Drag'n'Drop Part10
#10 of Drag'n'Drop
A slightly softer episode, but I hope you all enjoy.
Never in Neebis's wildest dreams would he have thought that his idea would take off as quickly as it did, unfortunately though he knew he had made some enemies in the process. Initially some vendors were hesitant in adopting his food ordering program but once some did, they saw a huge intake of business. The unintended consequence for businesses that didn't adopt was that they were quickly being put out out of business as their customer started ordering from their competitors due to convenience .
Neebis had spent the whole day on the other side of the city getting vendors from other marketplaces on board, as he went to leave he sighed as he saw some of the stalls were closed for good. He had tried to convince them to join Grub-Wyrm but some were stubborn, citing that it was the in-person nature of the market which drew in the customers. But at the end of the day, Neebis still felt responsible for them closing up.
As he flew across the city to where his mate Reevain worked, he tried to push his guilt away. Taking a deep breath he took in the sights of the city, the sun was just off the horizon and he knew he needed to get back to the marketplace soon if he was to help with the evening rush.
His guilt shifted from forcing the stalls out of business to leaving his mate alone to work their stall. Her business of course was the first on Grub-Wyrm and their orders quickly started coming as word got out of their services. He knew she would be tired and sore tonight and wanted to make it up to her, he flew lower over the buildings than what was normal, on the hunt for a particular type of store.
His eyes narrowed as he scanned the buildings he flew over before he snapped to focus on one in particular, folding one wing he turned sharply and dove down to street level. The street was quiet and he landed outside the store, as he opened the door a bell chimed and the scent of flowers overwhelmed his senses.
He could hardly make out the floor as the whole store was filled with plants and flowers of all sorts of colors. He saw a portly looking yellow dragoness poke her head up from behind the counter. "Just in time, I was about to lock up" she said with a friendly smile.
"Sorry, Hello. I was wondering if I could get some flowers" he said nervously. Although growing up on a farm he didn't know the first thing about flowers.
"Well... You have come to the right place. What can I get you?" She asked with a chuckle.
"I... Um I'm not sure" Neebis said, overwhelmed with the choice.
"Ok, what's the occasion? Is it a birthday? a mateship ceremony?... A funeral?" She asked trying to read his reaction.
"It's for my mate, I've been busy lately and..." Neebis suddenly felt tears welling up, he coughed and shook his head. "Sorry, I think the pollen is getting to me"
The yellow dragoness's heart melted as she looked at the white and red dragon becoming busy with the label of a plant.
"I think I have an idea" she said as she started moving around the store. "Have you done something wrong? Or just want to say you love him or her?" She said with her back to him, cutting flowers from diffent plants.
"Her and Maybe both? She is pregnant with my child, and I've been kept away with work." Neebis said, and looked up at the dragoness.
"Well congratulations! What's her favorite color?" She said as she went to fetch some ribbons.
"I um..." His guilt hitting him hard as he realized he didn't know. She was having his child but he didn't know something as basic as her favorite color.
Noticing his hesitation "What color are her scales then?" She said, trying to remain upbeat.
"Teal! I know that one" he said, trying to make light of the situation.
The dragoness chuckled and collected some more flowers. Before arranging them in a boutique. "What do you think?" She said holding the flowers for him to see, arranged in a tight bundle was a collection of teal flowers mixed with white roses.
Neebis smiled and he felt his eyes get moist. "They look fantastic" he said with a smile.
She rung him up and he paid by tapping his tablet to the register. He thanked her with a bow and started to make his way out of the store.
As he opened the door he heard her call out to him. "If I may?" He turned to look back at the dragoness who was fidgeting with her claws. "It's going to be ok...." She started "Many mates are kept away from each other with work. but the fact that you are trying is a good thing, I'm sure she knows that."
Neebis wanted to say thankyou but his voice suddenly didn't want to work. He gave her a small nod in thanks and left the store. He blinked a few times and took in the sounds of the street before taking off with the flowers clutched in his front paws.
