Chapter 2 - A Date?
The blaring rock music from his radio-alarm clock woke Ken up. He grabbed his forehead from the slight headache he still had and rubbed his temples in hopes that it would lessen the pain. His head throbbed with each of his heartbeats, making him wish he could pull out his brain just to stop
the pain.
"Ibuprofen" Ken muttered, hoping that a pain killer could help or ease the pain that was screaming and pounding to the front of his skull. He stood up from his plain bed and immediately regretted it. The blood pumped to his head fast and the entire room spun for a few seconds. Ken grabbed on to a nearby dresser to steady himself.
Ken's headache had been cause by a few stress induced symptoms. His mother had twenty questions about where he had been and why he had been out so late as soon as he walked through the door. His father was angry that he hadn't checked in for awhile. But those were barely the real reasons why he had a headache. Nick was the main reason why.
The damn arctic fox was still in his head. Ken couldn't believe that he had done THAT with Nick. After all it was just one night and he was another male. And the kiss was still on his mind, that intoxicating kiss. To top things off, he had to go see Nick today. How would he react when he would see him?
What really was troubling for Ken was what he felt. He liked that kiss, he moaned at the thought of touching the fox's fur, and he longed for the feelings that the fox stirred in him when the fox went down on him.
"I shouldn't feel feelings for these memories", Ken thought to himself, "It isn't right. I'm not gay!" At that thought the image of him and Nick kissing popped into his head. It had flashed through his head too many time since last night, "Damn that kiss!"
Ken's mom walked into his room right as he was putting on the last of his clothes. "Doesn't she ever knock?" Ken asked himself.
Ken's mother was drop dead gorgeous. D-cups, curves in all the right places, long flowing black hair with blond highlights, and had black fur all around. His mother had received enough modeling contracts to make a pinata with, she turned them all down. Her current job right now was being a manager at the shipping yard.
"Uhm... Ken?" She asked in the voice of an angel. Ken's mother was the perfect description of a "delicate flower", not very assertive, and was kind of pushed around by the people of the community. Ken's father never bossed her around, if anything her worshiped her. He would get her a tiny present every week and on anniversaries and Christmas he would give her things that went beyond true love. Ken wanted a relationship like his
parents.
"Yeah?" Ken replied, turning and facing his mother.
"Lizzie called earlier and I didn't want to wake you, but she wanted me to tell you that she's sorry. Is there something wrong happening between you two?"
Lizzie... her name made Ken's stomach turned at the mere mention of here name, "Yeah, there is a problem between us that I rather not talk about it. You can tell her that I forgive her if she calls back, I have some business to attend to at the library" Ken told his mother.
"Oh" Ken's mother said looking down... she like Lizzie more than any of Ken's other girlfriends, "Would you like a lift?" she asked.
"No thanks I preferred it if I walked" Ken said slightly nervous about what would happen if his mother figured out about what happened last night.
Ken made it out of his house without any other obstacles, his father was too mesmerized by the newspaper and his breakfast that he may not of noticed him walking out. Ken walked feverishly to the library; probably the longest "b" line he had ever done in his life. It was 12:15, he was only a little date. He would just tell Nick he was interested and all of this chaos would just go away. Ken found where the gate was and just stood there debating.
"I'm not very good at direct approaches, if I don't even show up, he'll get the message" Ken thought, while turning around a began walking the other way, "Then again it is mean to just not show up, that's like dumping a girlfriend with a text message" Ken's mind reason. He turned around and began walking towards the gate again, "But after what me and him went through last night I wouldn't be able to look him in the eye at all, it's better not toshow up" Ken reasoned and walked away.
He got a good hundred feet away, when the image of them kissing popped into his head. Then it was followed by him imagining holding the fox close to him in a strong embrace. That was shortly followed the image of Nick stroking his cheek gently. Ken sighed, he knew nothing would go back to normal unless he confronted the fox. Heading back to the gate was a little embarrassing, he checked to make sure no one would see. He lived in a small city so it wasn't hard. Ken took in a deep breath and walked in.
