Lyra 2
Beneath the glow of streetlamps, a large gray SUV drove through the streets of Portland, Oregon. Behind the wheel was Adam Felladay, a fairly average male with light skin, brown hair, and golden eyes. To anybody outside the vehicle, Adam would appear to be its only occupant. But the fit young man was hardly alone; laying on the floor behind the front seats was a large snow leopard, a nearly full-grown female.
Her name was Lyra. Quite possibly one of a kind, she had possessed the gift of intelligent thought since birth, for reasons unknown. Just that morning she had revealed herself to Adam, professing her love for him through the link that now passed between their minds. He returned her affections with gusto. After an impromptu wedding of sorts, the two had become a mated couple, both vowing never again to part with the other.
However, the mere sight of a wild animal would be enough to make the average person panic. Even a hint of an inter-species relationship like theirs would undoubtedly see the local police pounding down Adam's door. Hence the reason Lyra was hiding below the window line. Nobody in the world could possibly understand their relationship; even though Lyra was a fully conscious being capable of making her own informed decisions, no other human would ever see her as anything other than a wild animal.

The brakes on the SUV squealed a little as Adam pulled into the driveway of his apartment complex. Next to him was parked a shiny black Ford Mustang, a car he had last seen driving away from the spot where he and Lyra had first met. The sports car belonged to his housemate and best friend, Jared Liska. Adam sighed; he knew Jared would be home by now, but still hadn't figured out how he was going to get Lyra inside without him noticing. That problem solved itself.
As Adam was stepping out of his car, the front door opened and Jared walked out. He gave Adam a surprised look and said "Hey man! I was expecting you hours ago! Where've you been?" Adam shrugged. "What, a guy can't stop by to see his family once in a while?" He was looking very tired, so Jared decided not to keep asking. "Whatever, man. As long as you made it back from that nightmare trip okay, it's good by me! I'm heading out to the store real quick, we're out of soda." With that, Jared brought the powerful engine of his car to life and sped off.
Adam quickly checked around to make sure nobody was watching from the darkness, then opened the back door. Lyra jumped to the ground, and followed Adam inside the still-open door to the apartment. Adam thanked his lucky stars for the way they had set up the apartment. Originally, it had been a simple two-bedroom unit with a common living room and kitchen, with a private bathroom for each bedroom. Since Jared played the saxophone, they had replaced the original drywall with soundproof material to avoid disturbing their neighbors, and added more solid interior doors with deadbolt locks to counter burglary attempts. The end result was a very quiet space, where the guys could study in peace and Adam couldn't hear Jared playing even from the next room over.
As Lyra's tail cleared the doorway, Adam quickly pulled it shut. Breathing a sigh of relief, he turned to his mate, gave a quick smile, and said "welcome home!" He then strode across the living room to his door, which was covered in pictures from various backpacking adventures, and opened the lock. Adam gave a wide, sweeping gesture into the room. Adopting a cheesy French accent, he crooned at Lyra. "Ze royal bedchamber, mademoiselle!" She gave a laugh, the sweet, soft tone of her voice sounding directly into Adam's mind. "Don't mind if I do!" she replied.
Lyra rubbed the length of her body across Adam's legs as she walked into the room, her footsteps silent on the carpet. The bedroom was fairly spacious for an apartment, and there had been no trouble fitting in Adam's queen bed, dresser, desk, TV, and small refrigerator. There was a large window on the far wall covered by a thick curtain similar to what you might find in a hotel room. Lyra jumped onto the bed, kneaded the sheets for a moment, then lay down facing Adam.
"Nice place," she said, fatigue beginning to show in her voice. "I could get used to this!" She folded her forepaws in front of her, then rested her head on top of them. Adam could hear her purring, just enough to be audible. "Good, because I don't think you have much of a choice. This is home for us now." He removed his shoes and sat on the bed next to her, then started scratching behind her ears. Lyra yawned, and a stream of hot air escaped her jaws. "As long as I have you," she whispered, "I'll never need anything else again."
