Chapter 2:A song and a wish
Alex woke up to the alarm, smacking it off as usual and looked around his room groggily while rubbing his eyes. He smiled, because for some reason he felt like today was going to be special...and he didn't have the slightest clue why.
He threw his covers off and headed for the bathroom like he did every morning. He had a morning routine and had not strayed from it since he was about 10. He stepped into the shower cubical and turned the water on and gasping, now fully awakened due to setting the temperature too high and turning it down immediately, muttering something about being burned. He began washing himself and started to hum something softly and happily while his mind started to think about random subjects. 'Breakfast, schoolwork, David, family...waittaminute' he shook his head 'Bad mouse, need to stop thinking about David!' he shouted in his mind, knocking his head with his paw to erase the thoughts...

Alex found himself picturing the muscular bat in his head and couldn't help smiling. He lost control of his mind as it pictured David naked and Alex smiled broader. Alex now turned to his mother "I honestly don't know why mom, I just want to get to school for some reason"
They where interrupted by a honking of a horn outside their house and Alex got up, slinging his bag on him "That must be David, bye mom, bye dad" kissing both of them on cheek and almost dashed through the door.
His parents looked at each other in slight confusion, saying together "David?"
Alex got into the car and grinned at David "Mornin"
David grinned back "You look rather happy today, how come?" he said as he started driving towards the school.
Alex looked though the window "I'm not sure actually, I'm just feel happy today."
David smiled, focusing on the road "That's good" he paused for a while and when they were at a traffic light he turned to face Alex "Hey, can I ask you somthin?"
Alex turned his head "Yea, sure"
David blink "I heard that you get really good grades for everything from Sam and Jeff"
Alex blinks, he was sort of a nerd, enjoying doing things with his mind like reading instead of his body, the only physical thing he liked was running "Yea, I guess so"
"So I was wondering if you could help tutor me on mathematics, I really stink in that department"
Alex thought for a moment and then answered "Sure, anything to help a friend"
David smiled and turned his head back to drive "Thanks man, you're the best"
Alex looked away at the comment, trying to hide his light blush " So when can you come around?"
David thinks for a moment "Ummm...how bout we start tonight around 7:30ish and we can choose which days to do it from then on"
Alex just nodded "Cool"
The rest of the drive was silent until Alex nervously asked as they parked and got out "Want to spent the night at my house?"
Alex felt like kicking himself for asking such a stupid question, thinking ' of course he doesn't want to sleep over you nitwit, what the hell are you thinking!?'
David gave him a look as they approached the large school building and finally said "Sure, that would be nice,"
Alex's ears picked up at this, thinking he was hearing wrong as they walked through the glass double door entrance of the school and past large crowds of furs. He smiled broadly at the bat and they went their separate ways to their lockers.
Alex could not believe what was happening. Here he was, obviously crushing on someone and he was going to spend a whole night with him. Of course they would be doing math but it would still be nice to spend the time being in the person's company.
Alex walked off to his first class of the day, Math and Alex smiled at the irony, the very subject that was getting him time to spend with his bat friend, sitting down at his desk and looking around. Sam, Jeff and David had already arrived, with the two dogs sitting behind him and David next to him. Alex smirked, realising that in all of his classes he was sitting directly next-to David. David flashed a smiled at Alex, muttering "don't laugh if I get something wrong" making Alex chuckle.
The bell rang and their math Teacher, Mr Rino, A lion began teaching, giving them a little lecture on algebra and eventually giving them some work on what he said. Alex looked over at David for a second and could see he was having a bit of trouble understanding the work. He wanted to help the bat very much.
The bell rang again and Mr Rino announced, "Finish this task for homework if you did not finish it now" as furs scurried out.
Lunch came and the four furs sat at a table talking. David got up to go to the bathroom and Sam and Jeff ceased the opportunity to talk to Alex alone, Sam asked, "You like him don't you? Smiling.
Alex blushes and looks down "Yea, I do..."
Jeff grinned at him "You made a good choice on this one, he's a pretty nice guy and he's sexy"
Alex mumbles "But I don't know if he's gay or not"
Sam and Jeff look at each other and then back at Alex, starting to talk together "Why don't you ask him?"
Alex blinked at the question and gave them a look between angry and worried " I can't ask him that!"
