the Galar Chronicle - the Journey Begins [chapter 4]
Hop and Danimus must get endorsed by Leon before they can join the Gym Challenge
And with that, the 1st arc of the Galar Chronicles is complete. But stay tune for the next arc, the Challenge Begins!
LAST TIME: After receiving the Pokédex from Sonia, Danimus and befriend three new Pokémon: Conner the Rookidee, Vixen the thieving Nickit, and Bolt the noble Yamper. With these new friends, Danimus heads off to catch up with Hop and hopefully convince Leon to endorse them for the Gym Challenge...
After catching and befriending 3 new Pokémon and having a quick snack, Danimus and Cinder continued their journey towards Professor Magnolia's house, battling various trainers along the way. As they approach the building, they see Hop and Wooloo standing at the gate closest to the house.
Hop: Hey, you guys!
Danimus: How's it going, Hop?
Hop: Look! There's the professor!
Looking ahead, they see Leon speaking with an elder woman with brown hair and green eyes wearing a yellow dress under a white lab coat. She has a cane with a wooden Rookidee as its handle, a pair of glasses over her eyes that also wraps around her neck, a necklace, and a purple hairband. It's clear to the young trainers and Pokémon that this woman is Professor Magnolia.
Leon: So, have you unraveled all the secrets of the Dynamax phenomenon yet?
Magnolia: Oh goodness, no. The whole thing is still full of questions. I'd hoped that my granddaughter would take over my research, but…*noticed Danimus, Cinder, Wooloo, and Hop by her gate* Dear me, I'm sorry. I didn't even notice my guests!
Danimus: It's okay. Me and Cinder had just arrived.
Magnolia: My name is Magnolia. Welcome, young trainers! Now come, let's head indoors.
Following the professor, the group enters her house and make their way towards the kitchen.
Magnolia: Why, Hop dear. I see Wooloo has made some new friends
Hop's Wooloo: Yep!
Magnolia: *looks at Danimus* And you must be Danimus.
Danimus: You know about me?
Magnolia: Indeed. I trust you received the Pokédex from Sonia.
Danimus: That's right.
Magnolia: Then you must already know about Dynamaxing, right, Danimus?
Danimus: Just some of the basics.
Leon: Professor Magnolia's been doing research into both the Dynamax phenomenon and the Pokémorph Factor for years and years! And it takes a proper understanding of the thing if you plan to use Dynamaxing to the fullest!
Magnolia: There you go again, Leon, always talking about Pokémon. There are other things that are worth knowing about, too, you know. Like how many different types of tea there are!
Cinder: Actually, I'm curious about those Dynamax and Pokémorph things that you mentioned.
Magnolia: Of course, you are, young one. I'll tell you more about the Dynamax phenomenon later, but I believe you and your trainer should learn more about the Pokémorph Factor Leon mentioned. You see, the Pokémorph Factor is a very special genetic condition that certain Pokémon are born with. There is still much of the factor that is still quite unknown to us. What we do know is that while it has no effect on a Pokémon's stats, ability, or move pool, it is responsible for the increased levels of intelligence and sentience of the affected Pokémon.
Danimus: Is that why Cinder and the others can talk?
Magnolia: That's right, or more accurately, it's the reason why young and wild Pokémon can talk. Pokémon caught by trainers can learn to speak with enough interactions. There are also other effects the factor in induce, though those aren't usually present until a Pokémon reach their final evolved form. After that, the Pokémon will gain anthropomorphic qualities, hence the “Pokémorph" Factor.
Cinder: Like Leon's Charizard?
Charizard: That's right. There's another effect to the factor, but I think that should go unspoken for now.
Hop: Hey, professor, do us a favor, would you? Help me convince Lee he should endorse us for the Gym Challenge!
Danimus: Doesn't beat around the bushes, does he? Just as well, I'd almost forgotten why we're here.
Magnolia: Oh Leon, why wouldn't you endorse them?