He took deep breaths as he flew, Trying to calm his mind. Today was Wednesday which meant it was the first day of the market week, as he slowly descended down into the market he noticed their was a queue of dragons trying to land and take off from the launch pad. He sighed and joined the holding pattern that the other dragons had formed. He looked down at the market place and could see it was packed. A good collection of the customers were dragons wearing harnesses for carrying food. He smiled knowing that his idea was very much tangible now. Even though Grub-Wyrm took a share of the delivery fee, between wanting to entice as many delivery dragons as possible and reinvestment into the company, their rent was still being paid by Reevains market stall. A part of him felt that he had just created more work for themselves but he tried to think of the bigger picture and hoped that he could turn a profit sometime soon.
Finally he was able to land and he quickly moved out of the way so other dragons could use the launch pad. He clutched the flowers in his mouth, the wind from flying had done a number on the petals but he hoped they would still be ok. He had to squeeze past other patrons and try not to knock over the few humans who still came to the market. As he approached the stall he saw his heavily pregnant mate, she was trying to carry an empty gas cylinder from the stall, it had obviously become empty and he quickly rushed over to help.
"Mrrfph" he tried to say through the flowers causing her to turn and smile. He grabbed the cylinder from her with his paws and she took the flowers from his mouth. "I'm here" he repeated.
"These are beautiful! She said and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "But I've got people waiting. Can you get a new gas cylinder?" She said nuzzled his throat.
"One gas cylinder for my beautiful mate." He said as he grabbed the handle of the cylinder in his jaws and headed to the back of their apartment building. There was a street on the back side of their building and there was a large lockable cage which gas cylinders were regularly delivered by truck. Although it was meant to be locked, keeping track of keys was such a hassle between all the street vendors, they often just had a chain dangling around the gate to make it look locked. He quickly dropped off the empty on one side and heaved the fresh one up with his jaws. His center of gravity shifted and he had to hold his neck in a tight s shape to stop himself from tipping over.
While reattaching the chain he couldn't help but shake the feeling he was being watched. He glanced up and down the empty street but saw on one. With a shrug he lifted the cylinder up again and quickly made his way back to the market.
As he approached the stall he saw Reevian talking heatedly with a delivery dragon who was trying to pick up an order.
"And I'm telling you, it will be done as soon as possible." Reevain snarled.
"But I'm in a rush, we get paid per delivery" said the dragoness who was waiting to collect the order.
Put the cylinder down near the stove and turned to the rude dragoness "remember you are representing Grub-Wyrm. So not speak to vendors like that" he said, his voice louder than he expected it to be.
"What's it to you strawberry shortcake?" She said, making fun of his white and red scales.
Growing up on the farm be was used to a lot worse insults. He smiled politely as he started to connect the cylinder to the stove. "Open your app and look at the 'about us' section will you"
Neebis had to concentrate on not cross threading the hose as he screwed it into the cylinder, he glanced up and saw the dragoness tapping on her tablet. He heard a slight hiss of gas as the hose was halfway in. He turned back to it, he always hated this part, being right next to a hot stove was less than ideal as the gas leaked. He wrapped a paw around the connection and quickly screwed it tight, the hiss dying as quickly as it began.
"I'm so sorry sir!" He heard from the dragoness.
"We all get paid per order. Please don't let me hear about this attitude from other vendors" he said and tucked the connected cylinder under the stove. Reevain swapped with him and she continued to cook, fanning the flames with her wings to bring the temperature up.
The dragoness took a step back and waited patiently, Neebis turned to his mate. "Where do you need me?" He asked.
Her jaw clenched slightly before she nodded over to the dishes.
"On it." He said, he could tell she was stressed and a bit angry with the rude delivery dragoness but after a few minutes he felt her tail brush against his and he wrapped his around hers, the closest they could do to a hug while they worked.
As the dinner rush started to end he wrapped a wing around her and pulled her tight. "I'm sorry." He started, "I didn't think this would be so hard" he added as he put his head into of hers, snuggling her under his jaw.
"I used to be able to manage this place by myself" she started, her voice starting to break.
"But that was before I started sending queues of dragons to your store" he said and held her close. "How about I stay here tomorrow and help?" He asked.
