Ok, for those of you that haven't read this book, let me set up the scene. Eragon is a Dragon Rider in times that are not the best. Eragon is the last known Dragon Rider, the other were betrayed and killed by an evil king that now ruled this land. One of the last remaining dragon eggs was stolen from the king and hatched for Eragon. He and Saphira now rest in a mountain stronghold of the resistance fighters. Brom was the person the told Eragon what he was and got him to the resistance fighters but be died in the process. He taught Eragon and Saphira everything they know about being A Dragon and a Rider for Brom was a Rider himself and survived the kings slaughter.

First SoulFire

I opened my bleary eyes for what felt like the hundredth time that night and stared blankly at the smooth rock ceiling. I could hear Saphira's steady breathing near me. Just having her being there was enough to lull me to sleep most times. I sighed quietly and put my arms behind my head. I kept thinking about all the things that had happened and about all the things that were going to happen to the both of us. It didn't seem real, I felt like I was going to wake up any second from this dream or nightmare come true. I thought back to the beginning, when I first found the egg. I thought about Brom, and my uncle. Without knowing it I had been boring my vision into one spot on the cave roof. It was a smoothly carved cave about twenty feet high and about sixty feet long, quite obviously carved by dwarven hands. There were huge pillows covering the cave floor and a little notch in the side of the wall where there was a bed where I was. Normally, riders would sleep down in the city but over the years several had expressed wants to be a close to their dragons as possible and I was no different.

"What are you thinking about?' Sapphires soft voice cooed in my head. It seemed loud in the silence and I jumped slightly, as I didn't know she was awake.

"Oh, just about everything but nothing in particular. What are you doing up?," I said rolling over slowly to face her. She was lying on her stomach curled in a ball.

"I felt you wake up I so did I. It's a reaction now but anyway... That's a lot to think about. You should try and get some sleep."

"I know, but I just feel so stressed. I don't know what to do, Everything is so complicated now," I said in a worried voice.

"Well, if you can't seem to go to sleep we might as well talk, I can't sleep either. Now you've got me thinking," she raised her head and gave me what looked like a toothy grin.

"Well, what do you want to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't care. Why don't you start?" I sat there for a few minutes thinking about what to say and I finally decided to ask her something I had wanted to ask for some time. "Do you like being with me? Do you like me as your Rider," I blurted out. She seemed taken back but regained her composure quickly.

"Of course I do, I hatched for you remember?" She joked

"I know, I was just curious if you would do it again?"

"Yes I would. I love being with you and would give anything to keep you safe. Why would you ask a question like that?" She seemed a little hurt that I would question her loyalty.

"Don't take it the wrong way, Saphira. I guess I just wanted to hear what you thought and I'm glad to hear it."

"What about you? Do you enjoy my company?" She caught me off guard with the question, but I suppose it was a fair one.

"Yes, I love being with you as well. I mean how many other Riders have there been in history? I love you with all my heart, nothing can change that. Our bond is a special one, we are apart of each other, like Brom said. I think that it is true when you share your life with a creature as powerfully mystic as a Dragon."

"I agree, though you humans are no slouches when it comes to being mysterious." She joked.

"Lets just say it keeps things interesting," I said aloud and smiled. She really was a wonderful soul.

I suddenly became aware of how hot it was in the dragon hold. We were in late spring and the days had only cooled of moderately. I got up and took my cotton shirt off to help me cool off. I looked my self over. Becoming a Rider had chiseled my body into fine form. There was no excess fat anywhere but I didn't bulge with muscles either. As I looked my self over I glanced over my shoulder and caught sapphire looking at me very intently out of the corner of her eye. As soon as she saw me looking at her she flashed her eyes away and turned her head.

"What is it Saphira?" I said, looking confused

"Oh, nothing, nothing," she said as she suddenly became very interested in the cave roof." This perplexed me to no end. I carefully studied her features, trying to figure out what that was happening. I had very little success as a dragon's features were hard to read

"Are you ok, Saphira?

"Yes, Yes I'm fine," she said quickly, still looking at the ceiling or anything but me.

"Come on Saphira I know you better then that, what's wrong?"

"Oh, I... I g... guess when you took your shirt off I couldn't resist looking. I always have

found you rather cute." She said smiling shyly at me.

"You have always found me cute?" I said aloud and cocked my head to the side, not quite understanding what I had heard.

"Well, yes. I guess I have always though that. We have been through a lot, Eragon. You were always there for me and I like that about you," she said, looking right at me.

For the first time I really looked at her eyes. I looked in them and I saw that there was no question, I saw love and caring. I saw more in those eyes that I have ever seen in any human. As I watched her she closed her eyes and said something in the ancient language that I didn't understand; her entire bond began to glow with a blue white light. As I watched in amazement she started to shrink. Her body also started to change. Her back legs became longer and more slender while her front legs extended and became slimmer. Her belly tucked in and she started to stand upright. Her wings also shrunk to fit her new size, which was about as tall as I was. When the transformation was complete I was looking at a perfect blend of human and dragon traits. Her body was that of a human. Her arms were long and elegant, her legs strong but just as beautiful. She still retained a curvy neck that was a little longer then a normal human's. Her tail was also still there as it flicked quickly behind her as she looked over her figure. She also still stood on the balls of her feet like a dragon would. Her elegant wings were still present and stretched out about fifteen feet in length. She stretched them, and then tucked them around her body, making a kind of covering for her. As for her face it was also the perfect merger. It was still mostly dragonish in appearance. She still had her medium-ish length muzzle but it was slightly sharper to fit her new feminine form, but her eyes were the most noticeable change. I saw human and dragon in those deep blue eyes. Over all I was looking at a very attractive, slightly smaller, Saphira.