Leon: Hop and Danimus only just started out as Pokémon trainers. There's still loads they don't know yet!
Magnolia: Dearie, I thought your dream was to have everyone in the Galar region become strong trainers. Isn't that right?
Charizard: She ain't wrong, Leon.
Leon: …That's true. That goal's precisely the reason why I gave them both Pokémon, in fact. Hmm… *starts thinking before turning back to the two trainers* Right, then. In that case, how about this? Let's see if the two of you can show me such a brilliant battle that I'm left with no choice but to endorse you.
Danimus and Hop: Right!
Leon: And don't worry. I'll make sure both of your teams are in good shape before the battle starts.
After having their Pokémon healed, the two trainers follow Leon and Professor Magnolia outside to the battle court. The sun has begun to set, but both trainers were eager for a battle.
Hop: I'm going to become the greatest Pokémon trainer there is! And to do that, I need that endorsement to take part in the Gym Challenge! So, come at me with everything you have so we can prove to Lee that we've got what it takes!
Danimus: Of course! But don't expect me to lose, either!
Magnolia: I'm rather interested in seeing how you two younger trainers battle, too.
Leon: Listen, you two. The reason I'm unbeatable is because I learn from every battle I see or take part in. That's how I've gotten to where I am today. So, show me something good in this battle!
Hop: Alright! It's time for my legend to begin! Wooloo, let's go!
Hop's Wooloo: Right!
Hop's Wooloo jumps onto the battle court.
Danimus: Let's do this, Cinder!
Cinder: *jumps onto the battle court* Right!
Hop: Have you gotten a bit stronger? Me and my team will put you to the test and see! Use Tackle!
Hop's Wooloo: Here we go! *begins charging at Cinder*
Danimus: Cinder, dodge and use Double Kick!
Cinder tries to dodge the oncoming Pokémon, but Wooloo has gained a bit more speed since last time and managed to land the Tackle attack.
Hop: Look's like Wooloo has gained a bit more speed, huh, Danimus?
Danimus: Yep, she's faster now, but is she tougher than before? Only one way to find out. Use Ember!
Cinder: *launches the Ember*
Hop: Jump over the flames, Wooloo!
At his command, Wooloo jumps over the Ember move, unaware that she'd fallen into Danimus' trap.
Danimus: Got you now! Cinder, use Double Kick!
With that, Cinder lands 2 powerful kicks on Wooloo, the last hit dealing critical damage. As the 2 Pokémon lands to the ground, Wooloo is revealed to still be standing.
Hop: Nice!
Danimus: Guess she's tougher too, huh, Cinder?
Cinder: Yeah.
Hop: Now use Defense Curl!
Hop's Wooloo: Roger! *curls up and boosts her defense stats*
Hop: Follow it up with Tackle!
Danimus: Oh no you don't! Use Ember!
Cinder launches several Ember moves on Wooloo, who managed to evade all but the final Ember attack. But Wooloo managed to endure the attack and lands the Tackle on Cinder.
Hop: Ha! Looks like your tricks won't work this time!
Danimus: …In that case, Cinder, take five!
With that, Cinder returns to Danimus' side as he pulls out another Poké Ball.
Danimus: Go, Vixen! *tosses a Poké Ball towards the battle court, releasing the Fox Pokémon*
Hop: So, you've managed to catch some new Pokémon, huh?
Danimus: Yep!
Hop: Then let's see what you can do! Wooloo, use Growl!
Danimus: Vixen, use Quick Attack to dodge it!
Wooloo begins growling at Vixen, but she managed to evade the move with Quick Attack
Danimus: Now use Tail Slap!
Vixen nods at the request before striking Wooloo 5 times with her tail.
Danimus: Now use Leer!
Vixen: *gives Wooloo a glare* You're defenseless now, lovely!
Hop: What?! Vixen can talk, too?!
Danimus: Yep. Her and another Pokémon on my team.