At first Ken didn't see Nick, but he soon saw him on the double swing that was barely holding on. Nick was staring at the ground while gently pushing himself back and forth with one of his legs. He was wearing blue shorts with a black top. The light was hitting Nick in such a fashion that it seemed that he was glowing.
Nick heard the gate closed he looked up and saw Ken. His blue eyes pierced right at Ken's heart. Nick gave him a warm smile and Ken immediately felt weaker. How was the fox able to do that?
"Hello Ken, I'm happy you came" Nick said with a small grin. His tail swished behind him in pure excitement.
"It's nice to see you too Nick, listen I think we should talk about last night" Ken blurted out, trying to get to the point as soon as possible.
"Sure, sounds like a plan" Nick then patted next to him on the swing.
Ken, obediently, yet again followed the command and sat next to Nick on the swing. Despite the cushions on it being extremely old, they were still quite comfy. Ken got a little nervous hearing the entire swing groan underneath his weight.
"You sure it's okay for both us to be on this old swing?" Ken asked, his tone showed how nervous he was.
"If it breaks we're only going to fall about two feet, nothing to be really nervous about" Nick stated. Nick then leaned over and rested his head on Ken's shoulder while wrapping both his arms around Ken's one. Ken didn't know why, but his heart rate was accelerating.
"
Listen I think what happened last night was a little... okay so I think the main thing is... Life is like a box of chocolates... what I'm trying to say is" Ken couldn't get what he was thinking about out in the open. Part of him wanted to end all of this, but another part actually wanted this to continue. All the while Ken was torn up on the inside.
Nick was giving Ken the look of confusion from his weird stammerers, "What exactly are you trying to say?" Nick asked.
"I... I... I don't know" Ken said hanging his head in some sort of defeat.
"Well if your done making incoherent stammering, partial statements, and botched up lines from movies, I had an ideal for what we could do today. I was thinking that we could go on a date" Nick suggested.
"A date?" Ken thought, "Me go on a date with another guy?" The image of him and Nick on a date seemed abstract and foreign to the stallion's mind.
"It could be really fun, I could show this place I go to all the time, it's really fun" Nick stated while bouncing a little from excitement, "But I also don't want to force this upon you. You seem a little uncomfortable with what happened last night and what's happening now"
"There he goes again with his psychic crap!" Ken urgently thought.
" I don't want to feel that I forced you into this" Nick stated letting go of Ken's arm, "So I'm only going to ask you this once, no matter what your answer is, I will respect it. Would you please be my boyfriend?" Nick asked a little eager and nervous.
"Did he really just ask me that?" Ken thought to himself, "I have never had a attraction towards a guy, I've never even had a gay friend, last night was a little uncomfortable, and I don't know how my parents would react to this if they found out and I really don't want to! The answer is obvious!
Ken gave Nick a serious look. He exhaled slowly in an uncomfortable manner. "Sure, why the hell not?" He told Nick with a small smile.
Nick was filled with tons of joy and threw his arms around Ken. He was little surprised to feel Ken hug back. Nick then embraced Ken in a powerful kiss, locking their lips with a passion. Ken kissed him back with just a much passion and he liked it, hell he loved the kisses he shared with Nick. He now knew that Nick was his boyfriend and they were dating, it was little odd to him, but he wanted to try it, with Nick.
*An hour later*
So Nick was now leading Ken to a place he often enjoyed. Ken and Nick both lived in a small city, so Ken didn't know where Nick was going to take him that he hadn't been before. Ken was also nervous, he felt like everyone was looking at him, as though they knew somehow.
"I promise, you have not been to this place, it's kind of exclusive. And now since you're my boyfriend, I'll get you a first class ticket in" Nick explained to Ken excited.
Ken, on the other hand, looked around him in nervous way. He checked to make sure that no one had heard Nick revealing their new relationship. Ken knew that he liked and wanted to be near Nick, but he wasn't sure that he wanted anyone to know about it. In his town once someone knew something, everyone would soon know it as well. Ken felt electricity and fear fill his body when he felt Nick entwine his hand with his very own.Ken quickly pulled his hand away in fear.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not entirely comfortable with the whole "holding hands" thing, it just seems a little odd to me still. You understand don't you?" Ken asked Nick. Nick a little saddened by Ken's remark, but he nodded his head to show he understood.
