My First Story Pt2 The Start of a New War

We all heard the reports, a squad burned to death by some giant beast. No one believed it, not even my Captain. But, satellite imagery and close air support told a different story. They had the pictures, but not the evidence, all the pictures were either blurry, or couldn't be seen because of all the dust and sand the said "monster" kicked up. I honestly thought it was just some government lie, but whatever. I walked into the Mess Hall and sat with my squad.
" Y'all hear bout' that squad."
I wanted to say "No it was just all over the news and we heard about it by our squad leader." But I kept my mouth shut.
" Ya, you hear there sending half of our battalion to investigate." That was my squad leader Sgt. Vasquez
" Luckily," he went on. " our squad isn't going, we are staying here on base defense."
I was relived, I walked outside and saw the "scouting force." It was at least 3-4 M1A1 Abrams, 7-8 APC Stryker's, and 10-15 Humvees.
"Well that's a scouting force isn't it." That was my Sgt.
"Ya, well got to be cautious right." I replied
"By sending practically all of our armor and men."
I agreed with him and walked away back to our tent, I sat in my cot and went to sleep.
I woke up hearing metal hitting metal, and my sergeant yelling for us to get up. I got up and ran out the tent, what I saw was horrific Out of all the men and woman we sent, we were down to, one tank and the turret wasn't even on the damn thing. We had no Stryker's come back, and we only had 6 Humvee's. Out of that, we had a very low amount of men and women come back. Half of which were burned badly. The ones that were not burned reported to the Captain.

The next day the report came in. Out of 132 people, 4 Tanks, 7 APCs, and 13 Humvees. We had only, 27 people come back, 15 of which had 3rd degree burns all over there bodies. 1 broken tank, which from the surviving men, the turret was ripped completely of by this "monster." All APCs were blown up in said battle, and the 6 Humvees, after investigation, had burn and claw marks on them. I was asked to interrogate one of the men that survived. I walked into the integration room.
"Well, hello." I started the conversation. "So, if you can remember, um, anything tell me."
"Ya, uh, I remember." He paused for a moment. "I remember, a lot."
"Alright from the beginning."
" Um, we were driving to that destination, and we got ambushed, hard, by like, these, I don't even now how to explain them."
"What did they look like?"
"In all honesty, they looked like an, overgrown lizard."
Two things hit me. One: he said they, so was there more than one? And 2: he said "overgrown lizard."
"Overgrown Lizard?"
" Ya, thing had wings and was flying around us, it was hard as hell to hit. They breathed fire too. Burned my entire squad. The talons on those things were able to rip through our tanks armor. Oh, and they were deflecting bullets."
I was writing all of this down. I shook his hand and walked out to give my report to the Captain.

I was assigned to a night op. The temp. in Afghanistan could go to 110-30. I was dropped near today's "scouting mission", the scary thing was that I was inserted solo. No teammates, no backup, the only thing I had was a Aerial Reconnaissance Drone that I had a camera on it. I looked up into the sky and saw the smoke cloud from the battle. I moved the drone over the smoke, I turned on thermal and didn't see anything except for the fire raging. I started to move towards the smoke. I walked a couple of feet and saw a crashed Apache. I inspected it. It had claw marks and burns. I thought, they are taking down aircraft to. I kept walking up to the cliff over looking the scene. I could easily see the blown up tanks and APCs. I wanted to go down to get a better look, but I was afraid that I was being watched. I attached a thermal scope to my Barrette 50. And surveyed the area. I couldn't see anything so I slid down the sand hill and walked over to one of the blown up tanks and took a couple of pictures. I heard my U.A.V start to pick up something. I started to walk out of there and got to the EVAC location. I threw done a red flare to signal my EVAC helicopter. My radio started to static.
"This is Whiskey 1-4, is the EVAC clear, over."
"This is Ghost 1, I caught one signal, got no recognition of target, over."
"We can not pick you up till area is clear, I would suggest huffing it a couple miles out, over."
" Alright, ETA 50 Minuets."
I started to move to the new EVAC, which was two miles out. I started to walk when I heard the sound of 3 F22s fly over head. My radio started to static again.
" This is Whiskey 1-4, Ghost 1 are you out there."
"This is Ghost 1, what's wrong,"
"We are under attack, we can not EVAC you, try and get back to base."
I looked up and saw my EVAC Chinook getting hit up by those damn dragons. The helicopter's fuselage start to smoke and then ignite. The helicopter started to spin out of control towards me. I dived out of the way of the helicopter but still got hit with a piece of shrapnel in the arm. I got up and started to run. I got a good mile away, my U.A.V still overhead. The sun had started to rise, I shined a flashlight on my arm and had a 2 inch wide piece of shrapnel in my arm. I grabbed my med kit and pulled out the shrapnel and put a cloth around it. I kept walking and saw one of the U.S bases in the area and radioed in.