Hop: Sweet! But don't think you've won yet! Use Tackle!
Hop's Wooloo: Got it! *begins rolling towards Vixen*
Danimus: Counter it with Quick Attack
Vixen began charging towards Wooloo at high speed. After the two moves collided, it's revealed that while Vixen had taken a critical hit, Wooloo was KO'ed by the attack.
Leon: Wooloo is unable to battle! Vixen wins the match!
Hop: Aw, man. *returns Wooloo to her Poké Ball* Didn't think that Quick Attack would do that much damage.
Danimus: Well, it helps that Vixen knows Leer. Thanks to that, Wooloo's defense power was lowered enough to be taken down by that Quick Attack. Not that Vixen came out of that uninjured. Doing okay, Vixen?
Vixen: Y-yeah. That clash did more than I thought.
Hop: *readies a Poké Ball* I see. In that case, you're up next, Rookidee!
Hop precedes to toss a Poké Ball towards the battle court, releasing a Rookidee.
Danimus: Think you can keep battling?
Vixen: Yeah. I can keep going.
Danimus: In that case, use Quick Attack!
With that, Vixen began rushing towards the Rookidee at high speed.
Hop: Use Leer!
Hop's Rookidee managed to glare at Vixen and lower her defense power before Vixen landed the Quick Attack.
Danimus: Use Tail Whip!
Hop: Not so fast! Use Fury Attack!
Before Vixen could do anything, the Rookidee begun pecking furiously at Vixen, the attack taking heavy tolls on Vixen.
Danimus: Quick, Vixen! Use Tail Slap to knock them away!
Vixen then precedes to knock the Rookidee away, landing 3 hits in the process. It was clear, however, that Vixen had taken a lot of damage.
Hop: Now use Peck, Rookidee!
Hop's Rookidee rushed towards Vixen, its beak glowing as it collides with Vixen, knocking her out.
Leon: Vixen's unable to battle! Rookidee wins the match!
Danimus: *runs towards Vixen* Vixen! Are you okay?
Vixen: *weakly* I-I'm fine. Just a w-wounded pride.
Danimus: Well, take a good rest. You've earned it. *returns Vixen to her Poké Ball* Good work, Hop! It's clear that your Rookidee has been treated well.
Hop: Of course! You're looking at the next champion!
Danimus: *readies another Poké Ball* Maybe, but right now, you're looking at my next Pokémon! Go, Bolt!
Danimus toss another Poké Ball towards the battle court, releasing a battle-ready Bolt.
Hop: You managed to catch a Yamper, huh? Still won't stop me! Rookidee, use Peck!
At that command, the Rookidee begins charging at Bolt.
Danimus: Bolt, dodge it and use Nuzzle!
Bolt managed to avoid the Peck attack and was able to rub his cheek against the Rookidee, paralyzing it in the process.
Danimus: Now use Spark!
Bolt: You got it! *begins charging a bit of electricity before running towards Rookidee*
Hop: Quick! Dodge it!
Hop's Rookidee attempts to avoid the attack, but the paralysis afflicted on it stunted its movement just long enough for Bolt to land his Spark attack and knock it out.
Leon: Rookidee is unable to battle! Bolt wins the match!
Danimus: Good work, Bolt!
Hop: *returns Rookidee* Nice comeback, Danimus. It'll be a close one! *Ready another Poké Ball* But that's exactly my sort of match! Go, Grookey!
Hop toss his final Poké Ball toward the battle court, releasing Grookey.
Bolt: I don't think my electric attacks could do much damage, Danimus.
Danimus: That's okay, Bolt. You've done a great job already. Return. *returns Bolt to his Poké Ball before pulling out another one* Okay, Conner! It's your turn!
Danimus tosses his next Poké Ball, releasing Conner the Rookidee into the battle.
Hop: Use Growl!
Danimus: Quick Attack!
Using Quick Attack, Conner managed to avoid the Growl and deal some damage towards Grookey.
