Can't Keep My Eyes Off of Him (Part 1/8)
Xavier's paw slowly made its way down Dylan's chest, eliciting sharp gasps from the dragon. As the otter descended lower and lower, Dylan's arms wrapped around Xavier's body tighter and tighter. "I love you," whispered Xavier, pressing his muzzle against Dylan's open mouth.
A loud ringing noise awoke Dylan from his dream. "Wh-what was that!? Dang!" he thought to himself. He hit the alarm clock as hard as he could, but he was still confused by his shocking dream. But his tiredness was unrelenting. "I'll just let mom wake me up," he thought sleepily. Suddenly, the realization that both his mother and older sister were on a trip to see a friend came crashing down upon him. "FRICK!" he yelled. He had to get up now or miss school. The shock had raised his heart rate enough so he could get out of bed with relative ease.
Dylan quickly dressed in red shorts and a green shirt, being careful not ripping them open with his spines. It was nearly pointless of wearing green because it would just blend into his scales. At five feet seven, Dylan wasn't exactly the tallest kid in school. But his blue and purple horns did add a couple of inches of height to his stature. He had always been told that his red eyes were creepy and disturbing, but he thought that they complemented his green color nicely. But his most distinguishing feature was his spines. Dylan had a trail of blunt spines running down his back. They used to be blue, the same color as his horns, but he colored them in a rainbow pattern to make them more exciting.
Dylan looked at his digital watch, and nearly gagged on his juice. He normally biked to school, and it took him a good thirty minutes. He lived four miles away from Logan High School, where he was a junior. "Screw breakfast," he thought, as he grabbed his bag and rushed out the door on his bike.
The bell rang for sixth period. It was always Dylan's favorite period, regardless of what class he had. As long as it was the last class of the day, it was enjoyable for him. On Thursdays, it was Pre-Calculus. Although Dylan usually enjoyed math, he recently found himself having a difficult time focusing. No matter how hard he tried to concentrate, his eyes always found themselves fixated on a certain brown otter: Xavier. This did not have a large effect on Dylan, for he already knew all of the material in the class. However, it puzzled him why that certain canine was giving him such a hard time concentrating. At first, he assumed it was simply because Xavier sat in front of Dylan, so he had no choice but to look at him. But when the teacher made them change seating arrangements, his eyes still flitted over to the far left, staring at the otter. Dylan found himself in such a predicament at that moment. He cast his line of sight to the window, and saw the figure that so often caused him so much trouble.
Xavier was mostly brown, but his muzzle and ears were part gray. He was slightly taller than Dylan. Although Dylan was in an advanced math class for his year, Xavier had followed him since the sixth grade. Through random chance, they had always been in the same math class, but it was only recently that Dylan found himself being distracted.
The bell broke him free from his absent-mindedness, and he started packing his things. The rest of the class had already sauntered out the door. While Dylan was occupied with staring, his classmates had already packed their things in the last few minutes of class. The dragon stood up, and almost fell over. Xavier was standing right next to his desk. "Hey!" Xavier said exuberantly.
"Hi Xavier!"
"Hey Dylan, are you ready?"
Both the boys biked together from school. Xavier also lived quite far from Logan High, but not quite as far as Dylan. However, they lived near enough so they could bike together from school. On their bike rides, they had a good twenty-five minutes to talk. At first they would tell jokes and funny things that happened to them, but Dylan had become quieter and quieter. Xavier hardly noticed his reticence. Instead, the otter would chatter excitedly about his plans for the afternoon, less excitedly about his homework, and downright dejectedly about his grades. Dylan just pedaled silently, still sneaking glances at Xavier. However, that day, Xavier was as shy and quiet as Dylan was. He kept biting his lower lip in what looked like anxiety. Dylan noticed this, and asked "Xavier, are you okay there?"
"Yeah, I'm good. It's just...I have a lot on my mind right now"
"Oh, okay. Um, if you need anything, I'll help you," Dylan offered.
"No, it's okay. I'm fine. Um, how was your day?"
"Can't complain. You?"
"Same as you"
After a few moments of an uncomfortable silence, they finally reached the street where Xavier lived. "Bye Dylan! I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Bye Xavier!"
Dylan started biking a little faster after Xavier left. He told himself that Xavier was just too slow and that's why he was going faster afterwards, but he knew that he pedaling harder to crush a sense of sadness in his heart. Every time Xavier left, Dylan would feel his chest get a little emptier, as if a vacuum had been created inside him. He pedaled harder still. The wind blew past his ears, making a loud noise. The air also assaulted his eyes, making it difficult to see. It was winter, and the coldness was stinging. He just wanted to be home.