Sam frowns "You can at least try"
Alex sighs and takes a big bite of his lunch, after swallowing it he says, "Maybe I'll try, but what if he takes it the wrong way"
Jeff smiles supportively and pats him on the back "You'll never know unless you try"
Alex sighs again and notices David coming back, muttering "I'll try, no promises" to the two before David rejoined them, ending the conversation.
The end of the day approached rapidly, but there was still one thing left in the day.
The schools entire population poured into the school's large hall. Alex choices a seat near the front, just in front of the stage and next to his Dalmatian friends. He was not able to spot David though, but forgot about it as the doors to the hall close letting the last of the furs inside. The school principal, Ms Bersey, a rather large and threatening white tigress walked up onto the stage and spoke into the microphone "Good day to all of you. As you know, its that time of the year again" She spoke in a slightly excited voice.
A few whispers of confusion echoed through the audience and Alex reckoned he was the only fur that remembered what day it was, taking the earplugs out of his pocket as the principal went on "That's right, its time for the school's annual Karaoke Sing- along!" still in excited voice
A large amount of groans came from the audience. On this day everyone would sit in the hall and two people would be chosen by spotlight to sing a duet, always a love song. All the furs in the school dreaded this day and most tried to forget about it, which was why no one remember it was today. Alex had never been chosen to sing on the stage, and he did not want to. But the real reason he hated it was because most of the furs in his school could not sing, so its like torture to listen to them. Alex put a pair of earplugs in his ears and offered his friends the other two he brought, but they declined. "Ok, but its your funeral" he muttered and sat back in his seat, hoping that this whole thing would go quickly.
Two stools were placed on the stage for the two that sang to sit on and lights began to pick furs one by one and by the end of the 3rd pair, Alex had fallen asleep with his earplugs blocking all sound out. The principal announce that there would be one last couple singing and the lights began to dance around the hall. Two things awaked Alex, one was the spotlight shining brightly on him and the other was Jeff nudging him on the shoulder and pointing up at the stage. Alex groaned and removed his earplugs. He looked around to see whom his partner was but the light that picked the other fur was too far in the back to see. Reluctantly, Alex made his way up on the stage and sat down on one of the stools, looking straight down at the floor. Alex was actually a good singer; so at least it would not be that bad, he just hoped his partner was ok too, which he douted. He looked up at the person that was now sitting next to him and gasped. It was David...
'OH MY HOLY SACK!' was what his brain told him. He could not begin to comprehend the awkwardness of the situation. He was just about to sing a LOVE song with another male in front of the whole school. Most of the people in the audience snickered, the others clapped mockingly. Alex looked down at Sam and Jeff, who winked at him and directed their eyes to David.
"Hey, looks like we gona havta sing together" said David smiling kindly.
All Alex could do was nod slowly and grip one of the microphones given to each of them.
David gave him a reassuring smile that seemed to say "don't worry, you can do this." Alex looked down at the floor again as he heard the song's introduction. He didn't bother looking at the words one the screen telling them what to sing, simply because he knew the song and slowly lifted the microphone to sing "I've been living with a shadow overhead, I've been sleeping with a cloud above my bed, I've been lonely for so long, Trapped in the past, I just can't seem to move on..." he looked across at David, gesturing him to go on.
He smiled and stared kindly at Alex's face as he sang "I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away, Just in case I ever need em again someday, I've been setting aside time, To clear a little space in the corners of my mind,"
Alex's mood brighened alittle as he found that that David could sing too. He stared back as they sang together "All I want to do is find a way back into love,I can't make it through without a way back into love,Oh oh oh..."
Alex smiled brighter and started to sway gently along with the song "I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine, I've been searching but I just don't see the signs, I know that it's out there, There's got to be something for my soul somewhere,"
David follows the gentle sways of the mouse "I've been looking for someone to shed some light,Not somebody just to get me throught the night,I could use some direction,And I'm open to your suggestions"
They both grinned at each other slightly dazed "All I want to do is find a way back into love,I can't make it through without a way back into love...And if I open my heart again, I guess I'm hoping you'll
be there for me in the end"
They took turns making the ooohs and other sounds of the song at that point. David had somehow managed to entwine his and Alex's tails together and Alex didn't seem to notice, starting to sing again "There are moments when I don't know if it's real, Or if anybody feels the way I feel, I need
inspiration, Not just another negotiation"
They started singing the last part together again "All I want to do is find a way back into love,I can't make it through without a way back into love...And if I open my heart to you, I'm hoping you'll show me what to do, and if you help me to start again, you know that I'll be there for you in the end,"
They finished off the song a couple of os and ahs again and David reached out and held Alex's paw, still Alex did not notice in his daze as the music slowly faded away...