This statement proved to be false, for Lyra's stomach chose that moment to growl. Adam smirked at her. "Never need anything else again, huh?" She snapped at his hand and growled. "So my body has other plans. I was being serious!" The snarl on her face subsided, and Adam chuckled. "I love you too. Let me see if we have any food for you right now."
Adam stood and walked out of the bedroom. He got a slice of leftover pizza into the microwave for himself, and pulled out half of a beef roast for Lyra. When both dishes were heated, he took them back. "Will this be good?" he asked, offering the roast to the big cat. She took a sniff, then picked up the whole thing in her jaws. "A little too cooked for my tastes, but still good. Thanks!" "You're welcome. So... How much do you normally eat?" Visions of large cats taking down prey much bigger than themselves flashed through Adam's mind. "Not as much as you're thinking! In the wild, even a smaller deer will keep me fed for about two weeks. In the zoo, I was fed about three pounds a day, and I came out just fine."
Adam did the math, and was relieved to find that he could afford Lyra's food budget. As the two finished their meals, Jared's car pulled up outside. Adam told Lyra to stay where she was and went into the living room, closing his door behind him. Just as he was sitting down on the couch, Jared walked in carrying several cases of cola and Mountain Dew. As he opened the fridge, he noticed the missing roast. "Dude, what did you do to the roast that was in here? I mean yeah it was a long trip, but a whole half a roast?" Adam shrugged. "Guy's gotta feed the beast!", he said with a smile.
After stocking the fridge with soda, Jared went to the door opposite Adam's, said goodnight, and went to bed. Adam grabbed a large bowl and two cans of cola from the kitchen, then went to his own room. He locked the door behind him. As he turned around, Lyra gulped down the last chunk of beef, then rolled onto her back. Adam couldn't help but laugh at the upside-down grin she gave him.
"Here's something you probably haven't tried before," said Adam, holding up one of the sodas. Lyra rolled back over and sniffed the can as Adam popped the tab. "It smells weird!" Adam turned the can, and had the curious cat open her mouth. He poured a small amount over her tongue, and she swallowed, her head quivering a little. "It's all bubbly!" she exclaimed, her eyes lighting up at this new discovery. "Sweet too! Can I have the rest?" Adam nodded, laughing, and poured the remaining contents of the can down her throat.
The rest of the night was spent teaching Lyra about the functions of the apartment. She learned to operate the toilet without trouble, and with a little experimenting she was able to use the bathtub to get herself drinking water. By the time they had finished, it was after eleven o'clock. Adam got undressed down to his boxers and joined Lyra in bed. He held his beautiful snow leopardess in a powerful embrace, and they kissed each other deeply for a long minute. The lovers fell asleep in each other's arms.

The next day felt like the longest day of Adam's life. His lectures seemed even more boring than usual, his concentration not being helped by the fact that he could still feel Lyra's presence in his mind. They were too far distant to speak to each other, but the occasional abstract thought would creep through both ways. As Adam drove to the supermarket where he worked, a mass of incoherent images wormed its way into Adam's brain. After a minute of puzzlement, he concluded that Lyra must have found a way to turn on the television. This made ringing up customer purchases interesting, to say the least. More than once somebody got irritated at the cashier who seemed to be staring into space.
At the end of his shift, Adam went up into the manager's booth to reconcile his register. As he counted out every bill, check, and credit card payment, Adam's supervisor walked up behind him. Matt Sarkisian wasn't exactly an intimidating figure, the middle-aged man was six inches shorter than Adam and a good fifty pounds lighter; Matt's ego was what scared him. "Having trouble, Felladay?" the small man said with just a hint of sarcasm. "I've had a couple of customers tell me your head was in the clouds."
Adam winced. "No trouble sir, just didn't sleep well" Not entirely a lie, he thought. Mr. Sarkisian scowled. "Well, you better be on your game tomorrow or so help me you'll spend your entire shift cleaning bathrooms. Am I understood?" "Yes sir, I will sir." It pained Adam to hold back from punching the infuriatingly self-important little man in the face. The only thing that stayed his hand was the reprehensible thought of Lyra going hungry because of his temper.