The glorious warmth that welcomed him as he walked into his house was amazing. Dylan sighed as he took off his pack, and unloaded his school gear. He opened his planner, and tapped his pencil against the page. "HA! Lucky!" he shouted, not caring that no one was there to hear him, "Only biology homework, yes!" For Dylan, biology was more of a reward than a task. He loved the subject, and always did the work enthusiastically. He took out his worksheet, and started filling in the answers by heart. He never used the textbook. In a matter of a couple of minutes, he finished. "Hmm... what to do..." he pondered. He turned on his computer, and checked his email. "Oh! A new episode of Pony Friendship is out!" he exclaimed. Pony Friendship was a very popular television show designed for little girls. However, as it turns out, most of the audience consisted of older males. Dylan was one of them; he loved the show. The show was what brought him and Xavier together, after all.
Dylan's mother had given him a T-shirt for his birthday. It had a picture of his favorite Pony from the show on it. He proudly wore his shirt to school. To his chagrin, most of his classmates laughed at him, calling him gay for watching a little girls' show. Xavier and Dylan had known each other before, but they never truly conversed with each other. Dylan slumped in his seat as his so called friends were still snickering at his taste in programs.
_ "Hey, dude," Xavier said, putting his paw on Dylan's shoulder from behind._
_ Dylan turned around. "Oh. You going to make fun of me too?"_
_ "Nope. I love that show. My favorite pony is Sunset Glow"_
_ "Oh I like Scarcity"_
_ "That's cool," Xavier said, nodding, "Do you want to come to my house after school? We can watch the new episode together"_
_ "That'd be really awesome, Xavier! Thanks!"_
_ An instant rapport between the two was established, thanks to one little show._
Dylan checked for the new episode, but to his dismay, it had been postponed to next week. He sighed and exited from his browser.
Just at that moment, a small notification popped up in the corner of his screen. Dylan recognized it as Xavier starting a chat with him.
" hey dylan" it said.
Dylan clicked on it and quickly typed a response.
" oh hey xavier"
" um... this is kinda hard for me"
" oh whats wrong xav?"
" can we talk later?"
" yeah sure. what time?"
" how about after school tomorrow? we have precalc last again, we'll meet up then?"
" sure. cya"
" bye"
Dylan couldn't quite figure out why, but he was looking forward to the meeting. In fact, he couldn't wait.
The rest of Thursday flew by quickly. Perhaps it had been sped up by the three-hour nap Dylan took. Despite this, he still found himself tired enough to fall asleep easily at night. But most puzzling of all was how sleepy he found himself in the morning despite sleeping for a full twelve hours. "How is this even possible?!" he thought to himself bitterly. He didn't even want to get up at all. His arrangement to meet Xavier rushed back into his mind, and he found himself excited to get through the day. He wanted to talk to Xavier. It didn't matter that Xavier was nervous. It just mattered that they were going to meet.
Dylan's morning classes did not fly by. Instead, they crawled. Slower than molasses, they inched past him. He was sure he hadn't checked the clock for a good five minutes, but it had only been forty seconds. He groaned.
Finally, it was time for Pre-Calculus. Dylan rushed to his classroom. Although the students of Logan High were given five minutes to get to their next class, it was sometimes a struggle for Dylan because he had to travel all the way across the school campus. He speed-walked to the Math building, with only one thing in mind: Xavier.
Suddenly, Dylan felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder. It felt as though he'd slammed into a pole. He did a double take, whipping his head around. Blitz was standing there, with a smirk on his face. "Watch where you're going, scaly boy!" he yelled. Dylan sighed, and kept going.
Blitz was one of the only bullies in the school. He and his gang terrorized absolutely anyone for any reason. Logan High had a relatively friendly atmosphere, and people were very amiable to one another. However, Blitz and his friend Flare were an exception. Flare was a hare. He was a lot smaller, and also much quieter than Blitz. Although they were always seen together, Flare never actually bullied anyone. Others just assumed he was under protection by Blitz, although that left some questions unanswered as well. Blitz was generally feared and also hated in the school. All the students had good reasons to fear him. He was an incredibly formidable wolf. He was much larger than anyone else was, and it looked like he could tear anyone to shreds if he wanted to. Dylan was still feeling the shoulder slam.