"Well, what do you think? She said suddenly.

"You can talk!?" and stumbled back slightly, almost falling.

"Yes, in this form I can. What do you think?" she said again.

"Wow, um... you're beautiful," I said as I plopped down on the cushions. She gave me a small smile of thanks and I think I saw her blush, if that's possible. She walked slowly over to me and sat down on the cushion right next to me. I looked over at her with a slightly bewildered expression. I still couldn't understand what happened. Then something clicked. I remember that no one knows all the abilities a dragon has. This must be one of those unknown ones. I secretly wondered what other ones she was keeping from me.

Saphira gently placed her hand on my shoulder, and I pulled away slightly. She quickly pulled back, "Eragon, What's wrong, are you alright?" She asked in a worried tone.

"I guess I'm still getting use to this new form, it's quite a radical change. Why did you do it anyway?" She smiled again, which was beginning to look more human with her new features, and moved closer.

"I love you Eragon and I know that I want to be with you. Dragon's mate for life and I can't think of a better person then the one that I've gotten to know over the past year. I know what you're like Eragon, like no one else does and I really can't think of any reason that we shouldn't be together. Our souls are already linked so why can't we be as well?" She stopped on a breath and held it.

"I'm not sure I understand Saphira. How can you have feelings like that for a human? You're a dragon and just changing forms can't change what you are. Shouldn't you be looking for another dragon? What's the attraction?" Saphira let the breath out with a small puff.

"In case you haven't noticed, dragons aren't around as much as they once were and who knows, in this form we might be able to be together, and plus, it can't hurt to have a little fun anyway." She said with a small, playful smile and then turned somewhat somber, "I know that you're human, Eragon. You're caring, noble and just. Those are all the categories that maidens have admired in Dragons over all the years past, Eragon." I sighed. "I didn't fall in love with your body, although it helps," She said with a small smile but still keeping her hands at bay. I was now even more confused then ever but I decided to hear everything that she had to say. "I fell in love with your soul and who you are, not what you look like." My walls almost caved at that point but that persistent voice wouldn't leave me,

"There's just something not right about this. I... I don't know," my voice trailed off. She looked at me, as if trying to decide what to say, or how to say it.

"Eragon, look at me," she said in a soft voice as she turned my head. I twitched slightly at the sudden touch and closed my eyes. I reopened them and looked at her. Her hands were surprisingly soft and I leaned into them slightly without realizing. "What did you say to me earlier? Do you remember?" I thought for a minute then started slowly, not quite knowing what she was getting at.

"I said that I love our bond and I love you with all my heart," I said weakly, knowing I was finally trapped within my own logic.

"You just said it...you love me with all your heart. Does it really matter what form I take? I know that you never thought about me that way but in this form we can do what comes next with our love, now what else?" She asked eyes hopeful.

"But that's just the thing." I interrupted her before she built her logic up too high. "I never had any feelings like that for you. You were a dragon and I was human, I never thought that anything could happen."

"Well, now what do you think now that it can happen?" I had been thinking on this question since this whole thing began and sadly...I still didn't have an answer.

My head hurt with what was happening. Part of me wished that I had just turned over and went back to sleep but another, growing, part of me was wondering and mulling over what Saphira was saying. It was true that I could freely admit to loving being with her but the question that was troubling me was did I love her enough? Her new form was attractive enough but deep down in her soul, she was a dragon. She wasn't human and some level of my brain was having trouble accepting that fact. Why, I didn't know. I let out a slow and controlled sigh as I tired to quiet my mind.

"Our bond is a special one," I continued slowly, still warring with my own mind. "We are apart of each other, we are one. I remember what I said, Saphira," I said in a slightly annoyed tone. "It's just....Oh. I don't know," I said shaking my head slowly.

"Yes you do. What is it?" she said intently.

I looked at her in a new light just then. I don't know what it was about that single moment but many of the pieces fell into place. I saw all the love she had for me and slowly began to realize that I harbored similar emotions for her the whole time, I had just buried them deeply. Like she had said, I had fallen in love with her soul and her spirit. Not her form.

Then it hit me, I did love her. I loved her as a person loves another's soul.

A soul mate...

"But, what would happen if somebody found out? It would destroy me... er, us." I said, still trying to hang on the ground that my logic was quickly losing. Saphira flattened her ears,

"Don't worry, nobody will, it's late at night and everybody else is sound asleep. If we find out that it doesn't work then we'll know and I won't change into this form again. As for what you should do now, what do you think?"

"I think that love your soul but I'm still not sure..."

"Well maybe you need a little push in the right direction," she whispered with a small smile. She un-curled her wings exposing her chest as she pushed me down with one hand.

"But, I..." I sputtered.

"Shhhh, everything will be all right," she whispered as she climbed on top of me, pushing me down further into the soft pillows. I looked up at her with my head slightly cocked and a pinched expression.

"Saphira, I still don't know if this is a good ide-." I never got the last word out as her lips met mine.

We kissed for several seconds until she broke the trance. She rolled sideways off me and looked at me for a response. All I could do was look back at her with a shocked look on my face. I must have looked pretty silly because she let out a laugh which shook me out of my trance

"Well, what did you think?"

