Thanks for the coffee, and the hotel. I guess this thing really matters to you.

So where was I?

I know what I said, that that was my first zombie, and to me, it was. No doubt about it, there were zombies in the hospital, but to us, it didn't look that way. At that time, they had been patients. Patients with a heart rate of practically zero, and a craving for flesh, but still, they were considered patients.

Despite what they tell you, they don't just "Transform" Infection was caused by how many bites you took. Think of it like a bee sting, but more dangerous. The more stings you take, the more poisonous it is. With the T virus, one bite will eventually kill you, but depending on where it is will change how long before you die

Remember those flowers? Stairway to the sun? It created the Projenator virus, which is the base virus for the T-Virus. Do you remember what they said about it? Sheva Alomar and Chris Redfield, Africa incident. Well, the Ndipaya used the flower to see who would be the village chief. Basically, some people lived, some people don't. It's like that for the T-virus. Some people survive, others don't. How many people do I think are immune? Well... This is just off the top of my head, but out of three hundred people, only one will survive exposure.

It leads to all sorts of strange side effects, surviving that stuff. We saw that with Wesker. Or atleast, sort of.

If it's a small bite on the foot, sit back, relax, you got about a whole month. You get bit on the shoulder, you will be changed in a day or so.

Those guys in the mansion? They inhaled it. See, the T-Virus, it doesn't last long in open air, they all breathed it in, and then it took about a month or two before the last guy died and became the undead.

Anyways, where was I? Oh, right, in a controlled environment, I called them test subjects, or patients. In the open, they posed a threat, they were zombies.

I know, "test patients? You're SICK!" Well, guess what, anyone who is in the profession I'm in is like that! Here was a rare, unexplained, new virus, that we were dubbing the new plague, how do you think we would respond? It was our Christmas. No, it was out Treasure Island! Anyone who could figure this shit out would have money, power, every company would want them, including Umbrella.

Like I said, we didn't know at the time that it was Umbrella's fault. We were testing the rivers, the flora, the fauna, the meat at our local grocery store, anything to explain the virus, but we would never look at Umbrella, they owned us. THEY paid for our school's new things, THEY paid for the nice, drivable streets... We didn't know that they kept us so good for more than being good workers and customers.

Of course, we ask ourselves, why did they let this happen? If they had so many secret soldier factions, like the U.B.C.S. and the U.S.S., why didn't they let them out in the forest to kill the remaining zombies?

The answer? Research. S.T.A.R.S. Bravo teams helicopter was tampered with so it would go down, so Alpha team would go in. and Umbrella would get research on how trained professionals would handle B.O.W.s.

So what do you think Raccoon City was? It was to see how civilians handled the monsters, compared to S.T.A.R.S. Of course it was a disaster, that was the point! They needed to see how the fuck we would respond, and they got exactly what they wanted to hear. We fought, stole, murdered, an orgy of chaos, just what they wanted from the outbreak.

And see, if Yoko and those Umbrella Employees hadn't stood up to them, and Wesker never brought that information to court, they would have gotten away with it.

Fuck.. Wesker man, glad he's gone. Just think, everyone wanted him dead, but since he had valuable evidence, he couldn't be arrested until after the trial... And by that time, he was gone.

I'm sorry I keep getting distracted. I really, really don't want to talk about this.

The zombie turned towards me, its hands raised, and started for my window. I knew immediately the man was dead. The wound on him was massive, and with smaller wounds all over, so by then all I could think was "Ohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuck" Over and over again. I dropped the blinds, stepping back and falling over the coffee table. It started to beat against the window, and I knew it would get in soon. I did what any man would do in that situation.

I ran to my room and cowered. Zombies, man, they weren't supposed to exist. There were fires as well, and a car had crashed outside, I was a heavy sleeper back then, a pretty picture of the end of the world, right outside my door.

I was afraid, and I could hear the banging on my window. He was going to get in, and I had to do something, even in my fear I knew that. I had these knives from when I was little, hard to explain them, and I didn't bring the last one with me, but they, well, they look like those throwing knives they use in those Ninja movies. They were a gift from my grandfather, when he came to the states. I collected Asian stuff, I was really proud of my heritage, so he taut me how to throw those things.

