(TSWC) Entry: Voracity
#6 of The Sins We Carry
In this chapter, Solrent and Rex return with Gael after their encounter in the harbor's cave. Gael departs with the party after completing his mission. Solrent and Rex visit Smith, who has loaned them some equipment, such as a new spear that Solrent can use while he fixes his previous one. They were asked by Smith to help find his missing partner who was last seen heading west. Faladiel spoke with our duo and he informed them that the next encounter will be west in the desert town. Will our duo find what they are looking for in this desert town, or is everything truly a mirage, an illusion meant to trick the mind.
Author's Note: This one is my longest one yet. I apologize for the content in this chapter, but it helped build the foundation for the next entry, especially involving Rex. And also, I like to give my NPCs a bit more love, particularly the brothers. You can obviously tell which of the brothers is my favorite in this one :p. Thank you all again for reading, and see you guys in the last 2 entries.
The Sins We Carry
Entry 6: Voracity
From where we last left off, Solrent and Rex were tasked with defeating the next brother in a cave. Along the way, an adventuring lizardfolk by the name of Gael accompanied them as they journeyed deep inside. There, they discovered that other townsfolk were held captive by the evil brother. They were turned into slime dragons, to do the bidding of both Zain and his Master. Even though Gael was captured and Rex was soon to be next, Solrent found a hidden power deep within him. With the help of both Rubrum and Emmerette, Solrent was able to access his newfound power and defeat Zain. The slime dragon that Solrent faced was named Smith, and he thanked them all for rescuing his team. Now, the three head back to the guild to see what next enfolds them.
Our party managed to leave the cave by the port and head back to town. Along the way, they found some rather kind merchants who sold them cheap clothes due to their current predicament. Once they arrived back at the town square, Gael addressed the party.
"Well, that sure was an adventure you guys. I truly enjoyed my time with you, but I need to go turn this thing in." Gael brought out the wakizashi and twirled it in his hands.
"Oh? Leaving already Gael? I thought maybe you would want to join Sol and I for a little bit more."
"I'm good Rex. I mean, after that ordeal, I think I may take a break for a bit. That sure was traumatic with what happened there. I may just head back to my village and spend some quality time with Vyth. Seeing how you two are so close with each other, and especially with how Solrent is protective of you, it makes me want to see Vyth again."
"We understand. Right Rex? We don't want to hold him with our party for too long. And besides, every time someone joins us, weird stuff always happens. I am sure Vyth does miss you, but..." Solrent reached out to shake Gael's hand. "...until we meet again then Gael. Good luck on your travels.
Rex reached out with his hand as well. "Maybe not tell every little detail to Vyth about what happened. Not sure how he will handle that sort of stuff on your adventures."
Gael nodded his head and shook Solrent's and Rex's hand. "My pleasure. Was fun hanging around with you guys. And of course Rex, I'll only tell some details, haha. Till we meet again, see ya guys." Gael bowed and waved goodbye to Solrent and Rex, disappearing in the distance.
Solrent looked over to Gael and smiled. "So, let's just check in with Faladiel to ask for some time off again, and also, we should check out Smith's shop. I wonder what stuff he has."
"Sounds like a plan. I think we do deserve some rest after all of that. We have five of the gemstones in our possession now. So close to our end goal."
Solrent patted Rex on the shoulder. "I agree, just two more and we can finally defeat this mad king guy."
Our party headed back to the guild and checked in with Faladiel. He was rather impressed that the two came out unscathed, or at least on the surface. Solrent avoided telling all the details that happened inside the cave, but mentioned enough to him that there was indeed a brother and they were able to eliminate him and obtain his stone, the Tanzanite. Solrent asked Faladiel if they could take a few days off before heading off to the next brother, which Faladiel happily obliged to. Solrent and Rex headed upstairs to their room, freshened up in the showers, before plopping onto their beds and passing out the rest of the day.
For the next few days, Solrent and Rex relaxed around time, visiting the various shops in the merchant district and even heading into the library. While Rex was trying to find a book on learning new spells, Solrent browsed through the shelves to see if he could learn more about what happened to him. He knew something changed within him, and it had to do with having the three gemstones in his position. From what he was able to read, he learned that for dragonewts to breathe fire, only a select few have the innate ability to do so. And this is from birth, nothing that can be acquired as time passes on. He also tried to look more into his other powers, especially with how he feels more at one with using a lance. From what he can gather, not many fighters specialize in using only the lance. You do have your typical jousters who ride on horses and spearmen as well, but for him, he feels like he is more of a unique one in itself. In deep thought, Rex wandered over and saw that his partner was very interested in the book he was reading.
"Hey Sol, what you got there? I've never seen you so interested in a book like that before."
"Don't be mean Rex. Just because I am more brawn than brain, doesn't mean I don't know how to read. Jerk."
"I'm just jesting, but in all seriousness, what are you reading over there? I haven't found anything useful in regards to the brothers, but I do see some cool spells I wish to learn. And also, there is this kind of magic called, arcane magic. It looks to be a bit more of the dark arts kind of stuff, you know like very old magic. I am very interested in learning about that."
"Oh, that sounds awesome. Maybe you will be able to cast some of those spells one day. But I am just reading about my class in general. I don't think I am a battlemaster anymore, and from what I can read, there is this rare class called, Holy Lancer, that just specializes in using only spears and has some rather unique skills."
"Unique skills? Like what exactly?"
"Well, I already know jump, which is one of my signature moves, but there is this skill called, Impale, which looks to be a rather dexterous attack. It is supposed to be some swift stabs followed by a pirouette. Not sure exactly what it actually does, but it seems to deal a lot of damage."
"Ooo, I am interested in seeing you dance, especially with the two left feet you got there."
"Oh shut up, Rex."
"Hehe, anyway, can't exactly do anything stabbing without a spear right?"
"Oh, that is true. But wait, I think we should go visit Smith, he did say that after a few days, he should be set up back in his shop."
"Sounds like a plan, let's head on out then."
Solrent and Rex headed out of the library towards Smith's shop near the church. As they passed by the church, Solrent asked one of the sisters if Athena is around, but he was told that she had to leave momentarily, but will be back in a couple of days. A bit saddened, Solrent thanked the sister for her time and the two continued their journey to Smith. Once they arrived outside, they saw Smith working next to a furnace and a workbench, using a strong hammer to pound away at some steel. Smith looked up and wiped the sweat off of his head as he waved to our party.
"Hello there Smith, looks like you are back in business after that ordeal."
"Mmhmm, just doing my work here Solrent. I do miss working back in my shop. The sound of a hammer banging on steel is music to my ears. But I know you two are not here for just idle chit chat. So, come in, I have something that might interest you." Smith headed inside his shop, with Solrent and Rex following behind.
The two were amazed at the various wears that Smith had. Magnificent swords were placed carefully on the wall as displays, axes that looked sharp enough to easily slice a person in two hung above their heads. They even saw ranged weapons as well, with bows and crossbows showcasing their elegant design. Smith met them at the counter, where they even saw a huge maul that even Solrent would think was too heavy for him to hold. Seeing them eye his weapon, Smith chuckled and easily picked up the maul, showing the pair the perfect amount of craftsmanship that he put into making this weapon.
"Mmm, this girl sure is a beauty. My own personal preference for a weapon. It may look very dull and simple on the outside, but I have imbued a lot of magical properties into it."
"You sure have a lot of weapons here Smith, strange that Rex and I never came across this shop while we stayed here."
Smith shrugged his shoulders and said, "Well, it could be because we went missing in the cave some time ago and no one really bothered to come look for us. This is a big town after all and my shop is not the fanciest or well-known one compared to the others you see around here. I care more about the heart of the weapon, not what you see on the outside. Why have a weapon that you can't even use, if all it has are jewels along the hilt showcasing how much money you spent on a piece of junk."
"I'm with you on that Smith. With my spear you saw back there, it was my trusted partner, but I am a bit sad to see it a bit broken now." Solrent stared solemnly at the ground, a bit disheartened.
Rex gently patted Solrent on his shoulder. "It's alright Sol, I am sure we will find a replacement for you."
Solrent sighed heavily. "But I don't want a replacement weapon, this spear has been with me through all of our trials and tribulations. I just cannot part away with it."
Smith looked at the two and thought for a moment before he clapped his hands together to get their attention. "Tell you what guys, how about you let me work on your spear for you. It is the least I can do after you two rescued my crew and I. With your permission, I would like to work on your spear and see if I can give it more improvements so that holding it in your hand will feel like child's play."
"You can do that? What plans do you have exactly on my spear then Smith?"
"No need to worry. I will still keep it mostly the same. But..." Smith placed the sharp head on the counter. "...I plan on enforcing the steel here. Maybe add some new ore that my crew will get for me. And as for the shaft, I think I will replace the wood with another material that is not easily breakable and not too heavy to hold. I do want what is best for my friends."
"Aww, that is very kind of you. I am sure Solrent will appreciate anything you do for us, right Sol?" Rex nudged him on his side.
"I guess, I mean, with my recent change, it makes sense my weapon evolves with me too."
Smith smiled. "Then it has been decided. I will not let you two down, I am a master weaponsmith after all."
"Thank you Smith. Oh by the way.." Rex scanned the room. "Where is your crew? I did not see them outside nor are they in here from what I can see and hear."
"Oh them? They are back at the docks. Some of them are fishermen, so they are catching some fish for the guild while others are exploring the cave a bit more for precious materials for crafting. You'd be surprised to learn now that most of the seafood you eat at the guild comes from my team."
"Huh, I guess we never thought of that. Right, Sol?"
"True. Well, we thank you and your crew for that as well." Solrent bowed his head, followed by Rex.
Smith chuckled. "It's alright guys. I am happy that you guys enjoy the food we get for ya. And like I said, the thanks are all from me. But here..." Smith reached behind his counter and placed a rather wonderous spear in front of them. The spear looked to have a metal shaft, which started with a light aquamarine hue before becoming black towards the middle and turning back to the aquamarine. Towards the head, the spear had a metal axe like shape, with two blades on its side before forming a rather pointed tip. "...And this is one of my personal treasures. I call it the Wishblade."
Solrent gently ran his claws along the shaft and felt the hard metal brush against him. It felt like that of a dragon's scales. "Wishblade?"
"I know, I know. A very misleading name. It is not a sword, and yes it is a spear. I found this on my travels to a region named Tellius. I met a fellow master craftsman as well and we found a trove of weapons. This is one of them, and its name is the Wishblade." Smith gestured for Solrent to pick it up. "Go ahead, Solrent, give it a try. And Rex, I recommend you give your partner some room."
Rex nodded his head and stood far away. Solrent picked up the spear and was surprised at how light it was despite the heavy material. He placed one hand in the black portion of the shaft and held the spear forward, pointing it at Rex and Smith. Then, upon instinct, Solrent twirled the spear throughout his body, swinging it around him with such grace. He looked like a martial artist demonstrating to the crowd how to properly fight with a spear. After a few minutes, Solrent hit the bottom of the shaft against the floor and proudly looked at Smith and Rex.
Rex clapped his hands enthusiastically. "Whoa, where did you learn to do that Sol? That was amazing to watch."
Solrent nervously smiled, not knowing what just happened himself. "I honestly do not know. It just felt like the moment I held the spear in my hand, I just knew how to use it. Like the spear was guiding me into showcasing how powerful it is."
Smith nodded his head. "Hmm...that is what I thought."
Rex and Solrent looked at Smith inquisitively. "What do you mean by that? Does the spear have a mind of its own now?" Solrent looked down at the spear with a bit of hesitation.
"No, nothing of that sort. I mean, I personally believe all weapons do have some heart in them. But nothing to the point of where it is cursed and will control you. Well, at least this weapon is not one of those cursed ones. I just think the spear is calling out to you. It sees who you are Solrent and I guess it believes you know how to properly use it. The same goes with this bad boy." Smith brought out a rather intimidating axe. It had a golden handle and two sharp blades on its head. Smith easily held it up with one hand and twirled it in his grip. "This boy is called Urvan. I experienced the same as you when I first held this guy. But, I try not to use him too much, since my maul is still my best buddy for everything."
"I see, well then I honestly cannot take this weapon from you then. I would feel too nervous if something were to happen to it." Solrent placed the spear back on the counter, but Smith refused to let him.
"No, just think of it as a loan for now as I work on your spear for you. You do need a weapon after all. Just don't do anything too rash with it and it will be fine. I am sure the Wishblade will make sure of that. Oh and one more thing, here." Smith reached down from behind the counter and placed a rapier and a crossbow on the counter, followed by a quiver full of arrows. "I don't see any weapons on you Rex, so I thought this might be to your liking. I can see that you prefer the more magical approach, but when you run out of spells, this can help you in a pinch."
"Oh, you really do not have to, but I truly appreciate it. I usually have Solrent do all the fighting, but I guess this can help protect myself too when things do go bad." Rex reached over to the counter and grabbed the rapier into his hand. He flourished it a few times, getting a good feel of the weapon before stowing it away. He also grabbed the crossbow and dry fired it a few times to understand how it works before stowing it too. Rex lastly grabbed the quivers of arrows and swung it over his back. "Thank you once again Smith."
Solrent nodded his head and held the spear back in his hand before placing it on his back. "Thank you then Smith, I'll make sure nothing bad happens to it and I will guard it with my life, just like Rex here." Solrent looked down at Rex and smiled, patting him on his head.
Rex shook his head, pushing Solrent's hand aside. "Solrent, my shoulder is down here, please."
"Heh, sorry there buddy. Oh and Smith, do you happen to have any armor for us? It seemed to have melted back in the cave."
"Armor you say...well I am very limited in that. I am more inclined in making weapons, not armor. Yet, I do have some basic armor you guys can have. If only my business partner was here..."
"Hmm? Something the matter there?"