"Ummm... I never expected it to be anything like that." I answered before I could think.

"What did you expect it to be like?"

"I don't know strange, rough," I shrugged my shoulders.

"Now why would you think it would be like that?" she asked in an accusing tone.

"I thought it would be like you in your normal dragon form, But it wasn't. You're so warm and soft," I said as ran the back of my hand down her arm. Her new form was beginning to tickle my mind in ways that I had never known. She smiled at me warmly.

"Well what do you think about having sex now?" Her question caught me off guard because it was the first time she actually said it.

"I... I don't think it would b-be a bad idea, you know, just to see what it's like. I think it could be fun at least, and neither of us are going back to sleep now," I said with a grin to cover up the fact that I was stammering.

"Well I'm glad you see things my way for a change," she said with a small laugh.

"It's a nice way to see things," I said in a low voice as I moved over closer.

"This might be a little strange at first. You see I-, I've never been with a woman before," I said very embarrassed.

"Well don't feel bad. I've never been with a male dragon before. Much less a human," she replied, giving me an equally embarrassed and comical look.

"I guess we sort of feel it out, huh?" I asked as I brushed my hand down her arm again, still amazed with her transformation.

"That sounds fine with me. What do you want to do first?" She asked, sliding a bit off to my side and propping her head up with her hand. Her wings were folded neatly behind her and made small sounds as she moved.

"I was kind of hoping you had some ideas," I said with I laughed.

"Well this is funny. Neither of us knows what to do," she pointed out, laughing as well.

"I'm sure we'll think of something," I said looking at her with a small smile. She gave me a predatory look and slipped her leg over my lap and straddled my hips. She looked down at me with a smile and leaned down towards me, stopping a few inches from my face. I felt her hit breath on my cheek for a second before she closed her eyes and we shared another fiery kiss. It was broken quickly.

"So far I don't mind this." I sounded drunk.

"Relax and go with the flow," she said almost in a whisper.

"Whatever you say," I said, as I leaned up and kissed her neck. She let out a quick sound as I moved down to her collar bone. I gently lifted her off me, rolled her onto her back and looked into her eyes. She was so soft beneath me where I had expected her scales to rub my skin raw once again. Her beautiful wings folded delicately around her. I placed a kiss on the tip of her muzzle and began to slowly kiss my way down, trying to do the best that I could. She gasped quickly as I ran over a tender spot on her elegant neck. Smiling devilishly, I bit gently at that spot. She arched her back slightly, pressing herself against me. I felt her breasts pressing gently against my chest a bit. Gods, I loved the feeling of her skin against mine. I could feel her heart thrumming in her chest to match mine. We both wanted this, a little more then even we knew

A small moan escaped her lips as I trailed lower, ever so slowly. I went back up briefly and captured the mound of one breast and swirled my tongue over the erect nipple. I heard Saphira hiss between her teeth and stopped to look up at her. Her wings

spread wide over the cushions, trembling slightly.

"Are you alright?" I asked gently, wondering if I had accidentally hurt her somehow.

"Oh, I'm fine, don't stop," she answered, her voice wavering. I smiled again at the thought of succeeding in giving her some amount of pleasure. I trailed lower again at her wish. I felt her soft hands in my hair, urging me lower down her body. I reached for her mind but found nothing but feeling of desire and love there. Slowly I ran my tongue experimentally between the delicate folds of her sex. She moaned and shuddered slightly, rising up into me. I trailed lower, and then I rose from her and slipped off the pants I wore. She lay there, naked to my gaze, her eyes hungrily looking into mine. I slipped the accursed material off and looked to her. Her gaze roamed over my naked body, watching me as I climbed on top of her once again. She enshrouded us with her wings, pressing me to her. The air around us became warm as her wings pressed softly against my back, resting in a soft but reassuring way.

"For one who's never been with a woman, you're impressive. I mean, I'm not asleep yet anyway." she chuckled. My mouth opened in feigned shock and I smirked.

"You tell me if you start falling asleep, okay?" I joked as I leaned down and kissed her. She smiled and returned it.

We lay there kissing for a few minutes as our hands explored each others body. My hands eventually found their way to her wings as they slowly spread over the cushions again. I ran my fingers down them, slowly dragging my fingers down their lengths. She shifted noticeably under me at this new sensation as I traveled down to her velvet like belly. I slowly dragged a single figure down her side, I heard her whimper softly, jerking away from me unknowingly. I gently held her hips down onto the pillows beneath them as my fingers gently brushed the base of her tail.

"Don't do that again" I heard her whisper heavily.

"What? This?" I asked as I repeated my motion and got the same result.

"Yes that. You know I'm ticklish."

"I know now anyway," I answered as I rose above her and gazed into her glittering blue eyes. I felt the weight of my erection nestled between her thighs, and felt the color rise in my cheeks.

"You're blushing." She said airily.

I closed my eyes and chuckled, lightly.

"I know, are you as unsure as I am?" I asked finally, opening my eyes to her, my cheeks reddening.

Saphira places a warm velvety hand upon my cheek and kissed me softly. Her mouth was warm and inviting.

"A little," she finally admitted.

"Do you want to stop?"

"No!" Both her mind and mouth said in unison. They both giggled.