On his way out of the store, Adam stopped by the meat department and picked up thirty pounds of middle-grade beef. The man behind the counter gave him a questioning look when he made his order, and Adam mumbled something about hosting a big family dinner. He paid and left the store as quickly as possible.

The next two weeks were somewhat easier for Adam, though every free second was still occupied with thoughts of Lyra. She longed for his company as well, though she kept herself entertained with the TV and whatever Adam left out for her. He came home one evening to find her watching Judge Judy and trying to open a can of pop. Even though he knew Lyra was special, he still found it a novelty to see the large cat acting so... human.
Every night when they could manage it, Adam would walk with Lyra through the large, wooded park adjacent to their apartment complex, conveniently accessible through their back door. They were always careful not to walk near other people, though the only characters occupying the park that late at night were pot-smokers who wouldn't look twice at a man walking with a snow leopard. Lyra enjoyed it, but Adam still felt guilty that she had to be trapped in the apartment all day.
Lyra turned out to be a pretty horny creature, having just reached sexual maturity. Almost every night she and Adam would make love, and Adam was perpetually amazed that he could find the energy to match hers even after really rough days. The link between their thoughts made every second more enjoyable for both of them, and soon Adam's stamina was good enough to keep up with Lyra until they could both go over together.
The noise they made wasn't an issue, the sound-proof material in the walls could take even Lyra's most primal sounds down to an almost inaudible level. The biggest problem was the sheets; every few days, Adam could be found in the communal laundry room putting at least two sets through the wash. Once, a rather portly man from the other end of the building caught a whiff as they went into the machine. Adam froze, embarrassed, but the man just winked and offered him a thumbs-up.
Lyra had been living with Adam almost three weeks when Adam got blindsided by something that used to be a highly anticipated event; he and Jared's next backpacking trip. The last one had been when he met Lyra, and he had been so busy between her and his day life that he had forgotten all about it!
"So, for this weekend I'm thinking we go somewhere up in the gorge, like up past the falls," Jared said one evening over dinner. Adam flinched a little in his seat. "What, don't tell me you forgot! This is the only thing we have going for us! You honestly forgot?" Adam swallowed his food and looked sheepishly back. "Sorry man, it's been a rough few weeks. The gorge sounds good though!" Jared looked back at him suspiciously. "You got a girl you're not telling me about?" he said with a smirk. Adam nearly choked on a piece of chicken. "No dude! What the hell makes you say that?" "Shit, man, everybody knows the only thing that gets a guy to forget about his friends is some girl holding onto his dick. YOU'RE the one who was telling ME not to get into that until you want to be serious!"
"C'mon dude, it's not like that. My boss is being a pain in the ass is all, making me do stupid shit for my entire shift!" Jared was still smiling. "Whatever man, it's cool. So, the gorge?" "Yeah, that's great." Already counting on his answer, Adam asked "So, you wanna ride with me for this one?" Jared pretended to think. "Tempting, but I'll pass. The 'stang needs some TLC." "Okay then. Goodnight!" As Adam got himself into bed, he began to think of how this trip was going to work with Lyra stowed along...
* * *
The next morning, Adam loaded all of his gear into the SUV, made Lyra a makeshift bed out of spare blankets in the back seat, and drove off. Jared had left before them because he wanted to stop by their sporting goods store before they left. The trip to their spot in the Columbia River Gorge took a little over an hour. The couple spent the time talking, first about how their lives were going since moving in together at the apartment, then about how they were going to manage to stay together on the camping trip.
"I think this will work best if you follow us at a safe distance, and join me at night after Jared has gone to bed. I don't want to be separated, but there's no way we can let him know about us. I promise we'll find some time to go together, just the two of us." Lyra rested her head on her forepaws and gave a whooshing sigh. "I understand, I just wish we didn't have to be so secretive. It will be nice to be in the open forest again, though." "Someday," Adam said, "we will be able to get our own house in the woods, miles away from the worries of other people, where we can always be together." Lyra smiled at the thought.