"Oh it's nothing much. I mean, my business is actually split between me and another artificer. She specializes in magical items and armor herself. The last I remember of her, she was heading west from here to look for some magical artifacts she can imbue in her gear. Between the two of us, we can supply any adventure with the proper gear they need to slay some dragons, heh."
"We're sorry about that. Maybe we can help find her for you."
"Ehh, I would appreciate that. Here, let me give you this first." Smith walked to his backroom, rummaged through his cabinets, before entering back in his shop with a set of steel armor for Solrent and comfortable bardic clothing for Rex. "It is not much, but it should suffice for now."
Solrent reached out and happily took the armor and placed it in his sack. "Thank you Smith."
Rex also reached out and placed his clothing on his person. "We appreciate the help."
"You guys sure like to thank everyone you meet, haha. But anyway, her name is Nino. And she is a lizardfolk. She is a rather peculiar one because she actually has hair, not like most others of her kind. Her base skin color is a mixture of blue and white. She also has a rather lime green colored hair and she tends to wear a purple cloak on herself. I assume she may have gotten into a bit of trouble and if you do see her, can you please bring her back."
"Of course. That is our duty as members of the guild. Even if this is not a formal request, we will do it anyway. Rescuing a friend is something we will always do, isn't that right, Sol?"
"Yeah. That is true Rex. We will find Nino for you Smith and will bring her back."
"Thank you guys, I'll be here working on your spear for you. I look forward to hearing good news."
Solrent and Rex bowed their heads and left Smith's store, heading back towards the guild. They quickly dashed upstairs to don on their new gear. The armor set for Solrent felt exactly the same as his last, but he felt more protected than before. The attention to detail on the armor ensured no nooks or crannies would penetrate him. Rex's clothing felt very comfortable for him. The silk shirt and pants allowed him to move around without issues and allowed for free motions with his arms, like he can cast a spell without any impediment. Once the two were set, they headed downstairs and met with Faladiel in the lobby.
Faladiel waved to the two as he brought out a map and laid it on the table, next to a sack of camping gear and other supplies. As they approached him, Faladiel smiled and clapped his hands together. "So, I have very, very good news for you two, and especially for you Rex."
"I assume you found out where the next brother would be and that the location may not start with the letter, C."
"That is correct, on both answers. I found your next location and luckily, it is not in a cave, quite the opposite actually." Faladiel circled the location with his finger. "To the west of us is another town located in the desert. Normally, no one really goes out there, since it has been abandoned for some time. However, some scouting parties have mentioned that there is a an arena in the area that recently drew some attention. It is our belief that one of the brothers is hiding in there."
"Oh a desert? Well at least it ain't a cave. I take anything over a cave; I'll even climb a mountain if it means no one near a cave."
"Heh, well, then you guys got this then. Oh, by the way, you look different Solrent."
"Well, you can say that. After what happened in the cave, I learned something really cool. Would you like to see?"
"Sure. What is it?"
Solrent looked to his sides and around him. No one was looking at them; everyone was too busy being drunk in the common areas or discussing their own personal plans for the rest of the day. Solrent gently inhaled a breath of air into his lungs, before exhaling, blowing a tiny bit of flame for Faladiel to see.
Astonished, Faladiel's eyes were wide opened as he quietly said, "Wait, when did you learn to do that?"
Solrent gave off a little cough and massaged his throat. "To be honest, it all occurred in the cave with the last brother. I just felt an overwhelming energy within me and then this happened."
"I see, well. That is really cool then Solrent. Just try not to light up your room okay? I don't have anything fireproof in there."
Solrent chuckled. "I'll try not to."
"And what about you Rex?"
"Nothing of the sort for me, Solrent was the one doing everything with the brother. I'm just always happen to support him, as best as I can."
"Well, you will get something special too I bet. But anyway, here." Faladiel handed the map to Rex. "It should be about a day or so to get there. Luckily it is all main road and you shouldn't have to encounter anything on your way. Even though no one heads to that town, the road there is still relatively kept well. Good luck you two and I cannot wait to see gemstone number six." Faladiel gave a curtsy bow and left back into his office.
Solrent and Rex gathered the rest of the supplies Faladiel has left for them and started their journey to the desert town.
The journey west proved simple like Faladiel said. They followed the road for most of the day, only taking short rests here and there to give their legs a breather. When nightfall started approaching, they realized that they were about two thirds of the way there and decided to set up camp. Solrent was on tent duty while Rex tended to the fire and started meal prepping for them.
"Hey Sol, you got anything in mind you want to eat today?" Rex rummaged through the sack and noticed that Faladiel packed them quite a feast. "Huh...it looked like Faladiel was not skimping out on the supplies today, he supplied us with a bunch of food. Like, the entire pantry is there." *grumble* Rex looked down at his belly, gently rubbing it. "I just want to cook all of the food right now..."
Solrent stood over and looked inside the sack, and noticed there was quite more food than last time. He then gently placed his hand on Rex's shoulder. "Hold on there you little glutton, I know you like cooking and eating food, but let's not blow all of this at once. Who knows what will happen in the desert town in terms of our rations. It could be deserted for all we know and this food may come in handy."
"Aww...alright Sol..., but what do you want me to make today?"
Solrent placed his hand and rummaged through the sack before pulling out a neatly wrapped whole chicken. "How about this?"
Rex looked at the chicken and unwrapped the coverings on it. He was amazed to see that it had been seasoned and stuffed, and all he had to do was just cook it. "Huh, I guess they really wanted it to be easier on us this time. From what I can tell, it looks like all we have to do is cook it."
"Well, then why don't you start then?"
"You read my mind." Rex prepared the pot on the fire, ensuring the wiring and rods were in perfect place to ensure it would not drop. Once that was done, Rex placed the chicken into the pot, added a little bit of broth, and closed the lid. "Well, that will take some time to get ready." Rex hovered over the pot and inhaled deeply, smelling the brothy aroma emanating from the lid. "In the meantime Sol...I have something I've been meaning to ask you."
Solrent tilted his head. "Hmm? What's up?"
"Well, what happened back with Zain and everything. What exactly occurred? I know I was busy doing my best to dodge the endless streams of tentacles coming my way, but once I got caught and saw you down, I thought we were done. And the next thing I knew, you can breathe fire. So, tell me what is up with that." Rex stared intently at Solrent, almost like that of an interrogation.
A bit surprised, Solrent had to ensure he would not inform Rex about speaking with Top, Emmerette, and Rubrum. "Oh...umm...well how do I put this..." Solrent scratched the back of his head as he contemplated on what to say. "In my eyes Rex, I saw you were in trouble and that I felt hopeless at the time to do anything. You were captured and probably about to be raped by Zain and his tentacle master. I was about to be fucked by the slime dragon. As I continued to just think about what I can do, I felt like I would give up. But then..." Solrent took a deep breath before continuing. "...In my mind, the only thing I thought of was protecting you. The desire to protect you and the spite I had towards Zain gave me the strength to overcome everything in front of me. I know it sounds cheesy and whatnot, but that is what happened. And I guess you can say that the gemstones that we accumulated so far, they bolstered my emotions."
Without blinking an eye, Rex slowly nodded his head. "Uh huh...well I know you aren't lying."
"Huh? Wait a second...did you honestly cast that spell on me?"
"Yes, yes I did Sol. And it's not that I do not trust you, I just want to be sure you are not trying to hide anything from me."
"What do you mean hide? I have nothing to hide?!? I swear, you are acting a bit paranoid right now."
"It's not that I am paranoid. It's just that I have been hearing things and I was wondering if you felt the same. Like, I don't know what it is, but I have this weird feeling that Spessart is following me around. And not like in a bad way or anything, just that his presence is a bit known to me. Could be because I am more magically inclined then you are. I was wondering if maybe Emmerette, Rubrum, and I guess Zain are around you. Hell, I wonder if Top even said something as well."
Solrent stood up in a serious manner, looking at Rex. "Look, I'm not trying to purposely hide anything from you. You should know me by now."
Rex closed his eyes and looked back at the pot and opened the lid. "Yeah, my bad Sol. I'm just a bit apprehensive right now...All this weird shit has been happening to me. From when we started to where we are now, a lot of stuff involved me. Not to take anything away from you though; it's just that I'm being pulled in many different directions and I just don't know how to deal with it. All I can say is that I do have you to thank though Sol. For always being there for me and ensuring my safety, so I truly appreciate that. And also..." Rex reached into his pocket and pulled out his stone. "...I guess Spessart is protecting me as well. I don't know why he would, but I just have this inkling that he does not want bad stuff to happen to me...to us..."
Solrent walked over and embraced Rex. "There there. Look, I know we have been through a lot, and there is more to come. That's just how our adventures are going to be. We just have to keep our head held high and just tackle all the obstacles in our way. I'll be sure to use my fire breath to burn away our foes and hopefully I can master this impale skill as soon as I can." Solrent looked down at Rex and smiled.
Rex looked up and smiled back. "Thanks Sol, I guess I got carried away there. I'm sorry."
"No need to apologize, it's all good."
"Heh, well the food should be ready soon. I'll finish the prep." Rex leaned up and quickly kissed Solrent on the cheek before tending to the food."
Shocked, Solrent gave off a little blush, surprised at what just happened. He placed his hand next to his cheek and looked at Rex, smiling a lot more as he walked over and sat down, watching him continue to prepare the meal.
Rex was a master at butchering the chicken. He dismantled it with ease, cutting the chicken into eight mirroring pieces: breast, wing, leg, thigh. He placed four pieces for himself and the other for Solrent. "Bon Appétit."
Solrent looked down at the food and saw how moist the chicken was. Though the skin may not be crispy like that of a fried chicken, the juices that soaked into it, along with the meat itself, packed so much flavor that he felt he was eating at a fine dining establishment back in town. Solrent devoured his pieces, bone and all, as he gently rubbed his stomach after the meal. He looked over at Rex, who gingerly ate his pieces and left the bones on his plate. "Man, the guys back there sure know what to prepare for us. That was one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I am glad you cooked it better."
"Heh, thanks for the compliment. I do feel at ease when I am in the kitchen. I just love food in general and cooking is an nice outlet for me."
"Well, maybe when we finish this quest, why don't you take some time to work with the kitchen staff back at the guild. I am sure Faladiel would appreciate it."
"Maybe...but what would you do then Sol?"
"Ehh, either hang out with Athena or maybe help out with Smith on our slow days. Who knows. But anyway..." Solrent stood up and stretched his arms, giving off a big yawn. "I think we should wrap up soon and head to bed. I am sure tomorrow is going to be quite an adventure for us."
Rex gave off a big sigh. "You did not have to say it like that, Sol. But I get what you mean. Here, let's pack up and call it a night. I'll cast alarm for us, though I don't think anyone will mess with us."
"Better safe than sorry though."
"True, but I cannot wait to learn Magnificent Mansion. Then we have nothing to worry about."
The two began clearing all of their plates and properly disposing of the garbage in the area around them. Once that was set, Rex cast alarm around them before heading into the tent. Solrent followed suit, heading into the tent as well as the two drifted off for the rest of the night.
The next morning, Rex slowly rose from his slumber and poked his head out of the tent. Seeing that nothing was disturbed since last night, he went over to Solrent and shook him awake.
"Rise and shine, let's pack up and start heading to the next town."
Solrent slyly opened one eye and looked at his partner before turning his head away from him, pulling the sheets up. "...5 more minutes..."
Rex shook his head. "Fine. I'll start packing up the other stuff then." He exited the tent and began cleaning up the area around them, dousing the fire and storing all of their supplies back into the sack.
After some time, Solrent emerged from his slumber, stretching his body as he stood up and yawned into the heavens above. "Mmm, that was a really good meal you cooked last night. I felt like I had a food coma."
"Heh, it was a nicely prepared poultry. But since I kind of eat a lot, I'm just used to it."
Solrent chuckled and rubbed Rex's belly. "For someone who eats a lot, you are rather slim. Where does it all go?"
Rex reached down and grabbed onto Solrent's hand and pulled it away. "It takes a lot of energy to put up with you. From casting spells and doing all the behind the scenes stuff, my metabolism is accelerated to keep up with my output."
Solrent gently whipped Rex with his tail. "Jerk, you don't have to say it like that. You make it sound like I don't do anything."
Rex stuck out his tongue. "I mean, all you do is, like I said before, precise pokey and exact stabby. And I guess you can include incinerating people as well."
"Well, it takes a lot to do all those things. Especially with the fire breathing. And when I learn my new skill, it'll be super swift stabby and perfectly precise pokey." Solrent brought out his clawed finger and pushed against Rex's forehead.
Disgruntled, Rex shook his head and started to unhitch the tent. "Whatever, just help me with this so we can go."
Solrent smiled and walked over to the tent, unhitching it as well. "Sure Mr. Bossy."
Rex rolled his eyes as the two finished putting the tent back into their supplies. Once everything was good to go, the two looked at each other and nodded their heads, heading westwards towards the desert town.
Along the way, nothing eventful occurs as the two continue walking on the road. Rex looked up at the sky, noticing the current position of the sun and was able to determine the time of day. As he was doing that, Solrent looked forward and saw some tarnished looking buildings in the distance.
"Hey Rex, I think we are here. Look."
Rex looked forward, and he too also saw what looked to be like buildings. "Hmm...I hope it is not a mirage. But I think we may have made it to the town. And it's only around noontime as well. So we are making good haste."
"Good, we can finally take a rest in the town. And hopefully, get out as soon as possible too. I don't do well in the desert."
Rex raised an eyebrow. "Really? That's funny coming from a fire breather who likes the heat now."
"Just because I am one with fire, does not mean I am one with dryness."
"Heh, I know, I know. But here." Rex tossed Solrent a sandwich he prepared before they left. "It's nothing like last night, but I have an inkling that we should at least be somewhat satiated before we head in. Who knows if we get thrown straight into a fight with a brother. We don't want to do that on an empty stomach."