I shifted my weight as so not the crush her and looked at her once again. Her eyes were somewhat glazed over, staring at me with unknowing passion. Slowly I entered her, going in only about half way. Saphira whimpered softly, resting her head upon my shoulder. I felt concern wash over me. Was a dragon's virginity the same as a mortal woman's?

"Are you alright?" my voice gentle, almost a whisper.

"It's hard to talk...but please don't stop..."

I touched her mind again and smiled. She was surrounding me, Body and mind. I clasped her hand and held it tightly. She watched me out of the corner of her eye as her wings spread out, quivering slightly. I slowly continued inward and shifted my weight again, slightly moving within her. She sighed aloud, closing her eyes. I caught my breath. Slowly I began to move within her, slowly pulling myself away from her an inch or two and gently pushing into her again. She wrapped her long legs around my waist, pushing me with her thighs, urging me faster and deeper. Our hips began to move in unison. The hold seemed to fade away as all my senses were slowly taken over by the feeling of what was happening right then and there, my only concern was the beautiful soul that I was sharing this moment with.

I heard my own breathing in my ears as it mingled with Saphira's small sounds, as well as her own puffs of breath, warm on my cheek. I felt the warmth of her body around me as I slowly slid in and out of her. I grunted and moaned softly as she would contract around me as waves of pleasure traveled the length of her body and mine. Her hands grasped mine tightly as a drowning man would grasp a raft, she seemed afraid to let go. I smelled her arousal in the air, it was a sent that I can't quite describe, it was earthy but with a light twinge. I breathed the warm sent as I kissed her neck over and over again. My rhythmic motions kept a steadily increasing tempo. My body became slick against Saphira's as the heat of the hold began to take its toll. Sweat trickled down the back of my neck and on down my back as our lovemaking continued.

Saphira's head rolled back slowly as I began to move faster and faster. Her mouth was hanging open slightly and she was panting lightly, her tongue hanging limply out of the corner of her mouth. My hands left hers and I found her hips, I gently lifted her off the pillows a few inches to get a new angle. I felt her tighten suddenly, making my head swim.

I began to thrust in earnest now. I could feel my peak quickly approaching as Saphira's moans and erratic cries began to increase. These only drove me to greater heights of ecstasy as mine begun to match hers.

"E- Er- Eragon!" she panted and practically shrieked my name as her orgasm shook her entire body, down to the core. I felt her muscles tighten and she sat up and grabbed for me, she wrapped her arms around my neck; digging her fingernails into my shoulder blades. I felt small streaks of fire begin to trail down my back as she scratched at me. I moved my hands to her back to support her and hold her to me, at the same time she squeezed my hips tight against me, sending me deeper into her then I had been before. My mind and body both couldn't take it as I finally reached me peak deep inside her. My cry of ecstasy met hers as we both rode the indescribable feeling of finally joining on that final level. I felt my body warming as we lay there, holding each other, heads on the other's shoulder. It was several seconds until the fitful waves of pleasure subsides enough to allow me to open my eyes and raise my head. Saphira did the same and our eyes met. She smiled, well more smirked, at me,

"What?" I breathed out. She chuckled and closed her eyes for a second.

"That was unbelievable and I didn't fall asleep once," she said with a grin. I opened my mouth and scoffed slightly, I then began to move slightly within her. Her grin faded and her eyes glazed over for a second as her mouth opened slightly. I stopped and looked at her with a grin of my own,

"Well, I'm glad that I could keep you awake...." I teased and nuzzled her snout. She gave me a playful glare

"You're mean..."

"I love you to."

"I love you Eragon."

"And I you Saphira."

I awoke to see Saphira laying half on me and half off, her hand was wrapped around my side and her tail around my leg. I felt her all around me. She was sleeping peacefully next to me, her every breath caressed my cheek, sending delicious shivers through my body. I leaned to her and kissed the top of her head. I felt her stir beneath me, sending my head into a fog again. Her body awakening before her mind did, and it demanded me. Slowly I nudged her off me and onto her back. I rose above her, watching her sleeping face and kissed down her elegant neck. The fire in my blood would not subside.

I wanted her again.

To hear her moan, to see the pleasure on her face.

I pressed myself within her again, loosing myself in her. Slowly I drove into her, watching for her eyes to open. Gritting my teeth, I thruster harder into her and watched her mouth whisper my name.

Eragon....

I clasped my hands with hers, and raised them above her head. With every movement I pressed myself deeper, watching Saphira's face. She wrapped her long elegant legs around my middle, urging me faster, harder. I only slowed though, feeling mischievous. I heard her whimper.

No...

She beckoned me to go faster, harder then before. I grabbed her hips and threw myself into her. Saphira cried aloud, her voice echoing off the cavern walls. It sent chills down my body to hear her, to watch as she pressed herself against him. Again and again I threw myself into her, her arms wrapping around my neck, crying out my name.

"Eragon!"

The shattering release took her, arching her body ever closer to mine. I watched her face, watching those blue eyes stare at me as she was carried away, glazing over in rapture. I found my own desperate release, my body tensing as I felt myself deep within her. My heart throbbed through my body, throbbed within her. She shuttered against me and moaned. I rested my forehead against hers and tried to catch my breath. I closed my eyes, caught in the after effects as I stayed deep within her.

"Eragon..". I felt her laughing softly.

"What?"

"What a wonderful way to wake up..". I chuckled aloud.

"I couldn't wait for you to wake up, sorry."

"Oh be quiet..." I laughed, causing me to move within her. She hissed aloud, as if in pain.

