He tossed one of the pitch black balls from his belt and in a burst of light the Pokémon appeared. "'Kay Cerberus I'm going to let you make the decision. Do we take on the tournament or head back to train a bit more?"

The Houndoom stood just below his shoulder her fur was slick shiny black and her horns and bone collar and ribs were polished silvery white. Cerberus growled before tilting her head towards the tournament arena with a sly smile.

"A little from column a. A little from column b." Jack said as the two of them took off for the tournament arena. He grinned "soon we're gonna show him how far we've come.

"Ymir use Sheer Cold!" Jack shouted to his Weavile. The weasel lifted his arms into the air and threw a devastating wave of cold at the enemy's Dragonite. The dragon shuddered and shivered before falling to the ground.

"Dragonite is unable to battle Pokémon trainer Carl is out of useable Pokémon." The referee announced his voice echoing out of the stadium speakers. "Jack is the winner and will advance to the championship match.

Jack turned as the nurse approached and handed his Pokémon to her so they could be healed. His heart was beating at a thousand miles a minute. This was the moment he had been waiting for ever since he Cerberus had first hatched. The champion stepped on to the field Hunter 'Wrath' Case the Sinnoh league's strongest trainer. Jack grabbed the Pokéballs from the nurse and rolled one of the balls down his arm and on to the field. "Go Absol!"

"Go Kopesh!" Hunter tossed the bug Pokémon on to the field. "You better have some real good moves to go after me with just dark types." He growled as his Scyther stretched out before taking his stance. "Use agility Kopesh and then fury cutter!" The Scyther blurred into action as he rushed across the field at his opponent.

"Use..." Jack started to give an order but didn't get the chance before the Scyther was standing in front of him, and Absol collapsed to the ground. "Oh crap." he muttered as he called back Absol. "Ymir I think we're in for a real beating." The Weavile gave him a panicked look before taking the field. "Hit him straight up with blizzard." Ymir breathed out exhaling a gust of ice and snow.

"Kopesh take him down with guillotine." Hunter called to his Pokémon. Kopesh zipped in behind Ymir and brought his down his bladed arms on the Weavile. "That's two for zero and you only have two more Pokémon how did you plan to beat me?"

"Never had a plan for beating you just wanted to meet you again." Jack tossed his PokéBall to the field and Cerberus emerged to the field. "But that doesn't mean we're going to just walk away without a fight!" Jack's grin disappeared and he glared at the Scyther. "Now it's time to get serious Cerberus use Heat Bellow." He said his voice a low growl.

"Doom!" Cerberus howled before launching a purple ball of flames across the field and straight into Kopesh hurling him across the arena.

"This match is over for you bug. Cerberus use Hyper Flame." It's often mentioned in the PokéDex that when burned by a Houndoom's fire the pain will linger weeks after the burn heals Hyper Flame was simply this weaponized. The black flames poured from Cerberus's mouth as a wave of towering fire that rolled over the bug Pokémon. "Well looks like that's the end of this match." Jack said as the smile returned to his face only to vanish an instant later. Kopesh emerged from the immolating pyre wreathed in the black flames. His eyes the burning red of a Pokémon gone berserk and no longer fighting for sport or challenge but fear and rage.

"Kopesh stop it! That's going too far!" Hunter said as Kopesh wheeled and slashed his arms through the air making a whistling noise. The Pokémon was beyond taking commands and was on the attack he slashed narrowly missing his trainer before rounding and running towards Cerberus. Jack jumped in front of Cerberus hoping Kopesh wouldn't attack a trainer. He was very very wrong.

"NGGH!" Jack tried his best not to scream as Kopesh's bladed arm sank into his left shoulder. The pain seared through his body as blood trickled down his left arm. Jack wrenched his eyes open as just in time to see the other blade about to come down on his head. But the expected blow never came it took Jack a few minutes to process what had happened through the haze of pain. Cerberus had bitten the Scyther and it had fainted.

"Hold on we're going to get you to the hospital." Hunter voice came as the world started to turn black.