Solrent easily caught it in midair before chomping down on it. "Good idea, from all the experiences we had dealing with the brothers, always expect the unexpected."
They eventually made it to the town, but were amazed at what they saw. The place looked to be uninhabited. All the buildings looked decrepit, like no one has even bothered to repair anything. They continued to wander throughout the place, seeing no signs of life at all. The fountain in the town square was dried up like a prune, no sign of any water having even existed in it at all.
"Hmm...I don't like this place at all, Sol. It feels like that weird place we visited back in town too, you know with Spessart."
"I get what you mean. But Faladiel said that he should be here...wait...do you hear that?"
Rex looked in the direction that Solrent was facing, straining his head towards the sound that his partner said. Eventually, he did hear a faint sound, like that of a raucous crowd. "Hmm...I do, I wonder what is going on?"
"Let's check it out, but prepare yourself Rex." Solrent slowly walked forward, bringing out his spear.
Rex nodded, holding onto the crossbow that Smith had given him, an arrow at the ready if need be. They continued towards the sound, checking their flanks and backs for any signs of possible danger. However, nothing was thrown against them, and they made it to the source unscathed. The two looked up and saw a huge building in front of them, with a metal gate as the entrance. A sign was held above the entrance and it read, "Arena Entrance".
"Huh, for a place that looked to be deserted, there seems to be a lot of noise. Oh look, the gate is slightly propped open Sol. Let's try and sneak inside."
Solrent agreed and they both made their way inside the arena. As they navigated through the hallways, the sounds they heard got louder and louder. Eventually, they saw an opening to what would be the center of the arena. The two walked through and saw a huge crowd encircling the entire place. Patrons were screaming and roaring, cheering on to what was going down below. They noticed people had money in their hands, like they were betting on something. Upon closer inspection, the two realized that a lot of these patrons were dressed in fancy garbs and robes, like that of nobility. Rex managed to walk up and speak with one of the patrons.
"If you don't mind, good sir, may I ask what is going on?"
The figure looked over at Rex, sizing him up and down. "Pssh, you must be new here. How did you even get in here?. I should call the guards..."
Rex shook his head. "Oh please don't do that sir, we are just passersby and were curious what was going on here. We don't want to cause any trouble."
"Hmm...fine. As long as you don't interrupt me again. But this is just an arena fight. We are betting on who will win the fight. Simple enough. Now, stop bothering me." The patron returned to look at the fight, cheering on loudly."
Rex showed a concerned face towards Solrent, not liking what is going on here. They both continued to watch the show. The combatants down in the main area continued to fight, exchanging blows. There were sounds of metal clashing against each other, as well as magical spells flinging here and there. Then, the two fighters stood on opposite sides of each other before charging one last time towards one another. A huge dust cloud formed when their bodies connected and once it was settled, one stood up, placing its foot on the other's head, claiming victory. The crowd erupted into both cheering and jeering, happy with the fight that just occurred. Rex looked back at the patron who was pumping his fist in the air.
"Heh, I knew I bet on the right person. That is easy money."
"Umm...sir?"
"Oh, you are still here? Heh, well since I won and all, I'm in a good mood. You got another question?"
"Yeah...who exactly runs this arena? I am just curious."
"Oh that, simple enough. Look over there, he's about to speak." The patron pointed his claws towards the opposite side of where they stood, into an alcove.
Out of the alcove emerged a rather chubby dragonewt. He looked to have a sort of darker blue coloring to his scales and he was adorned with rings in each of his clawed fingers. He wore a silk, black robe and opened his hands to address the crowd.
"And that concludes today's battles. Thank you for coming everyone, we thank you for your patronage. And also..." The chubby dragonewt immediately stared to where Solrent and Rex stood, and made eye contact with them. He gave off a slight smirk before returning to the crowd. "Tomorrow, we will have a rather special fight. So get your bets ready, who knows who will walk out a millionaire." And with that, the dragonewt turned away, heading back into his alcove.
The crowd cheered and applauded as the dragonewt left. They slowly rose from their seats, as Solrent and Rex noticed everyone slowly making their way towards the exit. The patron they were speaking with made a comment to them. "Heh, I wonder what the boss has in store for tomorrow. Hey you two, if I were you, I would do some research on who's fighting tomorrow. You can win big if you bet right." He then left after saying that.
Solrent and Rex looked at each other, confused about what just happened.
"So, I guess this is a fighting arena. And that these people are betting on the winners."
"Sounds like it, but did you see that dragonewt guy, he looked in our direction, like he knew we were here."
"Yeah, I did not like that Rex, something was very off about that."
"I agree, he focused his attention on me though, like he zoned in on only me. I think that is our guy though. He looked to fit the description of what we are targeting. And his scale color looks to be right, at least from what we know about the previous five."
"Let's leave before anything bad happens."
"Yeah, go ahead Sol, lead the way."
Solrent and Rex noticed that they were the last two in the arena's audience. As they made their way back to the hallways, they were stopped by some lizardfolk guards. Behind them, more guards showed up as well. The two looked at each other, knowing that if they were to make an escape, it could end badly and just stood still.
"You two, come follow us. The boss would like to speak with you."
They followed the guards, who led them into a rather secluded area within the arena. Eventually, they were at a heavily guarded door, with two guards flanking each side. The one who was escorting them nodded to the door guards, as they slowly opened the door for them. "Go on in, he'll be inside. And don't do anything silly. Or else you want to end up never leaving this town."
Solrent and Rex each took a deep breath before stepping through the door, unsure of what fate will have in store for them on the other side.
As they entered the room, the two were shocked at the display in front of them. A dragonewt was sitting in front of them, a table placed so carefully in front of the dragonewt. What was shocking to them, was the items placed on the table. Solrent and Rex have never seen such an extravagant array of food before. There was a roasted pig, peking duck, prime rib, lobster, crab, almost everything that would be a carnivore's dream. In addition, there were a bunch of side dishes as well, from mashed potatoes to a salad to finally some bread rolls and butter. The dragonewt was chomping away at the food, indulging in the feast in front of him. Once Solrent and Rex were just a few yards away from him, the dragonewt stopped consuming his food, picked up a towel to wipe his face and addressed the two.
"Welcome, welcome. I've been expecting you two, Solrent and Rex. Or should I say...my brother's keepers."
Solrent took a defensive stance, reaching for his spear, but the guards around him pointed their weapons back at him. Rex looked up at Solrent and nodded to him, which Solrent nodded back and eased his stance. Rex's gaze then went to the dragonewt and he said, "Yes. At this point, I assume everyone has pretty much told you about us two, and what we have done so far."
The dragonewt clapped his hand in applause. "That is right, and I know why you two are here. You have come for this, right?" The dragonewt reached behind him and pulled out a deep blue gemstone, a sapphire. "Well, I know you have the others, the Ruby, Spessartine, Emerald, & Tanzanite."
Rex noticed that the brother did not mention the Topaz. "That is right, we have those four, and we have come for your Sapphire."
The dragonewt tossed the jewel in the air before catching it back in his palm, placing it on the table in front of him. "Then, you know you have to "slay" me right?"
Solrent stepped in and said, "I mean, if you want to go that route, then yes. We have come to slay you and get the gemstone."
The dragonewt chuckled, shaking his head. "Heh, well, I'll give you that chance, but on only one condition."
"And that condition is?"
"Just win tomorrow's fight. And, according to the rules, you only have to participate in two fights. Win those two battles and I'll give you a chance to indulge in your desire to "slay" me. Just like I indulge in my delicate food here, I can sense your voracity within you, and especially you there." The dragonewt pointed at Rex. "I seemed to not have introduced myself yet, the name is Sapphy."
Sapphy
School of Illusion Wizard
Dragonewt
"Is that it then? We just have to win two battles and then we can fight you? If so, then Rex and I will agree to your terms then."
"Tsk tsk, well, let me interject real quick then. I never said it's a party fight, this is a fight only involving you." Sapphy picked up a chicken leg and pointed it at Rex. "Only he is allowed to fight."
Rex was a bit shocked hearing this, but Solrent stepped in front of Rex and placed his hand over him. "Whoa, what do you mean by only Rex is allowed to fight?"
"It's exactly as I said. Only Rex can fight. This arena is a pet fighting arena, and looking at the two of you, I am sure Rex is more of a pet than you are?"
Rex was shaken, the word pet never once crossed his mind. "I'm no one's pet. I'm my own person."
Solrent looked down at his partner and saw him acting nervous. "Yeah, Rex is no one's pet. We both fight for each other."
"Well, then I guess you two can just leave, and don't bother coming back. You guys will be banned and the gemstone will never be in your possession." Sapphy gave off a sinister chuckle and resumed eating his food.
Solrent shook at his fist in anger. "Why you..."
Rex stood up, looked at his partner and took a deep breath. "If that is what it takes, then fine...I'll do it..."
Solrent was astonished to hear those words coming out of Rex's mouth. "Wait, you don't have to...we will find another way..."
"It's alright. We only have to do this once, and if it's for the stone, then we have no choice."
Sapphy smiled and got up from his seat again. "Splendid, then you need this then. Guards." Sapphy motioned a guard to come up next to Solrent and placed an object in his hand. "Then, to show the proper place, why don't you attach that to Rex then, hmm?"
Solrent looked down at his hands, and he saw something he knew Rex would never, ever agree to: A collar and leash. "No, I cannot...this is not right..."
"Well, you are the master. So you have to ensure your pet is properly collared. He already agreed to it, so you just have to attach it. And, I know you will be suspicious of it, but go ahead, cast detect magic on it if you want to. I can assure you that it is simple as it is."
Solrent looked down at Rex who looked back at him. Rex stared at the collar and muttered a phrase underneath his breath. After a few moments, Rex nodded his head, confirming that the collar and leash had nothing magical behind it. Rex then got on his knees and knelt in front of Solrent, straining his neck for easy access. Solrent hesitantly reached down and gently rubbed Rex's neck before attaching the collar on him, tightening the piece around him. Once that was done, Solrent then attached the leash to the collar, the sound of a click confirmed its place. Rex avoided much eye contact he could with Solrent, concentrating only on the mission at hand. Meanwhile, Solrent saw the sadness in Rex's eyes, knowing that he must feel very demeaned for what this dastardly dragonewt has put his partner through.
"There, all good. But, to fully prove the master and pet relationship, you must perform an act right now, to secure the pact."
"Wait, what? To secure the pact? This is already hard enough."
"It's only one more act, and just have Rex give you a blowjob and then I know you are both serious about this."
Solrent's eyes were wide open at hearing that. On one hand, he could never force his partner to do that to him against his will. But on the other hand... "No, I will not let him. That is not right."
"...It's fine Sol..."
"...But Rex..."
"Just...let's get this over with..." Rex scooched over on his knees and slowly undid Solrent's leg armor. Once that dropped to his feet, Rex slowly pulled down his pants and fished out Solrent's cock. It laid flaccid in front of him, but after Rex took a deep breath and sighed, started to rub it, using his other paw to fondle his partner's sack as best as he could.
Solrent blushed, his legs frozen in place as his partner tended to him. He tried his best to make this swift, feeling himself get hard for him as his cock rose and stood proudly up, all nine inches of it, a bit of pre formed at the tip due to the handiwork from Rex.
Rex continued to pump Solrent's shaft, rubbing it as sensually as possible for him. As more pre formed on the tip, Rex brought his clawed finger and gently rubbed the head of Solrent's cock, eliciting a huge moan from him. Rex continued his stoned face gaze, thinking of nothing more than why he has to do this. Once he felt like his hands had done enough, Rex slowly brought his jaw right in front of the member. Rex took one more big sigh before leaning forward and giving it a kiss. This caused the cock to pulsate and shoot a bit of pre onto Rex's face. The crowd around him gave off ooooos and awwwwws, much to their annoyance.
Solrent looked down at his partner, concerned with how much Rex has been through. With all the events prior to this, he could not see his partner demean himself so low just for their mission. He wanted to stop, to tell his partner that they will find another way to get that sapphire, but that plan would be almost impossible with Sapphy not being on watch for them. All he could do was stand his composure and try to release as soon as he could. He wanted to enjoy this, and secretly he would, but not if it means putting his partner in a position like this.
Rex then opened his maw and engulfed Solrent's cock, trying his best to take in all nine inches of it. Rex did gag a little, but a part of him told him to slow down, a voice he heard in his mind said for him to take it easy. He felt something vibrating in his pocket, where he last placed his spessartine, but all he wanted to focus on was letting Solrent enjoy this moment so that they can finish this. As soon as Rex felt it hit the back of his throat, he let the cock lay in his mouth, using the muscles in his jaw and esophagus to massage it as best as he could. After some time, Rex pulled back, feeling more pre squirt inside of his maw, swallowing down the pungent flavor into his gut. Rex then started to push the cock towards the back of his throat.
Solrent took deep breaths the whole time his partner was tending to his needs. He wanted to say something, but he was at a loss for words. Solrent continued to stand still and allow Rex to do his job. He gave off soft moans as he saw Rex take him all the way to the hilt, his balls hitting Rex on the chin. Solrent wanted to pull back on his own, but a part of him just enjoyed this too much and wanted to keep in that position for as long as he could. But alas, Rex pulled back and let his cock lay on his tongue as he felt more of his pre shooting inside the maw.