"I didn't hurt you did I?" She didn't respond right away.

"You were rather rough this time..." She accused me. I took her hand in mine and squeezed it, and opened my eyes to her.

"I'm sorry...I wasn't-"

"Oh, quit apologizing. All I said was that you were rough. I didn't say that I didn't enjoy it..." she trailed off and laughed aloud, opening her eyes. Her blue gaze traced my face, and sent shivers through me again.

"I hope no one heard you." I said as I tickled her again.

"You are so..."

I kissed her mouth before she went on. I pulled myself away from her and lay beside her warm body. Gently, I broke the kiss and wrapped my arms around her, urging her closer to me. She rested her head in the crook of my shoulder, sighing. She fit perfectly.

We laid there for what seemed forever until she pulled away from me.

"What is it?" I asked concerned. She looked around the cave and sighed.

"Its daylight." She said sadly. I felt a pang within my stomach, soon people would summon me.

She rose from the cushions and walked away from me, her wings were covering herself once more in modesty. I watched her look out the cave and got up to join her. I grabbed a warm blanket with me as I rose. She was gazing about the hold with wistful eyes. I wrapped my arms and the blanket around her when I got to her and held her to my naked body. She shivered.

"Eragon, you must tell no one of this." Her voice was soft yet firm. I kissed her shoulder lightly.

"Your secret is safe with me."

Saphira turned in my arms and looked into my eyes, her face hard.

"No one must EVER know Eragon...not even your human lovers and eventual...your wife." The last word seemed to cause her more pain then the others combined.

I turned my face away at the very thought of lying with another but her. It wasn't something I wanted to think about then.

"But you must think of it eventually Eragon. It is something that is done...I cannot be your wife and soon I cannot be your lover."

I looked at her and slipped my arms down her to capture her hands, passing her wings. Her hands were warm and soft, like the rest of her body. The very though of not being able to love her in the way they just explored was hurtful, but I knew it was to be the truth. I just couldn't come to grasps with it. I knew it would be expected to wed a human woman, bear other Riders if possible...but I could not continue my love filled nights with Saphira. I kissed the palms of each hand and looked into her blue eyes. Not wanting to face the bitter truth so soon.

"Then we best make the most of the night we have now."

We lied there well into the day together. I had told the little dwarf that came that I had wanted the day to rest with Saphira, being still weary from the trip we undertook. It was a harmless lie, but one I would tell over again if I had the chance.

We spent the day playing, exploring each other, exploring our minds and bodies. She was amazing, her energy being near spent after each merge.

"Is it hard for you to stay in this form?" I asked her later on. She nuzzled my neck, sending cascading shivers through out my body.

"It takes up a lot of energy...but not all of it."

I smiled at the hints in her voice. I rolled onto my side and looked at her. Her wings were folded delicately behind her, her tail twitching back and forth...she was exotic.

I t was a little before noon when I realized that I had an audience with the king that night. I didn't want to leave but I figured that I better start getting ready.

"Well the first thing I need is a bath," I said chuckling to myself.

"We both need one," Saphira said looking herself over. I turned and put my clothes back on and walked down the stairs, towards the hot spring. One thing I failed to notice was the knowing smile on Saphira's face as I passed out of sight.

I slowly descended down the rocky stairs, still thinking about all that had happened. I wondered how I was going to be able to be with anyone else after sharing what I had with Saphira. I knew that I had to do what she said but some small part of my mind kept telling me that I couldn't. The other side it said that I had to try and birth other Riders. I had to continue the bloodline after all. The thought pulled at my heart. Once again my heart and my brain tore me in two different directions.

The stairs suddenly stopped and I was once again facing the huge cavern. I gazed across the cave, taking in the warm steam and minerals that wafted lazily in the air. The only thing disturbing the crystal clear water was the casual dripping emanating from the many stalactites that hung from the ceiling. I disrobed, setting my clothes aside and slipped a foot experimentally in the water. The water was very hot but not hot enough to burn. I slipped the rest of my body into the soothing waters with a sigh.

The engineering of the dwarfs amazed me again when I found the sides of the spring totally smooth. My feet slid effortlessly across the bottom as I moved to the center. I soon remembered that the center of the hot spring was the deepest part, reaching down to about five feet. I looked back to the edge of pool only to find it shrouded in mist. I closed my eyes and breathed in the hot moist air that was all around me. I tried not to think, which I soon found to be impossible so I decided to think about my problem instead. The first one that popped into my head was my current dilemma. I knew, deep down that I would never be able to be with another. Nothing seamed more appealing then spending as much time with Saphira as I could. The thought of spending time with another just made me shiver.

My profound thoughts were interrupted by a small splashing sound near the entrance. I strained my eyes to try and see through the mist but that was all I saw, mist. Not even my enhanced Rider senses could pierce it. Suddenly I felt movement in the water; I backed up to the side of the pool. For a split second I thought of jumping out of the pool but I suppressed it.

Whatever this thing was I knew running wasn't the way to fight it. I moved cautiously out into the middle of the spring again, thinking if I was in the middle I could see it no matter which direction it was coming from. My eyes darted back and forth for a few seconds. I stood their motionless for several minutes, nothing.

I began to think I had just been imagining things when I heard something directly behind me. I turned but not fast enough the thing was on me. The last thing I remember was, its sharp fangs sinking into my neck.