Most off the audience were clapping now, not mocking clapping but actual clapping to applaud them both. Some furs even whistled and shouted.
Alex stared into the bright pink eyes of his crush in awe and daze combined. He looked around at all the people applauding, smiling broadly. His eyes made contact with Deff and Sam, who had a 'follow our eyes' face on them. Alex followed their eye line and blushed deeply, noticing his tail and paw linked with David as he stared with a lovly smile at Alex. He reluctantly let go off the paw holding his and untangled his tail, standing up after David and they both bowed to the cheering crowd.
"You two were AWESOME!" Sam shouted excitedly.
"Forget that, you two ROCKED!!!" Jeff yelled gleefully
Alex did his best to avoid any eye contact with the hyper dogs or David "C'mon guys, we weren't that good..."
Sam smirked "Oh, I'm sorry, were you not there when the whole high school screamed for an encore from you two, that's NEVER happened before"
Alex blushed and risked a look at David, giving him a 'help me!' face. The bat grinned, noticing the blush "Guys, knock it off, your embarrassing Alex"
Sam and Jeff just snickered and whispering as they passed through the exit and headed a different direction as Alex and David. Alex felt the need to change the subject really badly, so he asked, "You sure you can come over and stuff?"
After that sentence, the double Dalmatians stopped dead in their tracks and turned around to listen as David replied, "Yea, sure my parents won't mind, they'll just be happy I'm doing something to increase my grade"
Sam and Jeff came running back with Sam asking excitedly "Why ya going over to Alex's house?"
Alex answered for David "He wants me to tutor him in maths, apparently you two suggested me" giving them a look.
Jeff blinks sounding disappointed "Is that all?"
David nods "Yea that's all, why do you want to know?"
They both smiled and start talking together "Don't you worry bout us, just try to have some fun while your at it" they gave Alex a sly look.
Alex returned their look with a look of annoyance and waved as they split ways again.
David turned his head to face Alex with a grin "You didn't tell me you could sing"
Alex smiled "I took a few classes when I was younger...How did you get so good?"
"Well, my mom is a really good singer, so I asked her if she could teach me. She used to sing to me everyday and I wanted to be just as good as she is...Hey, do you sing a lot?"
Alex rolls his eyes, saying sarcastically as they got in the car "Sure, my showerhead is very proud of me"
David chuckled and drove off. The drive was perfectly silent from Alex staring at landscape pass them by while David focused on the road. When they were almost at his house Alex blurted out "Hey David, are you gay too?"
David did not seem phased by the question and very calmly answers, "Yea, I am..."
Alex sighed with relief and got out the car. His mood was slightly happier hearing this information and waving at David as he drove away "See you later!" He smiled and put a paw on his chest until the car was totally out of sight, sighing happily as he went in.
Alex found his parents sitting on the coach when he got in. This was new and Alex still needed their permission for David to say overnight, so he asked them.
His father just gave him an affirmative nod, as did his mother and Alex was just about to go upstairs when his father spoke "Say, who is this David fella?"
Alex turned to face his father "He's just this new guy that needs a little help with maths."
His parents exchanged looks and then his mother asked "Do you like this guy?"
Alex blushed a bit, for some reason he had never been able to lie to his parents "Yea..."
His father smiled "Do you think he likes you back?"
Alex had never thought of that and blushes more "I think he does"
His mother smiled now "Well then I'm sure it will be nice to meet this boy"
Alex nodded and retreated to his room, closing the door. He started doing anything that distracted him while he eagerly anticipated his later visit from the bat. He even set a mattress for his guest and impatiently counted the minutes...
When he heard the knock on the door he ran at a very high speed to the door, only to find his father beating him and opening it, revealing David. His father smiled at him and extended a paw "You must be David, nice to meet you son"
David shook the paw, saying politely "You too Mr Trout, and thank you for letting me say over" walking in and grinning at Alex, standing halfway on the stairs, frozen on the spot.