Rex then started to bob his head back and forward, sucking as hard as he could. The musky flavor coming from Solrent continued to fill his mouth the long he tended to it. He continued to hear noises around him, the guards cheering him on, some even laughing at how he easily gave in to being a pet. In the corner of his eye, he saw Sapphy relaxing in his chair, one hand drumming his claws on his chest while the other at his side, almost like he was rubbing something. Rex thought he couldn't be tending to himself, since the angle would be off, but he must be doing something else. That didn't matter right now, all Rex wanted to do was focus on finishing off Solrent. So he kept his composure and sucked hard with a gusto. As a result, he was rewarded with more groans and moans from up above. He felt the penis pulse often, with every throb shooting more and more of the pre onto his tongue and the back of his throat. He felt a bit of pressure above his head, slowly opening one eye slightly to see Solrent place a hand on top of his head, with the other holding firmly onto the leash. A rush of anger started to flow within him, to the point that he just wanted to chomp down on the dick in his mouth. But the voice came back and told him to calm down, to not let his wrath overcome him. The voice said that this is a tough thing he had to do, but that the voice will be with him all the way, to protect him as best as he can. Rex took another deep breath before relaxing his mouth on the cock.
Solrent didn't know why, but his hands instinctively grabbed onto the lease and held Rex's head in place. He was at his breaking point of thrusting into that delicate maw of Rex, but he knew what happened the first he did that. So, he just let Rex take over. A part of him was saddened by this, but another part of him thoroughly enjoyed this. He yearned to be in control of his body, especially when with the intimate moment he is having with Rex right now. His desire, his envy, his greed for his partner is what is keeping him from just facefucking his partner. But he did not have to think much as Rex pulled back one last time and took his cock all the way back in his throat again, causing himself to moan loudly one last time and shoot all of his delicious, milky substance straight into Rex's stomach. Shot after shot, load after load of his cum continued to fill Rex, as he saw his partner's eyes squint harder to take in as much as he could. The crowd around them cheered loudly, knowing that the master had released into the pet. Rex could not take it anymore and had to pull back, with two last shots painting all over his face and mouth. Concerned, Solrent brought out a towel to wipe his face, but Sapphy intervened.
"Hold on there, the master should not clean after the servant. The pet should be proud to be marked with the master seed. If you even attempt to clean that right now, then you will break the pact."
"But...but..."
"...It's alright Sol...It's fine..."
"But Rex..."
"See, your pet is fine with it. Now, you two get some rest. The guards will escort you to your quarters for the time being. And don't worry, it's not going to be booby trapped or anything of that sort. You have already proven your worth so far, so I will give you your chance to fight me." Sapphy stood up and started to walk away, tugging hard on what looked to be a leash to them. "Ahem, I will take my leave now. Goodnight and see you two tomorrow, especially you, pet." Sapphy started to walk away, with another creature following behind them. From what they were able to ascertain, the creature looked closely to that of a lizardfolk, but it only visibly had on a cloak, a tattered purple one. But what really stood out to them, was the on the head of lizardfolk. They swore they said a hint of green hair before those two disappeared into the darkness.
Solrent looked down at Rex, who looked entirely defeated. The guards then got Solrent's attention, who then led them to where they will be staying the night. Solrent hesitantly pulled on the leash, but Rex easily followed next to Solrent as the two started walking with the guards. Eventually they were dropped off at their stay, with just a single comfy bed to fit only one person on. Next to the bed looked to be that of a dog's bed. Once the two stepped inside, the guard locked the door behind them and said he will return to them tomorrow. There should be enough food in there if they are still hungry, and after saying that, he left. Solrent walked over to the bed and placed Rex on his lap, who still showed no signs of emotions.
"...You ok there buddy?"
"...I just want this to be done..."
"I know...I know...it's ok, I am here for you."
"Yeah...thanks..."
Solrent reached down and hugged Rex, who started to tear up onto his chest.
"Always here for you..."
"Thanks..."
"This is tough for you, and just think that we will be done and out of here by tomorrow with the gemstone..."
"Yeah...at the cost of my wellbeing..."
"Yeah...I'm sorry you are put through this..."
"...*sniff* always me..."
"..."
"..."
"...let's get some rest and talk tomorrow, ok then Rex? I know it may not be comfortable, but you can sleep with me on this bed. We'll figure it out..."
"It's fine...I'll be ok down there...just give me a sheet and I'll suffice..."
"Are you sure about that? That would mean..."
"It's fine...I'm tired Sol...goodnight..." Rex went down to the smaller bed on the floor, and curled himself around, tucking his tail towards his head as he pulled a blanket over his body.
Solrent looked down at Rex, who started to give off slight snores. He wanted his partner to be comfortable, but with his current state of emotions, he did not want to bother anymore. They will rest on it today, and hopefully tomorrow will be something entirely different then the ordeal they both went through today.
...In the Middle of the night...
Solrent could not fall asleep like that of his partner. He knew he just went through a lot, so he does not blame him for dozing off so easily. However, he is not pleased with the way things are. He knows he has to do something, but what that something is, he is not sure. Maybe they should attack Sapphy right now, while he is asleep. Yet, that may be a bad idea, since he has to be heavily guarded, knowing that Solrent and Rex could do something like that. Still, tossing and turning is not doing him much, if only he can get some advice on what to do.
"...Solrent..."
"..."
"...Solrent..."
"..."
"God damnit, open your eyes."
Solrent opened his eyes, but his surroundings were not of the living situation he was in. He still laid in his bed, but when he looked down to his side, Rex was nowhere to be seen. Panicking, Solrent shot up from his bed and his eyes started darting everywhere. "Rex...Rex...REX!!!"
"Geez, you scream very loud there Solrent."
Solrent looked around some more, trying to find the source of that sound. As he finally turned around and readjusted himself, he saw three figures standing in front of him. One of them was a red dragonewt, one a green dragonewt, and the last one a light blue dragonewt.
"Wait...you three...but...Rex..."
Rubrum gently placed his hand on Solrent's shoulder. "It's alright, Solrent. You are asleep and dreaming right now. We sensed you were troubled, so we decided to come and support you, isn't that right Em and Zenny?"
Emmerette smiled and placed his hand on Solrent's other shoulder. "Of course. And Rex is fine, he is still asleep right now. He is going through a lot, but Spaz is trying his best to watch over him. He's in good hands with Spaz. Despite his size and being the most angry of all of us, he actually has a kind heart."
Zain stood behind Emmerette, slowly peeking from the side. "...Yes Solrent...Master and I...came here to help."
Solrent looked over at Zain. "Wait...you are here too? What's his story guys?"
"Well, you see Solrent. Zenny was obviously rescued by Top. They had a discussion amongst themselves, like we all do with Top, and now he knows that we are all working together to support you so that we can defeat our dad."
"That is right Em. Master spoke with Top, and they made an agreement with each other. I won't bother you with the details, but Master informed me that I will be working along with Top too. So, whatever either Master or Top tells me to do, I will do it. And since you have called for us, we all came here to help you." Zain summoned a slime tentacle, which gently waved back and forward at Solrent. "And...Master says hello."
Solrent gave us a nervous chuckle and waved back. "Umm..hello there...Zain's Master...Ahem...anyway so is there something you guys want to discuss with me? I assume you already know why I would have called you guys then."
Rubrum, with his slender body, easily sat down next to Solrent. "Well, I've been delegated the role of speaking on everyone's behalf, so I'll just explain it simply. We saw everything that Chubbs has put you and especially Rex to. We don't fully agree with it and we are honestly not sure why Chubbs is specifically targeting Rex. Top is investigating it, but he can only do so much without getting noticed. All he asked for us to do was watch over you, and for Spaz to keep a close eye on Rex. He cannot intervene too much, or else risk exposing himself as well. But please Solrent, just trust us and we will ensure your safety and Rex's as best as we can." All three brothers smiled at Solrent.
"Yeah, exactly what Roo said Solrent. I know that us three will do our best to continue to help you grow. We know you are still learning that one last skill, and I am sure Zenny has something to say about that, right?" Emmerette turned around and pushed Zain in front.
Zain stood there and was shaking a bit, his knees slightly buckled. "...Yes, Solrent. Master has informed me that you want to learn something called, impale. Well, Master has seen that move before, and has an idea about it. However, Master informed me that he will have to concentrate back on how it works, since the last time he saw that move was against him and that was not a fond memory for him. Still, we are all here to help you, so once Master has recalled it, just trust us and we will guide you to it as well. Who knows, maybe at the most drastic time, you will learn it."
Solrent took a deep sign and smiled back at all three. "Thank you guys. I just hope that Spessart and Rex will feel the same when they see each other like we are meeting now."
Rubrum got up from the bed and stood between his two brothers. "Of course, no thanks are needed. We are all in this together. Now, we have to go. And do not tell Rex about this, Top wants to keep any meetings with us a secret. And you have to trust him on this. Once he finds out more information, we will try to let you know. Until then, we bid you adieu." Rubrum bowed to Solrent and took both of his brother's hands in his. Emmerette and Zain waved goodbye as they disappeared into the light. Solrent continued his smile until they vanished, before he returned back to his bed and stared at the endless ceiling for a moment. He thought to himself, At least the brothers are sincere about helping us. Have to thank Top for all of that. He closed his eyes and drifted back into his slumber.
The next day could not have come sooner for them. Solrent looked over at his partner, Rex still curled up in his ball on the floor next to. Just as he was about to wake him up, Rex gave off a long yawn before rising from his slumber. He stretched his limbs and tail, cracking his neck with his hands. However, the moment he felt the collar on his neck, his arms dropped and a solemn look was shown at his face. Rex gave off a big sign before turning around and looking at his partner.
"...morning Sol..."
Solrent leaned in and hugged Rex as tight as he could. "Morning Rex...We don't have to do this...if you are very uncomfortable, we can figure something else out."
Rex shook his head. "It's alright Sol. Just have to get through today and I can take this damn thing off."
Solrent smiled and planted a soft kiss on Rex's head. "That's right, just think about getting through today and we can be over with this. It pains me to see you so demoted like this."
"Yeah...but I feel a lot better today than yesterday. Strange though, I had a weird dream."
"Oh? What happened?"
"I don't know really, but I felt this overwhelming strength over me. And my body was glowing a faint orange. I really have no idea, but I have an inkling that maybe someone is watching over me. What do you think? Experience the same thing as me?"
Solrent pondered for a moment. "I can say that I have not experienced the same thing as you. It does sound a bit far fetched, but maybe it's someone just encouraging you to keep going. And you mentioned orange, and I am orange. You could be dreaming about me, haha. Getting some interesting thoughts in that noggin of yours?" Solrent gently tapped Rex on the shoulder.
Rex rolled his eyes in a bit of disgust, but also gave off a big smile. "Oh you, now you want to invade my dreams. Is that what you want? For me to always think about you, you silly reptile."
"What can I say, I am quite handsome, aren't I?"
"Oh shut up Sol." Rex leaned back and embraced Solrent back in a hug. "But I appreciate that morning humor, it'll make going through the day a lot faster."
Before the two continued talking about how to tackle the rest of the day, a guard slowly approached their living quarters.
"You two are being summoned by Sapphy for the battle. Come with me and I will take you to the chambers."
Solrent and Rex looked at each other one more time, nodded and followed the guard. He led them through a series of hallways and doors, but eventually they made it to a lobby of some sorts. There were wooden chairs and tables around, and even a place to washen up. Once Solrent and Rex settled down, the guard instructed them that when they hear their name called, they will enter through the door behind him. Until then, he instructed them to wait and took his leave shortly afterwards.
"So...what do you want to do Rex? Want to prepare any spells or want me to show you any cool moves?
"I'm a bard Sol, we don't prepare spells, we just know them. And besides, I don't want to blow them all off in the first fight. I hope to mainly use the rapier and the crossbow if needed. But do you even know how to use a sword?"
"Well, it has been a while. I knew how to use it when I first started training, but the spear felt more comfortable for me to use."
Rex grabbed onto his rapier and flourished it in his hand, twirling the handle as the blade easily rotated with it. "I think I will be fine then. I really don't fight with these, but that doesn't mean I have no idea how to use them. I guess you can call it my bardic training."
Solrent chuckled. "Were you keeping battle secrets from me then Rex? Just hiding all of this finesse you have with a sword behind your words and books? Hmm?"
"Heh, I prefer not being in the front line, as you can tell. Casting spells from behind is a lot easier. Although, using the crossbow could be a nice change here and there, especially when I do run out of spells and want to keep my distance."
"Good, maybe keep practicing that then. Never hurts to have options."
*ding* *ding* Master Solrent, you and your pet may now head inside the arena *ding* *ding*
Solrent looked over to Rex, who had a gloomy look all of a sudden. "...I guess that means us...you ok there Rex?"
"...Yeah, I just did not like what the announcement said, that's all."
Solrent reached down and hugged his partner. "We got this...you got this...So go get them tiger."
"...Thanks Sol..."
The two headed towards the doorway the guard mentioned earlier and fully stepped into the battle arena.
The sounds of the roaring crowd can be heard from the stands surrounding them. Solrent and Rex were truly amazed at the number of people they saw. For being a desert town, they were captivated by the raucous crowd, money being held in their hands as cheering and jeering was heard from all over. Moments later, Sapphy stepped from the shadows in his alcove and addressed the crowd.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, today we will have a special fight today. We have a newcomer today. Their names are Master Solrent and his pet Rex. So, please, give them a round of applause."
Thunderous claps can be heard around the arena, as people started chanting their names in appreciation.
"Now, for today's fights, these two have been honored with fighting two of our arena combatants. They will occur back-to-back with a thirty minute short rest in between. Now, for the bets today, you will either bet on them being victorious in both fights or losing at all by the end of the day. And the payout will be 10:1."
The crowd roared furiously, as they looked around for the designated betting guards throughout the stands.
"And if they do prove victor, then they will get a special prize from yours truly. Now, without further ado, let the battle commence." Sapphy bowed to the crowd, clapping his hands as he walked back to his seat to enjoy the show below.
Solrent and Rex stared across the arena, seeing a rather timid pair walking towards them. One was wearing a collar and looked to be a kobold. The other was a kenku, holding onto the leash, presumably the master. These two looked extremely nervous for being here, almost to the point that they were going to just drop everything and run.
