Truth be told, I finished this chapter days ago but my internet connection went to hell. I'm back now and i even finished the next one. I'm going to hold on to that one to do a little change and to give me time to gain some space for my hand-written version. Expect it at about sunday or monday. On with the conclusion of Adventure two!
Chapter 6: Althernate Dawn
Nate's store was dead and empty. The walls were bloody and bits of flesh were scattered. Luke franticly searched the store clearing garbage and junk out of the way. Seni could only watch numbly by as his friend seemed to be going crazy. "It was here." Luke said, then paced around. "And here. Here too." The mouse walked over to the cash register, where a gun was sitting by the scattered money. Senisis gasped. "Is this...?" Luke walked over and examined the body. The human seemed to be more himself, considering how worried for his sister he was. "Yeah, this was the guy we were talking to only yesterday." His body was in pieces; His arms were severed and chewed at the stumps of shoulders, One lag was well eaten, his entrails were oozing out of his stomach and half of his face was gone. If Seni already didn't see worse outside, he would have lost his stomach all over the former store man's corpse. "Do you think Ly-" Seni started "She's alive." Luke said quickly. He picked up a tattered part of her dress from the floor but he seemed confident." I can see exactly where my sister is." Luke looked to his friend. "We need to get you some rest." He took the monkey by the arm and began to escort him to Bianca's. When they arrived, on the street, they saw Terror carrying Gore inside. Terror went up stairs, ignoring the condition of the house. Upstairs seemed to remain unharmed. The dragon kicked the door and almost cried out with surprise: Ian Alther Neos calmly sat at a chair, by the dresser, reading a book. His clothes were torn and bloody in several places. His skin was red and brown with blood in various staged, and his hair was all over; the tire he had in for his hair had broken at some point and now a few loose strands were draped over his face. He seemed fine. "Look at what the cat dragged in." Ian said coldly. "Glad to see Gore is okay though." He put down the book. "Put him on the bed." Ian ordered. He stood up as Gore stirred as he was being put down. "Ian...?" Gore asked weakly. "You're dreaming." Ian turned to the gator, speaking softly. "No I'm not..." He protested. "If I were... You would be... In the bed with me... with no.... pain." The gator groaned and drifted back to sleep. Gore had a bloody bandage on his head, leg and chest. Gore's scales look longer and jagged. Ian noticed it but decided it wasn't the best time. There were more visitors down stairs. Luke and Senisis had returned. The pair were supporting each other; Luke's leg was wrapped up while Senisis had all of his major limbs wrapped up and red with blood. Luke, Terror, and Ian were in the living room, training stories. Ian heard the chaos that happened while he explained how he managed to become free of the bandits. Ian and Luke sat at a table, eating while Terror remained at the far corner. "You sound like you need sleep." Ian said, He voice was cheery but he was under a bit of strain. His cuts healed but they were still sore. "I've been through worse." Luke waved his hand dismissively. "Had to run full force on broken ribs once. My fault though. Made my sister's spell backfire." Luke's face glazed over when he thought of his sister. "I wish I could go save her." He said. "I can't do it alone though." He looked defeated. "I think we could do it." Ian said after a long moment. Luke looked fully at Ian's eyes. "How?" He asked "If you show me where it is, I can come up with a plan based on something I found out on my way here." "You'll be doing no such thing." Terror growled. He pushed himself off of the wall and started to walk over to the pair. "With the team the way it is, I won't be leaving the mission to humans. You will get yourself killed."He stated matter of factly. "So you're saying you can't trust your partner?" Ian asked. He cocked his head a bit when he did so. He looked more inquisitive but the dragon knew better "No, I don't. You move from that spot and I will crush your skull in." The dragon growled. Feeling he made his point he left the room. Luke got up right as the dragon left and motioned for his fellow human friend to follow. As they went outside they covered his eyes from the hot sun and Luke pointed. "It's several miles southeast. I can take you directly there, if you can help me sneak past them." Luke's pointed to a zombie that regenerated and was walking aimlessly. "Perfect." Ian said, rubbing his hands together. "My plan will work perfectly. We'll leave before anyone notices. Could you make them some more stew?" Ian asked, turning to his friend. "If they think they're still being looked after they will think we're busy here." "Yeah, gotcha!" Luke ran into the house to begin the ruse. Ian watched Luke go back inside and grinned. "Sorry bud." He said, then he checked his sword, and started a jog off in the direction Luke suggested. As he made his way through the town Ian began to notice a couple of things: The condition of the town and that he was being followed. He picked up speed and started to zigzag through alleyways and sides streets. Ian suddenly stopped and turned