#2 of A Desert, A Dragon, And A Gun

A Desert, A Dragon, And A Gun "Fall back Everyone fall back " The man's orders were soon followed and the men quickened their pace as a whistling was heard in the distance. "Get that door up now " The old man ordered and was immediately complied as the large titanium door began to close. He could see the enemy charging in over the dune and retreated back into the complex as the door closed. Just as he made it in, he heard an explosion from outside the door as it sealed shut, he made it just in time before the bombs got to him. He looked around at the few survivors and considered his options. "Alright men, go back to the armory and grab everything you can get a hold of." One of the soldiers stood up and faced the old man who was in charge. He was very fatigued and was breathing harshly. "Sir... what are we going to do? We can't defeat an entire army and where are the reinforcements that were said to already be here?" The soldier and his friends starred at the general, waiting for him to give an answer as panic and fear started to set in. The general grabbed him and started to shake him vigorously. "Get a hold of yourself son, your scarring the rest of the men. The reenforcement unit will be here soon, we just need to hold out for a bit longer " He let go of the man as another on stood up and let his fears speak for him. "I bet they've already been wiped out." The general raised his rifle and aimed for the speakers head, he turned and became too scared to move. "The next man who speaks ill toward our current situation will have a bullet in his head, understood " He looked around the men who remained silent and slowly lowered his rifle. The soldier let out s sigh of relief as his current danger ceased. The wall shook violently as something rammed against the heavy door. "Quickly That door won't hold for long, get to the armory and set up traps through the entire complex. Well set up our base in the clone chamber, move it " the soldiers all sprinted away toward the armory, the general however went to the clone chamber to delete any and all data that was stored on the military's creations. He briskly walked along the steel hallways of the complex, down toward the bottom of it. The sand was starting to leak through the ceilings on the top level and could give in at any moment. If that happened the whole place would cave in and the Russian's could take whatever they could salvage. He stopped at the door and placed his hand on the scanner, nothing happened. "Dammit." He said under his breath as he began to push the door open manually. It slowly grinded against the floor as the man pushed it aside. He walked in and found the main computer as well as several cloning pods. The scientists have already been evacuated and were at least safe for now, but the data was never deleted. He needed to do that before the enemy could get a hand on it, if they did it would be the end of the long war and his country would loose. So instead of just normal deletion of the files he grabbed an EMP grenade and tossed it into the heart of the main processor. There was a silent click followed by a shower of sparks as the electrical circuits fried and became useless pieces of metal. The man tossed a normal fragmentation grenade after it to make sure it was permanently shut down. Though the EMP was more than enough to destroy it, the frag. was more symbolic to himself, to make him realize that the only data on making the creatures was gone for good and they would have to start from scratch, again. The wall shook as a violent blast was heard from all around the compound as well as the charging of many soldiers. The thirty that remained of the defense team built up small fortifications inside the cloning chamber. There was only one way into it and that would be their best chance at survival. Explosions were heard throughout the complex as the traps the soldiers had set were set off killing many of the attackers. Though the charge didn't falter, for every trap that was tripped, for every bomb that went off, more just seemed to take their place. They began to file through the single person door and were immediately fired upon. The general heard a static over his communications link and listened closely to the crackling voice that was barley coming through. "General...nearing po...respond, over " The general put down his rifle and took shelter behind a door that was set up as cover while he set up to respond. He took off the equipment and plugged it into the wall, allowing it to run off of the buildings power instead of the batteries, making it much stronger. "This is General Anul Bradshaw, whoever you are we are currently pinned down and in need of immediate assistance and support, over " There was silence on the other side of the com. as his soldiers continued to fire at the oncoming Russian infantry. The bodies were starting to pile up high and were used as cover by their comrades. "Roger that Bradshaw, help is on the way " The speakers voice then turned to whoever he was commanding and wind could be heard through the com. channel. "Alright men, welcome home. Kill without mercy and fire at will." There was a sound of cheering from several of the men that came through the link. "Alright General, the First Blood Unit will fight in flight " He heard cheering of several soldiers, none at all sounded human 'No... it couldn't be... could it?' Anul pondered for a second of the memories of thirty years ago before picking up his assault rifle and continuing to fire upon the enemy. He pulled his trigger and let out several rounds at the enemy, who were hiding behind the hundreds of dead soldiers. There seemed to be no end as they just kept piling up. He took note of ten of his soldiers that had been killed, three of them wounded. His unit was running low on ammunition and they could not hold out much longer. 