After about fifteen more minutes of traveling in utter silence, Nick, thankfully, arrived at their destination. Ken was a bit disappointed, it was just a "mom and pop" ice cream store, which Ken had been to a few times. And aside from the facts that the place wasn't exclusive or new, Ken hated ice cream.
"Wow, this place is REALLY special huh?" Ken asked with sarcasm as his new accent. Nick gave him a dirty look and motioned for him to follow. Ken followed nonetheless.
The ice cream store was just like any other. The temperature dropped by about ten degrees as soon as you enter. One or two other furs were still in the store eating the ice cream they had just bought. The store was more colorful than it should be, that it gave you the illusion that you were in a play ground rather than the actual store. And even though it was an ice cream store it had the faint smell of cake.
Nick went up to the counter. Behind the counter was a perky, happy go-lucky lemur. She had a smile so artificial that you would think she was related to Barbie. Nonetheless she still had a respectful tone with her customers, so who cared if she wasn't really smiling.
"Hey Nick it's good to see you again, do you want another double scoop cone with cookie dough and chocolate?" The attendant asked Nick with a perky tone that somewhat resembled a volley girl.
"Oh no thank you" Nick whispered to the girl, Ken then realized Nick was sliding a ten dollar bill across the counter to the lemur very slowly,
"I would actually like a double scoop number eleven with rocky road and key lime" Nick still whispered. Ken looked at the menu; there wasn't even a number eleven, it just went up to a number ten. Ken was very curious to what was going on.
"Sure no problem" the lemur whispered to Nick while taking the ten dollars. She reached under the counter and pulled out a key and handed it to Nick. "Have fun" the lemur whispered. Nick then started walking towards the back while motioning Ken to follow him. Ken followed suit.
Nick then used the key he had been given to open a door that Ken had seen but never even thought of opening. He thought it was probably a supply closet or a storage unit for ice cream. Nick opened the door to reveal it was stairs leading down to a basement, Ken could hear faint abnormal sounds coming from the basement. Ken walked in first, Nick followed behind him. Nick closed and locked the door behind them and they both proceeded down the stairs.
Ken realized the abnormal noises got louder as they went further down the stairs. When they reached bottom, the Ken couldn't believe what he saw. Games. A bunch a games were filling the basement of the ice cream store. He saw a few other furs who were playing ski-ball, some old shooting games, some old fighting games, and a few other miscellaneous games. The furs down there gave Nick and Ken a seconds stare before returning to their
games.
"How long has this been down here?" Ken asked Nick with a confused look upon his face. He didn't have the lightest suspicion that there was anything beneath this store. "Why is this even here?"
"It's an underground arcade" Nick began explaining, "It's been here for about six years. The staff here has a selected a few furs in town, mostly kids and teenagers, to enjoy this arcade. Ten bucks for six hours, they make quite a pretty penny with this"
"Why not tell the whole town, they could make even more money on this" Ken pointed out.
"Well the thing is" Nick then got closer to Ken and practically whispered, "They haven't been paying taxes on this and if the government found this out now, they're would be a huge fine and a couple years of prison ass rape for the owners of the store. So, needless to say, we keep this secret"
"Great another secret to keep, let's add another on top of the pile of lies I have made" Ken thought a little scornfully. But he had to admit knowing and belonging to a secret that only a select group knew was a little cool.
Nick walked over to the row of ski-ball machines and started one up. The sound of the balls rolling down to the opening, sounding like a little stampede, hummed all the way down. Nick grabbed the ball, these balls were made of a soft wood. He rolled it up the small ramp and went into the top hole. "Bet I can kick your ass at ski-ball" Nick taunted Ken slightly with a little mischievous grin.
"You're on" Ken replied with a tone cockiness in his voice.
* Thirty minutes later*
Nick threw his last ski-ball into the top corner hole. "Alright I win!" He cheered. "If my calculations are correct that leaves me with fifteen wins... and I forget, how many do you have Ken?"