It came in a pack of... Twelve, I think, I got it, the fanny pack I had from my last vacation to Caliban Cove, and my backpack.

You know how it is, you think you are a survivalist expert. I dumped everything out of my backpack, and got the first aid kit, some survival guides, and the like, but I put matches, the other survival kit, and a few other things in the fanny pack.

I was wearing blue jeans, the fanny pack was a belt like thing, so yeah, a red shirt, it had a black outline of a dog, and it said "UP DAWG" in big letters down the side. You know, the whole what's up dawg joke? Anyways, I also had my backpack, which had some edible food. but I put my Gameboy, the light thing for it, and several batteries, in this pocket of the fanny pack.

I know that sounds dumb, why the fuck would you carry a Gameboy? Well, it would help me relax. The world was ending around me, I wanted something that would make me feel better. I loved video games, so it was good.

By the time I was in my room, I heard the smashing of the window. That zombie didn't know where I was, but I had to leave. The only weapon I had in my room was my knives, and I wasn't going to get that close if I could avoid it.

I opened my window and gasped. I was terrified of heights, and being on the second floor was high enough to freak me out.

Now, like I said, I was at the outside of the city, yes, but the roads out of the city started around the center, we didn't know that they were being bordered.

I heard steps, it was coming up my stairs. Now or never, you know? Still, I was scared, that was when I remembered my rope. I had it from back when I had a tree house, and had kept it, and put it in my closet. I thought about it, did I have enough time? Could I look for it without making to much noise? What if I jumped and broke a leg? Lying on the ground, sobbing in pain, then something comes along and sees me, I wasn't going to let that happen.

I made not a damn sound, I remember that. And that creature when upstairs, down stairs, it was looking for me. It didn't know to open doors, but it knew food was somewhere.

I tied the rope to my bed, Said alittle prayer, and then climbed down.

I was alittle lanky back then, but I used to go camping, all that good stuff. I knew how to throw throwing knifes, so I guess I wasn't that inexperienced. Maybe I was a better survivalist then I thought, but all I could think was that I was going to die.

When I felt the ground, I closed my eyes and cursed myself mentally. I could have jumped that. I should have grabbed my rope, put it in my backpack, and climbed out of my window that best that I could.

I heard the moan as he fell. The fucker has somehow gotten into my room, and fell out of my window. I don't know why he went to my window, maybe because I was making noise as I was climbing, I dunno.

He landed right beside me, and didn't miss a beat. His arms started to search for me, to try and find me. I ran. I remember him moaning and crawling, but I was already to my neighbors home.

It was unlocked. And don't ask me why I went into his home. Maybe I was thinking that I needed to hide, maybe I wasn't thinking at all. for whatever reason, I went into her house.

Her name was Rei something, I don't remember her last name. Our neighborhood was full of Asians. You know how in Jurassic Park, that one chick breaks down crying when she slams the door on the Velociraptor? That's what I did. I broke down crying.

I felt like such a bitch. Here I was, sobbing my eyes out, over that. It sounds boring when I say it aloud. But that zombie was RIGHT THERE! Right the fuck there. I'm surprised I didn't shit myself.

So there I was, sobbing like a little girl, when I hear a gunshot. It was loud, and powerful, and fuck did it scare me.

Where did it come from, I wondered. Did it come from inside the house? Were there zombies here? Was it Rei? Or was it a thief? Should there be thieves yet? What if Rei was in trouble. I was scared for her, so I went upstairs, my hand going to the pack that carried the knives. I pulled one out. I didn't see anyone, so I decided to try the bathroom first.

I knocked on the door, trying to make enough noise so she would hear me, but not to much noise. "Hello." I said, so quietly I couldn't even hear it. "It's me, Jason." I opened the door, and vomited.

There she was, on the floor, self inflicted bullet wound in her forehead. There was blood... Blood and... and.

I'm sorry... the memory just... It gets to me, you know? I mean, fuck, what made her do that? What had she experienced in the past few hours that made her decide that living was impossible. Had she tried to leave town? what had she seen that I haven't. I was scared, but I also saw an opportunity.

I pulled her gun out of her hand. You would think, being dead, it would just slip out, She had only been dead a few seconds, and maybe it was because I was shaking bad, but I had to pry it out of her hand.