The trail Jared had chosen for this trip was used much more than the previous one, and included a large, paved area to park vehicles. To Adam's relief, the lot was empty. Jared's black Mustang was nowhere in sight. Adam chose a spot in the back, and allowed Lyra to get out. He rolled the blankets and tied them to his backpack. "Okay, here we go. You should have no problem keeping near us in these dense woods, and it doesn't look like anybody else is out here yet. Still, keep a look out for other people." Lyra reared up on her hind legs, placing her front paws on Adam's shoulders. She gave him a quick kiss, then bounded off into the tree line.
After ten minutes, an echo sounded through the gorge. Adam went to the road, knowing exactly what it was. Sure enough, about a mile down the highway, a black dot was speeding through the heat waves, the car's big engine creating a booming roar as Jared pressed the accelerator to the floor. He was going very fast, and the engine note was growing higher in pitch. As he approached the parking lot, the car began to slow, but not quite enough to make the turn. Suddenly, Jared nailed the throttle again, causing the rear wheels to erupt in a cloud of smoke and spinning the car sideways! He let off the brakes, and the car rocketed into the parking lot, trailing thick white smoke. The roar of the engine was deafening.
Jared stepped out of his car, garbed entirely in black to match the Mustang's paint. "You like that?" he said, smirking at Adam. He pretended to be unimpressed. "I'd give it an 8." He really did admire his friend's car, but didn't show it to avoid inflating Jared's ego any further. "Whatever man, you know you love it." They grabbed their backpacks, and started hiking. Jared noticed the extra load on Adam's pack right away. "Dude, what's with the extra blankets? Not warm enough in your sleeping bag?" "No way, I just hurt my back lifting stuff at work and I wanted some extra cushioning." "That sucks, are you gonna be okay hiking?" "Yeah, I'll be just fine."

After several miles of trail, Adam and Jared arrived at a suitable camp site. Adam had been in constant contact with Lyra, and instructed her to hang back even further from the site. Adam had intentionally picked a spot where he and Jared could not pitch their tents side-by-side; they were separated by nearly 25 feet, with a table-sized rock in between. Close to perfect.
Adam received a surge of satisfaction from Lyra as she caught a large rabbit for her dinner, and sent her his congratulations. "Are you two going to bed yet?" "Almost, just finishing clean-up from our dinner, it'll only be a little longer. Trust me, I want you to be here too." "I know you do," she replied, a hint of seduction coming through on her voice. Adam smiled.
Their conversation was held entirely between their minds, but Jared noticed Adam smiling. "What's so funny man? Do I have poison ivy on my ass or something?" Adam quickly returned his consciousness to his present location, and cleared his expression. "Not yet, but you better watch out for it! I was just thinking about Luke sitting on his couch doing nothing while we're out here, is all." "Hah, that guy doesn't know what he's missing! We should make him come on the next one." For the rest of the evening, he has much more careful not to give any hint of communication with Lyra.

By the time Adam was ready to go to sleep, the sun had sunken below the horizon, and the forest was quickly disappearing behind a veil of blackness. Jared had retired to his tent on the other side of their campsite, and had been asleep for over half an hour. Adam sat next to the remnants of their fire, taking care to extinguish every ember. A twig snapped in the distance, and he casually shone a light in its direction. A pair of floating yellowish-green spots looked back at him.
"Is it clear over there?" Lyra asked. "Yeah, you can come over now. Just keep quiet, we don't need him to wake up." With barely a sound, the feline darted through the trees to Adam's side. She sat on the ground next to him, their faces level. "It was hard, having you so close yet out of reach," she purred. "I found ways to keep myself occupied, of course, but..." Adam cut her off. "I know exactly how you feel," he said. Turning to face her, he grabbed her upper body in a tight squeeze. She licked his forehead. "What do you think, should we get some rest?" he asked. Lyra touched her nose to his. "Not just yet..." She had an urgent look in her eyes, and her tail was swishing.