Danimus: Now use Peck!
Hop: Counter it with Scratch!
With that, the two Pokémon begins attacking each other with flurries of Pecks and Scratches. Despite the type advantage, Grookey's longer training meant that it was on equal footing with Conner.
Leon: Impressive. If this keeps up, I might join in on the action.
Charizard: One can feel the fires of excitement in this battle!
Danimus: Switch to Pluck!
Hop: Dodge it!
Conner's beak glows as he charges at Grookey who attempts to dodge it. Despite only grazing the monkey Pokémon, the Pluck was able to do some damage.
Hop: Have a taste of our true power! Our green power just keeps on growing stronger! Grookey, use Branch Poke!
Whipping out the branch from its head, Grookey managed to land a critical hit on Conner.
Danimus: You're okay, Conner?
Conner: *chirps a bit weakly*
Danimus: *pulls out Conner's Poké Ball* Take a break, Conner. You've earned it. *returns Conner to his Poké Ball* Ready, Cinder?
Cinder: Yep! *jumps onto the battle court*
Danimus: Use Ember!
Hop: Quick! Dodge it, then use Branch Poke!
Jumping high, Grookey avoided the Ember move and have dived at Cinder, its branch managed to do some heavy damage.
Danimus: Now use Double Kick!
Acting fast, Cinder launched Grookey away with two powerful kicks.
Danimus: Now for a taste of our fire power! Cinder, use Ember!
Cinder: Okay!
With that, Cinder launches a powerful Ember at Grookey, causing him to crash down fainted.
Leon: Grookey is unable to battle! Cinder wins and the victory goes to Danimus!
Danimus: Haha! Alright, Cinder!
Cinder: *runs towards Danimus* Yay!
Danimus: *laughs while holding Cinder up high*
Hop: Oof! Gutted that I lost, but I'd expect nothing less from my Rival! *returns Grookey to its Poké Ball* And I even got my Poké Ball throw perfect, too! *sighs* The sting of defeat and the joy of victory. I guess going through both is the key to the two of us getting stronger, right?
Danimus: Seems about right. *sets Cinder back on the ground before shaking Hop's hand*
Leon: *walks towards the duo* Danimus! Hop! Well, after seeing a match like that one, I suppose I've little choice but to give you both an endorsement as Champion! *gives the duo letters of endorsement*
Danimus: Alright! Thanks, Leon!
Hop: Yes! Thanks, Lee! I swear I'm going to win my way through the Gym Challenge to reach you!
Leon: You may both be young still, and plenty rough around the edges, but it was a proper battle. Charizard and I were both feeling the excitement in every last cell in our bodies!
Charizard: No doubt about that!
Leon: *looks towards Hop* Hop, you've always tended to get caught up in things like how you throw your Poké Ball out. Things that have nothing to do with real strength. Honestly, I'd been worried about you still obsessing over that sort of nonsense, but it seems you really have grown a bit, little brother! *turns to Danimus next* And I'd like to see more thrilling Pokémon battles out of you, too, Danimus.
Danimus: Got it!
Hop: All right, Danimus! You and me are going to train up against one another to aim for that Champion's title! The more we keep battling against one another, the more our Pokémon will grow.
Danimus: *nods in agreement*
Cinder: *looks up* Huh? What's that?
The group turns their heads to see that Cinder had spotted something resembling a shooting star land nearby, splitting in two in the process. Hop, Danimus, and Hop runs over to see what they were.
Hop: *picks the items up* Danimus! Would you look at this? They're Wishing Stars! Since there are two of them, you should take one yourself! *gives Danimus a Wishing Star* With one of these, my Pokémon can Dynamax! They're gonna be massive! YES!
Leon: *walks over with Professor Magnolia* Trust you to pull something like this! They say Wishing Stars falls down for those who have a true wish in their heart, you know.
