Chapter 2
#2 of Spinebreak Valley: Tales of the Wasteland
Once the house was on fire Jackal and Sara, his steed, left their former home once and for all. There was no turning back for him anymore.
The young but sick wolf only got one thing left to do. He needed to reach out for his former companions before the sickness kills him.
(In the further parts of the storie it will contain: sex, strong language, violence, use of drugs and alcohol.)
Jackal's way led him north and he drew near the mountains. With every step his steed took the closer they got to the mountains. His thoughts were still focused on his house he had burned to the ground after he killed the small otter. Jackal still remembered the moment when the fresh blood of his victim ran over his skin and fur. He still had the smell of the blood in his mind and could not forget it right now. He shook his head and tried to focus once more on the path that lay before him. The way in front of them was uneven and bumpy. Mostly the steed had to change the path she walked on.
>>Good Sara. You do this very well.<< He said to her and fondled her gently.
Jackal was aware that they needed to pass a smaller path that led through the mountains. With a little doubt in his heart he stared at them. As the mountains were covered in snow and surrounded by clouds, was a bad sign. Everyone knew that nobody should take the path near the mountains when they were covered in snow. But Jackal did not have any more chances than that. The other path he could take was too long so that he would never reach his destination fast enough.
"I doubt that this is a good idea nor that the weather will be suitable for my journey on this way. Well but there is no other chance than that. I can not afford any delay on my way to Bendrock City."
>>Okay Sara. Good girl! We go further, yes? There is no reason to be afraid. We can do this.<<
Sara seemed to get calmer even if that was almost impossible due to the fact that she was very calm right now. But slowly the cold winds of the mountains started to surround them. Jackal could feel the chill of the mountain winds and he opened the saddlebag and took his wintermantle out. Quickly he changed his jacket and put the other back into the bag.
Meanwhile his steed walked along the path into the hills close to the mountains. While the wind chill got worse Jackal looked at the sky. The clouds got thicker in minutes after they entered the hills at the foot of the mountains.
"If I do not be careful we may get swallowed by this weather. It is almost like a storm that hits this pass. Maybe I do need to find a safe place to set up camp!" Jackal thought.
The mountains rose before him and as they turned around the next corner the cold of the winter storm hit them right in the face. In one single moment a storm started and hit the mountains heavily.
>>Oh god damn it! We have to get out of here Sara! Come my sweetheart, we need to find some shelter really fast!<< Jackal said and he tried so hard to find his way through the snow storm.
With every minute that passed by, the snow storm got worse and worse. Jackal was aware that they needed to find a hideout. Without that they would not have a chance to survive this mess. But his hope was destroyed. The more with every minute that passed by.
"If I don't find a hideout fast we are done for! Damn that fucked up weather in these mountains! I almost have no sight at all. I can hardly see my bare paws in this storm and even don't know where I am heading! I must hang in! Somehow!"
Jackal thought to himself once more while his hope of survival had almost vanished.
"There is nothing more left. The cold is so harsh my paws are getting numb. Sara also can't see a thing in front of us. The light in my lantern is good for nothing. Well at least it is still burning! But it could not get any worse. It is the worst it could be! No more longer and I am done for. I can not head back anymore. There is no chance to figure out where the path is anymore! Snow is everywhere around us... That's it... isn't it? It's over, I guess." he thought depressively to himself.
With every single moment Jackal and Sara went on through this storm the worse it gets. Jackal almost had no feelings left in his legs and paws. They were nearly numb.
While Jackal and Sara continued on to venture through this storm the optimism Jackal bore inside him was about to vanish more and more.
"We won't make it, I admit." he thought to himself.
In the next moment he looked up and he saw only white. Nothing more. Then his vision faded and darkened.
The time passed by and Jackal suddenly came back to consciousness once more. Sara was about to keep him warm while the storm raged harsh and with anger.
>>Sara, my good girl. Leave me. Save yourself...<< the hyena said while he lost his consciousness once again.
His steed noticed that Jackal was unconscious once more and tried everything to keep him warm. The storm raged more and more and the steed was in fear. Suddenly a wall of snow and ice dropped before the cave, Sara dragged Jackal into it for quite a while.
And so it got dark around them.