and found himself slammed against the wall closest to him. Terror held his human partner up with one hand. "What do you think you're doing, human?" The dragon asked. "I warned you about leaving. Now I have to add you to my number." His nostrils flared with smoke Ian wasn't being choked but it was uncomfortable enough. He struggled to get out of Terror's grip but was offered no victory. "I- I'm." Ian kept fidgeting. "Get off of me!" The dragon held him and the flame inside for a long moment then he saw something that helped him decide to release Ian and the human landed in to a kneel. "I'm going to save Luke's sister." Ian said confidently. "I have a plan to get to the mines." "What plan is this?" Terror asked, narrowing his eyes. He was still standing over Ian. "A plan to get past all of the zombies." Ian stood up and gave an air of confidence. "Let's just say I learned a weak spot." Terror was in no mood to play with Ian. He tried to pin the human against the wall but only met the wall itself. Ian ducked and ran down the alley. "If you can keep up, you'll learn-!" An arrow whizzed by Ian's head, missing him by inches. The arrow cut through clothing being hung up on a clothes line. When the arrow flew out of sight, Ian turned and looked beyond Terror; Luke lowered his bow and walked casually past the dragon. "I knew you were lying to me." Luke said calmly. He poked Ian in his chest. "You're not leaving me behind to save my sister." Things won't work this way. He said to himself. Sneaking away was a plan that went to hell. Even if they knew, they wouldn't let me do it alone. He reasoned. Fair enough. If we're attacked we'll move on our own. Exactly what I was thinking. Ian outwardly sighed and looked from Luke to Terror. He shrugged. "Not much I can do to stop both of you." He admitted. "Keep up." Ian broke into a run. Luke was shocked by Ian's sudden speed but had to go with it once Terror pushed him a long. Terror was growling in Luke's ear as he ppushed the human along. Luke decided he would be better off avoiding the dragon. Ian weaved past bodies, idle zombies and people, who were in various shapes of pain. All up until he reached a part of town which began its descent into chaos; weeds were wildly growing through sand, Houses were crumbling, buildings already collapsed, and the stores were closed and boarded up. This was more of the deserted part of town where no one lived. From the looks of this anyone would doubt the town would return to what it once was. Ian kept up the pace, Luke started to lag behind but he could still feel Terror's eyes in his back. He also imagined the sword he saw the dragon shatter a table with in his back and could already begin to feel the pain. He looked back and saw those amazing blue eyes staring right at him. They left town and Ian stopped to allow the others to catch up. Sweat was drenched across his forehead but not a heavy breath escaped his lips. The desert plains were just sand. No creatures natural to this habitat seemed to live here anymore. Luke noticed that in his efforts to catch up to Ian. "Some of us are tired, you know." Luke said, supporting himself on his knees while taking heavy breaths. "Maybe you should just go home and sleep." Ian replied coldly, there was a hint of teasing in his tone. "No... Way..." Luke stood up, still trying to catch his breath. "We can go now." He wasn't truly ready but he was angry that a newbie was talking down to him. Terror passed them while they spoke. As they continued on, they noticed the wind began to pick up. The sand was in a whirlwind and it was hindering their progress. "This sand hurts!" Ian protested. "I don't know where I'm going if I can't see where I'm going!" He covered his face while he yelled to Luke, The sound of the howling sand defeating his own. "Follow me!" Luke yelled back. "I don't need my eyes open to see." They continued in heavy steps. They endured the raging sandstorm. "This thing was made by magic!" Luke explained. "Someone doesn't want us going this way!" The sandstorm battered against Ian's face. He felt constantly out of breath and turned to inhale, only to choke on sand. Luke led the way through the sandstorm; he became an outline when Ian realized he was quickly lagging behind. Terror walked through all of this however, he seemed to be completely natural in this environment. The winds became more wild as Ian seemed to be almost outside the storm. When he finally emerged he saw Luke in trouble. Luke was about to back up into the sandstorm; Zombies completely surrounded him. Luke fired a few arrows but ten instantly replaced them. Luke backed up some more and noticed Ian. "Help?" Luke asked, and went to shooting arrows. His swift movements were a blur as he turned and shot with fluid confidence. He couldn't keep the hundred or so at bay. Luke was about to be attacked when Terror jumped out and cut several of them down in a single swipe. Luke got to a knee and fired around Terror, being support. Luke was doing well; covering Terror's openings with ease. Each arrow hit on the mark now that the human was focused. The zombies came from all sides, though. Luke was forced to turn away and defend himself. Within seconds Terror was covered in zombies; Some even tried to crawl on top of him. Terror's frustration grew. His movement was being limited and he couldn't land good hits on anything. With a growl, the