Reevain leaned into his touch, his warmth comforting her. She took her time, not really sure what to say. "I need you, but we need this to work." She said pressing her whole neck against his. "I had more remakes today, customers said the deliverers were eating some of the food."
He let out a deep sigh. Unfortunately this was another unforeseen setback. He didn't believe that all of these were instances were genuine, but customers making claims to get refunds. There was a significant amount more human customers raising these complaints than dragons, and dragons were usually a lot more vocal about their stuff being taken.
"I don't know what to do." He said defeatedly.
Reevains nostrils twitched. "Did you screw the cylinder all the way in?" She said as she pulled away from him and poked her snout under the stove. "Yup, that's gas" she said as she tried to reach under the stove that was still lit. She struggled with her belly but finally managed to get the seal on properly.
"You have to lock it in Neebis" she said and returned to his side.
"Sorry I thought I did" he said and wrapped his wing around her again, he felt her lean against him and he felt like that was the only thing he was good at these days.
Reevain could sense his glum silence. And looked up to nibble his jaw "thankyou for the flowers" she said loud enough for only him to hear.
He gave a weak smile and kissed her deeply, he appreciated the affection but looking at the stove and the mess that had been created through a busy day he still couldn't shake the feeling that he was failing his mate. The markets had quietened down significantly and they hadn't had a customer in a few minutes, but he still held his mate, both of them enjoying each other's company in silence.
"I'll clean this up, it's the least I can do." He said and lifted his wing off her.
"Neebis, it's ok. I can help." She interjected.
"It's ok. You cooked, I cleaned." He said as he grabbed a cloth. Reevian looked at him with a concerned look, she could tell something was troubling him deeply. "It's ok, I want to help" he said as he caught her gaze.
She came up next to him and gave him a peck on the cheek. "Thankyou, my feet are killing me" she whispered and headed up to their apartment.
Neebis fell into the routine of cleaning, he knew how to do this and at some level felt satisfaction in being able to do something positive. Each dish was a chip away at the mountain of dirty bowls and he slowly saw the pile getting smaller and smaller.
He took closed up the awning and took the rubbish to the bins, the market was closing and only a few stragglers remained. He couldn't help but stare at a drake and a woman laughing loudly as they passed him, he turned his head to catch a glimpse of her pulling the drakes head close for a kiss as they walked. He wasn't against mixed race couples but growing up on the farm there was a very traditional approach to relationships. He carried the full rubbish bag in his mouth, trying not to focus on the smell and tossed it into a rubbish skip near where the grass cylinders were kept. In the corner of his eye he thought he saw someone with a camera taking photos, but when he turned to look the ally way was empty.
"...Hipsters" he muttered to himself. It wasn't uncommon for budding photographers to take photos of the marketplace at night, or the alley way he was in. He closed the skip and made his way back to the apartment. As he was about to round the corner he couldn't help but look back, the alley was still empty and he felt a shiver go down his spine.
As he padded up the stairs to the apartment he could hear the tv, he closed the door to their apartment and saw Reevian on the couch with two cups of tea next to her. She looked to him as he entered and gave him a smile before lifting a wing inviting him to the couch.
His chest swelled as he made his way over to his mate, he put his head in the couch and then crawled into it with his eyes closed. He rolled onto his side against her and she wrapped her wing around him. The tv show wasn't anything he was interested in and he rolled over so he was belly to belly with his mate. He couldn't help but look up her in admiration, the tv reflecting off her scales, she looked tired but was focused on her show.
Glancing down he could see her large bump, their egg almost fully grown inside. He couldn't help but feel a bit ashamed of himself for feeling bad. He spent most of his days flying to markets and talking, yet she worked tirelessly to give them both a roof over their heads, all while being pregnant with an egg he caused.
He looked up at her and saw her looking down at him. "What's going between those horns?" She asked kindly.
He couldn't hold her gaze and instead became focused on the scales of her shoulder. "Reevian, Am I a good mate?" He asked finally.
"What sort of question is that?" She exclaimed.