My hearing was the first thing to return. At first all the sounds were chaotic and mixed together. Slowly my hearing cleared and I opened my eyes. Unlike my ears everything snapped to sharp focus as soon as I opened them. I soon became aware that I was lying on my stomach half in the water.

"Are you alright Master Rider," came a gruff voice. I looked up to see my dwarf friend looking down at me, with a half concerned and half amused look. He was carrying a lantern in his right hand

"Oh hello," I managed to spit out. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Thank you."

"Alright, what ever you say," he said shrugging. I watched him slowly walk up the stairs. All of a sudden my mind snapped back to what had happened to me. I looked around, I appeared to be alone.

"What the hell was that?" I thought to my self.

"Some Rider you are," came an airy reply.

"Saphira, where are you?" I said rather loudly. My voice echoing off the cavern wall.

"You don't have to yell you know," she said as she came out from behind a large boulder with a slightly annoyed look and slipped quietly into the water.

"Sorry, how long have you been there?"

"Not too long, why?" she said swimming over to me. The ripples that her body made washed up my chest.

"I don't know. I thought you might have seen something," I said as she moved behind me.

"Like what?" she said running her hand along my neck.

"Whatever it was it had sharp teeth,"

"How do you know that?" She said putting on her best worried look.

"It bit me. It didn't really hurt but still. It could have had some kind of poison or some-." I gasped as my last word was cut short as Saphira nipped my neck.

"That one didn't make you pass out at least," she said with a quiet chuckle.

"Well, you have odd ways of getting my attention, I'll say that much."

"I didn't think you'd faint like that, that's for sure. Some Rider you are."

"Now that was a low blow. What are you doing here anyway?" I said gliding behind her, between her wings.

"Well, I said I needed a bath so I figured why not. There are no other Riders or Dragons here, it's just us."

"I like the way your mind works," I said kissing the back of her neck, which quickly turned into a bite. She arched her shoulders as I whispered into her ear,

"Turnabouts fair play."

"Ok, that was not fair," she said in a quivering voice

"Neither is this," I said as I dragged my hands UP her back. My nails sliding over her toned form. I slowly moved to her wings, tracing every line lightly with my fingers. I could see that her wings were shaking slightly at this touch.

She hissed slightly, turning around faster then I had anticipated, her body moving suggestively, making the water ripple around us. Her eyes were clear, and dark. Unreadable, but I knew what was lurking behind them. She opened her exotic wings, stirring the water around us. I smiled, tracing the soft skin. She hissed softly as I ran over a tender spot and saw it was a scar.

My heart fell in my chest, but I felt Saphira snaked a slow hand up my chest, smooth as silk against my heated skin. She moved closer, leaning down toward my neck, pressing her self against me, sending my blood to my loins faster then anything I had ever experienced. All my thoughts seem to fade away as she touched me. The hot water here in this spring could do nothing to warm me like Saphira's touch did, making it seem as though it was luke-warm. I reached into her mind and found her laughing softly.

"What?"

"I believe we should bathe together more often." The first touch of her fangs against my skin made me gasp aloud, their pressure building slightly, experimentally.

"I do believe you are right..." I moved behind her and ran my hands up her body, caressing the base of her tail and moved slowly up through the water to her wings and nipped near where they met her beautiful body. She cried out in shock and pleasure, I smiled wickedly.

"Really?" I said biting slightly harder, feeling her shiver in pleasure, her moans deep. She turned on me and wrapped her slick arms around my neck, pulling me ever closer to her. She bit my neck hard and fast, moving up toward my ear, to the tender flesh beneath it. I shivered and grasped her waist. When she traced it with her tongue, I moved my hips against hers, feeling her warm, wet body against mine. My blood was humming once again, throbbing in my body as she nibbled and ran her tongue down my earlobe, nipping. I was incoherent to everything, the sounds of the water dripping down gone. All I knew was her.

"Saphira.."

I pulled away from her and kissed that tender spot on her neck, nibbling upon it slightly, watching as she shivered and closed her eyes. I glided behind her slowly, pulling her back onto me, feeling her wings on my body. She moaned slightly, arching her back as I reached over her wings and ran my hands slowly over their slick surface tracing the soft folds, watching her shiver.

"That, I'll never tire of doing..." I said chuckling. She hissed affectionately, making me smile. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders, holding her. I reached around her trembling body, caressing her hips, caressing her velvet belly to her breasts, weighing them both in my hands. She leaned against me, leaning her neck to my shoulder, her mouth opened in a soundless moan as I traced the erect nubs of her nipples.

"I do hope our dwarf friend has left entirely..." Saphira said seductively. I smiled wider.

"A do I..."

I pressed my hips to her back, feeling the desire welling up with in me again, her tail flickering in the water, stirring it between us. She too, it seemed, felt the desires again. I heard her laugh softly as she leaned away from me, turning around to face me. Her eyes dancing. I smiled.

"What?" She was silent though, pushing me against the side of the pool, smiling wickedly. The smooth sides rubbing against my back sent more shivers down my body. Her wings folded against her body as she pressed herself against me. She was slick, her already velvet body moving over mine like silk. She bit me again, hard enough for it to boarded on pain, and slowly she nibbled down my body, I moaned.

"Now..."