Adam's tent was a fairly small one, intended for no more than two people. If you sat up inside, your head would almost touch the ceiling. Lyra had no trouble fitting inside, but Adam had to bend almost double to move around. He had unrolled Lyra's blankets to cover the floor. In the increasing heat of late spring, Adam had neglected to bring his sleeping bag, intending to use other means of staying warm.
The couple fit snugly side-by-side, and lay facing each other. Without any artificial light, they were all but invisible save for the moon filtering through the outside of the tent, casting a dim yellow glow that was only bright enough to make out basic shapes. Without hesitation, the man and the snow leopard locked each other into a strong embrace, then their mouths met and tongues entwined. Adam noticed Lyra's breath still carried a mildly sweet odor from her earlier kill. His pulse rose, spurred by the reminder that his mate was still a wild animal. He had a brief thought of what it would be like to disappear past those jaws...
Before long, both partners were breathing hard and deep. They separated their faces, and wordlessly began trying to find a suitable position for the tight space. Lyra rolled onto her back, positioned in the center of the floor, with her hind legs stretched toward her front. Adam obligingly rose to his knees above her, and grabbed her outstretched legs at the ankle. He bent down and kissed her on her sex lips. She was already becoming wet, and his face came away moist. Without the resistance of his undergarments, Adam had not realized until then that he was getting very hard; his shaft was a throbbing shadow against the creamy white of Lyra's belly fur.
"What are you waiting for? Give it to me good!" Adam could hear the suspense in her voice. She was just as ready as he was. Without further delay, Adam placed his head right up against her lips and nudged her softly and repeatedly. Lyra growled low in anticipation, and Adam could feel her ache as he delayed her gratification. Suddenly, he plunged in deep, and Lyra suppressed a roar. She was already very wet, and he slid in easily. Her sex was tighter than usual from all the walking earlier that day, and Adam could feel her pulse rippling the slippery flesh around his cock.
She moved with him, moaning with each thrust. To her, it felt like Adam was going to split her apart, being as tight as she was. She was loving every second! At each movement she arched her back just a little bit, her mind slipping into an ocean of pleasure and bliss. Lyra began to feel some kind of intangible change within her body, then a sensation like her innards had become a swirling cloud. She turned her head, curious, but succumbed once again to the ecstasy that encapsulated her every nerve.
Lyra's still thought about the ethereal sensations she had felt, but her body was still very much in the moment. Adam suddenly quickened his pace as he neared climax, but the snow leopardess beat him to it. Her belly rose into the air as her spine flexed and a spurt of fluid came out past the sizable intrusion in her loins. Adam followed suit, slamming his hips into hers as he squeezed and forced out every ounce of his seed into her depths.
The couple collapsed onto the floor, breathing heavily in the humid, musky fog that now filled the tent. It was a good five minutes before clarity returned to either of their thoughts. When they were again capable of moving, Lyra began to clean herself up, while Adam used a rag to dry the wet spots on their blanket. Lyra had since realized what she had felt during their intercourse, and knew that she held a gift for Adam. She marveled at this newfound discovery, anxious to share it with him, but chose to let it be a total surprise during a very special time.
After the lovers were finished cleaning themselves, they lay on the floor and enfolded one another in a full embrace. Sleep came quickly for them, each wearing a very satisfied smile that was invisible in the blackness.
On the other side of the campsite, Jared stirred in his sleeping bag. He thought he had heard some noise, but it had faded minutes ago. There was something else keeping him awake, some nagging thought, but he put it out of his mind and tried to fall asleep again.
* * *
Adam had set an alarm to wake him up earlier than Jared, to give Lyra time to vanish back into the woods. They did what comes naturally for lovers upon parting, then Lyra swiftly padded away into the foliage. The sound of rushing water mingled with morning birdsong, but Lyra's paws were silent. After a minute of reverie staring into the woods, Adam dressed himself in his hiking gear and left the tent, being careful to remove the fine silver and black hairs that clung to his shirt.