'I really do hope they can get here soon. I would like to see how they've grown.' He really did want to see them, they had, in fact, grown on him. He was there to greet every creature the cloning lab produced, and had seen them fight one at a time. The thought of them fighting as one cohesive unit was frightening. Though it was almost made that way, each on of them had their own set of unique abilities and talents. "Sir, there are way too many, and they just keep coming " "Shut up soldier and get your head." A bullet when through the foolish mans skull as the soldier fell dead on the ground. "Dammit... die you bastards " "So leader, are we actually heading back home?" "Would I lie to you?" "No, of course not..." "Okay then. Ackim " "Yes, leader?" "You and Nylris will take the rear, make sure none get away, got it?" "Yes sir " Two figures that were hidden in the clouds took off to the left toward the read of the enemy line. "Irayo, you will take the center and do what you want from their, but show no mercy." "Of course sir " Another one of the figures lowered itself and dive-bombed toward the middle of the opposing army. "Ahina, I'll go inside, you must hold off any reinforcements that try and make their way inside, I doubt the general can hold out for much longer." "It'll be my pleasure." Her voice came and ended with a hiss as the two descended toward the broken in entrance of the complex. They were immediately attacked with flank cannons and AA. guns. The two dodged swiftly and gracefully as the shells exploded in the air completely missing their target completely. "Dam fools, I'll be sure to put them in their place " "Don't waste your ammunition when you can just use their's against them." "Got it. I'll be right back." Ahina spotted a large shell that was headed toward her. She didn't move and at the last second gently grabbed it at the point. Her thrusters on the left wing immediately switched to a full throttle as she spun around, with the shell in hand. She hurled it back at its cannon and it exploded inside it, killing all around the cannon with deadly shrapnel. She sped up and returned to her leader's side, waving in between the shells. "Everyone, report in." "Ackim, I'm doing okay I guess." "Nylris, these people are so stupid." "Irayo, ah, these humans bleed so nicely." "Ahina, taking position at the gate, good luck sir." "Of course, don't get cocky and make them bleed. Remember no survivors " "Of course leader, why would your black dragon let anyone get away." "Irayo, we're not here to torture, quick and painless, if you take your time you leave room for error." "Ack, you're no fun." "We're not here for fun." The leader landed in front of the door, his metallic, razor sharp, curved wings prevented anyone from further entering as Ahina landed on several of the soldiers next to him. He was in close combat and the black mask he was wearing projected every target with a single red dot. Half of his screen was filled with them, but he saw that they were gradually disappearing. He stuck out his arm and hit a few of the soldiers' faces in with his gauntlet. A deadly weapon that he had dubbed a liquid knife appeared in his hand from under the armored exoskeleton suite he was wearing. The liquid knife was a very difficult weapon to master and he had created it, all of his soldiers had a pair. It was a long and shaped like a Bowie knife, but it was just a little longer and thinner, also it had a two foot long wire attached to the end of the blade. This wire was lined with small razors that could cut mostly anything, especially the light armor and flesh of an infantry unit. Each creature in the First Blood Unit had their own specialized armored exoskeleton. Irayo's for example was designed for speed and stealth, since that was his specialty. His suite wasn't as heavily armored and some parts were even removed completely. They were designed by the creature that used them and it is their responsibility to make sure the suits worked properly. Each suite however was equipped with a pair of reenforced titanium wings, they were jet packs basically, with a more fearful and intimidating design. They could be removed and the wings could separate and be used as blades although the commander had made a special modification to his. He wasted no time slicing at all who got in his way. The blade cut through all who were in front of him while the razor whip sliced all who were unfortunate enough to be next to him. His body indented the floor and punctured it. His feet were inside hydraulic boots that extended up to his leg. This was to help ease the pressure off him if he was either running or he had fell onto the ground. Thought he weighed and extra 200 pounds due to the exoskeleton's weight he did not falter. He was going to fast for the screams of death and pain to even reach him. He heard gunfire around the corner and straightened his left arm. Part of the gauntlet opened up and a small chain gun presented itself. The four barrels on the weapon began to spin rapidly and unleashed a burst of gunfire. The bullets shot straight forward and each one aimed straight at the head of an individual target. The aiming part of it was easy since the heads were centered by a small red dot on their forehead. Though only he could see it since the dots were projected on the inside of his black face mask. The gunfire stopped and all of the targets fell onto the floor dead within a second. He slowed his pace to a walk and made his way to the door. "Sir what the hell is coming?" "Stand down soldier. He's a friend." They began talking among each other as to what could make such a loud noise. He heard the running of the soldiers he had missed on his charge through them. He sheathed his liquid blade and walked through the opening. "What the hell is that thing " The