Hop: I will be the greatest trainer ever! I WILL be the greatest trainer ever! I WILL BE THE GREATEST TRAINER EVER!!! There! I've said it three times, so surely my wish will come true now, right?
Danimus: Wow. Hop is really dead sent on being the next Champion.
Magnolia: Don't be silly, Hop. Those Wishing Stars are composed of a curious sort of rock containing unknown power. They are one of the most precious resources we have here in the Galar region. But they won't do a thing for you in that state. Give them to me now, and I'll have you sorted.
Hop: Ah, right. You've done heaps of research on the Dynamax phenomenon, haven't you, Professor? Then please! Give Danimus and me the power to Dynamax our Pokémon! First, we got to battle against that mad Pokémon in the Slumbering Weald, and now this! It really feels like we're getting caught up in the adventure of a lifetime!
Magnolia: I do understand your excitement, young man, but don't get carried away. You want to save your energy for tomorrow's journey!
As Danimus and Hop gives their Wishing Stars to Magnolia, Sonia arrives to greet the group.
Sonia: Seems I came back home right in time for all the excitement! Hey, you lot, why not have some dinner. You must be hungry, right? I've been totally obsessed with making the latest trendy curries.
Danimus: Oh, sounds delicious, Sonia.
Cinder: I want to try it out, too.
Hop: Oh, yeah! It's curry time!
With that, the group then precedes heads back inside to try out Sonia's curry recipe for dinner. Afterward, Danimus and Hop decides to spend the night at the Professor's house to rest up and spend more time with their Pokémon. The next morning, the young trainers make their way towards the kitchen to meet up with Professor Magnolia and Sonia.
Hop: It's morning at last! And time for our adventure to truly start!
Danimus: You said it!
Magnolia: *turns toward the duo* Good morning to you, young challengers.
Danimus and Cinder: Good morning.
Sonia: Hey, guys, is it true you really met some Pokémon you didn't recognized? Is there anything more you can tell me about?
Hop: Er, well, there was weird heavy fog, and then this even weirder Pokémon appeared. Danimus tried to fight it off, but then I think we both passed out or something. It's all pretty hazy.
Cinder: Although we do know that “it" was a “she".
Sonia: Is that true?
Danimus: Yeah. And on top of that, she mentioned something about “All will be clear in time", but we still don't understand what that means.
Sonia: A right fount of information you guys are. But still, a strange Pokémon in the Slumbering Weald. I don't know why, but I've got an uneasy feeling for some reason.
Magnolia: Danimus, Hop, these are for you. *gives them Dynamax bands*
Danimus: *slips the Dynamax band on right wrist* Whoa. Are these-?
Magnolia: That's right. Those are your Dynamax bands. I made them by fitting the Wishing Stars found last night into those bands.
Danimus: Thank you, Professor Magnolia
Hop: Thanks, Professor! This is brilliant! It's just like the one Lee has on him, too. Now we can Dynamax our Pokémon like he does!
Magnolia: My word, you don't waste any time, do you?
Danimus: *gives an aside smirk* That's one way of putting.
Magnolia: I think you'll find it's not so simple as all that. There are a number of conditions you must meet if you hope to have your Pokémon Dynamax and take on that gigantic form.
Danimus: We understand, right, Hop?
Hop: Yeah, totally!
Magnolia: Now, don't be afraid to go to all sorts of places and meet all sorts of Pokémon.
Hop: The legend of my reign is finally about to begin! *turns to Danimus* Come on, Danimus! I'll beat you to the station! *runs ahead*
Danimus: *sighs* Here we go again! *runs outside to find Hop waiting near a patch of grass*
Hop: One last thing before we race, Danimus! See, I've got some great advice for you!
Danimus: Okay. *walks towards Hop*
Hop: You know how you can see Pokémon wandering out of the tall grass, yeah?
Danimus: That's right.
Hop: Well, if you move real slow like, and crouch down, those Pokémon won't pay you any notice. But on the other hand, if you whistle at them, you'll be sure to catch their attention! So try it out, and let's see who can catch the most Pokémon, Danimus!