Jared came out of his tent a minute later to find Adam sitting on the rock, apparently in a very good mood. He jumped down, slapped his friend's hand, and asked "what's for breakfast?" Jared laughed dryly. "Freeze-dried omelets, freeze-dried biscuits and gravy, or sticks and moose crap. Take your pick." He withdrew two vacuum-sealed foil pouches from his bag, as well as a small butane stove and a tin cup. Before long, water was boiled, meals were re-hydrated, and they were ready to get back on the trail.
The highlight of their hike today would be the top of a nearby waterfall, and then they would explore the bowl-like area eroded out of the cliff side at the bottom. The hike to the top was difficult, following several steep, narrow paths. All the while, Adam and Jared marveled at the natural beauty of the forest. The earth was a deep shade of brown, a stark contrast to the lush green of ferns and tall Fir trees. The chirps of small birds echoed in the distance, and the ever-present sound of falling water added a sense of grandeur to the scenery.
After a while, the guys decided to stop for a break. Jared pulled a featherweight folding stool from his pack, and Adam selected a dry-enough log. "So, now we're miles away from the city, and I want to know what's been up with you lately." Adam looked up. "Like how?" he said, raising an eyebrow. "I don't know, it's like you've just kind of... clocked out. It's not like you to forget about our trips. I was surprised you hadn't thought of where you wanted to go this weekend." "I don't know man, I guess school is just getting to me. It's not exactly easy taking twelve credits AND working thirty-odd hours a week. And on top of that I have to put up with Mr. Sarkisian."
"Hey man, we're in the same boat. I'm not taking that many credits, but I work enough to make up the difference. It's not like my car just pays for itself." "Okay, fair enough. I guess I have been pretty distracted lately" (What an understatement...) he thought. "Yeah, you have. But, that's what bros are for! Anytime you just need to get away from it all, me and Lucas are happy to help." "Thanks, man." Jared waved a hand. "Anytime."
* * *
The rest of the hike up took less than twenty minutes. The top of the waterfall was incredible! There was a small river that wound its way through the woods, then just suddenly disappeared. The edge gave them the feeling of hanging on the end of the world, and the bottom seemed impossibly far away. Hundreds of feet below, there was a pool and then a thin line that snaked away into the distance. Miles away, the Columbia River was visible as a shimmering body of gold in the sunlight.
Jared stepped out closer to the edge, stretched his arms out, and shouted out into the void. Stepping back, he turned to Adam and said "This... This is why we take these trips. There's nothing in the city that can compare to this view!" "You said it, man!" Adam could feel Lyra taking in the sight through his eyes. "Wow, this is incredible!" she said, "I will never understand why your species chooses to live among gray stone when places like this are so close..." Adam replied across their link. "Well, that's why we take trips like this. How are you doing?" "As always, not as well as when I am with you, but I did manage to get myself some food, and I am having a bath in the pool way below you." He looked down over the edge, and sure enough there was a black-spotted silver dot swimming near the edge of the water. "Glad you're having fun! I'll see you in a little while."

Adam and Jared returned to their campsite that night thoroughly exhausted. They had made lunch at the waterfall earlier that afternoon, but neither had the energy left to make dinner. Jared crawled into his tent and was snoring within three minutes. Lyra joined Adam, who was sitting on a camp chair outside his tent. He ran a hand through her fur, and noticed that it was cool to the touch and softer than ever. "You had a good bath, I see!" She purred. "It really is good to be back in the outdoors. We should do this more often!" "Believe me, I would love to."
The couple crawled into their tent, and Adam unrolled another blanket over the top of them. He fell asleep with Lyra licking through his hair. The snow leopardess thought again about the gift she had for him. Eventually she went to sleep as well, cuddled close to Adam and sharing his warmth.