smoke rose out of his mouth. With a roar, flames came alive. His dark flame blew upward, clearing everything above. He then turned downward, causing a blaze of zombies. On top of the ocean of sand, there was now a layer of burning zombies to it. The flames came Luke's way and started to duck. Terror had control and took this moment to take a breath. It missed Luke with the breath and Luke was free to fire through the zombies. He reached into his pouch and produced a arrow head of red. Luke replaced the heads and notched this new arrow. "Uhhh... Uh... Yeah!" Luke fired the arrow. His intention was to miss and to make the arrow go more to the center of the zombies. "The Burning Reprieve!" Luke yelled. The arrow activated to his words. The flaming arrow lodged itself in a zombie at first and ignited it. Then the arrow got hotter and hotter, until it exploded. Added to the flames of zombies turning to ash, The flying flesh only added to the chaos Terror enjoyed. He felt himself almost get lost in the moment. He felt the pure joy of felling countless foes and wanted to give in. Then a man came to mind. Azden Udeen , his former teacher, brother, and savior. Terror stopped his fire just in time. He and Luke stood alone in a field of burning dead. The two looked around, admiring the damage. "Where's Ian?" Luke asked. Ian saw the start of the fight; He only witnessed because the zombies didn't notice him. He realized it at night, when he was looking for his friends. He was able to walk freely amongst them. At first he wondered about it but he quickly decided it could be used to his advantage. First he crawled to make sure Terror or Luke didn't stop him. The smell was horrible and even one of their arms came across his hair. He was ready to retch. When he was in the clear, he could see some sort of cave entrance or rock in the distance. He figured that to be where Luke was leading him and ran off for there. As he got closer, it stuck out like a sore thumb; Bulky rock sticking out of the ground that primarily contained sand. Ian ignored it and decided to venture in. These must be the mines Vargo spoke of. He told himself. His eyes adjusted to the growing darkness. Mine carts and ore lay scattered around the entrance. They were followed by old shovels, pickaxes, hammers, helmets, and crates of materials to build rails for the carts. The support beams were in poor shape; some were barely standing, others were rotting and ready to break. Others were broken off and thankfully the tunnel itself held. Ian kept a steady slow walk as to not to alert anyone who might be hanging around. As he rounded a bend, there was indeed a couple of skeletons standing, holding rusted weapons, probably picked up from the mines itself. Ian was unsure if skeletons and zombies were classified as the same. It might seem silly but, in this world of magic, Ian has learned, is that the smallest differences could be a deciding factor. As quietly as possible, Ian sidled up to the skeleton guards, up until the point he was right beside them. Thankfully they didn't smell like the zombies outside. Oddly enough the bones seemed in perfect condition. As he finished bypassing them, he was gently guided into complete darkness. His eyes adjusted as if it were day; Colors were restored, and he could make out detail just fine. The tunnels began to branch off. The young human couldn't decide on which way to go. He knelt down to look for clues. The only foot prints Ian could make out were his own and... the Skeletons' footprints Someone was being dragged. He said to himself. He noticed a clear path of something being carried between them. Ian started after the trail. It didn't take long for the dusty and sandy ground to become harder and rocky. He couldn't find the trail anymore. He eventually came to another fork. He chose at random and he started to notice something: A green glow was starting through the cave. It seemed to get stronger the deeper he walked. Should we go back? He asked himself. this seems radioactive. And let Luke down? After we ditched him and Terror? Yeaaaahhh, That dragon is going to be mad' Ian reasoned. 'And so will Terror He almost had to hold a chuckle to himself. He heard voices which made him cease his musings. His eyes could see some distance up ahead. There was a cave in at some point. He couldn't see any way around it so he decided to backtrack and try the other way. He did so. The second path seemed to curve endlessly. Ian noticed how support beams weren't even bothered with here. It seemed as if there was no real mining being down here. 'Is this recent or was there something deeper going on?' He asked himself. Ian's worry about the path was eased as the green glow soon returned. He assumed it was the same as before. It seemed to curve in the direction of where he was going too. The voices returned and Ian heard yelling. Ian wanted to rush but he know that would do no good. His teacher taught him better. Ian could hear the voices more clearly just around the next bend. He knew he was here. Slowly, he poked his head around the corner "-urn the favor to you and your friends." Someone in robes spoke. They were cloaked in black robes with red runes on them. They were a weird shape and Ian felt he had saw them before. The cloaked person had a big book between their hands; It was probably the source of the glowing because it was the brightest