Solrent leaned down and whispered in Rex's horns. "Umm...I don't think they want to fight us really."
"...Yeah Sol...like they are being forced into this. I don't feel comfortable about this at all."
"...Then try not to be too rough with them. Just knock them out, don't go for a killing blow."
"...Sol, you know that will probably not happen. I feel bad for them. Why is Sapphy making us fight someone who doesn't even want to fight?"
"Maybe he's trying to prove a point, or do you think he is letting us win?"
"I doubt it...but anyway, I think I know how to handle this."
"Alright then Rex, I'll be here cheering you on."
Solrent smiled and patted Rex on the head before unclipping the leash. Rex slowly strode to the middle of the arena, waiting on his side of the platform. The kobold creature also slowly approached the middle as well. Once they arrived, the kobold tried to avoid contact with Rex as much as they could. Rex could sense fear from the otherside, seeing the kobold shaking in their legs.
"And now, the battle between...ahem...Rex and Krak will begin. Now, En Garde."
A sound of a gong rang and reverberated throughout the arena. Rex took a defensive stance while the Kobold nervously took an offensive one.
Both Rex and Krak stared at each other, no one making a single move yet. The cheering in the crowd started to lessen and lessen with everyone packing second. Eventually, the crowd started to get a little rowdy, with faint boos heard throughout the stands. Rex looked back at Solrent, who just shrugged his shoulders before facing back at Krak. He looked back and shook his head, not wanting to go through with this. Rex took a big sigh before drawing his rapier with one hand before preparing a spell with the other. Seeing this, Krak nervously drew out their slingshot, picked up a rock and aimed it at Rex's head. As he let go, he closed his eyes and turned his head, the rock easily missing Rex completely and landed in a place no one cared about.
Rex stared in wonder at what just happened. The kobold turned his head back and saw that he completely missed. As he was reaching for the ground to pick up another rock, Rex quickly dashed in and led in with his shoulder and charged at the kobold. Upon impact, the kobold fell to the ground, rubbing his shoulder in pain. Rex stood over the kobold as he pointed the tip of his sword at the kobold. When he saw the blade, he quickly turned to Rex, groveling, cowering, and begging to be spared.
Sapphy stood up from his throne and announced to the crowd. "Ahh, it looks like we have a victory already. Congratulations to Master Solrent and his winning pet Rex. Please give them a round of applause."
The crowd in the stands cheered once more, the cacophony of hands clapping together echoed throughout the arena. People started chanting Rex's name in triumph as he started to look around the area. Rex did not feel too good about this victory, like something was purposefully off about this. Yet, a win is still a win, and he is one step closer to ending this nightmare. As he turned away to head towards Solrent, he felt something on his ankle. He quickly glanced downwards and saw the kobold holding onto his leg. He heard a faint whisper coming from him.
"Please...save me...kill that dragonewt...all is not right here...please..." Before Rex can respond, the guards quickly enter the arena and drag the kobold back to the kenku master. Rex stood frozen as they were both escorted back into the waiting chambers from where they came from.
Rex slowly made his way back to Solrent, who gave him a smile and a hug.
"You did it. That was a rather anticlimactic fight, if I do say so myself. It's like they weren't even fighting at all."
"I know...and I don't like this one bit Sol. He told me to save them. To kill Sapphy and that something is off about this entire place."
"Oh? Hmm...I see. That makes sense then, why the fight may have been a bit easy..."
"We best be on our guard then. I don't know what happens to the losers, I can only hope for the best. But, if we get the chance, let's go save him and bring the both of them back to town. I really don't like this place at all."
"Ok Rex...I'll be watching everything more carefully now. Just be careful in the next fight, ok?"
"You got it. Let's head back to the chambers." Solrent and Rex then started to turn towards their entrance, but another announcement was heard.
"Ahh, it looks like our newcomers forgot one of the perks of winning a fight in the arena here." The two looked up at Sapphy, with both an inquisitive yet concerned face. "What better way to celebrate a pet's victory, than to give a pet what they want most from their master."
"Oh boy, we get to see another show."
"I wonder how much the pet can take."
"Ooo, never seen this race before, I wonder what they are like?"
Rex turned to Solrent. "What are they talking about Sol? I don't like what the crowd is saying." He leaned onto Solrent, who responded by putting his arm around his shoulder, in a protective grip."
"Honestly, I have no clue. What do they mean by, can you take it?"
Up above, Sapphy continued to address the crowd. "Why not shout at them with more encouraging words then? That should ignite the spark between them."
The crowd started to harmoniously chant, "Fuck him! Fuck him! Fuck him!"
Rex's eyes widened, as those words suddenly registered in his mind. His legs started shaking as he started to hide behind Solrent's bulk. "Wait...they can't be serious can they...In front of everyone?"
Grinding his teeth, Solrent stared up at Sapphy. "You can't be serious? This was not part of the agreement."
Sapphy chuckled. "And, what is your point? You want to get to your second match so you can address me? Then go fuck your pet then. If you don't, then I guess you will never get your next match, and thus will be stuck here for all eternity."
"Why you!" Solrent felt a fire within his body start to bundle up. He just wanted to ignite this entire place on fire, but Rex stepped out of his hiding spot and slowly sulked over to the front of Solrent, his back still to him. Upon seeing this, Solrent extinguished the fire and spoke to his partner. "What are you doing Rex?"
Rex turned his head back, his eyes full of sadness, "...Just do it...Not like you haven't done it before...*sigh*...this is for the quest...and Sapphy holds all the cards right now..."
"...But Rex..."
"...I'll be fine...I don't care if these people see me like this...we can just forget about all of them once we murder that bastard..." Rex looked back at Solrent. Though tears started pooling down his face, Solrent noticed a brief flash of orange in Rex's iris. "Just...hopefully you can do it quick..." Rex turned and faced forward, getting onto all four as he raised his tail.
Solrent was amazed at the animosity behind Rex's words. He never knew his partner to be this angry before, but understood that maybe someone else may be influencing Rex's thoughts. Despite the mood, Solrent felt a stirring in his crotch the moment he saw Rex's tailhole. The position his partner is displaying for him, being on all four and exposing himself so easily, he felt his lust build strongly within him. He instinctively moved towards his partner, his hand slowly stroking Rex's back before reaching down to his buttocks and giving one of the cheeks a soft squeeze. Solrent slowly grabbed onto his hardened cock and aimed it at his partner's entrance. "...Are you positive about this Rex...I just don't feel good about doing this...despite what my body really wants..."
"...*sigh*...Just do it...the sooner the better, Sol...at least I want you to enjoy it...enjoy it for the both of us..."
"...Rex...ok...I'll be very gentle...just let me know if it hurts...ok?..."
"..."
"...Ok..." Solrent took a deep breath. "...then here...I....GO!" And with that, Solrent slowly made his way inside of Rex, inch by inch of his dick slowly pushing into that tailhole. Rex grunted and moaned, a mix of pleasure and pain as his limbs shook. Still, Rex was able to maintain his composure and nodded his head, signaling to Solrent to continue.
"And what do you think of that? Look at the Master claiming his pet. As all pets should do honestly. Bow down and be fucked by their masters."
The crowd roared loudly, agreeing to Sapphy's claim and enjoying the scene.
"Yea, fuck that...whatever reptile that pet is supposed to be!"
"Put him in his place...like all pets are!"
"Fuck that bitch proud, you dragon!"
Solrent did his best to zone out the crowd, just enjoying this somewhat intimate moment between the two. He knew this is not like the first time he did this to Rex. He is in control of his body and he wants to be sure Rex is ok. Solrent heard a whisper in his head, a rather familiar voice reaching out to him as a certain stone vibrated in his pocket. Don't worry. I am not here to harm nor control you Solrent. I am here to help guide you, in a sense. You know what to do, I am just ensuring the safety of both you and Rex as much as I can. I'll help you block out the distracting sounds, so you only focus on your partner. Your strong desire and lust for him is all that is important right now. I should know, I am the embodiment of lust after all. Haha. Joking aside, just purely focus on your partner. Surprised, Solrent looked to his sides as he continued to push himself into Rex, finally hilting him as he felt his sack pressed against Rex's crotch.
Rex gave off a loud moan, his own cock stirring into life as he knew Solrent had gone all the way and pressed his dick against his special button. Rex's arms and legs felt like noodles, wobbling and shaking from the amount of pain and pleasure his body experienced. But he knew he had to keep his composure as best as he could, and focus on letting his partner finish the job so that they can escape this crowd and be one step closer to eliminating Sapphy.
Solrent kept a steady rhythm, pushing and pulling his penis in and out of Rex. He too moaned loudly, enjoying the warm embrace his cock was getting as pre shot from the head deep into Rex. This helped him fuck his partner with greater ease, eliciting more pleasurable moans from the dinosaur. Solrent smiled, the voice in his head congratulating him and urging him to continue. He slowly picked up the pace, fucking his partner with a bit of a better tempo.
"And there you have it, everyone. Now the real fucking can begin. Keep chanting and yelling. I am sure they enjoy that encouragement."
Rex noticed Solrent slowly adjusting his speed, fucking him with a bit more eagerness then earlier. He closed his eyes, drowning out the noise he hears throughout the arena and focusing on giving his partner as much pleasure as possible. He squeezed his muscles in his rear, creating that tight tunnel that his partner can push through. And with every push and poke at his button, Rex moaned loudly, his cock spewing more pre onto the ground. His arms gave way, as he collapsed forward, raising his tail and tailhole even higher.
Solrent grabbed onto Rex's tail with one hand as he adjusted himself with his new position. Solrent then decided to fuck Rex a bit faster, scissoring in and out, his other hand holding onto the leash and gently tugging on it. Rex turned his head slightly and glared evilly at Solrent. Solrent immediately loosened his grip on the collar and gave back a nervous smile, apologizing for being too in the moment. He then focused back on his partner's rear, continuing his assault on breeding that cute ass of Rex, eliciting more moans as he felt being close.
Rex shook his head, thinking to himself, I may have let Solrent enjoy himself too much. He likes this collar and master/pet thing a bit too much. It's degrading...I shouldn't enjoy this...It's not me...right...? Before Rex continued his thought, he felt the cock in his rear pulse sporadically. Knowing this, he readjusted his legs again, spreading them a bit wider so that his partner can easily finish his goal. He turned his head again at Solrent, and just gave one small nod.
Solrent nodded back, fucking Rex faster and faster, as he felt so close to finishing. The only thoughts he had in his head was being with Rex, enjoying their time together in town. They would go on a date and eat to their heart's content, enjoy a musical theatre at the guild, and then end the night in the comfort of each other's embrace. He imagined just cuddling and snuggling up to Rex, being the big spoon for him. The thought of sleeping peacefully with Rex pushed Solrent over the edge as he thrusted one last time into his partner, hilting him and spewing all of his potent seed deep into the bowels of Rex, shooting that button over and over again.
Rex moaned loudly, collapsing onto the ground as his cock spewed his potent seed all over the floor. He felt his rear getting more full with all of the seed that Solrent just unloaded into him. He laid in his pool of cum as he lost all of his willpower to maintain his composure. He couldn't even look back at Solrent, to see what sort of expression his partner had. Was it one of happiness or sadness, or some sinister smiler that he secretly had? No, he would not think ill of his partner, but then again...
Solrent huffed and slowly pulled out of his Rex, a few more shots of his cum hitting his partner's back and painting it a bit white. He then got on one knee, as the strength in his legs gave way due to all the pleasure that coursed through his body. Despite what occurred, he was happy to be done with it. He did not want to hurt or humiliate his partner anymore.
"Mmm, I am sure you all loved seeing that. Why not give them another round of applause."
Thunderous claps echoed throughout the arena.
"Way to go there Master Sol!"
"You fucked that reptile bitch hard!"
"All good pets bow down and raise their tails to their masters! And I am glad we came here to see it!"
Solrent looked around the crowd and scoffed at them. If he wanted to, he would easily dispose of them all. But, right now, his partner is all that matters to him. Solrent rushed over to his side, picked him up, and started heading back to the lobby. Right as he was about to pass the archway, he heard Sapphy address the crowd once more.
"That was a great first match right? Well, we will give them a little bit of time to recoup any lost energy they may have had. They will need it for the next one. Thirty minutes everyone. So please, take care of any personal business you may need, you all know where the restrooms are. Until then, I bid you all adieu."
In the lobby, Solrent grabbed a towel and slowly cleaned Rex off. As he started going down to his rear, Rex waved him off, shaking his head. Confused, Solrent tried to reach down lower, but Rex grabbed his hand. "...It's fine...I am sure Sapphy wants me to keep it...He'll know if we clean it...I'm ok..."
Solrent gave off a big sigh before nodding his head. He then gently placed himself on the couch, with Rex's head on his lap. Solrent gently rubbed it as he said, "I'm sorry about that Rex. I really hope you are alright."
Rex opened one eye lazily. "I'm fine...Just fine..."
"If you say so...Here, just rest on my lap...You need your energy for the next fight after all...Want to eat something though?"
"Naw... I'm alright...I still have all of my spells with me..."
"Well, just let me know if you need anything...I'll just be here." Solrent smiled down and gently kissed Rex on his forehead.
Rex smiled back before closing his eyes, drawing shallow breaths as he rested until his next match. Meanwhile, Solrent stared down at Rex, never noticing how peaceful he looked. Solrent knows that Rex is putting up so much just for them to succeed on their mission. He knows he has to do something for him when this is all said and done. Maybe Athena will be back and he can discuss Rex's mental wellbeing and what he can do to help him. And also, maybe he can ask Smith to create a cool weapon for Rex.
With his eyes still closed, Rex said, "...by the way Sol..."
"...Yeah?"
"...That lizardfolk earlier next to Sapphy...you noticed it right?"
"...you talking about the purple cloak and green hair?"
"...yeah that..."
