Chapter 2: The City, a Girl, and a Wad of Cash.

Lenka found out the hard way the next morning that Leon, was in no way a 'morning person'. She tryed to wake him up and failed the first three times, she shoke him and he just rolled over, she called his name and she just got a rsponse that made no scence in return (something about, a mango and how to escape form prison useing only it.) and she even tryd to make loud nosies and that was just awnserd by him swating at her noise and said "Cut it out Mekkia, mom said i get to sleep in on saturdays. Then she thought the only way to wake him up, was to pour ice cold water on him or... she smiled and stradled his chest, then she leand down and let out a soft, purr as she looked strate down at him, and leand in closer. She sat there for a moment, and layed a long wet lick of her warm, rough, wet, tounge across the sensative ariea of his nose, and his eyes shot open. Leon sat there for a second dumbfounded as to what just happend.

Giggled at him and said "That did the trick. I liked to have never got you up, how much sleep do you need?" she had a playful tone in her voice.

He sat up and she got off him as she said, "Next time try cooking food at least theres a reward for wakeing up then." as he yawned, she thought to herself, 'I'd like to give you a reward, damn his butt is cute' as he got up and padded over to his pack and stated to dig for some food. Leon said as he fumbled trough his pack "Well i got bread and cheese or a field Ration, wich do you want for breakfast?"

Lenka thought as she realy wanted some kind of meat, but had little choise, "I'll have the bread and cheese special." as she smiled playfuly, as her tail twiched, as she awaited her meal. Leon tossed her a small loaf of bread and a hunk of cheese, then he pulled out a ration for him self, as he only had a day or two more rations left as he wached the feline happly devower the last of the real food that he had, but he wasnt worred if they needed food he could hunt again like he did a night or two ago, but there would be no need the nearest town was less than a days travle, and he had at least a weeks rations left. Lenka fineshed her meal just as Leon was finished packing his things which wasnt much, then he turned to her and tossed her a long dagger and sheath, "you know how to use one of those?"

Lenka smiled and spun it out of the sheath and held it for a second then twirld it around and quickly sheathed it again, "I think i can handle it" then she smiled at her impressive display hopeing he was impressed.

Leon blinked in shock then he smiled "Good." as he turned and slung his, still sheathed sword, over his sholder. "we should reach Volarc City by mid day if we keep to the road." Leon realy didn't know what would happen when thay got there if she would just leave or... what.... but he didnt want to ask he just wanted to make the fealing of beeing with some one last as long as it could.

Lenka's eyes lit up "your takeing me to the city!" she dove forward and hugged him around the neck, "Oh, wow, ive never been to the city befor.... and i thought that once my wounds heald... never mind..." she was quiet for a moment then she said "Leon?" as he looked up. "What do you do for money? I mean like a job?"

Leon scrached his head and then a bit embarsed he said "Well I'm sort of a Jack of all trades, I most often am a mercenary, but i only fight if the cause is worth it... fighting is pointless if you have no reason... so i always work for the good guys." as he smiled at the last part.

Lenka looked him in his eyes, "will you do a job for me?"

"Umm... sure, what do you need me to do?" he asked abit uneseay and also cureous as well.

She was still emberessed to ask but she needed an exuse to keep him around without being so forward. "Will you be my Body Gaurd?" and she was still trying to find out how she was going to pay him.

Leon smiled and sarcasticly said, "How do you plan to pay me? By going on a date with me or some thing?" leon was laughing as it relly was a joke and was about to tell her that he would do it for free since he had already started, but then he heard those words that he honestly didn't expect.

"OK." As she smiled very wide at both her problems solved them selves that way.

Leon could only think 'shes serious... i better not tell her it was only a joke then... she might change her mind' as he only smiled and noded as she said. "I had no idea you'd except that as payment, and i never would have thought of it my self." the feilne very content with the way things were going.

Thay had traveld most of the way and the city came into view, Lenka's eyes lit up again. "OH WOW, I had know idea that this city would be so huge. and is that a Castle i see off in the distence?"

Leon noded and said. "yup, thats Alengard nieghboring city to Volarc and this reagions capital." as he contued to walk.

Lenka keaped pace with him. "wow i had know idea that the citys were so close, it must only be a few hours travle from one to the other."

"Acualy thats an optical illusion, its realy a day and a half travel between the two, it only seems like less because the Palace is so large." leon groind like some one who spoke of first hand experince.

"Leon? Why are there so may people around in the city right now?" lenka asked as there where an unusual amount of people gathering around the city.

Leon thought for amoment, and sudenly remeberad. "Oh yeah. Theres a festavle its heald every year around this time i guess i forgot about it." as he said very calm.