Ken was slouched over, he had a grim face. The last thirty minutes had not been very fun. "What do you mean, I didn't win any!" Ken replied back to Nick. Nick was a lot better at this game then Ken had originally thought.
"Hey cheer up, you can still kick my ass at any sport any day of the week" Nick reminded him. That statement cheered Ken up a little. "Here let me show you my favorite game in this entire place" Nick said heading in a particular direction. Ken followed behind. Nick lead them both to a game that Ken actually knew and recognized. It was a DDR.
"You like to dance to moving arrows?" Ken asked skeptically. Ken always thought the people who got on DDR's were anime addicts with no lives.
"Yeah, got a problem with it?" Nick asked as he selected his difficulty, going all the way over to hard and selecting it. Nick then quickly went through the listings of songs and selected one that seem to perked his interest. Nick got extremely jumpy waiting for the first of arrows to come. Ken watch Nick dance to the song. Ken had to admit the song was catchy and what Nick was able to do on the platform was impressive. After all three songs were
finished Nick seemed a bit happier.
"Here you should try" Nick said outstretching a hand towards Ken. His smile dominated his face.
"I don't think so" Ken replied back. "There is no way I'm getting on that" Ken thought to himself.
"Aw... stop being so difficult" Nick said grabbing Ken's arm with both of his. He dragged Ken up to the other platform.
"I don't really think I should. I've never done this before" Ken said a little unsure. He didn't really know how to react, now that he had been dragged to the platform.
"Stop worrying so much, I'll start you off on light" Nick reassured setting Ken's difficulty to the beginning level. Nick then went directly to a song that he had probably pre-determined. "Now just relax and have fun" Nick instructed as the song began.
Ken knew what he had to do, but as he soon figured out like most beginning DDR players, timing was a key component. He would stomp down on the correct arrow, but it would be either be too soon or too late. And the ones he got mildly right were worth low points. Ken got a D rating at the end of the song.
"I should stop right now, this game is meant for other people, and I feel like everyone is watching" Ken protested wanting to stop playing the game he was bad at. He didn't know why, but the fact that he was doing so bad was leaving an uneasy feeling.
"No one is watching you, except for me. And I'm enjoying the sexy view" Nick stated, he earned a tiny blush from Ken, "You need to relax, besides no one is expert at a game that they just started. I bet you'll do better this time"
Ken soon found out that Nick was right. He did much better on his second song. He was actually starting to have fun on the machine that he thought was for those with no life. Ken was starting to actually enjoy his first date.
*Four hours later*
Ken and Nick walked out of the ice cream store laughing. Nick had just told a funny joke. Ken's laugh slowly died off. He had really enjoyed his day with Nick. After the DDR machine He and Nick played some shooting games involving disturbing creatures and plenty of blood. Ken doubt Nick knew had to fire a real gun, but give him an electric one and he could fend off a zombie apocalypse. Ken got to know Nick a little more and vice versa. Ken couldn't believe he hadn't notice someone as neat as Nick in his school.
"Thanks, I had a really fun time today. It's been awhile since I've had so much fun" Ken thanked Nick. Ken wasn't lying either. With Lizzie, every date felt routine even if was different each time. With Nick it was spontaneous and exciting.
"Your welcome" Nick replied, "I'm glad you had fun today. Not bad for a first date with a boy huh?" Nick asked. Ken nodded in response.
Ken had a very fun time. Nick turned out to be someone he could really enjoy himself with. "And to think you were going to break it off this morning" Ken thought to himself. Ken then saw Nick's hand beside his body. They were both walking home and Ken was a little curious. Ken had held Lizzie's hand she wasn't half as fun as Nick. Ken walked up next to Nick and then entwined his hand with Nick's.
Nick was shocked at Ken's sudden show of affection, but he couldn't complain he had wanted to hold Ken's hand all day. The impulses of joy that riveted throughout his body with the contact was to die for. Nick leaned against Ken while walking, enjoying the warmth Ken emitted. Ken smiled at Nick's show of affection.
"Aren't you afraid someone might see?" Nick asked Ken.
"Surprisingly I'm not really concerned what anyone may think of us" Ken replied, then he planted a kiss upon Nick's lips and felt whole.