"...you don't think?"
"...possibly."
"...we have to find out, but I think it has to be her right? Has to be Nino?"
"...maybe if we win the next fight, we can get a closer look when we can get an audience with Sapphy."
"...alright Sol..."
"...just keep getting some rest."
Rex took a deep breath before going back to his shallow breathing, recouping as much energy as possible.
***After thirty minutes has passed***
Shuffling can be heard as two guards entered the lobby. They hurried over to where Solrent and Rex were sitting. "You two, your next fight is about to begin. Please head into the arena. You have five minutes or you will forfeit your match by default." The guards then swiftly left the room.
Solrent gently shook Rex. "Okay buddy. Are you ready for this?"
Rex stretched his arms and slowly turned his body to stand on the floor. "No choice in the matter. Just this one fight and we will be done."
"Yep, just keep thinking that and we got this." The two entered through the doorway and out into the arena again.
The sun was now blazing high above their heads as the desert heat now slowly blew through the stage. People in the stands were fanning themselves with their money while taking sips through their canteens. Solrent and Rex stood in their circle, waiting for Sapphy to address the entire crowd. Looking at the other side, the two spotted who their opponent for this round would be. But, they saw nothing but an empty circle. The two looked at each other with questioning faces before they heard the sound of thunder echo through the arena. They turned their heads back and their jaws dropped when they realized the source of that sound.
A huge dragonewt was slowly approaching them, his gigantic legs causing the dust around his steps to blow up into the ground. Rex swore he felt the earth shake a little bit as the monstrous reptile continued to make his way into the opponent's circle. What was even more scary, the dragonewt had a collar in his neck. Rex thought to himself, no...he cannot be my opponent...what is this? A bead of sweat dripped from his forehead to the bottom of his snout. He saw his master slithering behind him, a yuan-ti. Rex looked up to Solrent, who also had a grim appearance.
"Umm...Sol...what the actual hell is that?"
"I don't know Rex...but that dude looks like a freaking mountain."
"I don't think I can do this."
Solrent looked down at Rex, placing both of his hands on Rex's shoulders. "You can do this Rex. Just be positive. Look at him, he may be brawny, but you have seen worse. Remember Spessart? He easily was way bulkier than this guy."
"Yeah, but you fought him, not me. All he did was...give me a little bit of stress relief...that is all. You did all the fighting."
"Well, Athena and I actually. But that is besides the point. He looks to be a barbarian. So just be very dexterous with your maneuvers and you got this."
Rex gave off a big sigh, shaking his head. "Ugh, whatever. Fine, I got this. Just have to play to my advantage."
"That's the spirit." Solrent smiled and gave Rex a kiss on his forehead. "I'm with you all the way."
Rex blushed a little bit. "Umm...thanks Sol."
"Will our two pets please head towards the center of the stage."
Rex looked back at Sol, who gave him a thumbs up, as he started heading towards the middle. Rex could not stop staring at the huge dragonewt as he slowly strode to the center. Rex saw nothing but muscle upon muscle throughout the body. The colors of his scales looked to be a dusty brown color, while his undercoat was a similar cream to that of Solrent. He carried a huge axe on his back, almost similar to that of Spessart. But what sets him aside from him, was at least the face. Spessart had somewhat of a decent face one can look at, but this monster had a face that looked like it was hit by a carriage. It was bruised and scarred in many different ways. Rex would doubt anyone would want to date this guy, if given the chance. After some time, Rex and the dragonewt made their way to the circle, standing only a few yards away from each other.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now here for the wonderful second special match of the day. We have seen victory from our newcomer Master Solrent and his pet Rex. We saw them easily dispatch their opponent without even breaking a sweat," Sapphy said with agusto.
The crowd cheered loudly, the sound almost deafening to Rex.
"And now, since they were flawless in that battle, why not advance them straight to one of our arena champions."
The crowd cheered even louder. Rex's eyes widened, as he processed what he just heard. Wait, so that last fight...Was it staged?
"And what better champion then for Tilwren to have a nice joust with Rex, hmm?"
Rex turned to Tilwren, sweating bullets as his legs started shaking.
The dragonewt looked at Rex and gave off a slight chuckle. "Heh, this is going to be easy, pipsqueak. I'll finish you in five seconds."
Rex nervously gulped as he took a defensive stance, one of his hands hovering over the hilt of his rapier.
Tilwren chuckled again and took an offensive stance, his hand already gripping onto his axe."
"Now, the battle between Rex and Tilwren will commence. Are you two ready? En Garde!"
Immediately, Tilwren brought out his axe and slammed it at Rex's feet. Luckily, Rex managed to jump back and dodge the attack. Rex thought to himself, that was a bit too close for comfort.
"Heh, you trying to make this a bit interesting, little pipsqueak?"
"Is that all you can say? I guess so, since all they are capable of is just smashing things. At least for me, I have grace in my skill, unless you, you reckless brute," Rex said with a vicious mockery.
Tilwren's head twitched a little, those words seemingly having an effect on his psyche. "Why you, get back here." Tilwren continued to charge and swing his axe at Rex, missing every time.
Rex kept his sidestepping and dodging from Tilwren's attack, knowing his words had the brute at a disadvantage. However, he knows he cannot win without being on a little bit of the offense. Tilwren came at him again, aiming the blade of his giant axe at Rex's head. Rex managed to duck and backflip backwards. While in the motion, he cast, magic missiles, and purple darts from behind him flew from behind him and struck Tilwren easily on his chest. The dragonewt gave off a soft grunt as he rubbed his shoulder.
"I'm going to end you, little man. If you think that is what it will take to down me, then you are clearly mistaken." Tilwren yelled into the sky, the pupil in his eyes becoming more pinpoint as a wave of rage started to fill him. He then charged again at Rex with reckless abandon, using all of his force to swing at Rex.
This is very similar to how Solrent fought Spessart. I know I did not see the fight that well, but I still vaguely remember this. I should be able to handle this. Rex thought to himself, but had to keep it short as the distance between him and Tilwren was closing. Tilwren swung his axe across his body, aiming for Rex's torso. Rex managed to duck under the swing, but when he looked up, he saw Tilwren towering over him, getting his fist out and slugging it at Rex's head. At the last moment, Rex tilted his head and Tilwren's momentum carried him forward, missing Rex completely. Rex brought out his rapier and poked at Tilwren, feeling it connect with the monstrous body. A little bit of spotty blood appeared on his back, as Rex ran back a few steps after his swift attacks.
Tilwren looked back over his shoulder and saw that he was bleeding a little, but shrugged it off. "You got me there, pipsqueak. But that is nothing but a scratch compared to the world of hurt you just asked for. You just wait for it, I'm gunning for you." The rage in his eyes continued to build up as Rex was a bit shaken from those taunts.
I can't let him get to me, the moment I have a lapse in judgement, it's over for me. Rex decided to bring out his crossbow and give it a try. Maybe if I can stick enough arrows into him, he'll bleed out or something. As Rex kept pedaling backwards, he cocked an arrow and aimed it towards Tilwren. He pressed the trigger and saw the arrow fly swiftly, hitting Tilwren squarely on his chest. This caused Tilwren to stop his motion, grimacing a little in pain. However, he easily grabbed the shaft of the arrow and removed it all from his body.
"Oh? Got some more bags of tricks up your sleeves? First you hit me with your insults, then you try to stab me with your stick. Now, you want to shoot some arrows at me. Oh, you have done it now. I was going to end you swiftly, but I'll enjoy every second of your demise." Tilwren rubbed his chest before proceeding towards Rex.
This is bad, nothing is working. What do I do? Solrent usually figures out a plan for this stuff, I only know how to fight from the backline. Ugh, I would cast more spells, but I can't exhaust everything. Even if Sapphy said this was the last fight, I don't trust him. If only I knew more offensive oriented spells. Rex tried to reload his crossbow while running away from Tilwren. However, the distance between them closed in as Rex was not too familiar with how to prepare his weapon for firing. Maybe if I perform a point blank shot, that should knock him out. It's a risk, but I am running out of options here. Rex continued to his dashes away from Tilwren, but Tilwren's strides had him inch closer and and closer to Rex. He decided to take his gamble, slowly his steps so that he was as close as he could be to Tilwren. Just as Tilwren brought out his axe again to swing at him, Rex cocked another arrow and aimed it at Tilwren's head. Being at this close range, he was sure he would hit him. So, he closed his eyes and hit the trigger, feeling the weight of the arrow fly away from his crossbow. He heard a huge grunt and moan, the sound of a weapon falling to the ground. The sounds of pain emanated across from him. I did it, I actually did it. Rex opened his eyes, hoping to see his enemy on the ground. But instead, he saw the opposite of what he hoped. Sure, he saw the brute's weapon on the ground, but then he saw an hand around his neck, with an arrow sticking rather deep inside the shoulder.
"You thought you had me there didn't you pipsqueak. I will admit, you thought you would shoot that arrow to my head. But I saw your little plan there; it was extremely obvious. I'll give you the A for effort, but now, I will get my reward that Master Sapphy has promised me." Tilwren lifted Rex up into the air, gripping his neck as tight as possible. Rex choked, his gag reflex kicking in as he was gasping for air. He brought his arms up to try and pry the grip away from him, his legs and tail flailing around. Then, Tilwren slammed Rex to the ground with such force that it created a small crater behind his back. Rex's eyes felt like they would escape his skull as the amount of pain radiating through his body was sending it into shock.
A bit of blood was seeping through Rex's maw, his back numb from the impact as the grip around his neck felt tighter with every second. Tilwren smirked, seeing the fear in Rex's eyes as Rex struggled on the ground. "Mmm...delicious. Love seeing my prey squirm like this. Just keep that up pipsqueak. The crowd around us sure is enjoying it."
The cheering from the crowd grew louder as they saw one of the arena champions besting the newcomer. They started chanting Tilwren's name, showering him with praise. Tilwren looked down at Rex, mocking him back. "See that? That is what a real winner sounds like. Not like you."
Tears started forming in Rex's eyes as they cascaded to the ground. Upon seeing this, Solrent immediately called for the match to end. "Hey Sapphy. Stop this match, this is not right. You don't fight to the death."
Laughing maniacally, Sapphy rose from his seat and said, "This is my arena. I never said that the fights ended with both sides living."
"Why you." Anger was seen in Solrent's eyes as he started making his way to the battlefield.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You violate the rules, and I'll make sure you two never leave here."
Solrent stopped his movements, and glared evilly both at Sapphy and at Tilwren. But when he looked at Rex struggling on the ground, a mixture of his anger and sorrow started to fill him. He felt like he had to do something, but his hands were tied.
Tilwren loosened his grip on Rex, who then rolled over onto his knees and started coughing up a mixture of saliva and blood. Rex continued to cry, the pain throughout his body, especially around his neck, becoming more unbearable with every passing second. Up above he heard Tilwren continue to taunt him.
"Aww, look at the little baby. He's crying that he wants his daddy over there now. Well, he ain't here to save you. It's just you and me. And in a second, it will only be me. Heh, so much for putting up a fight. Normally I would entertain the crowd a bit more, but I seeing your pathetic excuse for a fighter is making me sick. You are better off dead." Tilwren raised his axe with both of his hands before performing one powerful strike right at Rex's head.
Solrent closed his eyes, expecting to hear a scream from his partner. But instead, all he heard was gasps throughout the arena, even one from Sapphy in his alcove. Solrent slowly opened one eye, and too gave off a gasp. He saw his partner brought both of his hands up, catching the blade of the axe just mere inches from his head. As Solrent looked closer, he noticed a figure laying within Rex...or rather, Rex laying within the figure's body. A faint, orange aura was seen around Rex, as he easily pushed the axe backwards, causing Tilwren to stumble. Rex managed to stand on his own feet, rotating his arm and cracking his knuckles. Rex looked back at Solrent, the figure mirroring Rex's movements. Words can be seen coming from them and Solrent was able to make out, I'll protect him, no matter what, before they turned their attention back to Tilwren.
The crowd grew silent, unsure of what just happened. Sapphy looked down and he too noticed what was going on, and promptly left his booth up above.
Tilwren, a bit shocked, said, "What the...where is this power coming from...I was told this would be an easy fight...this guy has nothing...Whatever...I made you go down once, I can easily do it again." Tilwren reared back before charging again at Rex, swinging his axe down with more force."
At the last second, Rex side stepped the attack and ducked before rearing his fist back and striking Tilwren in his chin with an uppercut, sending him flying backwards. Tilrwen groaned in pain as he landed on his back, blood pouring down his nostrils and mouth. He got up and spit it out, glaring back at Rex. He reared back once more before giving off another reckless charge, leading in with his shoulder. Rex brought out his arms, his palms facing up as he was waiting for Tilwren to strike. The moment Tilwren was face to face with Rex, he sidestepped once more, swinging his body around the brute before grabbing onto his arm, bringing him over shoulder and slamming him into the ground. Tilwren's body bounced from the impact, his voice screaming in pain before Rex spun around and gave a roundhouse kick to his stomach, sending him flying across the arena before crashing again to the ground.
Tilwren gasped for air, his body covered in his blood as he groaned in antagonizing pain. Before he could get up, Rex immediately straddled his chest and started punching his head with both of his hands, jabbing here and there. Tilwren tried to bring up his hands to block, but the unfound strength in Rex easily pushed his arms aside as Rex continued to pummel his opponent into the ground.
The sound of the crowd grew silent as the only noise in the arena was contact between Rex's fists and Tilwren's face and the moans of pain emanating from his voice. Even Solrent stood still, not wanting to intervene with his partner's current wellbeing.