Dylan continued walking to his class, surprised that he arrived on time. Xavier was already in his seat, with his head down. The dragon worriedly approached him, but the bell rang before the otter even noticed. Defeated, Dylan retreated back to his own seat and took out his notebook.
That Pre-Calculus class was by far the longest of the entire day. The clock ticked slower than Dylan could possibly imagine, and the sideways glances he gave to Xavier were not helping. They made him more eager for the class to end so they could talk. As time passed, he could feel his eyelids dropping, and his back slumping into his chair. He sighed as he relaxed further, amidst discussions of binomial curves. He had closed his eyes for two seconds when the bell rang, shocking him out of his peaceful state.
He quickly gathered his things and walked over to Xavier's desk. The otter had just finished packing his supplies, and faced Dylan. "Um...you probably want to know what I want to talk to you about," he said nervously, holding his arm with one paw.
"Oh yeah...is something wrong, Xavier?" Dylan asked, concerned.
"Um...can we talk at my house? Please?" Xavier pleaded, looking desperate.
"Sure. I didn't bike today, I took the bus. It'll take awhile to get there"
"No, that's okay. I drove too, so I can take you there and also take you home"
"Really? Thanks!"
Dylan followed Xavier to his car, practically skipping with happiness. "I get to go to Xavier's house!" he thought to himself, almost singing it.
Dylan opened the door to the sleek blue vehicle and climbed inside. In a few seconds, they were already on the road. Since there was hardly any traffic, the ride was quick. However, Dylan could not keep his eyes off Xavier. "He looks kind of cute when he's nervous," he thought. As soon as he said it in his mind, he opened his mouth in surprise. "What?! No! Those aren't thoughts to be having about your friend!" he scolded himself mentally. Before he could question himself further, they had arrived at Xavier's home.
Dylan waited on the doorstep while Xavier opened the door with his key. "My parents are away on business trips, so it's just me for awhile," he explained. Dylan stepped through the threshold, following Xavier into the hallway. "Do you want anything to drink?" he asked.
"Oh no thanks," Dylan said, shaking his head quickly, "What was it you wanted to talk about?"
Xavier started biting his lower lip again, causing Dylan to blush slightly at the sight. Suddenly, Xavier grabbed Dylan's claw, and pulled him upstairs. Dylan didn't know why, but just holding Xavier's paw was making his stomach feel funny. His blush became more pronounced, as did Xavier's.
The otter led him into his room. Dylan had been there before, but not in a long time. There was still a poster of Sunset Glow, his favorite pony, on the wall. Xavier sat down on his bed, still fidgeting his paws. He looked up at Dylan, who smiled gently back at him. Xavier gently patted his bed, inviting Dylan to sit down next to him. The dragon lowered himself onto the soft mattress. He noticed that there was a bottle of lotion, tissues, and a laptop next to his pillow. His eyes went wide as he pictured Xavier pleasuring himself. His blush returned, but something new arose. He himself was getting slightly more aroused. He quickly shook his head and returned his attention to Xavier.
To Dylan's surprised, Xavier was silently crying. Tears were leaking out of his dark blue eyes, and he was sniffling. Dylan gasped softly, unsure what to do. He desperately wanted to hug the otter, but he also was afraid it would bring forth some other unwanted responses. He decided on the choice he desired the most. In small steps, Dylan scooted forward toward Xavier, and wrapped his arms around him. Almost instantly, he felt the furry arms of Xavier hugging him back, while quietly sobbing into his shoulder. "Xavier...what's wrong?" Dylan softly cooed.
"I...I need to tell you something really important," the otter said between sniffles.
"It's okay. Whatever it is, everything will be fine," Dylan comforted.
Xavier looked up at Dylan, tears still flowing freely. "Promise me you won't hate me?"
"I could never hate you. You're my best friend"
"You know how some male furs like other guys?" Xavier asked quietly.
"Yeah, they're called gays, Xavier," the dragon said with a small smile.
"I know"
"So what does this have to do with you?" asked Dylan, although he thought he might know.
"I'm one of them, Dylan. I'm gay," the otter said quietly, then immediately sobbing into his friend's shoulder again.
"You are? Because I wouldn't like you any less. You're still my friend, no matter what gender you love"
"Thank you, Dylan," said Xavier, releasing the dragon from the hug, "Do you want me to drive you home?"
"No, it's okay. I can walk from here. It'll only take ten minutes"
"Okay...bye Dylan. Thank you for your support, I guess"
"Bye Xavier, and remember, I'll always be your friend, no matter what"