Danimus: Got it!
Hop: *turns around* You remember Wedgehurst Station, right? Where we went to pick up Lee before.
Danimus: Yes. Yes I do.
Hop: That'll be the goal, so see you there! *runs off*
Danimus: Hey!
With that, Danimus and Cinder heads back to Wedgehurst. Along the way, Danimus catches a Caterpie, which was glowing and holding something at the time, and a Wooloo that was rolling around Route 2 causing trouble, both of which Danimus decides to put in his PC box where he learned that Hop haven't arrived yet. After arriving at Wedgehurst Station, he sees a slender, pink haired girl with blue eyes and a mole looking at a nearby poster. She is wearing pink lipstick and eye shadow as well as a wildly, unique outfit consisting of a white coat, a white & blue moth like bow, and a dark purple & green uniform.
Girl: *lightly sings to herself*
Cinder: Who's that?
Danimus: Don't know. Haven't really seen her.
Cinder: Do you think she's taking the Gym Challenge, too?
Danimus: I don't think so.
Conductor: The train to the Isle of Armor has arrived. Those with an Armor Pass, please board the train. *noticed the girl walking towards him* Do you have an Armor Pass?
Girl: Hee hee! Of course! I totally have one! *pulls out her Armor Pass*
Conductor: Please allow me to check your pass.
At that moment, a pink Pokémon with a yellow forehead and yellow tipped tail appears from the train, stopping at the gate.
Girl: Oh, a Slowpoke!
Conductor: *annoyed* Uh-oh, looks like another one's gotten on the train and ridden over from the Isle of Armor.
Cinder: “Another one"? How often does this happens?
Danimus: A Slowpoke? *pulls out Rotom Phone*
Rotom Phone: This species of Pokémon is not found in the Galar region and cannot be identified. Please update your Pokédex.
Danimus: “Not found in Galar"? What does that mean?
Conductor: I can answer that. This is a Galarian Slowpoke, a pure Psychic-type Pokémon not found in Galar proper, but rather on the Isle of Armor. You can update your Pokédex there, although you would need an Armor Pass to get there.
Danimus: Huh? Learn something new every day.
Conductor: Say, you're a new trainer preparing to take on the Gym Challenge, am I correct?
Danimus: Yes, that is correct.
Conductor: If Slowpoke blocks the ticket gate, it'll cause trouble for other customers. Slowpokes are actually pretty heavy, so, do you think you could catch it for me?
Danimus: I'll do what I can. *pulls out a Poké Ball* Vixen, I choose you! *toss a Poké Ball, releasing Vixen*
Vixen: How can I shine today?
Danimus: Use Tail Whip!
Vixen precedes to wiggles her tail at Slowpoke, reducing its defense stats. In response, the Slowpoke just vacantly stares at Vixen
Vixen: Creepy.
Danimus: Now use Tail Slap!
Complying to the request, Vixen lands 5 hits on the Slowpoke, who once again stares vacantly at Vixen.
Vixen: This guy is really giving me the creeps!
Without warning, the Slowpoke creates a giant wave behind it, dealing massive damage to Vixen.
Girl: What the-?!
Conductor: That was Surf!
Danimus: Vixen! Are you okay?
Vixen: *shakes her head* I'm fine. It's a good thing Cinder is not fighting this creep.
Cinder: Yeah.
Slowpoke: *forehead glows blue as it charges at Vixen*
Danimus: Vixen! Counter it with Quick Attack!
Vixen: You got it! *begins charging at Slowpoke at full speed*
Girl: Wait! That Slowpoke is using Zen Headbutt, a powerful Psychic-type move!
Despite the girl's warning, Vixen still charged at Slowpoke, colliding with the Zen Headbutt and, to the girl's surprise, overpowered it.
Girl: Huh? What happened?