Each punch towards the dragonewt's face was filled with anger and wrath. Even if he wanted to, Rex felt the urge to continue to beat this guy until he wishes to be dead. Just as he was about to land one more blow, he felt his hand stop, just a mere centimeter from Tilwren's snout. Rex blinked one time, feeling the anger coursing through his body slowly dissipate, as a wave of calmness flowed through him. He looked down at his opponent, who was already unconscious from all the beating he just got. Rex slowly rose from his opponent and stood back, shocked at the job he had done. He looked at his fists, bloodied and bruised, before he turned and looked at Solrent. He saw his partner look at him with concern before collapsing into a squat and slowly crying.
As he started to head towards his partner, eight guards rushed towards him and drew their weapons. Solrent looked at all of them, gritting his teeth as he noticed Sapphy emerge from the opposite side, with the yuan-ti he saw earlier along with the lizardfolk following closely behind Sapphy. He saw Sapphy speak to the yuan-ti, who got some guards to slowly drag the body of Tilwren back towards their lobby.
Sapphy looked over at Rex, who slowly rose from his squat, exhausted and tired from the fight he just had. Sapphy brought out his whip and cracked it against the ground. "You, what are you doing here?"
Rex looked back at Sapphy with a confused look.
"I'm not talking to you, you pet. I'm talking about Spaz. I know I saw him, he was right there."
Rex looked around his shoulder, not sure of what Sapphy was talking about.
"I know you are there. You were eliminated a while ago. But why are you here? Don't tell me...you are actually helping these losers kill all of us aren't you. Well, I won't let that happen. King and I, we will ensure that will not happen at all." Sapphy cracked his whip once more at the ground, tugging on his leash as he brought his pet closer to his body. He cleared his throat before addressing the crowd.
"Ladies and Gentlemen. It looks like our pet here actually won his second match."
The crowd slowly started cheering back to life again, some claps can be heard throughout the place.
"And as their reward, and a reward for honestly all of you fine spectators, a special fight between myself and my pet. I hope you all will enjoy the show."
Between the guards drawing their weapons at Solrent, he said, "Wait a minute. Two versus one? That's cheating."
Sapphy gave an evil eye to Solrent. "My arena, my house, my rules. And besides, your pet cheated. There was no way he was supposed to win that fight."
"Wait a minute, you freaking rigged that fight from the start?"
"Yea, so what. Like I said, my house, my rules. You used my brother's power, and I will not let you use them anymore. Even if Spaz willingly helped your partner, I'll be sure to send him to hell for being a traitor. Him and I would assume not all my other dead brothers."
"You Bastard." Solrent started to head towards Sapphy, but the guards prevented him from taking any more movement. "Get out of my way!"
"Heh, guards, dispose of him while I take care of this bad pet."
The guards nodded and slowly began their attack on Solrent as Sapphy looked back at Rex. "Now my dear dinosaur, I will take care of you, and make you a pet as well. I am sure King would like to add another one to his collection. So, En Garde!"
Sapphy cracked his whip and the lizardfolk pet standing next to him immediately brought out her weapon and aimed it at Rex. He stared at it, a bit foreign to him, yet still somewhat familiar. He followed the shape of the weapon, from the barrel all the way to the grip and trigger. Rex thought to himself, I swear I have seen this before. Was it with that other lizardfolk...Gael was it?_Rex then saw her place her finger over the trigger area, your clawed finger pressing lightly on it. Instinctively, Rex prepared himself for what danger this object can entail and the moment he saw her pull on that trigger, a loud sound blasted his horns. Before he knew it, he heard a _dink sound and noticed a bit of dust propped up near his feet. In the ground, he saw a round metal object, lodged rather firmly. Sapphy looked at his pet and whipped at his pet.
"Aim better you useless girl. He's standing still and that was the perfect shot." Sapphy shook his head and struck the back of the lizardfolk, who grimaced a bit, but remained unphased. "I have to do everything myself now, don't I?" Rex looked at the face of the lizardfolk, noticing their eyes void of all emotions, but a bit of tears slowly forming in the corner. "You focus on just shooting him down and tiring him out, I'll knock him down with my spells then." Sapphy then started to concentrate, swirling his whip in the air as Rex started to see a bit of fire conjure up above Sapphy's head.
Noticing this, Rex mustered what energy he had in his legs to run away from where he stood. But alas, he was too late as Sapphy finished his spell and sent his _fireball_right at Rex's feet. Luckily though, Rex managed to jump at the final moment, avoiding most of the blast from the attack. However, he still felt a burning sensation all over his body as the flames still caught a bit of him. Rex writhed on the ground, rolling in the dust to try and cool down the burns on his body.
Sapphy looked over at Rex, seeing him struggle on the ground as he commanded his pet to once again fire at Rex. The lizardfolk took her gun and aimed it again at Rex, but this time the weapon misfired. Sapphy, growing more angry, looked over at his pet and whipped at the gun, causing the lizardfolk to drop it on the ground. "You useless fuck. Why did I even bother having you as my special pet? I guess it's because of your unique class, but still, it's like you never even fought before. Just so fucking useless." Sapphy went over and kicked at his pet, who tumbled a few times over before collapsing onto the ground. "You just stay there and be a loser like these other two. I'll just finish this all to myself and when we are done, you are going to get it." Sapphy turned his attention back to Rex, who was able to expend one of his cure wounds on himself, recovering a bit from that previous attack.
Even for a wizard, and also being a bit heavier around the belly, Sapphy was a bit agile. He ran towards Rex, swinging his whip to try and strike down Rex. He missed many times, due to the nimbleness of Rex's body and his previous battle experiences in dodging. Still, Rex was a bit fatigued from his previous fights and his limbs were not able to move as well as he wanted to. All of his muscles throughout his body were tired, and only his sheer will was keeping him afloat enough to dodge all of Sapphy's attack. Unfortunately, Sapphy flung his whip at Rex and caught him in his arm, the whip wrapping around it and forcing a tug of war between the two.
"You! I will make you submit to me. Now just give up and bow down to me."
Panting, Rex held firm in his grip, trying to yank the whip away from Sapphy. "Heh...I'll never bow down to anyone, especially you. You have no regard for anyone around here, not even the person assisting you in this unfair fight."
Sapphy pulled back harder, causing Rex to stumble a little. "Shut up, you don't know anything about me. You don't know how much work I had to put into this place, just to draw you guys out here. I know you eliminated my other brothers, and now you are forcing them to work for you. I'll beat the living shit out of you once you are my pet for all the stuff you've done to them."
Rex gave off a short chuckle, as he felt an overwhelming amount of anger slowly stir within him. He looked back at Sapphy, with one of his eyes having an orange hue. "We are not forcing anything. Solrent and I, we rely on everyone who has helped us here so far. Not like you, where you just use everyone. We at least paid respect to your brothers. Rubrum, Spessart, Emmerette, all fought fairly against us. Even Zain, with his unique personality, at least that was a fair fight from the start. But not you, you just had to cheat your way to victory."
Sapphy tugged even harder, but noticed that Rex's grip on his whip proved infallible. "Just shut up. You think you know my family? You didn't even mention my other two brothers. What about King hmm? And what about the disowned brother of mine, Top? I don't give a fuck about him to be honest, he chose to leave the family, but you know nothing about the six of us anyway.
More anger fueled Rex, as he gave one last tug and yoinked the whip away from Sapphy's hand, leaving a burn mark on his palm. Rex grabbed the whip and broke the handle on his knee, throwing the split pieces onto the ground. He then looked at Sapphy, both of his eyes fueled with orange wrath. "You don't get to talk about Top like that. He at least cares about us, not like you. And I swear, it'll take everyone to stop me from killing you myself Chubbs. Just you wait. But for now, Solrent, just finish the job. Rex needs a rest."
From behind Solrent came charging at Sapphy, all of the guards that tried to stop him laid on the ground unconscious. Surprised at the sudden enemy in front of him, Sapphy tried to backpedal out of the way, but was too late as Solrent unleashed a barrage of stabs. Solrent moved with such deftness, it looked like he created illusions of himself as he endlessly pierced Sapphy's scales with his wishblade. After a few seconds, Solrent then reared back before he swung his spear up at Sapphy, pirouetting in midair before crashing down with his spear, piercing Sapphy in his heart.
Sapphy gasped for air as he collapsed to the ground, his blood spilling from the many holes that Solrent just applied to him. Sapphy struggled on the ground, writhing in pain and he said, "...No...Not like this...I am the winner here...just me..."
Solrent looked down at Sapphy and shook his head. "No, you will never win. Your selfish thoughts, your voracious attitudes in these master/pet relationships and fights, this is what you deserve, a death like this."
Rex slowly walked over, looking down at Sapphy as well. The anger in him slowly lifted, but still lingered. "...Chubbs...you'll understand...I hope you do..."
Sapphy coughed up blood, chuckling to himself once more, "Heh...we'll see...At least I did my job...it's up to...to...to..." Before he could give off his last statement, Sapphy laid limp as he closed his eyes, his body disintegrating from his feet all the way to his head. All that was left of him was nothing more than his sapphire, which Rex slowly bent over and held.
He looked over at Solrent and said, "Take this one back and let him rest Solrent. I can tell he needs it. And, don't tell him about this. I am already in a lot of trouble with Top, but please, keep what happened to Rex a secret. He will learn soon enough." And with that, Rex closed his eyes before opening them again, the orange in his eyes slowly returning to yellow. Rex blinked a few times before looking at himself, checking out his arms, legs, and the rest of his body. He felt something in his hand and he noticed the sapphire as he held it up to the light and felt a wave of voracity overwhelm him, an eagerness within him, but unsure of what it pinpoints on. "...Sol...what happened?" Rex then felt his legs grow weak on him as he started to collapse.
Solrent quickly grabbed onto his partner and helped him stand up. "It's a long story Rex, but on the bright side, we got the stone."
"...I see, that is good. But..." As Rex was about to continue his statement, the two noticed that most of the patrons had vanished with the death of Sapphy. Even the guards that held them captive disappeared too. The only thing left was the lizardfolk from earlier, still lying on the ground. Then, the ground started shaking, as if this whole place was about to collapse. "Oh no...we need to get out of here Sol."
Solrent nodded his head. "Yea, this place is a shitshow now. It's collapsing, we have to tail it out of here."
"Yea, but we need to grab her too. I think that is Nino. Can you carry both of us?"
"I'll try, here." Solrent crouched onto the ground. "Climb on back and hold on tightly, I'll grab her and we can fly out of here."
Rex agreed and climbed onto Solrent's back, wrapping his arms around his neck as Solrent ran towards the lizardfolk and scooped her in his arms. As the buildings started to collapse, Solrent flapped his wings as hard as he could and flew as high and as far away from the building as possible. Solrent flew towards the entrance of the town, but the combined weight of both his partner and the new lizardfolk. He could not take it anymore and fumbled in the sky. He looked back at Rex, informing him to brace himself as they all came crashing into the ground. Solrent used his arms to cushion the fall, protecting the lizardfolk in his grasp while Rex let go at the last minute and tumbled.
Solrent moaned loudly, the crash hurting his wings a bit, but he still felt a bit unscathed. "Ugh, that was not as graceful as I wanted. Oh shit, Rex." Solrent turned over and ran over to Rex, reaching out one of his hands. "You ok there?"
Rex looked up, saw Solrent's hand and grabbed it. "Yea. That fall was a bit much. I had to let go, so we didn't all crash together. Fortunately, I know how to tumble. Anway, how is she?"
Solrent looked down at the lizardfolk, who still had no emotions, yet tears were dripping down her eyes. "Hey, you ok there?"
"..."
"Do you have a name"
"..."
Solrent quickly turned his head to Rex. "Ummm got any idea?"
Rex looked at the lizardfolk, now noticing the many features she had. Her tattered clothes looked to be that of a robe, but the distinct purple cloak and green hair could not be mistaken for the identity of this person. Upon closer inspection, Rex noticed a collar on her. Rex placed his hands over the collar and muttered, Detect Magic, and a wave of energy filled his mind. "Mmm, just as I thought. There is something about this collar. We have to remove it. Now Solrent!"
"Got it." Solrent looked at the collar and tried to find any means of removing it. As he fiddled around it, he noticed something protruding from the back. Solrent pressed that indentation, and he heard a click, as the collar around the lizardfolk's neck came off and fell to the ground. The life in her eyes slowly came back, as she looked up at both Solrent and Rex, and cried.
"Umm..miss you ok there?" Solrent gently rubbed her shoulders.
"*sniff* Oh, thank you, you two for rescuing me from that back there."
Rex smiled, squatting and closing his eyes before casting another spell, cure wounds, on her as a wave of healing energy flowed within her. "I'm zapped for spells now, but I hope you are alright now Miss."
The lizardfolk smiled and leaned over to hug Rex. "Of course. You two saved me from that bastard back there."
"Care to tell us what happened?"
She nodded her head. "Well, to cut it short. I was off looking for rare artifacts until I stumbled into this town. I heard it was a deserted city, that no one would be here. I thought this would be perfect to find lost artifacts. But then, I heard commotion and came across this arena. I walked inside, and the last thing I knew, I felt something cold around my neck and I blacked out."
"I see, so you were just trying to find something?"
"You can see that. I am a seeker of ancient artifacts, and I love tinkering with things. Oh, I never mentioned my name, you can call me Nino.
Nino
Armorer Artificer
Lizardfolk
"Nino!" Both Solrent and Rex exclaimed.
A bit surprised, Nino said, "Umm, yes, that is my name. You guys make it sound like you know me?"
"Yes, we do. I think your old buddy and business partner Smith asked us to find you. He was afraid something happened to you."
"What Sol said. He wanted us to find you ever since you went missing. He is very worried about you."
Nino blushed, looking down at her feet. "Oh, well, that is very kind of Smith to worry about that. I truly appreciate him looking out for me."
"Do you remember any of the people here?"
"Honestly, I cannot. The only image I can remember was this rather fat dragon who I was always near. But, everytime I think about him, I have nothing but negative thoughts, like he was the reason I was in this and I have this agonizing migraine when I try to conjure up his features. It's like my body is rejecting him."