object in the cave. It lowered the book and produced an already bloody knife in its free hand. Across from her, chained to a wall was a young lady. He hair was a mess and her face was bloody. She looked tired, and there was a slow drip down her leg. "I don't see why... you would continue what he did." Lyn replied to her captor. She was breathing hard. " I am to take his legacy!" The person- who Ian could now tell was a female's voice yelled. He held the knife close to Lyn. "I do have good news now." She said suddenly. "He voice was pleasant, as if meeting an old friend. " I don't have to torture you anymore. You have a replacement." She turned to Ian, who tried to hide back hide back behind the rock. "No use in hiding boy, I knew you were in here from the start. I am a bit confused how you got past my guards though." Ian Stepped out into the green glow. "Yesss, you look like a nice meal for my Skeletons." She spoke in a twisted sweet voice. "My bull is all skin and bones." She muttered a few words and out of the ground, between Ian and the other two, rose a skeleton of pure white bones and long, sharp horns. It stood atleast a head over the human. "Kill the boy!" She yelled. Ian took a step back and drew his sword. He waited for the attack Five seconds, ten seconds, twenty awkward seconds of them standing there while nothing happened. "I said Kill Him!" He voice was a high-pitched squeak. Still the skeleton bull made no effort to attack Ian. ' I guess they really can't see us.' Ian thought to himself. 'You JUST figured that out?!' The robed figure put her dagger within her cloak and raised her hand. He could see her scaly hands as it began to glow with a green light. Ian was busy watching what she was doing that he didn't notice that the skeleton had begun to move against him. Ian cried out as it grabbed his sword arm first and lifted him off the ground, then grabbed the other. "Hold him." The woman ordered "Let him go!" Lyn protested. She was silenced with a cuff across her face. the woman went to her book again and spoke a few more weird words. Two more Boney hands met Ian's lets and restrained him. He struggled against the combined hands but he could not get free. She pulled off her hood to show a female lizard in her thirties. Her scales weren't of the others, they had a darker color to them, and her eyes were narrow and looked wild. "Leave him alone Bianca!" Lyn yelled. "No-no. It's story time my little Cor cow." Bianca teased to Lyn, then she turned her attention to Ian. "You people killed my father!" She yelled. Her saliva battering Ian's face. " He was minding his own business, ruler of this city, giving it the glory it deserved and your people came along and killed him!" Her hair was wild, pointing in all directions. "Her father is the man who took control of the minds of everyone here and made them slaves." Lyn said. "Don't spoil the story or I'll cut you up first!" Bianca threatened Lyn having been cut already quickly fell into silence. "Because of what you and your friends did I will gladly return the favor!" She slowly brought the tip of her knife down and stopped at the human's stomach. "I'll kill you humans... eventually. Hahaha!" She ever so softly began to dig the knife into Ian's flesh. She only went deep enough to not damage organs; she wanted to play with her food. Ian at first grunted through the pain but then a he couldn't help it when a whimper escaped his lips. She cut more of his body; her dagger was being soaked with the human's blood.
Ian cried out as the knife continued its course. The small blade carved through his chest, and it's way back down to his stomach, then she stopped. While Ian was catching his breath she lifted his tattered shirt and noticed something "What are you!?" She demanded. The fresh wounds on Ian only had a scar for their efforts now. They had healed. Ian's mind was hazy, He didn't register anything right now; his chest hurt too much. Then he felt the knife enter him again and he screamed. "Please stop!" He yelled, His words were only encouraging the deranged woman. She laughed with glee as she wildly cut at the human. "Let him go!" Lyn cried, she couldn't stand to hear Ian crying out. "Hurt me instead!" She pleaded "I have plans for you next, little girl" Bianca turned to Lyn for a moment then went back to Ian. Ian was covered in a new coat of blood, it matched the growing pool at his feet. Ian couldn't tell if it was good or bad when Bianca stopped. When she did, the pain ceased but he would lose the energy to stay conscious. He made his decision each time the dagger met him again. "Please stop." He moaned, as his head began to droop. "Stop." He pleaded again. Bianca was bringing her blade up Ian's leg now, considering cutting off his member. His arms were scars already and she was saving the killing blow for last. "Stop." Ian said firmly. His voice had changed slightly. "Quiet before I cut your tongue." Bianca threatened. Then she decided to do it anyway. She lifted Ian's chin and looked into his eyes. She gasped, dropped her knife, and fell along with it. She backed up a bit as his eyes regained the focus they were losing. Ian tried to move but he couldn't. He noticed his restraints as if this was his first time noticing them. "Release me." Althein Ordered. At first the hands of the bull were the only part to comply. The human fell face first into his pool of