Ch 2: High Court
Imported from SF2 with no description.
The High Court sat upon the top of the Mountain Fortress itself, at the very peak. The journey was a short but sharp distance up a steep slope along a winding path upon exiting the fortress itself from one of the higher tiered exit points. In his neurosis Sovereign had declared the sky around the fortress his alone to fly in, any others flying in the area including his own offspring would be heavily disciplined if they were caught, all in the name of secrecy.
As the peak of the mountain begins to plateau, Calamity finally stops with the flirting, a slight reprieve though an expected one, if he were caught trying to entice the Sovereigns heir, he'd likely face a similar punishment to being caught flying in the area. The High Court was laid out similar to an open amphitheatre, with four tiers surrounding a central staged area that anyone aside from the Sovereign himself had to enter from. Each ring typically held three attendants from the three upper dragon classes at any one time with my Sire shadowing them all at the top single central pedestal.
Dragon classes are determined by the number of individual horns grown. I have eight horns in total, placing me in the royal class with my Sire. I have two small horns perched at the tip of my nose, one under my chin, three large sized horns atop my head, along either side and centre of the parietal of my head and a pair of medium horns, one on either side of my head.
Retractable spikes ran along the spine of my neck trailing the length of my back to the tip of my tail, the tip of which has a fan of five bone like blades that curve symmetrically inwards which I can group to a single point, becoming akin to a Partisan spear like shape, extended out they resemble that of a Corseque. In either case my Sire would often express his pride in the 'Fine weapon' I adorn upon the tip of my tail.
A brief flash and a rumbling in the distance bring me back from my moment of self reflection, dark clouds bloomed overhead, the gloom certainly set the scene. I sometimes wondered if this was my Sires doing but it was only rumour that he could control the weather. I would not put it past his secrecy to keep such a power to himself, considering his godly nature however, I would not put it past the realm of possibility.
The High Court was devoid of the usual convent of dragons making my Sire look all the more imposing upon his black obsidian pedestal at the peak of the stands while I stood on the platform right at the bottom, the same place as any of the hopeful dragons that might attend, desiring to pitch new ideas, make a report or plea their cases if they were standing trial, all wishing the dragons above would make a justified decision.
Calamity stood to my right and on my left stood a fair looking three horned and red scaled female who seemed to fidget nervously as she sat in place. She looks briefly up to me and smiles while I stare, giving me a surprising wink with her pretty green eye before bowing.
What an attractive lesser class. The thought flashes through my mind, but I halt that train of thought before I could let my imagination begin to run and distract me from the pressing glare of Sovereign up on high.
Sovereigns chest puffed out as he addressed me once I'd sat myself in place, much like the thunder that rumbled from the distance, his voice is deep and growling “Dominion" it booms overhead as Sovereign's eyes lock with mine. “Time for you to prove your worth over my domain" He says demandingly.
Sure, because I'm so eager to do your job and deal with the dragons of -your- domain it's -truly- what I desire...
“You are to enter the Nature Realm and retrieve the Life Relic from the Totem Temple and bring it back to me, understood?" Sovereign states, matter of factly.
“Understood Sire" I respond obediently, feeling the metaphorical chains of obligation around my throat tighten. Despite the undesired circumstance of the task, it was still a realm extraction, which meant I would have to enter another realm entirely and survive whatever potentially harsh conditions would be thrown my way. My excitement would be palpable if I weren't able to mask my emotions as well as I had trained myself to do.
I'll be free from the Dragon Realm, this 'Great Dragon Domain', the monstrosity of this Mountain Fortress. So many obnoxious dragons trying their damnedest to impress my Sire to further their own agenda. Pathetic Wyrms.
Once more my Sire pulls me from my thoughts, his voice rumbling out “Obviously your ward must follow you." A quick glance to Calamity and I spot a slight mischievous grin giving away his emotions, I know he'll be more than happy to be alone with me in secluded and discreet areas. “However, I doubt he is capable of protecting you." The grin disappears as Calamity takes the insult to heart and bows his head down low.
“I am quite capable of taking care of myself" I rashly retort in Calamities defence, a mistake but worth the price.
“SILENCE!" Sovereign roars. A shiver goes down my scaled back as the other two wince, something I miss as his fiery red eyes pierce down to my very soul and keep my pupils locked to his. There's Sovereign's fury, that which I know all too well. He breaks the eye lock when he's satisfied his intimidation is set into my bones, turning to face the female.
“Inferno, your Sire Incinerate has sent you here to declare your loyalties to me." She nods gracefully, pleased with the idea. Another brainless lamb. “I have decided to decline the offer" Her face droops to a disappointed scrawl. “Instead you will declare your loyalties upon my descendant, Dominion and serve under him" Inferno glances my way, unsure of herself then smiles and nods too eagerly for my liking.
“Absolutely my Tyrant" Inferno answers. Definitely too eager.
“I am no longer your Tyrant, you answer to Dominion and only Dominion for he is your Tyrant now, understood!" Sovereign commands.
“Yes my-" She stops herself from finishing the sentence, hesitating for a moment as she tries to find a correct title. My Sire smirks, his trap becoming realised. Had he intentionally set her up to fail?..of course.
“I give you two hours to prepare for your journey, make sure you leave on a full belly. Don't be late to the gateway. Dismissed!" Sovereign retracts from his pedestal and turns to retreat to his private quarters within the mountains peak. So nice of him to be thinking about my well being. All three of us turn to descend the steep slope.
“So my Tyrant, what title do you wish to bestow upon me?" Inferno asks.
Title? Right of course, like how my Sire placed the title of Ward on Calamity.
“Well, I don't exactly have a domain, I don't know you nor am I aware of what you are capable of achieving. So I guess you will have to prove your worth before I make that decision." I'm blunt but honest with my answer. She takes a moment of self reflection before nodding and saying nothing else. I look to Calamity who seems to be in a world of his own. I'm stuck with a buffoon and an untrustworthy amateur. But...I get a modicum of freedom.