I watched her as she went lower, her tongue flickering across my chest, and setting electric fire to my loins. I shuddered, and watched as she released me and slipped beneath the water. I could feel her mouth caressing my skin just below my navel, feeling her velvet hands making their way up my inner thigh. Her mouth caressed my needy flesh, enveloping my manhood in her mouth. I cried out in the foreign sensation, rubbing my hands along the ridge of her neck, the ridges tickling my senses. Well, what was left of them...My mind floated above all coherent thought, remaining blissfully blank. I reached for her mind and found laughter once again.

"Turnabouts fair play..." She said innocently.

I smiled and bit the inside of my cheek as her hands found my essence, staring into the steam, watching it play along the waters surface. She squeezed them slightly, but enough to send my body twitching, making a moan escape my lips, making me realize the needs building inside me. I felt her warm tongue, dancing along the rim of my head, making my mind fog. I strained my body, feeling her tongue run over the underside.

I could feel my body convulsing, and I tried to remain still. But it seemed my body had a will of its own, a need for the instant release building within me. I ran my hands over her head, and began to move. She stilled me, putting a hand against my hips, pressing me down. I clenched my teeth, my body teetering along the edge of pain, longing for the sweet release of my body. I closed my eyes taking in the feel of her hot, wet mouth.

"Saphira..."

I growled within my mind, feeling the tension in my body, the strain. I felt the need spread through my body, curling its way up my spine, and down to my toes. I sent these feelings to her, wanting her to know what she was doing. But then she stopped, licking the tip and rising out of the water, smiling devilishly. The need was still too strong to form anything resembling words, actions or even sounds. She pressed herself against me again, wrapping her arms around my neck. She bit me lightly, causing my knees to weaken slightly.

"I know love..."

She crooned softly. My breath was shallow now, the hunger of my body throbbing through me painfully. Slowly she lifted her self up and wrapped her long slender legs around my hips, setting the tip of my manhood to her. I held her hips and thrusted into her hard. She cried out loud.

"Careful..."

She cried softly. I reached in her mind and felt the same hunger there, the ruthless needs coiling within her entire body, snaking their way through out her body. I stood there in the water shaking, trying to keep my knees from falling under us, not wanting to drop her. Saphira wrapped her arms tighter around my neck and began to move, the walls of her tightening with each movement. I felt as though I would cry, feeling the peak rising within with a force, unlike before. I held onto the edge as long as I could, waiting to feel Saphira. It seemed like a blissfully agonizing eternity until I felt her contract strongly around me and her heat began to lessen slightly. She cried out loud, her voice echoing off the steam, into my heart. My own release was just as sweet, making my eyes roll up into the back of my blank mind.

We were both trembling when the ecstasy ended, and our bodies attempted to recover from their taxed sensations. I leaned against the wall of the pool trying to stop my trembling knees. Saphira lay limp in my arms, her breathing rapid and hard as mine was. We were struggling to breath through the heavy steam encircling us like a blanket. I suddenly wished we were back at the cave, amongst the soft pillows. To lay Saphira upon them, and lie with her forever. My body thrummed blissfully, but my strength was waning faster then I could have imagined. I searched my shattered thoughts for some way...but my head was fogging, my limbs relaxing, threatening to drop Saphira.

She slowly stirred in my arms, lifting her head slowly off my shoulders. Carefully she unwrapped her legs from my hips, lifting herself from their union and reached for the edge of the pool. I reached out to her in her mind but saw nothing, but felt satisfaction and love for me.

It seemed like hours until we could talk, physically and mentally. My body seemed to be still rocked by the sweet release. I looked upon Saphira and smiled weakly. Her body was slick with the steam of the spring. I touched her shoulder lightly; it was smooth as if she were made of the water itself. She looked at me with her blue eyes clearly telling me she loved me.

"You started it..." I said weakly. She smiled sticking her tongue out slightly.

"And I also finished it!" She said triumphantly. I laughed and came closer to her.

"Do you think we can bathe before we both-?"

"Yes." Saphira said aloud. We both laughed, the rich sound echoing off our bodies and off the walls. I reached for the soap and a piece of cloth. But when I turned around Saphira was gone.

"Saphira?" I waded out to the center of the spring and lathered the soap into the wet linen. Where had she gotten too? I reached out to her but found nothing; it was as if she was too far away for me to call her.

"Saphira?" I felt something nip my hip and squeaked in surprise. It wasn't a very dignified sound for a Rider to make, and I felt myself blushing.

"Saphira..." But she was gone again. I rolled my eyes and watched as she came back up. She looked at me, smiling.

"Some Rider you are..." She said again, and I blushed. So she had heard that squeak. I smiled lightly and held up the soap and the soapy cloth.

"We better start before anything else happens," I said watching her come forward.

"Ok squeaky," she said laughing

"Har, har. Very funny."

"Sorry," she said gliding up next to me.

"No you're not," I said as turned and dabbed some of the soap on her nose, She smiled back at me. "It doesn't matter anyway," I said reaching over her shoulder, and running the cloth down the back of her neck, slowly kneading her sore neck "I don't know if I'm a good Rider anyway."

"Why would you say something like that?" she asked as she washed my soar shoulders.

"Oh, I don't know," I said looking away

"Come on Eragon. I know you do, tell me," she said putting her hand on my cheek and pulling my face back so she was looking me in the eye.

"Well, you hear about how noble the Riders were and I kind of feel less than. Now don't get me wrong, I love you and our relationship," I said quickly. "But I feel as though I have sunk beneath what is expected of me as a Rider. I feel that I have dishonored you and myself by doing the things that I have done," I finished and sank down into the water. She sank as well and looked at me,

"You know, I had a say in this whole thing too, you know. I could have said stop, or something. It takes two, you know."