Adam had never been so disappointed to end one of their backpacking trips. This had been the best one by far, mostly because of Lyra being there to share the experience with. She left early that morning, and set off down the trail back to the parking lot. Adam took down his tent and repacked his backpack, but noticed Jared hadn't emerged yet. He walked over and tapped on his friend's tent.
"Yeah?" he responded. "Just checking on you, we should be getting ready to head out about now." "Oh... Sorry man, I just woke up with this monster headache. I took some painkiller a while ago, I'm just waiting for it to kick in." "That sucks! Are you gonna be okay?" "Yeah, just go on ahead and start heading out, I'm gonna be a while getting out of here." "Are you sure you don't want me to stick around and help you out?" "Nah, I got this. Seriously, just go. I'll be fine once this Advil starts working." "If you say so, dude. See you back at the apartment later!"
Adam was a little suspicious as to why Jared would want to be left alone, but didn't put any more thought to it. His mind was ahead on the trail with Lyra. He told her about what was going on, and she gladly rejoined him to hike back to their car. It took a little over an hour to get back to the parking lot, but it seemed like no time at all with each other's company. Adam's gray SUV was right where he left it, with Jared's Mustang just a few spaces over. There were no other cars there, leaving Lyra free to walk straight out into the open. Soon, the SUV was loaded and heading back down the highway.
Lyra was asleep in the back seat when they got back to the apartment. It was the middle of the afternoon, and people were walking down the street next to the building. Adam backed up as close as he could to their front door, and Lyra went inside as fast as she could. After putting away all of his camping gear, Adam went to the fridge. It was empty. "I'll be right back, I have to go get some food for us." "Hurry back! I have a surprise for you." The tone in her voice left no doubt as to what that surprise would be.
On the way to the store, Adam passed a large billboard for the lottery that showed the current jackpot. It was a staggering number, so Adam decided to get a ticket. As he was paying for a large package of steaks and a sub sandwich, he purchased a lottery ticket that was good for the next two drawings.
When he returned to the apartment, Adam noticed that Jared's car was still absent. Worried, he called his friend's cell phone. To his relief, Jared answered. "Hey dude, where are you?" "I just got back to the parking lot, I'm on my way back now." "It's pretty late, were you okay this morning?" "Yeah man, I just had one hell of a headache. I'm fine, I promise." "Alright, see you later."
Lyra was happy to have a meal, but she seemed anxious about something and obviously wanted Adam to join her. After finishing his meal, he did. Lyra was sitting on the bed, giving Adam a very clear look. "Now I can give you your surprise!" she said. "Now, take your clothes off and lay down." "Ooh, I like where this is going!" Adam said, and complied.
Lyra laid down completely on top of him, and looked right in his face. Her tail moved across his legs, and he could feel radiant heat from her nether region on his erect length. She sat up with her front paws on either side of his chest, and sank down onto him. She seemed warmer than usual, and to Adam's surprise, she didn't move! Lyra just looked right into his eyes, working herself further down over his shaft until she could go no further. Adam gave her a puzzled look.
"Last time, when we were in the woods," she said, slowly and softly, "I felt something strange, and didn't quite realize what it was. Afterwards, I realized what it was. It was the essence of my being. Everything that I am. And now that I know of it, I want to share it with you!" Adam's jaw dropped. "..... What?" But he didn't have a chance to inquire further.
Lyra once again became aware of the feeling within her, and channeled it towards Adam. He felt himself sort of move inside her, then a rippling sensation flowed over his entire body. Lyra stood and moved to the side, sitting to watch Adam. As she released him, the first change became apparent. Adam's cock didn't look the same as when it went in. Now it was longer and more tapered, with small spines around its circumference near the head.
But the change didn't stop there; far from it. Starting at the "epicenter", silver fur began to replace Adam's light skin, with black rosettes mixed in. His stomach and inner thighs received cream-colored fur. For an instant he felt as if his legs had turned to jelly. When he looked down at them, they had re-formed into the digitigrade style of Lyra's hind legs. His feet had become large paws, with black pads on the bottom surrounded by thick fur.