"I, I don't know." He muttered. He heard her mute the tv with the remote and he could feel her gaze on him while he traced a claw on one of her scales.
"Neebis... What is going on?" She asked concerned.
"I just, I feel like I'm not pulling my weight around here." He said, glancing up to her face. He could tell she was concerned.
"Neebis, what do you mean? You are working on Grub-Wyrm" she said and kicked him between his horns like a mother would clean a hatchling.
"I feel like you have done so much for me, and all I have done is cause you more headaches." He said, closing his eyes as he enjoyed the sensation of her grooming him. "You offered me a place to stay and I got you pregnant, now I'm making more work for you, all while I should be by your side"
"Neebis, that's not... What... No! WE got pregnant, I'm pretty sure I had something to do with that. And we are in Grub-Wyrm together remember?" She said turning over to face him fully. "Just because it was your idea doesn't mean you are in this alone. I knew the risks, and I know we were going to be busy." She said and rested her head next to his and have him a soft peck. He closed his eyes and she could tell he wasn't convinced, she gave him another peck, and then another, and another, smiling she gave him a another and he finally started to smile. "There's my happy noodle" she said and tried to give him another, only for him to turn and kiss her deeply. She groaned into his mouth as he gently ran his tongue over hers. She wrapped a paw around his shoulders and pulled him close. Her tail intertwined with his and they enjoyed the feeling of their scales on one another. Reevian opened her eyes and quickly pulled away.
"Quick, this is the ad that people are talking about" she said and quickly turned up the volume. Neebis sighed and rolled over so he could watch.
The scene was black and white in a nior style film making, the camera was above a ceiling fan looking down at a grey dragoness on her back on a bed of silk sheets, it was clear that she was struggling with the heat as the ceiling fans slowly crossed the frame. It then went to a close up of her, she tossed and turned in her bed, her paws roaming down her chest as she squirmed in discomfort, her paws reached down to her groin which was just out of frame, her eyes lighting up with joy as something was happening off frame that caused her to gasp, the camera conveniently not showing her rubbing her paws over her vulva, but from the look on her face it was clear that's he was enjoying it, her eyes filled with desire and longing as she bit her lower lip and moaned wantonly, she arched her back as she sped up her movements and scrunched up her eyes in pleasure.
A doorbell interrupted her and her eyes opened, a look of happiness washing over her. The camera tracked her as she walked to the door, her hips swaying seductively and her tail slightly raised, but not enough to reveal her wet pussy.
She opened the door and the apartment was instantly washed in a warm glow, at the door was a very handsome drake with a harness around his broad muscular chest, the Grub-Wyrm logo on full display as he passed her the food.
"Here is your tip" she said seductively and pushed his nose back gently with a paw, his nose glistening with the fluids she had on her paw. She closed the door with a giggle and jumped onto the bed again, curling up with her food her body became the G in Grub-Wyrm. "For when you are too hot to go out, get a Grub-Wyrm in you"
As the ad ended, Reevain looked down at Neebis. "Really?" She said with a smile.
"Teeba's idea, not mine" he said and nuzzled his head into her neck.
"That is rude" she said with a chuckle.
"Honey, you are watching a game show about dragons and humans are stuck on an island, guaranteed they will fuck at some point" he said as he closed his eyes. Enjoying the sounds of her breathing.
Reevian gave a little laugh, "Well, it's good to show our origin story I guess" she could feel Neebis smiling against her as he gave her a little nibble on her throat.
Neebis's stomach grumbled loudly, interrupting their moment. "What did you eat today?" Reevian asked.
"I can't remember" he said and layed his head down.
"Can't remember? or haven't eaten?" She asked with a comforting tone.
Neebis paused for a moment "haven't eaten" he muttered.
"Neebis! No wonder you feel down. What do you want?" She said as she started to get up.
His paws wrapped around he and he held her close. "Nothing, It's ok, you have done too much cooking already"
She gave him a kiss on his snout. "What about pancakes?" And she felt him take a breath.
He snuggled into her and kissed her neck before his paws relaxed "Pancakes would be good"