She held it with this grip that was like... Jesus... She was clinging to it. I finally got it undone.

It was a Beretta 92F/FS. I wasn't a gun man, so all I knew was, it was a gun.

Now see, we had some high tech things. Umbrella paid for alot of things, and that included the RPD weaponry. After S.T.A.R.S. came back blaming them, they said they had done nothing, and were ashamed at the S.T.A.R.S. members for not realizing their mistake in blaming them. They paid the RPD alot of money, as well as the town. And alot of that money went into the weaponry.

See, the police didn't know shit was going to hell, but they fucking knew that some bad shit was about to go down. Laser sights, those little flashlights things. Yeah, those were very new, but many of the RPD guns had them at the time.

I looked at Rei, then the gun. How the fuck did she get a RPD gun of THIS caliber? She was a party goer. Maybe she was at a club or a bar or something when it happened. A policeman tried to help her get out, and something happened to him. I don't fucking know, all I know is she had a very nice gun.

I checked the clip. I knew one bullet was in the chamber, and one had just been shot in... Rei... There were still thirteen bullets left.

I was afraid to do it, but I had to know. I turned her over, and began to search her pockets for another clip.

I didn't look at her face. I told myself if I looked at her face, it would be over. Her shirt had blood on it. I never looked up past her chest.

I finally found another clip, though it was empty. I suppose she had used it. I wasn't about to ask myself on what. I took a deep breath, got up, and left the room.

And I was knocked down.

It was like being hit by a brick wall. Something hit me with all its might, and I wasn't sure what it was.

That was when I heard the growling.

Ohfuck. Ohfuckohfuckohfuck, I thought that over and over. Maybe that was why she killed herself. One of those things got in her home, and it took an entire clip to kill one beforehand.

Don't you dare fucking look at me like that. "Just shoot the head" That's what all of you fucking say. Do you realize how HARD that is? To hit a moving target, in the head? Not only that, but imagine how scared you are.

This ain't a god damn movie, okay! You aren't going to be an ultimate badass. Anyone who hears my story and asks why we didn't just shoot for the head will get a fist to their face!

Sorry.... I just... It's hard. I have nightmares, to this day. and when people say that, it's like they are calling you an idiot. Imagine you are so afraid, your mind has to force you to move. Don't get me started on how difficult it is to shoot something that is moving, let alone a head.

I it had me pinned, and it was growling. It wasn't attacking me, just growling. Even though they were zombie dogs, they still had a dog mentality. It wasn't going to kill me until it knew I had given up, or I started to put up a fight.

I Didn't think, I just shot. It hit the dog in the side. They were called Cerberus, the dogs. That was by Umbrella, not us. Anyways, the dog fell of me, and I got up.

I didn't think, I just pulled out a knife from my pack, and sunk it, into the dogs chest.

It yiped, but still it was attempting to get up.

That was when I realized these things were truly dead. Some people say that somehow they are still alive. they are rotting, but the brain is still functional, and depending on means of infection, and all that jazz, they can even say a few words.

I pulled the knife out, my knees were on the dogs sides, so he couldn't get up, but God damn was he fighting.

I pulled the knife up, and swung it down.

And missed.

This thing was squirming, okay. I missed, and it snapped at my arm, barely missing. I swung again, and hit it, but it didn't go through the skull.

It's harder then you think to do something like that, and I wasn't exactly buff. I put my hands on the blade, pushing it down with all my might, feeling it sink down. Little by little, until the dog just stopped moving.

I stood up, panting from the adrenaline. I could still hear it howl right before I hit its brain.

I had killed my first zombie.

I didn't know that it had a dog mentality, and traveled in a pack. I didn't know that the howl was to summon the rest of its pack.

I hear a crash as a window downstairs was smashed through. I knew they would hear me. there were more then one, and I wasn't sure how the hell I would kill more than one at a time.

I didn't think, I just acted.

I Charged, putting my arms over my face, and hit the window with a speeding jump. the window pane broke, and I fell.

When I landed, I did so with a roll that left me a little dazed. I felt blood on my arm from the window, and I was left gasping for breath.

But I was still alive.