Lenka looked like a cub in a candy store. "I've never been to a festavle before, but then I never left my village before either." then she thought. 'Oh how perfect now we can go on a real good date, and maybe i'll rent a privet room like what mom and dad always said that thay had got on the night of there joining, it will be so romantic'

Meanwhile Leon could almost see the wheels in her head turning and grearing like some crazy Gnomeish invention, and frankly it had him worried. They contiued on to the city gates the gate was crowded, and after afew hours of waiting to get in, they finaly reached the gates. As they aproched the main entrence Leon noticed that Lenka was hanging on his arm, he didnt say anything to her though, because as much as she wanted to be there, he wanted her to be there just as much. Thay aproched as the gaurd, a human in full armor and helm, stoped them and said, "5 zenny each, for entrence fee for the festavle, 20 zenny for your sword, and 3 zenny for the lady's dagger.... thats 33 zenny all togther, pay or leave now."

Leon was a bit shocked and then he looked up at the sign that said ~All who carry wepons WILL be charged acordingly to the size and leathl capeabilatys of there wepon.~ he grumbled a bit as he tossed the gaurd the 33 zenny only leaving him with 12 zenny. He wasn't very happy that he had to pay so much but it was ok because he had to go see Hiltez, the man that hired him to escort a caravan to the next town, and he need ot collect the other half of his pay. Just as thay started to strole through the streets, Leon noticed that Lenka was starting to purr, very loudly Infact. Leon felt a very warm feeling inside him as she hugged his arm, then he decided that he better not take her with him to see Hiltez, he was generaly on the good side of things but that was only because it benafites him, needless to say he realy didn't know what he would try to pull on him if he came there with some strange female that he didnt exspect and, had never met befor. So he found an Inn and told Lenka that he had some buissness to atend to and that he would meet up with her hear in an hour, she was abit worried at first but when he tossed her the 12 zenny that he had left and told her to have a bite to eat and use the rest to go have fun, she squiled with over wealming glee. She relly took him by surprise when she dove forward and hugged him tightly, and even kissed him on the cheek.

Lenka smiled at him she thought to her self as he walked off 'Wow this is perfect I can plan every thing out with out him knowing, humm... now where to start... I know I'll get a room... one with a bath, hee hee this is goning to be so perfect.' as she happly bounced into the tavern, she padded her happy little ass up to the counter, "Exsuese me sir... do you have any rooms avalible?"

The stout, gray haird dwarf at the counter replyed, "Maybe I do lass, what kind of room ye be looking for?" as he cocked an eyebrow with an inquisitive look on his face.

It was then she noticed that this place didn't have many patrons and was slightly dingie. "Well sir, I was looking for a room that my self and my... companion may stay for the night or maybe longer, preferably one with a bath and a doubble bed... but if you dont have one, I-I understand sir." as she tilted her head and folded her ears back at the intimadating dwarf.

The dwarf started to laugh, "Lass, you've no need to be afrade of me... your a very nice and well mannerd lass, I'll tell you what give me your name the name of your "companion" and i might have such a room, and mind you I dont rent this room to just any one." as he seemed more kindly than befor as he gave her a warm fatherly smile.

Lenka smiled and blushed at his kindness. "My name's Lenka, and my companions name is Leon."

The dwarf Cut her off and bellowed. "Leon! BWAAHAAAAHAAHAA... you mean a tall wolf, white fur, and the finest blade these old eyes have come across in a very long time, that Leon?" the old Dwarf's bellow ecoed through the taverns main room many people turnd to look but when thay saw who it was thay quickly turned around and contnued went about there buissness.

Lenka looked at him with shock "You... know Leon?..."

The dwarf laughed again somewhat quieter than befor. "What Leon, Ahh Lass you picked a good one you did, He's one of my Favorit costomers, why that lad has done more good than you'll ever know, each time he comes back from his adventures with a different story to tell, and for one so young he's had more adventure than I could have only even imagend as his age and let me tel...." and then he stoped, "Look at me, Going on and not introduceing my self." he gave a polite bow and said. "My name is Dygrid Flintforge III, and it is a plesure to meat the lass that Leon has taken for his mate."

Lenka blushed a very bright red, "Well Dygrid, I'm not his mate, but one can dream..." as she sighed and looked down at the table.

Dygrid's eyes went wide, "You mean to tell me that he hasn't grabed up a fair flower such as your self at his first chance, I swear if that boy was half as sharp as his blade he would have, and you two been travleing to gether for how long?"

Lenka smiled at the dwarfs coment, "Well we only met yesterday..."

Then she was cut off, "Too long, you seem like his type, and I'll tell you lass he's had his fair share of all kinds of females who come about asking for him, and your the first one that I said that to. And lass I'm seldom wrong when it comes to these things." Then he remeberd her origonal question. "So, It's a room your after? Follow me Lass." As he noded to the waitress To keep an eye on things, and he lead her in to the back and passed the stock room and he looked around supiciously, and he pulled down a set of stairs that lead up to a door, the dwarf stoped at the door and turnd to her. "Now lass, as i said befor this is not a room I give every one, and I beleave that its just what your looking for." as he opend the door and she saw a large room with doubble bed, and a soft down blanket. Next to that just under the window is a table and chairs. farther on the next wall was a fire place, and a fur rug. there was a door to the next room, she wonderd what it was and then walked over to it and there it was a full sized bath, the tub was huge and it diped in to the ground as steem rolled off it.