blood, then his legs were freed. He stood up awkwardly and started to walk toward Bianca in the same fashion. She crawled backwards and tried to use her book's magic but Ian quickly snatched it out of her hand. Suddenly his limbs were coordinated. Ian looked at the book's cover. It was possessed of words that Ian could not begin to understand "The book of demons?" He translated anyway. His brown and black eyes flicked to Bianca and back to the book. "My kind of read." He said with a dark voice and opened it. "No. please don't." It was Bianca's turn to beg for mercy. She backed up more until she passed Lyn. "She's right! Leave it alone!" Lyn agreed with her captor. Althein ignored both of them and found a page he was satisfied with. He began to read the mysterious words in the cursed book. Bianca had now reached the other side of the cave-in. She tried to escape by picking up the rocks she could move, all the while crying pleas to spare her life. Ian's voice became darker. It gained edge with each word he spoke. Lyn couldn't tell the words apart. She was too scared to focus on that. Her eyes were focused on the bloody, twisted, glowing human before her. He began to raise a hand and his glow was magnified. She looked away and found herself watching Bianca. Bianca decided to run past Ian but on her first step she fell. She looked down and saw a boney white hand holding the bottom of her robe. She sat up and tried to free herself. At that several more of the matching hands joined the party; grabbing for whatever part of the lizard they would get a hold of. He legs were quickly covered. Then she was pushed back by another hand and suddenly her whole body was covered. The hands dug into her robes and her flesh. She didn't know which pain to react to "Feel the pain of those you have hurt and killed." Althein then closed his fist and watched with a grin as the hands went to work. They pulled. They each wanted a piece of Bianca's body and they weren't going to let go. Her arms, legs, chest, tail, and head were being grabbed at. The claws at her head began to dig their hands into her eyes and mouth for purchase. She let loose a muffled scream as one of her eyes exploded with goo and blood. Her body spammed as her tail was being pulled from under her, her spine being ruined and being ripped from within. The claws and hands on her body pierced skin and flesh. The white hands were now red and reacting ferociously. Finally with a Simultaneous effort every hand jerked. With a final death scream Bianca was ripped apart flesh tore and bones ripped and shattered. He skull was broken in three. Each hand took a part of her body and started to leave with their spoils.
Lyn screamed in terror and shut her eyes tight just as blood and loose flesh coated her face. More hands joined the fray and began to grab for her loose entrails; ripping up her heart, lungs and intestines. When they were done, only the blood and small bits of flesh, Robe, and bone remained.
Ian lowered his hand and the glow became dim. It was a relief to Lyn for both sides; she didn't have to see the mess formerly known as Bianca. Ian walked over to Lyn, who broke in a cold sweat as she saw was Bianca saw; The mixed brown and black iris of Ian's eyes were inhuman. She didn't know and didn't want to know what Ian was. "It's okay, girl. You won't remember anything." He said as if he read her mind. Then he opened the book again. "No! NOOOO!" Lyn flailed against the chains, she couldn't utter a spell due to Bianca's magic that transferred all her energy to the book. She was going to be killed by her own cor. This time when Ian spoke his voice was softer, almost normal. When he finished his last words Lyn stopped her screaming when her head felt woozy, then she blacked out. Ian was losing control. The book was also losing his light. With a last burst of energy, he tossed the book to where Bianca's body should be. The dead owned it now. Ian dropped to the floor, by Lyn, and faded.
"Ian. Ian." A voice yelled in his ear "Maybe he lost too much blood." Another voice spoke "That's not his blood, that is." The first one replied. "I can smell it." Ian came to screaming. "Nooo! Not again! Please sto-" "Ian. Ian, Ian! It's over."
Gore was holding Ian, supporting him. The entire group was there: Senisis, Luke, and Terror had arrived as well. The scene before them almost made Luke freeze up and Seni couldn't stop staring. Terror was genuinely impressed with the mess before him. Seni and Luke had begun to work on the chains holding Lyn.
When Ian opened his eyes, what he saw was completely different. He was back on the land ship, in medical; Ian always managed to make himself end up there. His heart leaped ad he saw the person sitting over him. "Lu." He said softly. He reached up with a bloody hand and pulled Gore into a deep passionate kiss. Gore didn't know how to react, he was stunned by the efforts Ian was giving. The human's tongue dances in his mouth and Gore's mind was swimming. His mind came back to reality and he pulled away from Ian. "What's wrong Lu?" Ian asked, his face looked upset. "I can't be happy to see yo-..." His eyes began to focus again and his mind came up to date. Ian sat up, backed away from gore and shakily stood up. Gore tried to help the human but Ian held up his hand to back the Gator off. "What happened?!" Ian demanded. Looking around at the scene before him.