The transformation continued up Adam's body, covering his arms in fur and turning his hands into a shape resembling paws, but retaining his opposable thumbs. Pads appeared on his palms and fingertips, and he could feel claws appear on his fingers and toes. A long and thick-furred tail protruded from the apex of his buttocks. The last thing to change was Adam's head; his skull became angular and his face projected out into the muzzle of a feline. Finally, as fur covered the last remaining parts of his face, Adam was able to sit up.
"You look marvelous!" Lyra said, clearly very excited and pleased with herself. "What... What just happened?" Adam stood on his new legs, seamlessly adapting to their new architecture. He looked at himself in the mirror, and his heart just about stopped. Looking back at him was an anthro snow leopard, just a little taller than he had been. He swished his new tail behind him, then fainted and fell back onto the bed.

"You're awake! Good morning, sexy!" Adam awoke to Lyra in his face. He held up a hand, and nearly jumped out of his newly-furred skin. "So, that wasn't a dream... I really am..." "Yes you are, and I must say it turned out VERY well!" Adam looked into the mirror again, examining his new features. He now had feline ears on top of his head, and one twitched. His entire body was covered in thick fur just like Lyra's, silver with black rosettes. He opened his mouth, and saw that his teeth had been replaced with a set of pointed cat's teeth. His tongue was longer now, and not connected to his lower jaw. It was covered in soft spines on the top just like Lyra's tongue.
Cautiously, Adam looked down at his crotch. His new equipment had stowed itself in a fur-covered sheath, which was barely visible under the thick fur of his stomach. His tail was very muscular, and partially prehensile. The fur was thickest on his tail, with large black markings on the top side and an entirely black tip. Adam couldn't believe what he was seeing in the mirror. All his life he had fantasized about something like this, but now that it had happened it was far too surreal.
"So how do you like it?" Lyra purred. "This is incredible! How did you do it?" "I told you, I found my own essence and shared it with you. Now a part of me is part of you!" Adam was speechless. Never had he imagined it was possible for this to happen! "I love it, and I will always cherish your gift. But... How will I ever explain this to anybody else?" "Oh, don't worry. You still have your own essence, and should be able to return to your old appearance at any time." Adam was relieved. "Why don't you try it?" Lyra suggested.
It took a long time for Lyra to coach Adam into controlling the form of his body, but eventually he was able to shift at will. Every time he did, he got better at it and the process went much quicker. Soon, he was able to shift in under a second. "Now that you've got that down, how about a test drive?" Lyra said, making no attempt to hide her desire for his new form. The sex they had then was the longest and most intense session they had ever had. Adam could feel some of Lyra's wild instincts guiding his actions, and his new feline equipment gave them both no small amount of excitement.

The next day, Adam had to return to his normal life. He was more distracted than ever, and he wanted nothing more than to spend time in his snow leopard form. When he returned home that evening, however, he saw that Jared had still not come back from their camping trip. He called again, and it took several rings for Jared to answer. "Dude, where have you been?" "I'm sorry man, I should have just told you back at the campsite. Something... happened. I'll just have to show you." He hung up without waiting for a response.
Puzzled, Adam went inside the apartment. Lyra was waiting for him on the couch. He shifted into his anthro form and sat with her, telling her about what was happening with Jared. She assured him that whatever happened, she was sure Jared was just fine. It helped Adam to see her confidence. He got food ready for both of them, and they retired to Adam's bedroom for the evening.

Two hours later, the rumble of Jared's Mustang announced his presence. It was nearly midnight, and pitch black outside. Adam quickly reverted to his usual form and pulled on some sweatpants and a T-shirt. When he opened the front door, Jared was still sitting in his car, with the engine running and the headlights on. As Adam walked out, he shut off the engine opened the door. "Hey Adam, I didn't know who else to turn to on this one. I figured you would understand better than anyone else I know." As he stood up, he released the driver's seat to allow access to the back seat. Adam was shocked to see a large red fox jump out and stand next to Jared. "This is Kira, she is my mate."