Alex made a silent pray, hoping that his parents wound not say anything stupid to embarrass him. He looked at his father pleadingly and his father kept his smile on "Its our pleasure my boy"
Alex managed to get out "Hey David, ready?"
David nods "Ready, willing and able" he smiles lopsidedly and scratches the back of his head "Wow, never though I would say that about learning"
Alex smiles weakly and they both walk up the stairs and just before they got to his bedroom door his father shouted "You boys try and have some fun while your -learning-, don't make too much noise though."
Alex winced before he opened the door to let them both in. There it was, the stupid comment from his parents. David looked around before sitting down on the mattress laid out for him and putting the bag he brought next-to it " Nice room you got"
Alex's room were plastered with lots of posters. All of them having something about fantasy things he read about in books like unicorns and manticores and other mythical things. In the corners stood a bookshelf, his computer and his bed in the middle. The mattress was set up in the corner near the bathroom door. On the ceiling hang little diamond shaped stones from stings.
"Thanks, so lets get started I guess," said Alex
Alex had finished all his homework, so he helped finish David's instead, explaining everything in an easy to understand manner. He then gave a little lecture of his own to rival his teachers. David paid close attention and seemed to understand Alex's one better than their educator's. Alex was very patient with David and pretty soon he caught on rapidly. By the time they had finished it was 10:00pm and Alex blew out his mouth "I think that's enough for tonight"
David nods in agreement "Yea, so what cha wanna do now?"
Alex thought for a moment and then replies "Hey, how bout we play that game where we take turns asking each other question and the other person has to answer truthfully"
David grins "You mean like truth or dare?" now getting up from the mattress and going to sit next to Alex on the edge of his bed.
Alex nods "Kinda, sept you just take out the dare part, you can go first"
David blinks and thinks of a question "Umm...why did you ask me if I was gay?"
Alex tries his best to think of an excuse that would sound truthful, not wanting to expose his feelings just yet "Sam and Jeff wanted to know"
David chuckles "That is so typical of those too"
Alex laughs and thinks of his own question "So, does your family know about it...you being gay and all?"
David blinks "Yea, I just told em one day and that was it"
Alex smiled at the similarity in their family's "Your turn"
David takes another moment to think of a question "Have you got a boyfriend?" smirking.
Alex blushes "No, I don't" he pauses and then asks while stuttering, "Um...d-do you t-think I'm.... Attractive?"
David smiles brightly and leans in closer, whispering into his ear "I think you're extremely attractive"
Alex's cheeks go blood red and he just stutters, "Er...I...um...well...wha?"
David chuckles and gently locks his muzzle with the shy little mouse's muzzle, wrapping his arms around the mouse's waist. Alex's eyes open up wide in shock but closes them gently and opens his mouth. David lets go of the kiss and smiled "Have I mentioned that I think you're really sexy?"
Alex puts a paw on his red cheeks; perfectly speechless at the wonderful gift he was just given and yawns shortly after. David smiles "tired?"
Alex nods "Yea, teaching you his hard work" still blushing
David laughs "What, am I that hopeless?"
Alex laughs with the bat and yawns again "Oh, I really am tired"
David gives him a caring look and hugs Alex very tightly "Then sleep my love...I'll even tuck you in and sing you a lullaby"
Alex smiles dreamingly hearing himself being referred to as 'love' "I need to get dressed first..." and gets up
David smiles " or you could just sleep in a shorts, like I do"
Alex blinks and giggles "well, I'm really tired so that will do for tonight" walking over to his closet and taking out some shorts and slipping them on quickly after taking his shirt off. He turns around and giggles again, seeing David only in shorts, exposing his strong, masculine chest. He then walks slowly to his bed and gets under the covers and looks up at David.
David walks over to the side of the bed and smiles kindly. He gently starts stroking his mouse's face and starts to sing something in Spanish. Alex couldn't understand what was being sung but the gently brushing at his face and the singing was making him sleepier and soon after fell asleep, a bright pleasant smile plastered over his cute dreaming face
David grins at the sleeping mouse and softly makes an awwww sound. He very carefully gets under the covers with the mouse and wraps his arms around him; bring him into a warm embrace and getting as close as possible. He smiles cheerfully and slowly drifts off into sleep, muttering softly "Goodnight my love"
They both dreamt of each other that night...
