
Sethistra began to speak, but Rain turned her glare on the female, who shut her mouth in a hurry and gulped. Revakulgr had to turn laughter into a coughing sneeze once more. It was far more amusing to see that vicious look turned on someone else than to have it directed his way. "She said something about claiming you and taking you as her mate and... you owing her...?"
"As a runt, she has no personal prospects that were her right by birth, and she has never sought to alter her status and station in life. Instead, she plays the pathetic weakling and flits between our siblings to beg succor and nourishment, bleeding them like a parasite until they tire of her, and she flies to another. No doubt, hearing of our most recent windfall, she came to try and lay claim to me, thinking that she was facing off against some pitiful human that I just happened to have taken a fancy to. But, no, my dear, small sister was mistaken. She came facing a Matriarch, fully fledged and vested, and she has been fairly beaten in the bargain. Shall I kill her for you, or would you prefer the pleasure? I would not deprive you, my love."
Rain's expression went through several spasms, her hands clenching and swishing through the air, multiple lines of thought crashing against one another in an almost visible train wreck as she fought through the clashing mores and standards of her upbringing and what she knew of draconic etiquette. Finally, her expression settled and she took a deep breath.
"Okay, so I beat her, obviously," and she glared down at the fallen female, daring her to disagree, "so that means she's mine to do with as I want, right? Kill her, eat her, maim her for life, whatever, right? Okay. And I know it's not official, but I keep hearing it said that I'm not going to be considered a real matriarch until I've officially won a challenge, because any male worth claiming is worth being claimed by more than one female. Which means that I need to keep her around and keep her visible and make sure every other dragon bitch on the block knows that I'm not just some human fucktoy and that I'm not fucking around. Okay. So... Rev? Wanna do me a favor, and I'll love you for life?"
"Don't you already, and don't I always?"
"Okay. Deal with her. Just... whatever you think is appropriate. Handle this for me how a dragon should handle it, because I really don't think I'm gonna be able to do it myself. She can stay, I guess. Don't kill her. And now I've got her beat, she... basically belongs to me, so... yeah, she can stay, if she'll behave herself. We do need someone besides the little guys to look after the kids, so she can do that. If she does decide to misbehave and does something to one of the kids, though, I will turn her in-the fucking-side out pesonally, and that's a promise."
The last was directed at the downed female, who flinched in response but made no comment otherwise. Revakulgr rumbled in approval and stepped over to pin his sibling, waiting until Rain was well inside the house and out of sight and hearing before he growled down at his sibling.
"Speak one word," he warned, "and I'll rip out your tongue and remove your jaw. You are nothing here. You are less than the kobolds. If they choose to debase themselves by using you for their pleasure or entertainment, then you will oblige. You will finally get what you wished for, dear sister. You will be cared for so long as you shall live, forevermore, but you will be paying the price for that every day hereafter. I'm going to do what should have been done to you long ago, but in the most loving of manners. You were never a dragon, and you no longer shall be one. But I'm still going to give you that other thing you wanted. I'm going to fill you with clutch after clutch after clutch until either I get tired of you or you're too loose for it to be worth doing any more. And every time you lay, I'm going to watch you eat them one by one. I do so hope you enjoy your stay with us, sister."
Sathistra gulped and whimpered. Revakulgr grinned down at her in the way that made prey tremble so deliciously. Sethistra trembled. The kobolds watched, eager to take their turns with the new plaything, but respectful of his priority to abuse her. He took great pleasure in stamping his talons between the female's shoulders and hearing her shrieks of agony as he wrenched her wings from their sockets before peeling them back along her sides to shred the membranes. He cast those aside to feed her later. She would eat when he was done with her. Well, once the kobolds were done with her. It wasn't often that they were able to indulge their dominance over anything, and he had seen them become quite vigorously insistent when allowed. She was about the same size as that gryphoness that he kept meaning to get the name of, small but not so small as to break when he hiked her rear up and impaled her on his maleness. She was quite a bit tighter though, having never been bred or even so much as sniffed at by a male. Entirely aside from the sexual satisfaction of breeding the mewling little hen, it was quite a pleasure to finally know that she'd never be bothering him again. He would need to tell their mother the story.