Solrent and Rex looked at each other, nodding and deciding to leave out the identity of Sapphy.
"Ok, well, we need to get you back to town quickly then. I think Smith would be happy to see you and we don't want to cause you any more pain."
"I couldn't agree more, this place reeks of disaster, especially that arena." Rex turned his head back to look in the direction, but noticed that the arena was no longer there, nor any people in fact. He would expect the patrons they saw inside to still somewhat linger around. "Wait a minute, where is that arena, and the people?"
Solrent looked over and noticed the arena was gone too. "Huh, I have no idea. That is quite strange."
Nino also looked, but after a few moments, came up with a conclusion. "I think it had to be a mirage. Maybe whoever was the king of the arena must be a master of illusions or something. I bet it was all fake, just like how this place lured me into thinking I could find some ancient artifacts."
"Yea, well. No use dwelling on this, we should honestly head back, you good though Rex, to walk on your own feet? And how about you Miss Nino?"
"Nino is fine, and yea, I can manage. That healing spell of yours though, Mr. Rex I believe, thanks for that."
"No problem Nino, I am very exhausted and spent, but I can walk back to town. Though, I think we may have to take a rest soon, nightfall is approaching."
Nino thought to herself, before reaching into her person and pulling out a bag. "Huh, I am surprised I still have this on me, but I think it should be in here." She rummaged into the bag and pulled out a rather heavy looking book. She closed her eyes and placed her hand over the book before muttering a few words herself, Magnificent Mansion, and a portal almost invisible to them appeared before them. "Well, I know it's not much, but maybe we can rest here. I knew this would come in handy one day. I always prep my Book of Infinite Spells with this particular one."
Rex's eyes widened again, hearing this spell for now the second time. "Wait, you can cast this spell? I badly want to learn this spell. It makes camping so much easier."
"Heh, well, technically, I cannot learn it. But this artifact lets me have access to it. Although, it comes with a price. It can possibly fizzle and actually hurt me. Anyway, why don't we just take it easy tonight and we can make haste tomorrow and reach town by nightfall."
Solrent and Rex nodded, entering the portal that Nino made for them as they were glad the journey today had finally ended.
The next day rolled and the three were able to make it back in town by nightfall. As Smith was closing shop, the three arrived and Smith broke down in tears of joy as he finally reunited with his partner. Smith thanked the two for rescuing his dearest friend, telling them that if they ever need any weapons and gear, he will hook them up as best as he could. He also informed Solrent that he is still working on making his new spear, and that he should finish by the end of the week. Nino also chimed in and said that if the two ever come across artifacts that need identifying, she will do it for free. The duo bowed, thanking their new friends for their future services. Smith and Nino bowed back, before waving goodbye and catching up on lost time.
Solrent and Rex walked back to the guild, but since it was late, Faladiel was not at the front desk. Instead, his assistance was there and saluted the two. Solrent informed her that they will check in with Faladiel tomorrow morning, and that he and Rex need to take some time off again before heading to the final location. The assistant understood and informed them that no one shall disturb them for the rest of the night and she wished them a goodnight's rest. Solrent and Rex slowly walked up to their room, freshened up, and crashed into bed, glad to leave everything that occurred in that town as nothing more than an afterthought.

Four dragonewts were rested around the hot springs, with the orange one furthest away from the door. They were all conversing with each other, but the orange dragonewt was rather silent throughout the exchange.
"Spaz, that was a bit risky for what you did back there. You know Top does not approve of us doing that."
Spaz sighed heavily. "I know, but you all saw what happened, especially you Roo. You saw how Rex was going to die and we can't let that happen."
"Yes, I know, but still, Top told us not to interfere, especially with Rex. He has to figure this out on his own."
"Yea, but if he is dead, then what can he figure out? All I did was just give him a little boost to defend himself with. Though, I admit I may have gone a bit overboard with beating that other brute. He deserved it though, for hurting my poor little Rex like that."
Em chimed in. "You really like that dinosaur, don't you? A bit surprising coming from you."
"Well, ever since I had my encounter with him, I have grown attached to him. I really like him, but I know he is Solrent's partner. I am not sure if he will ever fully forgive me for what I did to him, yet I will still do my best to protect him."
Zenny nodded his head. "Master and I agree. We too understand about seeking forgiveness, from Solrent on our part."
Roo smiled, singing off a soft melody. "Nice to see all of us bonding so well. Oh? So, does anyone know when Top and Chu..."
Right as Roo was mentioning their names, the door to the hot springs swung open and inside stepped a dark blue dragonewt. The yellow one stood at the door and spoke to him. "...You made this a bit complicated then it had to be Chubbs, but I understand why. Just say hi to your brothers and try not to bloody anything here. I forgive you for what you said about me, yet, I am sure not everyone in this room has the same feelings as me. I am going to my room to think about what to do next. You should explain to the brothers what we discussed and what the plan should be from here on out. Ok?." Top looked at his other brothers. "Guys, I'll be in my room. I'll meet you in a little bit for dinner. Chubbs is cooking tonight, and no, he won't poison us. He is the better cook out of all of us anyway." Top closed the door and started heading to his room.
All the brothers just stood still and stared at each other in silence. Spaz crossed his arms and closed his eyes, his face visibly angry at the current situation.
"Umm, hey guys. Nice to see you all again together."
Roo was the first to speak up. "Hi there Chubbs, care to join us in the hot springs?"
"No, it's alright. Maybe later after we eat. I have to go prepare dinner for us. I am just here to share some news that I discussed Top with. Umm...how do I put this? There is some good news and some not so good news."
Spaz's head twitched at hearing that, but Em spoke up. "Oh? What do you mean, good news and not so good news?"
Chubbs looked down at his belly, avoiding eye contact with Spaz as much as he could. "Well, we all know that King is the last one of us in the real world. The good news is that he has no idea about you all, like that you guys are theoretically alive. He assumed all of you had been eliminated, myself included."
Zenny was gently caressing one of his Master's tentacles. "Uh huh, go on. What is the other news then?"
Chubbs gulped to clear his throat. "Yea...so that news. King had a huge suspicion that I may be defeated, which I agree that I am not the most combat oriented amongst you all. So he asked me to mentally break down Rex as much as I can, so that when they do encounter King, our brother will easily put Rex in his place."
Spaz gripped his arms tightly, drawing a little bit of blood from his sharp claws. "...What do you mean by, putting my Rex in his place..."
"...King wants to make Rex his personal slave. We all know King's personality, him and his vainglory. Because of Rex's encounter with me, with his mind already so weakened, King will easily overpower Rex and make him his own personal slut." Chubbs brought his hands to his face, hiding in fear from Spaz.
Spaz opened his eyes, surging with anger and wrath. "Oh you fucker! I am going to kill you." Despite being in water, Spaz started rushing towards Chubbs, his strong legs allowing him to sprint easily against the pressure. Chubbs started to back towards the door in fear.
Roo, Em, and Zenny all looked at each other in horror, never seeing Spaz so animostic before.
"Wait till I get my hands on you, I am going to make sure not even Top can revive you."
Em looked at Zenny. "Zenny! Do something!"
Zenny closed his eyes, trying to communicate to his Master. "On it!" After a few seconds, more tentacles sprung up from within the springs and latched onto all four of Spaz's limbs, preventing him from moving.
Spaz turned his head towards Zenny. "Let me the fuck go Zenny. Don't make me hurt you too!" Spaz started to tug on the tentacles, but they did not budge.
Roo got out of the springs and stood between Spaz and Chubbs. "Ok, let's all take a deep breath here and talk this out."
"What is there to fucking talk? This fucking brother of ours wants to mentally kill Rex."
"Spaz, you have to understand, we all had those thoughts of wanting to kill Solrent and Rex in the real world. We did not know anything about this, about Top's plans and what not. You have to give Chubbs the benefit of the doubt. I am sure he and Top discussed this in great detail, right?"
Chubbs quickly nodded his head. "Yes Roo, Spaz. I didn't know about any of this and now that Top has rescued me, I understand the plan." Chubbs got onto his knees and bowed towards all his brothers. "I hope you all can forgive me for what I have done and said to you. I didn't mean it."
Spaz calmed down a bit. "Heh...sure sounds like you meant all of it when you were fighting me back there."
"And I apologize heavily about that. I know now the truth."
Spaz took a deep breath, and looked over at his brothers. Zenny relaxed the tentacles on Spaz, retreating into the waters below. Spaz slowly walked towards Roo and Chubbs, getting out of the water. He placed his hand on Roo's shoulder and patted him. "I am going to the gym, I need to destress by working out."
"Ok Spaz, we'll meet at dinner."
Spaz continued walking towards the door and opened it, turning his head and glaring angrily at Chubbs. "You are lucky that all your brothers are standing up for you. You may be the second oldest, but that doesn't mean you always have respect. You have to earn it, and it will be very hard to gain mine back. But, as long as you respect Top and protect Rex, I'll consider it."
Defeated, Chubbs slowly nodded his head. "Yes...Spaz..."
"Hmph." Spaz left the room and stomped all the way down the hall, to presumably the gym.
The other four brothers just stared at each other again in silence, before Chubbs broke the quiet. "I'm going to go prepare the food for tonight. I think I'll make some pizza."
"Oh, I'll take some of that yellow chunky fruit and some ham on mine," Em said cheerfully.
Zenny looked at him with a disgusted face. "Who puts those ingredients on pizza. That is blasphemy. I'll just take plain cheese."
Em shook his head. "What's wrong with that? Those are the best ingredients to put on a pizza."
"Yea, if you consider yourself a heathen."
"Guys, calm down. No need to bicker over this." Roo sighed, but smiled at the humor between his two brothers. "I'll eat whatever you want to make Chubbs, I'm not picky."
"Alright, I'll start working on them. I'll see you guys in a bit." Chubbs bowed to his three brothers and left the room and headed to the kitchen.
As Roo got back into the springs, Em and Zenny were still arguing about the proper ingredients a pizza should have. Roo just smiled, putting himself in between the two to prevent any further damage to the hot springs. Though, all three laughed, enjoying the company and humor amongst them. Roo just hopes that King, Chubbs, and Spaz will enjoy themselves like he has with Em and Zenny.

Bonus Scene
As Solrent and Rex prepared to rest for the night, they heard a commotion outside of their room. Footsteps were getting louder and louder before it stopped briefly. Then, a knock was heard on the door.
"We were informed we would not be disturbed tonight."
Catching her breath, the figure said, "It's me, Nino. Can I come in real quick?"
"Oh? Nino? Of course, it's fine, right Rex?"
"Yea, go ahead Nino."
Nino stepped inside and shut the door behind her, panting a little.
Rex handed her a cup of water, which she gladly drank down. "What brings you here?"
Nino reached into her sack and pulled out a familiar object to all three, the collar that she wore. "This!"
Solrent and Rex looked at the collar, a bit apprehensive as to why she would bring it. "And, why did you exactly bring this to us?"
"Well, you see. I played around with it ever since you left. Being an artificer, I like to tinker with gadgets and whatnot, and this thing really fascinated me. I learned that this collar, whoever it is put on, is forced to obey and listen to the person who placed it."
Solrent's eyes shifted confusingly. "Ok? So, I still ask my first question. Why did you exactly bring this to us?"
"I played around with it and fixed it so that it would not happen like that again. However, whoever wears it will be suggestive to the words of the person. If at any point they feel endangered or doing something completely against their will, they will be brought into reality and the collar will not have an effect for quite some time."
Rex leaned over to look at the collar, staring at it blankly. "And how do you know that exactly? And how do you know if that will work like you said it will?"
"To answer your first question Rex, I can't really explain. It just came to me and I hypothesize that is how it works. And for your second question, that is where you two come in. I was hoping to see if you guys would be able to test it for me. I know not right now, and not anytime soon. But if you two are ever in the mood..."
"Absolutely not Nino. Rex has been through so much already today. I cannot possibly put him through that again."
Nino gave off a little sigh. "Ok, I understand Solrent. But maybe can you two hold onto it."
"Why can't you and Smith?"
"Yea, I can't have it at the shop in case it could get stolen. And who knows what bad stuff can happen from this again, especially if my hypothesis is wrong. With you two being fully trustworthy with each other, you guys are the perfect pair to hold onto. And besides, no one can defeat you two, so this will never be put in bad hands."
"Still, I can't do this to Rex. Just seeing it is a bad reminder of what happened to him."
"I see...well, I get it. I don't want to impose any more than I have to. I'll hold onto it for now. Just let me know when then. I'll take my leave."
As Nino started to leave the room, Rex reached out and grabbed onto her hand. "We'll take it..."
Shocked, Solrent looked over at Rex. "Umm...are you sure about that Rex? That was a lot today. And this collar, you told me you hated wearing it."
"...I think we should keep it, so that it is in good hands. I don't want anyone else to be subjective to what Nino and I went through." Nino handed Rex the collar, which he quickly stowed in his own bag. "I'll hold onto it myself..."
Nino smiled. "Oh, thank you Rex. Now, I'll take my leave. Smith is cooking tonight, so I wonder what he has made for us. Till next time, have a wonderful rest of your night you two." Nino left their room and headed back to the weapon's shop.
Solrent looked back at Rex. "Rex..."
"I'm fine Sol. I honestly rather have it in our possession, then to say, have another brother obtain it all of a sudden. If what Nino said is true, then everything should be fine."
"But...the collar."
"Only for testing purposes. Nino gave us something as trust between us and her, and now this will be a bit of trust between you and me. Whenever we feel like it, let's share the results with her."
"Alright, only if you feel comfortable. And if at any point either of us sees something off, we stop, right?"
"Of course...but for now, it's sleepy time."
"Mmhmm, goodnight Rex, I'll see you tomorrow morning."
"Goodnight Sol."