same soldier spoke as he raised his rifle at the head of the creature that had walked in. He was the only one not scarred to speak, as the other few stood still out of shock and fear. "Dammit, I said stand down soldier This thing could kill you in its sleep and you wouldn't feel it as your head slipped off you damn shoulders " Anul put down his rifle and walk toward the nine-foot tall figure that stood in front of him. "I've see that you've grown my friend." He said calmly as he stretched out his hand. There was a loud hissing noise as the creature lifted off the helmet of his suite. The atmosphere inside the suite escaping into the world. The soldiers didn't notice they were too busy staring at the creatures tail, covered by the suite. It was about five feet long and swayed back and forth with clarity and grace. They looked up and saw the creature had removed his helmet revealing his red, scaly muzzle. "No, it's just the suite. I haven't grown an inch since we last met." The creature took Bradshaw's hand and shook it, being careful not to cut up his hands with the metallic claws on the end on his fingertips. The soldiers starred at the creature's face, his snakelike eyes looking and studying each one of them. There was a series of ivory spikes on its head that looked like hair from a distance of twenty feet. His ears were pointed backwards and looked like they could work as fins. The creature's snout was long and slender, hiding several rows of razor sharp teeth inside its maw. He had a chain hanging from his neck, a standard dog tag that was customly made. "I see you still have the same tag I had made for you some long time ago Alratar." "Yes and I shall always hold on to it till the day I die." He replied grasping the tag around his neck tightly. Anul laughed at his little declaration. "Well then it'll be a long time then, I think the chair might rust away first." "True, but I always make sure that this is safe from the elements." Bradshaw stopped laughing and now had a serious face on him. "Something wrong sir?" "Yeah, more are coming." Alratar laughed at the seriousness he had taken. "What's so funny?" "I've got it already taken care of." He put his helmet on and walked toward the door and turned on the com. link. "Ahina Get away from the door it's gonna blow, over." "Roger that, moving twenty meters to the front, over." "Mind if I ask as if what you're just about to do." The creature took off his helm again to speak with the general. He had a large smirk on his face as he knelt down next to a puddle of a clear liquid. "Just watch sir." He replied as he scrapped the tips of his claws together creating a series of sparks the fell onto the liquid. It lit and immediately spread outside the door and along the walls. They infantry units could be heard screaming as thousands of them burned to death, none could make it out in time as the fire erupted through the entire complex except the room he was presently in. The other soldiers just starred at the creature, shocked at what had just happened. "You never cease to amaze me Alratar, so what is that liquid you have their?" "It's nothing really, just a better version of napalm. Lights and spreads quickly, nothing special." "Once again you underestimate yourself, this is an incredible tech. my friend. By the way how are the others doing?" The creature handed him his helmet and walked and sat down and a destroyed console. "Talk to them yourself." He said before sitting down. Anul slipped on the helmet and found the com. was already turned on. "This is General Bradshaw everyone report in." "Nylris, filling them with lead at the moment." "Ackim, getting ready to burn." "Irayo, slicing and dicing." "Ahina, sir the cannon is almost ready." "Good, I'm glad to see that you're all okay. Bradshaw out." He took off the helm and walked over to the creature sitting on the console. He was looking at the wreckage of the main computer and spoke in a saddened voice. "So, is that the end?" He said pointing toward the wreckage. "I'm afraid so, for now anyway. The lab rats have escaped unharmed, but I doubt they can remember your exact DNA code. They will try and create more, but in truth, I believe that you and your team are the last of the dragons to roam this planet." "I see... stay here until I come back and get you." The dragon walked away, sadness still present in his voice. He put on his helm and ran out the entrance, into the burning inferno head. "Sir, if I may ask, what is he?" One of the female soldiers stood up and faced the general. "He is a dragon and so is everyone in his squad. They were created here, in those pods behind you. Now that the data and procedure has been eliminated on how to create them, they are the last of their kind." Anul spoke, his voice filled with sorrow. They were like his own children, though he didn't approve of them ever being created, he treated them as equals not killing machines like the rest of the base did. "Sir is something wrong? I fail to see the problem here?" "Imagine, yourself with four other humans among a group of different species and being promised that more will come in time. Then all of a sudden something happened and now those humans can never get to you, you are stuck with the other four for the rest of your lives. The species you are living with sees you as freaks of nature and attempts to assassinate you several times. This is what's wrong. Also, the fact that I had seen them all grow from the time Alratar had stepped out of the chamber. To be honest, I kind of see them as my own kid and treat them as such." The female soldier was silent as the full impact of what Anul had said hit her. She sat back down and looked out toward the inferno outside. Anul sat down as well, looking at the computer that had been destroyed by him and muttered to himself "The last of the dragons..."