"I know," I said halfheartedly.

"Eragon, you need to stop worrying about this. What's done is done and there's nothing either of us can do to change that."

"I just don't like living a lie. Maybe I should just tell the King."

"No! You can't! I don't even want to think about what might happen if you did that," she shivered at the thought.

"I know, I know but maybe the king will understand."

"That's a big if, Eragon."

"I would take full responsibility for it and whatever happens happens. You and I both know that we can't keep the secret."

"Yes we can Eragon, please don't tell the King. I don't even want to think about what might happen if you do. I don't want to lose you," she said, floating closer. I put my arms around her and cradled her softly.

"I know, and I don't want to lose you either." I said as she put her head on my chest. "I have been thinking about what you said, about never telling anyone about us. At first I though I could but now I know that I can't, I can't just pretend that I don't love you, no mater how hard I try. I love you Saphira, I have never been surer of anything in my life, except one thing," I said with a sigh. She lifted her head and looked me in the eye,

"What is that one thing?"

"That I know we can't keep this a secret."

"Eragon, please don't..." she pleaded.

"I have to Saphira," I said rising out of the water. I walked over to a towel that I had thrown on a rock and started drying off. Saphira came out of the warm water after me,

"Well if you're so sure that the king will understand, then I guess I have no choice but to go with you."

"And how are you going to that? I don't think that the king will approve of a dragon in his thrown room."

"I can go like this. I saw a set of robes when I came down, here they are," she said lifting up an old black robe. She slipped it on and pulled the hood up. It was true, no one would be able to tell it was her. My mind played with the idea of having her come with me but I quickly pushed it aside,

"Saphira, I can't let you put yourself in danger. I will go talk to the king alone."

"No, you can't do it alone. We are in this together. I can't-."

"Saphira, please," my voice was harsh but also pleading. She stepped back, her ears flat. I think it was the first time I had used a sharp tone with her. "I can't and I won't let anything happen to you," I said as I felt edgings of tears forming in my eyes but I held them.

"Don't you get it, Eragon. I don't want anything to happen to you either..." she said after I had gone.

I turned and walked up the stairs quickly to hide my tears. No mater what happened I needed to keep her out of this. I can't let her get hurt, I repeated to myself. I knew what I was doing was right but I just couldn't erase her hurt face from my mind.

"Dam it!" I cursed as I slammed my fist against the wall of the stairs. "This wasn't meant to be like this." I knew that I could solve this by just not telling anyone but I knew that would eat me up inside and I knew it would do the same to Saphira. No mater the cost I needed to do this. I strengthened my resolve and continued up the stairs.

In no time at all I found myself standing in front of the huge pair of oak doors that marked the king's chambers. I knocked loudly on the doors and stepped back as they opened. The king was sitting at ornately carved table with books and maps spread around him,

"Ah, Eragon. Come in, come in," he beckoned me in with a hand. I walked over to the table and sat down across from him,

"Excuse me for interrupting your work, m'lord but I needed to seek your council on a very delicate matter."

"Oh, it's no problem at all. Now, what do you wish to discuss with me, Eragon." His tone was cheery and carefree. I almost didn't want to drop this on him now.

"It is not easy for me to say. I feel that I have..." I stopped.

"Yes, go on." He prompted gently.

"I feel that I have dishonored myself and Saphira."

"Why would you say something like that? What has happened?"

"Well, m'lord as you know, nobody knows the full extent of a dragon's power. I have found one such power that I don't think has been encountered yet." I was starting to sweat now. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

"That is true. Eragon, what would this power be," he asked folding his hands on the table. I took a deep breath and described the whole thing, the transformation, the love making and my feelings for Saphira. After I finished talking I felt so much better, it felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulder.

I looked to the king for his reaction but his face was unreadable.

"Eragon..." he began. "This is a very strange situation indeed and I must admit that I do not know how to handle it. Let me ask you this, why do you think that you have dishonored Saphira?" His question caught me off guard and I stared back at him.

"Well, I just feel that I have sunk beneath what a Rider should be. That I am less than for giving in this temptation."

"Was it merely lust or love? Even though they can be hard to tell apart sometimes, they are as different as night and day."

"M'lord, I can say for sure that it was love. Even though she is not quite human I love her more that anything.

"That's good if your going to be with her for the rest of you life as a Rider. Eragon, what you do is none of my business. As far as I am concerned you may do as you wish. As for being dishonorable, love is never dishonorable. Some people will not understand you and this decision but when a sin is made in love it becomes something else, something better. When the time comes you will know that you made the right decision," and with that the king went back to his papers. I was at a loss for words. All I could do was sit there, numbly.

"M'lord, if I may ask, why are you not angry with me. I would have though for sure that I had committed a sin. Have I or not?"

"You have, but it is of little consequence. I once knew a young man that did the exact same thing you are right now and I think he turned out alright."

"What was his name?"

"His name, hmmm, I can't seem to remember that right now. Oh well, off with you now." I rose and walked back to the big oak doors and was about to leave when the kings voice caught me.

"Oh yes, now I remember his name. Does the name Brome mean anything to you? I shook my head as my insides leapt for joy. I closed the door and leaned up against its rough surface.

"Even I death you are with me, thank you my friend," and with that I walked down the passageway to rejoin Saphira.