Conductor: Zen Headbutt is, as you've stated, a Psychic-move, but a Nickit is a Dark-type Pokémon, meaning that they're immune to Psychic-types.
Danimus: That's not all! It also means that they're super effective against Psychic-types! Use Thief!
Glowing darkly, Vixen charged at the Slowpoke, dealing critical damage but not knocking it out.
Danimus: Now it's my turn! Go Poké Ball!
Danimus tosses an empty Poké Ball at the Slowpoke, swallowing it up and bobbing about for a bit before the capture is confirmed.
Danimus: And with that, we've made another new friend. Great job, Vixen. Take a nice nap. *returns Vixen to her Poké Ball before picking up Slowpoke's*
Conductor: Thanks much! Slowpoke can be a big trouble to move sometimes.
Girl: Wow! Amazing! The way you caught that Slowpoke was the absolute coolest.
Danimus: Um, thanks.
Conductor: We apologize for the wait. We have checked your Armor Pass. All aboard the train to the Isle of Armor. Mind your step when boarding. Please be aware that there will be a connection along the way.
Girl: Okaaay. *turns to Danimus* I'm heading to a place called the Isle of Armor. I'm gonna catch some rare Pokémon and do some training.
Danimus: That sounds pretty cool. I'm about to enter the Gym Challenge.
Girl: Neato! Let's hang if we meet up again, 'K? Bye-bye, then! See ya! *boards the train which then departs*
Cinder: What a strange girl.
Danimus: Hmm… Come to think of it, we never got her name.
Cinder: Oh yeah! Well, I'm sure we'll run into her again, right?
Danimus: We're gonna need an Armor Pass, first. But that can wait. For now, we have another train to board.
Hop: Hey! *runs towards them*
Danimus: Hey, Hop! What happened to you?
Hop: I caught a new Pokémon. It was surprisingly skittish. But I also almost forgot to give you this! *gives Danimus a disk*
Danimus: What's this?
Hop: That's a technical machine! A TM, mate! With a TM like that, you can teach your Pokémon a new move in a flash, and you can use them again and again, too.
Danimus: Wow! That's pretty handy!
Hop: That one can teach the move Swift. Lee gave it to me ages ago, and now it's yours.
Danimus: Thanks, Hop.
Hop: No problem, mate! Anyway, the Gym Challenge will begin in Motostoke! And out train's waiting, so let's go!
Danimus: Right!
Helen: Not quite so fast, you lot.
Danimus: Huh? *noticed Mary and Helen approaching them* Mom?
Hop: What're you doing here, Mum?
Helen: I knew this day was coming since the moment you chose Grookey as a partner, darling.
Mary: Professor Magnolia was also kind enough to let us know that you two were setting out. So here-a last little gift to see you well set on your way. All the kit you'll need for camping!
The two mothers each gives their sons camping gear so that they could set up camp with their Pokémon. They also gave them some packed lunches for their journey.
Danimus: Wow! Thanks, mom!
Cinder: Thank you!
Mary: You're welcome, dearies. But just remember-no matter what happens out there, if you and your partner are together, I know you'll be fine.
Hop: Thanks, Mum. And just think how lucky you are-mother to the first ever pair of Champion brothers because I am certain to be the next Champion! You'll see!
Helen: Of course, you will be, darling. Anyway, do have fun and take care of yourselves! You'll be welcome back home anytime!
Danimus: Welp, we're off!
Hop: Wish us luck! Not that we'll need it. *turns to Danimus* There are loads of brilliant trainers and all kinds of Pokémon out their waiting for us! My excitement's running ahead of me even faster than that train can go, Danimus!
Danimus: *chuckles as he daydreams about Hop outrunning a train in sheer excitement*
Hop: Come on! Let's go!
With that, the duo bid their mothers good-bye and boarded the train that will take them to the Wild Area. From there, the journey can truly begin.
To be continued in the next arc
*NEXT TIME: * After arriving to the Galar Wild Area, Danimus decides to do some exploring