Lenka sat there in shock as it was quite abit more than she hoped for. "I-Its wonderful, but... I'm sure i don't have enough zenny for it." as she said some what degected.

"And who said anything about money? Actualy its Leon's room when he's here, but he rarely uses it." He said with a smile.

Lenka couldn't beleave her ears, this place was good enough to live in. "You mean it? I can stay here?"

The dwarf responded by puting a key in her paw and smileing, "Ya know I've had that spare key forever, and I've been waiting to give it to the right person." as he turnd and walked out, but befor he got to the door he turnd and said "Oh, bye the way lass, the room is sound proof by way of magic" as he gave her a wink.

Lenka blushed at what the dwarf had said and she decieded that she should go ahead and take a bath while she was here, she hadn't had one all day and she absalutly love to take them any how. So she found a towl and a bath robe that only came to just below her butt, and hung very lose at the chest, and under normal cercumstances she wouldn't have taken that one but she thought that Leon would look pretty silly in the one she was wareing, her only thought was 'hee hee Dygrid must have been prepared for Leon to choose a mate he certinly gave very little choise on evening atire.' and she figured that she would enjoy the festivitys in town later, and enjoy a nice hot bath now.

Meanwihle Leon paded down the street casualy untill he saw Hiltez's "establishment" it was a large 3 story building and Hiltez was knowen for his welth and most only knew of his lagitamet buissness, but Leon was one of the few who knew more. However not all of his nonlagit buessness was bad, but he paid leon well for his services, and leon didn't have a real high price most of the time, and for all that Leon did Hiltez enjoyed employing him. Leon walked in and to the second floor where Hiltez office lay. He knocked on the door and he was let in.

Hiltez turned sat in his large chair behind his desk he was a half elven man with black hair and dark blue eyes and a rough beard. "Leon, my boy... how good to see you." his deep voice was manatone and calm. "I trust that the small task i gave you is complete? And with no trobble to such a fine swordsmen as your self." as he tossed a draw string bag to Leon knowing full well that the job was done exsactly as he wanted it.

Leon smiled and replied "Ok Hiltez, what do you want?" as he stufed the bag contaning his 100 zenny in his belt pouch.

Hiltez keeped his cool demeanor and only cracked a smile "You know me all to well Leon... I want you to enter the torunament at the festavle." as his smile turnd devalish yet he never broke his cool demeanor.

Leon's suspishion peeked as he knew that Hiltez had a bet and he wanted him to win for him, or beat a certen competetor. "Well what do I have to do in the tournament, Win?"

Hiltez simply replyed in his monatone voice "Much easier than that, just place in the top three, however I intend to dobble your winings so the better you do the more you make, trust me I stand to make far more than that trivial amount if you place."

Leon thought for a moment, "Ok, deal."

Hiltz stood and ecstended his hand to leon's paw, "Good man, the tournament starts in four days, you'll have that long to fined a partner, your in the fighter, mage team division. you must find a magic user of your choice to team up with. If you cant I will, but rather you choose who you work with. Your papers are filled out, with the exseption of your partner just bring them hear and I'll take care of the rest, then all you have to do is show up and give it your all."

Leon noded and walked out, he padded back down the street, and he checked the time by the suns position, 'Ummm... I have a half hour left maybe i should get her a presint, she has displayed some afection to me, and she dosen't have anything, may be some trinket, or a stuffed toy, humm... this will be harder than I thouht, well maybe just a flower... thats it.' He walked up and down the street trying in vain to find something but to no availe, he looked up again and saw that he was about fifteen min. late. Leon ran at a brisk pace to the HammerWall INN, where he left Lenka. then he slowed as he got to the door and walked in.

"By Darrin's hammer! If it isn't Leon!" Dygrid bellowd from behind the counter.

Leon smiled at his friend's greeting and he steped up to the counter a bit worryed that Lenka wasn't there, "Dygrid, Old friend how have you been." as he shoke Dygrid's hand "Hey have you seen a slender female feline about...."

Dygrid stoped him "you mean the young lass Lenka, that ye be travleing with?" as he leand on the bar

Leon smiled "So I take it you two spoke, well were did she go?"

Dygrid leand in close and said "She's in your room lad." Leon noded and started to walk back but Dygrid stoped him and said "I warn you lad if that nice lass comes out of there in tears, then by my fathers beard i'll drive you into the ground like a tent peg... she fanncys you lad, and dun you think I be mistaken about that." Dygrid smiled at him leting him know that he wasn't mad at him but Leon knew that he wasn't kiding, Dygrid continued "Have fun lad but try to let her go at her own pace, give her a foot massage why my wife, Gods rest her soul, used to love nothing more than a good massage."

Leon Tried to walk passed once more but was stoped by Dygrid once more, "And lad... dun ye be telling any one about that now." and he gave Leon a sturn look.

"Not a word." as he smiled andwalked past, he steped into the back and pulled down the stairs, he unlocked the door, and steped in quietly, as he did out of habbit then he saw her, she was laying there on the bed, sleeping on her side as she was dressed only in the small bath robe, she was very dazeling when she sleept, he had seen her sleep befor but now she was cleand up and he had time to admier her.
