"Stupid bitch." he muttered. "Why couldn't you think of yourself just once? That couple was lost, but you just had to try and rescue them. This is what you get for thinking of others."

"Just a few days. I hate to say this, but if we aren't rescued soon, or at least find land then all is lost." the drakkaren replied, rubbing their muzzles together.
"Then we'll have to start rowing then." He pointed off to port and smiled. "I feel land that way. The shadows are calling me. Trust me?"
"Always!" Zerrex replied. He picked up both oar and placed one against the strong wolfs chest. "Time for you to put those muscles to good use."
Shadow to the oar and moved off of his lap, repositioning so that his back was to the reptile. They turned the small life raft to port and began to row. They rowed in silence the next few hours, Shadow behind occasionally for any sign he was right. More hours passed by and he began to believe that he was wrong and had ensured their doom. That is, until he last look gave him the sight he wanted. Off in the distance he could see an island that appeared to be rather large and had a small mountain in the center.
He yelled "Land ho!" and they renewed their rowing, reaching the island just as night fell. Using a knife that Zerrex always kept on himself, they made a hasty shelter out of palm leaves and had coconuts for dinner. They slept curled around each other, resolving to explore the island and find proper shelter and food the next day.

Shadow woke up with the sunrise the next morning, Zerrex' arms still wrapped around his strong form. He sighed contentedly and pressed his back against his chest. Zerrex figured that the small mountain would at least have caves and he was sure they would find fresh water further in. They hiked through the thick undergrowth of the surrounding forest, picking their way carefully. The stopped a couple of time to allow Shadow to pick various editable looking berries. As the sun reached it zenith, the surroundings began to change drastically. The tress thinned out and weathered piles of rubble begun to appear to what seemed like random intervals.
Shortly thereafter, they came to the edge of a ruined village. While broken and crumbling; most of the buildings looked as if they were once very elaborate and elegant. They followed a ruined road at a slow pace towards the center of town.
"Holy Temple of the Gods." Shadow breathed as a temple built into the side of the mountain came into view. "Think it would be safe to stay in?"
"Of course. The interior hasn't been exposed to the elements. A few things would have naturally fallen, but it should be otherwise perfect." Zerrex replied, approaching the door. He pushed it open, disturbing the dust on the floor. They both sneezed lightly as they entered the room. In start contrast to the outside, the inside was plain and rather dark. As the reached to back of the large room. Shadow held out his paw and a small ball of light appeared. It gave off a soft glow and filled the room with it. The back wall had a ten foot statue of a tiger furr. The statue was heavily muscled and had both paws out, as if expecting gifts. "Guess this is where they made their offering to whatever god they worshiped." Shadow mused out loud. He took the ball of light and placed it into one of the upturned paws. Nothing but a few columns and the door on the far end." He looked around and spoke again. "Scratch that. There's another door over on that wall. "He pointed off to the left at a worn looking door.
"True." Zerrex replied. "But, I have a feeling that this is only the entrance. I'm sure the true temple is further in. That'll have to wait till later though. We need to get us some food, water and other supplies."
They agreed too split up and to meet back at the statue in two hours. It took Shadow only about an hour to find jars and such from some of the buildings and had filled them with water and berries he found. He decided to do a little exploring when he returned to the statue. He took one of the balls of light and headed through the small door. The walls seemed to be carved right out of the mountain itself. As he walked, the walls grew further apart and the ceiling rose above his head. After a bit more walking, he came to the end of the path. It didn't so much end as open into a huge cave. He looked left and right, but couldn't see either wall or the back wall. He looked up for the ceiling, but it too was too faraway to see. They must have hollowed out the entire Mountain. They must have... He felt a chill and rubbed his arms with his paws. Magic. Zerrex nodded slowly and stood up. "Ok. Let's go see what you found." He followed the black wolf through the door and down the corridor. This time, Shadow entered the cave and walked to a point that seemed to be the center. He turned to Zerrex and his jaw dropped. The drakkaren was growing quickly.
